I’m so happy for Zach Thomas, one of my favorite Miami Dolphins players, for his well deserved induction into the NFL Hall of Fame. It’s been a long time coming, and they made us sweat it out last night, as there are only 9 inductees each year, and Zach Thomas was the last. As soon as I saw Jimmy Johnson as the presenter, I knew it had to be Zach, and my heart raced in excitement and happiness for him. No doubt Jimmy Johnson was largely responsible for Zach Thomas’ success. JJ drafted Zach Thomas in RD 5 of the 1996 NFL Draft, and later signed veteran MLB Jack Del Rio in June of that same year, perhaps as a mentor to the young LB. Once Jimmy saw Zach Thomas up close and on the playing field, he knew Zach had to be on the field at all times. August 5th of 1996, JJ was aware that Zach was a special player man and released the veteran LB Jack Del Rio. Zach Thomas and JJ never looked back.
Zach Thomas played 12 seasons with the Miami Dolphins, is a 5 time All Pro LB, and a 7 time Pro Bowl LB, and now, finally, a Hall of Fame LB. He played the game with so much enthusiasm throughout his entire career, and although concussions threatened to end his career earlier than he would have liked, Zach did anything he could to continue playing the game he loved, and at a high level. I think most of us here remember when he purchased a hyperbaric chamber for his home in order to combat the effects of those concussions. He continued to play the game at a high level until he couldn’t and played one season for the Dallas Cowboys before finally hanging up his cleats. 1734 tackles, 20.5 sacks, 17 INT’s, 16 FF’s, 8 FR’s, 4 defensive TD’s and 74 TFL’s. Just an amazing career, and although many doubted him due to the fact he was undersized at 5’11 230, he was a tremendous impact player and defensive playmaker. He could do it all, and along with his brother in law Jason Taylor, who played DE and OLB were an extremely talented defensive tandem and teammates that made watching Dolphins football from the late 90’s into the late 2000’s so much more enjoyable.
I got to meet Zach Thomas while on vacation at the Atlantis in the Bahamas. I was walking with my son to a vendor to get lunch and while walking, I see Zach sitting at a table with his wife and kids. Like a little kid, I got so excited, and embarrassedly said “Mr. Thomas?” He said ” Yeah man, how are you doing?” I replied that I was a huge Dolphins fan and would love to get a picture with him, but I see that you’re with your family and I don’t want to bother you. He immediately got up and said “No problem, I don’t mind at all”. Got the picture and I explained to him briefly how he was one of my favorites, and it was truly a thrill to meet him. The next day I’m at one of the pools at the Atlantis and Zach Thomas walks over and says hello. We have a conversation about him, the Miami Dolphins, Jimmy Johnson, Jack Del Rio, the aforementioned hyperbaric chamber for pretty close to an hour. I remember specifically during our discussion after telling him that JJ loved him right away and how he cut Jack Del Rio, Zach’s face as he knew he wasn’t talking to just a casual fan. When I brought up the hyperbaric chamber, Zach looked at me and said “Damn man, you’re really hardcore!”. I think all of us here are hardcore fans without question, and I’m sure I can say without any hesitation that Zach Thomas was one of the reasons we enjoyed watching this team. Dan Marino may be one of the first guys you think of when you think Miami Dolphins, but Zach Thomas is right there with him for me.
Zach Thomas #54 – Hall of Fame

Awesome, Mike E!!!
Thanks Krishna
Nice write Mike E. Did Rock edit it ? 😉
Nope! lol – I don’t want to bother him
Thanks Ken
Nice work Mike! and Zach Thomas is definitely deserving of this honor.
Thomas was all heart, passion and drive when he played football and that’s what I loved about him.
Thanks Boulder – No question, Zach was an overachiever, always exceeding expectations as a player. You have to have exceptional drive and desire to play at that level for so long. The Jets Joe Klecko was a similar player, undersized for sure, but heart put them over the top
Awesome write Mike, and Zach is so deserving of the HOF.
Thanks Tim
CONGRATS, ZACH THOMAS!!! WOOOOOOO!!!
Mike E, I’m very happy for you that you got to chat it up with Zach for about an hour! I remember when this happened, about 10 years ago, right? I also remember that picture of you with Zach… awesome!
Yeah, not exactly sure, I know it was before I had the stroke, which will be 10 years in March or April, forget exactly when it happened. It may have been just a couple of months prior
Great writing Mike! No edits. LOL I am so happy for Zach. He truly disserved it and now he got it! Woot!
