Just random shit before I start my week that will signal a new phase in my life….lol. For real!
I would like to see the Dolphins win out or come close to 10-7 or end with a winning record. However, I don’t want them to make the playoffs!!! They are not ready.
The coaches aren’t ready or prepared to take the next step in a season, the players aren’t ready, and we just aren’t good enough in all phases of the game. Maybe the defense is close, with all it’s players on deck, and might be playoff ready. But, I doubt that, as well.
I’m not one that believes in making the playoffs just to say we “made” the playoffs, only to be embarrassed and lose by 20 points or more. We don’t belong there and shouldn’t embarrass ourselves.
The team needs a solid season of core sound football play, decision making, and all around fundamental smarts. This roller coaster shit doesn’t cut it. Good teams don’t have the problems we have, except possibly injuries.
We’re not a good team, but I’m hoping the rest of the season will lay the foundation for next. As I said last year, there were too many holes to fill. My notion was laughed at then, but it has proven true.
I still think there are more holes to fill and for god’s sake, can we please find coaches who can develop, train, and enhance a players career while making sound football choices/adjustments on game day.
I can’t agree with most of this. If we run the table and make the playoffs then they are definitely ready to be there win or lose. It also invalidates the rest of the post in regards to coaching. We won’t be able to run the table without any of those things happening.
I’ve been as critical on these coaches and the front office as anyone on this board, but I’ll give credit where it’s due.
I do agree with have some holes, but most NFL teams do. We do have problems to address, but I’m not going to hold success against this team when it gets it.
We aren’t finishing out the season with the first five teams either! We don’t ready a play-off team ready team by playing nobodies. You need to play against the best to be the best, imo!
Fuck luck!
Trolls of a feather flock together
LOL….nice!
Anything new to add?
Krishna – Only thing I have to say about the playoffs is it’s not really about who the best team is sometimes, it’s who’s the best at that time. If we win 9 in a row, we’ll have to be playing good football. I’ve seen it so many times, the hot team sometimes wins it all.
I agree, Mike E. Do you really think we are one of those? I don’t!
We have no identity at RB, the OL has no identity or talent, and we don’t have a WR unit that’s played together all year. I don’t think that’s getting ready for a run in the playoffs.
Special teams is definitely a roller coaster.
I will say, for the first time this year, I saw some DL play/push this game…. Holland and Phillips, and Davis coming back, are making a difference, for sure.
In that scenario, we would be. It would be insane that we would win 10, it really would, but if we play like we’re playing now, it’s possible. Can’t discount the win against the Ravens, or the success against Carolina. Funny thing is, I think the BYE might actually bite us this year, it will stifle our momentum. I feel like we’re riding a wave, and the BYE just might disrupt that.
I’m not discounting ANY of our wins or poo pooing them. Winning out is possible, but not probable. I would like us to win out as I’ve stated.
But, I don’t think winning out makes us playoff ready….yes, hot. Ready, NO!
LOL….
If anything, I think the BYE does help us. An extra week for players to heal for the final push. I’ve always been a fan of byes toward the end of the season for the final quarter of the season.
I guess it just depends on how the team is prepared. At this point, who the fuck knows?
There’s a lot to like about Krishna’s take. But I’m one of those fans who believes in “Strike NOW while the iron’s hot!!”
Things are going Miami’s way right now. Injured players are getting healthy. The running game is improved (altho’ hardly great). Tua looks better with each game. Our ball-hawk secondary is FEARED!! Our top 3 draft picks are PLAYING LIKE TOP 3 DRAFT PICKS!!
There is NOT a totally dominant team in either conference right now. The Super Bowl is on almost every team’s horizon. I say win out and the Fins will be on THE BEST ROLL IN THE NFL!!
NOT SAYING WE’LL BE SUPER BOWL CHAMPS–NO WAY!!
BUT I AM SAYING THIS IS A TEAM NO ONE WILL WANT TO PLAY IF WE RUN THE TABLE!!
———
GO FINS!!
Fair enough….one game at a time.
Krishna – The Patriots, who are now 3 games ahead of us, have no identity at RB, they also don’t have a WR group that has played together much due to injuries. Their O-line is better and we know their HC is better. The Patriots are there because they don’t ask their QB to do too much, they run the ball just enough, and they lean on their defense. Sounds a lot like the Dolphins, no?
It does sound a lot like the Dolphins as you described. BUT, there OL is better and their coach is much more seasoned! Those are big BUTs!!!
^their OL
I don’t think we will make the playoffs. 1-7 is beyond salvage for the season but I will be happy to be wrong. I would love to see some of these young guys get playoff experience even if it’s one and done
There are probably 3 teams in the AFC that I think are a bad matchup for us. The Titans with Derrick Henry, the Ravens because they always kick our ass, and the Chiefs when they are the Chiefs. Well, we beat the Ravens well, the Titans don’t have Henry, although they are still a physical football team, especially their O-line, and the Chiefs aren’t the Chiefs. Who knows? We still have to win out which is doubtful, but this started with the scenario in which we do win out.
the Ravens dont always kick our ass, they got their asses kicked by us 2 weeks ago
this defense can stop Jackson and frustrate him
We don’t play the Chiefs, but get what you’re saying.
Giants
Jets
Saints
Titans
Patriots
I believe we should beat the next 3 teams if we are anywhere near close to peaking for this year. Otherwise this conversation is moot and we are a bad team….with rays of sunshine on the next year of football. Period. You’re supposed to beat these teams.
Titans, to me, are the toughest out.
Patriots (homer alert), I would love to sweep them to end the season!
Krishna – I meant playoff teams.
I see….
for the ones that criticized Grier for the trade up for Waddle, just wanted to note those guys are quiet now, lol
WADDLE is worth every bit, of what it took to get him in here, he is the teams go to receiver
David, I believe everyone was happy we took Waddle (at least now). Some wanted the PSU LB. The issue is most, including me, thought we could have stayed put and still got Waddle.
