A couple of weeks ago I broke down the AFC East, pre draft to get an idea how our Dolphins stacked up in what should be a very competitive AFC East division. I can tell you this, our rivals in this division caught up nicely by adding a significant amount of talent via the draft, especially the New York Jets. The Jets were loaded with draft capital, and parlayed that into a very nice draft haul. They came into the draft with two first round and two second round picks and then with a bold move traded back into round 1 to select their THIRD pick in the first round. The Bills had a decent draft adding a couple of prospects loved by some of our FMU brethren. The Patriots had an odd draft, to put it mildly. Our Dolphins were bereft of any high picks due to the trade for WR Tyreek Hill and the Dolphins chose not to trade by using any future draft capital, despite being armed well next year with two 1st round and two 2nd round picks. Our first selection this year was a very late, compensatory pick at #102.
NEW YORK JETS
As I alluded to, the Jets came into the draft with two picks in the top 10, #4 and #10. Their first pick reflects the necessity to be able to cover elite receivers as the AFC East has a few, with the Bills having Stefon Diggs and Gabriel Davis, the Dolphins having both Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, and the Patriots with DeVante Parker and Kendrick Bourne. The Jets took CB Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner at #4. Gardner, a brash, confident, lengthy CB out of Cincinnati didn’t allow a TD to a receiver last season. Well, welcome to the AFC East, where it will become commonplace. At #10, the Jets selected Ohio St. WR Garret Wilson. Two very strong picks so far and then a trade back into the first round at #26 netted the Jets the pass rusher they need in Florida St. DE Jermaine Johnson. The Jets first selection in RD 2 was another favorite here on FMU, RB Breece Hall. Four excellent picks should infuse this Jets with talent to compete. Robert Saleh must be pleased, as the Jets had already upgraded the O-line in free agency by adding OG Laken Tomlinson and a couple of TE’s in C.J. Uzomah and Tyler Conklin. If their 2nd year QB Zach Wilson can get on track with his new WR Garret Wilson, and the O-line can create holes for new RB Breece Hall, their offense will be better and the defense should improve as well with Sauce and Johnson. How quickly though will be the key.
BUFFALO BILLS
The Bills were not lost on the talent infusion at WR in the AFC East either, with the Dolphins adding Tyreek Hill and already having Jaylen Waddle, along with the Patriots getting DeVante Parker to the Jets drafting Garret Wilson. The Bills first pick was CB Kaiir Elam from Florida, another taller, fast CB. In RD 2, probably earlier than expected, the Bills took another FMU fave RB James Cook. That Bills offense just keeps adding pieces. In RD 6, the bills broke many hearts here as they snagged the best punter in the universe, Matt Araiza. The Bills were already a strong team and their draft should help them stay that way. As was pointed out here, does a team that scores over 28 PPG need the best punter?
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
I wouldn’t say Bill Belichick’s genius was ever considered to be present in his drafting ability, and this year’s draft was no exception. Their first pick at #29 in round 1 was Strange. Literally, the Patriots selected OG/C prospect Cole Strange of Tennessee-Chatanooga. To be fair, I liked Strange as a pick for our Dolphins, he’s a nimble footed, smart OL who can play any inside position on the line, although he has never actually played C and therefore has never snapped in gameplay. He was pretty much rated as a 3rd RD pick but Bill Belichick pulled the trigger and got his guy. In RD 2, possibly another pick in which he drafted a player expected to be taken later. The Patriots grabbed speedy WR Tyquan Thornton from Baylor, the tall lanky WR ran a blistering 4.28 40 at the combine. Nevertheless, he was expected to be a late 3rd round or 4th round pick. The Patriots added a CB who will likely be a ST’s player in the 4th RD.
MIAMI DOLPHINS
Our Dolphins, as previously mentioned didn’t have much draft capital left after the Tyreek Hill trade, but the Dolphins remained patient and stayed pat with they had. At pick #102, the Dolphins took Georgia LB Channing Tindall. Tindall is a very athletic LB who is a dept at blitzing which really fits this defensive style, and he has exceptional closing speed, which is really evident when you watch any reels available on the kid. He was a part time player on a very talented Georgia defense, with Nakobe Dean being the best known LB. With Elandon Roberts, a bit stockier fireplug of a LB in place, Tindall will most likely still be a part time player in ’22, but if he shows up quick, as Zach Thomas did back in ’96, perhaps he’ll be inside next to #55 Jerome Baker all season. The Dolphins second pick was Texas Tech WR Erik Ezukanma (Eh-zoo-comma). Ezukanma is a big WR similarly sized to DeVante Parker at 6’2 220, and displays some similar traits as an aggressive catcher of the football who will go up and get the football. Definitely nice value in RD 4. We used the first of remaining 7th RD picks on OLB/DE Cameron Goode from California. We need depth there but Goode will have a fight on his hands to make the 53. More than likely he’s a PS candidate at best. With our last pick, we took QB Skylar Thompson from Kansas St. The Dolphins currently have 4 QB’s, with Tua Tagovailoa, Teddy Bridgewater, Chris Streveler and now Skylar Thompson. With the injury histories of our top 2 QB’s, it’s not crazy to add some depth. Regardless, both QB’s will likely be on the PS.
