The Dolphins will head into the 2023 NFL Draft short on picks, holding only a handful (5) of picks. We’re also over the cap at this very moment, but that will be remedied as we enter the free agency period and draft. Contracts will be restructured to open up cap room to acquire some new players and definitely to re-sign some of our players that were on the 2022 roster. In regards to the players that were here in ’22 that we should re-sign, I’ll list them in order of priority.
- LB Elandon Roberts
- CB Nik Needham
- RB Raheem Mostert
- OT Brandon Shell
OT Austin Jackson has not panned out, but he has one more season to prove he’s an NFL starting OT. Nothing he has done in his career leads me to believe that he should be penciled in at any position along our offensive line. He did play 17 games (started 16) at LG in 2021, but played in only 2 games last season. Despite playing an entire season in ’21, he was underwhelming at best. Injuries cut short his season last year, and although we have a 5th year option for Jackson, at this time I don’t see us using it. Brandon Shell, on the other hand, was a great backup who played in 13 games last season starting 11. His play, mostly at RT was impressive. I think we need to have a reliable option to backup either side, and right now, Shell would be choice over Austin Jackson. It’s also possible that talented OG Robert Hunt makes the move to RT, but I love his play inside, and it’s easier and less expensive to find a reliable OG than it is to find an offensive tackle.
As most of you know, I’m a huge fan of Nik Needham. Provided he’ll be ready to start the 2023 season, I’d re-sign the guy who always stepped up to play wherever and whenever he was asked. A true game, I want that guy on our team. Since we have ZERO running backs on our roster, Raheem Mostert in my opinion is one guy we want back. If we can get 2 guys back, I’d take Jeff Wilson too, but Mostert would be my first choice. That guy is electric, and just explodes through the hole or around the corner. Wilson is more of an inside runner than Mostert and he has some wiggle too, and seems more like a guy who can sustain a few more carries. That being said, neither player has had more than 200 carries in a season, so both players in my opinion are RB by committee guys, so I’d prefer to draft a RB, and wouldn’t mind if it were in the early rounds.
Back to CB, we have Xavien Howard, Kader Kohou, and Trill Williams. Seems clear as day that Byron Jones will not be playing for us and will be a post June 1st cut where he then either retires, or resumes his theatrics elsewhere. TE is another void for us with incumbent Durham Smythe the only reliable TE on the roster. TE Cethan Carter is still on the roster, as is Hunter Long and Tanner Conner. My feeling is we need to address TE either in free agency or the draft, and how we proceed with free agency will dictate what we do in the draft. Whatever doesn’t get filled in Free Agency will then become a priority for the draft. Teams generally don’t like to leave themselves in a position where they have to address any particular position in the draft, and remember, there is free agency that happens after the draft, and there are always players made available after teams fill their roster with freshly drafted players and let some veteran players go.
CB, TE, RB, OL seem to be our top priorities. Yes, I know many of you want more LB’s, specifically inside LB’s, but I’ve addressed this last article. Re-sign Elandon Roberts and we’re good to go. Our defense will be a better unit in the capable hands of Vic Fangio, we don’t need to spend a 2nd RD pick on a LB. Once again, not to be monotonous or redundant, but we can’t say for sure what our draft needs are until we fill the roster in free agency. Nevertheless, let’s look at some prospects at the aforementioned positions that could help us.
Since we don’t pick until #51 in the 2nd RD, these are the players that might be available when we pick
CB Deonte Banks 6’0 197 – Maryland
CB Kelee Ringo 6’2 207 – Georgia
CB Emmanuel Forbes 6’1 166 – Mississippi State
__________________________________________
TE Darnell Washington 6’7 264 – Georgia
TE Tucker Kraft 6’5 254 – South Dakota State
TE Luke Schoonmaker 6’5 251 – Michigan
__________________________________________
RB Jahmyr Gibbs 5’9 199 – Alabama
RB Israel Abanikanda 5’11 216 – Pittsburgh
RB Eric Gray – 5’9 1/2 207 – Oklahoma
I expect to hear a lot of I like this guy or that guy, or that guy won’t be available when we pick etc. All good in the hood, let it fly. These players are not set in stone, just an idea who might help our team and again, might be available when we choose. Obviously I did not pick the top prospects at any spot because they won’t be there, and some of the guys I chose may not end getting to 51 or beyond either. I didn’t watch a lot of the combine, and it was just one particular thing that impressed me. TE Darnell Washington, who is one of the taller TE’s, got down and moved the blocked sled like it was on wheels. Just one drill, but it shows he can bend, and he has the strength and technique to block effectively in the NFL. Most of the other guys who followed were not nearly as accomplished as Washington. Considering the fact that we need a willing (and effective) blocker for our TE, I’d love to snare Washington. He may not be the most accomplished receiver of the group, but if our TE can help our run game, I think his size alone will help him be an effective receiver.
Just in case you guys were unaware, RB Israel Abanikanda attended my High School in Brooklyn NY. Abraham Lincoln High School. Besides that, what a great name, maybe he can do commercials like our former MLB of the “No Name Defense” Nick Buoniconti did. “Hi, I’m Israel Abinakanda” “Who????” I think we’re going to need a CB early on, but that may change after free agency. I’d be happy with any of those 3 guys, but who knows, maybe this is the year where Iggy gets his career on track. He’s in his walk year, considering his 5th year option would be a lofty $11.5M, quite doubtful for sure. He’s a potential roster cut as is, but he’s be relatively cheap at just over $3M. Chris Grier and our scouts have a ton of work to do, our team is on the cusp of truly being a contender. A lot of that rests on the health of our QB1. Tua Tagovailoa. We absolutely need to have him for the entire season and the playoffs. Regardless, we need Grier to fill the rest of the roster, including finding a legitimate backup QB in case what we hope for doesn’t actually happen. Let’s hope Grier gets it right.
GO DOLPHINS!!!!

