Game 1 of the 2022 preseason was different than I expected. I definitely didn’t expect to see Skylar Thompson the entire game and I also didn’t expect that the majority of starters for both teams would held out, but that was the arrangement the 2 teams made, or at least I believe that’s the case. Being that there are only THREE preseason games as opposed to FOUR (due to the new CBA), this will probably be the dress rehearsal game, as preseason game 3 used to be. We did get to see some starters on the O-line last week and I thought the guys looked pretty good overall. Yes, they were going against Tampa’s second string and sometimes 3rd string, but in preseason, those guys are busting their ass to make a name for themselves and trying to earn a roster spot, so the fact that none of our O-line guys struggled is a good thing. Skylar Thompson did everything he could to try and make the roster, and I think it may end up being a tough decision in the end. Tua hasn’t proved he can play an entire season and stay healthy, and Teddy Bridgewater is obviously more accomplished, but Teddy B is on a 1YR contract and putting Skylar Thompson on the PS leaves his open to be snatched by another NFL team. Hard to say the Dolphins are going to the Superbowl with Tua, can they get there with Teddy Bridgewater?
We had some guys show up nice in game 1 on defense, namely LB Cameron Goode, LB Duke Riley, and LB Sam Eguavoen who had an INT. The secondary was pretty ineffective, as both Gabbert and Trask shredded the Dolphins defensive backs. Noah Igbinoghene did not have a good outing and it’s getting less likely each week that Iggy finds his way onto the roster. The Dolphins did sign veteran CB Mackensie Alexander, former 2nd RD pick in 2016 by the Minnesota Vikings. If Byron Jones is fully healthy, Alexander will be competing for the 3rd CB spot with one of my favorites, Nik Needham. At worst he’s a fine depth guy who despite not starting a ton of games (25 in 4 seasons), he’s done it and has enough game experience. I’m holding out hope that Byron Jones can be healthy and start the season playing, rather than on the PUP.
We’ll get to see Tyreek Hill and Waddle on the field together in a game for the first time. That’s exciting! I would like to see the O-line keep up the good work they started last week. No other unit on this team concerns me more. Getting reps together and playing well will give these guys confidence going into the regular season so I’d love to see them succeed. I still think we have a lot of talent on the O-line, namely Austin Jackson and Liam Eichenberg. Terron Armstead, Connor Williams and Robert Hunt have already established themselves. One shout out, OG Solomon Kindley had a very strong game against the Bucs. That’s great news because he’s a real mauler, and the fact he played well in this blocking scheme is great for us because he’ll give us some nice depth. Anyone who’s seen this kid in the run game remembers how nasty he is.
On the defensive side, the secondary is the unit to watch. To be honest, it’s the D-line and LB’s that I want to watch, but we’ll see if Mackensie Alexander gets some reps and how he fares in our defensive scheme. I have a lot of confidence in our defense, but the Raiders did some shopping in the offseason too, and now they Davante Adams and our own pal Mack Hollins, along with one of the peskiest slot receivers in the game, Hunter Renfrow. Not sure how much those guys play, but Adams and Renfrow are a handful! Oh, and they happen to have one of the best receiving TE’s in the game in Darrren Waller. The Raiders defense is no joke either, they have the talented DE Maxx Crosby along with newly added Chandler Jones. Our O-line has a tough task against these, and will provide a stout test. Not sure how much Josh Jacobs plays but he’s a load, and rookie Zamir White is a tough runner as well, I know some of us were hoping he’d land here. The score of the game and who wins is unimportant, but how we get there tells the story. Hoping we play strong and remain healthy!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I hope the ruling is that Josh McDaniels gets punched in the face
Fingers crossed
He does have that look, like someone you want to do that to
Sounds like that whistle blew before the raider recovered it.
What happens when you throw a shitty pass behind receiver
Yep, after seeing replay
Gesicki only offensive player playing whole 1st half is telling.
Just don’t know what it is telling us. lol
Long sucks, Tanner out
Lucky its 9-6, even without the pickup 6
With our shitty OL we have the same problems we had last year running the ball, hope Armstead changes that
OD
I can’t do the negativity during the game!
Catch me tomorrow and we can critique the hell out of some shitty plays!
I’m excited to see Thompson in the 2nd half. I feel like it was only 3 or 4 of our guys that really fucked up our 1st half.
