Stephen Ross Fallout – Training Camp Stuff

I’ve never hated Stephen Ross like so many people in South Florida do. I think most of the people who hate him, hate him for the wrong reasons. They hate him because he’s a New York guy first and foremost. Cracks me up how much people from Florida hated him for that reason from the get-go. How many people who live in Florida are actually Florida natives? Florida is littered with transplants, littered! If he came from South Carolina he’d have been fine. I always saw Ross as a guy who just wants to win, and would do anything, even things outside the rules to win. I think a lot of rich, billionaires feel that way, they’ve been doing that their whole lives. On the other hand, the NFL has 32 billionaires all in the same boat, and there are rules that have to be followed or there are consequences for breaking those rules. Well, now as Dolphins fans, we have to eat the shit sandwich of losing one of our TWO 1st round picks in next year’s draft, and then another 3rd round pick in 2024. It sucks, it definitely does, but do I hate Stephen Ross? He’s done everything he could to make Hard Rock Stadium a great place to come for Dolphins fans. While we haven’t won a Superbowl or been perennial playoff contenders, no other Dolphins Owner in the last 30 years did that either! So I still don’t hate Stephen Ross, but I wouldn’t hate if he sold the team either. Then you have to worry about who takes over.

To be clear, I’m not defending Ross. I hate what he did tampering with Tom Brady of all people. I tell you with all honesty I could not watch Tom Brady play on the Miami Dolphins. Whatever we would possibly accomplish with Tom Brady as QB would only be another feather in the cap of Tom Brady and our team would be on Brady’s coattails, just as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were. He went to a very talented Bucs team, and then he recruited other NFL talent (Sound like the NBA anyone?) to put them over the top. The Bucs that previous season were 7-9, but their QB Jameis Winston turned the ball over a historically high 45 times, 33 interceptions and 12 fumbles. He also threw for over 5000 yards and 30 TD’s because that team had talent. Brady didn’t go to the Detroit Lions and win the Super Bowl, no, he went to a team on the cusp and then brought in a few extra great players to get them over the top. If having Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Antonio Brown, and Leonard Fournette on your team all due to Brady recruiting, and winning the Super Bowl with those guys make you feel good, so be it. It would do nothing for me and the entire season would be tainted and unwatchable for me.

So, on to training camp. It’s been a competitive camp so far, but it’s hard to glean important information until they get the pads and helmets on, which just recently happened, and even then, it’s not that easy. Guys that are training camp stars sometimes get cut, and sometimes guys don’t get exposed or ball out until the real games start. Undrafted WR Braylon Sanders is getting a lot of hype right now, but who knows if this guy even makes the roster. 4th RD pick Erik Ezukanma is also getting positive hype, and is a more likely candidate to make the roster. Then again, undrafted WR Wes Welker is the WR Coach now in Miami, so maybe I’m off on that. There’s also a lot of hype going to TE Durham Smythe. Plenty of talk that he will be getting more reps. Well, he’s the better blocker, that much is clear, and he’s a decent receiver as well. Doesn’t matter who starts, but if you think Durham Smythe is going to get more targets than TE Mike Gesicki, you’re crazy. My hope is that Gesicki becomes a more balanced NFL TE under McD, but if not, he’s clearly the better receiving TE with speed, agility, the ability to high point the football and catch anything near him, and of course make a contested catch.

It’s impossible to gauge the running backs right now so we’ll have to wait some for that to develop. It seems Raheem Mostert is healthy and feeling good, so that’s a plus. LT Austin Jackson is having a strong camp so far, but it’s too early to get real excited. Let’s hope the injury bug stays away, it has so far, and that’s one of the most important things. Get through training camp healthy, and get ready for the season. There’s always feel good stories in training camp, but often times they don’t amount to much. One of them is Noah Igbinoghene, and how this may finally be his year. That would be great, just don’t bet on it. Tua is throwing the ball well, his best passes are touch passes because he doesn’t throw frozen ropes like Justin Herbert. If he’s going to do that, it’s going to be within 20 yards, he doesn’t have elite arm strength, he has elite accuracy with average NFL strength. He makes good decisions most times, has a quick release, and sees the defense well. I think he’s going to have a great year, can’t wait to see it!

