LB Channing Tindall – Georgia 6’2 -230 (RD3 pick#102)
With the Dolphins first pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Dolphins selected at #102 (3rd RD) LB Channing Tindall. Tindall was an explosive player for a fine Georgia defensive squad, but not a primary player. He was never a starter, albeit on a team loaded with talent and the best defense in college football. None of this matters now, Tindall will have to earn playing time here for the Dolphins defense, which is also stocked with talent, but his quickness and explosive speed could get him some snaps quickly. When you watch Tindall’s highlight reel, his suddenness really shows up, he closes on the ballcarriers so quickly and takes a very quick route to make the stop. Elandon Roberts is a thumper, but he’s limited as far as running sideline to sideline to make tackles, and really can’t cover a running back or TE. This is where Tindall may get some opportunities. Roberts is excellent plugging holes and shooting a gap into the backfield, but in space, his speed is a negative. Tindall can blitz, cover and make tackles sideline to sideline, much like his ILB mate #55, Jerome Baker. I can see these 2 forming a nice inside duo.
WR Erik Ezukanma – Texas Tech 6’2 209 (RD4 pick#125)
The Dolphins second pick in the 2022 NFL Draft was surprisingly a WR, Erik Ezukanma from Texas Tech. Ezukanma was one of the most productive WR’s in Texas Tech history finishing with some heady stats, 138 receptions for 2165 yards and 15 TD’s. He’s known for excellent ball skills, not so unlike the receiver he may be replacing, DeVante Parker. He doesn’t have the speed DeVante had as a rookie, running a mediocre 4.55 40, but he’s known for making very difficult catches in traffic. Unfortunately, DeVante’s worst ability was availability so we can only hope Ezucanma can flourish here and stay healthy. (Pronounced Eh-zoo-comma)
EDGE Cameron Goode – California 6’3 237 (RD7 pick#224)
With their 3rd pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, all the way in round 7, the Dolphins selected California OLB Cameron Goode. Goode is a little undersized for a 3-4 OLB so we’ll see if he can impress early on and somehow earn a roster spot. Goode was expected to go undrafted, but the Dolphins must have seen something in this kid they liked, so we’ll have to wait and see exactly what that is.
QB Skylar Thompson – Kansas State 6’2 219 (RD7 pick#247)
With the Dolphins final pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Dolphins selected QB Skylar Thompson of Kansas St. Thompson’s senior season was his best, he played in parts of 5 seasons. He had his best TD:INT ratio with 12 TD’s and 4 INT’s. With Teddy Bridgewater firmly entrenched as the backup QB, Thompson can only hope to land on the practice squad while showing some kind of hope for the future.
In addition to our 4 draftees, the Dolphins signed a number of UDFA’s as well. Here is a list, although I can’t say for sure this is the most up to date list.

Besides our 4 draftees, and the undrafted free agent signings, I’d be remiss not to include the biggest piece of our draft haul, none other than #10 WR Tyreek Hill. His talent should take this offense to new heights, and make our young 3rd year QB’s job a lot easier. This offense will be much better than the 2021 version and Tua will be a big part of the success here. I look forward to watching this happen and very much look forward to shutting up his detractors. Hill, Waddle, Gesicki and our group of scatbacks should make it very interesting. It will be hard for any of our draft picks to make a huge impact in 2022, and I guess that’s a good thing. The roster is certainly better, as we added lots of talent in free agency and trades, and now tried to improve our depth with the draft, although we re-signed a lot of guys that will be the depth, but at least with our first pick Channing Tindall and our 2nd pick Erik Ezukanma, they bring something am little different to the table than we currently have.

HAD TO DO IT! I think 49er’s fall off a bit and miss playoffs and giving us a pick around #15. I think we will do better in a tough AFC and have a later 1st in the 20’s.
Priority – we have to continue to build our OL. We are going in this season with a ? as who is going to play RT. We also need someone who could backup Armstead with his injury history. Next we need to find a stud cover CB. We don’t know how long X’s knees will hold up to where he can continue to play at his level. Third, we need another good edge defender on the bigger size like Ogbah who can defend the run and give us great pass rush. I also think we should continue to upgrade our LB’s with all these guys on one year deals. Lastly, I would like to upgrade our RB’s (Doaks and Ahmed) with a big back and a quick shifty guy.

Preston Williams, prior to any injury, had a really sick “get off” the line of scrimmage. Training camp his rookie year when we did a joint practice with an NFC team, Williams made a few of their starting CB’s look stupid at times.
So, not surprised at the quick footwork. He looks healthy, finally. Hope he surprises and becomes a very solid #4.
…and, when he scores a TD, he runs the other way when he sees Wilkins coming!

