Dolphins win streak at 5, BYE Week is here . . .

If you were on the blog yesterday, you’ve probably read that one of our own here at FMU has been dealt a serious blow, Jon “Stanger” suffered a serious heart attack 2 weeks ago. The good news is he survived it and is now out of the ICU and heading in the right direction. If you know and have met Stanger, he’s one of the kindest, nicest people you can meet. It was very touch and go there for him, we’re all thankful he’s beginning to improve. Our best from FMU for a full and speedy recovery to a fine man. Godspeed in your recovery Jon!

I’ve said it here myself because you have to feel that the BYE week may end up actually hurting us this season despite the fact that this is the time of season where it can really help a playoff push by getting guys healthy. On the other hand momentum is real, and the 5 week winning streak is now over, without actually playing. It’s going to take a lot of focus by our team to stay on track when we face the NY Jets at home at Hard Rock Stadium 12/19. At 6-7, defeating the Jets would bring us to .500 and still relevant for the playoff push, astonishing considering our 1-7 start.

The defense has come alive and has really sparked this team. The offense has done enough to win games but the defense has been the key. Tua has run this short passing offense as well as it could be run, making quick decisions, and quick, accurate throws. All this completely out of necessity due to the O-line’s inability to pass block and run block. For the millionth time it’s not because Tua can’t throw further than 5 yards, and to give ORob a pass here, he’s far from the only one who says that, I hear it on NY sports shows, I see it on twitter all the time from Dolphins fans and it’s just become like a tag Tua has now, that he has a pop gun arm. Personally, I couldn’t give a rats ass as long as when our O-line improves, that he shows all these people he can throw the ball downfield, but until then, I’m fine with him doing what’s necessary.

About that defense, our 2nd first round draft pick of 2021, DE/LB Jaelan Phillips has really turned up the heat! Of course it’s not just Phillips, Emmanuel Ogbah is as steady as they come, always bringing strong pressure from the other side. Ogbah leads the team with QB hits with 19, followed by AVG with 18, and then Phillips with 16. Of course, the rookie Phillips now leads with 8.5 sacks, followed by Ogbah with 6. Ogbah, Wilkins and Phillips are tied with 7 TFL. Xavien Howard has 4 INT’s, 2 FF’s, 2 FR’s, and 14 passes defensed, easily the leader on this team. Rookie Jevon Holland has also been a huge spark, rushing the QB, making tackles, snaring INT’s. He’s basically everywhere, especially since S Brandon Jones has missed some time.

Things are looking up people, the Dolphins are looking legit and our good friend Jon (Stanger) is healing and on the mend. Now Sonny can take us into the BYE week with the BYE Week Bi-Babe.

GO DOLPHINS!!!

If we can get Armstead or Brown we need to do that. It’s not necessarily about replacing Eich it’s about getting Davis out of the starting lineup and in to a utility role which is where he belongs

  4. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Ken,

I agree. Davis has always been the great utility 6th man but we’re always starting him every year. He’s not starting material. I think it’s a massive failure of several regimes to still have him as a every week starter.

  5. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Grier being praised for the amount of cap space they have next year is silly. They have 21 mil in dead cap this season and 1/2 the team are UFA next season. It’s pretty easy to have a lot of Space when you’re only have half a team under contract. 24 UFA next season.

Oh boy he has three good fucking draft picks on the first or second round. Players who are supposed to be good. He is easily missed on as many. A blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while and a broken clock is right twice a day. Chris Greers record is way under either of those.

He is a problem he’s been part of the problem for the last 20 years and it was a mistake making him general manager.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I think Grier’s draft this year saves him. Every GM makes mistakes but the hope is with the mistakes comes some home runs and this year the home runs came in bunches and it also looking like Tua may be another home run by the time this season is over

  6. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Plus he did idiomatic shit like trade Shaq Lawson for Benardrick McKinney and then cut him before he ever played. Paying both dead cat money.