I still think we have the best team we’ve had in years, but it’s going to take more time than I thought it would, to be where we need to be

Starting with the Texans game last year the D hit their stride, hope the O doesn’t take quite as long

  17. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s not personal, it’s tiresome. Believing in things where there is no proof makes anyone wonder if this is a fucked up way of thinking.

By the way… evolution is real, the proof is there, and many species have been in existence for millions of years. Not just a couple of thousands of years as in 2022. How the fuck did baby Jesus exist with adults and the wise men visiting him? None of it makes any sense. I guess God told me to be totally stupid and ignore all things that make sense. After all… he controls my destiny.

Young children that need to be in St. Judes hospital and Shriners hospital must be an amazing plan by God. I love seeing these young ones with no hair wondering if they’ll live another day. Praise God! I say fuck you!

Dude, I’m as non religious as they come but you take it to extremes. Bookman said nothing about religion and you attacked his beliefs. And you continue to belittle Christianity in a complete absence of anyone else talking about it. And you are angry about it. You have a serious issue and it ain’t the world.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Really, isn’t current liberalism and progressive beliefs the same thing? Why can’t liberty exist without a belief in something nobody can prove? That’s how we should represent our government? Even though I think Democrats these days are all about a big government control, the Republicans want to go back to the 1950’s.

The problem is two totally different viewpoints and nothing else in between can exist.

Most people want to live a free life. Our two major parties try really hard to curb that.

Don’t get the anti-religion diatribe tho. Wasn’t the subject.

What’s funny is I talk Dolphins football often and only a few reply. But all the drama stuff becomes a hot topic and takes over the blog. Live what you do, not what you say. 🙂

In a very weird way you continue what you don’t like by bringing it up over and over. The football stuff is there but you don’t engage. Who’s responsible for that?

I mentioned Tindall and Ezukanma as our top two picks flashing in TC. Maybe two people replied. Nope, I must complain and call out others that say things I’m not cool with. I do find hypocrisy humorous. 😉

  20. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

This is the saddest thing about all this.
    bookman11 says:
2 people I used to respect on this blog, not any more.
I immediately assumed he was talking about me.
Then I thought, “well actually, maybe he never respected me in the first place.”
Then I thought, “no I think he left after that one thing I wrote, so it’s probably me.”
Since he does not say which “side” the people are on for whom he has lost respect,
I bet there are a lot of people on here who think he might be speaking of them
and even going through the thought process that I did as I thought more deeply.
    … …
Then I thought, “what’s really sad is that
actually, I could’ve written what Bookman wrote!!”
Because some of you people that I thought of as “friends”
have written stuff that I really cannot support.
Then I thought, “those same people could say the same thing about me.”

  21. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

But you know what else I realize?
There are multiple people on here with whom I disagree on a position that they have stated,
and yet I agree with them on others. Strongly.
And I hope there are people like me,
people who disagree with me on some things,
yet have to admit that they might agree with me on others.

  22. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Not naming names and also trying to stay safe on topics,
    but
I agree with some on here about their feelings for Steve Ross
    and others I disagree with.
Even some with whom I agree are way more hard on Ross than I. Or soft on Ross than I.
    Another example or two:
There are some who post about a certain baseball team
that I dislike because I am a Braves fan.
But that team is their “home” team or their “chlldhood hero” team.
There are some who post about hockey,
which I find just as boring as soccer and Winter Olympics,
not worthless, not that they don’t feature great athletes,
    just boring to me.
This is probably just related to how I was raised or my age group or
maybe some inner psychology acquired through the life i have led.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think Bookman was referring to Mike E and I. Just saying, if I may be so bold.

      Naples, I don’t think you’ve ruffled anyone’s feathers.

      • naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

well thanks, but I do definitely think that I have ruffled some feathers, and I still think bookman was referring to me above,
due to the timing of his initial statement several weeks ago of being done with this blog.
However, I am not calling for bookman to state clearly what and whom he has such a huge problem with.
He hasn’t said and I respect his privacy on that.
It might not be good for him to set out his feelings any more bluntly than he has.
I’m pretty sure he came to a Fest game, and I sat next to him and had a great time at the game and at that tailgate before it at more than one of the Fests we both attended.
I’d like to remember that bookman,
dwell on that part of our relationship,
        cheer for the Dolphins,
and move on from the other stuff, at least as much as possible.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Okay. I have no problem with anyone as long as they realize I have a voice too.

  23. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I know you see that I am trying to avoid even listing political or religious issues,
    but it’s the same thing.
Some people on here love and some on here hate
certain prominent political people and /or positions on certain important issues.
And I might agree with some of their positions and disagree on others.
I might agree with them about hockey or Steve Ross
and disagree about other stuff, like the Mets or Minkah the fff whiner.
    … …
    And their are nuances.
I think Griner was wrong and stupid to take that shit into Russia,
but I don’t think she deserves 9 years in the Gulag.
I think our gov’t should play Russia’s evil game of prisoner swap,
but that’s to trade her for another political pawn,
not trading her for a convicted murderer.
But that’s not a new game; it’s been going on since the 60s at least.

and go ‘huh I didn’t realize he/she felt that way’

I wish we could all do that.
Ignore what we read that hit somebody else’s nerve but we disagree with,
realize that America has so many people,
that we can’t all possibly agree on everything,
    and just stick with
    “Go Dolphins!”
    … …
I really agree with Wyo on that and many other things he says,
even though he is a guy with whom i disagree, at least partially
    on certain issues.
People on here apparently can’t help but post when their special nerve is hit.
    I’ve been guilty of that.
    … …
    Specifically,
I apologize to Bookman for that one rant,
or that one position of mine, which caused him to lose a thing he loved.
    This Blog.
I feel bad that he might lose the coolness of an ultra long distance
    camaraderie,
might lose the fun of cheering for the Dolphins with people from all over the world,
just because he disagreed with me on something else.
And generally, I apologize to all of you,
    not for my strong opinions,
    everybody has those,
but for making anyone leave by stating those opinions.
    … …
This blog is too much fun and too special and cool of a thing to lose.
I hear and acknowledge Herd’s warning.
Let’s not lose the blog because of other people’s unrelated beliefs.
    … …
Let’s not lose the USA because we disagree about who people are going to vote for and why.
This is my blog, not that I get any credit for starting it, running it, or owning it,
it’s just my one and only football blog.
    … …
    The USA is my country.
    My beloved America.

I don’t want to lose it.

We moderators try very hard to let everyone have the freedom to say what they want here. That was one of the main points that everyone expressed to us when we founded this site. The only times we took action is when it got very personal. With that understanding everyone should realize that you are on a blog on the internet. At times people will say things that piss you off and get you upset. We cannot protect the sensibilities of everyone nor are we going to censor content. These are the same people you have been blogging with for years. We all know everyone’s predelictions so nothing that anyone says should come as that big of a surprise. Just read it and move on or skip the particular posts. I also want to thank Mike E for his continuous efforts to post great content on this site. My opinion he has posted more insightful information than our local beat reporters without a paywall. So everyone put on your big boy pants (except Herd) and just get along

  27. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

We’re a group here for better or worse. Like Naples illustrated, there are are going to be some things that people believe strongly in that I will disagree with or agree with, and vice versa. During the slow months, alternative topics are going to pop up such as politics, and invariably, there will be disagreements because we’re not all the same. Religion may come up, and again, we’re not all the same. We all have different ideas, beliefs, whatever, and you have to be able to look past it. If you can’t, such as Bookman, then he’s doing the right thing staying away. I’m not here that much myself, not because of the content, because of time. I can’t get on during work, and I believe Randy is in the same position, although he used to come on during lunch. I hope he comes back when the season starts because the Miami Dolphins football team is what brings us all together. Some of us are from FLA, some of us are not, and some are transplants to FLA. That’s the beauty of this group, the different places we come from (Florida, Manitoba, United Kingdom, Wisconsin, New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, California, Texas, Arizona etc etc). This blog is a bunch of very different people with one big commonality, and a lot of small ones, and some big differences too. Either you enjoy that, or you don’t. If you don’t, no need to pile on, you’re not going to change what it is now, things evolve, and change, and this blog is no different. Most of us have been together since around 2008 or so, so some 14 years later, we all have changed some. “This is Us”.