lol
Great post MikeE!
I agree, Washington is a monster when it comes to blocking. If we continue to not target the TE position in the pass game (as a 1st/2nd option) then he would be a great pickup.
RB, I have said several times Abanikanda is my target as he comes from Pitts zone system and is a great size/speed combo. Sean Tucker would be my fall back. Hell, draft them both. lol
Bottom line, we go by what the “experts” project them to go. We see many players move from those projections every year. Some even slide up or down 2-3 rounds.
Thanks Mike!
Mike E,
Another good write, but I’m going to have to penalize you for not mentioning Case Keenum this time (JK/LOL) 😉
😁
Being we sent a Draft pick to the 49ers for Jeff Wilson, I’d expect us to re-sign him. And, as Mike E stated above, I think it would be my top priority (as it pertains to our RB room) to re-sign Raheem Mostert.
As for the Draft, my guys are RBs Roschon Johnson, Texas, and Devon Achane, Texas A&M.
Oh wow a guy from your own high school I’m definitely rooting for him that would be cool.
My daughter was a couple years ahead of Bortles at Oviedo so she went to school with him and my other daughter went to Hagerty with both Driskel brothers. Jeff went to Florida and had an NFL career although as a backup. The younger brother Jason never made it to the NFL but he did start for OD’s alma-mater under Lane Kiffen at FAU the Owls 🦉
Not many pro athletes from Stinkin Lincoln, but Lee Mazzilli of the Mets is probably one of the most well known. In my day, Lincoln was probably around 60% black and 40 % white, or maybe a little closer to 50/50. Coney Island was mostly black and Puerto Rican and all those people were bussed to Lincoln High School which was the closest one.
Lee Mazzilli… now that’s a name I haven’t heard in a long, long time!
Sonny – Do you remember the commercial I’m referring to?
I think I vaguely remember. Nick did a lot of stuff on tv.
Back to the TE position…
If TE Mike Gesicki, PSU, was in this ’23 Draft class, he’d probably be the 2nd TE off the board, after Michael Mayer.
Personally, I don’t see any TE in this class (aside from Mayer) even close to Gesicki’s ceiling. Now granted, I think we’ve all ascertained that Gesicki isn’t a fit for Coach McDaniel’s Offense (lack of blocking prowess).
In other words, I don’t see the next George Kittle (Coach McDaniel’s TE in SanFran) in this Draft class, at the top.
However, I like BB Mike’s train of thought that there may be some TE talent to be had in the mid-late rounds of this Draft. Yes, they may be developmental, but if they have positive traits, it’s worth the investment of a mid-late round selection.
JMO, but everybody else at the top of this TE class is a 1-trick pony (see Gesicki).
I have the feeling we’ll sign a vet TE via FA who is very unsung, to replace Gesicki. Just a feeling.
I went to HS with Meadowlark Lemon’s daughter. She was the greatest athlete in our entire school.
Nice!!
I LOVED the Harlem Globetrotters
We got to see them them in their heyday it was an incredible show
I’ve read Israel’s last name like fifteen times and I don’t think I still could say it
That’s why I said I vaguely remember because you didn’t say a Lite Beer commercial and that’s what I immediately thought of. Yes I do remember especially now lol
When do the RB’s run?
Sonny – Abinakanda is said very similarly to Buonoconti. Think of Buonoconti with an A at the beginning, and an A at the end instead of the I. A-bahn-uh-kahn-duh
Good write, Mike!
Thanks Tim
I think the RB’s are just about set to run
Sonny – I forgot it was a Lite beer commercial. I’m old!🤣

