Sorry Dolphins fans, this Free Agency thing has left me deflated and disappointed. To be fair, Free Agency isn’t over yet, but up to this point, I haven’t seen anything that to make me feel optimistic about our chances for the playoffs this season. It’s not about grabbing big names, if you know me, I’m not that provincial, but I’m very uninspired with what I’ve seen from Chris Grier and Co. as so far. We re-signed a bunch of players, and I’m thrilled we got a contract done with DE Emmanuel Ogbah. He was an absolute necessity, a huge part of our defense and having him along with Jaelan Phillips should be an even more dangerous combo this season as Phillips learns and grows. After Ogbah though, I feel like we almost got complacent. Plus, Ogbah was here already, we just managed to retain him. So where are the upgrades we desperately needed?
We got some feel good re-signs like Elandon Roberts, Sam Eguavoen, Brennan Scarlett and Duke Riley, but if I sure wouldn’t have minded instead of re-signing every single LB that was on our roster that maybe subtract 2 or 3 or 4 of those guys and get Bobby Wagner. Wagner would be an immediate upgrade over any and every LB we re-signed. I want to elevate, not levitate. It’s not like we had the best defensive unit in the NFL and just had to keep it intact. Far from it. We were a decent defense, better than average, although right in the middle of points allowed. At the moment, Bobby Wagner is still available. He’s such a quality individual, he would have to be one of the captains, a guy teammates would look up to. He would make our defense better, and while #55 Baker had a fine season again last year, he’d be ever better with Wagner, everyone would.
Time for the meat and potatoes. Ah yes, the O-line. So far we have Connor Williams, who is a a talented yet flawed player, not too unlike 4/5 of our O-line before he got here. He’s further along than our current crop perhaps with the exception of RG Robert Hunt. He did have a propensity for flags last season and that needs to be fixed. He’s a very good run blocker and fits what we want to do here. I still feel like Austin Jackson and Liam Eichenberg will be our LT and RT respectively. Unless of course we sign Terron Armstead, but I don’t see that happening. I still feel like we need an upgrade on the interior, specifically C. It’s possible that upgrade come via the draft in Tyler Linderbaum, but would be willing to trade up to get him?
We had a bunch of re-signs for position players too, Preston Williams returns for a show me season. Former Dolphins (and 49ers) RB Raheem Mostert also returns. We gave former Cardinals RB Chase Edmonds a nice 2 year contract. He does however scream RUNNING BACK BY COMMITTEE, and that’s fine, but we seem to pine for an upgrade every single season but it never seems to come. Besides that, I feel the need to point out that we have been just atrocious in our record of free agent running back signings, beyond awful really. Jordan Howard, Matt Breida (He was a trade), and Malcolm Brown. The production of those 3 probably doesn’t add up to what Myles Gaskin gave us last season. Now to the WR’s. Cedrick Wilson. He could be a decent player but upgrade? I mean big upgrade? Wilson played primarily on the slot but can play outside as well. He had two 100 yard games, but take into account that Dak Prescott threw for 4449 yards last season, not impressive. He was #4 in targets last year, behind Cee Dee Lamb, Amari Cooper, and Michael Gallup. He finished the season with 602 yards and 6 TD’s on 45 receptions. Not bad, but like most of the signings except Ogbah and Gesicki, is not bad what our anemic offense needs? It’s true that this draft is chock full of WR talent, and one of them will undoubtedly be available at #29, but then you kiss Tyler Linderbaum goodbye. My point is, unless we fix either the WR situation in FA, or the O-line in FA, it’s going to be difficult to expect both of those to be addressed properly via the draft with our current draft position. Do we trade away future assets, or players in order to do that? It’s possible.
We definitely upgraded our backup QB situation signing QB Teddy Bridgewater. I always liked Bridgewater, he’s a gamer. He’ll be a good guy for Tua to lean on. I like the FB signing of Alec Ingold although he is coming off an ACL tear November 16, 2021. He’s a team captain and a guy that will be a spark in the offense. We also signed former 49ers WR Trent Sherfield who is mostly a ST’s player. Remember, we lost WR Mack Hollins to the Raiders. If you’re looking for positives, OG Connor Williams is a very strong run blocker. FB Alec Ingold is also a strong run blocker but again, we need to add more talent on the O-line and in the RB corps. Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed and Gerrid Doaks. Which one of these guys does the opposing defense worry about running the ball? I’d like one guy that the defense thinks about before the game “Man, I really hate tackling that due, he’s physical”. That guy isn’t on our roster.
If you subtract the re-signs, you have to be underwhelmed by what we’ve done. I like the Connor Williams signings and while I have a La’el Collins chiffon robe that has never been worn, I don’t think I’ll get that opportunity. He’s probably going to the Bengals to win. Speaking of winning, the Bills signed Von Miller to a monster 6 year contract. Think we need to fix the O-line? Let’s just play in fantasy land for a moment and say La’el Collins doesn’t feel the love ($$$) from the Bengals and we somehow snatch him up. My guess would be the O-line would be as such:
LT Austin Jackson
LG Connor Williams
C Michael Deiter (Or Tyler Linderbaum?)