With the 102nd overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Channing Tindall have selected Georgia inside linebacker Channing Tindall.
I know everyone is concentrating on the upcoming NFL season, but the collage season is coming up also. I am just throwing some names out to keep an eye on this college season.
Watching highlights and tape on Skylar Thompson made me a fan of RB Deuce Vaughn. I don’t think he lasts to the 7th but with his very small size, it is hard to predict where he would go in the draft. Dude is dynamic! At 5’6 172 he could slide down that far but he is a weapon. Despite his size, he is built stocky. He would be my upgrade to Ahmed and possibly even Gaskin. He ran a 4.43 at the nationwide high school combine coming into college at only 6 pounds lighter.

Believe he’s the reason the passing yards for Skylar are low
I think he would do good at the next level. He has good vision, quickness and acceleration to go with speed. Good receiving RB (YAC) who even lined up wide at times. Reminds me a lot of those little RB’s the Pat’s used who gave us headaches.
He’s a little dude but was their feature RB with 235 rushes for 1,404 yards at 6 ypc with 18 rushing TD’s. Also had 49 rec for 468 yards with 4 TD’s. 284 touches for 1,872 all purpose yards with 1 fumble.
Only set back is he would probably not be a ST contributor on the defensive side. He did return kicks though.

Say you’re using a 3 man front with an Edge standing with the option of rush/drop, then Baker and Tindall’s speed at ILB who hawk the backfield, along with 5 DBs. Speed kills! 🙂

Allen is 4.76, so he may run over some, but he’s not flying past them
At some point in the next 3 yrs I expect Allen to stop running over and thru defenders
Van Ginkel is a 4.6ish guy as well. We have a lot of speed on defense in all phases.
We may see more Jones and Holland blitzes this yr against Allen, similar to how we Jonesed Lamar
They’re both great at it, 8 sacks between them. And we can do that when you have LBs who can drop and cover. That’s the Amoeba defense. We morph with the same personnel on the field, but you have no idea what we’re going to do.
As annoyed as I am with Brian Flores, I give him credit for bringing that style to the Dolphins defense. I love it! It’s what the Pats, Steelers and Ravens have been running for years. I think they’ve had success doing that. 😉

Because he wasn’t a full time player in that great Georgia defense. We took a chance on his talent, teams probably wanted to wait a little longer to take him

He played behind Dean and Quay on that stacked Georgia D, he got overlooked by everyone except Marvin Allen.
He was the next elite up at Georgia as they were loaded with talent. They set a record for the most prospects ever drafted with 15 and 5 in the 1st round (all defense). Sometimes guys drop. We talked about this the last few weeks. It’s a numbers game. Follow your board. That’s what we did. We traded no 2023 draft resources to move up. Grier and Co. did the Braveheart hold tactic and took BPA in their opinion.
I like the receiver too, I have him as fourth already, Williams has to prove it particularly staying available.
I don’t really see how Bowden gets on the field.
Ezukanma will definitely be in the mix. Hill, Waddle, Wilson Jr. and Williams have more experience, but he’ll make the team. Bowden might make it too because he can flex as WR/RB. When you think about WR, TE and RB, how many targets can there be?
The skill on offense could pan out like this:
QB – 3
HB – 3
FB – 1
WR – 6
TE – 4
Think about it this way, we watched us add RBs (HB) late in the season last year and they can just plug and play. Ezukanma also has experience running the ball. Depth is not always ideal but you might have to fight through it. That’s how Deebo became that new thing.
Especially since everyone plays the slot, so yeah Bowden won’t see much PT, if he makes it
He’ll be a depth option at both WR, RB and ST’s too. You can pick up RBs off the street if your top guys go down. For me it’s Edmonds/Mostert and Gaskin with some other guys chipping in on jet sweeps etc. McDaniel has a lot of experience with that.
The reason I chose 3 QBs is I think they like Thompson as a backup. He’s already 25 and has played a lot of football. Bridgewater is a vet who has started and played a lot of games at QB in the NFL, but is on a one year deal.
HONEST question for everyone here. Not trying to be an ‘Optimistic Opie’ any more than I’m trying to be a ‘Douglas Downer’… just trying to be an ‘Honest Eddie’.

