Season begins in 9 days – Season Preview

Both Chris Grier and Mike McDaniel have done the preliminary work and have assembled the 53 man roster. The trade for one of the top WR’s in the NFL (Tyreek Hill) left the Dolphins quite short in the 2022 NFL Draft as we relinquished our 2022 1st RD, 2nd RD and 4th RD picks, as well as 2023 4th and 6th RD picks. The good news is that in addition to acquiring Tyreek Hill, 3rd RD pick LB Channing Tindall , 4th RD pick WR Erik Ezukanma and 7th RD pick QB Skylar Thompson have all made the 53, and 7th RD pick LB Cameron Goode was signed to the practice squad. There is a very different feel to this season, especially after seeing the offense erupt against the Eagle is PS game 3. Of course it’s just a preseason game, but it was the first glimpse of what can be accomplished with the talent we have and a scheme that can really open up this offense.

Now that I’ve commended both Grier and McDaniel, now the job rests firmly on the shoulders of Mike McDaniel. I can’t emphasize enough how important it was to bring back the entire defense intact, including the DC Josh Boyer, although I understand that many feel the defense was run by former HC Brian Flores. The significant point is that Boyer will continue with the same defensive scheme, with the same roster. One caveat is that CB Byron Jones will be absent for the first 4 games as he remains the PUP list, so CB Nik Needham will need to fill some big shoes for 4 games. Of course with Needham being thrust into the starting spot, the depth will move up as well, which means CB Noah Igbinoghene will be getting a lot more snaps, and will likely rotate with Needham inside and out. Iggy did not have a great preseason, but with injuries to Byron Jones and Trill Williams (IR), Iggy will have an opportunity to show his value. Igbinoghene, a former first RD pick is a very good athlete, but his cover skills haven’t really developed as the Dolphins have hoped. Iggy is still a young player, he’s 22 and was drafted as a raw talent at 20 years old, much like his draft mate LT Austin Jackson, who was also selected in the 1st RD of the 2020 draft.

While McDaniel assembled his staff, he brought in a lot of experienced coaches from around the NFL. His ego didn’t get in the way when he brought in former HC Darrell Bevell, and having continuity leaving the former DC Josh Boyer in place, allowing former OL coach Lemuel Jeanpierre, former RB coach Eric Studesville to continue in their jobs. Frank Smith our offensive coordinator has been an offensive coach for many years as an OC in college to OL Coach with the Saints and Tight Ends coach with the Bears and then holding Mike McDaniels post, running game coordinator with the Los Angeles Chargers in ’21. I really liked the way he put the staff together, and I also think Wes Welker is a great WR coach, as Welker spent his entire NFL career overachieving and learning the correct way, the best way to do things and perfecting them, and he can now impart this wisdom and attitude to all the talent we have at receiver. There are high expectations for this team, and Mike McDaniel as both architect and steward, will have a huge impact on how far this team goes.

With the 53 roster in place, let’s look at some surprises. If I told you 4 months ago the starting 5 WR’s on the Miami Dolphins would be Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Wadle, Cedrick Wilson Jr., Erik Ezunkanma and Trent Sherfield you’d probably laugh. Ezukanma, 4th RD draft pick this year showed he’s got the makeup of an NFL WR. He may not have the speed of Devante Parker, but he’s got the size and competitiveness that Parker has, and hopefully he’ll be a healthier, stouter version of Parker. Trent Sherfield is another bigger receiver who has not played as a receiver all that much, but is a ST’s guy who has played for the Niners in ’21 and the Arizona Cardinals for 3 seasons prior. The talent (and hopefully availability) of this WR corps should be considerable better than last year ( Waddle, Parker, Hollins Albert Wilson, Preston Williams and Jakeem Grant. Besides Waddle, you couldn’t on most of the other guys to play week in and week out with the exception of Mack Hollins, and then of course talent wise, it’s not close.