  29. ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

Great posts from Ken and Mike, and (mainly) thanks to Mike for all his outstanding, thought-provoking and informative output on new articles.

I’m a bit out of the way here, but still feel like I sorta know most posters tolerably well after reading way too much stuff over the years. I don’t particularly understand US politics, lots of US issues and laws in any great depth so I never get drawn into politics or “hot-button” issues anyway. That being said, there are way, way better things to do with the few short moments (in terms of the history of time) that we have on earth than argue on the internet. You never change the other person’s pov and invariably it ends up messy and unfulfilling. It’s so much easier agreeing to disagree and turning the other cheek.

I always stick to 2 rules when engaging on the internet – treat any conversation as if you were in a room with someone – if you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face, don’t type it. Also, the written word, lacking the nuance of inflection, expression and body language is way more open to interpretation than the spoken word, so accept that things can be misconstrued. I also believe you can’t please all of the people all of the time, so it’s best to be yourself and for others to accept you for what you are and vice versa. Fundamentally disagreeing with something doesn’t have to be personal. It is possible and ok to agree to disagree. There is at least one poster I have noticed who has had a history of run-ins on here who is trying his best to embrace this philosophy.

I took a long absence from posting on here when things got ugly and plenty of others are currently too. My suggestion to all is “vive la difference” (and we hate the French 😉). Accept and embrace other people’s uniqueness, debate respectfully, but don’t get bogged down in pointless, needless confrontation which achieves nothing and drives others away. Turn the other cheek. My $0.02.

Because Tua throws such a high arc deep ball it allows Hill, Waddle and others to run under it to make easy catches

On the other hand Skyler throws it more on a line, making it harder to completely, but less likely to be intercepted

Which is better? Depends on the game situation and your receivers and your accuracy and how the D is playing you

Tua needs great accuracy, which he has, to be affective with the high arc, Bridgewater also has a high arc and is pretty accurate with it

Bottomline is there’s more situations where the frozen rope is better

    Steve,
I don’t see that as even a remote possibility. If we actually had tanked, I might believe it. But we clearly didn’t tank, so there is nothing to cover up in that regard. And it’s not some big secret that organizations don’t always try their hardest to win every game. It happened with suck for luck and it happens every year when teams rest players for the playoffs. There is just no reason to hide it to the degree you’re suggesting. What would be the point?

I don’t believe for a minute Ross was ‘joking’ about tanking, but Flores and the team didn’t tank, and the investigation corroborated Flores’ story that he was asked by Ross to tank. One of the coaches said that stuff never made its way down to the field. What’s to hide?

Tampering with multiple teams contracted employees, in the case of Brady over multiple years, and in the case of Payton flagarantly making contact after being denied by the Saints to speak to him is the much bigger transgression IMO and doesn’t require any secret cover up to explain the punishment.

What I’m getting at is we have the right personnel at RB

Not going to find too many teams a decade, that can tell you they’re going to run it and still be effective

Several running plays in camp went for negative yards, but the D was all over it, as if they knew it was going to be a run, because that’s what the O was working on

No, Tagovailoa was not included among the offensive standouts so far in training camp, and those who strictly go by social media clips showing his long completions certainly will be befuddled by this.

Tagovailoa has been solid overall, with some really good practices and a couple of not-so-successful outings, but this notion he’s been lighting it up that’s been suggested by some — including some in the media — is just flat-out not accurate.

Having said that, yes, Tagovailoa absolutely has had his share of nice dimes downfield, which anybody should have known he always had the ability to do.

And if it bears saying again, if Tua has time, he will connect with Hill and Waddle downfield. That’s never been the concern.

Tim, yes I AM a man of science. Full disclosure: I believe somebody or something (God) created the ‘Big Bang’… but that’s aside from the point I’m trying to make, man. It’s alright to get along with peeps who don’t necessarily agree with your views on religion and/or politics.