Edit you: deserved 😁
Mike E showed us all the photo of him and Zach at one of the fests
Was pretty cool
Well Zach made the Hall, guess I have to buy a new jersey now
Do the Dolphins retire #54 now?
Maybe Judo is the hero we need
My son started Tae Kwondo 13 years, he got his black belt about 5 years in
I’d take him every night, then stayed to watch, thought it would be a good thing for pro athletes, and even mentioned it on here about 10 years ago
If I was a HS football coach I’d try to get all the players into wrestling, to give them a leverage advantage
Martial Arts and/or Wrestling should be a given, for every Pro football player
It’s really good for balance
Interesting. Tua needs to learn that some plays aren’t there so either run and slide, throw it away or curl up and take the sack.
He’s going to get hit at some point, he needs to know what to do after he gets hit
BTW – Zach looks like he could step in and play right now, he’s in excellent shape!
Piggy – Is there any concussion protocol in Judo class?
He hasn’t cleared yet…lol
Wouldn’t suck if he gets a concussion from judo on his down time
I’d bet we’d never hear about it, but yeah, that would be awful if that happens
This year we are going to see Tua hip throw a CB trying to sack him… Oorah!
Would be awesome if he escaped a sack by flipping the defensive player over
15 yard penalty for unnecessary roughness by the quarterback!
After a brief excursion to Thailand…
Maybe they want DeAndre Hopkins back if this happens…
Can’t believe how quick he got bored with Thailand
Sounds like he had only one night in Bangkok…
#60
60. CB EMMANUEL FORBES, MISSISSIPPI STATE BULLDOGS
Forbes was unbelievably dominant in man coverage this season. The senior gave up only three catches in man while also snagging three interceptions. He also allowed only a 20% completion rate in man, the lowest among FBS cornerbacks.
————-
That he can play man-coverage in the SEC is most impressive! That makes him more than appropriate in Fangio’s ‘Match-Zone’ scheme, where we DO play man-coverage from time to time.
I’m watching more tape (not highlights) of Emmanuel Forbes. That cat can also blitz like our Brandon Jones.
Just sayin’, if Forbes kills the Combine, we’ve got no shot at him unless we somehow trade up. The only thing holding him back is his size… and he plays much larger than his size.
LOL Screw Disney!
LOL

LOVE IT, and so very well deserved!
Not sure, but I think current day Madonna is really Robocop
Tua’s new skill set showing up on the field
LOL!
“Now how could the ref call that? It was clean kick to the facemask?!
Great story, Mike. Fun to read even on the 2nd go around.
Thanks Kong, maybe 3rd, but who’s counting. A good story is a good story
Was that so hard? Why didn’t they do that with the last one? Incompetent
^
The official state vegetable of Oklahoma is the watermelon…..
You racist😜
Butch Barry, from the Denver Broncos’ perspective…
I’ve heard a few things too about him, none good
Hard to believe MM would hire and let a screamer on his staff
Sheesh!
8 CB’s went before I got to pick #51 including Forbes at #41. Could not pass up MLB Drew Sanders.
51. Drew Sanders LB Arkansas
77. Warren McClendon OT Georgia
84. Deonte Banks CB Maryland
178. Zion Nelson OT Miami (FL)
240. Camren McDonald TE Florida State
I’m becoming more familiar with Deonte Banks… he’s none too shabby.
Yeah, started to get thin after 8 cb’s went before I picked. Could have also gone with Garrett Williams but he is coming off ACL repair.
I think TE Camren McDonald could be a late round steal. I think he was underutilized at FSU. He has great hands, good route runner, good with the ball in his hands and a really good blocker. He is just not the size many covet at 6’4 240.
I think if Buffalo loses ILB Edmonds in free agency, they draft ILB Drew Sanders in the 1st round.
Sigh. Tunes not spam.
I can’t believe that writing not spam gets it past the spam filter LOL
Man, been a long time since I heard this one
Good stuff!
https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/tua-tagovailoa-says-concussion-protocol-took-forever-but-he-s-thankful-for-dolphins-caution/ar-AA17lhrB?cvid=9574d8d4722c48b5bea7ec767967fc7e
Tua Tagovailoa said he’s very thankful that the Miami Dolphins were “protecting me from myself.”