RG Michael Hunt
RT La’el Collins
That wouldn’t be bad, especially if you sub Linderbaum for Deiter. Back to the defense for a second. Now that we have every single LB we had last season after re-signing THREE, how about getting Bobby Wagner?
LDE Emmanuel Ogbah
NT Raekwon Davis
RE Christian Wilkins
WLB Andrew Van Ginkel
LILB Bobby Wagner
RILB Jerome Baker
SOLB Jaelan Phillips
CB Xavien Howard
CB Byron Jones
S Jevon Holland
S Brandon Jones
Doesn’t that look, and feel good? Seriously, give Bobby a nice front loaded contract and if his play declines after a couple of years, it won’t hurt at that time. It’s NOT about making a splash, that would legitimately be a big upgrade on defense. He’s such a smart, instinctive player and a high character, high motor individual. I would really like that.
Now for the bad? news . . . The WR corps.
DeVante Parker, Jaylen Waddle, Cedrick Wilson, Lynn Bowden Jr., Allen Hurns, Preston Williams, Trent Sherfield, River Cracraft, Cody Core and DeVonte Dedmon. Isaiah Ford is a Free Agent. Can you ever really expect DeVante Parker to play healthy for a full season? NO! I love to watch Parker when he’s healthy, he’s a game changer. Maybe that happens 5 or 6 games a season. Will Allen Hurns survive cutdowns? Probably not. Preston Williams is a DeVante Parker in clone healthwise, he can’t stay healthy either. In other words, it’s Waddle, Wilson and who????? I feel like our 1st and 2nd RD picks have to be used on C/WR/RB. But that’s THREE! We only have 2. Say we traded one of our future 1st RD picks from 2023, where we have two. We pick up Tyler Linderbaum at 29, then trade up to the next spot and take Jameson Williams and then with our next pick we take either Kenneth Walker or Breece Hall. Now you’re talking, right?! Don’t bet on it. There’s still a chance to improve this team, Free Agent C’s J.C. Tretter and Bradley Bozeman are available. Bobby Wagner is also out there. Make us smile, make us better!
#stangerstrong
GO DOLPHINS!!!!

We let a really good gunner in Hollins go but we brought in 2 top gunners on ST’s in WR Sherfield and CB Crossen who has blazing speed.
Could we have done this because we are going to target the bionic leg Matt Araiza in the draft?
We would need gunners who can cover 70+ yard punts.
We currently don’t have a punter on the roster…..
It’s an interesting point, but it probably had more to do with wanting their guys vs. the ones we had.
That too.
Oh, page turn!
We will draft the A man in the draft.
Connor Williams is so much better than AJ at OG.
The “The People’s Convoy” is now in its 3rd week of trying snarl up traffic in Washington DC. LMAO at they get real upset when one “Hard Ass biker” does the same to them.
This isn’t new for cyclists, they think they own the road. Plus he’s actually helping them by making them go slower. Still hilarious though.
He’s barely pedaling. Knew exactly what he was doing.
Wonder what kind of yearly amount they’re thinking with Armstead?
Do they sit him against that aren’t very good, and only play him against the Bills, Cheats and a few other good teams?
Would make more sense than playing him against the bad teams, knowing he can’t play a full season
Then what do you do in the playoffs?
Ants in his pants? I get the feeling this fella’s going to make quite a few tacklers feel a bit foolish
Cool, who is it?
Waddle
Should be Waddle.
Never seen a penguin do that! 😉
He has some major quicks.
I feel the need. The need for speed. Speed kills.
Thought that would happen.
Wow. 3rd round pick. Just let him hand off to Taylor and hope the defense remains as good as last year. He won’t have to carry the team.
Duke Johnson signed with the Bills.
😭 I wanted him back.
Me too. Even worse going to a division rival.
Me three
Maybe the fact that we signed 27 other RB’S made Duke feel like there might be better options. 🤣
I think this is the most movement I have seen for QBs in one offseason ever
Everybody thinks they are one Matt Stafford away from a SB ring.
Musical chairs …………. when the music stops ………….
Wasn’t that a documentary about the Doors?
It’s been nuts, and it’s not over yet.
I assume the Falcons will be trading for Mayfield or Jimmy G. I’d have just stuck with Ryan, lol
Or maybe Mariota
I saw a report that the Falcons are pursuing Marcus Mariota.
Jameis Winston re-signed with the Saints.
“Armstead is the No. 4 player overall, and the best player currently available, on the PFF] list of the Top 100 free agents.”
Probably worked out well that Armstead didn’t come for a visit until after we signed Connor Williams. OTs care about the whole OL unit, but what matter most is who the LG is.
I wish we could sign a FA OT nearly as fast as these clubs are signing new QBs.
Maybe Terron wants to know how much input Lemuel actually has before he signs. Lol
LOL
LOL! Smart man!
Aha!!! Frank Smith was asst. OL coach with the Saints when they scouted and drafted Terron Armstead. So there is a relationship there.