Will Mike McDaniel’s version of the Shanahan offense make our O-line into and average or better unit in ’22? That’s one of the biggest questions, and the answer may well determine how successful this team is this season. Terron Armstead is an excellent LT when healthy, top 5 in the NFL. LG Liam Eichenberg had his struggles last season, but I think he’s got the talent to get things right this season. Connor Williams from the Cowboys steps in at C and I think his presence and Armstead’s as well make Eichenberg a better player. Sometimes, your as good as the guy next to you. RG Robert Hunt returns and he was a bright spot on the O-line all season. Again, playing next to Williams will make him better, and then the line finishes with RT Austin Jackson. Some fans just hate this guy but he’s a young, raw, talented athlete. Like I previously mentioned, like CB Noah Igbinoghene, Jackson was a 20 YO draftee. This outside zone blocking scheme is a better fit for Jackson who is not a physical mauler. He has tons of athletic ability with good size and arm length and he should be a better player in this scheme.

On defense, the one concern I have is carrying only 5 trench guys, Ogbah, Wilkins, Davis, Sieler, and Jenkins. If everyone stays healthy, I like that Sieler gets more reps, he’s a heckuva player and could probably start on a bunch of other teams. We do have a lot of big LB’s that will move up on the line in speed rush packages like Melvin Ingram, Trey Flowers, Jalean Phillips, AVG etc. We’ll start the season with Baker and Roberts inside, and Phillips and either Ingram or AVG on the outside. I’m curious to see how ILB Channing Tindall progresses and if he can earn more playing time and steal some from both Roberts and Eguavoen. In addition to that, w/o Byron Jones, how will this secondary, which has long been a strength of this defense, handle the loss of Jones? Will Melvin Ingram and Trey Flowers, two new additions make an impact on this up and coming defense? The other big question for me are who are the returners? Is it Mostert, Waddle, Hill, Edmonds, and/or Igbinoghene? Most likely it will be combination of all of the above, using Hill in only certain circumstances to give the return game a jolt. We must keep Hill healthy because he’s such an important part of the offense.

I have to admit I’m surprised about the 4 RB’s on the roster. I was pretty sure either Sony Michel or ZaQuandre White would be in the RB stable, instead, 2 guys who just keep pushing are back, Myles Gaskin and Salvon Ahmed. Let me say that neither of these guys make things w/o space, and neither guy runs over defenders. What they both do well is given a crease and some space get going quickly, and both catch the ball very well. We’ve seen both play behind a poor O-line, both can definitely succeed with better O-line performance. Raheem Mostert who has had trouble staying healthy may be the lead back, he’s just super fast and is a HR threat every time he touches the ball. Chase Edmonds is a bit heavier version of Gaskin and Ahmed, who both top out at about 195, where Edmonds is about 210. None of the backs in our RB corps are or have been lead backs that carry the load for an entire season and Raheem Mostert has the highest season yardage total (2019 SF 49ers) at 772 yards on 137 carries for a special 5.6 YPC, with ZERO game starts. So what we have brought in is the prototype for a running game by committee approach. All of these guys are capable players but none are a Derrick Henry type or Ezekiel Elliott type who require a high volume of carries each and every game. There are benefits to this, you’re not relying on any one guy, and you can plug in any of these guys at any time. It will be interesting to watch!

That Kurt Warner analysis of Tua Rock put out is awesome.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I saw that earlier and was trying to find out what actually happened. If it was something idiotic like dropping a frozen Turkey into hot oil, or if it was more a bad luck kind of thing like a gas leak that caught fire.

“According to NFL.com, the accident involved a fryer, and Hamilton was hospitalized after burning himself with cooking oil.” — so frozen turkey still in play.

“It reminded me a lot of when Don Shula came in in 1970, and everything just turned around. That’s kind of the way coach McDaniel attacked. He’s turning everything around, and he’s making use of all those facilities, and I think he’s not as loud and he’s not going to holler as much as Shula did on the field, but in his own way, I think he makes his point. I just watched one practice, which is nothing. That’s just the little time I had there, but he impressed me as a guy that’s detail-orientated, and he’s got winning on his mind.”

It’s not my term. A good friend of mine since we were 14 years old coined it for me however many years ago. He was reading books on world history back then. He could teach anyone about history if they’re willing to listen.

I’ve been recently watching a show called Apocalypse WWI and that war was absolutely horrific and a complete waste of life for the power of a select few. It’s one of the worst periods in time in human history. That war created all the ideologies we have now.

That’s where pacifism, socialism and communism came from. People were looking for an option other than war and death. We also see how those original intentions also became new dictatorships. Transcript | Mike McDaniel’s Media Availability – September 1

Read the transcript from Head Coach Mike McDaniel’s press conference on Thursday, September 1, 2022.

