Exactly this. It seems to be entirely due to whether your natural immunity system goes into overdrive and tries to drown you as a result, which also seems to be linked to your genetic make-up, which in turn can have links back to ethnicity. As far as I know they haven’t identified why yet.
Think I mentioned previously I had pneumonia early ’20 and as an asthmatic, I was really scared of Covid, but other than mild flu symptoms and loss of taste/smell for 5 days it was no biggie when I got the original variant in October ’20. That doesn’t mean I’m downplaying Covid at all. Quite the contrary, I am triple vaxxed with 2xAZ and 1 Pfizer booster. I also get the flu jab for asthma. Like Ken it doesn’t bother me one iota. I see vaccination like house insurance. You might never need it. When you do need it, it might not cover you (88% effectiveness against severe disease is the accepted wisdom over here), but if it covers you when needed it’s money. My understanding is that there is also evidence to suggest reduced transmission when vaxxed so I see it as doing my bit for the old/vulnerable who are most at risk. Finally, Sir Chris Whitty (Chief Medical Officer of the NHS here) stated that immunity is a complex business and there is such a thing as broad spectrum low-level immunity, which is boosted by current vaccinations and will help protect against future variants. Back to the house insurance analogy.
As for “the science”, well, when you discover something new, you probably learn something new about it every day. Anyone holding extreme black and white views in a world full of grey perhaps ought to pause for thought. I don’t think this applies to any FU’ers btw.

The O-line deservedly gets a lot of blame this year, but it was the coaches who felt they could move on from veteran talent and put these guys out there by themselves. As good as Tua has been this year, he’s also done a lot to hurt this team, but nothing that can’t be cleaned up. If we are going to continue to run this RPO, he’s going to have to make better reads more consistently.
There are times where his mind is made up of where he’s going to go and the throws it incomplete or into coverage with guys wide open. This happened a lot on important downs and in the redzone. Like I said, it can be cleaned up. He’s barely played a season and a half of games in his career so I understand where he is. I’m worried about the coaching he’s getting big time though. It will be interesting to see how the coaching staff is handled this off-season. Flores needs to seriously consider hiring some offensive consultants in the offseason. Just some retired guys who were tops at their craft to help the inexperienced along and be better coaches. I’ve seen plenty of winning coaches do this over the years.

To finish up on WR, for now. I really like Garrett Wilson if we miss on Williams and Dotson.
Wilson is Waddle like. Wilson is bigger though at 6′ 203 pounds and projected to run a 4.41. Doesn’t seem to matter if he is facing zone or man press. He is very good at shaking off man press at the line and use his speed to get separation.
Sign A-Rob or Adams to go with Waddle and Wilson. That would be sick as hell.

Regarding the influenza shot. It’s almost a crap shoot when they make the vaccine. The WHO Collaborating Centers meet in February (northern hemisphere) to come up with a vaccine they THINK will work for the upcoming flu season in the fall. Their info is based on what they are seeing in patients (what is circulating at the time) come the end of the current flu season. They have to do it this early as it takes about 6 months to make.
PROBLEM is big pharma doesn’t even wait for that decision. Some manufacturers may start growing one or more viruses for the vaccine even before a WHO or FDA decision is made based on what they THINK may be the recommended vaccine viruses. Big pharma does this early so they can produce a greater number of vaccines to make more money. No matter what, their vaccine gets approved by the FDA. Influenza vaccine is a 1.6 billion dollar industry all by itself.
Some flu vaccines are affective and some not as affective. When they are not, it could be that big pharma swung and missed or there are some strains of influenza viruses that are very difficult to grow in eggs. This makes it very difficult to get a good virus in which to make a vaccine.
Despite this huge collaboration with these WHO Collab Centers, almost every country decides individually what viruses are going to be in their vaccine.
Like the COVID shot, get your flu shot if you desire. It may help you fight it a little better if you get it. I chose not to at this point in my life. Maybe in the future when I am older and in that high risk group. For now, I chose to fight anything naturally.