“For concussion protocol, I think the team did me the biggest service throughout that,” the Dolphins quarterback told USA TODAY Sports Friday at Super Bowl 57 Radio Row.
He cleared concussion protocol earlier this month. He said it “took forever.”
“(Miami) never allowed me to go through protocol normally until the season was done,” Tagovailoa said. “They were protecting me from myself. Me and my family are very thankful for the Dolphins.”
When asked if coach Mike McDaniels’ job was ever in jeopardy if the Dolphins missed the playoffs, Tagovailoa emphatically said, “There’s no way.”
Learned this week an old military friend from the mid 80’s passed. We were best of friends while stationed together but never kept in touch after we both transferred. I guess that was the age of no cell phones or social media.
He was one of the Sargeant’s in our artillery battalion. He was the definition of “work hard, play hard”. He was a great Marine and person. He would give a stranger the shirt off his back.
This song is fitting for him. RIP Sgt Taylor
RIP Sgt Taylor, and my condolences to you, my man. 😦
Thanks! It’s not like we were lifelong friends. We were best buds for just over 2 years then never talked to each other again after I transferred. That’s unfortunate when I think about it.
M13, Dax dropped a new one not long ago.
MIKE E; THANKS for sharing your Zach Thomas experiences with the rest of us. It’s QUITE A STORY.
————————
SOMEWHERE OUT THERE there’s another late round draft candidate who is going to make a HUGE contribution to to some lucky franchise’s future. I HOPE it is our Dolphins turn again to make such a discovery.
———————–
A late round selection of a STUD O-Lineman in the coming draft would certainly perk-up Miami’s chances of another PLAYOFF SEASON!
Nice write, Mike E! I’m so happy Zach finally was rewarded for all his hard work over the years. One of the best and most fun players I ever watched.
Thanks OD, New Age! He was so darn down to earth, didn’t think anything of it just chatting with a regular guy. I thought that in particular was so cool.
Awesome write Mike. And anyway you’re not just some regular guy Zach knew you were cool that’s why he approached you the second time. You rock. So does Zach, just desserts 😁🐬👊
Thanks Sonny! You rock my man!
Regarding retiring numbers, I get it and some in sports truly deserve it but I’m not totally in favor of it. For instance Tua would love to wear that 13 and he might not have suffered so many injuries if he was wearing it, who knows.
If they do retire 54 then 99 goes with it, I’d leave the numbers in play but memorialize them in the stadium such as they do with the ring of honor.
I wanted to add that retiring numbers, and I say this with all love and respect for Dan, Jason and Zach, should have one or more Championships associated with them. That’s my honest feeling about it but nonetheless understand it and I’m not particularly bothered by it
Great song
Before it gets too late, and before it gets past anybody, I DID see Phelon’s post about me yesterday before it got removed… thank you to the admin who removed it.
Phelon, I want to get along with you. As I’ve stated ever since Omar’s blog, it’s okay to disagree. We don’t have to agree on everything, but we can at least try to get along as fellow Phins fans.
Personal attacks aren’t warranted, and as you saw, I didn’t escalate the matter by even replying to your post.
Let us BOTH try to do better in the future.
What in the wide world of sports are you talking about, Skippy? I didn’t post anything about you yesterday. I vaguely remember posting something messing with Rock. No clue what your talking about.
No one removed a post. Phelon didn’t post anything about you either
Whew…thought I might be sleep posting!
Great write Mike e , I never tire of the story… much better than my “Go Dolphins “to Channing Crowder at the seafood restaurant
LOLOL! Thanks Toba!
Anyway I hope we wear the throwbacks to the Zach and JT years, those are pretty nice too, I liked the addition of the dark blue hint they added.
Just underway on ESPN2 (Channel 209 on DIRECTV) is a program titled “The Perfect Machine.” It’s an interesting explanation about HOW the 1972 Miami Dolphins were built from the ground up.
Hope many of you enjoy it.

PUT ME DOWN for the HOWIE’s Super Bowl pick as follows;
27-17 Chiefs.
Crickets are chirping today!
Humans – this is a warning!
You may believe you are safe this weekend while you are enjoying to bacon
But this is the sort of havoc animal-kind will cause if you don’t change your ways
You have been warned
LOL
My dogs would have had a blast if that happened at my house.
