Miami Dolphins – Where do we go from here?

There are so many moves the Miami Dolphins organization need to make, the most obvious one is hiring a new Head Coach, and having that Head Coach assemble an entire coaching staff. I liked Brian Flores. I liked his no nonsense personality, I liked his toughness. I didn’t like the staff he put together, and that includes revamping his staff last season. As the group Depeche Mode says, “Everything counts in large amounts”. Flores was the architect of a poor staff. I’m not picking on him because he’s gone, just stating the obvious. I can’t say whether his first season’s plan was just to work with guys familiar to him, or he simply had no NFL ties and took what he could get. In 2019, He brought both OC Chad O’Shea and DC Patrick Graham from the New England Patriots. In 2020, Flores tabbed long time NFL’er Chan Gailey, who was probably pretty sure he was never ever going to coach again, and named him OC. Not that Chan Gailey wasn’t qualified, but I’m sure Flores’ call was the ONLY call Chan Gailey received as far as NFL offers were concerned. Chan Gailey departs so in 2021, Flores has the brilliant idea of naming Co-OC’s (supposedly in order to keep any teams from stealing them away), so 2020 Tight Ends Coach George Godsey and 2020 Running Backs Coach Eric Studesville are promoted together to form the NFL’s first 2 headed Offensive Coordinator Duo. Sometimes having more is better, The Tucker had a center headlight in addition to the 2 common ones on either side of the front of the vehicle. The center headlight actually turned left when the car was turning left and right when the car was turning right. Ingenious! The Co-CO idea, not so much. The Dolphins offense was 22nd in the NFL scoring 20.1 PPG and if not for the defense setting up the offense so many times, it would have been considerably worse.

I’m going to recommend something I know many of you here won’t be in favor of. I can tell you, I’m not sure I’m in favor it myself. Hear me out though. You can build for now, or build for later. Instant gratification or long term success. Either can be satisfying. The problem with my recommendation is that one important step needs to happen before this can even be possible. Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh needs to step down from his current post. If that happens, I think we should be the first, and most likely the last to offer him a Head Coaching position in the NFL. When you hire a guy from the college ranks, you get a guy who knows all the college players, what they’re capable of, who the right ones are for what they want to accomplish, on both sides of the ball. What you usually get is a guy who doesn’t know the NFL, and how to deal with NFL players. Not the case with Harbaugh, who has successfully run an NFL team, quite successfully I might add. From 2011-2014, Jim Harbaugh compiled a 44-19 record with the SF 49ers. He did that with 2 QB’s who were not considered upper echelon talents in Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick. For some reference, Alex Smith was 19-31 in 5 seasons as the Niners QB. With Harbaugh, his first season was 13-3. His 2nd season was cut short due to injury but the Niners were 6-2-1 with Smith. So 19-2-1 for one and a half seasons after 19-31 in 5 without Harbaugh. We all know who took over after Alex Smith went down, my former crush Colin Kaepernick. No problem for Harbaugh. Kaepernick after taking over the helm went 5-2 and took the Niners to the playoffs. A huge upset 1st RD victory over the Green Bay Packers, 45-31 started an improbable run. The Niners then defeated the Atlanta Falcons 28-24 to earn a Super Bowl berth. The SF 49ers lost a thriller of a game, 34-31 to the Baltimore Ravens.

Still with me? My favorite MLB team the NY Mets made a very similar move recently. They decided to bring in a proven winner in Buck Showalter. Results have yet to be determined and if the bougy MLB Players Union doesn’t get it’s collective head out of its ass, we may not see a MLB season next year. The Mets have decided instead of hiring a young up and comer, they want to win NOW! Forget 3-5 years from now, NOW! They know Showalter knows exactly what he’s supposed to do in every and any situation, there’s nothing he hasn’t seen. The very same would go with Jim Harbaugh. I think it’s an extremely unique situation to be able to get a guy who is so in touch with the college game and all the players, yet has had tremendous NFL success as well. I say if Jim Harbaugh steps down as Michigan HC, Stephen Ross should fly one of his fucking planes as fast as they can fly and throw down some stacks of $$$$ to secure the best Head Coach for RIGHT NOW, the Dolphins can get. Personally, I think Harbaugh is a bit of a time bomb, and I have no idea how long he can last if he comes back to the NFL. My guess is it would be a similar gig to the Niners. He’d stay as long as they were winning. That’s not a terrible thing either. If for some reason he fails right off the bat, which I think is unlikely, he may try one more time. If he fails again I would think he’d step down and disappear and we’d probably want him to. I think if he does come back to the NFL, I think he’d be great for our team. Our defense would continue to flourish and he’d get Tua a run game if it killed him. Defense, running the ball, all the things we crave here. All that will make Tua better and more importantly, the Miami Dolphins better.