Of course, we do not know what rumblings were going on behind closed doors. They may have had intel on someone before that #12 pick that wanted Waddle. Who knows.
I was one who would have stayed put at #12 for Devonta Smith unless Waddle fell to us.
Anyway, I still find it fun to be an armchair GM.
BTW, If I was GM, we would have RB Jonathan Taylor and LT Darrisaw on our roster instead of Iggy and Jackson who were taken after those picks. Just saying. lol
Yeah, Darrisaw and Taylor were taken in 2021 and Jackson and Iggy were taken in 2020 so much later lol! JBB
Lol….fair enough and got to go, but will leave you with this.
Someone or two indicated our first 3 picks in this year’s draft were balling yesterday.
Waddle, Holland, and Phillips. Can’t sneeze at that!!!!
I’ve noticed Gesicki’s targets have gone down the last few weeks. I’m totally fine with it because we’re moving the ball well on offense. We ran a lot of plays to Smythe yesterday, basically the same play action fake to the RB, roll out to the left and quick pass in the flat to Smythe. I think we ran that at least 4 or 5 times.
I think they are playing the hot hand and who is being overlooked. If Gesicki is be covered, show them we have other TE who can make plays.
Yep – That works for me. Moving the ball and winning is what counts. I really don’t care who gets the targets as long as we’re successful moving the ball. It used to drive me crazy when we weren’t and then all of a sudden Gesicki would get a bunch of targets and we’d move down the field with ease.
I thought Lindsey was just another small shifty RB, but after watching the game yesterday I believe he is going to improve Miami’s running game and make it a legit threat. His vision and burst was good, better than Gaskin’s or Achmed’s. – he saw the holes and hit them fast, The OL rarely creates big holes so when you see a small crease you have to hit it fast.
It’s nice to get such a dominant win while still having so many things to work on.
Yeah, shows Flores still has control of the team, but what the hell has he been doing the last 3 years in the beginning of the season, 0-7, 1-3, 1-7?
At some point he’s going to have to start out a little faster
Each year had their different reasons, but mostly tied to having new OC’s every year. Too much youth and inexperience was relied on this year. That youth is starting to show improvement.
Don’t have a problem with Tua not throwing a pass over 20 yards against a Carolina team, that was over-matched, because if you don’t need to take the inherent risk why take it, but it surely is an issue going forward against better teams
Suspect/hope once Parker and or Fuller get back it changes things
Waddle and Gesicki are getting most of the attention these days, so pick your poison, do you wanna get beat over the top or dink and dunk style?
You can’t just say yesterday was dink and dunk, perspective is needed, such as were they playing to keep our receivers in front of them, but since Tua has mostly been just that in the NFL…
Waddle has been fantastic this year, think I read somewhere he has no drops on the year and getting completions on over 75% of his attempts are great, even though his depth per reception isn’t, but to no fault of his
Agree with most of this. Waddle has at least one drop this year though, remember at the beginning of the season he was running an out and dropped a wide open pass? Believe it was a third down play. Still doesn’t take away what he’s done this year.
Gaskin looked good yesterday, but we still can’t really run the ball, even with the addition of Lindsey
We don’t have to be dominant running the ball, the quick passes take some of the need away, but we do need to keep running the ball, attempts may be more important, especially if we can get a long gainer once in a while
We also need to keep the runs for -3 yards to a minimum
TOP is a funny stat, days like yesterday it meant something, what we really need is actual TOP, time the D has to rest
I agree, TOP tells part of the story but not the entire story. I have seen multiple teams in the past few years cut through our Defense like a hot knife through butter and score again and again in 2 minute drives where we win the TOP but lose by 10+ points. Buffalo has been like that with us a couple of times in the last SEVEN losses in a row going back to 2018. This year’s 2nd game was the least points we have held them to since fall 2018. 42, 31, 37, 31, 56, 35 & 26 points is what we have given up to their offense.
Overall, Tua can be very effective, as long as the D is playing like they have of late, his biggest concern is getting into a shootout with someone like Buffalo
That shootout will occur at some point in the playoffs, maybe in the near future, it’s what he does in those situations that will determine his NFL career
ORob’s concerns are legit, if you consider the big picture as he is, I mean isn’t that what we’re all really discussing day to day and not any random game?
The concern about lack of running game is legit
The concern about Tua’s ability is not – let’s not reduce Tua to a game manager just bc he’s not passing for 350+ yards. What Tua is doing well, he does very well. His play has been stellar recently and there aren’t very many QBs who can duplicate what he’s done the last couple of games.
We need more balance on offense and we need better OL play. In the “big picture”, if we have those things, Tua can win a super bowl for us.
Tua got in a shootout with ARZ and won. He got in a shootout with KC and had us in the game. These were in his first 6 games as a true rookie. Tua has concerns for sure, but if you want to talk about perspective, he’s barely played a full season of games. He needs time to develop, weapons, and an o-line.
You’ll have to specify which of ORob’s concerns are legit, because Tua’s arm strength definitely isn’t one of them. If you’re talking in regards to the team itself and being on the fringe of playoffs every year, then I don’t think you’ll have anyone here disagreeing. What we disagree with is crapping on this team when showing growth and success. We can’t get to point C without taking steps A and B first.
We got a get waddle more involved in plays like the long reception he had.
At this point, Parker and Fuller are almost a detriment to this team. When/if they come back, let Waddle and Gesicki continue to be our focus. If there is a slant, I hope waddle is the target. Let Parker and Fuller go downfield a lot more. Those slants to waddle for big plays are what I expected to see more of
Can watch it over and over
More of this please
Might of been the best play of the season. Talking about throwing a guy open. He threw Waddle right into the void of the defense in stride
You can make a living off passes like that one
I think we need to do it a lot more in the last few games
Not to invoke the presence of Bitcoin Beetlejuice, but I’m seeing Albert Wilson wide open way too often and being overlooked. It’s no wonder he tried to make a big play happen on that third down play when he should have just went down and gotten the first.