Very surprised if we don’t go after Dwelley 9ers FA … great downfield blocker good hands and familiarity with Coach
I think that’s a possibility too. Besides Smythe and who knows about Hunter Long, I could see the TE position being overhauled.
It’s like they want other teams to show them the market for him.
Yep, they can always match.
Two 1sts isn’t great value for one of the top QBs, but maybe no teams are offering much more than two 1sts because of injury concerns. If that is the case, I can’t see any team giving him 250 mil guaranteed either.
People are talking about the concerns with Tua and saying they wouldn’t sign him to a 5th year option. Yet Jackson hasn’t been able to stay healthy for two seasons and a lot of talking heads say pay the man. He’s missed 5 games each of the last two seasons and a playoff game this past season. The Ravens are in a tough spot.
Recently, Grier was asked about running it back, specifically with Moster and Wilson.
“Yeah, that was the one we talked about the other day for just a little bit because obviously we traded for [Wilson] and obviously [Mostert] and [coach Mike McDaniel’s] relationship as well, too,” Grier said on March 1. “So yeah, we’re very open to those guys coming back. We’ve talked about that scenario where they may be back. We may have the same backfield back next year.
“Obviously they’re free agents and that’ll play a part of it, but we’d be very excited to have them back.”

Cav, sorry about your grandkid situation. Sounds grueling I wish all the best for y’all.
💪🤞✌️
Thanks, Son. The support is much appreciated my friend. We’re powering through it, but it’s been pretty rough.
Kong, not sure what’s going on, but I wish your grandkid all the best.
Cheers, Tim. Our 2 y/o granddaughter’s mom moved her to Nebraska. We’ve gotten her two times a week, sometimes more, every week since she was born and we’ve been very involved in her upbringing to this point.
She was pure joy and enriched our lives immeasurably , so it’s pretty devestating.
Oh okay. So your son and the mother split up and now she’s far away. That’s rough.
I’d like to see us re-sign our backfield and a bunch of guys on defense. Make CB, TE, and OL priority in the draft. If we re-sign Mostert and Wilson, we can add a late RB if a guy we like is still there, but I’d rather we go one of those other positions with our early picks.
If we can do that and add a couple of upgrades or even just depth to the roster in FA, that sounds good to me.
We know Mike loves speed!
I do, and Gibbs ran 4.36. He’s stout too, good receiver
What no Lamar Jackson? Who wrote this? 😉
Him and every top FA are coming here I’ve read it everywhere even though we’re like way over the cap. We’re getting everybody woohoo.
Mekhi Becton?
Could he have pinned Andre the Giant?
That’s a giant of a man. Can he play the next level? We’ve seen a lot of these big guys not pan out.
And now Devon Achane becomes a household name, fuckers. 🙂
Pretty sure I was talking about him like 4-5 months ago!
You were the only one who knew about him? LOL
Or more
Disappointing time for Roschon Johnson 4.58. It was said he was much faster.
I can’t watch here. Are the RB’s done running?

