I was watching other teams today and was surprised to see some teams would block the kicking team’s gunners. Great concept.

It was crazy, their returners would actually be able to return punts because they didn’t have 5 defenders there right when they catch the ball.

Coach McDaniel, ya damn near screwed us out of a win by not just kicking the FG on 4th down. Instead, ya went back-to-back to Chase Edmonds… who is demonstrably the 2020 version of Jordan Howard in terms of YPC with hands of brick.

  53. randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

STEVE and SON-OF-A-SON; We WON”T win those next 3 games if we play and coach like we did tonight!!

  54. jahndont's avatar jahndont says:

I feel like they picked on Iggy all night and he finally made em pay at the end. McDaniel has beaten Belichick, McDermott, Harbaugh, and Tomlin. No one is immune to constructive criticism but all coaches roll the dice on certain calls and the margins are tiny. He’s got my vote of confidence regardless of he guessed wrong on any particular call.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The only thing worse than the decision to go on 4th was the play call

I still believe in him, but he tested my patience tonight

      • jahndont's avatar jahndont says:

I mean, ya know how I feel about play call 2nd guessing but I know its gonna happen. And have done it myself.

With a coach as unorthodox as McDaniel he’s gonna be exposed a bunch. I just hope everything works out when it comes to making the playoffs.

When your defense is handling business it frees up the ability to take a risk. It’s not just about the odds of converting, it’s about the odds of winning vs losing which is heavily influenced by projecting what happens after you succeed or fail as well.

I’m extra on analytics but forgiving of mistakes.. I admit it.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Man, I feel SO GOOD for Iggy!!! He finally made a play that hopefully parlays into further confidence going forward. I hope this is just the beginning of Iggy’s transformation into a solid player.

      HELL YEAH!!!

    • randydolfan1947's avatar randydolfan1947 says:

WELL, JAHN, even after tonight’s fuck-up, Coach McDaniel is STILL the best head coach hired during the Steve Ross Era. I, too, wouldn’t fire him over this incident, but that doesn’t mean I’m happy about it, either. The art of being an NFL HEAD COACH usually is a LONG learning experience, even for the best coaches. You get to be a “best coach” if your successes far outnumber your fuck-ups!
      ———
Right now, Im keeping a little tally sheet on such issues. Hopefully the plus signs will vastly outnumber the minuses at season’s end.

      • jahndont's avatar jahndont says:

I feel ya. I think if I have promoted one belief on this blog its that I want to see talented young coaches get a chance to gain said experience. Short term pain for long term gain.

Not quite back on track, and may never be this year, but for this week we can feel like the season hasn’t completely derailed and we’re back in it

  69. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

With Tua starting we’re 17-9, with two losses he got hurt early in and couldn’t finish. We win with Tua most of the time. It is known. 🙂

  70. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Thank goodness we won that game. I’ve skewered Iggy on here many times, so it’s only right to give him his due; he seems to be progressing every week. With all of the injuries in the secondary, it would be incredible if he could finally realize his potential. I didn’t love going for it on fourth down in that situation- we had momentum carried over from the second half and should have kicked the FG to keep that going, glad the D stepped up and it didn’t cost us. Nice win for our beloved Dolphins to get back on track!

  71. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I know you can’t count them because they didn’t happen, but the Steelers could have potentially had a handful of turnovers against us. We got lucky. You need luck to win sometimes, so it’s cool with me. You can see we’re a different team with Tua.

  72. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

When Tua ran the ball, it was like he purposely wanted to make a statement to the rest of the NFL, media and his team. Like, “Fuck y’all, I ain’t scared.”

I was like dang Tua, don’t do that. lol

  73. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Man, the Dolphins really tried hard last night to give the Steelers a win! Tua had at least FOUR dropped interceptions. Our WR’s and RB’s could not catch the ones thrown their way.

The Roach closing out the game with an Int in the endzone was a surprise to me. I thought for sure they would get the TD to win once MM F’d up and went for it on 4th down instead of making it a two score game!

It’s a W and we can move on, but DAMN MAN!

Now we move on to 1-5 Detroit then 2-4 Bears.