I’m open to other HC’s too, there are lots of ways to skin a cat. I actually don’t know how many ways there are and not sure why people think are so many ways to skin a cat, but there really are a lot of different avenues to explore in a Head Coach search. I’m sure Tom Garfinkel and Chris Grier are doing that as I type. Maybe it’s because I’m 58 now and my mortality is in the back of my mind. Who knows, maybe Mike McDaniel is the next Mike Tomlin. At 38 he’s a tad older than Tomlin was when he took over the Pittsburgh Steelers at the age of 35. To have continuity and longevity along with winning would be swell, but make no mistake about this my fellow Dolphins fans, the Miami Dolphins franchise is NOT the Pittsburgh Steelers franchise. The Steelers are steeped in tradition and their owner doesn’t flip-flop on their decisions. Since 1969, The Steelers had HC Chuck Knoll 1969-1991, Bill Cowher 1991-2006, then Mike Tomlin from 2007 – present. Not only do they have consistency, but they WIN. So do I crave the same? I would wait until we clean house of our current GM before heading out on that path, which is another strong reason I prefer Harbaugh. With Harbaugh at the helm, it’s gonna be his way or the HAR-way. If Chris Grier didn’t like Brian Flores, he’s gonna hate Harbaugh, because this would be his show, guaranteed. He won’t allow Grier to undermine him and his cachet dictates that he deserves as much. Unfortunately, Harbaugh may have no intentions of leaving his current post, but if he does . . .

To elaborate on some great news we got yesterday, I’d like to share that I also got to speak to Jon “Stanger” yesterday, and considering what that man has been through, I was absolutely shocked as to how great he sounded. As I’m typing now I’m literally getting goosebumps and tearing up because he literally sounded just like the old Stanger, and that’s not being kind, or overenthusiastic or wishful, that boy is BACK! Now he needs to get his body back to where his head is and he’ll be in better shape at the next Fest than he was at the last. He’s currently just dealing with atrophy from being in a bed so long, and I believe he will respond very well to rehab, both occupational and physical therapy. I have to give both Jon and his wife a lot of credit, they really clawed back from some tough odds. Maybe our Dolphins can do the same!

So I’ve tried to figure out what exactly went on during that Bills punt in the 4th quarter.

The Bills punted, one of the Bills voluntarily went out of bounds on the coverage and was flagged, and the Chiefs were also flagged for a personal foul low block on the return. The refs went and talked to Andy Reid, announced the penalties, then stated that KC has elected to replay the down.

I can’t figure out how this was ruled. First, the NFL has a 15/5 rule, a major penalty overrules a minor penalty. I looked it up and confirmed the out of bounds is a 5 yd penalty and the personal foul was a 15 yd penalty.

So, first I’m not sure why that play didn’t stand with the Chiefs having the ball and being assessed a 15 yard penalty on the return.

I looked at the boxscore, and the boxscore says they were offsetting penalties. Ok, if the penalties were offsetting, then you replay the down. Why did KC have the ‘option’ to replay the down like the ref announced?

Neither coach made an issue of it, and I can’t find a single article on it the day after, so there must be something I’m missing, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out what it is.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Ha! Just found it. It still doesn’t explain the 15/5 rule not being enforced, I imagine that’s just an exception somewhere in there (I’m not going to bother looking for it), but here is the rule that explains why KC had the option to replay the down as offsetting or just enforce their own 15 yd penalty and lose the yardage.

Basically, since the Bills foul was prior to the Chiefs gaining possession, the Chiefs had an option.

      Under Section 3, article 1:

      Exceptions:
      (1) If the kickers foul during a kickoff, punt, safety kick, or field-goal attempt before possession changes, the receivers will have the option of replaying the down at the previous spot (offsetting fouls), or keeping the ball after enforcement for its fouls.