Anyway, the way I feel, getting vaxed is a good choice but not getting vaxed is not a bad choice.
I’ll just chime in with my thoughts on COVID. As some where saying yesterday, with all the misinformation it is hard to know what is real, what is true, and what to believe, unless you dedicate a large portion of time to sifting and wading through all the garbage.
With COVID, I just look at what I have experienced in real life. In my 40+ years, I’ve known a couple people that have died from complications brought on by flu. I myself had a real serious bout of swine flu about 10 years ago, not life-threatening, but serious enough I went to the doctor and even got a flu shot the next two years (never had a flu shot prior or since after those two years). That is my experience with flu.
In just under 2 years, I know probably a dozen people who have lost someone to COVID and have heard of dozens more, friends, coworkers, etc, and not all of them have been old and/ or sick. I see it compared to a flu and a cold, but in regards to mortality, that just hasn’t been my experience, it’s been much deadlier. It does seem like a crap shoot with this bug, so I got the J&J vax because it just seems like it improves your chances of surviving it. I haven’t got the booster yet, but probably will. Will I do it every year? shrug, I’ll cross each bridge as I reach it. The new strain is much milder, maybe I only get boosters the years we have strong strains.
Regarding vaccination, I think ER’s post yesterday probably comes closest to my own thoughts on it. I am very pro choice in regards to getting the vax, both individually and businesses who choose to mandate it, I believe businesses can make the choice to require it, and a person can choose to work there or not, but let’s not federally mandate it. Just my two cents.

One time I was drunk. Let me rephrase that, one of the times I was drunk, one of the cabins we get is kind of high up and overlooks the city of Gatlinburg. Wife took a pic of me at night standing on the deck naked doing my best superman pose with the city of Gatlinburg lit up down below. It was a really cool pic with the city all lit up and heavy snow coming down. Also because it was from behind and my GUT didn’t show. If it was from the side I would have been like, “Whoa, delete!” lol

I work off of I-95 in VA where the worst of it hit. VDOT didn’t prep the roads and there was little to no action in regards to maintaining the roads once the snow started coming down. Total failure of government leadership.

Someone said earlier or yesterday that our pick would not be better than #21 (I believe we are #22 right now). Not true, 49er’s could still get knocked out of playoffs. I think we just need a Saints win at Atlanta and 49er’s lose at the Rams.
If 49er’s miss the playoffs, worst our pick will be is #18 and could end up higher depending where the tie breakers are.

There are so many teams with similar records it could flip so many different ways. However it plays out we can get a good player wherever we end up picking. We have a lot of cap to target FA so there will be plenty of ways to upgrade our team. Like always, just have to add the right players.

Tim, I think playoff teams have their draft position based on when they exit the playoffs. Tiebreakers are applied between the teams that exit on the same weekend if their records were the same
You’re right I just read about it. Our 1st rd pick from SF could be somewhere between the teens and as far as they go if they do make the playoffs. The good thing is they’re playing the Rams in LA, and the Rams are still playing for the #2 seed in the NFC. Not aware of all the scenarios if they win or lose though.

I keep going back and forth on this regime. We nailed the draft, but really screwed the pooch in FA. They could have completely lost this team, but didn’t. When you watch our players, they generally love being around one another. We seem to have a great locker room right now and I’d hate to mess that up. The names I keep seeing don’t excite me at all, besides, the fixes for this current team are simple:
Veteran O-line – FA
Stud drafted RB
Stud drafted WR
Reliable and consistent WR – FA
Retain key performers who are FA’s this year (ie Duke, Lindsay, Ogbah, Hollins, Ford, etc.)
I say that hoping this coaching staff should be able to make those things happen, but this past offseason FA wise really left a bad taste in my mouth. Although the previous year was reversed with good FA’s and bad top of the draft. I just want to see some consistency. Don’t “fix” things that aren’t broke and just improve with the good foundation that we have.
Also, would it be too much to ask to simply stand behind the young QB that you drafted? FFS. Stop courting tainted meat. Stop pulling him late in games. Stop pulling him in critical situations. Stop the stupid gimmick plays right in the middle of momentum. I feel like Philbin and Gase are still running the offense half the time.
Zac Taylor is in his third year of HC, with 2 really miserable years and 1 good one. He’s a former Dolphins coordinator and his team has several ex-Dolphins coordinators/ players on his staff.
Other than Burrow coming into his own, I’m not sure by looking at his staff how he’s doing it. Maybe Bill Callahan’s son (The OC) is a rising star, and maybe Taylor just needed time. It’s just interesting to me, especially with Lou Anarumo as his DC.

