So now our schedule is out, and as we can see, it won’t be an easy one. We start off the season with back to back road games, the first against the Los Angeles Chargers who were 10-7 last season and narrowly lost to the upstart Jacksonville Jaguars in their playoff game, 31-30. Then off to play our division foe the New England Patriots. We come home to face the Denver Broncos, who were a huge disappointment last season, but you have to think Russell Wilson will bounce back from an awful season with the Broncos. Then we travel to Orchard Park NY to play our nemesis Buffalo Bills. We did finally beat the Bills 21-19 early last season, but then lost the next 2 clashes, including a closely fought playoff matchup with our 3rd string QB Skylar Thompson at the helm 34-31. None of the 3 games between the Dolphins and Bills were decided by more than 3 points. I feel like we have improved our team, it’s not going to be any easier for them.
Our next home game is October 8th when we host the NY Giants. The Giants made the playoffs last year and upset the Minnesota Vikings in their house 31-24, but then got wiped playing in Philadelphia against the SB participant Philadelphia Eagles 38-7. The Giants will struggle some with the heat early in the season in Miami. We then host the Carolina Panthers, and possibly may face the #1 draft pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, QB Bryce Young. We then face off against the NFC’s Suberbowl representative Philadelphia Eagles on October 22nd at Lincoln Financial field. Like I said, tough schedule.
After the Eagles on the road, we come home to play our division rivals for the 2nd time of the season, the New England Patriots on Sunday October 29th. Despite the fact the Patriots looked pretty bad last season, they finished only one game behind us last season. The Patriots drafted one of the best DB’s in this year’s draft, CB Christian Gonzalez. They’ll need all the help they can get! After hosting the patriots we leave the USA to play an international game and Prime Time Matchup against the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany. At long last, after the arduous task of traveling out of the country to face the SB Champs, we get our much needed BYE Week in Week 10.
We come out of the BYE Week to host the Las Vegas Raiders, potentially led by former 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The Raiders jettisoned Derek Carr and bring in a similarly talented QB, albeit one with a history of injured seasons. We’ll see how that works out. We then travel to New Jersey to play the NY Jets in another Prime Time Matchup, this one a FRIDAY game at MetLife Stadium. We hit the road again to then face the next to last of our NFC East foes, the Washington Commanders. The Commanders nabbed 2 DB’s in the 2023 NFL Draft, back to back, snaring M’s fave Emmanuel Forbes at #16, and then another CB, Jartaviue Martin 31 picks later. They will have a tough task covering against our offense.
We come for a Monday Night Football matchup against the Tennessee Titans. Will we face our old pal Ryan Tannehill, or will the Titans give the reins to rookie draftee Will Levis, who languished at the draft the entire first round surrounded by beautiful women. My heart breaks for the kid, really. The Jets come to visit us to play the rubber match between us just 3 weeks later from our last matchup. We then host our 3rd home game in a row, and the final NFC East opponent, the Dallas Cowboys.
The last 2 games of our 2023 schedule begin on the road again to face the Baltimore Ravens. Why do we seem to play them every season? Nevermore, nevermore, nevermore. Last season’s game was an absolute thriller though, with QB Tua Tagovailoa finishing off one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history, erasing a 21 point 4th QTR deficit to beat the Ravens 42-38. Our regular season finale will be us hosting the Buffalo Bills. As previously stated, we played the Bills very tough last season, even without our 1st or 2nd string QB.My hope is that we close the gap even more this year, and overtake the Bills. I also hope we face both the Ravens and Bills with our #1 QB, Tua Tagovailoa, completing his first 17 game season. Nothing against newly acquired backup Mike White, but I don’t want to see him in a game this season unless we pull Tua because we have a 30 point lead in the 4th QTR. We need our guy to be healthy, and of course the entire team to stay healthy, especially #72, LT Terron Armstead.
Fest deliberations are most likely underway, votes are being tabulated. This could potentially be the biggest Fest ever, I hope we get lots of people to make it this year. Our team is on the precipice of greatness, we’re close. It’s not easy to make that next step into the elite, but with McDaniel and Fangio, I feel like it’s going to happen. I felt like our defense was better than it played, and I still contend that Zero Coverage Blitz scheme wasn’t viable with the cast of characters we had in place. Fangio is not an all or nothing guy like Josh Boyer was. Fangio is more malleable, flexible in his approach, and he’s the opposite of Boyer, he adapts to who we’re playing and who he has to employ against them. Can’t wait for the season, and of course the Fest!

Here is a possible pick up for us when he is healthy. NT Robert Cooper from FSU. He was an UDFA by the Seahawks. If it were not for him coming off surgery, he would have gotten drafted, IMO. He’s not a stud but would be like a John Jenkins.

