Before this 2022 NFL season began, the Miami Dolphins were very aggressive bringing in personnel that would potentially transform this team. Let’s be clear, bringing in WR Tyreek Hill most certainly transformed this team. No one here could have predicted how much of an impact Tyreek Hill could have. Even the most optimistic of us fans couldn’t have seen this coming. Our offense has become unstoppable at times, and if not for a multitude of penalties, we’d be scoring even more than we have. Yes, we all figured Hill could make Waddle more dangerous, but it still amazes me how easily Tyreek Hill gets open, and how quickly Tua finds him and gets him the ball. Oh, and Waddle is extremely dangerous. He’s nearly doubled his YPC average from 9.8 last season to 17.3. Halfway through the season he has 5 TD’s after logging 6 all of last season. I’d be remiss to not mention LT Terron Armstead. When he plays, and is healthy enough to play most of the snaps in a game, he’s terrific. He does his job so well, neutralizing the NFL’s best pass rushers and opening rushing lanes on the left side. We knew he’s somewhat of a health risk, and I think most of us figured he’d miss some time, but he was also a huge signing for our team. This brings me to my next point . . .
The Dolphins trading for LB Bradley Chubb was a huge move. Yes, we’ve already brought in LB’s Melvin Ingram and Trey Flowers, and hopefully those 2 still play a big role on our defense, but Bradley Chubb is a very talented player that is only 26 years old. He’s the type of player that in my mind should transform this defense. We already have a very talented young OLB in Jaelan Phillips. We’ve seen what he can do when someone on the other side is getting pressure, he was a difference maker in the second half of last season. Bradley Chubb should make that happen once again. If Emmanuel Ogbah can get himself healthy, our defense can be vaulted to being one of the better NFL defenses. A healthy front 7 of Wilkins, Davis, Ogbah, Phillips, Baker, Roberts and Chubb can be a great unit. If/when we get some our DB’s healthy, and whether that means Byron Jones or just having Kader Kohou and Keion Crossen and of course X totally healthy, our defense can be a unit that no one wants to play against. 1 player can make that transformation, which brings me to my next point . . .
I want to see lots and lots of Bradley Chubb this weekend. I don’t want to hear any nonsense such as it will take time to integrate him into our scheme. Don’t tell me that! I want him out there at least 75% of the defensive snaps. The few snaps that AVG and Ingram get they should be fired up and ready to make an impact. No assimilation, this is football, not thermodynamics or trying to balance the US national debt! Let the 26 YO kid give it everything he has and if he does, good things will happen!
I’ve said it on the blog already, I’m really excited we acquired Chubb. He hasn’t been a dominant player, and he was playing on a pretty good Denver defense. No player is perfect, but Chubb was a very highly rated prospect (7.4 which equated to a perennial All Pro), and there’s a reason for that. He’s a very capable player, but injuries have hampered his success. His rookie season was a great one, starting all 16 games and playing nearly 80% of the snaps on defense. He had 12 sacks, 21 QB hits, 2 FF’s, 1 FR and 60 combined tackles (41 solo). Since then, he’s yet to duplicate that success, but he had 2 seasons where he played only 4 and 7 games. Chubb already has 5.5 sacks and if he stays healthy, he should equal or surpass his rookie season in our defense. This team needs to have a different feel about it, a little swagger. Of course success would help, and last week’s second half shutout was great to see. The defense has to be hyped. It’s set up so nicely, if Trey Flowers (IR Oct. 19)) can get healthy, we’d have 2 excellent veteran pass rushers to put in the rotation in Melvin Ingram and Trey Flowers. That’s the stuff playoff and SB teams are made of. At this point of his career, you want Ingram used sparingly, and I believe he’ll be more effective. Let Phillips and Chubb handle 70-75% of the snaps and let the vets get the rest, and all should prosper. I want to see Chubb have the Hill effect on our defense!

You’re not first😝
I know I read the whole thing!
But this is all I remember. 😉
I want to see lots and lots of Chubb’s this weekend.

LOL
Not that there’s anything wrong with that😉
He hasn’t been a dominant player, and he was playing on a pretty good Denver defense.
You and I must have different definitions of dominant
What I saw of Denver’s D this year was a dominant D, that made Os have to work extremely hard to move the ball, I even posted that here after watching them play 3 games
Chubb was the main guy, that made that D so tough
Let’s see how they look going forward without him

Coach on Chubb and Wilson playing time – They’re gonna play. To what exact degree that depends on multiple variables. We started putting the game plan together before they were on the team. They’re both professionals, comfortable and ready for their roles within the plan.