  7. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Waddle, Phillips and Holland are very good picks
I don’t remember having 3 picks like that in one draft

Probably going back to Jimmy Johnson days to get that much value out of 1 draft

There’s some bad moves by our FO but those draft picks are very good

  8. ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

the draft is a crap shoot, there were other influences regarding Greir such as Gase, i think he had say on the roster.
regarding all the free agents, i’d rather not be tied to FAs who are not producing, the ones that are they can tray to resign.
how would you like to be tied to Will Fuller for a couple more seasons or Preston Williams, two guys who are always injured?

i would like to see Ogbah, Wilson, Roberts, Brown, Hollins, Smythe, Needham, Ford, resigned

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I’m in on that list of resignees, though Wilson and Ford are lower priority IMO

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

You seem to have forgotten your favorite TE?
I would also add Palardy, and Lindsy (if he can prove his health)

Brown and Wilson can take a walk

      • ocalarob's avatar ocalarob says:

I like Lindsay, Parady??? he’s had some bad punts, Not sure? maybe draft a punter late. Wilson is a must and also Ford, Wilson is a beast with speed, Ford has stuck around as much as they’ve tried to dump him, and he’s made some clutch catches this year.
        Gesicki is gone for sure.

I think you guys need to look around the league and see the records of other GMs before declaring Grier as terrible. Coaches he was working with also have to be taken into consideration and those guys had imput as well. Grier doesn’t work in a vacuum.

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

I don’t think Grier has done a horrible job!
I know some others do though.

I like the consistency we’ve had for 3 years. And think most of the issues on offense comes from the changing of OC’s every year more than the lack of talent!

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We need to build on a core team now. We have a lot of young talent to keep rolling with. Now add some more special.

  23. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

SB7, I hear ya, man. BUT, when ya have THREE 1st round Draft picks, and TWO of them are Iggy and Austin Sackson, flags must be thrown (now, in hindsight).

As I’ve stated constantly, Grier got “cute” with those picks.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

That stated, wouldn’t it be SOMETHING if Iggy and Austin FINALLY emerged in their 3rd seasons? I think it’s ‘possible’ with Iggy, but Austin should have shown something in his second season… not looking good for Austin Sackson.

      • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

I know you are down on Jackson.

But couldn’t put him on the bust list because he is a NFL starter!

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s very possible. Austin Jackson is only 22 in his 2nd season. He has had a rough start to his career no doubt. But the size and ability is there. I really don’t know what the issue is with him. He plays like he’s unsure about what he’s doing.

Iggy is also just 22 in his 2nd season. We all knew he was new to playing corner when we drafted him. A converted WR with 1.5 years experience at CB in college. I’ve seen him run stride for stride with WRs, make big hits and he’s an aggressive tackler. But he gets schooled playing the ball by NFL WRs.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Wyo, Jackson is still starting because the coaches and FO still see the potential in him. Can’t say that for Kindley. Not sure why he’s gone backwards.

  24. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Michael Strahan did his trip to space. Very cool! Strahan is an awesome person.

  25. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    SB7,

If drafting was the GM’s only job, I’d agree with you, but it isn’t. They sign Flowers and Kerras for two years but decide our OL is Dallas superb and don’t keep either past one year. We sign or keep injury prone WRs every year. We have the 2nd most money for FA next year but have kept Gesicki, one of our best and most durable threats, sitting in the wind on resigning here. We have $21 mill in wasted money from poor contracts this year. Grier is average at best. No one nationally or locally is saying Miami has way too much talent to be doing this badly. Because no one thinks Grier has gotten that much talent from his drafts. That’s with a ridiculous load of picks the past 3 years.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

There were some huge errors this off-season that are hard to ignore

      Fuller signing
      Karras\Flowers
      Van Noy

And it’s hard to ignore flirting with Watson even if Ross was spearheading that

But the draft picks actually look pretty good
      That’s actually a solid return