The flexibility that Van Ginkel can bring to both the outside and inside linebacker groups would allow a rotation on the outside with fellow pass-rushers Bradley Chubb and Jaelan Phillips. On the interior, Van Ginkel could give breaks here and there to either Jerome Baker and/or new free agent David Long Jr.
Duke Riley will also help spell Long and Baker on the inside, but with the outside and inside ability, the goal will be to keep Van Ginkel on the field a whole lot more than last season. Unbelievably, at times, Van Ginkel’s 2022 seasonal usage was limited to just 29% of the year’s defensive snaps, which was a far cry from 2021’s 71%.

This plan should keep him more at that 70%-plus range, which would make him a key member of this linebacking group and could open up the potential Van Ginkel has shown in his role-playing thus far in Miami. It’s also to be noted, that Van Ginkel was the Dolphins’ leader in special team tackles last year with 12.
On the offensive side of things, penciled-in right tackle Austin Jackson showed up looking to be in phenomenal shape. How that translates on the field remains to be seen until pads come on in the summer, as well as hitting some opponents other than teammates.

FEST UPDATE
Seat draft gave us what we have gotten used to the last 3-4 years. One of those corner sections off the edge of the end zone. Bad news is this time as nosebleed as it gets, but we’ve had that before. What was different was is on the home side. Should let people walk by all the stuff at the home entrance side before heading up.
I’ll note that seat draft started at 9 AM for all games and we were called at 10 AM. So this is really about as good as we could get. Group tickets have gotten tough as more seasons have been sold.

The Dolphins also drafted Michigan tackle Ryan Hayes, who could even work at guard, and still have undrafted rookie free agent tackle James Tunstall, who could all provide a little competition in camp for Jackson.
With other tackles fighting for spots like Robert Jones, Kion Smith, Kendall Lamm and Geron Christian, at least entering the process, Jackson is seemingly locked-in to work. Like the Van Ginkel experiment, the conclusion remains to be seen, but at the very least, positive encouragement and momentum on both fronts are good ways to start 2023’s offseason.
What has been seen the last two days, has been the blazing speed of rookie running back De’Von Achane. A third-round pick in this April’s draft, and one that was much to the immediate delight of McDaniel upon his selection, Achane could factor heavily in total yardage for the Dolphins right away.
With his speed and shiftiness, Achane will be utilized as a runner, receiver and return man, making him a candidate to potentially challenge a rookie record. That belongs to Ted Ginn Jr, who holds the Dolphins’ seasonal all-purpose yardage record for a rookie (2,086).

I like it! And I feel the same about USC’s C/IOL Brett Neilon, once he is healthy.
In 2007, Ginn returned kicks and punts for 1,663 yards and added 420 receiving yards and three rushing yards. With Achane’s speed and versatility, it’s becoming more likely with each OTA rep that he could challenge this record. The overall total yardage record for Miami is currently held by Ricky Williams, who recorded 2,216 yards in his epic 2002 season.
Achane turned heads and impressed the media Tuesday. As beat writer Omar Kelly reported, the rookie made a great sideline catch which was placed beautifully by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa just out of the reach of a linebacker. That’s music to the ears of Dolphins fans.
Another worthy bullet point was the on-field attendance of defensive backs Nik Needham and Brandon Jones. Injured in consecutive weeks last season, the pair were seen doing some light jogging, but each is progressing well with their individual rehabs and could even avoid significant missed time, if any.
The Dolphins aren’t working on-field for OTA’s today, as they’ll resume Thursday, the 25th.

It could be Holland or Brandon Jones or Deshon Elliott dropping into robber from what looks like a safety blitz,

they do blitz and
AVG slides into robber to disrupt the intermediate passing game with his height and speed and size equal to the seambusting TEs.
For sure the primo robber back is Ramsey, but you don’t want the QB to depend on him being that and read it as a key, so you’d need another CB who can swap between boundary corner and slot coverage on any given play, no matter who the WRs are.