Say goodbye to all the Dishes and glassware
Athletic re-enactment of yesterday’s colonoscopy
Ouch, you remember that? They put me under. All I remember is waking up and farting my ass off. LOL
I was out too – I think that’s the norm
I can’t imagine being awake for it
This is just my imagination’s take on what occurred…lol
It’s funny bc I told the doctor my stomach hurt after and he was like – you should fart.
And then I was like ohhh
🐖💨💨💨💨💨💨💨
I guess they fill you up with air so you gotta fart a lot afterwards
I don’t watch golf much now since I can’t really play anymore. My stubborn ass refuses to have shoulder surgery. But there is something about the Waste Management tournament in Arizona that makes me want to watch it.
Has to be the rowdy crowds, especially on the par-3 16th hole that is completely surrounded by grandstands.
Tua on skipping the pro bowl: “I didn’t think it was necessary that the first thing I came back to do football-related wasn’t team-related with the Dolphins”
COMING UP NEXT on the NFL Network; Jimmy Johnson tells Zach Thomas he’s just been elected to the Hall of Fame!!
Very Cool
Piggy, I remember your mock when you selected RB Tank Bigsby. I hadn’t looked into him yet. I just thought you wanted us to draft him so you could buy his jersey and change the name to “Pigsby”. LOL
After taking a closer look, he is a good prospect. I still like RB Abanikanda from Pitt.
Bigsby doesn’t have top end speed (think he will be close to high 4.4 to low 4.5) but has very good vision and acceleration. His best trait is he has a sick natural ability to make defenders miss. He has really quick feet and acceleration to make people miss who only a split second before had him perfectly squared up to make a play only to be made to look silly.
What I like about him is of his 976 yards rushing last season, 740 yards came after first contact with 60 forced missed tackles (per PFF).
What I didn’t like was he had 6 fumbles in 3 seasons which amounts to about 1 fumble every 100 touches. He also runs a little upright. I think that helps his vision and jump cut ability.
He’s a tough one to make a call on where he goes. My guess would be 3rd round all the way to the 6th round. It’s a decent year to draft a RB also.
Peyton Manning on facing Zach Thomas:
“The most unnerving thing about playing Miami is Zach Thomas calling out all of your plays,” Manning said. “He caused the most problems for me of any player I ever faced.”
ACCORDING TO A LOCAL REPORT, the cheapest Super Bowl tickets are going for about $6,800 in Arizona, which is DOWN about $4,000 from last year.
———————
I paid $35 for tickets to Super Bowl 17 and $60 for tickets to Super Bowl 19. BACK THEN, about 5,000 or so tickets were set aside for season ticket holders for each team who wanted to go to the Super Bowl.
MY HOW TIMES HAVE CHANGED!!!
Talked to an assistant manager of the local Publix grocery store here in Pasco County today. Both Eagles and Chiefs large decorative balloons with large logos of each team were for sale.
“Have you sold more Eagles or Chiefs balloons this week,” I asked him.
He responded “More Chief’s Stuff, by a 3-1 margin,”
This surprised me a little bit since Tampa Bay is an NFC franchise.
Trudeau supposedly asked the U.S. to “Shoot it Down.”
Biden reportedly was happy to comply.
I’ll wait for more confirmation before commenting on this one.
Same here, Mr. Campbell… we need to know more. However, this is now the 3rd aerial intrusion into North America in a week. I’m looking forward to hearing what’s going on!
NORAD is a joint US and Canadian command there was no special ask
HEY MANITOBA: GLAD to see the Jets are off to a good start this season.
It’s hard to believe the NHL regular season is already about 60% over!!
Thanks OD .. they kinda swooned just before the All star break , I hope they hit the ice running tonight … so far they look okay

Very well… I suppose my imagination ran away being Phelon is totally my focus every morning when I wake up and every night before I go to bed. LOL 😆
Seriously, why on God’s green Earth would I make something up that’s essentially trivial?
Only now that my very WORD has been questioned, I’m taking a screenshot next time it may occur, if anybody needs evidence. I consider this case closed… and I don’t suspect it will happen again.
Dude no one removed a post.
As I stated, case closed.
While being your first and last fantasy every day is more than a little creepy, I did not post anything about you. I’m not questioning your word, I’m questioning your grip on reality. Whatever you’re smoking you should share it with Krishna. He likes getting high. I 100 percent have not recently posted anything directed at you. You don’t need a screen shot, just say what you think you read.
Seriously, Pp? Lol….I don’t want to smoke anyhing that makes me fantasize about you EVER….morning or evening….sorry, not sorry…lmao.