Gibbs can be a dangerous 3 down RB. I haven’t mentioned him along with Bijan Robinson as I believe both of them are gone when we get to #51.
You think so many RB’s will be gone by #51? Sometimes the first RB doesn’t go until RD 2
Guess we will have to wait for pro days on others to see them run.
Even though they were fast times, I bet Achane and Mitchell were not happy with their times. Both were eyeing sub 4.3.
Just got back from next county over doing a bond and GPS on a guy. Remember the pro golfer Boo Weekley? He is still trying to come back from elbow surgery and cancer in his shoulder.
Anyway, the bond I did was for his old caddie when he was playing well on the PGA Tour back in the 2000’s. They are both from here and still live here.
I don’t think amazing fast 40 times are important for RBs. That’s not what the position is about.

Not many. Just Robinson and Gibbs. WR and LB positions are not strong this draft. I think the top 2 RB’s could slide up.
Also, picking at #51, that is more than half way through the 2nd round so I do think those 2 go before we pick.
RIP Gary Rossington.

I like Carr out of AFC, and NYC (jets) in particular
Everything I saw the last few days talked about Carr leaning towards the Jest. Maybe he used the Jest to get a better deal with the Saints, the way players always seemed to use us for years until recently.

RB Jeff Wilson said on Sports Extra on Fox that he hopes it’s very likely he’ll return to the Dolphins and he has signed with Drew Rosenhaus.
6:47 AM · Mar 6, 2023
I wonder how much collusion there is between agents and NFL teams
For example does Grier tell Rosenhaus we really need to sign Wilson at a team friendly price, but we’ll make it up to you later, when we have more cap space (not necessarily with new money for Wilson, but with other Rosenhaus clients)
QB Derek Carr agreed to a four-year contract with the Saints worth $150 million with $100 million in total guarantees
37.5m avg ain’t bad, and it may be back loaded too
Pro days start tomorrow with just IU. Won’t get really busy with pro days until March 15.

