OD – did Miami have scenes like this after the perfect season SB?

I don’t think anyone alive could call that game boring. It was a classic.

Anyone doesn’t think Armstead makes a difference. This is unreal

  3. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Why would the NFL want to clean it up?

They need to be able to manipulate games, so tv networks can maximize profits, which in turn comes back to them in the next TV deal

Works like this, the networks want rams in SB, so they speak with the NFL, who talks to the refs and ask them to officiate the game a certain way, doesn’t always work, but they do what they can

  6. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

DT Javon Hargrave is a free agent next year. Very good pass rushing DT.

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Another DT/NT who would be cheaper than Hargrave is:

    DARON PAYNE, WASHINGTON COMMANDERS
Payne showed early in his NFL career that he could be a stout run-defender from the nose tackle position, with his 86 defensive stops against the run the most in the NFL from 2018-20. And he has now continued to build on his pass-rush arsenal to the point where he’s now a problem for interior offensive linemen trying to keep their quarterback upright. Payne has 80 quarterback pressures since the start of 2021, 10th-most among interior defenders, with his 11.9% pass rush win rate a very respectable figure on the inside.

  8. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Cethan is a TE we could’ve used this year, or at least given him a shot at being a system fit

  9. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I figured Lavonte David would be too expensive but here is another free agent ILB who is ascending.

    LB DAVID LONG, TENNESSEE TITANS
The Titans ask a lot of their off-ball linebackers, and Long can do it all. His 90.3 run-defense grade so far in 2022 is second-best at the position, with his 12 tackles for loss or no gain tied for the second-most. Long plays a downhill, attacking brand of football that helps him blow up a lot of plays but also makes him particularly susceptible to over-committing on play-action passes and missing tackles when he takes a poor pursuit angle. Nevertheless, he is clearly an ascending young player contributing immensely to Tennessee’s defense that currently ranks top five in expected points added per rush allowed on the season.

The 2022 season is Long’s first as a full-time starter at middle linebacker, but he’s made the most of opportunities in the past. Over the past three seasons, his 19.7% pass-rush win rate and 23.5% pressure rate are both the third-best marks among off-ball linebackers with at least 100 pass-rush snaps over the span.

  10. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

OT Jack Conklin will be a free agent. A few injuries might keep his price down.

  11. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Reading an article about the salary cap, chances of it going up drastically next year is slim, NFL generally moves it up gradually

Can’t believe though that we’d have signed all those guys this year, just to be in salary cap hell next year, it it wasn’t going up close to 300m

We sit at 2.5m over in 2023 at 233m and only 37 players under contract

  12. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

CB’s Cam Sutton and Patrick Peterson will be free agents. Too bad we are cursed by the contract of Byron Jones. Who knows what kind of player Jones will be after this injury/surgery. He could be garbage. We already knew he wasn’t an INT guy.

  13. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

We aren’t going to be signing a bunch of FAs next year, that cost much, maybe 7 rookies, including UDFAs, then 9 more FAs some frome our team

  14. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

TE Hayden Hurst is a free agent in 2023. He is not a receiving threat, but he plays like an animal. Very Physical.

  15. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

    We’re 8-6 and in the 6th spot.
Titans, Pats and Jets are 7-7 in the #7-9 spots one game behind.
    7th makes the playoffs too.
I have a grand strategy on this.
    Just beat the Packers.

  16. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Cincinnati has 3 decent TE’s all of them are free agents in 2023. Well Mitchell Wilcox is a RFA.

  21. Ken's avatar Ken says:

Titans are fading and Jags are rising

  22. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

At best, we will more than likely stay at the 7th seed. Who would you want to face, Bills or Chiefs?

Though, Bengals could sneak into the #2 spot. They play at Patriots then last 2 at home vs Buffalo and Ravens.

Chiefs have it easiest of the top teams.

  23. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

When I look at the possible seedings that Chargers loss irks me more and more.

If we had won that one, we would be #1 wildcard looking to play the Titans or Jaguars. Unless Ravens win that division with their easier schedule than the Bengals. We would lose the head to head with Bengals who would then get the Titans or Jags and we would get the Ravens.

Ah fuck, who cares. Just win and get in!

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I don’t see anything wrong with that whatsoever. Why link to one’s competition on social media, for one? What’s more, Twitter (prior to Musk), Facebook, Instagram, Mastodon, Tribel, Post, and Nostr are all disinformation campaigns (via the FBI and CIA) against 50% of the country (conservatives and republicans).

I presume you haven’t acknowledged the ‘Twitter File’ dumps over the last couple of weeks.

This all makes ‘Water Gate’ seem like a juvenile prank, to be honest.