I thought we got along fine without the creepiness….lol
LMAO!
I’m looking forward to hearing what’s going on!

I want to know the why. They have to be planning something.
Also, why isn’t our leader getting their leaders face. Oh, never mind.
I don’t want to go conspiracy theory crazy. 😉
The third object was shot down over the Yukon of Canada meaning it would have had to already fly over Alaska (more than likely) to get there.
Then, a fourth object (radar anomaly) was detected over Montana again only to scramble jets and they couldn’t find anything.
LOL
Mike you realize the Earth is not map shaped right??
You can go “up” the map too? There’s a lot more land up there that does not go across Alaska than that does. Or I should say air space not land
Yeah, I know just trying to make an issue of it. LOL

Pretty sure this is the culprit

28K already found dead from earthquakes in Turkey. Don’t know what the toll is in Syria.
Not surprised. I did an exercise in Turkey back in the early 90’s then stayed behind for 3 more weeks to take care of the Marines doing the agricultural washdown of all the equipment and vehicles.
We stayed at a nearby hotel. On the way to the port where we were conducting the washdown you could see several apartment buildings being built. They used no rebar that I could see. The walls were cinderblock like and the floors were poured concrete maybe 6″ thick at the most. Seemed thinner from a distance.
I actually hooked up with the hotel owner’s daughter while I was there, her name is Arzu. Can’t remember her last name. Her father was Hungarian and mother from Turkey though she spoke with a British(ish) accent. She said her name meant “desire” which was very fitting. I asked her where a good restaurant was and she said, “I will take you.” She took me and my buddy and that was all she wrote.
Anyway, the earthquake made me think about her. We were on the North coast in Tekirdag so I don’t think they were affected.
I just checked the comments in the admin settings, the last comment that was deleted on this site was 2/27/22.
Like Ken and I said. I didn’t post anything about him. Don’t know what he was going on about.
Getting ready to watch the QB who got benched at Alabama for Tua win the Super Bowl.
I have a feeling I’m in the minority here, But I’m rooting for the Eagles tonight
My brother is an eagles fan
But I can’t really root for them bc I think KC is just a better team
I’ll just be watching without expectations
That’s funny, I think Philly is the more complete team. They have the better defense by far IMO, and I think their offense matches up well, especially if Hurts is healthy and able to run. Philly has the more consistent run game, the Chiefs rely on McKinnon a lot in the short passing game, Pacheco isn’t as good as the trio of backs Philly has in Sanders, Scott and Gainwell. Mahomes is the WC though, because he’s the best player on the field.
Me watching the Super Bowl trying to avoid being shot down
Use your Piggy cloak.
Not what I had in mind when we discussed a cloaking system but it will have to do
MikeE., I am pulling for the Eagles.
Do you think the Eagles are the more balanced team? I definitely do
I don’t like the Eagles. I have no reason why, I just don’t. 🤷🏼♀️
Le me tell you, I’ve known a few eagles from my day in the wild
Jerks all of them
So stuck up with their “I’m a the national bird…blah blah blah”.
No one likes that stuff
Bunch of squawky jerks!
LATEST UPDATE FROM NORAD:
“No UFO spotted in the last few hours. But some VERY SUSPICIOUS pig do-do was detected in the exact area of the radar blip!
OKAY, Just released NORAD UPDATE SAYS,”AIRSPACE NOW NEGATIVE for pig do-do. But we can confirm remnants of Canadian Bacon!!!
remnants of Canadian Bacon

F-22 must have got him also!
Joe Biden wanted some Maple-Bacon Crunch Ice Cream. 🙂
Interesting.
The #Eagles have gotten help from an unexpected place — Vic Fangio signed a 2-week contract with Philly to help its offense prepare for KC’s defense. Tomorrow, he’ll join Miami as the #Dolphins DC.
My story: https://t.co/NVw6qQGnFi
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) February 12, 2023
Hmmm, seems like he could help our sophomore HC in other ways as well.
Great hire!
Maybe he can also help HC with play clock management. lol
MikeE., yes, I think they are more balanced. Also, I think their defense has the ability to limit Kelce’s production.
KC’s run game is not what it used to be. Take away Kelce and suddenly Eagles pass rush is getting to Mahomes.
Main reason I am pulling for Eagles is Jalen Hunts got the bust label shortly after entering the NFL. He fell to bottom half of the second round. People said he wasn’t going to amount to anything.
