Game saving plays. Other than the tackle Ingram made inbounds to run the clock out, that kickoff punt by Morstead was huge. It was a high booming kick of probably 60+ in the air.

That is what is bad about them outer bands. They dump a lot of rain and soften the ground before the winds come. Hard for some trees to stay rooted. Palm trees have a unique root base that anchors them very well. Pine trees have a deep anchor root, but the wood is weak, and they snap in 2 like a toothpick.

Thursday is a Trap Game, imo. Did some research on trends for TNF …

… these are just trends, and clearly are not 100%, but they are strong enough to consider this a Trap Game coming off a 3-0 start.

Road teams all time on TNF, straight up, win only 36% of the time …

but throw in variables that apply:
    1. both teams coming off a win
    2. intraconference, non-divisional, game (80% go to home team)

However, the glaring Trend is based on how many points are scored by either the road or home team:

    1. road team ‘magic number’ is 25 pts. Above that, since 2012, 85% win rate. Below the 25 pts has been a disastrous 17% win rate.

    2. home team ‘magic number’ is 17 pts. Trend shows that under 17 pts the home team only wins 10% of the time. wow!

Again… just trends. Fins are 2-5 on TNF, but THIS is a different team. Coming off an exhausting win (emotionally and physically), TNF is going to be a BIG test of the ‘character’ that I believe many of us have seen ‘new’ from previous seasons.

Our Defense played a lot of minutes. Can they find the energy to hold Cincy under 17 pts.? Will Tua ‘muscle through’ and find enough big plays to get us over the 25 pt. magic number?

    Keys:
Def: Fins DL / pass rush … everybody gets to Burrow. We got to Allen, so maybe we make Burrow’s life hell.
Off: Obviously Tua playing, cuz these guys should be FRESH, and Cheetah will be seething to make a bigger impact.

  10. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

The biggest problem for the Dolphins is that their defense is getting rolled every week. Through three weeks, the Dolphins are surrendering an average of 413.7 yards per game, which is the second-most in the NFL. You can throw the ball on them, you can run the ball on them and the Bengals will likely do both. ”

I don’t know if you guys read my comments in game Sunday

But I was a little upset at the DB blitzes in the red zone

Mainly my issue was it was leaving singletary wide open underneath

    I think it worked though

Next thing you know Josh Allen is taking what the defense gives him, the Bills hold the ball for 40 minutes and score only 19 points

I don’t know if it was a strategy by Boyer to end up with that result, since our defense blitzes so much anyway, but in retrospect, it seems like they were willing to give up a lot of underneath stuff

I’m thinking we might do something similar on Thursday against the bengals who have a history of relying on big plays

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

It’s been my contention it was the plan all along to force the Bills into long drives by keeping everything underneath, hopefully force mistakes, and then tighten up in the redzone. Make them earn everything, which is what we did.

I think it was born out of the way the Ravens put up big numbers with big plays on us, and our coaches decided that wasn’t going to happen in this game. We missed on capitalizing on some mistakes- mostly dropped INTs- and came up just short on a few would-be drive ending plays that really could have pushed this game more in our favor TOP-wise, but it still worked and we still got the W.

If it wasn’t the plan, then they should say it was, lol. I’d be willing to bet nobody hold the Bills to less points (17) this season.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

You do what ever you have to against Allen

We’ve had like 2 home Thursday games in the last about 8 years, while the cheats have had like 1 last 8 years

While Ross was asking for road games to start the season, when the stadium was getting renovated, Belicheat was asking for home Thursday games

  31. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

As someone up above said, … “we wore out their OFFENSE.” We made their blockers work on NINETY plays. 18 and 20 play drives. They were so gassed by the end of each half that they mismanaged the clock from stumbling around in fatigue.

And the same for Josh Allen. At the end of the first half, he fumbled the snap and then threw a no-chance fake spike pass that was both dumb and crummy.

Then at the end of the game, he threw a catchable but very short pass to a guy who ran around like he was dizzy, did not get out of bounds, got caught from behind by a DE, and therefore between the two of them, they wasted all their remaining time.

What if Allen had thrown it into the dirt? 2-3 seconds lost and time for one more play and then an organized spike.

