2022 Miami Dolphins Roster – What needs to be done

Chris Grier is clearly the Top Dog, The Big Man, Numero Uno Honcho, The Head Cheese. This is his ballgame, at least for this season. He’ll be responsible for our draft, and for choosing wisely in the 2022 Free Agency period before and after the draft. Whomever is hired as Head Coach will have the understanding that Chris Grier, at least for the moment is the man with the power and the final say on personnel decision making. He will accommodate his new Head Coach, but he will not be overrun by him. The Dolphins should be able to fill some huge holes in Free Agency, otherwise known as “Overpaying Contracts”. It doesn’t matter, we have to spend money, and we will. If we overpay, so be it, it’s expected. Besides having a few key positions of need, we have our own free agents that need to be taken care of. Let’s put it this way, we don’t need to save for the future, we need to get this team right now. Fix the biggest issue, which is the O-line and then work at giving Tua some upgraded weapons at RB and WR, not necessarily through Free Agency, but both Free Agency and the NFL Draft. Our first pick will likely be one of the last 3 picks in RD 1, and Grier needs to hit on that one. He no longer has an arsenal of multiple first, second and third round picks, and for a change we’re making our first selection at the end of the 1st round, but unfortunately not because we won a playoff game.

To address re-signing our own guys, the most obvious target is DE Emmanuel Ogbah. His market value is slated at $10M per year but I’m thinking more like $12-14M. Either way, he’s priority number one. Mike Gesicki will be a curious situation to keep an eye on. We know Gesicki is a talented receiving TE, and we also know Chris Grier selected him in RD 2, pick #42 in 2018. He’s had a nice career as a Miami Dolphins TE, not as good as I expected though. I still feel like he was underused here. I’d have thought he’d be the most dynamic receiving TE in a Dolphins uniform but that still belongs to former TE Randy McMichael. Randy Mac finished his first 4 seasons with 221 receptions, 2456 yards and 15 TD’s. Slightly behind is Gesicki with 199 receptions for 2255 yards and 13 TD’s. I truly thought Gesicki’s totals should have been higher. Twice in McMichael’s first 4 he was targeted over 100 times, Gesicki finally did that last season, but the caveat there is it was a 17 game season. Like I said, underused. My next guy is Nik Needham. I love this kid, and I hope we consider him an important part of our team. The 25 year old defensive back has played anywhere and everywhere and has played well. He’s averaged 50-60 tackles per season and has 6 INT’s in 3 seasons. He also has 23 passes defensed. He’s a team player and an unselfish one. The next player I want to re-sign but more for depth is LB Elandon Roberts. He’s a strong 2 down run stopper as we have seen for the last couple of years. TE Durham Smythe is another player we should re-sign, and I believe it’s possible Smythe is signed before Gesicki and possibly instead of Gesicki if Gesicki’s price is too steep. We MUST also re-sign ST’s ace and WR Mack Hollins. He’s a high priority re-sign as well.

OK, now on to the rest of the NFL’s potential castoffs. We need a huge upgrade or 2 on our O-line. We can address one or both in FA, and I can almost guarantee you that we will be spending a good amount on at least one of the top tier offensive linemen. To quickly reiterate, I’m not convinced we’re going to be looking for a tackle, although the argument for one can easily be made. My belief is still that Austin Jackson can be our LT and Liam Eichenberg can be our RT. That would indicate we’d be looking for interior OL, either 2 guards or a guard and a center. I think the latter is more likely. Brandon Scherff and Andrew Norwell are the top OG’s, but the guy I had mentioned weeks ago and still prefer is 49ers LG Laken Tomlinson. He plays every game every season and would solidify the left side and help young Austin Jackson at LT. I like Robert Hunt at RG so I’d prefer we look for an OC. The pickings are slim unless we’re looking for a C over 30. The Detroit Lions lost their star OC Frank Ragnow early on and turned to former NYG and former Dolphin C Evan Brown. Brown had a great season starting 12 games for the Lions. He’s a FA and just 25 years old. Ted Karras is another option. He played OG last season for the rival Patriots but as we all know, he played C for us here in 2020 and played well enough. Who knows if Karras would be willing to come back. If wellok at OT, Terron Armstead would be tops, both in talent and $$$. Cam Robinson from the Jaguars would be a younger and less expensive option. I hope we don’t look for an OT as I’ve mentioned.