Before anybody replies, I get the idea that if we have a much better Offense this year, we’ll have a much better Defense: understood, totally agreed, and we’d hopefully be able to control the clock. Yet as lopsided as this loss was, we’d likely come close to a tie this year with the Titans even if our Offense emerges, thus bolstering our Defense. And pretend that AJ Brown is still with them.
What do y’all think? Can we avoid an embarrassment like this again in ’22? I know I’m certainly hoping/thinking so, but have we done enough?
Most of our bad games have been because the offense wasn’t good enough to match it. Sometimes you have to win high scoring games.

I honestly think we are in a place now on the nfl where LBs aren’t valued like they used to be
He’s not really a pass rusher, although he can help that way
But he’s an ILB
I really think day 3 of the draft os normal for very good ILB
2 other guys we mentioned here a lot: Leo Chenal and a Brandon Smith were drafted after him
IMO all 3 of them have a shot to start for their respective teams early in their career
It takes a special talent these days for ILB to go in the first round
To me 2nd and 3rd round is the norm

I just went through the current roster on the official site and selected 43 players to make the team including some rookies in 2022.

I think the disconnect with Flores was already there. He did a great job on defense, I give him credit for that. But he had no continuity on offense. He did a really bad job there. 3/4 OC’s and OL coaches in his 3 seasons. How the fuck do you build and develop an offense doing that, especially with young players?

I’ll tell you Dolphins players were not top guys in 2021. Waddle was a starter and that’s it. Maybe Gesicki. The rest were depth. PFF ranked us the worst OL. It does add up.

Tindall looks great when he’s kept clean and able to run straight downhill. He’s a closer and tackles well when he gets there. He’s not so great at getting off blocks, covering anybody or making movement adjustments. He’s fast…but not so quick in changing directions. He’s a project. He’s got plenty to work on. 3rd round was a decent value pick for him.
The same situation with Zach Thomas. That was the scheme, the big boys up front keep your LBs clean.

Randy – If we liked the kid, getting him at the end of the 3rd RD, practically the 4th RD is a good move. I wouldn’t have had a problem with the team trading up, so in that regard, they showed a lot of restraint staying put at their picks, and not giving up any future assets.
To answer MF13’s question about the Tennessee game …
although there are several excellent answers above,
strictly looking at the BAD performance of our D.
Titans scored 4 TDs by 4 diff guys,
2 passes inside the 20 to TEs and
2 longish RB runs.
NONE by the King.
Tannehill often threw to TEs last year, especially when Brown was taken away, so 2 things I saw.
We (X) must’ve defensed Brown well,
but we must not’ve scouted those TE plays in the RZ very well.

oh excuse me, to answer your question, yes, I do think the addition of Tindall will help because him playing MLB will let Baker go defend those TE passes, which he is quite good at, and another fast LB will help run down RBs before they get into the DBackfield for 20-30 yds..

but if I don’t say anything, people might think that is accurate.
I don’t even own a beach chair, and I’m definitely not a “people watcher.”
That’s one of the most boring things I can think of, although I often go to art galleries.
I play tennis and golf at least twice a week each.
I also go to yoga classes, weightlifting at the gym, and hiking miles through the Everglades.
I only go to Fort Myers Beach for live music after dark,
and in fact my wife and I go out to eat and listen to bands 4 or 5 times a week at night.
If we don’t go out, we drink wine & watch Netflix or HBOMax or Amazon Prime movies.
I don’t drink much beer, as I prefer whiskey sours and margaritas or just 2 fingers neat.
I am a bit of a car nut though.

Just a few things from rewatching the Tennessee game
It was 17-3 with 10 minutes left to go, so it wasn’t a huge blowout. We were still in the game.
Tennessee killed us with play action, which is something that was a huge strength for Tannehill since his days with us. He only threw for 120yds.
Tua played terrible in that first half. Ball security was bad. Wouldn’t throw to his checkdowns and held the ball too long on multiple plays.
Playcalling didn’t help. Duke was 7-49 in that game. Gaskin was 5-23. It was tough going early, but we didn’t stick with the run like we had during our previous win streak, even after Duke started to break some nice runs.
I’m hoping the coaching and game planning will keep us from missing Parker next year. The catches he made in this game to bail out Tua were unreal. I’m hoping the 3rd was worth it to send him to New England. Someone needs to voodoo doll his hammies. lol
The jugs machine needs to become his best friend, but I like him. If we don’t resign Gesicki… who knows.
Naples, re: 8:01 post, that sounds more up my ally minus the tennis and art gallery. Though, I do enjoy going to festivals and checking out people’s individual artwork and crafts they are selling. They actually have a “Gallery Night” on Friday night once a month in downtown Pensacola. They close off the streets and there’s about 50+ booths set up to check out. They have live music on the street and sell beer and wine, but you can go into any bar or restaurant on that strip and get a mix drink to carry around on the street. Wife and I go before I have to go into work on Friday night. I have a 1 beer limit, lol.
yeah we go to one of those street music and art booth things once a month in Old Fort Myers, but I don’t have a drink limit.