^
Same ones since start of camp, Iggy and Larnell
Raiders are hitting
The officials cannot call a play like that dead. That’s an example of changing the game. That could have been a Raiders TD.
That said Bridgewater makes me nervous. He looks too relaxed and not a guy trying to play with urgency. I want to see if Skyler Thompson can match him or play better in the 2nd half.
He’s a vet with nothing to play for, you can’t judge those types in PS
Also looks disinterested
He acted like he’s Lamar Jackson and he’s not. I didn’t like his body language. I was also a fan of us signing him as the backup.
Cheats rookie wr they were so high on got hurt last night, Tyquan Thorton
Saw that, shoulder, I think
Long sucks, Tanner out
——–
good point
I said Long sucked when we drafted him
That said Bridgewater makes me nervous. He looks too relaxed and not a guy trying to play with urgency. I want to see if Skyler Thompson can match him or play better in the 2nd half.
———–
I agree. Almost Brissett like.
Exactly what I was thinking, but he hasn’t been that in real games, so…
True
I know it is PS but still would like to see that sense of urgency
Hurt my shoulder today, need a massage, no rub and tug😁
Preston deep
KR
I said Long sucked when we drafted him
———-
I didn’t like the pick either. We passed on some much better players and it wasn’t a need or even a luxury pick
Too much dancing Ahmed
Good back shoulder but tough catch/good coverage
If Teddy don’t want to be out there, Grant him his wish
That series blew
Bring in Skyler!
Skylar 😉
Won’t beat out the vet with a punt like that
He’ll be part of the next 5 cut
Our depth at CB and OL worry me
I like this DT Stille
Pig is right cameraman is drunk
Why take the camera off the play before we see who made the tackle?
Is it important to see the huddle?
No call on a hand to face by OL
Was that Tindall, #51?
Yes it was
I want to see Munson lay someone out just so we can say, you know. lol
Nice play by Goode
Stille with the coverage sack
Damn, am I play by playing with myself. lol
Nah I’m switching between screens
We have not had one decent drive on offense yet
Teddy still in there
There’s our 1 run for game
What! A 10+ yard run
Teddy knew he missed that one
A Schlong sighting
Junk
Should have caught it
Gotta get those hands away from body
More junk
Teddy B a game manager
Alexander not in game shape
other than giving guys the chance to show enough to get signed to a tea, I can’t see much use for preseason
I can see reducing to 2 PS games and just have that extra week with just a joint practice
11 rushes for 20 yards so far
take away that 12 yard run and it’s 10 rushes for 8 yards
Thompson time. Would love to see the rook have another good showing.
EZ!!!
Skylar got lucky
Skylar got blown up as soon as he released it though and couldn’t step into it really.
true
Gaskin is a good back if you give him blocking
Preston says not so fast
Offense seems to have more ‘pop’ when Skylar is in there.
Come on Preston keep it up
RB White missed the play call, had to call timeout
Teddy may not lose you a game, but certainly not capable of winning one
At least Brisket had a good game against Raiders last year, not sure Teddy has that in him
Skylar for QB2
The briskett sucks.
Skylar seems to have good command of the offense.
Bowden drop on a tough but catchable ball
Nifty run by White
With our OL we need a Skylar more than a Bridgewater
Dr White
Nice touch on that throw
Oh we are going to love the wheel this year!
Grier on the phone now trying to trade Teddy
GRIER SHOULD be on the phone looking for a job.
Why Ross keeps him around is a well kept secret.
🙂
I think it’s clear Thompson needs to be on the 53
AT 9:17 BBM notes Miami has 20 yards rushing in 12 attempts.
The worst part is no one on this board seems surprised.
My guess (since I haven’t seen a play) is that the O-Line’s protection for the QB’s is also less than stellar.
OUR QB’s and RB’s are gonna get killed while Ross and his FO do NOTHING!!
If we only had Singletary and Duke. LOL
I thought the pass protection was mostly good.
OD, you have followed football longer than all or most of us. You still use the PS to criticize our team? I would think you would understand the PS by now.
I’m going to say this and I don’t care what the consequences are. You never admit you’re wrong even when you’re clueless.
The reason is because it’s about Ross bashing. Do you even like the team anymore? Or is it more about hoping Ross is a failure as an owner and you can be dubbed as right?
