Training Camp begins in 3 weeks – Dolphins prepare for winning season

This is different. Going into this 2022 NFL season and heading into training camp which finally has the players in pads, has a much different feel than in previous years. If we’re being honest with ourselves, the expectations are higher, as they should be. Chris Grier has upgraded the roster, especially on the offensive side, which was desperately needed. The offense was the weaker unit, and besides upgrading the offense, Grier managed to keep a pretty good defense intact. We also added a couple of pieces both in the draft and also in free agency this season that may pay dividends. Our first draft pick, in RD 3 was athletic ILB Channing Tindall. We already have veteran ILB Elandon Roberts who’s made plays for this defense and provides excellent run support. Where Tindall can be a difference maker is on passing downs in coverage and also as a blitzer. He can also be a sideline to sideline tackler, much like the guy right next to him at ILB, #55 Jerome Baker. We also added a nice veteran piece in OLB/DE Melvin Ingram. Ingram at 33 is well past his prime, and hasn’t played a full season since 2018, but he will be used sparingly which will make him more effective when he’s in there.

One of the biggest challenges this team faces is having a new Head Coach, Mike McDaniel implementing an entirely new system on offense, and getting it up to speed quickly. One thing McDaniel did well was bring in a lot of experience on his coaching staff. OC Frank Smith was the San Diego Chargers Running Game Coordinator. Darrell Bevell who is our QB Coach/Passing game Coordinator has been an NFL Offensive Coordinator since 2006 and has been interim Head Coach twice, once with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and once with the Detroit Lions. We have complete continuity on defense with Josh Boyer returning as Defensive Coordinator. We also have RB’s coach Eric Studesville returning now promoted to Associate HC and the much maligned OL Coach Lemuel JeanPierre. He will have a lot of help though with new OL Coach Matt Applebaum from Boston College. Wes Welker will be the WR Coach and in my opinion, it’s great to have a former player who really knows how to play the position, didn’t rely on talent alone, his dedication to running precise routes and understanding defenses was his biggest strength. There is no big ego here for McDaniel, he made assurances that he has capable people on his staff to get this team going in the right direction quickly.

So the summer heat is here, and in just a few weeks, the pads will come on, and at that point, we will have a glimpse of what this team looks like. July 30th begins training camp and then a couple of weeks later, August 13th is our first Preseason game, Saturday Night against the Buccaneers. Continuing the Pirate theme, we face off against the Las Vegas Raiders August 20th, and then the Preseason finale will be against the Philadelphia Eagles. Up until now, it’s been dreaming about what this offense might look like with all the firepower added, namely Tyreek Hill. Of course, Terron Armstead was just as important, maybe more important and Connor Williams as well. Still, it’s hard not to envision Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle on the field at the same time with TE Mike Gesicki and slot receiver Cedrick Wilson. On the other hand, McDaniel was the run game coordinator in SF and he loves to run the ball. We have a varied stable of running backs, a lot of speed and receiving ability. Raheem Mostert, Chase Edmonds, and then we brought in Sony Michel who is a guy that can carry the rock and take a little more wear and tear. We also have Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed who have done some nice things here, as well as potential power guys, ZaQuandre White (UDFA ’22) and Gerrid Doaks (D 7th RD ’21). I’d put our receiving corps against any teams. If Tua gets the protection he needs, it’s going to be fun. As training camp gets here, we just have to hope everyone stays healthy. Practice hard, learn the new offense, and STAY HEALTHY!!!

Dolphins legend Jason Taylor shares early impressions of Mike McDaniel

    Mike Masala
    July 13, 2022 1:29 pm ET

It’s hard to find many players that have fully embraced Miami more than Jason Taylor has in his life since being drafted in the third round of the 1997 draft.

He spent 13 of his 15 seasons in the NFL as a member of the Miami Dolphins and had spent the last two as part of the team’s radio broadcasts. So, he knows a thing or two about the organization.

Earlier this week, Taylor joined CBS’ Jim Berry to talk about the upcoming season, and with a new coach in Miami, the Hall of Famer was asked about his impressions of Mike McDaniel.

“I love that he’s himself,” Taylor said. “He’s not trying to be somebody else, and people say, ‘Well, he’s so different. His philosophy, his approach, the way he handles himself is so different than what you the NFL coach do.’ But that’s what players love. They love that authenticity. A genuine guy that’s just willing to be himself. He can be self-deprecating, can laugh at himself. He doesn’t take himself too seriously, but they all know and respect that he’s the boss. He’s the head football coach. A very, very smart guy, really a cool guy to be around. I’ve only been around him a couple times, but I’ve enjoyed it.