So after the draft, my initial impression is the Jets easily improved the most after the draft. They were set up nicely to add lots of talent and GM Joe Douglas didn’t disappoint. We’ve seen teams improve quickly, think LA Rams with a young HC Sean McVay. Can HC Robert Saleh get this young squad to mesh together quickly as McVay did with the Rams? That remains to be seen, but on paper, the Jets improved the most. The Patriots seemed to tread water if you ask me, I don’t see this team making any great strides this season due to the talent infusion in ’22. They may even take a step back, although it’s hard to bet against Bill Belichick. The Bills added an important piece to the secondary if CB Kaiir Elam can show he’s NFL ready and a nice piece to their run game with RB James Cook. The Bills are already the class of the AFC east but they better have eyes in the back of their head. Our Dolphins did the heavy lifting in free agency and via the trade, adding LT Terron Armstead and WR Tyreek Hill. We also added slot WR Cedrick Wilson, added a couple of RB’s in Raheem Mostert and Chase Edmonds as well as a very good FB in Alec Ingold. Just as important, we basically brought back our entire defense intact by re-signing everyone whose contracts were up, a nice job by Grier and a promising sign that everyone wanted to come back. I think our division just got a lot more competitive, but the Bills are at the top until someone knocks them off. Hope it’s us!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

Doaks catches the ball well.
Did Flores just forget he had this guy on the PS?
Why did Doaks never get a chance?
Doaks dropped a few passes in the PS last year. He didn’t look like a guy known for catching the ball well. As for not getting any chances to run the football I’m not sure why. I thought he did show some potential in the PS.
If you look at the highlights reel posted above, he makes several nice catches on crummy throws. College one-handers count.
Yeah in college he did but he was disappointing in the PS games.

Reading some stuff about Ezukanma and what he brings to the team. Many point out that he’s good high pointing the ball and he is. But we have other receivers who can do that in Mike Gesicki and Preston Williams. Ezukanma brings more to the table than that. He’s a physical runner with solid speed to get YAC. I think we’re going to use him like the 49ers did with Deebo in the run game because he did some of that his last season in college – 10-138 2TD. He’s a rookie who I’m sure will do whatever the coaches ask him to do to get on the field. Deebo has said he doesn’t want to run the ball as much and wants out of SF for that and probably some other reasons.
In fact, he has the traits of a complete WR.
Dude gets open, now.
Yeah he’s got some skills. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has 20 catches and 20 rushes because there are a lot of other touches that will be before him. But he’ll get some opportunities along with playing STs. He’s a willing blocker and a physical player.
Chris Grier said our top picks will have to have a defined role. Channing Tindall and Erik Ezukanma check that off. Upside prospects who will play STs as they develop and contribute at their positions.
Remember once we made the Tyreek Hill trade, Grier said we had to really go back and focus on scouting the mid and bottom end of the draft? That’s what they did. Follow your board and you do find good players in the 3rd and 4th.
So much for Pearl Thomas’ comeback… SMH
I’ve honestly got to wonder if he’s got CTE.
Or he’s just an asshole.
He never used to act in such a douchebag manner though. Something happened to him to take him off the straight and narrow… this isn’t the same Earl Thomas everybody knew a decade ago. CTE? Drugs? $$$ problems? Who knows, but he’s a changed man and for the worse.
You’re right and I really don’t know why. But that’s fucked up behavior.
+10000000000000
2nd year TE Hunter Long might be a dark horse this year. Our new OL coach Matt Applebuam knows him from BC last year. Long was a reliable receiver and maybe he knows what kind of upside he has as a complete TE, like in the blocking game.
I meant two years ago with Applebaum and Long. Sometimes the football world comes together. McDaniel with some coaches and players from the 49ers, Frank Smith with FB Alec Ingold, Wes Welker with Ezukanma. People in this business know each other. Then when they’re on the same team they share intel about other coaches and players.
We all know Mike McDaniel was hired as a HC to fix the offense and because he’s more in tune with new generations and the modern game. The ironic thing is he comes from an old school vision. The Mike Shanahan run game is the core of his vision on offense. The son Kyle Shanahan and McDaniel have been developing this system in the modern era. But the basic fundamentals are the same going back to the 80’s WCO.