(Something that tends to amuse fans happen today. So the Patriots have a history of signing Dolphins who have just been released before the teams play. It’s happening again with WR Lynn Bowden Jr. Does it put you at all at risk? Do you need to change any offensive play calls or signals in advance of the opener as a result?) – “I’m happy for Lynn. You know, it was one of the things that I was hoping for during camp, is you invest in each and every player, and then you have to let guys go, and that their sacrifice and effort is not lost on me. So I’m happy they go to other teams. I feel like that was a concern early in my career, considering that you can go online and buy almost every playbook that I’ve ever worked on. Yeah, I mean, unless he’s – no doesn’t concern me at all. I would assume that they were doing that because they had exposure to him, and not to get cryptic answers because if he has those answers, then I’m not that cryptic. (laughter)”

(Obviously the list of captains came out today. And one name that obviously is going to catch a lot of attention is QB Tua Tagovailoa. How important is it for your starting quarterback to be a captain? And does it sort of stamp that leadership role on a player when he is?) – “Well, absolutely. I firmly believe that – so captains represent the players, right? That’s the whole position so the way we approach it here is that the players vote for who they want to represent them as captain, and seeing how it was a it was a point system, and the resounding highest point winner was Tua; I think it says everything. I think that’s incredibly important. When it’s done with the right reasons with the right intent, and that was the only the only thing that I gave the players was like, ‘Who do you want, representing you, each and every game? Who do you want to wear the ‘C’, and understand what that ‘C ‘means on your jersey?’ And I think it speaks volumes on where he’s at with the team and their belief in him. Like all the captains that were voted, it’s a tremendous honor, especially in a situation where it’s 100 percent player-controlled, so all those captain award winners were bestowed that anointment by their peers, and I think that’s the greatest honor you can have in a team sport, especially the biggest team sport, which is professional football.”

(Noticed that there were six guys on that list who hadn’t been captains previously here. Curious the importance of maybe resetting the leaders here or resetting…?) – “Yeah, again – that’s news. There’s one or two guys I knew that weren’t. But again, it wasn’t even – I very much value – I’ve talked about at length; I very much value this whole dichotomy of how the organization works. And as a head coach, I’m here to serve the entire organization and to serve the players and coaches. The coaches are here to serve the players and it’s the players’ team. You empower them with that, understanding the magnitude and consequences of having responsibility. And then what you’re seeing is who the players believe are the leaders of the team. And I know one thing in an NFL organization, the most accountability occurs within the locker room, because there’s nowhere to hide. And there’s a lot of times that – I’m very aware that you know, I don’t necessarily get the exact face of each and every person, you know, I’m the boss. You treat bosses like you treat bosses, but there’s nowhere to hide in that locker room. So that what you’re seeing I’m not sure if it’s necessarily anything but a reflection of who the players deem the people they rely on the most on a day-in, day-out, week-in, week-out basis that reflects how they approach their job. And you’re really, really happy when you get a list of those vote tallies and they happen to be some of the players you’re relying on the most from a contribution standpoint. So that’s how I see it. I don’t really know how exactly it went down before. I just know what you guys are reading, what that means on game day. You’re seeing the representatives chosen by the players as to who are their leaders, and to me, there’s nothing more important than that.”

(What’s it say about S Jevon Holland to be voted as a captain at 22 years old in his second season?) – “I know it says that’s the makings of a special individual. The football world is in front of him. That is great news for the Miami Dolphins when there’s an alignment between talent, and respect. You can’t just get that by talent alone and it’s not a popularity contest. What you’re seeing is a guy that has gotten – he’s not a rookie anymore – and he’s approaching the game to be great. His expectations are to be great. He holds himself to a high standard, and shoot, you do that every day; your teammates are like – it blows my mind that he’s a second-year 22-year-old. It really does while also making me feel very old. Because that would put his birth in the 2000s. Like, what? I was graduating high school around then, but I think that it’s really cool to see. It didn’t surprise me at all, which is even something that is even better news because day-in, day-out, he – like I told the whole team today – what’s so cool about captains is they have to bring it every day. They don’t have a choice because if you choose to just go through the motions that day, you’re saying, ‘You know what, I want to I want to be on average, to mediocre to non-winning football team.’ And none of those guys are approaching their day-in day-out process with any of those expectations of mediocrity. They’re trying to be great and that trickles down to everyone else a lot better than a really cool speech from a coach.”