Fascinating, and thank you for posting this, Steve.
I got into politics at a relatively young age (22 years old, during the Clinton administration) due to the fact that I had a MAJOR problem with the media by and large for their provable lies: global, national, and even local (<- my music).
Ben Shapiro is a protege of my guy Glenn Beck and I appreciate Ben (even when I disagree with him, which is surprisingly more often than I'd like). He's very intelligent and incredibly well-informed. Sidenote: he looks much more mature with facial hair than not with his 'baby face'. This was a great and informative video.
It was WOODROW WILSON (fuck him, even if he wasn't mentioned by name!) who set the standard for BS journalism back in the late 1910s: there isn't a single thing under the sun that that Fabian-Socialist didn't screw up for America, setting the table FDR's presidency later on.
Oh the irony
I found it interesting. I also came away with the saying: “the more things change, the more they stay the same”.
This was a good example of human behavior.
I’ve got to admit: pre-Combine, I thought of Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia, as a lumbering TE. 4.64 40-time later at 264 pounds with 11″ hands, I’ve got to go back to the tape.
LOL, I bet if Brady passed away last year, he’d still be linked to Miami this offseason…
https://steelersdepot.com/2023/03/combine-rumors-qb-tom-brady-could-unretire-join-dolphins/
LOL
Yeah David Carr is not a Jet 😃
Aaron Rodgers will not be a Jet either imo
I think he stays with GB.
Agree. He is just a drama queen getting off on some attention. In the end he ain’t going anywhere
Market values for FA TEs, according to Spotrac
Dalton Schultz: $15.1M/yr
Irv Smith: $10.2M/yr
Foster Moreau: $9.0M/yr
Mike Gesicki: $8.2M/yr
Hayden Hurst: $6.8M/yr
Austin Hooper: $6.7M/yr
Robert Tonyan Jr: $5.0M/yr
Jordan Akins: $2.6M/yr
Whoever is the best blocking TE gets the job, IMO. Hayden Hurst would be nice.
Remember, Tua had the best passer rating in the NFL last season while barely ever targeting his TEs (Gesicki). Perhaps we nab a FA TE while awaiting the much stronger class of TEs in next year’s NFL Draft.
Sometimes when guys don’t get targeted it’s because they’re not open.
Perhaps that’s true, being more often than not, a much faster DB would be covering Gesicki manning the slot.
But then again, Gesicki is much taller than any DB in the league, he can outjump them, and he’s got ‘go-go Gadget’ arm length.
Plus Gesicki has hands of gold… whereas DBs don’t play the WR position because they can’t catch.
Gesicki’s route tree is limited. He can do the things you pointed out really well but defenses aren’t going to allow that over and over.
This is true, Tim. Agreed. Plus, Gesicki hasn’t developed his blocking game… and that spells his doom in Miami under Coach.
Hurst is my choice too
Yeah, man!
M13, McDaniel recently said he expects the running game to catch up with the passing game. Reading between the lines I think that has to do with some personnel changes, not just a year under their belts. Gesicki doesn’t fit that especially at the price he’ll be looking for.
I don’t understand why ya think I’m bashing Coach McDaniel as it pertains to Mike Gesicki. Yes, Gesicki is one of my favorite players, but I totally understand what Coach’s plan is all about.
YES, I understand that Gesicki doesn’t fit the plan, especially at the price he’ll be looking for. That’s why I endorsed Hayden Hurst just up the page, seconded by Steve. Plus there are others here who have endorsed Hurst as well.
We need a blocking TE who can receive.
We do not need a receiving TE who can’t block.
I never said you’re bashing McDaniel. My comment was based on what he said. It’s nothing personal towards you. I was talking about what I think he means by having the running game catching up with the passing game. I agree we need a blocking TE who can receive. That’s part of the plan. Steve and I have discussed this a few times.
51.Emmanuel Forbes CB Mississippi State
77.Jack Campbell LB Iowa
84.Carter Warren OT Pittsburgh
178.Will Mallory TE Miami (FL)
240.Lew Nichols III RB Central Michigan
Because of our current roster we know we will have to add LB and RB in FA and in the draft because of the numbers game. Definitely try to upgrade the OL. TE makes sense and I think we need to add another CB. So your draft pretty much covers that.
With our cap situation I think FA is going to be interesting. I’d like to see us fill some voids in FA so we can draft the BPA with each pick. When you still have voids heading into the draft you tend to reach for positions. With our draft 2, 3, 3, 6, 7 take the best prospects on your board as they fall to you regardless of position. You can always load up with UDFAs to address voids and add competition to those positions.
Good for him but does anyone see the Seahawks winning with him and their current roster? I don’t.
So the Tom Brady rumors coming out of retirement to join the Dolphins are ramping up again. So what is he going to play for, minimum wage? LOL
How can the Dolphins afford to pay him $40-50M per season? Does anyone think about that before reporting these so-called rumors?
I think every single liberal out there should have to pay reparations to conservatives for the lies they spewed, echoed, and supported regarding January 6th, 2021… NO EXCUSES, whatsoever.
I think Donald Trump should sue the DNC into bankruptcy for what they did to him regarding 1/6/21.
#Tucker
Oh yeah, and I think President Trump should also sue the MSM into oblivion. See my guy Steve’s video post above.
Not in context, but Trump is not President. He is a former president. We don’t do permanent titles. Not busting your chops, just a pet peeve, especially when the media does it.

So what do the Jets do now? Any guesses?

Or Lamar
It’s been hard to get into FA, with no money yet
Lots of talent on our FA list
Will we have better in 2023, than we had in 2022, based on talent?
Better roster in 2023?
Tough question
Yeah, and depends on what approach we take with restructures, if we clear 45m as reported we can do, 16m going to the current over the cap, I’d say we should start out the year better than we ended 2022, considering those injured
https://abcnews.go.com/International/2-americans-kidnapped-mexico-found-dead-2-found/story?id=97681554
Terrible situation, they need to bring those responsible for this to justice
Who in their right mind would travel via car into Mexico these days?
It would be like a white person going to Watts in South Central LA after dark
With 44 players signed we’re 17m over currently, think it’s a given Jones will be cut post June 1st, but that won’t help the current cap situation, it won’t help sign the rookies either, since those to sign will likely be a wash with the guys they replace on top 51
I expect to see several 1 year contracts signed after June 1st, hopefully some of our current FAs