That play was very frustrating
But we’ve all seen Wilson tune nothing into a huge play before. I think mentally though, on 3rd down, he has to know to get past the markers, first and foremost.
If he does that on fire or 2nd down, none of us get so frustrated
We can probably afford to work him more into the offense – but by the same token, I enjoy what Gesicki and Waddle have produced for us this season and I don’t want to see them targeted less
I think Tua needs to throw to the open man regardless and I think he does that most of the time, but there are times where he stares down his first two reads ( who mostly are Gesicki and Waddle). He ends up passing over guys who are open waiting for those guys to get open.
The 3rd and 5 where the Panthers created the fumble in the first quarter is a prime example. He stares at Gesicki, then immediately turns to look at Waddle when Wilson was wide open across the middle who he should have seen before looking over to Waddle. He then saw Laird open, but the pass rush was there and hit him from behind before he could get it to him.
Tua seems to have 2 or 3 of those kinds of plays every game. Those are mental things that should get better with time. I feel too often Tua doesn’t go past his first and second read. The o-line has something to do with it, but on that 3rd and five, there’s no reason Tua couldn’t have gotten it to Wilson.
I’m gonna do it
I’m going to compare Tua to Tannehill and fans expectations
We went from Henne (a guy who we had no business in being patient with) to Tannehill (who was just very raw and inexperienced) to Tua
And you can see the difference. Tua is way ahead of where Tannehill was in year 2
We gave Tannehill 7 years. He flourished when he left. That was almost predictable. I don’t Thai k Tua needs 7 years to get 30+ tds. I just think he needs to be healthy. To me that’s the only thing that might derail him.
Wow, Tua is 2nd in th league in compl % behind Murray, thos short passes do wonders for your Compl %
Basically doing everything we ask him to do
When all is said and done, those back to back “couldn’t finish” games vs Jax and Atl will loom large. As it stands, we’d be 7-5 and in control of our playoff destiny.
Talk of playoffs is fun but we’d need some perfect scenarios to take place.
NE’s next 3 games are Buff, Indy, Buff again. I will be cheering that they are 9-7 when we play them the last regular season game … and maybe we find a way to enter that game at 9-7 as well.
… you see where this is going? 🙂
SB7, You made me have to go back and look at my final 2020 mock. You are right about Darrisaw but Taylor was 2020. Darrisaw was in my 2021 and it was Wirfs in 2020.
My 2020 final mock was:
1st round
Tua
OT Tristan Wirfs – but he went at 13 to TB and wasn’t there when we picked at 18
RB Jonathan Taylor – was available but we took Iggy
2nd round
OC Cesar Ruiz – but he went in 1st at #24, we took Hunt
SS Jeremy Chinn – was there but we took DT Davis, glad we did
3rd round
WR/RB Antonio Gibson – went 4 spots earlier to WFT, we took S Brandon Jones
4th round
DT McTelvin Agim – went 16 spots earlier in 3rd, we took Kindley
2021
1st round
Waddle
OT Darrisaw – he was there but we took Phillips instead, that’s working out!
2nd round
RB Javonte Williams – went the pick before us we took S Holland
OC Creed Humphrey he was there but we took OT Eich
Okay, well we were both wrong and both right lol
I’m not going to complain about the 3 picks we took in the top of the draft this past year. It’s tough to make an argument for taking other guys, although I think we would have been more successful at the beginning of the year had we gone another direction.
If we wanted Waddle that badly, we could have stayed at 3 IMO instead of moving down to 12 then moving back up to 6.
Regardless, those 3 guys look great and I’m glad they’re on the team.
top 10 QBR’s to this point, if we are to contend our QB will have to be on this list.
Kyler Murray’
Aaron Rodgers
Kirk Cousins
Matthew Stafford
Dak Prescott
Tom Brady

Jimmy Garoppolo
Teddy Bridgewater
Should not be a reply…oops
Then we are good to go! These are the actual top 10 in QBR as per ESPN

5 Kyler MurrayARI
6 Josh AllenBUF
7 Jimmy GaroppoloSF
8 Tua TagovailoaMIA

10 Derek CarrLV

That’s really impressive by Herbert
A little surprised to see Garripolo and Carr rated that highly
Everyone is saying Mahomes is having a bad year…I guess that’s relative to prior years for him
I woke up this morning and first thing I thought of was I wonder how bad Cam Newton’s Monday morning hangover is.
He’s soothing himself with a frozen bag of cash.
Doubt that’s what he’s thinking this morning
More like how the fuck can the sorry ass Dolphins kick my ass that bad
Maybe I should ponder the R word
Panthers are officially screwed.
A little perspective for an ape who gets caught up in the ups and downs of the season.
Winning out and potentially making the playoffs would be nice, but winning nine straight, including finishing with three tough games, and getting the help we need is a tall order. If it happens, all the better, but I’m not expecting that to happen.
What I would love to see happen, and what I would still consider a successful season, is for us get to 9 wins.
We really should beat the Giants and the Jest in Miami to get to 7-7. At this point, that is absolutely expected.
At Nawlins, at Titans, and Pets in Miami are three tough games. I want to see us win two of those tough games to finish the season. (Some might not see N.O. as tough, but I think they have a strong home field adv.)
If we do that, it will be the first time since the 2002/ 2003 seasons the Dolphins have put up back-to-back winning seasons. That is progress.
For me, that shows we’re on the right track and are building a winning culture. I say, keep the whole FO gang together and let this thing continue to grow. It may not be the playoffs most of us were hoping and expecting this year, but it’s another step towards continued success.