Chris Adams @The Fins Tail Gate TFTG

For everybody that was talking about we need offensive line help don’t sleep on
@66up_next
make sure to check out his Instagram. He Really putting in that work!!! Can’t wait to see how the offensive line battle shakes out #FinsUp #PhinsUp
I hope McKinley’s putting in that work. Word last year was the opposite.
Are we talking about Kindley?
Lol Tim
Tim,
That’s who 66_upnext is referring to. I had to google it.
The QBs being moved are all established starters this is crazy
Yeah I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like this.
Ryan, Wentz, Wilson, Watson
Anyone else?
Ryan’s cap is too high, Wentz sucks, Wilson seemed to have a falling out, Watson wanted out and got his way same way he tried to with the massage therapists
And they ain’t done yet Garropolo and Mayfield are likely to be on the move too
Trump held a rally last sat nite at FLA Live Arena in Broward One of his comments was “They pulled this together in about three days and the place is packed.” I saw a billboard for it on I-95 over three weeks ago. That’s not what MSM is reporting…. what saw with my own eyes.
Was Armstead hurt last year when we played them?
Yes
Good for Marriota I always liked him and think he has some talent
????????????????
I’m sure they’ve already approached him about T and C
Wouldn’t mind seeing him play C or T
Find the best 5 wherever they lineup.
I’d call that versatility. Can he play FB too?
I don’t know who this is?
There it is
No clue who he is.
Scares me a little from @badyboyofscoops.
Marty’s brother😁
Except Marty would yield a lot of hits in a google search. All I see on Justin is his twitter account.
A Justin Cohen interchange about Armstead being signed.

So if he leaves today without a deal, your 0 for 2. How will you react?

Assume that means Dolphins showed enough in terms of team and cash to get leg up on the Colts.
LOL
Been thinking today, just sign an OT don’t even care which one
Just hope he plays, this year’s game similar to last year’s Tenn game or 2020 Bills week 17 blowouts
2 of my “Favorites” arguing!
Williams actually played LT in college and was fairly decent, if I remember correctly. I don’t think he played Center, and it’s not an easy switch. Centers have a lot on their plates. I don’t think I’d put him at tackle. He was moved to guard because he doesn’t really have the lateral movement skills to play tackle. But, as always, I’m sure they’ll throw him in at multiple positions in practice and see how he shakes out.
We saw this when came out last August, but here is what Armstead saw when he toured the training facility. Don’t have to wonder why almost all the new signs talk about.
Good stuff. Beautiful facility.
Wyo posted earlier about the Dolphins YouTube channel and the interviews with the new players. Go check it out. Raheem Mostert is a really cool guy who has had to work really hard to get to where he is. High character guy for sure. In fact all the players we’ve signed come off like that but Raheem is extremely polite. He says his rehab is going extremely well.
Ken
It’s not Mando who’s the doctor it’s the nfl coach he is quoting….lol
I don’t think an nfl coach would say a players knee doesn’t have a lot left. Not only do they know that’s something they can’t know. I’m pretty sure it violates league rules and the law.
That’s a crazy quote
Mando does really just make stuff up
The SS has an article titled: Duke Johnson leaves Miami Dolphins for Buffalo Bills. He was a UFA and we didn’t re-sign him but the negative is their mantra. He’s a Miami guy who loved being here. So he left Miami to go to Buffalo? LOL
Did anyone else see that Watson is only making $1 million in the first year of his contract? The FO in Cleveland are bigger morons than I thought.
I saw a piece on NFLN where they said the way the contract is setup it’s to protect his money from any civil suits. It was viewed as NFL hypocrisy and their phony views on sexual harassment etc.
I read something about that too, but I didn’t realize that it was only $1 million. Now we know why Watson changed his mind after taking them off his list.
His money isn’t going to be protected bc he’s not paid for another year.
In most state they can garnish wages and the judgment stats good for a decade or more
So if he there’s a civil court judgment in 2023, and he’s doesn’t actually have the money in hand in 2024, it’s almost irrelevant
But – these are the same people who were suggesting that 22 civil suits would be settled by the trade deadline
But if he is suspended this year, he would lose less money from that, correct?
https://sports.yahoo.com/marc-ross-deshaun-watson-trade-173108769.html
I was wrong about civil lawsuits, it was about suspension. His signing has a really ugly look to it and I hope the Browns crash and burn with Watson. The NFL is definitely a hypocritical organization.
Correct. This protects $229 million out of $230 million in case he is suspended this year.
I basically repeated down below everything you already said. I am posting while at work and didn’t read the whole thread, so I figured I’d lay out what I knew about it in one post. (Just acknowledging you were there first lol.)
Yeah – that makes more sense in terms of the suspension
Albeit I’m not sure the nfl can’t just take the total number of his contract and fine him. Why do they have to focus on year 1? They probably have a lot of latitude
I believe they can fine him, but there is surely a limit to it. Typically the lose game pay- this protects almost all of that. It’s really a slap in the face to everyone .