“I know, talking to the players, they have really enjoyed the, I don’t want to say breath of fresh air because the previous coach was a good guy in a lot of ways too, but it’s just different. Maybe this team needs different, and now, it’s everyone’s all in. It’s ten toes down and trying to get ready for the season.”

Everybody has really embraced the energy that McDaniel has brought to the team, from current players to the legends that are hanging out in the area. Time will tell if it will transfer to the field, but it’s good to know that most of the guys have his back.

“We have also seen an increasing blurring of the lines in the importance of left tackle and right tackle. As the NFL becomes more of a quick-game league, the front-side protector had best be on point. Five of our tackles this year ply their trade on the right side, including our second- and third-best.”

Orange passes were real expensive though (like $200 or more after fees). Looking over the lists yellows aren’t too bad at all. Say $50. It is real cool to have all those spots side by side, but some of you might want to consider grabbing a yellow and walking over.

The one thing for sure is that if you don’t have a parking pass you are well away and in most cases taking a shuttle bus.

  26. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Only a few more days until we start to hear some rookie TC reports.

  27. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Here’s how I’m feeling right now, with TC just around the corner…

IF we can successfully run the ball, it will open so many doors for our Offense. It begins in the trenches (it’s the economy O-Line, stupid!), thus allowing our RBs to generate a hopeful 4.4 or greater YPC. Our current stable of RBs has that capability, provided the O-Line does its job.

I honestly feel our coaching staff is so run-savvy/heavy that it’s nearly impossible to lack in this department. The additions of former man-crush Terron Armstead and Conner Williams should help us BIG TIME, and our coaching staff should be able to bring the very best out of our younglings (see Austin Jackson and Liam Eichenberg, for example).

I’ve zero doubt that we’re about to see Tua ‘Tuscaloosa’ Tagovailoa this season. If our O-Line can keep his jersey clean, he’s bound to bubble up like 7-Up (E-40 reference 😉 ). And for the Tua haters, I sense he’s going to be throwing bombs that travel well over his standard 50-air yard bombs we saw at Alabama. LOL… many media members actually believe Tua can’t throw a pass for over 20-air yards… 😆

Our Defense was SCARY good last year and it’s only going to get better this year. A healthy Raekwon Davis alone would have given us a playoff berth last season. And this year, Jaelan Phillips is going to be even better than last.

I’m seeing us making the playoffs this year, y’all! Not only that, but I could see us going DEEP into the playoffs… granted we stay HEALTHY.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed. If Tua does what Tua is good at and also stomps on the naysayers, we’re a Super Bowl contender. Yes I said that. 🙂

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I don’t even think Tua needs to do that, he just needs to be 2021 Tua

Everything was a struggle last year until after the Ravens game

No QB can get it done without at least competent players around him

Even Brady sucked when we rushed him up the middle

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What I mean is Tua slices and dices defenses with accurate throws, makes a few deep throws to put that to bed, and continues to be a winner. I do agree he doesn’t have to be much different than 2020, but being even better takes us to another level. We have a good team. Tua is in his 3rd season. I think Tua still feels he can be better. Of course he should. He’s 24 years old. When you were 24 did you think you maxed out in anything?

  28. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Steve, like that video you posted, it’s not all left and right. Seek truth through data and not doctrine.

  29. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Jackson has been put in position to succeed this year, from all the OL coaches to having Hunt next to him to the brilliant playcalling of MM

We should know in PS, if he can cut it

  30. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I really would like to see us sign Reuben Foster, even as camp fodder (I think he’d make our team, even if only the PS). Just imagine Channing Tindall and Foster as our backup ILBs!

  31. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Let’s look at our defense like this.
DL: Ogbah, Wilkins, Davis, Sieler and Butler
    Edge: Phillips, Van Ginkel, Ingram
    LB: Baker, Roberts, Tindall
    CB: Howard, Jones, Needham
    S: Holland, Jones, Rowe

That’s 17 players I expect to see on the field often.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Most under-rated: Raekwon Davis and Byron Jones (tie)
      Most improved: Jaelan Phillips
Most under-appreciated: Eric Rowe and Zach Sieler (tie)
      Most needle up: Jevon Holland
Most keep proving ’em wrong: Xavien Howard
      Most important DF7: Christian Wilkins
      Most important re-signing: Emmanuel Ogbah
      Most ‘silent assassin’: Elandon Roberts
Most overlooked: AVG and Jerome Baker
      Most experienced: Melvin Ingram

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We didn’t have a confident Phillips, AVG or Holland to start last year and Davis got hurt and no Tindall or Ingram

The D is much better starting this year than last, expect to see lots of safety blitzes against Buffalo, like we unleashed on Baltimore

It’s go time week 1, everything should be ready, Cheats won’t know what hit them

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I wouldn’t put AVG in that category. He’s a 4th year player who has progressed every year. The other two guys were rookies. Our defense has a nice mix of prime and young talent. It looks like the perfect storm.