Re-sign Ogbah, make some decisions with the numerous FAs we have on the team (like kick Fuller out of the building as fast as possible), draft and add a vet or two, or three on the oline, and for heaven’s sake, forget about Watson. Move past that massive mistake like it didn’t happen. Then, go into next season with a chip on our shoulders and start strong instead of putting ourselves behind the flippin’ 8-ball.
We need continuity, whatever that looks like
Keep as many of the players playing right now as possible and retain the coaches
Quit resetting so many things from year to year
Yep, I didn’t touch on the coaches beyond Flores, but agreed we need to build continuity there as well. It’s time to let the systems develop. It’ll be year 3 for the defense, and year 2 on the offense.
When we had Landry catching 100 balls a year, we were the definition of a pop gun offense, because of his lack of speed
With Waddle, as we witnesses yesterday, getting him that many balls isn’t a bad thing
https://twitter.com/BaldyNFL/status/1465307414576652293?s=20
I love Baldy. My favorite part of that vid…only one of those plays did we rush more than 4.
facts smacst
His pocket pressence has been stellar
We’re starting to see his intangibles show up, like they did at Alabama
Once his reads match his pocket pressence, and they will, watch out
Anyone have a link to that mic’d up video with Seiler?
And since the trade deadline passed and all the Watson nonsense ended, we’re undefeated…
Sure, it was 3 at home, and it was 3 subpar opponents and only one tough team in the Ravens, but this is the same team that also lost to the Falcons and Jaguars in lackluster performances. I don’t think it’s a stretch to speculate all that hoopla affected the team and without it, maybe we’re 7-5 instead of 5-7…
If we win out the season we still only have an 81% chance of making the playoffs…..
I honestly don’t expect to make the playoffs
I just want to play well so that I can see there is something to build on
But keep in mind 81% is going to change if we win next week and any of the other contenders lose
So if we keep winning that % is likely to get higher
I think the 81% IS IF we win out and finish 10-7 according to the calculator they posted you can play with.
Yeah but, that % still changes in the weeks that any one who is in it loses
That % is going to change each week
If we lose next week, our % decreases
If we win and some one else loses, it should increase correct?
There’s 12 teams ahead of us, 4 will be division winners, so 8 ahead of us for 3 spots, with Buff or the cheats and Cin or Bal almost assured at this point to take 2 spots
That leaves 1 spot for 7 teams, which I’d favor the Chargers or Indy to get
So many teams ahead of us that’s its not really worth looking at what teams we need to lose, except the must Indy/Chargers
It’s too far out still, but what I want desperately is for Miami to break the losing streak to the Bills and for them to sweep the division next season.
If Flores will quit FNing around with everything in the offseason we may have a chance
Steve, there are a lot of teams ahead of us in the WC chase, but, the current 3rd WC team is 6-5 and we are 5-7. Just need to keep winning 1 at a time.
I get that, but Indy has the tie breaker on us in a 2 team tie also
It’s gonna be tough, problem is there’s no top division teams right now, everything is middle heavy
Which us good, if we get in and bad, if we don’t
if we get into a three way tie, i don’t think head to head is relevant?
Only if all 3 teams played each other, that’s why I said, 2 team tie
I don’t expect us to make the playoffs because we have no room for error and that’s a lot to ask. All we can do is go one fame at a time and see what happens. But like Piggy said, just keep building on something and we do have a quite a few players to do that with. We have a lot of talent on defense but the offense is going to need to be addressed in the offseason.
It’s been the same shit for 3 years, we look good by seasons end, and think we have something to build on, then the asshole tears it down every offseason
I hear ya, but this offseason we have so many young players on rookie contracts and other players locked up for multiple years I don’t see that happening like in years past.
We were 8-4 last year and still missed the playoffs so to be in the playoff hunt after starting 1-7 you can call me Lloyd Christmas.
Hello Lloyd
Dolphins limited the Carolina QBs to a passer rating of 13.4, the lowest opponent output of any NFL game this season.
Phillips had 3 sacks, the most by an NFL rookie since 2019.
Ogbah has a batted pass in 7 straight games, the longest streak by a defensive lineman in 20 years. He has a total of 9 batted passes this year.
Howard got his 25 INT in just his 67th game and is the fastest player to 25 INTs since 1990 beating Marcus Peters mark of 68 games.
https://www.miamidolphins.com/news/inside-the-numbers-panthers-vs-dolphins-week-12
Well who did it faster in 1990 because Peters wasn’t playing then?
I keep reading from Panthers websites that the Dolphins used the blitz all day to harass their QBs. I know we are a very blitz heavy team, but it really seemed to me like we were getting a lot of pressure with just 4 and it seemed we blitzed less than usual, but my impression could be wrong.
I am really curious to see those numbers and will probably watch the game again today and focus on that. If anyone else runs across those stats and posts them, I’d be obliged.
The Panthers had only given up 2 sacks in their previous 4 games. They gave up 5 to us yesterday and were pressuring them all day long. If our dline dominated that way blitzing less than usual that is flipping awesome.
Sometimes what they are calling blitzes is a 4 man rush
Our scheme is meant to be chaotic and confuse
If the QB and OC is confused – you can bet the writers who haven’t seen it before are confused too
Watching the game it didn’t seem to be more blitzing than any other game, in fact, I get a little frustrated when so many defenders are on the LOS, I am probably alone in this criticism but I’m not a huge fan of the LOS with 7 or 8 defenders on it that Flores does – and I don’t remember being especially irked about it yesterday like I usually am each week…lol
Yeah, if we show 6 or 7 and drop guys to rush 4, that’s not a blitz. But that is standard for our D; we see it every week, and maybe you’re right the other writers just aren’t used to seeing that.
My Chargers fan friend from work responded to my text what’s wrong with the Chargers
We let bum ass Steelers offense score 40 on us last week. That alone should explain how bad our defense is right now. This is a done season – Chargers won’t survive rest of the season with this roster. We have no depth at all.