Besides the O-line, we need to upgrade our WR corps. I don’t want top tier, address the best in the draft, but a nice 2nd tier WR is possible. We’re not a Davante Adams away from the SB so spend wisely here. Christian Kirk from the Cardinals is a nice talent. Others here have fallen for Byron Pringle of the Chiefs. I worry a bit about those 3rd, 4th and 5th option guys. Plays break down in KC and Mahomes is flushed and the defense naturally rolls to Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce so of course guy like Pringle will either be in single or coverage or even possibly uncovered. We kind of saw the same thing with Sammy Watkins when he was with the Chiefs. Now Kirk played mostly in the slot, but he’s young and talented. D.J. Chark is a guy who has feasted on the perimeter and is a big bodied, agile player. 6’4 200, coming off a fractured ankle injury which should affect his playing career. He’s a 4.34 40 guy with a tremendous 40″ vertical. I’d say Chark would be number one target at WR, he’s been productive in a less than ideal offensive situation in Jacksonville. There’s also JuJu Smith-Schuster who had tremendous early success in his career at Pittsburgh, but has since been pushed back into the shadows by receivers like Chase Claypool and Dionte Johnson. Could a change of scenery jump-start JuJu? JuJu is a tough, fight for the ball type of receiver with less than ideal speed but good athleticism and ability.th Chark and Juju are only 25.

I’m going to cover the 2022 NFL Draft and in particular our needs in a future article. For now I’m going to leave you with my Free Agency wants, since there is Free Agency before the draft, and then of course, after the draft where a whole host of players are released and then become available once teams shuffle their rosters post draft. We’re one of the top 5 in cap space available so if we choose not to take my advice and go out and spend top money, we have it at approximately $67.5M. Let’s hope our guy Chris Grier gets the first part of the equation right so we go into the draft with better flexibility to make this team better.

IMO and experience with Ian and Adam, they don’t do the discovery of new stories and rumors. Rather, they report on the facts. They generally won’t report on rumor mill material… that’s when they look like fools (see last week regarding Brady).

None of this offers any evidence of anything. You know that, right? I’m NOT trying to be a smartass, but the closest it comes is that McDaniel had once “said” he was bi-racial.

So do the 49ers get compensatory picks based strictly upon what somebody said?
      EVIDENCE, my guy… it’s lacking.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well he was relatively unknown until his name popped up as a candidate during the Head Coach search. We’ll eventually find out. I don’t care what race he is just that it has Rooney Rule implications.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Hey! IF the evidence comes out, well then alright. But until then, what’s to stop any other potential hire to claim s/he is bi-racial? And does it always have to be about BLACK?

Roger Goodell set himself up for this kind of scrutiny. There will now be mandatory DNA testing for all potential coaching hires!!! And we’ll find out that the Elizabeth Warren’s of the world (1/1,048th Indian) were LYING.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

      Seriously, good link, Tim!

But inquiring minds want to know what the compensation would be for an Eskimo who had voluntary gender reassignment, loves to play twiddly-winks after a daily 4:17 AM breakfast of flies on rice, drinks three and 1/3 raspberry milkshakes daily, cusses out his/her great-great-great-great grandmother at 2:42 PM daily for about 15 minutes at the graveyard, and then eats a 10-day old pot pie with orangey-yellow fungus on it… EVERY SINGLE DAY.

For sure, that individual should warrant a 1st round compensatory pick if promoted, right?!! This is the world of Roger Goodell! 😉

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That was kind of weird. LOL

It’s a 3rd round compensatory pick, the highest pick it can be. The Rooney Rule is in place for all the right reasons. Yes we all know some teams just do it because they have to when they already know who they really want. But what it does do is get minority candidates a chance to interview and impress. That’s what happened with the Steelers and Mike Tomlin. He wasn’t a favorite at the time but he blew them away.