We’re going to see under center more than shotgun RPO, but we’ll see some of that too.
Light needs to come on for Long, there’s so many playmakers, that he needs to step it up or he’ll be swallowed on the bench
When he gets his opportunities he’s going to need to make the most of them
His talent level isn’t in question, his heart and dedication are
I mean they brought him in to possibly replace Gesicki, so he’s got big shoes to fill and needs to deliver
He shouldn’t have much attention drawn to him by the D, no reason he can’t make it happen
I don’t see Long as a replacement for Gesicki. More of a move the chains guy in any role. The options this team has at RB and WR for big plays due to speed is at a different level this year. I think Long could replace Shaheen with Gesicki and Smythe being 1 and 2.
Long was drafted for Gesicki insurance, in case he wasn’t resigned, not to be the same player or the guy, just a potential #1 TE
Can MM do more than tread water this year?
Are his O coaches seasoned enough to allow him to run the ship, without having to be a position coach?
When the heat in the kitchen starts to rise on D, who will be able to right the ship?
We can’t start badly (again).
I’m not sure the players have another miracle turn-around in them.
They might just shake their heads and say “Can’t deal with this shit every year.”
as far as HC goes,
maybe his rapport with **everyone** can carry him through the learning curve.
Because even when he was a third level position coach, guys liked to play for McDaniel because he schemes such that they look like studs, even when they aren’t, really.
Like Breida, who said he would like to come back to Miami now.
IMO most of the most underrated players on the Fins is Durham Smythe. Dood is simply a very good football player.
Dooowd
I think a lot of Smythe, he’s a huge value to the team, doesn’t have a big salary, does the dirty work and is that TE that goes out on routes uncovered a lot, so free completions, and break tackles to pick up 1st downs
He’s basically the under the radar guy, that feeds off of the talents of ithers
One of the*
Spot on Steve but it’s always keep Long or Shaheen before he gets a mention. Like you said does the grunt work and plays his role to perfection. Good player.
Don’t let the cat out of the bag, Smythe is a damn good all around TE
Still can’t get over Channing Tindall falling to us at 102, you may remember me saying we needed an ILB just to be a run stuffer, didn’t expect a 3 down LB late in 3rd, especially someone that can run like he can and is explosive
Then Ezukanma in the 4th, wow! We talked most of the offseason about getting a Deebo clone and he falls to us
Neither of these guys will be NFL ready game 1, but we just need them ready sometime in the first half
To get 2 guys like this in this draft, drafting so late…maybe the football gods are ready to smile on us again
Steve says
“To get 2 guys like this in this draft, drafting so late…maybe the football gods are ready to smile on us again”
Makes me shiver to think that the 20-year negative cosmic karma might finally be over, so it can be our turn again. At least so we get a fair chance.
It’s really all in Tua’s head, if he can figure things out, then we’ll all be happy
When blitzed find the hot read quick, should be Waddle or Hill and make em pay for blitzing
When they don’t blitz take what they give you and don’t force it
the good thing is,
Tua showed a cool head last year even though the OL was epically leaky and even after he got broken ribs to prove the point.
To me, him coming back from that all by itself should earn him so much respect that the a’holes should lay off.
That took real courage to go right back out there knowing the same guy responsible for a 300 pounder getting a free shot at him were still in charge of protecting his body.
All in his head, meaning the physical side is fine, he just needs to mature into reading a D and QBing in general
The Dolphins swept the Patriots last year.
Stupid Jason la Canfora or smart Jason la Canfora?
“10. The Patriots are in trouble
Mac Jones losing Josh McDaniels (and now having a mystery coordinator) and this franchise adding next to nothing a year after spending big won’t fare well. A front seven that fell apart down the stretch a year ago doesn’t look much better to me. The Dolphins and Jets won’t be easy to walk all over next season. A sophomore slump or two would be damning. I have my reservations.”
Did he not read my comment just above?
His insinuation is odd, like he just pulled his head out of Belicheat’s ass and was oblivious to Tua being 3-0 against them
To the under75s Bellycheat’s shit doesn’t stink. WE’ve been dealing with this crap for 20+years now.
Brady has lost more times to Miami than he has to any other team in the NFL.
The patsies have 12 losses to the Dolphins with Brady at QB.
The Dolphins have a winning record all time against the Patriots,
59-54, even after the Brady/Bellicheat years.
Happy Mothers Day, Herd.
People forget how bad a team they were before Brady and Bellycheat. It’s all over now, baby blue.
The evil genius remains. Wouldn’t mark the Pats off the be wary list yet.
Sorry Stanger when you reach in the draft like he did this year it’s over. Cole Strange and Thorton are not Mankins and Edelman.