I didn’t see him much yesterday – did anyone notice an injury. I didn’t
It’s been talked about all morning, welcome to the party
Whoops
It was reported near the end of the first half that he been hurt and he was trying to get back on the field and to my understanding that status didn’t change for the remainder of the game but he didn’t come back in. They never indicated what play he was hurt on. He had 10 carries early in the game. Last play I remember from him was him getting swallowed up by 3 defenders behind the line of scrimmage
Yeah on one play he was wincing on the ground and seemed to sit out a lot of plays before not playing at all anymore.
Does anyone else think the entire league is shifting to the type of defenses that don’t give up big plays and keep everything in front of them?
I think the game is evolving in that direction especially with the emphasis on offense and protecting the QB in the league rules
It’s been trending that way for awhile now. I touched on it a few weeks ago. It doesn’t matter how many yards a defense gives up. Redzone defense and turnovers are so much more important than yardage.
With the rules favoring the offense so much, against a team like the Chiefs when they are on their game, you aren’t going to stop them. You have to take away the quick scores, force them into long drives, and limit them to fgs as often as you can. Add a TO or two in their and that is how you beat them when they are on their game.
A ball control offense that eats up clock is nice too, try to limit their possessions.
Agreed, yardage doesn’t really mean much. 3rd down, turnovers and scoring defense is the key to playing good defense.
We did blitz but as the game wore on will a sizeable lead we were using 3 and 4 man rushes a lot and still getting to the QB.
Of course we blitzed- duh, lol. The question is what were the numbers yesterday compared to our season average numbers?
I would say below our average. I’m not sure we blitzed in the 4th quarter. Didn’t have to.
Tim Knight says:
November 29, 2021 at 4:59 pm
Well who did it faster in 1990 because Peters wasn’t playing then?Tim Knight says:
Tim, when I read that blurb, I took it to mean that is when they started collecting that stat so they are saying that is the record since 1990 when they started counting. The previous record circa 1990 forward was Peters.
Oh okay. But they were counting INTs well before then so I’m not sure it was written properly. Sacks is another story when 1982 was when they counting them.
https://www.miamidolphins.com/news/inside-the-numbers-panthers-vs-dolphins-week-12
“According to Elias Sports Bureau, Howard is the fastest NFL player since 1990 to record 25 career interceptions. Howard played his 67th NFL game yesterday. The previous record belonged to CB Marcus Peters, who recorded his 25th interception in his 68th career game.”
I’m assuming the Elias Sports Bureau only has stats going back to 1990, not that INTs weren’t recorded prior to then.
The way I wrote it out in my original post could be read that the record was previously set in 1990, so that was my fault, not the publications.
That surprises me. Pro Football Reference even has those stats from the 70’s and 80’s.
Now that you got me thinking about it, yeah that is kinda weird. I just assumed they only have stats going back that far because I knew Peters wasn’t playing in 1990, but yeah, why don’t they have those stats? lol
As I thought, with the 49er’s win, our pick dropped #21. Ours to Philly dropped to #10.
That can change week to week with so many teams close in record.
I’m rewatching the condensed game now to get blitz numbers, still annoyed at that Davis turnstile play that got Tua sacked and he fumbled and then that dumb challenge, lol. But I know it’s all roses after that 🙂
I didn’t have a problem with that challenge because of field position. I wasn’t sure about it either because Rowe clearly stripped the ball out. But I have no idea what the rules are anymore because I see it called differently too often.
It was so bad the announcers and the ex ref were calling it a complete waste.
You weren’t the only one who was ok with it on the board though, but I think it was about as bad a challenge as you could have.
You waste a TO and leave yourself with one challenge the rest of the game with 3 quarters and 10 minutes left on a “well maybe the refs will give us a gift?” no way in my book.
I’m not sure I even posted about it during the game but someone else said they didn’t mind that call.
It was either Pig or Ken (or both), but it doesn’t make you any less wrong, lol.
LOL
Kong, PFR even has Dick LeBeau’s stats from 1959. LOL
LOL
I know it wasn’t our game but did anyone else see this and think it was wrong?
I responded to you last night. I was completely baffled.
You can clearly see it bounce of the ground.
off
I should have said other than you. When I can see it, it’s clear. 😂
Gotcha, wasn’t sure if you saw my response last night. It was crazy. If that isn’t indisputable visual evidence, I don’t know what is, lol.
Ya see, they blow these calls all the time. Why even have video replay when everyone can see it but the officials.
I don’t think a blown review in another game in any way justifies our wasting a challenge and TO in the first 5 minutes of a 0-0 game in the hopes they will also blow the call. That is what would have had to happen for us to win that challenge, they would have had to get it wrong.
If it’s late in the game, or if we’re down and out and need some sort of spark, then I might agree with throwing it out there as a prayer, but you don’t need a prayer at the beginning of the game.
I was not comparing that call with CLE to our challenge. Just that they miss such obvious stuff that maybe they get closer calls wrong too.
I didn’t think you were comparing, more using it to justify your position on our call, at least that is how I read the “Ya, see…”
Technically speaking
If we are playing 3 DL, and we rush 4
Isn’t that characterized as a blitz too?
I always felt a blitz was 5 or more.
I don’t think that is considered a blitz because the scheme calls for a LB to rush the passer.
After one quarter (and I didn’t count special teams plays, nor the Panthers 3 plays inside the 10, we blitzed 6 times and rushed four 3 times. So you’re probably right, Tim. As the game wears on in the 2nd half and we take control, we start rushing 4 and were still getting pressure.
Tim, I just looked up the Elias Sports Bureau; they’ve been around since 1913, so I give up trying to figure out what the hell that stat is about, lol.
LMAO!!!!