Where were you when Twitter was banning conservatives and republicans by the 10’s of thousands? I was one of them. Where were you prior to Musk, regarding this whole ‘what about freedom of speech’?

  25. stangerx's avatar stangerx says:

“That was a huge win for Buffalo, but sometimes you lose a game, and I’m really impressed. The Miami Dolphins’ loss Saturday night was one of the more impressive losses of the year. For a warm weather team to go up in that cold, against Josh Allen, outplay them, outcoach them, outsmart them for a big chunk of that football game, a tip of the cap to the Dolphins. They feel like a playoff team to me.”

    — Colin Cowherd

  26. Julian Edelman wasn’t pleased with how the final game on the NFL’s Week 15 Saturday slate was officiated.

Both the Buffalo Bills and the Miami Dolphins were victims of questionable calls by referees at Highmark Stadium. The critical AFC East matchup effectively was decided on a costly whistle when Miami cornerback Kader Kohou was flagged for pass interference with 45 seconds left to play in the game. With the game tied at 29, the game-changing penalty brought the Bills all the way down to the Dolphins’ 10-yard line where they were easily able to set themselves up for the game-winning field goal.

It’s unclear if the Kohou penalty was the final straw for Edelman, but the former New England Patriots wide receiver was nonetheless miffed by the role officiating played in the divisional showdown.

“Sick and tired of refs deciding games,” Edelman tweeted. “Clean it up Nfl.”

Edelman probably shouldn’t hold his breath for marked improvements in NFL officiating. Such is life in a highly physical sport where a penalty basically can be called on every play.

We’ll wait and see if the Super Bowl LIII MVP is set off by the refs again Sunday when his former team visits the Las Vegas Raiders.

BUT,NOW, we have to seize this opportunity by the throat and win the last 3 games of the regular season. If the Fins go 3-0, a playoff game is guaranteed. This will be a team that NO ONE wants to play, not even in a cold, snowy, game.

  39. I’ve seen some articles out there calling Josh Boyer out. I really don’t see scheme as the problem. What I’ve been seeing are tackling issues and some costly penalties that change the game. That tells me it’s a talent issue. To me every defender is responsible for their tackling. It’s a mentality. There is only so much you can coach. These guys have been doing tackling drills most of their life. Get the guy on the ground.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Big scheme problem with the constant blitzing leaving our depleted secondary exposed

      • It actually works and we miss tackles. We’ve also been dropping a lot more guys in coverage and still missing tackles. I’ve seen a WR or RB with maybe a 2-3 yard catch – we have 3 guys on him and he gets through all of them for a 1st down.

But I agree about our depleted secondary. The guys who are playing give great effort but a lot of the time you can see why they’re backups and weren’t highly regarded. We have too many of them playing at the same time because of injuries.

I see us targeting DBs big time in the offseason. Between age and injuries we need an influx of young talent in the secondary.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I don’t think we need DBs and we can’t afford them, but really depends on the guys that are hurt coming back, if Byron comes back we’ll also have Trill, and Needham to go along with X, Iggy and Kohou and one other on IR

      • I’m not not talking about buying them but drafting and a vet here and there. I don’t think we can count on all of the injured guys.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

It’s not a scheme problem it’s a timing problem, he doesn’t seem to know when to call the cover-0

  40. pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I think there is talent on the Defense, but it is not used well. As for the tackling, it’s coaching. They are being coached to try to strip the ball instead of put the runner on the ground. That leads to yards after contact.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I watched that all weekend by other teams too

Back to situational football, I think many players and coaches don’t understand when to try to strip the ball carrier

Since coaches are included in that, they aren’t teaching the players when to do it

I could be wrong, but that’s what I see

Sometimes players do stupid shit like ending of Cheats vs Raiders game or Redskins at goal line and WR doesn’t line up on LOS, but the strip tackling is too common to think they’ve been taught when to do it

Another thing that bugs me are these DL, that want to get a big hit in on the ball carrier and give him a big shot from behind launching him another 5 yards

    • Tackling is a basic fundamental of football and specifically defenders. I doubt the coaches are saying just try to strip the ball and don’t worry about tackling. Just like running the ball is a mentality so is tackling.

The Dolphins’ two highest draft picks this year have played a combined nine snaps of offense and defense.

Third-round linebacker Channing Tindall has logged nine defensive snaps and none since the first half of the Bears game Nov. 6. Meanwhile, fourth round receiver Erik Ezukanma, who caught 10 passes for 156 yards in preseason, hasn’t played in any games.

So what’s going on here? Receivers coach Wes Welker has said veterans are ahead of Ezukanma and noted that he’s backing up Tyreek Hill, who has been healthy all season.