(I noticed that the way the locker room is arranged, the player groups aren’t separated by position. What do you like about that?) – “Man, I’m glad you brought that up. I’ve been waiting for you guys to have open locker room since it was like the first week that I was here. So there was and some of it has to do with productivity and stuff and historically the defense had kind of carried this team, but I had heard from – I get here that first week, and I’m interviewing coaches and players are coming through to introduce themselves. And I kept hearing this commonality with, okay, there was offense versus defense. And this just in, the win loss column is one team. So like that and then furthermore, I’m sitting here thinking about okay, well, if I want players to become as close as possible, to be as invested in each other as possible, why would I have guys that go to position meetings and sit right next to each other, then go to drill work – these are the guys they see all the time – so to facilitate, it was kind of the first action that I could take to facilitate a better team camaraderie, was you know what, let’s strategically put players within the locker room so that they’re – because you spend a lot of time there. Like you accumulate those hours over the course of a season and you should be sitting next to somebody that you’re not spending time with all day. And who knows what relationship virtues that facilitates. So that was that was one of the first decisions – right when I got the tour, I made a note. I didn’t tell Chris (Grier) because I hadn’t got the job yet, so like I wanted to hold that gold nugget. But then the second I got the job was like, all right, talked to Joe (Cimino) and we moved it around and I think it’s paid dividends.”

(At this moment, what’s your confidence level that WR Jaylen Waddle will be available for Week 1?) – “Very, very, very confident. I’m not sure what my scale is, but he’s taken, again, the whole time, been trying to be extremely proactive if we would have had a game – what is today, Thursday? If we had a game last Sunday, he would have played. If we would have had a game the Sunday before he probably would have played. He’s getting some reps in practice today. And again, that was a combination of just being proactive and cautious, as well as something that was an easy decision for me because, like I said before, he was one of the most impressive players on the entire team, regardless of position from coming back from the break and from the beginning of training camp. So I have felt very good about where his game was at and that the best thing that could serve him was rest. Extremely proactive, getting reps today, and very confident for not this Sunday, but the following.”

(With DB Keion Crossen, CB Kader Kohou and CB Noah Igbinoghene, is that going to be like an open competition during practice next week? Or can you share with us that one of those guys kind of gets first crack at that open position?) – “I think it’s important to – when competition is so close and fierce and you have quality young players, it’s twofold. I don’t think it benefits anybody to just bestow or crown because you have to earn that and that’s through games. They haven’t even been able to play a full game yet, as well as, it gives us versatility for matchups to – I talked to those guys and this is the case for a lot of the team – when you have a good amount of quality players and I think those guys are quality. I know the names don’t get you guys juiced up, but when you watch their play they get quality play out on the field. That gives you a little versatility to adjust to an opponent. So maybe you see something in particular that a player struggles with that this person excels at. So maybe this player plays a little bit more this game and then that rep count adjusts not because of poor quality of play, but because of that matchup, much like basketball in playoffs, certain people all of a sudden play more. And then there’s certain games that they don’t. That’s a commonality and I think that’s what we’re kind of afforded with having a nice little lump of quality young talent.”

(I wanted to ask you about your depth defensively on the edge especially after adding LB Trey Flowers, just how many things you can do with so many talented and veteran guys at the position?) – “The bottom line is, I don’t know why this hasn’t come up, but it’s by far in football, my favorite position is d-line and edge. Like I think they can be the most impactful players on the field outside of the quarterback because they dictate the terms the quarterback is able to play on and they establish the line of scrimmage. So I’m of the belief that you can’t have too many of those guys. I think the more quality guys you have, the fresher they can play, the more issues they give you offensively because now you’re preparing for six different pass rush moves instead of two that a particular player has, those type of things, and then they can play fresher during the game and it’s just such an incredibly important position that I’m all for that. If I could go and use – I mean, you’d have to talk me out of not trying to pitch to Chris (Grier) to draft a defensive lineman or edge every year because it’s that valuable. And those guys you know, they really are so impactful in both phases. You’re talking about the run game and the pass game that there’s not a down that they can’t really impact the game and that’s what makes that position unique and special to me.”