I had a feeling Phillips was close to having that breakout game and he did against the Panthers. He missed a lot of time in camp with a leg injury and you could see early on he was getting his feet wet as an OLB – setting the edge, dropping in coverage and rushing from a 2-point stance. He already had experience as a hand in the ground DE. Now he can flip from one to the other at any time. He does a really good job at the POA holding his own and forcing runs back inside which is his job. He’s starting to look like the player we projected him to be at #18. 🙂
Kong, on the play that Flores challenged, do you think if that play happened in the end zone that on any given day the officials could have called that a TD?
You’re getting into changing what happened on the field and trying to visualize it in the head, and I’m not going there. I’m looking at the play that occurred.
He barely got two feet down and didn’t come close to making a football move. They called it incomplete on the field, there was no way in hell that was going to be overturned unless they blew the call.
If it’s late in the game, or if we’re down and out and need some sort of spark, then I might agree with throwing it out there as a prayer, but you don’t need a prayer at the beginning of the game. As it was, it was just a waste of a TO and left us with one challenge for the remaining 3 quarters and 10 minutes.
I understand the consensus was it was incomplete. There are just so many plays these days where I raise my hands and say I don’t know. I’m not arguing it should have been overturned I actually didn’t think it would be.
I get ya, bro. I understand your point of view is that based on field position and the play as you saw it, it was worth having them take a look, and if they had overturned it we wouldn’t be having this conversation. And as is shown above, sometimes werid stuff happens on replays.
I’m just arguing my opinion, and even though I joked you were ‘wrong’, ultimately we both know I’m right because they didn’t overturn it.
LOL, j/bb. Obviously it’s two opinions, there isn’t really right or wrong.
It’s all good. 🙂
MIKE, THE BIG O may post here, please approve him.
Who’s the Big O?
Kong, I agree with you on the challenge, I thought it was a horrible decision, and he is not great on challenges.
Cheers, Bookman. I just saw it as another bad challenge on the resume.
I think Flores has lost like 7 of 9 of his challenges. But early on in the season when we kept losing, I think he was coaching kind of in panic mode. That has decreased now that we’re playing better football. He’s also not the only one looking at it. Other people are in his ear saying maybe challenge this and then he makes the final decision. If he was a gambler, he’s lost a lot of money this year. LOL
It’s a good point on the people in his ear. It certainly isn’t just a one man process.
And to be fair, I don’t recall the game, but we threw a challenge on another play earlier this year I thought we had no shot of winning, and it did go our way, so like I said above, if we win this latest challenge we’re not even talking about it.
I think the worst challenge was the one that was only a 2 yd gain and did not even affect the down because it was goal to go. It is hard to top that one. Lol
Which play and game was that? I kind of remember it but not the game.
We were unlikely to win the challenge but if we did we are first down in the red zone. So even though the odds were against us it was still worth it to try
Not when the only way you win is if the refs get it wrong, and when there are 3 quarters and 10 minutes left in a 0-0 game.
It just wasn’t close enough to throw away a TO and leave yourself one challenge that early. It was obviously incomplete. Either the receiver was going to the ground and didn’t remotely complete the process, or he barely got two feet down when the ball came out and definitely didn’t make a football move.
The only question is was he going to the ground, which Pereira thought he was, in which case it’s even a worse challenge than a standing incompletion.
I’ll say this, after years of us playing more vanilla styles of defense, I’m digging our philosophy and the way our guys get after people. Still waiting for an OL that can impose their will and say yes we’re running the ball, go stop it.
Hmmm… nobody replied to my fabulous post about Phillips at 5:43. LOL
I got all into the challenge conversation and forgot I was watching the game for blitz count, lol. Oh well, I’m not even going to finish. After seeing the 1st quarter numbers, I’m pretty sure you had it spot on, Tim, that we blitzed heavy in the 1st half and not so much in the 2nd once we got control of the game.
We were overpowering their offense in all phases late in the game. There was a point where I said they’re not scoring. When our defense is confident and rolling they’re a tough bunch to play against.
It’s a shame we couldn’t have pulled out a couple more victories in those close FG games. 7-5 and we’re right there. Fuck!!!!
Those Jaguars and Falcons games, smh. Even just one of those flipping games and we’re right there at 6-6.
Yes and the Raiders game too. That was a time when the entire team was making just enough mistakes to lose every game. Then we as fans all lost it. LOL
Oh and by the way, Ogbah deserves his payday. That guy is a damn good DE in all phases. Him, Van Ginkel and Phillips as edge guys are looking good. We’ve got quality interior DL and a bunch of LBs and DBs who make a lot of plays. Keep it going.
Tua has more vowels in his real name than incomplete passes in his last 3 games.
That’s awesome!
Lol
He could have a bad day and still not make it
Tim, Phillips made the noise I was hoping for.
Did you see the video from earlier of Baldinger breaking him down from yesterday, if you didn’t it’s awesome.
No do you have the link?
Just scroll up to earlier today
We weren’t blitzing with the Safeties, Holland and Jones, like we had been previously we were blitzing with linebackers more so yesterday. Jones was out. Holland took advantage of his opportunity to roam.
Yep, it’s never the same. But we still throw so many looks and personnel groupings at opponents they always have to think more than they want to. When our defense is firing on all cylinders we’re is good as any in the league.
Son, I found it. That’s what I’m talking about. Sorry I take him over Najee Harris. Players like Phillips are more rare than good RBs.
https://twitter.com/BaldyNFL/status/1465307414576652293
I know a lot of people here believe in and want the #1 RB, but I’ll take an edge rusher every day of the week over a RB in the 1st rd.
^
And I don’t know if we would have selected RB Williams in the 2nd if the Broncos hadn’t jumped us, but I’m thankful they did. We got us a baller in Holland.
I still think that was a Safety 🙏
Really friggin close.
I didn’t even catch it in real time, but watching Baldy’s replay, it’s pretty damn close. If any part of that ball is over the goalline, it’s 2 points and Dolphins ball.