  32. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Tua put a move on KVN last year, that looked like it ended his career

All KVN could do was clap his hands

It at least ended his time in NE

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think he’s done playing trying to find a career in broadcasting. He’s been on the NFLN. I don’t think he’s very good.

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Josh Boyer should watch some Buddy Ryan ’46’ Defense film. Maybe he has. I think we have the personnel on defense to overwhelm teams.

The offense playing well makes the defense even more productive.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We should play aggressive as hell on D, we have the backend to cover man to man and several talented blitzers

Cover 0 or Amoeba early and often

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s the thing, play that way as long as you can when you have it. Coach McD already said it’s not a fun defense to play against. LOL

  34. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If Boyer can’t succeed with this D he should never get a DC job again

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Boyer has been around a lot of winning and he’s from Belichick’s school of defense. Over a decade. Flores didn’t bring him aboard because he’s clueless. Now he gets to make a name for himself. McDaniel saw that. We also have Pat and Sam teaching the corners. 🙂

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I’m not going to disagree with that. In fact, it’s one of my biggest concerns. I probably will never understand the last half year turnaround on D. The scheme shifted/amoeba’ed in the second half….never saw it in the first part of the season. Jmo.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Whatever he did before was at a lower position, last year he had Flo to help, this year he’s mostly on his own at the top

He’ll be exposed, if the D doesn’t perform, like we know they can

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I agree, but I also agree they were smart to tag him

Under Flo we weren’t great at signing FAs that were close to what we paid, but the contract length and outs are why we had the cap to put this year’s team together, signing Gesicki longterm would’ve been a mistake…

…not because he isn’t worth it, but we just don’t know yet

We got rid of Parker and Hollins, if we let Gesicki walk, that would’ve 3 of 4 high point wrs let go, keeping Gesicki and Williams was the right thing to do

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

I do, too…..let’s see what this NEW offense looks like first with all the new pieces.

  35. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If we end the season top 5 on O and D in points or yards I wouldn’t be shocked

If we aren’t top 15 in 1 or the other on both O and D I will be

Turnovers on D can skew the yards, so it’s why I added points for/against

  36. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Without being close to the team, it’s impossible to say how much a particular coach affects any given unit. If you want proof of that, Lemuel Jeanpierre is still employed with the Dolphins. Josh Boyer will have his opportunity this season to cement his name as a legitimate DC, or a poser if the defense falters. I expect this defense to be better than last year, we’ll see how it goes.

  37. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I’ve not read very far up the page, so pardon me if I repeat stuff you guys already said.
However, what I did read was spot on analysis,
so much truer and more precise than the “national” pundidiots write.

  38. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

What I am trying to figure out is how many balls we need to put in play at a time on offense.
We have the talent to request at least 2 maybe 3 footballs at a time when we are on offense.
Last year both Hill and Waddle easily surpassed 100 catches, not targets, but catches.
    Can that happen again?
    Sure.
    Should it?
    I don’t think so.
I think we should try to not wear out those two little guys (or Gesicki)
to keep them fresh for a deep playoff run. (smile)

  39. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

But those are pass catchers and passes caught statistics.
SF under McDaniel as OC last year was one of the league leaders in % of rushes.
So how many opportunities will Hill and Waddle actually get?
Add a bunch of catches for Gesicki and the RBs,
as McDaniel likes to throw to both of those positions,
and what is left for Tyreek?
He is already saying he was under utilized in KC,
which is an astonishing declaration for everyone in the NFL, esp. KC & Miami, to hear.

  40. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

So I looked up the 49ers’ and Miami’s 2021 stats
and threw some number projections together.
The 49ers had 343 out of 514. (about 20 passes caught per game)
26th most out of 32 teams.
The Dolphins had about 24 completions per game.
    404 out of 615 attempts.
10th most completions in the league,
right between the Packers at 402 and the Rams at 406.