I absolutely agree with you on this. I titled Donald Trump as President to show my total disdain for the media when they do it. Truth be told, it’s a huge pet peeve of mine as well. You’ll notice I called him Donald Trump in the post above the one you’re referring to. Then, I got mad… LOL.
Good post.
Holy Shit… I fingered it out. 💩
Hate to break the bank for a veteran FA CB at this point, after we just cleared good space. But if we must, I’d go get James Bradberry.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BradJa00.htm
Spotrac has James Bradberry’s market value at $15.1M/yr. WOW.
What up peoples ?
Oh and nice ton of writes Mike E !! I’ve read them all and read the blog daily.
Well if the Jets want Lamar he is available for 2 number ones and a ridiculous full guarantee contract
Ravens did the non-exclusive tag? It makes sense. They can always match.
Carr and Smith didn’t get that big guaranteed money. If no one offers it to Jackson, hopefully it means the league has shown only the Browns are that dumb.
Not sure why they didn’t do the exclusive tag. They would have more bargaining power for trade value
Here are my guesses.
First, if nothing gets done, they get him at a relatively cheap 32 mil.
Second, If they signed him to the exclusive tag, he doesn’t get to negotiate with other teams. I’m betting because the two sides are so far apart, the Ravens are saying, go out there and see what the market is. If it’s what you think it is, we’ll talk about that.
I don’t think any team is going to offer him 200+ mil guaranteed, and I think the guaranteed money is the hold up.
I see people talking about how the Ravens will only get two 1sts. I think the non-exclusive means they intend to keep him.
Aaron Rodgers has become as annoying as Brett Favre
From Barry Jackson’s article: “Roby, Bradberry, Sutton and Dean would all help the Dolphins’ cornerback room, among others on that list.”
Market values, per Spotrac
Roby: ???
Bradberry: $15.1M/yr
Sutton: $7.6M/yr
Dean: $16.5M/yr
Mike Pouncey signing with the Dolphins
A one day contract so he can retire a Dolphin. He and his brother were talented, but were clowns and not good people. Never was a leader hear, or worse even, he lead in the wrong direction. (molly and strippers)

^
They showed who they were with the Hernandez stuff. Id prefer he didn’t retire a Dolphin.
I say screw it, if we’re going for a vet CB, let it be Patrick Peterson. He’s NOT a shadow of his former self, though he’s going to be 33 years old by the beginning of the season. He’s coming off a decent season and Spotrac has his market value at $6.4M/yr.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/P/PetePa00.htm
Last season, Peterson had 5 INTs (2nd most of his career), 91 INTs yards (most of his career), 15 PDs (2nd most of his career), 66 tackles (most in his career), 3 TFL (tied for most in his career), and his advanced stats (which only go back to 2018 at Pro Football Reference) are among the best in his career.
This cat is NOT chopped liver.
Oh yeah, and he’s a native Floridian, born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale. Attended Blanche Ely High School.
Well at least we can’t sign Jackson because we don’t have a number 1 this year so we don’t have to put up with that nonsense
Now it’s just the Brady stuff for a few more months 😭

Great. You’ll be receiving your re entry test momentarily. 😉
And welcome back!
Thank You Herd. Great to be back.
So here is my FA wishlist once FA opens in just over a week…
— The usual suspects from our ’22 season (ie: Elandon Roberts, Nik Needham, etc)
— QB Case Keenum (knows our Offense, being he was drafted into it under Gary Kubiak, a consummate Shanahan disciple, will come relatively cheap)
— TE Hayden Hurst (blocking TE who can catch)
— CB Patrick Peterson (he’s still got it, after all these years)
— ILB/MLB Tremaine Edmunds (for obvious reasons, though probably a pipedream at this point due to money. Bobby Wagner or Eric Kendricks would be welcome, too)
I do not want to leave out my sincere will to re-sign both Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson. These two are all but mandatory to re-sign, IMO.