When you mentioned Elizabeth Warren, just remember she’s a politician and a bit off the wall on a lot of things. She’s a strange bird. It’s not the same deal in the NFL with hiring practices.

  23. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

M13, do you think coaches and personnel executives are going to start lying about their racial heritage? It doesn’t mean they get hired, but if the do their former team gets rewarded. It doesn’t benefit the coach or personnel executives. The team interviewing them isn’t trying to give other teams extra picks. I think you went off track there.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Do I think Belicheat* deflated balls to give an unfair advantage to his team? Do I think Belicheat* secretly videotaped his opponents?

YES… the NFL is probably one of the most competitive environments on the planet. I don’t believe we can put anything past the competitive advantages these folks do to get an upper hand.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What’s the competitive advantage for hiring a minority candidate? The team hiring them just gets the person, nothing else.

  24. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

  25. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Gotta run

I’ll leave y’all with this: who among us (or ANYBODY in the NFL, for that matter) knew that Mike McDaniel was “bi-racial”? Answer: NOBODY.

I honestly don’t even CARE, one way or the other… I think y’all already know that, especially coming from me, right?!!

It’s just weird at this point being it’s unsubstantiated, and that it’s coming up at the last second before we hire our next HC. This is SO Miami Dolphins! LOL, SMH!!! 😀

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay you’re leaving. But what makes this so Miami Dolphins? They’re hiring him for his football knowledge not because of his race. It has nothing to do with the team hiring him. His previous team gets compensated if he’s considered a minority and we all know why now. The 49ers got compensated for Robert Saleh too.

  26. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am disquieted by this whole coaching search. I didn’t / don’t like any of the options. Including and perhaps especially Harbaough. I’m not sure if I am just jaded and worn out by this franchise or if all the options really were unimpressive.

I just feel like we are going to be here again in three years.

  27. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

LOL Tim, I didn’t summon the rebuild. If I had Grier would be gone.

I liked Flores (before rumors of him not communicating with his staff) But I just wanted him to get the right coaches in place.

  28. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The entire experience this time is akin to selecting the color of the casing on the colonoscope is.

  29. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

NFL owners pass resolution rewarding teams for developing minority coaches, execs

That’s stupid, it hurts the minority, not only does his new team lose picks, but surely it comes into consideration, when hiring him, if there’s 2 equal candidates teams surely aren’t taking the minority

  30. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

So from a football perspective, if we hire Mike McDaniel he can’t just be a running game guru. He needs to be a teacher and a communicator in all phases of the game. Maybe he’s more of a coach than what we see written about him. Maybe he really understands the game.

It’s kind of funny, we always think this guy is defense and that guy is offense. But in reality which either side of the ball you’re on, you need to know both sides of the ball because you compete against it. When you become a HC you need to be the leader of the entire team.

Can McDaniel do that? I really don’t know. Nobody does yet. Maybe he’s a great people person which is a big deal as a HC. Back in the day, not so much, but in the era we live in now it’s huge.

First time Head Coaches are unknown, but when you look at the history of first time Head Coaches, most of them have been successful over guys who have bounced around a few times. Experience as a HC is good, but it doesn’t equate to winning. Just look at this past weekend.

Who were the Head Coaches in the conference championship games? Andy Reid is the two time HC who’s had success, the other three were all first time as HC – Sean McVay (2nd Super Bowl appearance), Kyle Shanahan (one Super Bowl appearance) and Zac Taylor for the first time.

    Just some food for thought.

  31. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

So if we hire McDaniel and then 3 years later we fire him. Some team hires him. Do we get a 6th RD compensatory pick?

  32. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – I figured we’d get half the compensation since he’s half.

  33. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’m probably in the minority with this, but I think you should also get picks anytime you fire a majority.

  34. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Another way to look at the odds, if it’s a minus, put a 1 in the numerator, so -200 would be 1/2

If it’s a plus, put a 1 in the denominator, so +200 would be 2/1

It’s setup as a %, so remove the 2 rightmost zeroes

  35. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I know some of you are just joking around. But it’s about the team that developed a minority coach or personnel guy who was hired as a 1st time HC or GM. Once they move on from that there is no more compensatory picks.