Krishna, the points he makes are valid but Tua has not been treated all that well by Flores and the subpar coaching staff. As for the OL, just accept it was extremely bad.

All that said, it IS up to Tua to take his game up to a higher level this year.

I think he will quite easily.

I still think make or break this year is BS, we haven’t heard it from MM, just the smoke blowing media

With Skylar in the fold I think it gives Tua competition for the short term, but a longer leash long term, because I don’t see us drafting a qb next year

Tua will look better this year just, because the team will be better, but don’t expect a drastic Josh Allen 3rd year leap

He’ll grow with experience and help, and we’ll still hear the same noise in the media, even with a playoff win

Mac, on the other hand will regress, but will get a free media pass

I’ve decided to spill the beans prematurely and tell what my Dolphins’ wager for the upcoming season will be.
    ———–
FIRST, it is my opinion that the Dolphins will win at least 9 games this season. That’s true even if Skylar has to start a few games because of an injury to Tua. Skylar’s superior foot speed and his ability to dodge oncoming defenders may be in play sooner than any of us want to admit, given the unknown quality of our offensive line.
    ———-
Two days ago a $200 bet on Miami to win at least 9 games this season would get you your $200 back PLUS $140, for a total of $340. That’s exactly the bet I made.
    ———-
MY PREDICTION for the Dolphins’ upcoming season is 9-7-1 and, possibly, a wildcard spot in the playoffs. More likely, though, 9-7-1 WON’T get you in the playoffs. ONE more win to 10-6-1 might get you the last playoff spot. But that team would be on the road for the opening playoff game AT THE #2 seeded team — a formula for a quick exit from said playoffs.
    ———
HOPEFULLY the Dolphins will have a MUCH BETTER SEASON than I’ve predicted for them. Hell, a run at another PERFECT SEASON would be just fine by me. IF I’M WRONG and the Dolphins make it to the next Super Bowl, I’d prefer my CROW with a lot of McIlhenny’s tabasco sauce on it!!!

  37. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Oh D. I am willing to bet that the Dolphins finish the season without a tie. Ties are so uncommon that I am willing to bet you 100 bucks but it does not happen.

    • randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

FUNNY, I’ve never had the urge to bet on a tie game.
      ————
However, since the NFL shortened overtime from 15 minutes of play to just 10 minutes (so they can show 5 more minutes of commercials), the chances of a tie game have gone up.
      ————
SORRY, Rock, you’ll have to find someone else to play this OT game with.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

All it takes is a field goal after the first drive of overtime in order to win Even if it is only 10 minutes I see they’re being less of a chance now as opposed to The old rules.

    5. Miami Dolphins (26.57)
    4. Carolina Panthers (26)

  69. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

OD, I’ll say this. The OL looks much more cohesive so far than we’ve seen in years. Maybe coaching has something to do with it.

When you play in shotgun most of the time you put yourself behind the 8 ball. The OL is always on their heels. We’re under center with much more movement now. Opponents don’t know if it’s a run or pass and we stretch the defense out as opposed to allowing them to attack the pocket/backfield. And we haven’t seen Armstead yet.

I’ve been calling for this type of offense since Tannehill and we never really implemented it. It’s a real thing now.

Benito Jones has been competing on this team for a few years now. Boyer and his staff know him pretty well. Maybe they feel he’s never really progressed past a certain point. He had 4 tackles toward the end of the 2018 season. Nothing the last 3 years. If he hasn’t bitten after 4 seasons, I’d rather have Benito or another rookie with potential.

I agree with what you are saying about Benito but I don’t get where they could see more in this guy.

  76. uwantwat's avatar uwantwat says:

Tim…Davis losing weight is a good thing IMO. Usually that means the movement will be even quicker with big men. Now that is a fit with the team’s aim of being extremely fast in all aspects.

Wow, season hasn’t started yet but we are already starting to get some respect nationally. This is from CBS article of the ceiling and floor for each team:

    Miami Dolphins (2021 record: 9-8)
    Ceiling: 12-5, win AFC East

This all comes down to how Tua Tagovailoa develops in Mike McDaniel’s offense. The Dolphins improved the offensive line and added Tyreek Hill to an already impressive wide receiver group with free agent signing Ced Wilson and Jaylen Waddle. Miami is going to be effective running the ball while also having a downfield passing game, but Tagovailoa is the key toward the Dolphins challenging the Bills for the division.

