Preseason Game 2 – Raiders at Dolphins

Game 1 of the 2022 preseason was different than I expected. I definitely didn’t expect to see Skylar Thompson the entire game and I also didn’t expect that the majority of starters for both teams would held out, but that was the arrangement the 2 teams made, or at least I believe that’s the case. Being that there are only THREE preseason games as opposed to FOUR (due to the new CBA), this will probably be the dress rehearsal game, as preseason game 3 used to be. We did get to see some starters on the O-line last week and I thought the guys looked pretty good overall. Yes, they were going against Tampa’s second string and sometimes 3rd string, but in preseason, those guys are busting their ass to make a name for themselves and trying to earn a roster spot, so the fact that none of our O-line guys struggled is a good thing. Skylar Thompson did everything he could to try and make the roster, and I think it may end up being a tough decision in the end. Tua hasn’t proved he can play an entire season and stay healthy, and Teddy Bridgewater is obviously more accomplished, but Teddy B is on a 1YR contract and putting Skylar Thompson on the PS leaves his open to be snatched by another NFL team. Hard to say the Dolphins are going to the Superbowl with Tua, can they get there with Teddy Bridgewater?

We had some guys show up nice in game 1 on defense, namely LB Cameron Goode, LB Duke Riley, and LB Sam Eguavoen who had an INT. The secondary was pretty ineffective, as both Gabbert and Trask shredded the Dolphins defensive backs. Noah Igbinoghene did not have a good outing and it’s getting less likely each week that Iggy finds his way onto the roster. The Dolphins did sign veteran CB Mackensie Alexander, former 2nd RD pick in 2016 by the Minnesota Vikings. If Byron Jones is fully healthy, Alexander will be competing for the 3rd CB spot with one of my favorites, Nik Needham. At worst he’s a fine depth guy who despite not starting a ton of games (25 in 4 seasons), he’s done it and has enough game experience. I’m holding out hope that Byron Jones can be healthy and start the season playing, rather than on the PUP.

We’ll get to see Tyreek Hill and Waddle on the field together in a game for the first time. That’s exciting! I would like to see the O-line keep up the good work they started last week. No other unit on this team concerns me more. Getting reps together and playing well will give these guys confidence going into the regular season so I’d love to see them succeed. I still think we have a lot of talent on the O-line, namely Austin Jackson and Liam Eichenberg. Terron Armstead, Connor Williams and Robert Hunt have already established themselves. One shout out, OG Solomon Kindley had a very strong game against the Bucs. That’s great news because he’s a real mauler, and the fact he played well in this blocking scheme is great for us because he’ll give us some nice depth. Anyone who’s seen this kid in the run game remembers how nasty he is.

On the defensive side, the secondary is the unit to watch. To be honest, it’s the D-line and LB’s that I want to watch, but we’ll see if Mackensie Alexander gets some reps and how he fares in our defensive scheme. I have a lot of confidence in our defense, but the Raiders did some shopping in the offseason too, and now they Davante Adams and our own pal Mack Hollins, along with one of the peskiest slot receivers in the game, Hunter Renfrow. Not sure how much those guys play, but Adams and Renfrow are a handful! Oh, and they happen to have one of the best receiving TE’s in the game in Darrren Waller. The Raiders defense is no joke either, they have the talented DE Maxx Crosby along with newly added Chandler Jones. Our O-line has a tough task against these, and will provide a stout test. Not sure how much Josh Jacobs plays but he’s a load, and rookie Zamir White is a tough runner as well, I know some of us were hoping he’d land here. The score of the game and who wins is unimportant, but how we get there tells the story. Hoping we play strong and remain healthy!

I’ll just chime in for one thing.

If you can’t afford college go to work, join a Union, learn a trade!
Don’t go to college for Gender Studies, ETC, ETC!

If you can’t earn enough money to pay off your loan, give me a call. everyone is hiring all crafts around here!

      Agree 💯

    • Tim Knight says:

Bingo! People always have to build and maintenance stuff. When I hear cashiers are being replaced with machines I always say right… now we have someone who designs them, promotes them, makes the parts, assembles them, delivers them and sets them up. That’s a lot of jobs.

Entrepreneurs through innovation and technology will always beat social engineering at the end of the day. But there are always bumps in the road.

For me, this is just the latest thing where working, doing all the responsible things gets you paying for others who don’t. I remember when I was younger, girls would get pregnant, have babies, they’d get an apartment, a check, food stamps(yes a long time ago). The more babies you had, the more you received. I thought then, someone ought to be giving girls checks to NOT have babies. But what do I know?