Bad contract for Giants
Think the guaranteed money is close to 100m
Caught the end of this on ESPN
He played well for the Giants last year and this is what middle of the pack QBs cost these days.
40 mil is top 10
Plus incentives that could push him near 50 mil. Of course if he hits those incentives, the Giants are probably fine with that.
I meant where he’d rank as a QB, not his contract. He still has to play even better, but last year we saw the signs that he was ascending.
Gotcha
Wow, the money he got wasn’t far off what he was supposedly asking…which was scoffed at.
These QB deals are crazy. Interesting that the guaranteed money for these deals are all coming in around 100 mil.
It’s fing insane what average players are getting
Mainly QBs.
It’s crazy, but I guess it’s what the market will bear. It says a lot that Jones got that deal with one good year
He’s still young and he can run like Josh Allen. He can make every throw. He really doesn’t have any physical limitations. It was always about playing smarter with him. Daboll got him to do that.
I’m not sure I even watched one Giants game last year other than the playoff games which he had one good game and one terrible game.
I watched most of them. The Giants were very thin at WR. They don’t have a top TE. It was Jones and Barkley on offense and an opportunistic defense that got them into the playoffs. They were over matched against the Eagles.
No matter how many times our team says this people still continue with the move on from Tua stories.
Interesting that the guaranteed money for these deals are all coming in around 100 mil.
Kong, I hope Cleveland gets crushed for their stupidity and guaranteeing all $250 million to handjob sexual predator
I’m right there with ya, bro.
Geno Smith got 3 years $105M for having a breakout season in his 10th season. He’ll be 33 in October. What we’re seeing is teams know if you have at least a competent QB that gives you a chance to compete, you have to pay them. Because if you don’t have a QB your season is shot. Teams that are looking at 2 or 3 QBs in their lineup every year don’t have good seasons.
35 mil puts Geno just outside the top 10 and probably middle of the pack when this offseason plays out. That sounds about right for what he did. The Giants are giving Jones 5-13 million more per year (based on incentives).
Not sure that is a good deal for them. I’m not sure anyone thinks Jones is a top 10 QB last year or in the near future (or a top 3 QB if he hits his incentives). But if the guaranteed money is similar- in the 100 mil range, it probably doesn’t matter. It’s a QB players market right now and these guys are cashing in.
Those incentives are a big deal. If they are based on how far the Giants go in the playoffs, that makes more sense, but if they are numbers based, they could literally be paying him as the #3 QB in the league…
I’m really curious to see the guaranteed money for Jones. Like I said, if it’s in the 100 mil range, then the extra ‘per year’ doesn’t mean as much since the Giants still have basically the same out $$$-wise as the Seahawks and Saints do with their QBs who got less per year.
The team is betting on him to keep progressing. They wouldn’t have paid him if they didn’t believe in him. We’ll find out if it was right or wrong in a couple of years. But like you said, QBs are getting paid.
True that. And as you mentioned, QBS that get wins are valued commodities, even if they aren’t top 5, you still have to keep them since there are only 5 top 5 guys and not everyone can have one, lol.
Yeah like our own situation this past season. Outside of Tua our backups won one game, 11-6 last game of the year against the Jets and a game ending safety. It was all FGs. LOL
If our QBs were Bridgewater and Thompson all year what do you think our record would have been? I’d say probably 4-13.
shudder
I don’t want to even think about how bad we’d have been with Teddy and Skyler as 1 and 2 all year, lol.
When it comes to Tua, the concussions are the issue and everyone knows that. That’s really the only thing he needs to improve on based on what we saw last year. Protect yourself, don’t put your body in awkward positions trying to make a play that isn’t there. Throw it away, run and slide feet first – not diving head first, or just go down and take the sack. 3rd and 15 is better than having to leave the game and missing more games.
Finally caught up…thank you Mike E.
I watch a lot of Giants games here in Connecticut. By the end of last year Daniel Jones was playing really good and he had absolutely no receivers at all
That is high praise since you have never been a fan of his.
^
He was a different QB by the end of the year.
Agreed. He was quicker with his reads and cut down on the turnovers and there were times when nobody was open so he had to run. His running skills get overlooked, he’s actually one of the elite running QBs in the game. If the Giants upgrade their receiving core they will make a jump. Retaining Barkley is huge because he’s a dual threat. They’ve got some young potential on the OL and on defense.
Next year Jones and Barkley are only 18% of the cap. That is really good news for the teams top 2 players
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/lamar-jackson-rumors-dolphins-raiders-among-five-teams-not-pursuing-qb-after-he-received-non-exclusive-tag/
These rumor guys kill me. Wasn’t Atlanta supposed to be one of the really big players in the Lamar Jackson hunt, and now it’s being put out there they aren’t interested…along with the Dolphins, Raiders, Panthers, and Commanders.
LOL, basically most of the teams that still need a QB, along with us (we obviously aren’t looking for a new starter as we on this board all knew). Things could go 180, but right now the Ravens are looking smart IMO
Teams might know what Lamar Jackson is looking for and they’re all like geez! Uhmmm… yeah… no…
Could Houston be the dark horse? They have picks and cap. New HC in DeMeco Ryans who might be part of a plan to get the QB and he’ll coach up the defense.
Seems like a new league story is that the NFL is colluding not to pay Lamar Jackson what deshawn Watsson received…
I don’t know about the “collusion” aspect
And I question it bc we are one of the teams being used as evidence even though I think the organization has been clear about wanting Tua as their QB
But aside from that
I never really took a long look at Watsons numbers until now
Wow ! I almost don’t blame the league for preventing that if they are in fact preventing it
So to reiterate – I think it’s far fetched
But I think it’s justifiable if true…lol
Look at Watsons numbers and how it affects the cap
😲
It is the NFL’s version of the Bobby Bonilla contract
Well put.
Cleveland did a stupid thing for the rest of the league.
If they don’t win a Super Bowl in the next few years it is once again the mistake by the lake.
Cleveland has a pretty good team. They are probably a QB away. If Watson returns to form they may have the last laugh
They do but it can also come apart. Add one of the better QBs with some off the field issues, but that contract fucked everything up.
Not once again. Still – the mistake by the lake
I personally don’t think Watson will returns to firm. I don’t think his heart and head are into playing football
No he probably wants to do porn, and now he has the money to put it altogether. It just won’t be public viewing.
It wouldn’t surprise me if the league colluded to keep guaranteed money down, not just specifically for Jackson. You’d think the league would be savvy enough by now to not leave a trail if they did collude.
Kind of like this. LOL
LOL
“is your wife a goer? Know what I mean?”
LMAO!!! They had human behavior nailed in the 60’s. It’s still the same.
Do you remember this guy? It reminds me of the same mindset.