Flores was the worst keeping games close, when they were borderline close, he didn’t seem to understand when to go for it on 4th down, so the Tenn game and Buffalo games looked worse, than they were
The Tenn game was a bad schedule for us, we had played the previous week at Saints on Monday, then traveled to Nashville, while Tenn played the previous week on Thursday
Sometimes you have to just throw out games, and not base what your team needs on a lopsided loss, just execute better
Tenn is also a physical team, so add all that up and you got the perfect storm

We had 71 players on the roster going into the draft. We drafted 4 and as long as we did actually sign all 13 UDFA’s mentioned, that puts our roster at 88 with 2 spots to fill. Our current cap space is $20,216,754 with our 4 drafts picks projected to not crack the top 51.
We could sign another player soon or we could wait until June 1 cuts right before the mandatory minicamp June 4-6.
seems unreal that our draftees won’t crack the 51 top salaries … another oddity of having no picks till 102.

Parker needed to go, because you couldn’t depend on him, he either played hurt or was out half the time and was mostly ineffective doing so, but when healthy he was pretty good

I discount the bad Tenn loss but not the terrible losses early in the season. This was the 3rd year for Flores and the results weren’t good enough until we played the terrible teams in the 2nd half. Jets twice, Giants, Panthers, Saints with Book, and Texans. We really should have never lost to the Falcons or Jaguars or get blown out by the Bills twice and Buccs. That’s where Flores deserved to be fired.
I agree with there was no excuse for early season losses and I like having very few draft picks to lesson the early season learning curve, we need to start out fast this year, there’s too many good teams to play catchup

I had never heard of him so I hadn’t read up. I just went and read some scouting reports and as you implied he has some issues allowing the ball to come to his body instead of attacking it and cleanly catching with his hands. The reports also said he is very raw in route running and doesn’t have the whole tree down.

Those comments were from “Film study” He hadn’t run at the combine or pro-day yet.
Besides you know there is a difference in 40 track speed (which all player are now training for to shave those points) and football speed with full pads on.
But I agree with your statement as well. He seems to contradict himself a couple of times in the strengths and weaknesses.
I will be very interested to see how our final roster and practice squad shake out. Guys like this Tanner Conner, while raw seem to be just the kind of player the coaches have been talking about. (WR who like to block) It will be interesting to see who they keep, who they try to stash and who get’s pushed out by “surprise” players to make the roster.
Conner as an UDFA coming into a crowded WR room is a great example.

I think the 2 I mentioned a while back who are considered power blockers. Kion Smith and another dude, I think Robert Jones.
But still may only land them on the PS.

I’m not saying I’m right about anything. I’m projecting what I see being done and what I hope is the case. When Flores was fired I wanted us to retain Boyer so not to change the defense. I like where we’re headed. McDaniel agreed. Why fix what isn’t broken.
Boyer knows as much about the scheme we run as Flores does, and Patrick Graham too. They all coached under Belichick.

We’ve been doing the Amoeba blitz scheme and running Cover 3 and Cover 0 since 2019. It wasn’t a change in scheme, it was better execution. The same on offense. The entire team played poorly early on and went 1-7. Then they went 8-1. It was a very young team and they got off to a slow start. Now we added more of a proven vet presence to a team that’s a year older. That’s the way it’s supposed to be done.

Thanks for the responses/replies to my question last night… great input by all. Here’s something I’ve thought about today: we were on a 7-game winning streak (yes, against some not-so-great teams, but…) and hot as hell when we went into Tennessee. We held Tannehill to a mere 120 yards (2 TDs and 0 INTs), yet the score still came out 34-3.
They also put up 200 yards rushing against us (198 to be exact) on 40 rushes (damn near 5.0 YPC) WITHOUT Henry (who was still on IR)… and we had all of our starting DF7 for that game.
So even when we could suppress an opposing team’s passing attack, they could still run us into the ground and control the clock (33:12)… they broke our backs via the ground, the way I see it. That, and we couldn’t sustain Offensive drives.
Our Offensive is essentially brand new with many upgrades and I think it’s going to be marvelous. I’d focus on our Defense to kill the run. We upgraded at LB with Channing Tindall, though he’s likely not to make an instant impact come game 1 of the regular season. I’d clog the running-lanes and keep our fast ILBs clean to attack the RB: time to sign Akiem Hicks as a 4-3 NG (DT).
Yes, Akiem Hicks is a former ‘man-crush’ of mine coming out of Regina (Canadian Football League) back in ’12. 6’4″, 335, former Pro-Bowler (’18), and has much experience playing DE as well. This would additionally help to keep our DL rotation fresh.
The offense was the weakest link. That and Sanders having an off year missing too many FGs. I’m not worried about the run defense at all.
Another weak link in last year’s D were the rushing yards and big play rushing yards if I remember correctly.