His draft history has not been the greatest and done some real head scratcher moves. Strange will be solid. Thornton has big bust potential just like the last WR they drafted in the 1st round. Just because he is a 4.28 guy don’t mean shit.
Happy Mother’s Day Herd! 💓
Tyreek put out a vid of hiss B-Day party. He seems to be liking Miami life.
Anyone have to deal with neighbor’s dogs barking?
On one side I have 3 dogs, when the owners go out (last 2 weeks it’s been Friday nights) the dogs bark for hours, on the other side they have 4 dogs and they just bark whenever, he usually has the dogs out only when he’s home, but won’t try to stop them from barking
Have complained to the association twice for each house, they say they’ve taken care of it, but the dogs don’t stop barking.
Now dogs from one house barking now, causing the other dogs to bark, both houses the owners are home
Happy Mothers Day Herd and to the rest of the Moms out there.🐕
Ditto!

I’m honestly NOT trying to get into a political debate, rather I was wondering if anybody else has seen the movie “2000 Mules”. I viewed it last evening and found it to be most intriguing. I’m not trying to validate nor invalidate anything about the movie, but I think it’s something everybody with an open mind should watch.
What if we, yes… the Miami Dolphins are a top team in the playoff mix.
I foresee it, man! Well, maybe not a “top team” in the playoff mix, but yes… in the playoff mix. And after witnessing Cincy’s rise from obscurity last season, why not us, right?!!
Yes!!! Tua is the one that makes that happen. 🙂
I can totally see that.
If the injury bug stays away from us, SKY is the limit this year, IMO.
What if crap happens to the Browns, as crap often does, and when we play them, their QB is Brissett.
Better Brissett than Case Keenum 😉

Lines of demarcation? That’s all I’ve got, man.
I think the tip of the Aleutians is across the date line, so technically it’s tomorrow there 24 hours before, so it’s considered the first land of the east instead of the last land west.
I believe you’re correct (lines of demarcation/date line).
Damn close yes. 180th Meridian not date Line which “zigs and zags” to accommodate the Aleutian s ..
I always thought Date line was in the Atlantic

Elaborate?
I mean, that’s the first I’ve heard of as much. What brings you to that conclusion, sir? I’m interested!
Although Naples where I live now is on the west coast, it has the same longitude (approx. 80) as Charleston SC where I moved here from, even though Charleston is on the east coast.
Jesus lived where the Hebrew calendar was used. It’s 5782 in that system so 5782 minus 2022 is 3760, but their new year is a half year off ours.
Got ya, Brother. Thank you!
I mean Naples is due south of Charleston.
AND due south of both Charleston and Naples is Panama (the canal). Because South America sticks way out toward Africa.
Almost the entire continent of SA is east of Miami.

Then we discussed FL as an option, and I said HELL YEAH .. it’s become her mission now 🤷♂️😊…
You can afford it down here, but you have to look hard to find a good place. Pompano Beach? Homestead? Englewood?

Humans playing around with calendars is funny stuff. We can’t even agree on what year it is. LOL
Blues tie up the series, but lose another defenseman. Sheesh, I don’t see how we can keep this up and have a chance, we already have one emergency call up playing.
Well at least ya got to the dance off 🤷♂️🥴
Stupid Jets ran off 5 straight wins to end the season , unfortunately waited until they were eliminated to do so
That’s always frustrating when you get that burst of too little too late at the end.
I’m glad we got in, just a little bummed because I think when this Blues team is healthy, they’re about as good as any team playing and would have a decent shot of winning it all, but no chance with the injuries we’re dealing with.
Stranger things have happened.. best of luck
Cheers 🙂
Look at the playoffs in NHL and NBA, just about every series is 2-2 or 2-1, think that is a coincidence or does it give credibility to a video I posted a while back of an interview with the banned NBA ref, that was banned for betting on games?
He said the leagues want all series to go 7 games, and would give instructions before every playoff game of how they wanted it officiated
1 game they’ll allow the home team to play D with their hands, then that team goes on the road and the next game they call everything on them
In hockey same thing, they allow the trailing team to play more physical and not get called
In the end the best team may win, because game 7 they don’t give the advantage to a team unless the network wants them to, but not always
The Kings vs Lakers series, that everyone swears was fixed, because the calls the Lakers got at the end, this could’ve been one the network wanted the Lakers to win or my version is the Kings got every call to get back into the series (Lakers should’ve won in 5), then in the end gave the Lakers the advantage
If you just viewed the last game you’d have been like WTF was that, but throughout the series things evened out
I remember earlier in that horribly officiated game how the Kings were getting the calls, then when the Lakers started getting thought it was about time they got a call
Give me a break. You are one series homer. Not sure what series you were watching that the Lakers should have won in 5. The Kings dominated the Lakers that series and if not for an amazing 3 at the end of the game in LA by Horry on a ball Divac tipped out thinking the clock would expire the Kings would have gone up 3-1 and would have won that series in 5, not the other way around. They were clearly the better team and it wasn’t even close.