Miami is going to blitz heavily, helping a talented cornerback group with Byron Jones and Xavien Howard making plays. Emmanuel Ogbah and Christian Wilkins are also going to get to the quarterback.

The Dolphins have a talented roster, good enough to win the division. This all comes down to Tagovailoa making the next step in his development.

    Floor: 9-8, miss playoffs

There’s a lot of pressure on Tagovailoa to play at a high level — and he’ll have to throw the ball downfield in order for the Dolphins’ offense to take off. Miami’s offensive line is better, but will it be good enough to protect Tagovailoa consistently? Will Tagovailoa make the same mistakes he did when under duress last year?

Miami is good enough to be a playoff team, but the play of Tagovailoa is the difference between contending in the AFC and missing the playoffs entirely. The Dolphins went “all-in” for their quarterback. They’ll miss the playoffs if Tagovailoa doesn’t improve

    • randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

      INTERESTING STUFF, ROCK.
I notice your source relies on Byron Jones and Xavien Howard making plays. That’s NOT going to happen with Jones out the first 4 games. I believe it’s absolutely essential for Miami to win AT LEAST 2 of the first 4 games if they are going to contend for the AFC East crown. No Byron Jones and an O-Line that has yet to “SHOW ME” against a Top 10 NFL defense are both very troubling.

I LOVED watching the replay of the Eagle’s preseason game. But let’s get real. Most of those Philly defensive players were back-up players and/or players that got cut. The defenses our O-Line will see in the Buffalo and Baltimore games will be much tougher. And by the end of the first 4 games we’ll have a better handle on how much our current O-Line has progressed over last year’s version.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It wasn’t just the Eagles game. The OL looks different and much more competent this year. Not saying they won’t have struggles at times, but the scheme we run is helping them attack and not be on their heels all the time.

By the way, Woodley was a back-up QB at LSU during his college days.

  81. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

OD, I agree concerning the DL’s we will face. Pat’s may be average or a little above. Cincy DL can play a little stout also. We just need to avoid injuries and we will be competitive.

My concern with our D is can we keep our DL from getting worn out since we only have like 5 to rotate. I know we got our edge LB’s (mainly Phillips and Ingram) who will be part of that rotation.

My concern is that the Pats and Ravens really focused on improving their run games and TE passing game. We especially will need to be able to cover TE’s vs Ravens. They have Andrews and rookie Isaiah Likely, who I think will have big numbers this year. He is a good, all-around TE with superb receiving skills.

  82. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I just found out two relatives passed away today and there is nothing I can do about it. I cherish the times we spent together. We weren’t close but we met at family gatherings. Enjoy life!

      • randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

SO SORRY for your losses,Tim. As I get older I, too, cherish even the limited contact I had with some of my Canadian distant relatives. Those get togethers have even more meaning now than they did decades ago.

Thanks. It’s life as we get older. We all go through it.

You are right Tim – part of the cycle of life but it still hurts. When you are young, you think everyone will live forever. Then in mid-life, you get it. Condolences.

FL State – LSU game was a crazy ending.

JUST WHEN you thought NO GAME could have a crazier ending than yesterday’s North Carolina-App. State game (62 points in the 4th quarter) THIS FSU WIN OVER LSU actually topped yesterday’s game!!

      UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Speaking of crazy …… you would have thought evolution and the survival of the fittest would have eliminated stupidity. Nope – it’s still alive and kicking!

This is the first season I’ve been excited about in the last 15 years. This blog has a different vibe to it. There’s hope abounding through it.
Welcome it and cherish it while it lasts. There will always be disappointments with some games but right now…it’s good!

Since I always think/believe/hope the new season will be different, I keep coming back to “why is this season different?” LOL.

    1. First time HC again. Hmmm…MM is different and the transcript I put up (one of many of press conferences that speak to this point) comes across as real to me….no bullshit, awareness about people, what motivates them, how to talk and relate to them, and most important how to lead them….and that’s on top of his football mind and analytical skills.