      Click to access 17_Rule14_Penalty_Enforcement.pdf

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I think they just messed up the explanation. The effect of what happened was off setting penalties which is what I think it officially was

  2. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think the idea behind that exception is this:

Bills kickoff and get flagged for running out of bounds on the coverage. Chiefs return the ball and score a TD, but at the 5 yd line right before they score, they’re flagged for a block in the back. The NFL sayd the Chiefs really shouldn’t be penalized with offsetting fouls negating that entire good play (similar to holding being penalized from the spot of the foul if it’s past the line of scrimmage instead of the original line). They have the option to take the return and have a 10 yard penalty tacked on taking them back to the 15 instead of rekicking.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

We probably see it fairly often as offsetting not realizing the receiving team actually had a choice, since you’d only accept your penalty if you had a really good return

I have a feeling Brian Daboll is going to be the HC of the Giants.
    ————————————————-
Lot of rumors that its Flores’ job. I dunno though your in the area ya probably got a better idea. I think Daboll is who we want, and the way i feel about it is they should make the move soon and with as much gusto as needed to secure the top choice this time not scavenge the leftovers. Dan Quinn i think would be a decent option, Peterson maybe. I am not feeling that little kid from SF, he looks like someone id try to stand away from on a train/subway because he looks like he would reek of patchouli and body odor. Id be preety good with McDaniels out of NE though i have a feeling he stays there and keeps praying Belichick has a stroke at a presser.

  5. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Why don’t they just tweak it: if the first team who has the ball scores, the other team gets a possession to match or win. If they both have a possession and it is still tied, it is sudden death from there.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I understand both sides of the argument. The thing that bothers most people is a coin flip is what possibly decides the game. Especially in a game that was tied 36-36.

      • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

It wouldn’t in my scenario. Just keep it like it is but give the other team the ball even if the first scores a TD

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I get that but I think the reason it is the way it is, is the NFL doesn’t want OT to go on forever. If both teams score TDs, now the team who won the coin toss and scored first can win it with a FG so we’re back to another advantage. With the way it is now, if the team that gets the ball first does not score a TD or a FG, the other team can win it with just a FG. I think there was a lot discussed in deciding these rules. The main one for me is the league does not want 5 and 6 quarter games and still tied.

  6. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think, instead of a coin flip going forward
    They should pay me $50,000
Then I’ll pick who goes first

    Problem solved!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      LOL

How about both teams get a possession and if they both score TDs, next is a FG competition from 58 yards. Odds are is both kickers aren’t going 3-3. Someone is going to miss. Kind of like a shootout in hockey. This keeps exhausted players from having to play long OT games. Injuries are more prominent when players are tired.

The only way we’re going to know if Tua can be a championship QB is to put an OL in front of him that is at least adequate and surround him with playmakers. Let’s not act like the top QBs have no weapons on offense. They all do. We’re not good enough on offense due to a lack of skill players. We’re okay. Other teams are really good. Load up in 2022.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Yes, it’s easier said than done though. A lot of teams will be looking to upgrade their OL this offseason. There will be a lot of competition.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed but that’s we have to do.

I know not everyone here is a Fantasy Football guy but I’ve doing it for 32 years, and I was acting as a consultant for a friend in a league he is in that has all sorts of games to the Super Bowl after the typical FF season. FF is all about production. This year from what I saw the only Dolphins on a majority of FF teams were Waddle, Gaskin, the hot hand for a few weeks with Duke, a few with Parker and Gesicki and the Dolphins DEF/STs mainly down the stretch. Tua was a backup here and there. Only Waddle was a regular starter for FF teams.

The playoff teams loaded the FFL rosters. It does tell the story of the season.

      • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Fortunately we have lots of cap space and no state income tax

  11. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

When you watched these playoff games the last two weeks, you’re not seeing bombs away football. A few here and there, but most of the game is run to at least keep it honest, short and medium range passing game, defense and STs. The difference is the least mistakes made by QBs and players that make big plays. Receivers who get YAC and backs who break runs. We don’t have enough playmakers on offense. I know I repeat myself on this but it’s really obvious now. LOL

I’m building around Tua and Waddle and revamping everything else. Sure some guys we already have or will re-sign (Hollins-WR/STs) will be part of that for competition and depth, but I don’t see other must keep players on offense. You can’t draft Tua at #5 in 2020 coming off of an injury, working his way into the NFL with a sub par offense and say yeah he’s not the answer after 2 seasons. That’s just stupid! Oh yeah he’s 13-8 in games he plays but he’s the problem. LOL

  12. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,
Offenses just aren’t all that different. Football isn’t that complicated. Teams have always figured out different ways to window dress…different sorts of alignments or motion or what have you….but most teams run similar offenses. Even in the playoffs we’ve been seeing some terrible OL play. Even so, guys like Brady, Mahomes and Allen were all getting pressured and sacked a lot. All their OLs looked bad.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Right! Playmakers make the difference. Deebo Samuel doesn’t catch 65 yard deep throws for TDs, he catches a slant and takes it to the house. He runs the ball and takes it to the house. That’s what I’m talking about.