Was that the AB?
Munson a step too slow again
Nice clock Garbers
We trail by a Teddy
I don’t want to watch any game this year with Teddy at QB
Perfect call to move yourself out of fg range
Carona?
👍
You’re in FG range and you throw a pass in the backfield for a 5 yard loss, I don’t get it
Was like the screen to Waddle for a safety last year
Go for it
I said b4 kick he’s going to miss
It’s easier to get a 1st down than stop Raiders, bad decision
OH Fuck! A Sanders doink
Live by the Doink, Die by the Doink! 😉
lol
Well that was anticlimactic
You get done in the PS what you can’t do in TC. Physical football shape. Sanders and Ezukanma can play.
Erik Ezukanma – 6 rec for 114
Liked is release off the line on the slant catch before the FG attempt at the end there.
^
Skylar making noise to be #2.
Teddy looked sloppy and almost disinterested or resigned to his fate or something.
Skylar 9-10 for 129 1 TD
and that was a concentration drop by the WR
^ Bowden
And there were a number of higher difficulty throws in there
I thought the team rushed the FG there at the end. Why rush? i thought they messed up his cadence. Learn now, so we don’t blow a real game later.
I’m with Steve, though. I’d’ve gone for the first instead of kicking it.
I agree. Screw it, you know Sanders can kick already
Did you see the footwork by White after he caught that pass?
That was nifty.
He did that on his 1 rush attempt to manage 4 yard gain instead of a loss.
I even used the word nifty when I mentioned it. lol
I think they will be trying hard to trade Preston this week maybe even Bowden.
yeah Preston is too gangly to be a PR.
I so agree with you guys up the page. Josh McDaniels has that same look Brady has where you just want to slap his face every time you see him.
Dude bbm cool I just scrolled back up to see we typed the same thing about White’s feet.
Here’s a beer!!
As long as it’s not some of that Coor’s shit Wyoming drinks 😉
I think Coors tastes too watered down.
Munson looks too slow to depend on. I like the guy, but Goode looks more like he’ll make a play for you.
I’d cut Quincy Wilson this week. He’s been beaten too often (I think he’s the one.)
When Bowden dropped that ball, I said cut him. The team needed a guy to make a play there, and it was there to be made.
Sanders dropped one, although the DB made a good stab at it, so he goes to the PS after that.
Tindall led team with 4 total tackles. Goode and Gustin second with 3 each.
Not that it matters as I don’t know how many snaps they played but they seem to be around the ball a lot.
Gustin is really mobile for such a big guy. I like his game.
and Stille plays like an animal when he gets in there. I like that. Though, he seems like he would be an off the bench guy and not one who could bring it the whole game like that.
Cracraft looked real good tonight. I wish we could keep him. He’s wily like Welker.
When Tindall hits a guy, the guy sorta splatters. I like that.
Munson looks too slow to depend on.
———————–
Yeah, he could be part of the next 5 to get Munsoned
I really hope McDaniel is learning a lot through these games.
I think he messed up the end of both games in very different ways.
OD
I think McDaniel held back massive parts of his run game.
Why?
… the thing is, we were playing Bellicheat’s little bitch tonight.
And next week the patsies* and raiduhz are having joint practices.
I think Mike McD sat Tyreek etc. and scaled back his rushing playbook so joshy-bear wouldn’t go run tell his uncle billy what the Dolphins do on offense.
It would not be ethical to do that , but Bill cheats, so …
Just imagine Josh giving Bill the high sign across the field whenever he lined his men up and ran a Dolphins formation, so Bill could break it down.
Then over a beer at the steakhouse that night, he could say, “isn’t it weird how when a team moves the DB to the flat when the TE shifts to the slot, certain teams always make the X the #1 read? Isn’t it Bill?”
or whatever far more complicated thing it might be that I don’t even know.
Good point
I hope Needham didn’t break anything in his hand. Looked like they were tugging on his finger to reset it.
We can’t afford him not to be ready in 3 weeks with Jones being a ?
Roster cut to 80 by 4pm Tuesday.
Rams already cut their 5 today after their game last night. I agree. Why wait unless you are trying to trade some players.
It will be really tough to trade after final cuts 30 August unless it is for a really low return (pick).