  36. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Another reason for Harbaugh is the quality coordinators he said he’d bring in

We all bitched about Flores not having quality ones…

  37. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Let’s just hire Harbaugh already so we can start preparing for the playoffs in ’23

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I will say that this weekends games gave me a much higher opinion of the WR screen!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It all starts with blocking. Any system. You can’t run anything if you can’t block it.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Rams defense stopped the vaunted 49ers running game in a big game when they struggled against it in many recent games. Jimmy G didn’t elevate his game, it always comes down to the players executing. A good coach can guide you but the players have to perform. The 49ers didn’t step up in the big spot. The same can be said for the Chiefs and their loaded team.

  40. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim – This is the quote I’m talking about . . .

ESPN’s Jordan Schultz reports Mike McDaniel’s Dolphins’ interview spanned much of the day, with McDaniel stressing to Dolphins GM Chris Grier his plans on how to unlock QB Tua Tagovailoa (wants a quicker passing game), and believes he can win with Tua.
Schultz reports Several NFL executives have told him 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel is the best fit for the Dolphins’ HC job, with one saying he thought McDaniel would get the job. Miami, Schultz is told, is enamored with McDaniel’s innovative running game and how he’d maximize rising star Jaylen Waddle.

Only because people make it complicated. Its pretty straight forward and pointless if we just didn’t overcomplicate it. My picture on twitter is an xray of two hands shaking, one of my first observations working with X-Ray images is you can tell a lot just looking at the images, but the one thing you cant tell at all is race. When you talk about humans being humans, and us all being the same, its never more apparent in those images.

  48. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Whoever our HC is, hope he knows something about FAs, or at least knows what he wants

Hate to leave it up to Grier

With 33/34 players already on the roster likely to be on the team in 2022 plus about 7 draft picks, that leaves about 13 FAs, some of which will be guys like Ogbah, Hollins, Needham, Gesicki, Smythe, Riley, Johnson, Eguavoen.

We may only need 5 more, I’d say go after quality

Seems hard to believe we only go after 5 FAs from other teams, we have the money to upgrade

We could save 8.1m getting rid of Davis and Rowe, not that we need the money, but to upgrade, and Davis more than Rowe

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Our roster is at 45 now with all the futures contracts they have given. Most of the futures contracts are camp fodder though with some potential to make it to the PS.

I am right with you on about 5 FA’s from other teams. Hopefully 2 OL.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m ok with only 5, and keeping most of our FAs I mentioned, as long as the 5 are starters and/or big contributors

        2 OL
        1 WR
        1ILB
        1QB

But we have enough money to upgrade some other positions and probably will

I’d move on from Davis and a few others

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Looking at what our roster could be next year, with some new FAs, if we get the right coach, we should be pretty good

    good point by Alain Poupart;

McDaniel’s five years, in terms of rushing yards per attempt, the 49ers have finished 17th, 12th, 9th, 16th and 16th. In terms of rushing yards per game, which has more to do with number of carries, the 49ers have been 21st, 13th, 2nd (in 2019), 15th and 7th.

Do these number really scream, HAVE TO HIRE THIS GUY!?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

No, but it’s not about the numbers over a full season, and we don’t need to be a top 10 running team

49ers made it to the SB 2 years ago on the heels of the running game, they can run the ball at the most opportune time as we’ve seen Deebo and others do, and when they do they’re tough to beat

Garo Polo lived off of the running game, other times, when the run was shutdown he couldn’t get it done

Hello Mr. Elephant, I see you hiding behind that post.

I am going to address the elephant in the room, even though it is trying to hide.

Why haven’t we heard about Miami talking to Harbaugh? They guy had his second interview with the Vikings (this one in person ON NATIONAL SIGNING DAY!!) isn’t that enough evidence to show that he is serious about leaving Michigan? It should be enough for Ross to get around the stupid, hand cuffing statement he made at Flo’s firing press conference, that he “wouldn’t be the person who took Harbaugh away from Michigan”

I wonder what the issue is!?