The Dolphins promoted practice squad receiver Braylon Sanders for a second time this season, against Buffalo, instead of Ezukanma because Sanders has more experience in the X position played by River Cracraft, who missed the Bills game with an injury. “Braylon is next guy up at the position,” Welker said. “It’s not fair to say to Erik, ‘now you’re the X.”

So is Ezukanma struggling to grasp the playbook? “Erik’s doing fine. Erik’s doing great,” Welker said. “He’ll keep progressing and he’s going to be a great player for us. He’s getting a good grasp of the offense. There’s a ton of details that go into [the Dolphins’ offense]. It takes a lot of reps and a lot of time. The guys that are playing tend to get a lot of those reps.”

Ezukanma, who plays the Z and F receiver positions, spends most of his time on the scout team “and it’s tough for him to get those reps in practice because of other guys needing those reps. You do a lot of that during training camp. “We have very long play calls” and a lot of details and nuances that receivers must know. And “if they are not on point with the quarterback, there’s too much of a pass rush to be off point even a little bit,” Welker said. “There was a time it was hard [for Ezukanma] to even line up. Now he’s lining up right. Erik will get there.”

Welker also noted the steep learning curve in moving from Texas Tech’s spread offense to an NFL offense. “I came from that offense,” Welker said, noting he had no receptions as a rookie. So what gives Welker hope that Ezukanma can be a good NFL receiver? “He has the strength, the size, the hands, the speed we really like in our receivers,” he said. “I look forward to really working with him [next offseason]. It’s nothing we’re really worried about.”

As for Tindall, defensive coordinator Josh Boyer said he’s not playing because he “has veteran players in front of him that know and understand the defense a little better than he does. He runs well, he’s a physical player, tackles well. We’re encouraged by that.” Tindall has played 135 snaps on special teams.

Dolphins coaches seem eager to see Liam Eichenberg, who missed the past six games with a knee injury. He’s practicing and likely will come off injured reserve in the coming days. Rob Jones has played left guard in his place.

Offensive coordinator Frank Smith said Eichenberg’s pass protection was at a high level before his injury. “We saw great growth,” Smith said. How was Eichenberg as a run blocker? Offensive line coach Matt Applebaum didn’t answer directly but said “Liam has the skill set to excel in all things we’re asking him to do. I don’t see anything he can’t accomplish within our scheme.”

Per SI.com, the Dolphins have passed eight times on 3rd and 1 and converted only one of them; they were 0 for 2 on converting passes on 3rd and 1 against Buffalo. Conversely, Miami converted its only third and one rushing attempt against Buffalo and has converted 7 of 11 third and 1 runs this season.

Asked about the failed third and 1 passes against Buffalo, Smith said: “We felt opportunities presented for throwing the ball, advantageous looks to throw it. We didn’t exactly get what we thought would play out on those plays.”

Did Mike McDaniel second-guess himself after the game for those failed third and ones? “Mike doesn’t normally second guess himself,” Smith said. “He’s confident in the decisions he makes. If you’re driven only by results, you’re going to be miserable every day.”

I guess single man by the CBs combined with two safeties deep means both Waddle and Hill are double covered. Has to be a way to take advantage of that.

“Welker noted this week that teams are playing cornerbacks in man coverage with two deep safeties.

“Nobody does that. You don’t see that.””

Google gets the contract to distribute Sunday Ticket. Next year out of market games will be available on Youtube Primetime Channels and Youtube TV

      • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

So humor me… does this mean your cable companies won’t be able to offer it through their services ? And if you want to watch basically have to cast the video stream to a TV ?? As you can tell not a real Tekkie

And can you have more than one game at a time streaming ??

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

        No idea, Toba.

Not sure how it works in Canada, but it probably won’t be available through any cable companies. Smart TVs you can add the youtube app to the tv and get youtube primetime channels, so you wouldn’t have to cast.

They haven’t announced any details yet on what’ll be available, so no idea if you’ll be able to stream concurrently from the same account on different devices. Sure hope so; like you, I love having multiple games up.

      • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

Thank you for the input sir… TNF is available on TSN (I have TSN 1-5) we also have an Amazon account , but cannot find a stream or their feed of the game .. cable company only stopped Sunday ticket that one year they tried DAZN, which sucked balls .. I hear it has improved but not a fan of moving from cable … especially we have 7 cable boxes in the house … time will tell 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Streaming just like on Prime tonight

I pay for ESPN+ Hulu and Disney+ and stream everything, pay $12.99 a month, get local channels + some cable free another way

      • manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

We also have Disney as well..

My cable internet bill is 300.00 a month during NFL season, drops 50.00 off season .. it does include WWE network , Timeshift, HBO , Crave , movie channels.. so you pay a TOTAL 12.99 for cable/internet ?
