Now that A-aron is coming to the Jets, there’s no reason to pick up players that won’t make an immediate impact for this team. We have a window to win, and we need to make sure whatever players we add in this draft can help our team right now. This could be a TE, and you all know which TE I want, but in case you don’t, it’s Georgia TE Darnell Washington. I think this kid is ready to play right now, he can block, and he’s an underrated receiver. A RB like Jahmyr Gibbs from Alabama could be an electric player who could see some immediate playing time and spark this offense. We could also look to solidify the O-line, because each and every one of us know that we need a healthy Tua to win. We can’t have a leaky O-line, and there are a couple of question marks on our line at the moment. To be fair, most NFL teams have the same situation, but we have one excellent LT with a a very real injury history, Terron Armstead. Armstead somehow played 13 games last season, but he was questionable every single week with injuries. Our LG might have the confidence of the FO and the coaches, but Liam Eichenberg does not have the full confidence of the Dolphins fanbase. The same goes for RT Austin Jackson, 2020 1st RD pick, who will be protecting Tua’s blind side.There’s a couple of OT’s that may be around our first pick, North Dakota State’s Cody Mauch and Ohio State’s Dawand Jones. If we’re looking to upgrade the interior line, there’s Minnesota’s John Michael Schmidt and TCU’s Steve Avila.
It seems obvious to me that we are playing within a 2 year window. Our QB is relatively inexpensive this year and next, our most dynamic player, WR Tyreek Hill has declared he will stop playing in 2025, and our roster is as set as it’s going to be, many players on short deals. Our time is now, and with Aaron Rodgers playing QB for the NY Jets, most likely for 2 years, their window matches our window. I think our defensive roster at the moment is the best, most talented defensive roster we’ve had in decades. Our defense is ready. Add in the fact that we have DC Vic Fangio calling the shots for our defense now, I feel like we could be special. We brought back the entire RB room from last year, not because they were great, they were effective, but not great. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if we looked to a young RB to spark this group. We know who we have at TE, and Tim can continue to stroke Durham Smythe, Eric Saubert and Tanner Conner, but realistically, this is a weak TE group. Smythe is a decent blocker, meh as a receiver. Saubert seems like he’s a blocking TE who is a blocking TE. Who knows what Conner can be, we haven’t taken off the wrapping paper yet. We may have to move up to get the RB, TE, or OL we want, but that shouldn’t stop us. Just get better, our roster is set as it’s going to be, whomever we add needs to be worthy!
Next year we can add some more depth players, but with limited picks in this draft, we need quality, not quantity. Our time is NOW! What I’m saying is I don’t want to see us trading back and picking up 2 more picks so we can draft guys who will struggle to make the roster, let alone see the field. That’s not where we’re at. I’m sure Chris Grier is well aware of this, so I wouldn’t bet on that happening. Usually I’m pumped up about the draft, but this one is not the same, armed with only a 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th RD picks. We’ve been trading away picks to get the players we wanted, so now we have to use the picks to do the same. I know we all have different ideas of what the right picks should be, Hulk may get angry if our first pick is a RB and not an OL. He may be right, but it sure does seem as if the coaching staff feels that Eich and Jackson are the guys going forward. We’ll see in a couple of days. Doubt we’ll be picking in RD 1, Stephen Ross made sure of that. I wouldn’t mind if we picked early in RD 2, earlier than #51, our current first pick.

I’m glad we didn’t trade up into the first. We can’t keep jettisoning future picks every year- that’s going to catch up with us with all the big contracts we are handing out on top of that. That said, I could really see us trading up into the low 40’s if someone we want is still there. I do hope that we can grab Washington from Georgia, or a plug and play LG.

Took my favorite RB and LB in the first. They “reached” according to every mock I did, but they got some really good players so next year when they are probowlers will anyone think they were reaches? grumble grumble grumble.
The way the first round landed, it is clear that the GMs (who get paid to do this job) did not see the TE position the same way pundits do. Some predicted as many as 5 TEs in first round. lol.
Nevertheless, the first half of the 2nd round has about 6-8 guys who easily could have been first round picks. A LOT of great value coming up in picks 33-45. IF it gets to pick 40 and Mayer or Washington is still sitting there, I think they are worth trying to trade up for. I think both of these guys are ‘violent’ football players … physical play, hard contact, having to go against top LB talent … both are ‘hard hat, lunch pail, WILLING Blockers’ day one starters at a position of real need.

With Gibbs gone, and two years before we have to pay Tua, they could slip Dalvin in there.
So IMHO the worst 4 first round picks were the DB to NYG and Mazi to Dallas because they might be enough to sway those games to L for us this season.
Or long term the 2 Edge rushers going to Cincy and KC are even worse because that toughens up the weakest spots on teams we need to beat in playoffs every year and we are weakest against those positions.
Son of a Father – so sorry to hear your sad news. I think I posted at the time when he passed that my dad had vascular dementia, so I’ve walked a little way in your shoes. Similar to your pa, dad was 90 when he “shuffled off this mortal coil” and prior to that had been in care for the best part of three years after 3 hip ops. This prevented him from walking – at first without a frame, and latterly at all, so I’m familiar with the physical and mental toll your situation exacts on families. My thoughts and support are with you from afar. His life has been taken, but your fond memories can’t be and will always be with you. I hope these give you strength through the coming weeks, months and years. My sincere condolences.
Having to play the jest twice a year makes their getting stronger at the edge very bad for us but I’m not sure Mcdonald is as big an improvement for them. Their defense and HC are already really strong though so that is not good to give them more speed in their pass rush.

The Jets will be a tough team this season. They already had a better defense than us, now they should have a functioning offense with Aaron Rodgers. If Breece Hall comes back fully healthy, he’s a better back than anyone we have on the roster. They also have upgraded their receiving corps, adding Lazard and Hardman to Garret Wilson and Corey Davis. I’m not saying the Jets are great, but to act like they aren’t a threat is kind of ridiculous

I think with the Bills, Jest, and Dolphins, each team has the pieces to win the division. It’s a matter of injuries and which team puts it all together, but the potential is there for all 3.
I think Jalen Ramsey acquisition is just as special as the Rodgers one. And they cancel out Josh Allen.
I think Fangio cancels out the high quality of Saleh and McDermott.
I think Hill cancels out Diggs and Breece Hall.

I still like Tippmann. Prefer him at our second pick, but he may not last that long. His ceiling is high.
I didn’t concede the division, just pointed out some facts. The Jets defense was better than our defense last year. Aaron Rodgers is a better QB than any QB the Jets had last season. We improved our defense in the off-season and I think adding Fangio will make a huge difference with our current personnel on defense, as well as anyone else we add. There’s no reason to slight the Jets, unless you can’t face reality. It should be a very tough fight for the division, and that’s assuming our QB1 stays healthy.
You can add our LT to the more important list of players we need to stay healthy.