And the draft is the most important thing
Some teams like the Steelers and the Ravens have lived off the draft will little help from free agency

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Definitely and if our OL was even a decent OL, we’d probably not be talking about it. The OL being possibly the worst in the NFL helps to stir thoughts on other failings. I counted 13-14 in his drafts above that I thought were solid players which is really solid. He’s a good drafter.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We could easily sign Gesicki in the offseason. You don’t always have to sign a guy before he’s a UFA. We could franchise him and then get a deal done. We don’t know if Gesicki and his agent want to test the market first. The same with Ogbah. Those two are the only UFAs we really need to focus on. Most of our core players are under contract through 2022.

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

True but I also agree with your sentiment that we need two solid OL as well which will be expensive.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

        We’ll have plenty of money to sign whoever we want. We also have a solid draft in 2022 with 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 7, 7,

Next year is a big year for Grier and Flores. They have to win. Meaning winning record and playoffs.

As of October 19, our 2022 draft picks:

Miami Dolphins 2022 NFL Draft Picks
Round 1 (from 49ers): The Miami Dolphins secured first-round selections in 2021, 2022, and 2023, plus a 2022 third-round pick in the trade that saw the San Francisco 49ers select Trey Lance with the third overall selection of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Having made one mega-trade, the Dolphins then traded first-round selections in both 2021 and 2022, alongside a 2021 fourth-round pick, to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Dolphins received the Eagles’ first and fifth-round picks, selecting Jaylen Waddle and ultimately trading the fifth-rounder.

    Round 2

Round 3 (from 49ers): See Round 1 trade details

The Dolphins traded their 2022 third-round selection, plus a second-round pick in 2021, to the New York Giants. Miami used the acquired second-round pick on Notre Dame OT Liam Eichenberg.

    Round 4

Round 4 (from Steelers): The Dolphins traded their 2021 fifth-round selection acquired from the Eagles to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They received a fourth-round 2022 pick, and the Steelers selected Wisconsin DT Isaiahh Loudermilk.

    Round 5

    Round 5 (projected compensatory)

The Dolphins traded their sixth-round pick to the Baltimore Ravens in exchange for OC Greg Mancz.

Round 6 (from Patriots): The Dolphins received a conditional sixth-round selection from the Patriots for WR Isaiah Ford.

The Dolphins traded their seventh-round selection to the Rams for CB Aqib Talib and a 2022 fifth-round selection.

Round 7 (from Baltimore): The Dolphins received a seventh-round pick in the Mancz trade.

The Dolphins traded a seventh-round 2021 NFL Draft pick to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for OT Isaiah Wilson and a 2022 seventh-round pick. The Dolphins then traded that acquired pick to the Panthers in exchange for Greg Little.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Grier has been getting too cute with the picks. Only 3 of 8 picks next draft are our own.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Does that really matter? Hit on 2-3 really good players in this draft along with some quality FA signings to build on what we have going on right now could be good stuff in 2022. There is no more blow it up, heavy roster churning and learning curve next season. Time to become one of the better football teams in the NFL.

  27. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Tua’s stats are pretty impressive. The one I find very impressive is sacked only 12 times in 9 games playing with this OL.
    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/T/TagoTu00.htm

  28. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

We’ll have plenty of money to sign whoever we want.
    ———————————————————-
Not necessarily. Yeah, we have over 75mil in cap space, but we also ONLY have 36 players currently under contract for 2022 with some major players to resign and add (OL).

You can say we are still in a good position with our 75mil but so are the Pats with only 29.9mil of cap space because they have 47 players under contract for 2022 and basically have their major pieces in place.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Remember the cap is about annual numbers, not the total figure.

Who are the major players we need to re-sign?