    2. Our D is essentially intact from last year and it showed promise to be a great defense if it had showed up for a full season. There is no explanation for the second half of the season even if you want to use the “bad team and QBs” argument…they turned it around. MM made the executive decision to build on that, use the best part of what he inherited and make it better with limited resources. We can now enter the season guns loaded on D and hopefully pick up where we left off. Smart, imo.

    3. As much as the D was left alone, the O went through a major overhaul…I would say rebuild, not tear down…lol. There is a new scheme in town, though. One that relies on sound coaching, technique, and precision in its execution. What a concept…lol. I can’t remember a time in the last 20 years when I ever thought that before the season….The OL has sucked for years, I would have trashed the WR unit 3 years ago or more, we can’t even talk about a running game of years’ past. And, we have one of the most accurate passers in the league who people insist on comparing to Brady and Rodgers, HOF QBs…lol. He has a supporting cast from the coach on down…what a fucking concept…lmao. Flores was an asshole when it came to the O side of the ball, fucking clueless.

And, finally, the teardown/demolition and subsequent 3yr rebuild entering the 4th year is primed to succeed. A job well done by Grier, in my opinion.

    Let the games begin….I’m excited!

    Please Show Me….lol!

I’m not sure the NE acclimation plan is going to work; if anything, I think it will backfire. Why?

I was there two weeks ago on a Friday evening and a Saturday morning….I was drenched both days from the humidity. I was actually made fun of, ‘oh the Texan can’t take the heat.’

I laughed back and countered, I can take the heat (we had 50 plus days of 100 degree temps this year), it’s the humidity, it’s like being in a swamp…lol. I doubt the physiological changes required to adapt/adjust to the humidity can be accomplished from a Tuesday to a Sunday. It may even be counter-productive to try and practice/scheme against the Dolphins while wiping sweat from your eyes…lol.

    Just a thought.

I don’t think a few days is nearly enough to change a human body so that it can cope with a radially different environment.
The humidity is draining to a person’s energy. It might sap some spunk out of the patsies to suddenly be forced to live and work out in football gear in that zero feet above sea level pressure.

      from NBC NEWS:
      Health Risks of High Humidity
High humidity can have a number of adverse effects on the human body. It can contribute to feelings of low energy and lethargy. In addition, high humidity can cause hyperthermia — over-heating as a result of your body’s inability to effectively let out heat.Aug 12, 2016

It’s Not Just the Heat, It Really Is the Humidity: Know the Risks

I think bellicheat might get somebody killed.
At the very least it should backfire on him.

All you good folks coming from other ecosystems to our Fest game also need to take note of this.
In games at Miami, it is not uncommon to see people sprawled out and quiet, barely conscious, barely able to cheer, with unfocused attention in their eyes, especially among fans of the visiting team who have traveled far. Of course alcohol consumption dehydrates the body so that just makes it worse.

High relative humidity is defined as when the air has reached its maximum water saturation, so that it will not absorb standing water.

This defeats the body’s cooling mechanism, which mainly is sweating, because sweating only works if the sweat can evaporate, as that is how it works to cool us down.

If the body is over heated for several days by high temps and exercise, and it can’t cool down by sweat evaporation, it invokes other more drastic measures.

These are mainly altering the rate and depth of blood circulation, and increased respiration. These are all measures the body will take in an effort to cool itself down, but they are literally deadly when combined with strenuous physical exercise.

The blood becomes thicker due to dehydration with the body trying so hard unsuccessfully to cool down which raises blood pressure, also dangerous during physical exertion.

However long this stressor lasts is how long it will take to resolve (approximately).
If you are dehydrated for a day, you can’t go home and drink a couple cokes and get back to normal in one hour, because the body’s needs continue, making the deficit hard to overcome in a short term.

This results in a domino effect on the electrolytes that are necessary for all the body’s chemical processes.

Now the person is thrown into chemical imbalance, not just feeling hot. Some of the molecules are depleted due to excretion in sweat, and some become super saturated in the body as they are less diluted.

The blood becomes “muddy,” and enzymes and metabolic processes fail.

This can cause entire organ systems to shut down, the heart will add flutter beats to try to move the heavier blood, and the brain and senses will fail to report accurately.

This is known as heat stroke and can be fatal.

I would think it would be better for NE players to stay in Boston till Saturday night and arrive as fresh and hydrated as possible.