Lindsay (with an “a” at least according to the team roster) might be a huge shot in the arm for our running game. Man, he’s going full speed in a about a step and a half – ZOOM 🔥💥
This is common when a guy gets cut and gets another chance. I want to see him keep that up. I would think he got cut because he wasn’t doing that. But he fits our style of offense. I hope he’s awesome down the stretch. 🙂
If you hit on the DE then it’s easy to say I’d take the end every time but what if you could have Najee or Charles Bust Harris? Then you’d be saying I never pass on the three down back lol
It’s a valid point. Obviously whichever player it is needs to perform, and I’d rather have a performing RB than a Charles Harris. But I’m talking philosophy. I’m not using an early or mid round 1st on a RB ever unless it was the last piece on an already complete team.
I wouldn’t devalue talent because of position everyone gets a grade and it’s important to trust that. It just so happens that this time both players would have been a worthwhile pick.
I don’t see anything wrong with placing certain value on positions. I certainly wouldn’t take a kicker, long snapper, or punter with a 1st rd pick. I also wouldn’t take a center or guard with a top 5 pick.
Oh I just remembered why that wasn’t a Safety. Unlike a TD where the ball only has to break the plain, for a safety the whole ball has to cross the goal line.
The entire ball has to be out of the end zone or it’s a safety. If part of the ball is over the line 2 points dolphins.
Ahhh
Waddle, Phillips and Holland all have pro bowl/all-pro upside and are having really good rookie seasons. We’ve hit on some other picks too under Grier/Flores but a bunch specifically on the OL are still a work in progress. Tua is playing up to his #5 status right now.
Piggy – The replay of Waddle up a ways on today’s blog was the great block by Phillip Lindsay, he sprinted to the guy coming around the edge and held his ground, without Tua was not getting that throw off. That’s a veteran having the awareness, it was huge!
I saw that during the game yesterday and I was like who the hell is that
Yeah that was impressive by Lindsay
Let’s hope he can keep it up
The Total Access host MJ, she’s the best one she’s a lot of fun to listen to and not to mention beautiful and a huge Dolphins fan. Total Package

Dolphins safety on Dalton
“The key is the position of the ball in relation to the goal line when Dalton is first contacted by Wake,” Blandino said. “We had a great look at it – a look right down the goal line. When Wake first makes contact with Dalton, the ball is breaking the plane of the goal line. If any part of that ball is breaking the plane when the contact occurs, and he is driven back into the end zone, it’s a safety. That was the ruling. It was reviewed in replay and confirmed. The entire ball has to be out of the end zone when the contact occurs for it not to be a safety.”
Thank you
Then the last line says it all
It was a safety
I didn’t have beer spilled on me at slatterys for nothing
LOL, the new standard- clause 48(C): if a pig gets covered in beer, 2 points Dolphins.
Here’s the thing, with the status of our OL, Najee Harris would not be doing much more than what we’re doing in the run game. We just don’t get enough push up front and he’s not Christian Okoye or Eric Dickerson. I know the Steelers don’t have a good OL either, but he has numbers because he’s basically playing most of the snaps. His numbers are not special.
The way Phillips is progressing he can change games in a much more impactful way. He reminds me of DeMarcus Ware – similar in size, long arms, power, quickness and speed. Ware had 8 sacks as a rookie. Phillips has 6.5 with 5 games to go.
If Phillips was on another team I’d be saying the same thing. He looks the part of a OLB/DE. Willie McGinest is another guy who is comparable.
When we first drafted him, I was afraid he was undersized, but watching him in games, he doesn’t look tall and skinny, he looks tall and stout. I don’t see him getting overpowered at all. I think McGinest is a good comparison.
That is a good comparison, I’m in for a career like that 😁
🤞
For a safety it is where the ball is at first contact
Phillips now leads the team in sacks
With Daniel Jones on deck 💪🐧🐬
Piggs told me I had to put the penguin in there
But don’t leave out the snout next time
1-7 was a dark place a place maybe they needed to go in order to bloom.
It don’t come easy
Hopefully Daniel Jones doesn’t find himself alone in the open field against us….or it’s trouble….
Exhibit A
LOL
Happily, I saw that one live
It’s gonna be a tough game for me with family and friends on Sunday. Of course I’m rooting for the Phins, but it’s against the Giants. If we keep playing the way we have been we’ll win this game too. 🙂
The Giants are going to have problems on Sunday start preparing your family now. In fact they shouldn’t even watch lol.
LOL
Make you sure to express that even though we are going to whip their a$$, we still love them for the 2007 and 2011 seasons.

Yes!
One more month to go until I get to see my son again!!!
“That’s my boy!”
3 random thoughts regarding our game yesterday…
1) I’m getting tired of announcers not being able to pronounce our QBs’ names properly. For 7 years, it was “Tanny-hill”. Now, it’s the phonetic spelling of Tagovailoa. C’mon, announcers! 😆
2) Our D-Line is BEASTLY when it comes to batting passes down at the LOS. I mean, WOAH!!! These cats aren’t getting enough credit: well done!
3) When Waddle caught the big gainer yesterday, I thought nobody was going to touch him after he crossed the 50 yard-line watching it in real-time. Not a knock at all (HELLUVA play!!!), but I thought he was going to paydirt. He’ll do it soon enough!
Need to add a 4th…
4) What in the world is going on with Jason Sanders this season? He missed an extra point yesterday. No biggie as it turned out, but man, he’s been OFF this season.
Waddle split the field but notice how many DB’s were around him? The Safety had the angle to keep it from the house. But Waddle can get chunk yards in a blink of an eye. He is the guy teams say don’t let him go nuts on us. We can manage the others.
Wilson has been a huge disappointment. I can’t watch him with the 1st down within 2 yards anymore and he decides to run backwards for 3-5 trying to make the great play. Get the 1st down, dude!!!!!
All of that has to be corrected.
Yeah, man… like I said, in real-time, I thought Waddle had a TD. You’re absolutely correct about the DBs around him. It was one helluva play, regardless!