I would have to look up the rule to know but it’s a serious flaw in rule making if they let people contract around it’s application
If the NFL really cares about integrity and respect for women, Watson should be suspended for the 2022 season. It shows the player you can’t do shit like that and the team that signed him, you get penalized for trading for him too. But they won’t do that.
The contract is set up that way so Watson doesn’t lose money for the games he is suspended. He makes a 1 million base salary for 2022…divide by 17…he’s making about 59k per game. So if he’s suspended 6 games, he’s only out 350+k.
The NFL could still fine him all they want, but it has to be within whatever rules are laid down already.
And I believe even though his base salary is only 1 mil, he still counts as like 10 mil or so against the cap this year with the signing bonus…
Supposedly, one of the reasons Watson didn’t sign with the Panthers is they wouldn’t set up his contract the way he wanted it.
That makes sense
But if I’m the nfl and I’m punishing him, I’m looking at that contract and reduced fines as a factor to give him a higher fine
And I would explicitly say it in any decision to discourage that sort of contract in the future
Even the woman in the clip Tim posted calls it gross
And it is gross!
I really hope it goes down that way
Here is the NFL’s memo on its conduct policy
Click to access 0ap3000000828506.pdf
The nfl has pretty broad powers
If they suspend some one, it comes out of game checks. But if they suspend and fine them 2 million dollars, and they are paid 1 million dollars, they still owe the additional one million
This isn’t a fine like and in game helmet to helmet hit – it’s the personal conduct policy
But even the penalties have set numbers, but the fine can be arbitrary
https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1507734-the-many-inconsistencies-in-nfl-fines
for personal conduct the league can go as far as to banish some one
So the fine can be pretty severe and structuring his contract that way, doesn’t really seem to accomplish what they were going for IMO
That’s good to know. I hope they give him a bigger fine for trying to game the system.
That’s exactly what they should do and they should announce it
Wow the optics of some one planing there multi million dollar contract around punishment for Character violations….wow….you may as well just piss on those rules
Lol…so much for a conduct policy:
Expectatons and Standards of Conduct (bold and underlined):
It is not enough simply to avoid being convicted of a crime.
Dang, wasn’t supposed to post yet, but everyone might want to read the first page and first bullet.
It is a broad brush, but everyone involved has agreed to it. So there’s that.
Agreed Piggy! Fuck the Browns and Watson for gaming the NFL….lol.
It was complicit behavior, imo….
I was hoping to never hear his name again!
The NFL is like Sodom and Gomorrah. Yes we love the game, but can there be some morals? The NFL will exist without Deshaun Watson. I’m not a religious guy, but I do have basic morals and what I think a civilized society should live by. It’s not a good look for anyone.
You have know idea how much I’m rooting for a high character guy like Tua. I really hope he proves everyone wrong. Would love nothing more than to see him and coach McD holding the Lombardi Trophy together. 🙂
Know way🤪
No idea, no way…lol
So did we sign Armstead?
He’s still stuck on the slide. LOL
LOL
So why is the the NFL allowing this, or are they?
They say they stand for women’s rights and the farce that is BLM, but do they really care?
Hmmmm….ding, ding, ding
Let’s start with players’ rights and taking care of those that have entertained us….cough, cough…32 need to step up.
For health reasons alone, I don’t think the 32 plus 1 give a shit. Wish they did.
Branding?
BACK ON THE BOARD after an unexpected absence. It took three vets to get the diagnosis right but we finally found out that my beloved Greyhound, who we’ve had less than 2 years, has terminal osteosarcoma. This morning we got a small dose of good news. She likely still has about six months left before the end arrives. Last year we lost a small mixed breed dog to abdominal cancer, so this was even harder to take. All three vets told us that, for some unknown reason, carcinoma in dogs has been rising the last few years. Very frustrating.

Both Mrs. OD and your’s truly have a medical issue that must be addressed this summer. NEITHER is life threatening but these can be very trying. Hey, nobody told me life is easy.
SO GLAD Young Stanger is humming along like his old self, posting away good info. He remains a true inspiration. His return makes this season a major success!!
—————–
MIKE E; I SHARE your lack of enthusiasm for the off-season so far. And I’m STILL of the opinion
that they’ve got to “SHOW ME” that they’ve got an above-average offensive line. DON’T THINK ROSS and his boys can do that. They’ve tried for over a decade—and STILL come-up short year after year!!
—————-
I’ve done a little research and discovered something interesting. Since Miami joined the NFL in 1970, they’ve had THREE head coaches with prior NFL head coaching experience (Shula, Jimmy Johnson and Wannstedt). All 3 had winning records while HC at Miami. ALL THREE won playoff games while HC of Miami. Cumulatively, their record while at Miami was 335-192-2. Cumulatively they won 20 playoff games, including 5 AFC Championships and 2 Super Bowls in Miami.
Of the 9 head coaches to follow Wannstedt, NONE had ANY experience as an NFL Head Coach.
Cumulatively they won 126 games, lost 154 games, and went 0-2 in playoff games. Both losses were by lopsided scores.