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Mainly Ogbah and Gesicki. Then we need a stud OT and LG would be nice and an OC if Deiter isn’t the guy. Deiter is the only OC on our roster under contract for next year. There are 5 LB’s on this year’s roster who are not on next year’s roster also. Baker, AVG and Phillips are the only LB’s on the roster for next year. Also Nik Needham is a f/a. He won’t command much but at least double what he was making.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Not too worried about that. We could also draft a LB and/or re-sign Roberts or Riley. That is not big cap stuff.

  29. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I looked this up a few years ago. I don’t know if it’s the same anymore, but I’d guess it’s close. About 70% of 1-3 rd picks “make it” in the NFL. About 30% of the 4th and 5th. And around 15% or something like that for 6 and 7….if memory serves…so there’s that. All GMs miss a lot over 7 rounds. Grier hasn’t been great, but he hasn’t been bad either. I’d say he’s done as well as most GMs. I don’t agree with all of his choices, but I don’t really get the criticism. I’ve felt he’s overdrafted a few guys, but he’s also hit on some too.

  30. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

They have a decent secondary and solid D overall. Also, see how Desmond Ridder manages the game against them. He doesn’t have the greatest of weapons, I think. They will probably try to pound it with Jerome Ford unless they get behind.

ROCKPHIN: I COMPLETELY AGREE with your statement that Grier has missed on far more picks than he has hit on. His BIGGEST FAILURES, of course, have been on the O-Line where his recent picks have, for the most part, been DREADFUL!!
    ———————————————
HOWEVER, the one biggest fuck-up this season IMHO was Little Stevie Blunder’s ill-fated attempt to acquire a QB who, on the field, HAS FAILED to raise Houston out of the morass of failure and who, OFF THE FIELD, has managed to get into more legal trouble than I care to describe.

ROSS FAILED TO DO THE RIGHT THING.

ROSS FAILED to say that “Tua is our quarterback NOW, and for the rest of the season, and for as far ahead as I can see!” INSTEAD ROSS LET TUA TWIST SLOWLY IN THE WIND while the TEAM wondered if Tua would be GONE real soon. Predictably, the team lost focus and LOST TO TEAMS THEY SHOULD HAVE BEATEN (most notably Jacksonville) and subsequently lost 7 straight games, effectively KILLING THEIR SEASON!!

IF the last dozen years have proved anything, it’s the fact that Ross can’t win in the NFL. NOT an opinion, IT’S A FACT.

You’re about as funny as shotgun playaction

I am way funnier than that. I’m as l funny as you not understanding that play action can be called from out of any formation. Not just the I or the off-set I. Which is freaking hilarious.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Agreed, man. Kamara has looked fairly good today after missing the last 4 games. Containing Kamara will be a key to our victory over them.

  58. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I switched over to the Jags @ Titans after halftime. The Titans are no pushover, but they aren’t exactly some kind of ‘juggernaut’ team, either. We can beat them, and I predict we will (barring any injuries we may sustain between now and then).

M13, thought I would tell you that TM is being “shadow banned” by youtube on his last video release. He’s had over 10’s of thousands of complaints. They turn a blind eye though to those with labels like Lil Nas X and his raunchy shit. TM had over 1 mil views in under 2 days the last week it’s been snail crawling.

They are doing the same thing to DAX. He did a 20 min song with a one take video. Said that if he didn’t get 500K likes by Jan 1 he was going to sign with a label. His first week had well over a mil views and 200k likes. Second week, snail crawling with only about 45k more likes.

It’s sad what the mainstream can get away with when it comes to hurting independents.

  62. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t so much call these guys busts as I do misses, but yeah, some are busts. These are the misses, not including late round flyers.

    2017 1 Charles Harris 22 OLB
    2017 2 Raekwon McMillan 54 LB
    2017 3 Cordrea Tankersley 97 CB
    2017 5 Isaac Asiata 164 G
    2018 4 Kalen Ballage 131 RB
    2020 1 Austin Jackson 18 T
    2020 1 Noah Igbinoghene 30 CB
    2020 4 Solomon Kindley 111 G

Many of the others were good enough to start here (due to general lack of talent) but were late round guys so they don’t make the list. STILL building a team with “successful” 2nd stringers if they were on other teams is not really a success…..