  74. Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

  75. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The bias of the announcers last night was really pissing me off. They were actively rooting for the Steelers on air. Even though the Steelers trailed the entire game, they kept saying “if Miami can win” and stuff like “this should be enough for them to pull ahead” shit like that. Then on the Iggy int they were like “He didn’t get both feet down, not a catch!” “They are going to review it but it wasn’t a catch…”

    “wow, it WAS a catch”

F you you bastards! Collingsworth was awful

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

If they (Steelers) don’t win this game we can look back at that dropped int

Most of the drops weren’t easy catches, that’s why these guys play DB

  76. Wyoming85's avatar Wyoming85 says:

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

That’s a horseshit, canned answer, least he could’ve done was been honest or given us his thought process

Even though the situation didn’t dictate going for it I’m OK with him being aggressive in that situation, just don’t call an FN run up the middle, that just failed the previous play

MM failed the team last night with his poor play calling

  77. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

My confidence in MM and Tua have both taken a hit, expected more from both

Tua I give a pass to, because of what he’s been thru, MM not so much

Tua was great early even though he had to overcome Ozark Eichenberg ‘s eradic play

    https://www.google.com/search?q=ozark+ike&oq=ozark+ike&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i512j0i22i30l2j0i390l3.8480j0j7&client=ms-android-samsung-gs-rev1&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#imgrc=O6tbadevp78R0M

  78. Ken's avatar Ken says:

In the end we won. I didn’t mind Tua lowering his shoulder and fighting for yards. It means he is not gun shy which is what I was worried about. Also not as likely to be concussed that way as opposed to being blindsided or being thrown down

  79. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

After 1st qtr I thought we’d score 30+ … whatever, it’s great to have Tua back and get our first win in a month.

  80. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

Also, I REALLY loved seeing those old uniforms. Csonka with a cane is reminder of our mortality. When I think back to those days, or try to explain it to someone who wasn’t born yet, I always seem to start with Csonka. I had a Griese jersey, I pretended to be Warfield in street games, but Csonka’s presence on the field created opportunities for the rest of that offense.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

  82. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I didn’t realize Ogbah was out. That might explain the lack of pass rush we saw

We have a ton of injuries right now

  83. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

Tua was rusty and not his normal accurate self. Still won.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Agree, he looked, not on the same page with his receivers too often, then also looked like he was trying to avoid injury/contact at other times

We got the win while he got re-acclimated

  84. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

So we’re 4-3, have lots of injures, the OL isn’t the problem it was last year, guys like Shell and Little have stepped in admireably

Ogbah out hurt last night, Flowers on IR showed, others in front 7 also ailing, DBs out in droves, but if we can get Jones back at CB the D can be good enough

On O I have some issues with Wilson and am pissed MM hasn’t activated EZ yet because he’s not ready to play every WR position, I mean WTF is that, let him play 1 position and get acclimated as he learns the rest

Sherfield has been a good find

Gesicki I’m done with, we don’t have the luxury of carrying him for his 3 catches once in a while , his TDs have been good this year, but a 2 way TE to replace him will help all game

  85. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We won 1 game handily for our standards won 3 by skin of our teeth and lost 3 we could’ve won

We’re competitive week to week, need to clean it up on O and get better playcalling throughout

Bottomline is we can challenge for division or fall flat on our face, or as I expect somewhere in between, we really don’t know any more, than we did before week 1, except we aren’t really good or bad

That’s a thick, compact guy with a lot of muscle, not a wiry DB.
He’s 20 pounds heavier AND shorter than TUA.

  89. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think talking about Tua like he’s brittle bc of concussions shows a considerable amount of ignorance about concussions

It doesn’t matter if you are a 14 foot frost giant – if your 🧠 moves round your skull bc if the impact you take, you are gonna get concussed. Brains don’t get harder as people get bigger

Swinging a lighter guy around and slamming him with all your weight on his head is probably at risk behavior though – the nfl is obviously not looking at some of the WWE style tackles we keep seeing

  90. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Our defensive stats last night are all pretty good. Kept Pitt under 100 rushing yards total. Kept them to 5.8 yards per attempt. 3 ints. 2 sacks. A pretty solid defensive showing.

#Dolphins defense was on the field 30 snaps in the 4th quarter alone last night and Jaelan Phillips was out there for 26 of them

Look at the effort on this play to sprint across the field and tackle Pickett short of the sticks on third down

  97. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Collinsdorf last night kept talking about the missed ints by Pitt, we had a game Luke that earlier in the year against the Ravens I believe

    It happens

  98. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Some one should tell Collinsworth that this isn’t horseshoes –
You don’t get points for “almost”

Tua is throwing balls in tight windows, that’s going to lead to DBs getting their hands in the balls

Some of those “almost” interceptions would have taken incredible plays by the DBs to catch

The reality is he Steelers know they don’t move the ball downfield on offense and they are trying to make a big defensive play A kind of like us when Flores was our coach. So they are being pretty aggressive defensively in terms of
    Coverage

We were actually eating them up early in the game until they started to have their LBs get into passing lanes and cover guys

Between Myles Jack and Devin Bush they have very good
    Coverage LBs