——————
NOW I’m NOT trying to say we should ONLY hire head coaches in Miami who had prior head coaching experience in the NFL. But I AM SAYING is that Mike McDaniel is the 10th consecutive man named Head Coach of Miami with NO PRIOR NFL Head Coaching experience. And, if memory serves me right, the last 4 Miami head coaches (Philbin, Campbell, Gase and Flores) did NOT face any competition from available candidates who DID HAVE prior NFL head coaching experience. IS it because those with prior NFL HC experience DON’T WANT TO WORK FOR ROSS?? Is it because those with prior experience tend to ask for higher salaries than those with
no prior HC experience?? ONLY STEVE ROSS KNOWS FOR SURE!! But the bottom line is this: since Huizenga and Ross turned away from HC’s with prior NFL Head Coaching experience, Miami has NOT COME CLOSE to winning a single NFL playoff game.
——————–
I WISH McDaniel nothing but success.
BUT, to no one’s surprise, both Ross and McDaniel still have to “SHOW ME!!”
Sorry to hear about your pups. We all want “show me” as far as our football team. Wishing all the best. 🙂
OD — so sorry about your four-legged friend. So hard to lose them, and way more so when it happens early.
Right on OD….glad you and your better half are figuring it out. I love your strength…..
We agree about the OL for sure…lol
Good to see you OD was beginning to worry about you. Sorry to hear about your dog.
I thought for SURE we’d know by now if we were signing Terron Armstead. The waiting game continues…
My guess would be they are doing a thorough physical. He had knee surgery in January.
I hope that’s the case and I believe you’re right, Brian. Yes… we need to do our OWN medical on Armstead. We should probably know within the next 24 hours.
They’re trying to torture you never allowing any favorites of yours to become Dolphins. It’s science! LOL
I know you’re right about that, Bro! 😆
Mr. Campbell,
Very sorry to hear about your doggie, sir. As some of us realize, our pets are part of our family. I deeply appreciate your sorrow of such bad news. 😦
Sorry to hear about your dogs OD 🙏🏻
MY SINCEREST THANKS to ALL of you for your kind comments. I think of all of you as my “extended family.” YES, both me and Mrs. OD have overcome A LOT OF ADVERSITY in our lives. My honey has had 9 surgeries, 5 on her lower back. I, too, have overcome a lot. Not the least of which was loosing nearly all of my hearing and a big piece of my torso to skin cancer caused by handling too many patients with agent orange or napalm exposure. But, for SURE, I’d do it again if called upon. I have NO REGRETS!! I live in the greatest country in the world!!–Not bad for a kid who started off life in a Canadian orphanage, eh???
——————
BE SURE Y’ALL count your blessings when you go to bed tonight!! – – Not everyone is nearly as fortunate as we are!! Hope to talk to you folks again real soon. BUT, beginning this weekend, I spend 3 consecutive weekends on the road in Orlando, Baltimore and suburban Chattanooga. In between, I’ll spend a day at Moffitt Cancer Hospital in Tampa for my semi-annual checkup. BORING is a word that does NOT apply to my life!!!

NFC South QB draft position/history is hilarious:
Jameis Winston – 1st overall (2015)
Marcus Mariota – 2nd overall (2015)
Sam Darnold – 3rd overall (2018)
Tom Brady – 199th overall (2000)
OD – so sorry to hear about your doggy. I hope you enjoy the time you have with her to the fullest. Hope you and Mrs. OD have the best health as well.
OD
Bad news re the poor dog. Hope her final days are full of happiness.
Truth!
Hopefully the same doctors that thoroughly examined Drew Brees for us aren’t looking over Armstead.
The more I think about it, the angrier I get that we didn’t re-up Ted Karras after 2020. I mean, among the other dumb decisions we made regarding the offense last year.
The Coco’s
Island of Misfit toys at wide receiver
Addressing running back with minimal effort again
Brissett at backup
Constantly pulling Tua in key situations/downs
Not changing back to the old uniforms
They tried he wanted to go back to Cheatsville
It sure seemed like Flores didn’t trust Tua at all. Didn’t have a problem with Brissett as backup although I was shocked at how much better he made Tua look. Definitely were in trouble at WR and if they leave things as they are now we still probably will be. The CoCo’s were awful. I think we brought in a decent stable of RB’s, but none of them are true bellcow starters. They’re all RB by committee which McD favors. I still wouldn’t mind getting either Hall or Walker but I’d take the C Linderbaum first. The old uniforms completely agree with. They’re so much better than the pastel colored stuff we have now.
Give Tua time and he can win with Waddle, Gesicki, Wilson, Parker, Bowden, Williams, Ford, Hurns
He did better than most would’ve in the same situation last year
Give him some help and he won’t have to force the ball
One of London, Jameson, Burks added to Terron would give us a legit O
^^^^
except we can’t keep 8 WR, even if we call one a KR or a “Offensive Weapon” or anything else.
thank god … I did not want to risk jevon holland getting hurt tackling fournette two whole games per year.
Keep on keepin on OD … every additional day is a blessing, as you said.