  63. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    WAY TO GO, BROWNIES!!!

  67. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We need 1 of the current wildcard teams to lose 2 games, all 3 have 5 loses

With Raven’s loss it gives us more options

Brown’s loss would’ve been secondary, less important

Browns brutal schedule, so 4 more games to lose one

  68. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

He will be an UFA next year. His numbers have been pedestrian to say the least until today. I am probably just as baffled as M13 about his career in the NFL.

Maybe he just needs a change of scenery.

  69. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I still don’t get it. We have to leapfrog these teams anyway to get in. Would have been much easier to have Ravens win division and beat Browns and Steelers.

I mean someone has to win their division. We are trying to out win whoever is 2nd, 3rd and 4th in that division for a WC spot.

A Browns loss today would have had them tied with us at 6-7 but we would of had a better conference record at 4-5 to their 3-6 and would be ahead of them in the WC race all ready.

Now, since the Browns won, we are still 2 games behind the Ravens, 1 game behind the Browns and our conference records are now tied at 4-5.

    I don’t get the logic.

  70. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Some on here say we need a Buff win. Don’t get that either.

BTW that 4 man sack just now on Allen was beautiful !!!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Buff still has to play Car, Atl and jets, the only way a Buff loss helps us is if we win out and Buff ends up 9-8

If we’re tied with Buff, with or without other teams, for the last playoff spot they win the division tie breaker and we’re out

Which of Car, Atl and jets do you think has a chance to beat them?

  71. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Balt and Cin both have 5 losses and still have to play each other once, so barring a tie that’s 6 losses for one of them, then we’ll need just 1 more loss by the liser of that game

Both may finish 10-7 or even worse with their rough schedules

  72. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We just need to get to week 18 without another loss, then let the chips fall where they may against the cheats

I didn’t realize it had finally happened, but I just knew it was going to happen, eventually. I’m an indy artist/producer/songwriter (obviously), and every time I’d pick up some steam over the years, my radio playing time was cut in favor of BIG RECORDS.

BIG CORPS run the world/America, and they dictate who becomes good/great in the music industry… and it’s been that way for a long time, but it’s getting increasingly worse and worse with time. I was raising hell about our government back in the late 90s, and ‘the man’ did NOT like it… and I never made it political, as in Dems vs Reps or Liberals vs Conservatives.

I’ve been offered deals by many record labels, and I — and will ALWAYS — turn them down. I’m not going to be told what to say, what to think, how to talk, or what to tell my listeners… I CANNOT BE BOUGHT OR SOLD, and I will NEVER BE A SLAVE to a record label!!! Write that down, and realize I mean what I say.

THANK GOD I’ve got friends (some of whom are MAJOR PLAYERS… household names) in the industry who have advised me to STAY INDY… I think some of y’all already know the name of one of my cats… but I digress.

Social media is (hopefully?) about to grow away from just YouTube, Twitter, and ‘FacePlant’ (aka: Meta), so I don’t think TMD needs to worry too much… nor does DAX. I would advise them to stay independent, keeping the $$$ out of the hands of their ‘enemies’ (MSM and BIG TECH).

Can anybody imagine if the shoe was on the other foot… so as to cancel freedom of speech on the left side of the aisle?

The government of yesteryear TRIED to cancel the likes of 2Pac, Ice-T, Ice Cube, Sinead O’Conner, 2 Live Crew, and many, many others… they FAILED, and RIGHTFULLY so, due to #1A.

Nowadays, this leftist government is actively and truly canceling freedom of speech, under the guise of ‘private companies’ (AKA: BIG BIZ and BIG TECH) and their policies… it’s as though they are exacting revenge for something that hadn’t happened to them (the suppression of speech from 2Pac, Ice-T, etc…)

I STAND with TMD and DAX!!!