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Maybe that Harbaugh is an unhinged dick

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

LOL, I don’t like his personality and think that if it’s true that Flores got fired because he doesn’t play well with others in the sand box, then Harbaugh would DEFINATLY not be a fit, but we all know of Ross’ love affair with him. It just seems very odd to let him go to the Vikings without a play at him.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Also according to Omar there has been “some communication between Dolphins and Harbaugh

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

What Ross said in the press conference, was just a CYA, he left it open to still bring him in

Seems McD may be the choice anyways, he checks all the boxes, except HC experience

  60. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

You Sir are an Elephant RIDER, I wasn’t talking to you! LOL

    But Hello anyway.

  61. New Age's avatar New Age says:

I think we’re a terrible fit for Harbaugh and just because Steve loves Jim, doesn’t mean Jim loves Steve back. The Vikings are a much better fit with a little worse talent. Let’s count the ways we don’t fit.

Grier- what if Harbaugh doesn’t want him as boss? He’d want full control and Grier might not fit with him. They have no connections.
Ross- has fired 3 HCs and none have lasted 4 years? Success doesn’t keep you. You have to communicate well to HC here? Does Harbaugh do this well or would he want that stipulation? I doubt it. Too many possible stipulations.
Connections- Harbaugh has no connections to this area or anyone on this team. What would bring him here? No taxes, salary, warm weather, bringing Miami back maybe? Are these really a massive selling point at this time in his life?

I don’t see it. Everyone thinks that just because there’s only 32 positions and because Ross loves Harbaugh that we have some kind of first dibs ability or ace in the hole. That’s just not true. This place fills no special need or desire in Harbaugh’s life other than maybe proving he could finally bring Miami back. That’s it. I don’t know if that’s more than Minnesota offers but I doubt it.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

      Just to play devils advocate;

Miami has the most cap space in the league
The Vikings are way over their cap and need to shed salary before the start of the league year.
Miami has a young ascending QB
The Vikings have to pay Kirk Cousins 45 MILLION this season (with a $45M cap hit) and he is a UFA next season
The Vikings have a GM too, they just hired him. Who’s to say HE wants to give up power to Jim?

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

Good points. Harbaugh knows and has worked with the Minny GM from what I’ve read, and he may not think Tua is ascending would be my only counters.

  62. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Senior Bowl is underway. I wonder who the Dolphins have attending?

  63. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

New Age – perplexed by your post. What specifically about our team besides the power structure (which is up to Ross anyway) is not a fit? I know we think Ross is old and feeble but if he interviews Harbaugh, he knows what he’s getting into. I don’t see a fit issue

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Ross is likely not long for the ownership of this team so what ever hard on he has for Harbaugh may not survive his transfer of ownership

  64. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Sounds like Harbaugh is trying to leverage Miami, Minnesota and Michigan against each other to maximize his payday. Not like he has ever done that before

  65. New Age's avatar New Age says:

    Mike E,

Power structure seems to be Harbaugh’s biggest concern, but Ross’s record with his HCs is terrible. I don’t see where we fit better than any of the other franchises for Harbaugh or why he’d take it outside of the benefits Rock mentioned. Ken seems to have the right of it but we’re not OPTION 1 and everyone else is looking in from the outside. I think we are the ones on the outside.

  66. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Maybe we can hire Harbaugh AND McDaniel and have dueling HCs. Then, just like in the movie deliverance, our team can have a good wholesome time with comradery and friendship to be had by all…

  76. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Giants are in a bad spot if they offered Daboll the job before interviewing Flores. It basically means the Flores interview was just to comply with the Rooney Rule when they already decided on Daboll. Lots of crazy stuff involved in this.