We’re pretty unstoppable with the coin toss, Coach says. We don’t want to divulge too much on the process there. The Dolphins have lost just one coin toss this year, exhibition included.

Coach on Chubb and Wilson incorporating in: We wouldn’t have made either move if we weren’t operating with extreme conviction that they are the type of people that can fit into our locker room. It’s a sacred place that we don’t just let anybody jump in to.
He says all the right things, but pretty easy to believe and nothing to doubt
Like Wyo, my takeaway was a snippet of what reads remarkably like pillow talk between Mike and Mrs E.
“I’m really excited we acquired Chubb”
Oh and I enjoyed reading the article too. Not quite as gung-ho as Phel and Pigster the fighting hog. But then who is?
He’s pocketing $55m + decent roster bonus in 24 with a trap door after that.
This guy is right only about 33m is fully guaranteed
Another 20m fully guaranteed in March 2023
I’d be really disappointed in him, if he doesn’t get that guarantee
Looks like “Old Mrs H” isn’t cutting it anymore?

That’s good for depth, but he lost his starting job to Shell
20.6m average salary for Chubb with some outs, but if we don’t retain him for next year it would’ve cost 33m for 9 games, if they do then 53m becomes the full guarantee
We could then pay as little as 54m for 2 years plus 9 games and move on
Chubb should be a Fin thru 2027 season, with Phillips and Ogbah, we should have a very good 4 man passrush for a long time or Ogbah could be gone in 2024
Chubb 3.27 cap hit for this year, down from 7m, they moved his base down to 575k + signing bonus
We now have 5.5m in cap space

That write got me excited Mike E, but then had to remind myself that haven’t seen Chubb play a down yet and we didn’t exactly blow out two teams with pretty poor records in the last couple games.
Let’s see what happens.
Have we gotten past the use of Cover Zero?
Was it the defensive match to when we used the Wildcat
to beat NE back with Ronnie?
Was it just a gimmick?
I’m asking because it worked against Goff and the Rams, against Book and the Saints, and against Lamar Jackson. It should work against Fields and the Bears’ shaky coach.
But maybe we’ve “grown up” and don’t need it anymore.
Now that we have Chubb, maybe we go forward with a more conventional rush. Maybe we can get pressure with just rushing 4.
btw, This is a good game to have so as to integrate 2 new guys in.
We used a bunch of cover zero in the first half of lions game
And we stunk it up and switched to mostly cover 3 for 2nd half
I wouldn’t call it a gimmick, but maybe a little more help deep consistently would help our defense
Cover-0 requires 2 shutdown corners or at least pretty good ones, we haven’t had that this year, to use it effectively
2nd half against Detroit we changed it up more zone I believe
Once Byron is back we’ll be able to utilize it better
We may still see it from time to time on 3rd downs
Does anyone here think Byron Jones will play for us this season? Trey Flowers?
Byron seems to be taking the Fuller approach so who knows
Flowers news doesn’t seem to be out there, anything on him would be a shot in the dark
No I don’t see Jones playing this season. I thought Flowers has played for us this season

I was told Byron Jones would be ready by the season opener. And they really don’t seem to talk about his condition at this point. So your guess is as good as mine.
The problem with the cover zero is you have to get pressure, and you also need to have guys that can cover. We haven’t been consistent on either of those, so the scheme is only as effective as the players playing in it. Due to the secondary being decimated and the inability of our front 7 plus blitzers getting to the QB, failure is imminent

If you are in the 40 point club, you can eat all the bacon you want this weekend
Going forward, harness your bacon from this jerk
Ken – I know Flowers played, but he’s on IR now, since 10/19. He’ll be eligible in 2 weeks to come off the IR, not sure if he will or not though. I do think Byron Jones will play for us. It’s in both parties best interests if he can play.
I think Jones injury is lingering and he is not coming back
Piggy – Not sure what the 40 point club rule is but that rule applies every weekend in this house. lol
If you aren’t predicting 4o point offensive outputs, that better be turkey bacon
BTW – I hate defensive players wearing numbers #2 and #6. That new rule sucks pig farts!
It’s weird
Wouldn’t it be cool if they were 92 and 96
YES!!! Wait till QB’s start wearing numbers like 48, 95 or 88.