We see 1st and 10, 2nd and 6, 3rd and 4 etc. often in games. Big plays change games. Like you said everyone is doing the same thing. Playmakers help you get to the next level.

You always said it’s about talent. I agree. 😉

Now lets go get sum!!!! LOL

  13. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ken, yes and we have a good draft even though the SF pick is falling lower and lower, lol. 1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 7, 7 is a solid draft. Our cap space allows us to add key positions before we even draft. Build around Tua!!!!

I want 2 vet starters on the OL, 2 new RB, 3 new WR and maybe another TE. That’s 8 players. It’s not that much to ask for in FA and the draft.

Yeah we need some additions on defense mainly because of FA, but it’s not as much as offense. We have to start scoring 24+ or more on offense.

JUST SAW TWO headlines on ESPN’s tracker that caught my eye.
    1) ESPN announced that Dick Vitale will NOT appear on any more basketball telecasts this season. I hope that doesn’t mean his cancer has reappeared. I think he’s 82 and has previously been ruled in remission. I know he’s bombastic and he gets on some people’s nerves. But I’ve NEVER DOUBTED his love for the game and his endless enthusiasm for promoting it.

    2) The owner of the Saints confirms the organization does not know if Sean Peyton will (or wants to) return as head coach of that franchise.. Is he burned out? Or does he want to move on to a different franchise? In either case, I don’t believe the Dolphins should pursue him. We need someone in their 30’s or early 40’s, not someone approaching their 59th birthday. Plus, I don’t think there’s enough money in the world to get Peyton to work for someone like Ross. My best guess is that Ross will wait until most of the big names have found a coaching job, then he’ll make a move for someone who is less experienced, and cheaper, than some of the big names that are mentioned frequently. This guy will, like all of Ross’s prior coaches, fail miserably and end up getting fired around Ross’s 85th or 86th birthday.

    Bring on Bruce Beal!!!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I would hire Sean Payton as HC in a second. His run in New Orleans might be up because the team has been decimated by injuries and Drew Brees retired. But he’s under contract. It would have to involve draft picks to pry him away from the Saints unless they fired him.

I think he would be great for Tua.

      • randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

NO WAY PAYTON works for Ross.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

OD, I have no idea if he would or not. I don’t agree with you as you know, that not everything Ross does is bad. The Dolphins facilities are best in class and he has never been cheap signing players. Remember Suh? X and Byron Jones.

  15. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Would you be willing to give up our 1st round draft pick this year and one of our two 1st round draft picks next year to get Sean Payton as our HC in 2022?

I would. I think he’s a top HC who would get our offense on track and hire a good DC to keep the defense ascending.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Since we have two 1sts in 2023 and our 1st this year is going to be pick #87 by the time the playoffs end anyway, I’d do it in a heartbeat, lol.

Honestly though, I think Tua’s skill set is very similar to Brees and Payton would probably be the best hire possible for us with Tua at QB.

  16. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Mike, I’m not sure what we’re going to do at HC. I think Sean Payton is on the Andy Reid level. They will get you to the playoffs most of the time. You can’t win it if you’re not in it.

  17. randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

TIM; PAY BETTER attention to what I write.
FIRST; I DON’t go to a stadium to see the stadium (hence my appreciation for the old, somewhat decrepit, Orange Bowl during its heyday.
SECOND; I NEVER SAID Ross was cheap getting his players. Indeed, just the opposite often is true. He has OVERPAID for what he got out of Suh and some other bigger name players.
THIRD; TO REITERATE, he WON’T pay the going rate for Payton and other big name coaches. IN FACT, he called in Brian Billick (when Billick still was a big name) ostensibly to discuss the Dolphins’ HC job. But, instead, he turned it into a screaming contest, berating Billick for losing the prior season to Miami and, according to Ross, costing him an extra 1 million dollars (far less than 1 per cent of the purchase price) when he, Ross, bought the Fins from Huizenga!!
ROSS IS FAMOUS for waiting until the “big name” candidates are signed, sealed and delivered, then spending less money on unproven or relatively inexperienced guys for the HC job (Dan Campbell and Tony Sparano come to mind in this regard). NO WONDER he’s had so many failures!!!
SO, TIM, criticize me for what I say—that’s fair game. But DON’T CRITICIZE ME for things I have not said and don’t believe in.