I think the point that some people are missing is that how exactly are we, the moderators, supposed to eliminate politics, or whatever else gets folks in a tizzy? Should we ban everyone who utters a word about politics? Should we just have zero tolerance on anything regarding politics?

I say FUCK NO!!! This is not Kindergarten, we’re fucking grown men and women. People are going to discuss what they wish to discuss. It’s not like there’s only one or two, or even three people that bring up politics. I’ve seen all different people discuss it and bring it up as a starter. Do we really need blog police?

Insulted, I’m insulted and basically I think to belittle the blog due to what Bookman calls a political wormhole is bullshit. Should we only talk about the Dolphins and Grease? I mean c’mon!!! I think it’s a weak accusation, and I think he got bent out of shape when I asked if he was holding a grudge because I firmly believe he had no intention of coming back, and frankly, now I don’t want him back, although he’s welcome to if he wishes. I just don’t think he fully understands the dynamic. I hated banning anyone, I really did and those on the Admin board could testify to that. We did it, because we thought we could make it a better experience. I guess that wasn’t enough. Well, if that’s the case, look in the mirror, and just realize that this place is not for you. NOT because it’s a shithole, or the blog spiraled down a political wormhole, but because you just don’t like it, and leave it there. Don’t blame the folks who have tried their best to make it a good experience, while you (Bookman) haven’t done a fucking thing other than play victim! Rant over!

    ________________________________________________________________________

Thanks for the heads up Rock
I stream everything through the internet via firestick now. And I mean everything.
I’ll be able to stream WFOR and NFL network – will try to watch repeat on Sunday (@ 12:00pm for me, as that’s the most civilised slot).
If anyone is interested, I have a brilliant provider. It’s £90 p.a to subscribe and has all live sport – baseball, basketball and loads of VOD including all Star Wars stuff on Disney channel, 4k movies – Elvis just added – and tv from all over the US (regional) and world etc etc. It is of course like the NFL links – not entirely “approved”.
Servers do occasionally go down, but for that money, I’ve more than learned to live with it.
Email Mike E and he’ll forward to me and I’ll send details if interested. There is a Telegram group to join which also has a Sports section where all live events are listed. I was surfing stuff yesterday as new channels had been added and was watching little league baseball live. The world has shrunk.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Is this like a Firestick that’s been “jailbroke”?

      • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

That sounds right Mike. You just enable developer options, download a couple of Apps, pay an annual subscription and you’re good to go. There is probably a way to record stuff too but never really looked into it. You can do it through other devices than Firesticks too. I’m not great techie, but I go it working.

  85. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

How exactly was the world shattered yesterday?

UK – A friend of mine did that (Firestick). It’s amazing how much content he can watch. I’m considering going that way as well, although I would like to be able to record shows as well, which at least as far as I know, he cannot. Still, that is awesome capability!

    • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

My guess is you can only record the channel the receiving device is set to (i.e. 1 at a time) unless you switch channel or maybe have multiroom and more than one device which is doable. It’s obviously a UK based service, but you can have the last week general tv on catch up (with ads if a commercial station) and each Premier League game is now on a loop until the team next plays – usually about a week.
Being able to go downstairs and watch CBS Miami, Orlando etc etc blows my mind.
As well as the VOD streaming service I subscribe to there is a Cinema App floating out there FOC. This has thousands of tv series and films which you can watch on demand. The damn thing even remembers where you are up to if you leave a show half way through. And there are no ads. I’ll never go back to conventional tv again.

He fixed our economy, brought jobs back, businesses back, set business up to succeed instead of being regulated with restrictions to no end, he lowered taxes, kept inflation in check, fixed trade deals, that favored other countries…

He set out to fix corrupt DC, that’s where the shit hit the fan with the establishment and why they started the fake Russia investigation

Trump has been spied on, wrongfully impeached twice, Russia inv, phones tapped, so yeah he like to be treated equally

In one of hilllary’s emails she asked her advisors, if she could have Trump killed

I used a hacked firestick for awhile. I don’t remember why I stopped using it. I guess I just found using NFLbite and sportsurge to be easier.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I remember I had to go through like 20 menus to get to what I wanted and then still had to find one of the streaming sites that would work properly (same issue as using NFLbite or sportssurge). Of course this was something like 8 or 10 years ago. maybe it’s gotten better since then.