    • herdfan says:

      Sigh….bad page turn….😖

    • Mike E. says:

Yes, instead of teaching responsibility, don’t have kids if you can’t pay for them, we reward them with additional funding for each child they have.

    • Tim Knight says:

You’re right. It’s social engineering from people who are not qualified. I’m not sure the land of the free should be controlled by narcissists who don’t produce anything. But that’s just me. 😉

    • bailbondmike says:

I had a mother sitting in front of me signing on her one daughter’s bond she sold the daughter’s food stamps by buying $150 in groceries for $100 cash in return to pay the bond fee. Her other daughter (18yo) was sitting with her and was surprised the mother got $100 for the food stamps. The mother literally told her 18yo daughter she should get pregnant so she can get government assistance. This was about a year ago. SMH

    Practice today:

Cornerback Kader Kohou intercepted Carson Strong during seven-on-seven. If you’ve ever been to an NFL practice, you know how rare it is for the defense get takeaways in those sessions. He also leaped for a pass breakup on a deep ball shot from Gardner Minshew to Deon Cain.

    • Tim Knight says:

Byron Jones and X are seasoned vets. If Needam is good to go we’ve got three. Some teams don’t have one good corner or only one.

I’m excited to see this defense that has been built for 4 years take that next step.

      • Tim Knight says:

Holland, Br. Jones and Rowe at Safety. Let’s see which young bucks win a spot on the 53, at least for now.

  6. naplesfan2010 says:

I TOTALLY agree that we should NOT be teaching young people that the government will pay for anything they want.
I think there is a group of people out there who game the system with pregnancies, fake disabilities, and overstated need for “rehab” or other medical care.
I think I need to not post for a while til I get off the gabapentin.

I hesitate to post this, as I know nothing of the veracity of it, but it smacks of a lot of noses in a lot of troughs on both sides of the divide that shouldn’t be (just like over here) and it sickens ordinary working people.

McDaniel recently praised Tua for the extra work he’s putting into his craft. This implies that, previously, he wasn’t.

That makes no sense and doesn’t imply he wasn’t putting in the work last year, unless MM was the coach last year

  18. steveccnv says:

Per Mike Garafolo, some of the affected players believe it’s food poisoning rather than a mere bug. However, the Dolphins have been unable to identify any common thread between what the affected players have eaten, so they are confident in their belief that it’s a bug, and canceled practice in order to stop the spread.

Many (people) were increasingly of the opinion that they’d all made a big mistake coming down from the trees in the first place, and some said that even the trees had been a bad move, and that no-one should ever have left the oceans

      • ukfinfan says:

LOL. Did you see an NFLPass folder has been added to Plat with links to all PS games. Links usually only work in real time during games (maybe a bit before hand).

  30. CavalierKong says:

UK, thanks for the update. I didn’t notice that, but I’ll definitely check it out tonight for Packers/ Chiefs.

I just got NFL+ as well, so I get the preseason games on that too.

I did go through the Platinum service and confirmed all the out of market CBS channels seem to work…except for the Miami station- there were issues with that station doing a weird loop repeat thing that makes it unwatchable (of course it’s only the Miami one, lol), but ultimately that doesn’t matter as all I care about is getting the regular season games which I know will be available on multiple streams.

Also, thanks for the tip about the long hold to save favorites, that will be a big time saver.

So far I’m happy with the service. I bought a firestick ethernet coupler to wire it in instead of using wifi and it makes a huge difference; I’m getting close to 100 Mbps instead of 10 Mbps. That stops all the buffering issues.

As an extra bonus I found to be worth the price of admission all by itself, the new Google play security measures enacted a couple months ago make it where if I’m streaming Amazon plus through my TV and using that menu, I can’t purchase movies or shows in-menu, I have to use my ‘puter- total pain in the a$$. But I discovered streaming it through the firestick I have my full menu functionality again, which I absolutely love.

So I’m a happy camper all the way around. The real test of Platinum itself will come 09/11/22 though- can’t wait 🙂

    • herdfan says:

I’m following this… as soon as I’m completely moved I want to try this. I’m probably going to need help/detailed instructions. 🤓

      • ukfinfan says:

No probs Herd. I’ve already done all the mails to Kong – will just need to do a copy/paste 4u. You’ll have to liaise with Kong about paying though – it’s bank transfer or Paypal and it’s in GBP

      • CavalierKong says:

When you’re ready to move forward, I’ll be happy to help too. There were a few technical things to work through, then the bank transfer for the service took some trial and error but I got it figured out (I couldn’t get Pay Pal to work for this payment even using the international payment options).