If Brady and the Pets had lost that game, we’d already have new OT rules.

    We’re you just joking?

I’m sure you know how new rules get put in, or at least have an idea

At the annual meeting, the Competition Committee presents a report of its findings to the 32 owners, who vote on any proposed new rules or rules changes. To be adopted, a new rule or a revision must have the support of 75 percent of the owners (24 yes votes out of 32 clubs).

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yes I know the owners vote on rules changes, it was tongue in cheek based on a kernel of truth like most of the things we say about Brady and/ or the Pets.

I imagine the NFL owners club is like any other leadership organization and there are top dogs and factions. If Kraft wanted that rule changed, maybe he could make it happen, maybe not, either way it was a joke. 😉

Yeah, UK. Funny I watched a similar video this morning of all his long passes. He can do it and with accuracy. He just doesn’t have a cannon.

I then watched some Drew Brees video’s and saw the same in Tua and actually Tua looked to have a stronger arm.

Then, I watched a long video of all Tua’s passes last season. IMO, the dink and dunk is what was being called and that was what Tua was taking. There may have been an open receiver farther down field, but the play called was the shorter route. He made the pass the play called for as far as the design.

Problem with that offense was we didn’t/don’t have the playmakers to get the YAC except for Waddle. You look at the Chiefs offense. Mahomes is throwing the same passes as Tua. Chiefs just have multiple players that get YAC (Hill, Kelcie, Hardman, Pringle and Edwards-Hellaire).

      We have Waddle and…

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Of course, they had better game planners, better coaching and better play calling.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Don’t agree, a pass play is called with routes of different lengths, Tua chooses more often than not to throw short, if the throw is quick it’s likely called, but not if he’s going thru his progressions

The video is very short, because he doesn’t throw downfield enough, most of it were passes to Gesicki, so maybe there’s a priority to re-sign him

Also, when you have a big arm you can get the ball into tight windows quickly, before the S gets over, allowing you to throw more deep passes, it also puts fear into a D, which softens it up for short stuff and runs, ORob’s main point

I need to look at more small school receivers. His 4th round receiver looks good. He is 6’5 208 and runs a low 4.4. Dude can run well after the catch with his size. I like him. I would almost take him at 100 and DE Thomas later.

I like his LB pick as well, David Anenih 6’3 249

Don’t think we need the TE pick though if we resign Smythe as a blocking TE and then we have Long.

If I were Ross, I’d do whatever it takes to get Payton in here in 2022. Yes he says he doesn’t wanna coach this year but money talks.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He was getting paid a lot in New Orleans. He just walked away from 2 more years of it. It’s not about money for him. Sounds to me like he wants to sit back and evaluate where he is in life and then see if he has the desire to coach in the future. I don’t think it will be in 2022 based on everything he has said.

So some reports out there are that we do like Mike McDaniel for HC. Not sure if he’s the #1 choice but it could end being him if Daboll goes to the Giants. I think it will be one of those two.

  47. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If we do hire Mike McDaniel as HC, expect the Shanahan/Kubiak offense that is based on the zone running game and play-action passing game. To me that fits Tua. Lots of under center, waggles and boots.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Not to mention he has been a run game coordinator prior to being OC. I would hope the OL finally gets fixed. Maybe he can get Laken Tomlinson to follow him.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He’s worked under Mike Shanahan, Gary Kubiak and now Kyle Shanahan. He was also the WRs coach under Dan Quinn in ATL for a couple of years. So he’s learned from some good coaches. He’s been a coach in the NFL for 14 years so maybe he is ready.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The entire offense will need to be revised and retooled but that had to happen anyway.

  48. Randy's avatar Randy says:

McDaniel was a WR coach for a chunk of his career. I say hell no to a WR guy as a HC! Lol
    ***
Seriously, the guy has bounced around from one position coach to another. He’s been a RB coach. A WR coach. An offensive assistant/coach. A running game coach/coordinator. Feels like Gase all over.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Gase built his credentials on Payton Manning

Which in retrospect is kind of silly

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Why compare someone to another person with a negative spin? Most coaches work their way up coaching different positions. So did Flores. He’s been involved with the running game for 4 years in SF before becoming the OC this season.