Aren’t we as Dolphins fans all in the same “we’ll see show me” mode? Nothing we say here is part of the decision making. To me this is the best roster on paper we’ve had in quite some time. I get first time HC and a new staff on offense. But so what? It’s not like we blew up a juggernaut offense and a playoff team.

We did change the scheme on defense. The coaches came out and said it and anyone watching film could see that it was different. You could tell that from game one.

I think we already have a pretty good defense. It’s top 10 at the very least, I think. You can win with that. I’d like to get a little better against big plays, against the run and holding leads. I have no idea what the stats say, but it feels like we struggle in those areas. Still, it’s a good defense.

The defense, I assume, is already installed. The coaching piece comes down to how it’s designed against a particular team and how it’s called during a game. Otherwise, HCs and DCs don’t do much day-to-day coaching. None of us know who did what last year, so it’s hard to say what Boyer did or didn’t do. I really don’t think we’ll see a big difference, but who knows?

Belichick had Boyer on his defensive staff from 2006-2018. Flores brought him to Miami as Secondary coach in 2019 and then DC in 20/21. But somehow Flores allowed Boyer to suck for 8 games in 21 before deciding to take over during the 8-1 run and saving the day?

I did a study on our early Defensive woes of last season… ya know, when everyone was shouting about our Offense, LOL.
We had lost KVN, Shaq Lawson, and Bobby McCain. It took their replacements some time to get up to speed. By mid-season, the training wheels were ready to come off. That’s when we began our rampage (winning 1 of the next 7 games). The 0-blitz came back to life and we once again became a very good national story.
For instance, it’s rather incredible that it took a mere half a season for Jevon Holland to put it together and make people forget that Bobby McCain had ever been a Dolphin. It took a mere half a season for Jaelan Phillips to put it together and make people forget that KVN or Lawson had even been Dolphins.
It just took time for our young bucks to get up to speed to hazard the 0-blitz Defense. That’s how I’d explain why our Defense sucked for the first half of the season, then came on like gang-busters for the 2nd half.
Oh, and we must not forget that Raekwon Davis missed time early on… he’s a game-changer in the middle of the D-Line.
Good points, I said as much. 2021 was year three of the rebuild. When you build through the draft with young players it takes some time. Now we added quite a few accomplished pros to the mix in year four. How else do you do it, ya know?

Ogbah, Wilkins, Davis, Sieler and Butler is a damn good DL rotation. Not counting the Edge, LBs and DBs who are a part of the attack defense.

I don’t think we’ve seen the best of Raekwon Davis. He’s not Aaron Donald but he’s a giant of a man who is athletic. I saw an interview with Asst. GM Marvin Allen and he said Davis is cool with taking on the dirty work to allow the other guys to finish the play. His job is to brutalize over center and right up the middle at 6-6 330.

Without Davis we were shit…agreed…when he got injured, it was, oh no moment, for me….forgot about that.

It was because Phillips and Holland were rooks not there yet, Brandon Jones made a jump at some point, and as a group they all started playing better. It was NOT a scheme change. The scheme is based on opponent week to week. But we’ve been known as an attack defense for the last 3 years. The difference is the personnel is getting better.

There were a lot of things that contributed to the 2nd half success, everything mentioned is accurate, but it wasn’t 1 or 2 things, as a group they started playing better, individual young guys got better, the schedule got easier too when things started coming together. The reason the Steelers and Ravens have been a constant for decades in the AFC is because they have a culture on defense. Yeah they have some off seasons but they always rebound. That’s what we’re building. The defense for Miami is still flying under the radar. It’s the core of the team. The offense has to complement it. STs too.
I agree on the culture… but excellent drafting FOR the culture is what has been outstanding for both franchises. We didn’t have that with Jeff Ireland, LOL.

Watching Tindall highlights and film study, he’s a bit raw, but who cares everyone going from college to the NFL is NFL raw. When he diagnoses a play correctly he’s bad ass, but can be tricked, and sometimes takes the wrong gap, he’s so explosive though that he often still makes the play, because he doesn’t give up and has amazing quickness and speed.