    • ukfinfan says:

Sometimes refreshing channels and clearing cache gets rid of the loop. You can also change player which can work too – right click on channel with Firestick remote until you get to the end icon. If it doesn’t work, just change back. Also, the maintenance I sent you by e-mail is worth doing (switch off router and firestick for 5 mins and re-pair them).
Will bear the firestick ethernet coupler in mind. I’m getting about 60 megs wifi currently and they are threatening to go fibre to individual houses instead of just to the communal cabinet which will also speed things up. I think as long as you are >20 megs you can get 4k films, tv etc.
Glad you are a happy camper – looking forward to RS1 too. Now I can log on through my phone to here, I can blog in game as long as the stream isn’t too far behind. They can be though so be warned. Bad timing for me vacation-wise – I’ll be on Mykonos for RS2-4 and travelling both bookend Sundays so may only see RS3, but the good thing about the Firestick is it’s portable. Have to say I’m not expecting a TV with an HDMI connection there, but I’ll have my laptop as back up.

      • CavalierKong says:

I tried clearing the cache, didn’t help. I’m not sure I follow about switching the player, but when I get home I’ll mess with it and maybe that’ll become apparent.

I’ll be taking my firestick to Hawaii for the Niners and Chargers games 😎

    • ukfinfan says:

FWIW, I never saw ‘IT’ in Alex Leatherwood at Alabama. I was genuinely surprised the Raiders took him in the 1st round. Could he become a reclamation project? Sure! But only if he’s cut… I wouldn’t trade for him at all.

    ——————–
Yeah, I did this one trying to add to OL with top prospects and add a good TE prospect since Gesicki will be a ?.

I traded down to get an extra pick (no thanks to Mr. Ross) so I could also get that compliment to Phillips but kept missing and would have to reach. The guy I did pick in the 7th is an interesting one. Very athletic but more of an OLB/standup edge as he is a little light.

After that it was MJ and the Chicago Bulls. Been a Bulls fan since I lived in northern Indiana 1977 to 1982 (also when I became a Reds fan). My Cub fandom came a few years later in 1980 when my uncle took me to a few games and we ran around Wriggly stealing beers.

Has t heard Much about this yet… hope it’s mostly precautionary

Jaylen Waddle has apparently missed a decent amount of time over the past few weeks in practice with an undisclosed right leg injury, something CBS Fantasy’s Dave Richard noted in his visit to a Dolphins-Eagles joint practice Wednesday.
Waddle had his leg wrapped and was limited to stretching on the side, and coach Mike McDaniel acknowledged that they are being cautious with Waddle to prevent a further injury. Waddle has been sidelined for a couple of weeks with the injury, and while all indications at this point are that the injury isn’t considered serious, it’s something to keep an eye on over the next few weeks.
McDaniel is a new head coach, and we don’t quite know what to expect from him – is he a Pete Carroll type, who is always overwhelmingly optimistic, to the point where you don’t actually know whether to take anything he says at face value? He had plenty of praise for Waddle, as you can read in Dave’s piece from practice, which also noted that new Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill was “uncoverable, constantly shaking loose from coverage when he cut and speeding past defenders on downfield routes.”
Hill is still being drafted as a top-12 WR while Waddle is more of a WR2 coming off an excellent rookie season, but there are concerns about both – Jamey Eisenberg had Waddle as a bust pick even before this injury. The injury certainly doesn’t help his chances, even if it isn’t a serious issue at this point.

    • Tim Knight says:

Waddle might be ready to play in games but why fuck with it in joint practices and PS games. We all know he’s a core guy. If he plays week 1 nobody cares. 😉

      • steveccnv says:

Or there may be more to the injury, which seems unlikely due to the fact that he has been on the field this week for warm-ups and other non contact stuff

I get this guy’s concern, but instead of comparing him to Carroll, which is making something out of nothing, why not compare the Waddle injury to other Fins players, that have been nicked up

I haven’t heard of MM under selling other injuries, so why would he be doing that with Waddle?

  53. steveccnv says:

Waddle isn’t a concern at this time, it’s Jones, if he can’t go we better hope Crossen or Kohou can hold their own