If you saw the video posted not long ago of him talking about the importance of WRs blocking in the run game you might like what he said. 🙂

  49. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

If McDaniels can fix our oline and run game, that’s great; and if not he looks like he can serve the hell out of a mocha frappuccino…so bonus I guess.

  50. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Piggy,
No, Gase’s “reputation” was made by media hype and fans. There were some of us who kept asking what the hell he’d actually done to deserve a shot at a HC position. I believe even Manning said something about not being a fan of his and that he actually taught Gase about the offense. Only fans who wanted the “offensive guru” that he was supposed to be kept saying he “made” Manning. Anybody who knew football knew that was BS.
    ***
Sound like anybody we might hire?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t know where you’re getting that from. The reason Gase became a HC candidate is because Peyton was a big fan of Gase. He lobbied to keep Gase as OC in 2015 in Denver when John Fox was fired and brought Gase with him to Chicago.

  51. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’m sorry. I’m just really negative on this team right now. Ignore me! I’m sure we’ll do our best to hire the next great HC. I’ll be following the team regardless, so I’m just whining! Lol

So odd how things work in this world. Just a little bit earlier I was thinking about that phrase, it just randomly popped in my head and I thought maybe was my dad speaking to me from the beyond just because that was one of his favorite phrases and I really hadn’t heard it since his passing and then I get on here just now and see this post. Spooky.

  54. D's avatar D says:

I’m really hoping we don’t hire scraggly beard out of SF. I don’t mind a new coach hire but I’d rather that coach have a little bit of a track record in coaching and not be as old as some of my socks.

  55. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

If we did hire McDaniel there is no doubt the running game will be a priority and that the entire offense will be revamped at every position. The OL will need to be mobile in the zone scheme, TEs and WRs have to block. I’m not sure a bell cow RB is necessary but if you find one that’s great. The 49ers seem to get it done with anyone at RB.

I like what the potential on offense could look like under McDaniel. Can he command the room and coach the entire team? Not sure. Can he bring in a good staff? Not sure. But the difference in him and Gase is he believes in the run game first. He knows that a running game and a good defense can win. His team as first year OC is in the NFC Championship game. It’s not always pretty but it wins in the big moment. But along the way, the 49ers make big plays on offense.

McDaniel has seen what a lot of good football looks like. I’ve warmed up to him reading more into his history. He’s not a 4-5 year coach genius guy. He started his journey to be a coach in 2005 as an intern under Mike Shanahan in Denver. He’s not green. He’s been doing this for 16+ years now and he’s coaching in the NFC Championship game.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I forgot to mention he’s coached in two Super Bowls adding to “has seen what a lot of good football looks like.”

I wish McDaniel had some direct play calling experience but if he is really going to be the hire I will not be disappointed. I love the offense SF runs and the commitment they make to the run game. I would love to see that for us. It doesn’t seem matter to who the RB is SF finds a way to run the ball

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think play calling is overrated. All the coaches involved know what the plays are and likely what will be called. Who knows McDaniel might hire an OC to do that as he has to coach the entire team as a HC. That’s all I want, a HC who knows it’s his job to coach the entire team and not be a specialist. His philosophy and vision is fine, just don’t focus on one side of the ball.

The lady that first spoke had a problem with what he did, but was ok with giving him another massage, if he promised to be professional

If it was just an average Joe, would any of these women have given it a second thought, without the scumbag lawyer bringing things together?

Pretty much the same reason as Steve said though i see the connection with Tua to be the lesser of the reasons. He has done a great job installing and creating a system to work with Josh Allen’s strengths and turn around what was a pretty slow start with him as a QB and really expedited the maturation process. Buffalo was always the mediocre offensive team with a bad ass defense and yunder Daboll they have been a pretty damn powerful offensive team. I mean hell they just duked it out with probably the NFL’s best offense and almost came out on top.

Big tall QB who can run and has the arm to make all the throws. Schoen already said Jones is the QB in 2022. Daboll was given a lot of credit for Allen’s development. It all adds up.

The Giants did a worse job then we did on offense with Jones and their offense. Injuries did play a major role in it but adding skills players when you can’t block is ass backwards.