Wilson has been quite the disappointment… I agree. I didn’t mind him trying to get the sexy first down in order to show and prove himself (that point in the game with a lead, mind you), but it was certainly ill-advised, regardless. And honestly, it could have become a turning point in the game for the Panthers. So to Wilson (just like Sanders missing a routine PAT), you didn’t hurt us today, but don’t do that $#!T again… it can hurt us in the future.
I don’t think Wilson sticks next year, Tim.
You guys kill me sometimes

Well who did it faster in 1990 because Peters wasn’t playing then?
Like you guys have never watched the draft, when they run on the ticker the entire draft something like 1st WR the Lions have taken in the draft since 2019
Not sure how much more it can be broken down
Howard got his 25 INT in just his 67th game and is the fastest player to 25 INTs since 1990 beating Marcus Peters mark of 68 games.
In 1990 someone got their 25th ints in less games than 67 games
I hear ya, Steve. I want to know who that guy is who got to 25 INTs in less than 67 games back in 1990. Your point IS well taken and understood… I’d look it up right now, but I’m multi-tasking. I’ll try to look it up a little later, Bro.
Since 1990, WTF does that mean? Who cares? I know Lester Hayes did it in 62 games from 77-80. Why not use that?
Exactly, who cares, but the guy was lazy and only went back to 1990
He didn’t even mention who it was in 1990. LOL
M13, I don’t think Parker, Fuller or Wilson will be back next season. Time to move on.
Exactly, and same here on all 3.
I think we go heavy offense this offseason. 2 vet OL, a vet WR in FA and then WR and RB early in the draft. Don’t fuck around with Tua in his 3rd season. Get better. We have the defense and STs to build around. The offense needs more talent. It’s time.
Grier’s and Flores’ careers depend on it. That shouldn’t be the goal but it is. I think they’ll likely get a 4th season. We have really good cap money in 2022 and another quality draft. They’ll get one more season from Ross.
I bet Parker is, and almost guarantee it
WOAH!!!
Wow
Shocking, but it’s a better job, one that has a better chance to win a title going forward
I looked it up and the guy that said that did some lazy reporting, in general that statement means someone had 25 ints in less than 67 games and his 25th int came in 1990
No one did that close to 1990, Paul Krause did it in 1967 in around 50 games
Emlen Tunnell about 40 games in 1951, but these were different eras
Lester Hayes in 1980. What is 1990 all about? I just think it was an error.
Lazy reporting
Yah!
The kicker from WTF is injured, so they’re going for it on 4th down and about 5 deep inside Seattle territory, with less than 4 minutes to go
All punters and kickers do is kick/punt the ball, you’d think a punter should be able to kick a 40-45 yard FG
All the players get worked into multiple roles, why do these guys get away with not?

100% agreed that Flores gets a 4th year from Ross… and likely Grier, too, after the 2021 Draft successes.
Too early for me to project the offseason right now, but I wouldn’t doubt your thoughts.
Who is this Logan Thomas guy?!! 😉
No catch for WTF not even close, the idiots in the booth can’t believe it
Riverboat done funked up by not kicking the FG.
What a game!
Unpopular opinion
Smythe is the TE they need to sign to long term contract.
👍
Definitely unpopular with me. He does nothing special. What kind of routes does he run? They ran that same PAF to the back, roll the the left and throw to the flat over and over. I think Shaheen is the better blocker and big target than Smythe. Also, hard to judge Gesicki here because we just don’t use him enough. I’d be willing to bet anyone here that he goes somewhere else and is an 70-80 catch 1000-1200 yards with 8-10 TD’s a season TE. The fact that Gesicki has 2 TD’s for us is on us, not him.
I’d like to keep both of them. Gesicki is a curious case though. The coaching staff either doesn’t know how to use him, or they don’t want to. I think Gesicki’s unselfishness and willingness to support his teammates also affects numbers. Maybe that comes to our advantage come extension time, or maybe they don’t envision him for the future. His lack of usage, especially in the redzone, has definitely been a shame. I’m tired of settling for field goals or running the wildcat when we get inside the 10.

way more than i need to know!
Steve is probably right that Parker is here for probably another season because of his dead money.
I know I’ve brought up the movie Moneyball here before, but the talk about dead money makes me think about his scene with David Justice.
i wonder if ever a team started 1-7 and made the playoffs?
teams like washington made the playoffs last year, and were not even 500 teams,
yes
its possible
Liar!
google it dumb ass, wow you are lazy and uninformed

orob, is there ANY subject in the world, that you can be honest with?
Have you ever told the truth before? if so, what happened?
BTW i hate liars, lol guess you knew that
I totally agree, if i were you i’d hate myself also!

yea, to make up false statements about the weather, the QB, the economy, , lol i see that
your link doesnt show that the weather is 33 in ocala, lying to cover up previous lies didnt work this time either
what is so wrong with telling the truth? are you afraid you will be ignored?
I hope this helps you,
my phone said it was 35 this morning when i woke up at 5am.
what possible reason would i have to lie about the temp?
you lack common sense
fair enough, so you admit it was NOT 33, getting somewhere
next step would be to admit that Tua is the second QB in the NFL in percentage completion rate , and has been a big factor in the teams 4 game win streak
when did i say it was 33 moron?
tua is fantastik……against shitty teams!
What did I miss?
ORob said it was 35, David said he’s a liar because it wasn’t 33, ORob called him out and David disappears
Then ORob says: i wonder if ever a team started 1-7 and made the playoffs?
David responded with some unrelated dumbass response about WFT, even though they started 2-5 last year
No wonder he disappeared
Quite typical of your type
David, did you check my snow flurries report as well? Lol
liar! you said blizzard!……wait?
I thought I said it was raining lizards!
don’t give him any ideas!
I’ve got a couple of ideas for him🤪