Even with that play by Horry, the way it played out, the Kings had that series in 6. The Lakers won exactly one game by outplaying the Kings- game 1.
The refs let the Lakers stay in that series. Then they gave them game 6, the Lakers got that big break with the misplayed ball by Divac in another game, and then the Kings flat out choked in game 7. Even with us missing like 60% of our free throws in game 7 (being one of the best FT shooting teams in the league), we still could have and should have won it at the end of that game, 3 of the games the Lakers won in that series were either handed to them by the Kings or the refs, and you think the Lakers would have won in 5, delusional, lol.
lol, one ‘serious’ homer…
What really gets me about that is the Kings have almost never been the better team than anyone, not just the Lakers. We were the best team in the league that year, it was a culmination of years of crafting the team and the year we finally put it all together- best record in the league, best team, better than the Lakers by a decent margin, for one flipping year, but you effing homer types can’t even let one of the doormats of the league have that one year even when they didn’t win the damn thing because of the refs and when every other sane person watching that series saw what went down.
Not ONCE has Donahue come out and said they helped the Kings in that series. In the videos you posted, he has explained in great length how the league wanted that series to go 7 and how they helped the Lakers.
Taking a couple of calls that may not have gone the Lakers way in the middle of a game and turning that into the refs caused you lose those games is BS. That shyte happens all the time and good teams overcome that. Shaq was so physical, there were always going to be iffy calls and no calls with him, that was his whole career. There is a big difference between a couple of bad calls and the refs straight up stealing a game.
Damn, I can’t believe how salty I still am about this after all these years. Effing, stinkin refs and homer Lakers fans, lol.
Listening to Yes “Close to the Edge”.

In Reason’s latest Phinsider podcast he talks about DK Metcalf saying he’s faster than Tyreek
He says DK runs a 4.66 40, but I looked it up and that was in high school, he ran 4.33 at the combine
Hill wants to race for 50k going to the charity of winner
They should also run 50m at the combine for skill positions, with the first 10m not counted, that way it shows top end speed
Smaller, quicker guys get off the line faster, but in football you usually don’t have a sprint right at the snap, so a guy that runs a 4.5 might actually be faster, or able to pull away from a 4.3 guy

Here’s a list of 188 3/2 homes in Miami.
just adjust the parameters for like if you want to be on the water or need a 4th BR, etc.
I also set the sales price for an arbitrary number.

Have heard plenty of rumors about Marino being broke, so thought I’d look up his net worth, he’s doing just fine these days
Dan Marino’s current net worth is reportedly $50 million.
It’s not 2022 QB net worth, but…
Hard to imagine him being broke. All he would have to do is sign some footballs or jerseys and he will be solvent
Kind of my thoughts too or be involved in F1 Miami Grand Prix
Is there a better way of getting people out to a Miami event?
More human remains found at Lake Mead, but no signs of foul play
Ok, yeah right, because it’s normal to throw people in there, when they die of natural causes
The water level has gone down so far, that things have been popping up, this was the 2nd body found this month
It’s pretty wild what’s going on there. Even with the reward they are offering for finding remains, I wouldn’t want to be hanging at the lake and come across a body.
Not sure how they can say no foul play, lol. I can’t imagine the guy they found in the barrel committed suicide, and I know I wouldn’t throw a loved one into a barrel and drop him or her in the lake.

Get Stanger in on the move to Florida. He will have you there next week

Toba — like someone else said…. it’s a huge state. In general South FLA is the most expensive (even if still a lot less than DC where I lived). North means more price, Ocean means more price, and City means more price. If you guys are serious take a week with a Fest and drive around to check out what fits for you.
Miami Grand Prix had some Dolphins twists. Marino handed out the winner’s trophy right in front of his statue. Tua waved the checkered flag, and WIlkins had a little fun as well.

“[Chase] Edmonds is a threat rushing and receiving, which means he could provide a Deebo Samuel-type presence in the backfield.”
– Sun Sentinel’s Omar Kelly
Uhmmm… he’s a RB Omar. Deebo was a WR playing RB a lot of the time. It’s not the same. LOL
I’m not trying to be snarky, but what is the difference between a WR who also runs the ball and a RB who also catches the ball? Asking for a coconut.