To Watson? This guy is worse than Watson but on the same creep level.
Yes
Kong, this is the classic. LOL
😂 The beginning when he’s popping his head up over the other guy- the look on his face- that alone kills me. And he just starts in…
“He asked him knowingly” 😂
Absolutely. LMAO!!! Hey… that’s the guy I must encounter to make him totally uncomfortable. Hello squire!!! LOL
Jackson is already showing that he’s wearing down. That means he’s probably going to start running less. That makes him an average QB in today’s NFL. He’s only had one really good passing year. Why would I want to sign him to a huge/long term contract? I bet Baltimore would love for someone to want him so they can get the picks. And, if he truly is that great, teams should be jumping at the chance to sign him, shouldn’t they? Even 2 1st round picks is nothing for a high end franchise QB. Baltimore has always been one of the smartest personnel teams in the league. I think they know what they’re doing.
Good to see Randy and his bucket around again .. good to see Doggie finally figured out a computer as well 😊
Hey, keyboards are tough with no opposable thumbs!
Hey Doggy! Welcome back!
I was thinking about our pass rush and it should be pretty f’n stout next season with Ogbah back from the torn triceps along with Phillips and Chubb.
I forgot / didn’t realize that Ogbah lead the league in disrupting QB drop backs in the first two years playing with us (18 sacks and 45 QB hits!) Even without the new scheme we should NOT have to blitz to get to the QB.
It was a disappointing season for him only playing 9 games (and Injured) Here is to a fully healthy year for Ogbah, Chubb and Phillips!
I didn’t get a chance to Oink it earlier
But welcome back both Doggy and Randy