Think Preston was hurt all year, going forward hope we can get 1 full WR out of Parker/Preston to team with Waddle outside
Waddle was good this year, but we’re wasting him inside, need Bowden to fill that role
Hurns, Ford and Hollins could used as needed
I’m not sure what you’ve seen in Hurns or Bowden that has warranted them playing time. Preston hasn’t been healthy his entire time here. We need a guy to guy to grow with Waddle and replace Parker. Someone who can actually get separation and stay healthy. I’m not sure what you mean by doing more with lesser units. Would you like to give an example?
I agree that a FA WR would be a luxury, but we’ll have the money to do that and sign o-line. We need to upgrade where we can offensively. I’m not looking for Davante Adams, but someone who costs around 6-8 million a year that is reliable, stays healthy and can get separation. Someone that will allow Waddle to move to the outside.

Good enough isn’t going to get this team to take the next step Steve. We can’t keep going into the offseason saying this and that position is okay and serviceable and then wonder why we aren’t doing well.
I think we all need to upgrade our backup QB position. Just not sure who that would be with the current f/a market for QB. Drafting one is a crap shoot and don’t care to do that 1st 4 rounds unless someone really slips. One guy who caught my eye in the Texas Bowl was Skylar Thompson from Kansas State. He is 6’2 223. His numbers have gotten better every year though not eye popping. He missed a few games this year but came back for the Texas Bowl and will be playing in the Shrine Bowl. Looks to have decent arm strength but not a cannon. Has good footwork and pocket presence. He has all the tools to work with IMO.
His best game this year was vs #6 Oklahoma where he was 29-41 for 320 at 70.7% with 3 TD’s and 0 INTS.
I would draft him in the 6th or 7th if he is there. Right now, he is projected 7th or UDFA. I think he climbs in this weak QB group.
He looks good, pretty strong arm, can move run/throw on the run and step up, good RPO, because his threat to run is there, still waiting on seeing him go thru his progressions though
OL 1 very good vet FA to play RT and one drafted in the 1st to play OC or OG
Show Jackson the bench, think Eichenberg, Deiter and Hunt are serviceable
Maybe Jones and Larnel develop
Been doing my mocks with really not knowing much about later round players. I was looking up small school players yesterday. I really think we need to try and upgrade Rowe at SS with a more hard hitting run defending safety. One that tackles like a LB but still good in coverage.
One dude I found was Marquese Bell, FAMU. He started with a rocky road being recruited to play at Maryland but was suspended indefinitely. Coming out of HS he was ranked as the nation’s 10th-best athlete.
He is listed at 6’3 205 but they said he played this season at 210. Everything I have read said he has real top NFL talent.
Could be another late round steal.
After getting suspended by Maryland, he played in JUCO then transferred to FAMU.

Most of the prospects I recognize during the draft are guys I’ve learned about on this board. So much appreciated to the guys like you BBM, that do the player evals and mock drafts.
Another small school player to watch for later rounds is CB Joshua Williams from Fayetteville state. He is 6’2.5 and has track speed. Having hard time finding video on him. It will come up closer to the draft. He was highlighted on “thedraftnetwork”. “A supremely athletic prospect—like Bell—Williams is a downhill defender who isn’t afraid to stick his face in the mud in the run game. His fluid feet and quick-twitch ability to flip his hips in man pops on tape and are traits that should immediately translate to Sundays. He’s looking to become the first Bronco to be drafted since 1976.”
He will be playing in the HBCU Legacy Bowl which is a new bowl like the Senior Bowl to feature the best NFL draft-eligible football players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
I think the HBCU Legacy Bowl will become a valuable draft tool like the Senior Bowl. You look at the NFL talent who have come from these small schools is kind of mind blowing.

He continues to improve physically. He is stronger and is sitting himself up in bed. He remains unable to communicate at this time but is working with a speech pathologist. He tracheostomy remains in place. He is off all sedation