That’s true and good for him that he shut them all up.
I hope it’s a really exciting game right down to the wire.
I hope that is what we see with Tua next year as far as the concussions go. He already started to shut up the critics with his play.
Yep!
I thought Fangio was a defensive consultant for the Eagles all season. Just glad he’s joining us tomorrow.
^
Hope commercials are better this year. They have been meh for quite a few years now and PLEASE no woke shit.
Will be watching at the office so volume will be low to the point I will barely be able to listen anyway.
BBM; Ever since Super Bowl ONE, I’ve almost always rooted for the AFL/AFC representative. After Green Bay won the first two Super Bowls the media just assumed the AFL was vastly inferior. TRUTH IS the rest of the NFL was also vastly inferior to the Packers – – – but those NFL sportswriters just couldn’t/WOULDN’T admit it.
THE only times I’ve rooted for the NFL/NFC teams was when either the “CHEATRIOTS” or the obnoxious BILLS were the AFC representative.
THUS I’m rooting for the CHIEFS who, when given the chance, ROUTED the NFC’s Minnesota Vikings in the Super Bowl.
NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON out of the 8-9 people I’ve offered to bet $5 on this game would give me the 1 and a half point spread!! And this is AN NFC TOWN!! Most folks in Tampa seem to think the Chiefs are going to win.
I HOPE THEY ARE RIGHT!
Randy, I am right with you. This year is just different for me. If KC hadn’t already won recently, I would have rooted for them.
Anyone having anything special on the menu for the SB? Cav maybe?
I just had leftover spaghetti and a mini bag of Dorito’s. I am saving my Grandma’s Brownie Chocolate Chip Cookies for halftime. 🙂
Cooked ribs in the Dutch oven, but already ate some, nothing saved for the game
What song was that? I caught it midway through.
They just did Walter Payton man of the year, was wondering, if I could the Fins representative out, and there he stood all of 9′ tall Phillips
He looked like a future HoFer, didn’t he?
First SB I don’t know who to root for, guess I’ll figure it out, after the game starts
This FN tourist town wants you to put up at least a hundy per person to go to any SB watch party and more on the Strip
The guy who sang our National Anthem while playing the guitar is no threat to Whitney Houston.
Her rendition, in my opinion, is the greatest of all time!!!
SAY, wasn’t this game advertised to start at 6:30???
Mellow mushroom pepperoni pizza, already half gone, and a spinach salad.
opted for a cabernet sauvignon with that.
Weird meal for football.
Pizza!
Vodka. 🍹
Carmichael has some monster hands
He was fun to watch.
No one can guard kelce.
That needed to be their game plan. Stop Kelce and you stop KC. IMO
Doink
Caddyshack commercial played about 20 times yesterday on ESPN streaming, but not the full thing
3rd and 4 offsides, should’ve been false start, RG was leaning back, think that’s why the Chief jumped
This time they called it on RG
And it lead to the fumble for td
MikeE Safety Dance🤪
They didn’t give us the reset on the play clock
BBM,
I got ribs, wings, baked beans, mac and cheese, and challah bread. I was exhausted before the game even started, lol.
These ribs have the best bark I’ve ever gotten on ribs before. So good
I also have grapes, carrots, and celery for my daughter who is a rabbit.
Eagles have been dominant. That goofy fumble by Hurts is the only reason the chiefs are in it.
Henne gonna get some SB play time (?)
Cav, made BBM hungry again!
Good thing the Chiefs deferred. They need a good TD drive to open the 2nd half. If they keep doing what they’re doing the Eagles are going to take this game over.
Time of possession is best D against Chiefs.
Chiefs miss Tyreek big time.
Halftime choreography a tad goofy.
Same stupid shit every year
NOT SOLD ON THE CONCEPT that deferring is the right thing to do IF you win the coin toss.
HAD THE Chiefs taken the ball on the opening drive AND SCORED, they would have had the early momentum.
THE DON OF MIAMI won the toss on all 3 playoff games in ’73. He promptly took the ball down the field AND SCORED A TOUCHDOWN IN ALL 3 GAMES!!
BY THE TIME THE SECOND HALF KICKOFF CAME AROUND, the Dolphins were already in full command of all 3 of these games.
I THINK deferring is chicken-shit. Show the other guys YOU’VE GOT THE BEST TEAM BY SCORING ON THE OPENING DRIVE!!!
Let them play catch-up the whole game!