The line needs to finish being addressed so Tua’s allowed to consistently get to his 3rd and 4th reads as needed, not to mention getting this running game upgraded. Often times, it was first read, then barely get to the second because that’s how the offense was designed for most of the games.
I noticed that the Bengals, in addition to getting some quality improvements in the OL (dammit), also resigned Michael Thomas, who will always have a place in my heart for intercepting Lil Tommy in the EZ to seal one of our many victories over the Evil Genius.
(SCOTUS nominee) Jackson graduated from a public high school in the Miami area (the same one that Jeff Bezos attended). If she is confirmed, she would become only the third public high school graduate on the new court, along with Alito and Kagan. “Every other member of the court is a graduate of a Catholic high school,” The Times’s Linda Greenhouse has written. All the justices — as well as Jackson, a Harvard graduate — attended private colleges. [NY Times]
UNC-Chapel Hill, UT-Austin and U Virginia are “public schools” as well and all say top-20. Plus private schools like the Ivies these days are all needs based, which means tuition is matched to income. So while might have made a big difference when the current high court went to school…. not any more.
LOL — guess from that we can assume Calvin doesn’t live in a MAGA house, cause if did last thing he would bring up is polls. 🙂
I don’t think Drake London is good enough at getting separation from defenders. It seems like most of his catches are contested or 50/50 balls. I’d rather see more guys on our team like Waddle and not like DVP, Williams, or Gesicki. Even if we were looking at London as a DVP replacement once his contract is up. Someone is very welcome to change my mind with new information.
I liked what I saw out of Burks, but I don’t think we’ll be in position to get him. Even before the injury I wasn’t sold on Jameson Williams, but I like him better than London.
I agree with you on London. Even wondering, is London fast enough for the specific WR we need (IMHO)? I would not draft him.
I also think Burks ran too slow at the combine; considering we signed Ced in FA, we don’t need another one of those types.
Jameson is that combo of precise route running and mad speed that is exactly what I think we need to take the double teams off Waddle. If we have two like that, because Waddle has those traits, then we give Tua what Cincy gave the Donkey.
That means opposing teams must have 2 outside CBs with downfield speed and must empty the box to scheme deep help.
Tua will eat that up underneath.
Yeah, I was more concerned about Williams staying healthy in the NFL with his build whenever BBM first turned me on to him. Coincidentally he was injured 2 weeks later. He’s definitely got a motor and route running skills. Him working out with Waddle in the offseason can only make him better.
Watching old Antonio Brown highlights and those striped throwbacks the Steelers wear have to be some of the ugliest uniforms I’ve ever seen.
haha they remind me of the cheap bumble bee outfit Belushi wore.
LOL, definitely!
What do you guys think of George Pickens? I don’t ever see his name mentioned.
I would love to get Pickens. He’ll be a better pro than he was in college. He got hurt early and missed a lot of the hype machine.
If we wait on WR till the 5th, how about
Velus Jones 4.31 screaming fast 40 @ 6’0 204, so not delicate. Played at Southern Cal and Tennessee, so that’s Big Time football, not some FCS guy who might wilt against better athletes.
He can block and run YAC, so seems to fit McDaniel’s type
… …
Just to throw a name at WR out there of the type I’d like to get although some of you have proposed similar guys like Skyyyy Moooore and Kahlili Skakir
Velus’s Strengths from NFL.com
He’s fearless with the ball in his hands after the catch and as a kick returner. He’s not a very fundamentally sound route-runner but might not need to be if teams view him as a catch-and-run specialist in the quick game underneath.
Can line up inside or outside.
Routes showed some improvement later in the season.
Play strength to fight through contact and work back to the ball.
Finishes the catch despite heavy hits by defender.
Run-after-catch talent is a factor.
Tears out of arm tackles and gives up body for every additional yard.
Special teams wizard.
Determined and talented as kick returner.
Can play gunner and averaged 15 yards per punt return in 2021.
Some mock drafts have us picking an EDGE rusher at #29. But where would he play? I’d hate to take Phillips or Ogbah off the field very often.
Karlaftis and Boye Mafe look like they’d be great to have (esp. Mafe), but Karlaftis has bust potential and Mafe might need a couple years to finish learning DE.
We need an upgrade at ILB right now or C or OT if we don’t sign Terron .
Unless we do something cute to get Linderbaum or Nakobe Dean falls to us, I’m thinking trade down to #34 or something to make sure we get Kenny Walker or Breece Hall for our RB1 of the future.
Do we have a credible update on the armstead deal?
That’s not supposed to be a reply
“McDaniel, he’s a genius. He’s literally a mastermind when it comes to the run-game, when it comes to the pass-game, whatever it is, he’s a genius. I remember talking to Mike before I actually got to San Fran. We were talking on the phone, and he just talked about how he went through my tape and everything like that. It just was crazy how he was just talking about how I can attack edges. Just the way he was talking about the game. Being able to sit in meetings in San Fran and just watch how he goes through the run install and all those different things. Just how he’s able to pick apart the game and put guys in position to make plays. That to me was a no-brainer. The whole staff, [Kyle] Shanahan, I give kudos to all those guys over there, but, Mike, like I said he’s a genius.”