We know he can throw it into the dirt, because he did that on the goal line earlier. Again that was a tired stumble and a fatigue type throw.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

“And the same for Josh Allen. At the end of the first half, he fumbled the snap and then threw a no-chance fake spike pass that was both dumb and crummy.”

I was actually impressed that Allen knew that once the ball was fumbled, he wasn’t allowed to spike it, even if the announcers were clueless (including a former QB in Green).

Agree the throw was dumb because it was just a hair away from being a pick 6. He should have just kneeled.

I just have to say this again. I fucking love Mike McDaniel.

How often do we say things on this board, and when game time comes around, the coaching staff seems to be thinking entirely different things?

Case in point: Before the game, numerous Mobsters expressed concern about how our oline would hold up against their dline because they get pressure with their front 4 better than anyone in the league.

This isn’t secret information, it never is. But it will often happen that exactly what we were concerned about is what happens- such as the Bills dline wreaking havoc on our offensive possessions.

Then there is this from The Herald:

Not only has McDaniel extracted the most out of Tagovailoa and shown a boldness and creativity with his play-calling, but he made a very smart strategic decision on Sunday.

As ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky noted, “I loved Miami’s plan offensively. They went to a bunch of seven man protections, hard ball play action so at least Tua would have the time to go through his progressions and so that pinpoint accuracy can shine.

“I counted 11 times where they made sure they had seven guys blocking four guys on that defense. Weeks 1 through 2, Buffalo led the league in pressures and sacks (nine).”

On Sunday? The Bills had five pressures and one sack. “That’s great coaching to understand the likeliest way we lose this game is we allow Buffalo’s defensive line to dominate,” Orlovsky said. “They didn’t.”

Could not be more excited about how the team has looked, but we are still one play (pick among many against Balt) and a Josh Allen short hop from being 1-2.

But I’ll take 3-0. Now thinking we make the playoffs long as Tua stays healthy. The win column doesn’t analyze what’s in it.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

“I really do think a lot of this early success, is the way he’s being coached and the relationship that he has with the head coach. Because I think that was a huge sticking point and something that just was difficult for him in the first few years.

And I don’t want to speak for him. But I’m sure it’s evident to everybody the way that Mike McDaniel has come in and embraced Tua and made sure that he knows that he’s the guy and that he’s loved and that they’re on the same team, and trying to have success together. I think that’s been really helpful for his mentality.”

He said throwing with the back injury in the second half on Sunday against Buffalo “was pretty difficult,” more so with the long gaps between Dolphins possessions. “The back started to lock up.”

Besides Tagovailoa, eight other players would have been unable to practice Monday, had the Dolphins held one: tackle Terron Armstead (toe), tight end Cethan Carter (concussion), cornerback Xavien Howard (groin/glute), offensive lineman Robert Hunt (shin), linebacker Melvin Ingram (rest), safety Brandon Jones (chest), tight end Hunter Long (ankle) and wide receiver Jaylen Waddle (groin).

“They all know how important it is to have them operate,” McDaniel said. “We had guys in the training room in the facility after the game Sunday. I expect to see most if not all of them” on Thursday.

Brandon Jones said he plans to play.

“Gesicki played just 17 snaps in Sunday’s win over the Bills and caught just one pass for six yards. For the season, Gesicki has just six catches for 48 yards” and one spectacular TD catch plus nerdy celebration.

I get that the new scheme takes away from his snaps. Don’t get why having Hill and Waddle out there don’t mean balls to him when he is lined up.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Game situations. We only had 39 offensive plays. We were using max protect a lot and blocking isn’t Gesicki’s forte. But 17 snaps out of 39 isn’t so bad.

Naples and OD are going to catch it hard (y’all be safe and get out if they tell you), then Son.

  55. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

On bills first 3 drives, we blitzed 57% and he completed 88% and got 2 TDs.
After that we only blitzed 20% and yet he only hit 59% and no TDs, so great adjustment by Boyer .
But in Allen’s mind, we were still blitzing a lot because we lined up that way but backed out into coverage, so he was still going for short passes on hot reads.

  56. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

Thanks, Phel. Glad to see it sweep past you.

When we moved to Fort Myers, we moved 30 miles north but also 15 miles inland. Naples has a white sand front beach, while Ft Myers is more protected by barrier islands like Sanibel and Ft. MYERS BEACH.