Because lots of RBs catch passes but it’s rare when WRs run the ball 50+ times. What Deebo did was unique, what Edmonds brings to the table is not rare.
WRs aren’t generally built to absord the contact an RB does between te tackles, when they do run it they generally run to outside and don’t try to break tackles like an RB
Think of a WR as a gazelle with speed and grace, while an RB is more like a bull
Cordarrelle is another example of a Deebo type, line up inside and run like an RB and line up out wide and run routes like a WR
I’m probably the only one on this planet who thinks Deebo Samuel is overrated. Sure, I respect what he was able to accomplish last year as a multi-scheme player, I like his story, and I think he’s a decent human.
But the fact is, he came out of nowhere last season and nobody was ready for what he was about to do. Now that teams finally have the better part of a full season of tape on him, he’s going to regress this season, IMO… just as our Wildcat lasted only one season with massive success.
Nobody wants to talk about his 4 fumbles last season, he didn’t lead the NFL in yards from scrimmage as many would falsely believe, and he’s never played a full season in the NFL.
Don’t want to sound like a Deebo hater (I’m not), but it’s crazy to me that everybody is suddenly looking for the next Deebo. Until he has another season as he had last season, he’s likely going to be a ‘1-hit wonder’: the odds are against him repeating his performance in that multi-scheme role.
In all honesty, I look for him to be a perennial 1,000+ yard receiver because he’s that good. I’d not shorten his career by giving him so many touches as a RB… but that’s just me and my $.02.
Deebo did have 1,405 yards receiving on 77 catches 18.2 YPCA. The crazy thing is he had 8 rush TDs on 59 rushes.
All rather remarkable, I might add. I just don’t find that kind of production to be sustainable from the WR position, nor would I recommend it for Deebo’s future.
His YAC was crazy good
Mostly agree, but what you’re missing is Deebo became known for running the ball on 3rd and long in clutch situations, and picked up the 1st down doing it mostly on his own, to win games in the playoffs
Think Derek Jeter of the NFL, modest stats, with his biggest accomplishments coming on the big stage at crunch time
Don’t think he’ll be the same next yr, because he doesn’t want that role, either pay me or FU
^
I’m not one to say pay the man, but when he Ricky Williams’ it, you gotta pay him
Over worked, shortening his career
Yessir, I hear ya, Steve!
M13, he played 15 games his rookie season and 16 last year. He missed 9 games in his 2nd season but one missed game each of the other two seasons is pretty good. Guys get banged up sometimes.
Perhaps I shouldn’t have said that Deebo the player is overrated, but rather his multi-scheme positional role is overrated. There’s NO need to replicate that gimmick role if one’s Offense is firing on all cylinders. If injuries take their toll? That’s something else to ask someone to play all those other roles.
I agree. Deebo the RB only happened because of the injury issues the Niners had. It was born out of necessity, but you don’t want your WR taking the punishment of a RB on a regular basis. If you have a decent RB, you don’t need to do that with your WRs, which isn’t to say you don’t still use WRs on the occasional jet sweeps and reverses, etc.
The threat of him I like is teams still have to respect him as a WR on the field and if he goes in motion and gets a pitch against a nickel defense he creates mismatches.
That dual threat gave teams fits the 2nd half of the season and playoffs. I think he’d have broken down before the end of the season if he’d started the year in that role though.
I wonder if it’d work to maybe have that role for Deebo in your back pocket and break it out in late December by design.
I think that’s his concern, if he wears down it could hurt him getting a big payday as a WR.
He was running the ball a bit his first two seasons just not like last year. The year before he only played in 7 games. But he had 14 rushes his rookie season.
Instead of having a Deebo, what if we have several?
Bowden, Ezukanma, Tyreek, Waddle all can lineup in the backfield
Throw different looks at them to mix it up, no need to pound one of them too often
Agreed. I think Hill and Waddle are going to move around a lot to create mismatches. Teams might not be able to stack the box much if we have them both split wide as well.
Mike McDaniel mentioned that the year they drafted Deebo they’re weren’t looking for the next Deebo. He developed into that role. They might have found a similar player in Ezukanma though.
Yes, but I see him as being drafted for YAC, throw the short slant and let him run, very high percentage play
Tua could hit that all day with him, won’t happen more than a couple times a game though, because he won’t be in that much and they’ll be spreading it around
Yeah I agree. I don’t think any of our WRs will have more than 10 rushes. But all of them total might end up in the 30’s. McDaniel said he wants a quick passing game so the slants make a lot of sense. I see the backs catching quite a few passes as well as part of the ball control game.
It’ll be interesting to see how Deebo is used this year.
For us, I think the idea of platooning the ‘offensive weapon’ position makes a lot of sense. We have a number of guys that have that skillset, use it and spread the workload around.