— Trent Sherfield
Pig — only thing out there about Armstead other than he canceled a visit with Indy is silence.
I guess cal calling a visit is good news
Sheesh – why do the colts need a tackle anyway!?!?
So if we do trade down because Linderbaum is gone but we signed Armstead then …
Your Picks:
Round 2 Pick 4 (NYG): Breece Hall, RB, Iowa State (A-)
Round 2 Pick 18: Damone Clark, ILB/OLB, LSU (A-)
Round 3 Pick 3 (NYG): Channing Tindall, ILB/OLB, Georgia (B+)
Round 3 Pick 37 (COMP): George Pickens, WR, Georgia (A+)
Round 4 Pick 16: Matt Araiza, P, San Diego State (C)
Round 4 Pick 20: Cam Taylor-Britt, CB, Nebraska (A+)
Round 5 Pick 15: Alex Forsyth, C/OG, Oregon (A+)
Round 6 Pick 20: Emil Ekiyor Jr., OG, Alabama (A+)
Round 7 Pick 3: Quay Walker, ILB/OLB, Georgia (A+)
Man do I like all the picks. And Dieter was the 2nd best guy on the line last year.
yeah so I took 2 ILB guys, one a thumper (Clark) and 1 a speed cover guy (Tindall) since all we have at ILB is subs. Then I jumped on that punter early enough so no one else would get him. If the FO thinks they should go even higher for Araiza, I’m fine with that.
I took a corner in case either of our starters needs replacing. That guy is a real prospect but does need a little time to develop. I would not want to start a rookie CB in the playoffs.
Same with really well coached Big Time OL for depth in the 5th and 6th.
Finally that 7th rounder can play ST as well.
“Oh man, Chase is my guy. I’m not just saying this because he’s my guy, but Chase, he is a wide receiver-running back guy that can really run routes, really has great hands. He has a very, very high IQ of the game. Somebody who really takes his job serious day-in and day-out. Somebody that you can depend on and just somebody who really like I said, just loves the game. And like I said, he’s just very, very dependable. Very, very high IQ when it comes to learning plays and just scouting the defense and everything like that. He’s just not your typical running back. He’s not one-dimensional whatsoever. He can run routes out of the backfield really well, carries the ball really tough and I’ve noticed that. It’s amazing to be able to see him actually grow. We actually came in together in Arizona and just being able to see how far he’s come as far as route-running and doing all of those different things so. So Chase is, he’s a once-in-a-lifetime back in my opinion.”
— Trent Sherfield on Chase Edmonds, who he played with on Cardinals from 2018-20.
Two prospects I’m curious if Grier likes
Isiah Spiller, who’s a good run prospect prospect that might be able to do the kind of sharp back side cuts tHis Running game will thrive on
And Kenyon Green, OL who’s played 4 of 5 positions on the OL but projects best at OG
I think out of all the RB’s talked about, he’s my least favorite. Doesn’t seem to have that extra gear when I was watching him. Really liked Cook in the 3rd or 4th though if we don’t grab one of the other guys higher like Walker III or B. Hall.
He’s not fast – but he’s pretty aggressive hitting the hole
He reminds me of a bigger version of Gaskin
I think he’s a good fit but he doesn’t really excite me
I also like cook later
If you haven’t seen spiller before
IMO, Pickens would also be like having another Parker/P. Williams.
I’m ready to move on from P Williams and replace him with a higher ceiling player like Pickens. I don’t think P Williams makes any plays in a Super Bowl.
He looks like he’s got more shake and bake than either of those two and more speed than Williams.
Here is a “dashboard” of stats on the Phins from sportrac. The top 51 number is what really counts in the end but will have to be down to it by start of season. Seems with 69 under contract and the draft yet to come…. a bunch of guys under contract will be cut.
Not sure exactly how current cap versus final 51 effects current signings other than those issues can be worked out. It is if you still have them going into the final deadline when you have real troubles.
————————–
Total Cap Space — $4,167,874 (all players, 19th in league)
Top 51 Cap Space — $14,502,874 (18th in league)
Dead Money — $1,650,066 (2nd least)
Players signed — 69 (7th most)
Average age — 26.4 (17th highest)
2023 Top 51 Cap Space — $60,479,580 (19th)
Full except 2023 cap (hit that tab)
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/cap/
How fast things change. I just hit the link and we are now at:
Top 51 Cap Space – $12,647,874 (20th)
Also, if you click on the Dolphins, the players contracts below are not reflecting yet. So, our top 51 cap space is much less than what we are seeing now.
Sheldrick Redwine S – – – – – – – – – 0.00
Elandon Roberts OLB – – – – – – – – – 0.00
Trent Sherfield WR – – – – – – – – – 0.00
Connor Williams G – – – – – – – – – 0.00
Redwine probably will not affect the top 51. Though, the top 51 cut off is still only 895K.
Guarantee what I put out was there when looking, cause was cutting and pasting. Guess someone is updating on the weekend. The guys there and overthecap used to have regular day jobs. Not sure if that true anymore.