  41. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

So should we split the difference and say the Dolphins “will have” 22 completions per game?
Hill is demanding more than SF handed out.
Sooo … If we go by our stat last year (24 catches per game) … (10th most in the league)
(more catches than Aaron Rodgers delivered!!)
Who then will get those catches?
    It could look like this:
    Hill 5
    Waddle 4
    Gesicki 4
    other TEs 2
    RBs 4
    Ced Wilson 3
other WRs and Christian Wilkins 2

  42. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    Would Hill freak at this?
For reference, a 100 catch season is only averaging 5.88 catches per game,
so Hill only averaged a little more than 6 last year.
So this is not that much less and yet would keep him fresh for the Super Bowl.
    (smile)
That would give Hill 85 catches for the season (regular season).

  43. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

    projected Catches for the season:
    Hill 85
    Waddle 68
    Gesicki 68
    other TEs 34
    RBs 68
    Wilson 51
    other WRs 34
    Total team completions = 408

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Do the Hill and Waddle numbers seem too low?
Awesome in the sense that this gives us room to become
a way more potent offense than last year’s …
      and who wouldn’t want that?

  44. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Why would we want more offense?
Of the top 17 teams in terms of offensive yards gained last year,
only 2 teams had a losing record, Ravens and Vikings, both at 8-9.
    … …
    wow
Of the bottom 15 teams in offense last year,
    only 3 had winning records,
the lucky Stealers* off that f’n tie, 9-7-1,
    us at 9-8,
    and the Saints, also 9-8.

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

      btw
the Ravens had the most offensive plays per game last year, a whopping 70!!!

We did well with this at #11 most in the league @ 64 and a half.
Everybody but Seattle had more than a thousand offensive plays.
The Seahags were pitiful with a full 3 offensive plays per game less than the Falcons,
      who were 31st.

  45. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Naples – considering the fact that at least gleaning from what McD did as run game coordinator for the Niners, we will be running the ball more and therefore throwing less. Add on the fact that we also added Ced Wilson, both Hill and Waddle should have less targets/catches. I do think they will have higher YPC and maybe more TD’S too

    • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

      yep as I said above.
      Let’s look at those splits.
Miami ran 1097 offensive plays, SF 1046.
That ranked us 11th most total plays and SF at 28th most.
      Of those plays,
Frisco was 6th at 29 rushes per game, and we were 17th at 26.
      Not so different really.
Rushing yards per game is where we were so bad.
SF was 7th most @ 125 ypg, but we were only 29th @ 92 ypg.

  46. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

We tried 36 passes per game and SF only 29.
We were 8th most in the league and SF tried 31st most passes per game.
    Therefore …
    Surprise,
SF had 29 passes per game and 29 rushes per game.
(Because of rounding, it was really about 51% passing and 49 % rushing!!!!!!)
Miami had 36 passes per game and 26 rushes.
Miami was about 60/40 pass to rush ratio!!)

  47. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

What about YPC and YPG receiving?
If Hill and Waddle average a “normal” WR average of 12 YPC,
which would be more than Waddle did last year,
then the YPG for Miami in passing would project to something like:
    Hill 5 x 12 = 60 yards per game receiving
    Waddle 4 x 12 = 48
    Gesicki 4 x 10 = 40
    other TEs 2 x 5 = 10
    RBs 4 x 5 = 20
    Ced Wilson 3 x 10 = 30
    other WRs 2 x 8 = 16
for a game total of passing yards of
224, which seems well within Tua’s skillset to achieve.
This would equate to a season passing yards total of 3808.
    Last year,
Miami’s QBs threw for about 3652 yards on the season
or about 215 yards per game,
    or 17th in the league.
Can we do better than that?
KC was 2nd at 288 per game.
    SF was 12th @ 237 per game.

  48. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Would Hill be happy with a stat line of 85 catches for 1020 yards?
Would you be happy if he had that and we had this?
    … …
    Hill 85 for 1020 yds
    Waddle 68 catches for 814
    Gesicki 68 for 680
    other TEs 34 for 170
    RBs 68 for 340
    Wilson 51 for 510
    other WRs 34 for 272
    Total team completions = 408 for 3808

Obviously we all now wish we had gotten Brees and maybe Saban pushed hard for him. My theory is that Saban missed being God like he was in Bama. You just can’t be that as much as a NFL Coach of grown up men.

The one ancedote about Saban was the all employee memo that went out ordering no one to make eye constact with Saban. Thats some kind of ego. He walks past you in the hallway and you bow your head.