Yeah McDaniel said he wants to get the ball in the hands of his playmakers and we have quite a few to do it in different ways. I’m looking forward to this new offense.
It’s Pacific Islander Month.
Go Tua.
Go Dolphins.
Morons on GMFB say we’ve done a lot to close the gap with bills, but is it 19.3 pts closer
Someone taking a stat and fitting it to their narrative
Flores played to win, when we fell behind he was very aggressive on 4th down, that lead to a lot of the large deficit
The Bills defense attacked us aggressively and we couldn’t stop it. It’s more about that to me than their offense. They’re going to score points but our offense has to do more against them. If we can get the dogs off of us and sustain some drives with points, the games will be more competitive. You can’t give a team like that good field position over and over without scoring.
They were very aggressive against a 1 dimensional O, add a running game and it will bring things back down to earth
Yeah they attacked the RPO and didn’t fear anyone beating them.
I find it to be a strange signing. Not sure he brings any more physicality to the backfield but he’s probably a guy that can play every week and won’t miss time.
Someone is out between Doaks, Ahmed and maybe even Gaskin
What happened to all in?
It’s a good depth signing, think we now have 3 backs, that can carry the load, if need be, when all healthy they rotate looking for hot hand
It feels like he faded fast in the nfl
But a guy like this might be able to give you a few weeks of energy if they need to step in bc of injuries
Kind like what we got out of Duke Johnson last year
Your post has no content for me. Who are we talking about?
The Dolphins signed Sony Michel
Michel seemed to always kick our butt, was glad he was traded
2020 10-37 10-74
2019 21-83 18-74
2018 25-112 20-57
Oh okay we signed Michel. He’s a Jekyll and Hyde back to me. He can look really good and then disappear like he’s a nobody. I’m interested to see what his role is.
Steve – I don’t get your response. I look at the guys we have currently in our backfield and i don’t see Michel as the missing piece.
He’s not a missing piece but a vet competition. Do we know what he’s signing for?
Nope
Who said anything about a missing piece?
The signing of Sony Michel might be a sign that we’re going to run the ball a lot. We want to make sure we have enough backs to do it. Michel is also coming from the Rams and that offense under McVay has roots with what McDaniel runs via Shanahan. If a young back breaks out great. This looks like a signing just in case that doesn’t happen.
1 year! Haven’t seen the money yet?
BEEN WATCHING THE NHL PLAYOFFS when time permits. Currently, the biggest shock is the fact that the Florida Panthers trail a beat-up Washington team 2 games to 1 and are tied tonight going into the 3rd period. I expected the Panthers to win this series in 5 games. But their Eastern Conference leading offense has gone to sleep for almost 4 full games!!
————————
Speaking of sleep, I expect Colorado to put Nashville on a 4-month vacation and eliminate the Preds in 4 straight. NO surprise there!
———————–
FINALLY, game 5 of the Lightning-Maple Leafs series heads back to Toronto tomorrow night tied at 2 wins for each side. ODDITY: there has NOT been ONE lead change THE ENTIRE SERIES after four full games!! – – One team or the other has jumped out to a big lead and won going away each time. Perhaps Game 5 will see a lead change and at least ONE overtime sudden-death period, if not more. I thought this series was dead even at the beginning, and I STILL BELIEVE it is.
However, there is ONE major factor that has escaped the attention of many observers. NAMELY, the fact that the Maple Leafs have not won ONE SINGLE PLAYOFF SERIES SINCE 1967 – – A 55 year dry spell that EXCEEDS BY FAR Miami’s “dry spell” under Steve Ross. Last season, the Leafs were prohibitive favorites to take out their arch-rivals, the Montreal Canadiens (someone tell my spell checker that “iens” IS THE CORRECT SPELLING of the Habs’ nickname!).
HOWEVER, once again, the Leafs fell flat on their faces AT HOME in the decisive contest in Toronto!! So-o-o, bet your ASS Toronto does NOT want this series to go to a decisive 7th game at home, where they have FAILED so many times over the last 55 years. Meanwhile, the last 16 times
the Lightning have LOST a playoff game, they have come back and WON THE NEXT PLAYOFF GAME – – due mostly to their star players ability to “rise to the occasion.”
WILL BOTH HISTORICAL TRENDS CONTINUE?? – – We’ll know the answer in a few days!!
BOOOO!
Well we had Michel in for a visit and not Hyde. 27 years old vs. 32.
HAVE A GREAT EVENING, Mr. Spikes!!
And a better tomorrow!
The Old Dolfan is O-O-O-T, er, I mean, OUT!
You too, my guy, Mr. Campbell!
#Respect
Sorry, but I don’t like the Sony Michel signing. I hope it works out, regardless of my opinion.