Those four not included is a bit troubling, but only a little. These things can always be worked out and we haven’t particularly been back loading contracts.
Velus Jones reminds me of a younger Antonio Brown.
I can see that. He really jumped on the radar at the combine.
I know, right? and he’s not frail like a lot of those KR/PR 4.3 guys. He’ll run right through an arm tackle. I’d love to steal that guy.
Yeah, 6′ 203 is not small framed for a WR.
““Fast, Absolutely blazing speed fast. Everyone’s gonna be running. Ah, shoot. The entire offense is gonna be running. I know that it’s gonna be a lot of conditioning work when we get going in training camp and OTAs and all that, but running backs that I’ve worked with, in the past, and especially these guys, they kind of set the tone for how an offense is going to run… The amount of speed those guys bring to the offense, that’s exciting just to be able to chase those guys downfield after those explosive plays that they’re obviously capable of making.”
— Alec Ingold on Raheem Mostert and Chase Edmonds
Seems the news on Armstead has disappeared. I guess no deal or maybe he’s visiting other teams.
(Piggy shrugs)
He canceled his other scheduled visit
So what’s going on then? Whether we do sign him or not, I’m just surprised that the news stopped about him.
Maybe he’s tired of traveling right now
LOL @ Mike
Maybe he’s hanging at South Beach seeing if that’s something he’d enjoy.
I don’t care if we sign armstead or not. If we do, great. If not, pfft. Plenty of other options out there.
I’m not locked in on signing him at all. He doesn’t have us over the coals, either he wants to be here or he doesn’t.
I’m glad it wasn’t us
It’s odd that we haven’t heard anything regarding Armstead
Here’s the thing about Terron Armstead. He’ll be 31 in July, not a big deal at that age for OL. His durability issues are definitely a concern. But when he plays he’s one of the best tackles in the league both in the run and pass game. He’s not going to sign for peanuts. That’s probably the issue. He wants top LT market money which is a lot.
Do we roll the dice?
IDK
he changes the entire O, and we can push money to the future, so for that reason I say yes
He’d be already signed, if Tua was right-handed
Can you pat 20+m for a non blindsided tackle?
Nothing else the past 20+ years has worked, give it a shot
We just signed him. LOL
On the way home from work I flipped on NFL radio and it was Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt as the hosts. They were discussing QB’s and a caller asked about Tua, and Brandt was really down on Tua. He said he doesn’t think he’s going to get any better, that he is what you’ve already seen from him. I find that so surprising. He also said he told the Dolphins to take Herbert in that draft, so maybe that plays into it, but it shocks me when someone can make that decision knowing what we had on offense, knowing how much worse Jacoby Brissett was in that same offense, and knowing Tua probably wasn’t nearly 100% in his rookie season coming off a hip injury and a season with no preseason or training camp due to COVID. Frankly, it shocks me that Brandt, who should know better can make that decisive an opinion on Tua like he did.
Something I learned today…..
6 members of SCOTUS graduated from a Catholic HS….lol.
I was raised Catholic through HS and that’s fucked….omg! Talk about guilt trips, martyrs, and shame, oh my, this country will be fucked for a long time…lmao.
I went to catholic school for 7 years, the quality of people far exceeded anything I saw in public school.
I think we’ll be aiight
We signed Terron Armstead.
https://www.nfl.com/news/top-free-agent-terron-armstead-signing-five-year-75m-deal-with-dolphins
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Dolphins have agreed to a five-year deal with former New Orleans Saints offensive tackle Terron Armstead after meeting with him early in the week. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero added the deal is for $75 million plus incentives.
Beat you to it. LOL
Got an IC Light for you
LOL
Boom 💥
Welcome to Miami 🐬💪🐧🐽
Crap, now there is nothing else to talk about until the draft 😟
Good
Maybe the plan is to move him to RT, that would justify the price
Miss read the contract 15m per is a great deal for us
Misread misspelled WTF
$15MM per year….hmmmm. Seems fair….
He “plays” out his career here and when he plays, he’s one the best on the field. Hope it works out for everyone.
I thought we neded a center….lol
Tackles first
LT Armstead
LG Williams
C?
RG Hunt
RT?
Agree. Hopefully, LE and AJ can step up, but not wowed. Guess we still need a good center.
Coaching is going play a big part on O….hope they’re up for it…lol.
We still have the draft. I think a Center will be added. The offense has been overhauled along with some young guys competing. It had to happen.
LT Armstead/Jackson 6 games
LG Williams
C Deiter
RT Hunt
RG Eichenberg
Probably unless Mt Kindley erupts and Hunt goes to RT
Let it play out don’t really care how it does, OL is no longer the weakest link on the team
Hunt should stay at G and LE at T
At least we didn’t stay static with last year’s offense in all phases except for TE and they were a solid group.
Seriously Clark? It was an overhaul needed before the end of last year! Lol…
Someone mention all the things good teams did this offseason and wondered why not us
Well many of those teams also lost players, good not us