He did not draft Aaron Rodgers when he had the chance.
He needs to man up and not blame the Drew Brees mistake for his decision.
I agree with the writer who says if Satan had said, “I realized i was a much better recruiter and college coach working with the young kids than the men of the NFL, so I went back to the NCAA,”
then I would respect him more.
      Not totally.

I have no issues with anything Saban did as a Fin, especially not how he left

He stayed true to the players until the end, if he had said, yeah I’m going to Bama, in early December it would’ve destroyed the locker room

It’s a business, he did what was best for him after the season, that’s a different issue

  50. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Just to make myself feel bad,
the #1 passer in YPG was Tampa Bay, as
Tom Brady threw for almost 100 yards per game MORE than Miami’s QBs.
Of course, they tried 43.3 passes per game to our 36.

  51. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

You’re killing me with these stats

Take out the bills game where Tua threw for 13 yards on 4 passes, that puts him at 220 for 12 games, to say he’s going to throw for a few yards more per game is grossly underestimating the situation

We likely will throw less passes per game, but yards per completion should be up

What difference does it make if Waddle has 4 catches for 48 yards a game or 3 for 48?

I expect to see Waddle and Hill with over 12 ypc

When a wr has over 100 catches on the year, the extra catches are generally short easy completions, take away the bk catches and the avg goes way up

  52. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Tim tried this same exercise last year, trying to estimate catches, yards, rushing yards…

Problem is you remove 1 variable and it throws everything out of whack

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport on why he listed Brandon Jones as the Phin’s “secret weapon.”
    ———————————

“The fact Miami Dolphins made one of the biggest splash moves of the offseason in trading for star wideout Tyreek Hill is hardly a secret. But there’s another fact about the Dolphins that many casual fans don’t realize—Miami has quietly gone about putting together a stout defense to go along with that new offensive firepower.

And box safety Brandon Jones is an underrated component of that defense.

In addition to amassing 79 total tackles last year and adding an interception, Jones tallied five sacks. That number ranked fourth on the Dolphins, but it led every defensive back in the entire National Football League.

Jones may have already established himself as one of the best blitzing safeties in the league, but he told reporters at OTAs that his goal in 2022 is to become known as a more complete safety.

“My goal is to obviously kind of branch away from being labeled as this guy can only blitz, this guy can’t cover, this guy can’t do this,” Jones said. “Just trying to be and find the best way for me that I could be well rounded.”

Even if Jones achieves that goal, it isn’t likely that he would receive the sort of press as Jamal Adams of the Seahawks or Derwin James of the Chargers.

But he could have a similar impact for Miami—for a fraction of Adams’ salary.”

Our prior coaches on offense never had a chance to build anything. Flores changed it every year with OC and OL coaches. No vision on offense. Sorry about using facts to analyze the team.
    Why did I do that?
    Because
I’m one of the biggest homers and hype guys out there, being naturally optimistic.
So to chill the enthusiasm, I turn to cold hard facts.
People say stuff, but do the facts match?
Example, “McDaniel likes to run, so we’ll run more than we pass.”
Fact: SF itself ran less than they passed; 49ers passed 51% of the time last year,
    while Miami passed 60%, so,
Even if we pass less than we did in 2021, it is extremely unlikely that we’ll run more than we pass. Especially with a WR room like ours and no Derrick Henry type bell cow.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think we’ll see more balance, not so much that our run/pass will be lopsided one way or the other. What I want to see is more time of possession and TDs. 🙂

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

TDs yes TOP is kind of arbitrary

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

TOP means sustained drives, not 3 and outs or 6 and outs and no points. Wear defenses down with a balanced attack and score instead of punting 5+ times.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Nobody wants that but what is the solution? Everyone says common sense gun laws but I hear no solution that would stop this sort of thing other than banning guns all together. So only criminals who get them on the black market would have them, along with law enforcement and the military.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

Legislators would like to ban assault-style weapons and high capacity mags. Seems that is a start. Yeah criminals could still get them then, but you could make that a severe criminal offense. Cops would still have.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Stanger, let’s say the AR-15 is banned. Then the next shooting is done with two hand guns that have 12-15 round clips. Now what?

A severe criminal offense doesn’t matter to criminals or these shooters who most of the time are willing to die either by law enforcement or self inflicted. I just don’t see banning the weapon as being the solution to the disturbed mind.

      • stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

But a key part of this is if you put a hefty criminal penalty on such a weapon the manufacturers will make less of them. It’s not reinventing the wheel…. we had such a ban in place for over a decade. It worked.