Light years better Kong. This is a service supported by servers that you pay for. Most of the links work and there’s no searching involved. On Live tv there are over 16k channels from countries all over the globe. You can find any game you want in HD with an almost flawless stream (very rarely interrupted) and no fecking pop-ups. I am a tightwad and I stumped up happily!

I’ll shoot Mike and email to get the details from you. I’m interested.

        LMFAO

        I’ll shoot Mike an email
        not shoot mike and email

      • ukfinfan's avatar ukfinfan says:

No worries big fella. The guy does free 24 hour trials as well, You get NFL pass, NHL pass, UFC pass, NRL/AFL pass, all PPV boxing events, MLB – all live. You don’t get functionality to go back and watch recorded events in most!

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Above you mention it’s 90 pounds, which I believe is something like 110 US; is that annually? How many years have you been using the service? (I’m legit interested, so I’m going to ask questions, lol.)

LMAO @ Kong! I read your first post and I was thinking you really didn’t like my rant.

I’ve always liked Bookman and it seemed you went a bit scorched earth on him yesterday. But I *shrug* and say that’s between you and him… I do my best to stay out of the interpersonal crap unless someone brings it to me.

As I said yesterday, I agree that in an open forum it’s up to each of us to moderate what we take in because there is no moderation except in the extreme- that’s the point. You can’t ask people to stop posting what they like to talk about in an open forum.

I usually skip over Steve’s, MF13’s, and Stang’s political crap, and if the whole board goes on a political bender, I take some time off (except for the occasional current event that I chime in on for a minute like Roe v Wade). It just takes a little discipline since I’m addicted to hitting refresh on this board every 20 minutes 5 days a week at work, lol.

So, no I don’t want to shoot you 😂😂

“I usually skip over Stang’s” shiny, lustorious political golf ball-sized pearls of wisdom….. there I fixed it for you. 🙂

I used firesticks for a while. They were great, but when I retired and moved, my new neighborhood has cable etc. built into the HOA fees, so I get highspeed internet and bunches of channels “free.” Not really, but we cannot opt out of the HOA, so we may as well just use that.

Happy to try to help. First I should say I’m not on commission. But the more cash the guy makes the more he invests in the service and I like helping folks out. He has 2 Apps. One is Live TV (which perversely also has a movies section, a catch up UK tv section going back 7 days and a series section – UK, US and Netflix stuff). That’s £60 currently. He then has a VOD service which he says is like Netflix on steroids. As mentioned, the new Elvis film is on there. That’s £40. If you subscribe to both it’s currently £90. I’ve been on it for about a year and a half. He regularly runs offers and you can add an extra year to your sub at the time of the offer. I never throw too much credit in as there is a risk of being shut down. but I’ve got over a year currently I think? The Cinema service is just free for anyone to use.

When I get your e-mail addy, I’ll talk you through allowing developer options on the firestick and setting Cinema up on it. I’ll also shoot you the codes for downloading both the Apps. I’m not sure what to suggest for timing of your trial. NFL Pass isn’t on there yet – it will only be on when games go live so you can’t road-test it now, but almost everything else is. He also does a good deal on Black Friday, but that’s half way through the NFL season. NFL Network is on there as are all ESPN channels – not even sure which network is carrying which games this year?

    Any more questions, ask away.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’ve sent Mike my email to get it to you. I’m only interested in the NFL games. I’ve hacked a firestick before, so that shouldn’t be too difficult to follow. As a matter of fact, I may still have the old firestick I hacked…

I don’t mind throwing some money at this method it to check it out even if it ends up not being the best option for me.

      Cheers 🙂

wow that guy has just had one injury after another. Tough start to a career. I wonder if he’s just too heavy for his joints to support him in athletic maneuvers.