They will catch hell but are 90% evacuated.

  57. naplesfan2010's avatar naplesfan2010 says:

I think we are still seeing a gradual implementation of the playbook.
It’s still year 1 and just 3 games done.

I also truly believe McDaniel is only using or revealing the plays he needs.
When he needed points in game 2 , you saw what Hill called Madden play calling.
    Incl. Gesicki.
We ran it in for 2 TDs against the Bills.
    We coasted over the patsies.
Hill was hardly used against bills except as a decoy to draw double teams.

One more indication of McDaniel’s ability to game plan.

I could not have said it any better, Naples. I agree with ya 100%.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Well said. We did what we had to do to win the game. It wasn’t easy but it worked. We can’t keep letting teams run 90 plays on us but not every offense are the Bills.

Our running game is also off to a slow start but that should be expected. Everyone who knows about the zone scheme we run says it takes awhile to get it rolling and we’ve had a lot of injuries on the OL so far, which seems to be a league wide problem.

I like how this team competes and adjusts though. It’s a sign of good coaching.

My son is going to a shelter, with the gf and 5 pets, so he’ll be fine, hope his trailer is too

My sister is in Daytona Beach, expected rain 15.59″, but she’s in a condo on beach 17th floor, so…

Last I saw was Venice thru Orlando to Daytona, but it keeps going further south

  62. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The D has given up a ton of yards, but just like the cheats Ds of the past, they always seem to getter done when it matters

If you can do that, stats don’t mean anything

Then one game they’ll actually catch some ints and blow someone out

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s the thing with our defense. We force the action based on what we do and that’s attack in all sorts of ways. We’re an opportunistic defense that relies on creating havoc, and like you said “Then one game they’ll actually catch some ints and blow someone out”. That’s how we play and we live and die by it.

  63. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Nothing McDaniel and his staff does on offense is predictable. The same with Boyer and his on defense. McDaniel likes deception and both sides of the ball uses it. Fun stuff!

I was HELL BENT on waiting out the flood of ’11 in my area (TS. Lee). Bought food, water, alcohol, cigs, and enough other things to last if worse came to worst… but it got worse than worst. Thankfully, my blood brother talked me out of it, and I ended up spending the next month living with him before the flood waters overcame my house.

At the end of it, I lost my house. Funny thing… when I came back to my house after the flood waters had receded, the second floor (where I was going to hold out) was inundated with (HUGE!) wolf spiders, mice, toads, and many other undesirable pests… happy I didn’t hold out there!

I can only speak to flooding and its devasting effects (post-hurricanes)… I cannot speak to hurricane winds pummeling a house. Just PLEASE, be safe, my friends.

    Be careful out there

I disagree with the guy about the injury. Watch the vid and he hits the ground hard on his tailbone / lower back before his head does bounce. When he went down after it looked like he got a spasm and went down. I think he did get his bell rung but also had his tailbone rung.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He probably had those white lights you get when you get dinged and his back was part of the nervous system as well. He finished the game. He never had a concussion.

  69. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I hit the ground like that while sledding in a disk and besides nearly losing control of my bowel I also had smasmotic control of my legs and my back tightened up like wet rawhide after.

    CANCEL THE HURRICANE PARTY!!
THE MIGHTY HURRICANE IAN has taken a sharp right turn and is headed for Florida’s east coast. I mean, it was like at one moment we are going to get CRUSHED by 150 MPH winds then DROWNED BY RECORD RAINFALL!
    ————
But, now, we’re looking at winds in the 50’s in Pasco County and less than half the rainfall that was predicted by the National Hurricane Center this morning. It will take the forecasters WEEKS to peel off all the egg that’s on their faces!!
    ———–
TRUTH IS the Euro forecast was much more accurate than were the U.S. hurricane track forecasts. BUT, the Euros didn’t exactly nail it, either. So, all this proves that hurricane forecasting is extraordinarily difficult, even by some of the world’s finest minds!! They’d have a better chance of predicting Miami would start the NFL season 3-0!!!

In the last 16 years, NFL teams are 2-106 when being out-gained by at least 275 yards. The two wins:

    2020 Dolphins vs Rams (Tua)
    2022 Dolphins vs Bills (Tua)