Chubb’s first Dolphins’ presser. He’s pretty cool. Calls McDaniel “quirky.” Not sure if would go that way as a player, but it’s true.
Seems like a humble guy.
What are your thoughts in this throw
Perfectly placed ball. NOT under-thrown
You can’t throw it any better than that
Yep, that’s why nobody cares except us. It doesn’t fit the narrative. Oh, and it was 3rd and forever at a key time in the game.
All right. All this hype talk and MikeE’s write up is making me a believer!
NICE SONG!!!
“He’ll add a lot to our team and what we like to do. There’s one issue I do have with him – well, he has with me. I went to Clemson. He went to NC State, and I’m part of the reason why he never got a win against Clemson, so there’s a little battle there. (laughter) But other than that, it’s cool. I’m excited about it. It’s a move that makes everyone who’s already here better and our defense better.”

Does anyone think we will see Chubb, Phillips and Ingram on the field at the same time on Sunday
Sure, maybe a couple of plays here and there
Maybe on long down and distance.
Jackson is on the 53 man roster. Someone may have mentioned this already, but that’s a good sign. That makes the depth better
Good write, Mike!
Thanks Tim
It’s pretty rare that you can acquire a talent like Chubb in-season. I really appreciate this team doing everything they can to try and win.

Wyoming: there are LOTS of ATV trails here. I recently was out, we had a guide that took us out on the ‘outlaw trails’. It was a blast. Thought we were stuck a few times, thought we would turn over, grabbed the ‘oh sh*t’ bar more than once. But we made it. Highly recommend. 😂
Bookman, Green was an in season pickup and wasn’t Keith Jackson also?
Yes Keith Jackson was a free agent though
I think he was one of the first free agents
I think we signed Jackson as FA.
Yes but it was during the season
There was some sort of change when he became a free agent or free agency became legal in the nfl or something weird

Our DC.
Smart dude, that was good. I haven’t been watching the OC and DC pressers as much lately. That was good, even the questions were good.
Here is the story
Jackson was a holdout in 1992
And a federal court granted free agency
And then the nfl started free agency

Oh please make it go away.
Thank god – I can’t take another text
Best thing I’ve read all day with the exception of a Bookman sighting.
I don’t know if you guys have to deal with this
But bc I have my own practice it means I have my own health insurance
And I read something about a window period to switch insurance
So I thought A hey maybe I can upgrade insurance or find a cheaper option or something
I just wanted to expire health ins options
So I googled health ins broker
And then I filled out some info with my name and number abs gave it to a service not realizing it was a free for all for texts and calls and emails and whatever
And since then my phone has been off the hook with telemarketer and salesmen trying to get me to sign on with them for insurance
It’s a nightmare – don’t ever do it
There is an open enrollment period for private health insurance right now, the calls will stop or at least slow down by your birthday.
That’s what o read
In meantime I guess I’m just gonna hang up on a lot of people

Replied to post above in wrong place.
For me, the most surprising thing about that graphic is that there are 7 teams in the league that allow less than 8.8 points 2nd half point per game.
A little under 30 hours. And counting …..
Everything this year is night and day versus pre-MM but the way our offence is created to mis-lead, bamboozle and create opportunities is a thing of beauty.

Terrible at his job. I love that he calls critics Tuanon because he can’t accept that he’s terrible at this. We definitely live in an age where people are sensitive while putting themselves out there for criticism. He asks for people to let him know, then cries when they do. Can’t explain that.
Is he serious or just trolling? Surely he can’t get it that wrong.

And that wasn’t easy.
Most games aren’t easy.
What is this new “Field Safety” position?
ppl saying Jevon now playing that,
to take over for Brandon Jones,
for whom McDaniel might’ve invented it.
From what I read about it the “Field Safety” covers the the wide side of the field, meaning covers more ground. The other safety covers the boundary which is determined by the formation on offense based on the hash marks.

