The Buffalo Bills lost a heartbreaker of a game on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. With guys from the practice squad playing meaningful snaps, the sheer number of things that had to go wrong for the Dolphins to have a chance in this game was mind-boggling.
Here are my takeaways.
Beat by the heat
The Bills lost several starters during the game due to heat-related illnesses and there were multiple instances of Buffalo’s players cramping or feeling the heat. The trainers were quick with the water, and Buffalo had folks providing shade on their sun-bathed sidelines, but they weren’t able to keep the players in the game. Isaiah McKenzie and Dawson Knox went to the locker room for IV fluids in the second half. Stefon Diggs left the game with 8 minutes left and tried gutting it out, but was not effective down the stretch and kept taking himself out of the game. Spencer Brown went to the locker room and was quickly ruled out in the first half with a heat-related illness. It was brutal to watch.
Tampa punter they say was roughed, negating a return to Tampa 32, replay shows he was held and pulled into the punter, after, re-kick GB gets ball on their own 32, then throws int and Tampa gets an FG
It never stops, the calls Brady gets when trailing

A couple of you guys mentioned it; I think it’s true, as weird as it is to say, our defense just outlasted and wore out their offense. I think Allen’s miss on 4th down was at least partly due to exhaustion.

In light of having 5 Defensive (STUDS!) starters ruled OUT, he chose to play a game of ball control, so as to keep the ball out of our Offense’s hands. Hence the TOP they had.
I think our defensive game plan was to keep everything in front, not give up big plays, and make them execute small ball the length of the field to score.
Still waiting for Jaelen Phillps’ balls to drop. He killed it in the second half of last season, but so far this year, he’s been a ‘nobody’ for the most part.
MY MANTRA is to arrive at the QB with only 4 rushers, without the blitz. Some may have noticed that even the announcers today stated when we arrived with 4 rushers against Josh Allen, without the blitz.
Actually, the butt punt worked in our favor because when morstead had room on the free kick, he boomed it instead of them getting it back about midfield.

Yes but…we hit Allen a lot. He definitely wore down. He never got comfortable in the pocket often throwing the ball quickly even when he had time because he didn’t want to stand in there and take hits.
And what’s with the Bills walking off the field and falling down for help near the sideline and stopping the clock for injury…dude you walked half way across the field but couldn’t walk 3 more yards…wtf was that?
I think there was a lot of gamesmanship happening to give their team extra breathers. not that guys weren’t cramping, but Diggs staying in the out of bounds area instead of moving a few more feet…
Yeah, they can’t do that for a player showing injury, lol. That is why the rule is in place that teams lose a time out, then when out of time outs get penalties when it’s under 2 minutes.
That stuff is laid out. There is no mechanism for the refs to stop them from doing that; what they were doing was within the rules.
The last possession was not a real possession and the possession on the fumble was only 6 yards. We really only had 3 normal offensive possessions in each half.
Bills had five 1st half possessions and only four 2nd half possessions.
It was a little unconventional, but we really limited the Buffalo opportunities by them having such long drives.
No doubt we would have preferred to have had better offensive possessions and not leave the defense on the field that long, but I think our defense absolutely intended to keep everything in front of them, not give up the big plays, and make the Bills play short and drive the length of the field.
The Bills offense is just so good, we couldn’t stop them until they got into the redzone.
I just mean we have complete control over making the playoffs. I 100% believe this team is a playoff team and that we won’t have to count wins and losses towards the end of the season hoping we can make the playoffs, so why would I worry about the Broncos?

We need to find a way to get pressure with 4 or 5 guys, our D-line and one of the LB’s occasionally.
But he really didn’t kill us on those blitzes. Yes he converted a lot of 3rd downs but no real chunk plays. I agree we need better TOP but I don’t fault the defensive game plan. We only gave up 2 TDs to the best offense and QB in the NFL