Well thank heavens the guy we’re about to hire is biracial… 🙄

  78. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Kong, if Ross was asking Flores to lose so they could draft Burrow and even offered him 100K for every loss, that goes against the integrity of the league. Another part of the story is that Ross invited Flores to his yacht to set up a meeting with Tua to work things out between them and once Flores realized what was going on he bailed. We then fired Flores.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

It’s one reason I think we’re a shitshow and why Harbaugh doesn’t want to come here. It’s all hearsay though unless he has proof. Either way, Flores is a vengeful, bitter bitch of a man. He’s a racist and I hope nothing but horrible results for the rest of his racist life.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Ah, those were the details I was asking about. I didnt see the 100k thing anywhImo. Hope he had proof…

Not sure about suing for racial discrimination though. The whole setting up a meeting with flores and tua to work things out and Flores bailing is enough grounds for firing imo.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I agree about the yacht thing, that was just weird. The 100K thing if true, the league will demand Ross to sell the team. The Giants and Broncos are the ones who are involved with violating the Rooney Rule.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Rooney rule just says you have to interview a minority, Giants did that

He can’t have it both ways, he wants them to interview minorities, then cries they only did because of Rooney rule

  79. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Well this is awesome! I was afraid we wouldn’t have any drama surrounding our team this offseason once we hire our coach.

Looks like we’re good to go!

  80. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

The lawsuit also accuses Ross of pressuring Flores to violate the NFL’s tampering rules to recruit a “prominent quarterback” after the 2019 season. Tom Brady was a “prominent quarterback” whose contract was set to void in March after the 2019 season, though the lawsuit doesn’t name him specifically.

  81. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

He’s just a product of society today, and what a POS

He’s done head coaching in the league, no one is going to hire him after this, except maybe Robert Crap as OD calls him

  82. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    The suit continues to say
“Flores’ lawsuit alleges that after his initial refusal, Ross set up a not-so-coincidental run-in with the aforementioned quarterback. From the suit:

After the end of the 2019 season, Mr. Ross began to pressure Mr. Flores to recruit a prominent quarterback in violation of League tampering rules. Mr. Flores repeatedly refused to comply with these improper directives. Undeterred, in the winter of 2020, Mr. Ross invited Mr. Flores onto a yacht for lunch. Shortly after he arrived, Mr. Ross told Mr. Flores that the prominent quarterback was “conveniently” arriving at the marina. Obviously, Mr. Ross had attempted to “set up” a purportedly impromptu meeting between Mr. Flores and the prominent quarterback. Mr. Flores refused the meeting and left the yacht immediately. After the incident, Mr. Flores was treated with disdain and held out as someone who was noncompliant and difficult to work with

From that point forward, Mr. Flores was ostracized and ultimately he was fired. He was subsequently defamed throughout the media and the League as he was labeled by the Dolphins brass as someone who was difficult to work with. This is reflective of an all too familiar “angry black man” stigma that is often casted upon Black men who are strong in their morals and convictions while white men are coined as passionate for those very same attributes.”

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Thanks for the info, Naples. So it was about Brady, not Tua.

Also, it sounds like maybe Brady was on board and makes me think we were probably the team Brady was talking about when he said “you guys are going to go with that m^therf^cker”.

  83. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

The suit is not alleging that Ross wanted to mend fences between Tua and Flores, as Tua had not even been drafted at that time.

    • New Age's avatar New Age says:

I don’t have problems with him airing Ross dirt, but I have real problems with his racist viewpoints while doing it. Given every opportunity but when he fails, it’s because the white man held him down! That’s his only flaw! The white man!

  92. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Maybe one of lawyers can answer this: can the giants say they had pretty much settled on Daboll from the start and still fulfilled the Rooney rule with their interviews or are there semantics that need to be upheld, i.e. they cant use terms like ‘already decided’ prior to the Rooney interview.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Best to uphold the semantics. The intent of the Rooney rule is to increase minority hiring. In theory it should be a meaningful interview

  93. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Here’s my thing. The Rooney rule says that teams are required to give interviews. It doesn’t say anything that the interviews are guarantees of consideration.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Right, but offering someone the job before you interviewed the minority candidate is not complying with the Rooney Rule. That’s the problem. He had no chance for the job at that point, the decision was already made therefore the Flores interview was not legitimate.

    • D's avatar D says:

Yeah, you can’t prove an interview guaranteed consideration anyways. I mean you get the interview and then you get the job of they liked you best. Do you ever get the details when they didn’t go with you? No. You just get told we went with another applicant.