Why are you apologizing? LOL
It’s very doubtful he’s the key to our season. He could still get cut. Nobody signing now is a lock unless it’s big money.
We now have 7 RBs to compete and I think it will probably be 4 on the final roster. All I care about are the best guys to help us win. However that group pans out just win baby! 🙂
Barry shouldn’t presume anything on a free agent running back singing signed in may
The Panthers get an empty net goal with 2 minutes left in the 3rd period to tie it up, then win in overtime to tie up the series instead of going down 1-3.
When the Capital lose this series, they can look back at that goal as the moment they lost their chance for one of the biggest upsets in years.
NO QUESTION, KONG!! The Panthers looked deader than dead!!
NOW they are back in the hunt with a gift from the gods of hockey!!
REALLY OUT NOW!!
NO DOUBT some Leafs’ fan is asking
WHY CAN’T WE GET A GIFT FROM THE HOCKEY GODS?
The Pens are overwhelming the young Rangers team.
Strange use of the term empty net, but yeah they were dead in the water
LOL, yeah my bad, they scored while playing with an empty net, didn’t score an empty net goal.
How does a team score an empty net goal when trailing?
With a poorly worded description, that’s how, lol
LOL okay.
Before the postseason one of the experts said the Panthers style doesn’t relate to playoffs
For 238 minutes he was correct
The Sony Michel signing might also be about a guy who has been on winning teams. He was just on the Rams who won it all and he was on the Pats when they won too. Help create a culture of what winning looks like. I don’t think we should make too much out of this as if he’s our lead back now.
I think it’s just filling out the roster, like you said above, compete in camp and the best guys stick. We know the top 2 RBs are set; it’s wide open behind them.
Lol, it’s football not dandelion picking
Mike,
ICYMI – a new Bosch series just dropped 4 episodes, picks up where the Bosch series ended.
No kitten? Is it on Amazon? What’s it called?
SF has had 4 quality backs every year it seems, think MM also feels you need 4
Won’t be surprised if Gaskin sticks for another year. He plays his ass off despite limited physical ability. He has some game to him.
This is what Sony Michel can do at his best. This offense is about chunk yards and YAC. The players that show it the best make the team.
Does Alec Ingold make an impact as a Fullback? Does he do the dirty work that a guy like TE Durham Smythe does? Block and help move the chains. There is no way we’re not going to run the football under Mike McDaniel. It may not be great, but it will be a staple of the offense. Last year we were 30th in rushing. I expect us to be at least top 15 this year if not much higher.
Steve – I was thinking if there was one element we were missing from our stable of RB’s it was a bruiser type back, a back that will punish an opposing D, wear them down. I get that we improved the depth, I’m just surprised they went with Michel. He probably pushed guys like Gaskin and Ahmed further down the chart or off it. Maybe it gives ZaQuandre White an even better chance to make the team, who knows?
Who was that bruiser back in SF?
Carlos Hyde? He played 1 yr under Shanahan, then was gone
Don’t think our O uses a bruiser back, FB maybe, but not an RB spot
Bruiser backs Don’t typically have a spot, when the team uses an FB
Who was our bruiser back in 72? Csonka, our FB
We Could have had Duke
Was thinking that yesterday, maybe a salary issue, not that we couldn’t afford him, sometimes you just have to let guys test the water
Duke’s contract
Contract Value: $1,272,500 ($1,272,500 APY)
For Jahn . . .
In 2003, NASA features for its “photo of the day” what became known as “The Eye of God” and an instant Internet classic. It is the Helix Nebula, which is the closest known example of a planetary nebula created at the end of the life of a Sun-like star. It lies about 655 light-years away.
I know I’m not Jahn… But damn that is amazing.
Mike, yeah it’s on Amazon, called Bosch Legacy.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33891178/tom-brady-join-fox-sports-lead-nfl-analyst-playing-career-ends
Guess he is not joining our organization after all
Let’s see if it’s enough of a commitment to shut these assholes up
Only starts when he is done with football, not with the Bucs. So there is still hope. 🙂
Texans, Bears over 50m in dead money
Falcons over 60m
Who the F is running those teams?
Our 8.5m is 9th lowest
With the addition of Sony Michel, it does not look good for Ahmed or Doaks. Also, with us using a FB, it does not look good for Cethan Carter and possibly Shaheen. I could see us only keeping 3 TE’s. Then 4 RB, 1 FB, 6 WR, 2 QB and 8-9 OL.
Sounds reasonable
Can’t see how Cethan makes it, Shaheen who knows, but if you let him walk it would be a good idea, if you had plans for Gesicki past this year
I agree though FB doesn’t equal 4 TEs