I like Mark Levin too on some issues, but I think he’s a stuffy conservative as well. Not everyone lives life the same way. Is freedom real or a utopian view?

Think about both sides. I believe in freedom… except for this, that and the other thing. Most of us are not retarded – sorry for the politically incorrect term but we need some of that.

The extreme right and left are of the same cloth, they will never be happy unless society if perfect for them. Good luck… you’ll die before that ever happens.

Tim, the difference with the far right and the far left is the far left has the squad and some others like Bernie, that actually are in congress

I believe maybe 2% of what the karencrat politicians says, and that’s usually when what they’re saying isn’t political

LOL at doing hard time now a days!
I told you how to fix it!
Start hanging all of them from a tree!

You’ll run out sooner or later!!!

    • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Yep, you run out of gang members if you hang them because they used an assault weapon in a gang crime….lol.

….. unless you can get god to turn their life around….oh my….uh oh.

      • Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

The ones that don’t want to be hung will stop!

Or they will stop when hung!

And I don’t remember limiting my statement to gang members with AR15’s?

Anyone who commits a PRE-MEDITATED felony with a firearm should get the same treatment!

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

Agreed, maybe it will deter both, but typically the mass shooter goes down in a “blaze” of glory…lol

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

You should go on a fishing charter there and catch you some Roosterfish. They don’t have to go far offshore to catch huge sailfish and even marlin. Not to mention many Pacific world records are caught in Costa Rica.

      • Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

If the grankids were here (hopefully some day), I’d do that in a second. They would love it! I’m not a fisherman though….

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

From what I hear, it’s not expensive. I heard you can charter a full day on a 28′-32′ boat for less than $1500.

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

That would be priceless with the grandkids!

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

In ’98 we chartered one outside of Cabo, for about $250, caught a 125lb marlin, when it was gaffed and brought on board the deck hand smacked it over the head with a baseball bat…I said never again will I go sport fishing

Will still fish for smaller fish though, plan on getting a fishing kayak and taking it in the Indian River Lagoon around 2024, when I move to the Sebastian/VB area

So I have been aggravated by the talking heads referencing “Big time Throws” and “Turnover worthy throws” when discussing Tua and why (to paraphrase) he sucks. I finally went and looked up what the F these two types of throws are and after I gotta say, they are BULL SHIT arbitrary rankings as I thought they would be. Here is how PFF defines said ratings:

“big-time throws” (BTT) earn the highest level of grade and can be “best described as a pass with excellent ball location and timing, generally thrown further down the field and/or into a tighter window,”

Just 4.4 percent of attempts have earned this distinction since 2014 (same rate as touchdowns, interestingly) and resulted in a passer rating of 158.1.

“turnover-worthy throws” (TWT) as a better representation of when a quarterback makes a bad play

Turnover-worthy throws occurred on 3.4 percent of attempts since 2014

SOOOO, PFF and the talking heads rate Tua low because he had more TWT’s than BTT’s. HOWEVER they don’t remind us that OF ALL THROWS in the NFL since 2014 ONLY 4.4% are BTT’s and ONLY 3.4% are TWT’s.

So they are basing his worthiness on just a little under 8% of ALL throws….

    Arbitrary AND worthless stat.

You could go with the assumption that most of what is said by the media is BS and save yourself a lot of time and more importantly avoid any kind of math.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Can a QB make a big time throw is a noteworthy question, it’s what can set a QB apart from another, because those that can, can make a play at any given time making him dangerous

For example it’s 4th and 15 game on the line, ball on your own 5 1:45 left in the game

Fiedler and his noodle arm couldn’t get it done against NE with better down and distance situation

Herbert week 18 last year did get it done, about 5 4th down conversions

What does it all mean, if you don’t have great success with BTTs, you better be great doing something else

Tua’s accuracy, and pocket presence could be his way around BTTs, we’ll know this season, if he’s ready for primetime

Having a great roster on paper only gets you so far, you have to have the desire and put forth the effort

I don’t think you’ll find a hungrier group than ours, now let’s go get a sandwich

Tyreek running his mouth about Tua can be a good thing, because now he has to back it up, we’ll get 110% effort from him for sure

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Have you looked at the freak without his shirt on? I think he gives 100% 100% of the time. LOL

I love that we got him to pair with Waddle, who many compared to Hill when he was coming out of college. Now Waddle can see first hand the grind that Hill goes through to be as great as he is.

With Hill it’s not ONLY natural ability. He grinds so hard to sharpen that natural ability. Hopefully Waddle and EZ-E learn from him.