Gesicki
Hunter Long????????
I picked up Likley in case 🙂

🙃
I’m not expecting much from Gesicki, but I’d rather root for him over Tyler Conklin or Evan Engram
LOL @ BBM – You know I think he’s just swell
An ILB to keep an eye on if he enters the draft is Junior ILB Cedric Gray, UNC. He is 6’2 230.
As a starter in last 20 games, he has 200 tackles, 1 sack, 3 FF, 4 INT’s. Today he had 16 tackles, 1 sack and 2 PD’s.
Uno Mas
Speaking of UNC, come college bowl time, next year and the year after, you are going to hear a lot about UNC true freshman QB Drake Maye.
He’s 6’4 220. In 9 games he has completed 71% of his passes for 2,964 yards with 31 TD’s and only 3 INT’s. He has also ran 114 times for 513 yards and 4 TD’s.
Generally speaking… I said GENERALLY speaking(! And over the course of the last 20 awful seasons!)… I’ve been able to get the position correct of who we’ll select in the next Draft a year early. And no, I’m certainly not alone, either. This process helps me to scout targets in real-time a year prior.
Wow! It’s not that we don’t have 1st rounder any longer after trading for Chubb, it’s that we don’t have many glaring weaknesses any longer. MOST refreshing!
Right now, as in the HERE AND NOW, we’re weak at the DB position. Yet, next year, we’re going to be getting some young and promising studs back from injury. I could even roll with Steve in saying that we could completely restructure Byron Jones’ contract to keep him with us. Thus, CB just might not be our target next year, but who knows?
Quick hits from me to look for in the college game this year, in no particular order…
– TE: Do we bring Gesicki back next year? If not, it would be prudent to draft one with our 2nd rounder in the ’23 Draft. Sorry, but Hunter Long ain’t workin’ out for us.
– OT/OG: If we can do better than/upgrade from our current personnel, it’s worth it to protect the Tua. It would seem as though CW has locked down an NFL top-5 Center spot on our O-Line.
– DF7: If we can do better than/upgrade from our current personnel, it’s worth it to pressure the QB and stop the run.
– CB: Xavien Howard isn’t forever as he’s struggled with bad knees in the past and now bad groins. We’ll see what happens upon Byron Jones’ return. Iggy ain’t a stud boundary CB, sadly. Our young studs could step up, yet maybe not.
BPA, IMO, will absolutely dictate the ’23 Draft.
Sleeper: QB.
Teddy Bridgewater/Betty Treadwater won’t be here next season. Skylar Thompson (a round 7 pick) has shown incredible promise but is he truly the future?
What IF we upgraded from him using say our 2nd rounder on a QB? Fact of the matter is that Tua is now injury prone.
Look at this as insurance. Lord knows I’m ALL-IN with TUA!!!
This is now and officially Tua’s team.
I can see us drafting a QB but it won’t be in the 2nd round
I very much tend to agree with ya, Hulkster.
I wouldn’t say we’re weak in the secondary because lots of lesser known guys have stepped. But we’ve had a lot of casualties to our core. You can’t predict injuries. Trill Williams looked like he might have been a gem UDFA. Of course he got hurt. Needam has been a consistent 3rd corner for us for a few years. He goes down. Brandon Jones was a player on the rise at safety. He goes down. Byron Jones has not healed well. That’s tough stuff.
But that’s why I stated, “in the here and now”, man. Come next season, we just might not need to focus on DB whatsoever, or even via the Draft. 🙂
I get that and I’m talking about now too. The trade for Bradley Chubb was to not only combat issues this year, but he’s a player that can help us make a run the next few years because we’re setup for that. Sometimes you have to strike when the time is right.
We don’t have the secondary that we thought we were going to have. So now we need more pass rush. I agree, we’ll be in the market for DBs in the offseason.
Last time to ensure we set our clocks back 1 hour for going off of Daylight Saving Time tonight.
Happy to gain an hour tonight, though!
And so once we then again set our clocks ahead 1 hour just before Spring, it’s all over!
2023 marks the END of setting clocks back and forth every year here in America!!!
Hulkster,
Have you watched ‘Andor’ yet? It’s pretty funkin’ awesome, buddy!
Where is that?
Not the planet – the show…lol
Disney+, Pigster. It’s a VERY, VERY great show, IMO.
I haven’t been a huge fan of the Star Wars stuff Disney has produced
Not yet. It’s likely on my watch list to binge over Thanksgiving
It’s the backstory to the rebellion, how it became to be, and obviously, how Cassian Andor played a part.
It’s a prelude to ‘Rogue One’… Cassian Andor was the main character in that movie.
Might be really windy tomorrow

Run the ball and play defense. I think the trade for Jeff Wilson could be the unsung hero move that was exactly what we needed to play down the stretch.

We didn’t trade for a guy who was meh. He was trending for 1,000 yards rushing. Now he pairs up with Mostert again when they shared the carries for SF. It’s the perfect fit.
Raheem Mostert stats this year.
101-452 4.5 25lg 1TD
13-97 7.5 18lg 1TD
Huge hit on the big stage.
Did Chris Grier and Co. add a pass rusher and a RB to change the dynamic down the stretch? A team’s best friend is to rush the passer and run the ball. Tua and the passing game is there. They’re setting records believe it or not. 🙂
Here we go Phillies top of the 9th and the Astros looking to win it leading 4-1. Great sports moments.
Wow, WTG LSU!!!