There’s rarely ever a middle ground when it comes to opinions on Tua Tagovailoa.
Either he’s the best thing since sliced bread was created, or he’s the NFL equivalent of Spam (no offense to Spam lovers out there … it’s pretty decent when sliced thin and fried).
Oddly, two influential NFL analysts — ESPN’s Louis Riddick and NBC’s Sports’ Phil Simms — hold polar opposite positions on the Miami Dolphins quarterback.
Riddick has been a Tagovailoa supporter and advocate since his University of Alabama days, and has been unwavering with his opinion that Tagovailoa will ascend to elite status if he can stay healthy.
During a Thursday ESPN chat about Lamar Jackson and how far he can carry the Baltimore Ravens, Riddick claimed the AFC East is going through Miami, mainly because of Tagovailoa.
“You’re going to deal with Tua because Miami is going to win the AFC East,” Riddick said in a comment that came out of left field.
While I don’t agree with that opinion because Buffalo is the reigning AFC East champ for three straight seasons, I can understand where Riddick is coming from.
As for Simms’ opinions of Tagovailoa, I suspect he loves his position as the primary nemesis for Tuanon because trolling Tagovailoa’s rabid fan base is the only justification I can come up with for ranking New England quarterback Mac Jones one spot ahead of Tagovailoa in his annual QB ratings.
Simms has Tagovailoa ranked 21st, one spot behind his Alabama backup, and one spot ahead of Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, and I want to dissect his reason for that ranking line by line.
Let’s begin. My interjections are in ALL CAPS.
SIMM’S LATEST OPINION ON TUA
Simms: “He runs that offense to a T. (TRUE.) He arguably has the quickest release in football (ALSO TRUE. I’M GLAD SOMEONE WITH HIS CREDENTIALS SAID IT.)
“Other than (Aaron) Rodgers, he’s the best RPO quarterback in football. (THAT’S DEBATABLE, BUT LET US ACCEPT THE PRAISE.)
“But his arm is below-average for an NFL starter. (IT’S AVERAGE. SIMMS IS MERELY STICKING TO HIS LONG-HELD NARRATIVE, WHICH PREDICTED TAGOVAILOA WOULD STRUGGLE IN THE NFL.)
“It doesn’t create much on its own. Nobody would watch Tua’s film and go, ‘It’s a laser.’ ” (HE’S STATING THE OBVIOUS. BUT THEY WOULD MARVEL AT HIS ACCURACY, AS MANY HAVE.)
“When you break it down, there are so many yards and plays left on the field… (ISN’T THAT EVERY QUARTERBACK? MIAMI PRODUCED THE SIXTH-BEST OFFENSE IN THE NFL, DESPITE STRUGGLING FOR THE SEASON’S FINAL SIX GAMES.)
“The variety of releases is awesome [(MORE PRAISE, WHICH IS SURPRISING). He’s not a great runner, but he’s a good athlete (THIS IS TRUE)….He’s not durable. It’s been an issue his whole career. (FACTS.)
“He plays small in the pocket, he loses control of power throws down the field, and when teams took away some of those trick plays he couldn’t deliver. (VALID. LOOK AT THOSE DECEMBER GAMES FOR PROOF. DID MIKE McDANIEL ADJUST?)
“He’s the perfect fit for this offense. I would run those same things with Tua, too, but that doesn’t mean the 20 other guys in front of him can’t do it either, and then some other stuff as well.”
Let us stop right there because we already know Jones can’t do what Tagovailoa does.
IS TUA REALLY QB No. 21?
And neither can Arizona’s Kyler Murray (who lacks the accuracy and anticipation on throws), Detroit’s Jared Goff (no consistency), Tennessee’s Ryan Tannehill (no pocket presence), Minnesota’s Kirk Cousins (stat padder), New York Giants’ Daniel Jones (he had one good season), and Seattle’s Geno Smith (phenomenal 2023 performance, but that’s one solid season as well).
Counting Mac Jones, that’s seven quarterbacks I’d argue Tagovailoa should be rated higher than on everyone’s list, even his biggest critic (which is Simms).
If upside is factored in, I’d argue Tagovailoa is a top 10 quarterback in 2023 if he can stay healthy.
On some, (say, Kirk Cousins) you might be able to twist my arm a little to put that quarterback ahead of Tagovailoa. But it’s all subjective, especially if we take out the quarterback’s age and salary.
But there are also some starting quarterbacks who are given too much praise for doing far less than Tagovailoa, who was the top-rated passer of the 2022 season, and the quarterback who delivered the most big passing plays in the NFL last season.
Has Trevor Lawrence proven without a shadow of doubt he’s better than Tagovailoa in his two seasons as Jacksonville’s starter? I’d argue that he hasn’t.
But Simms clearly believes the Jaguars have a better future with Lawrence as the team’s starter than Miami does with Tagovailoa, and he has a right to his opinion.
For all we know, injuries or another concussion might spoil Tagovailoa’s 2023 season, and career. But that could be the case for any projected starting quarterback in the NFL.
All we can do at this point is evaluate the body of work so far, and Tagovailoa has a 21-13 record as an NFL starter the past three years, despite all of the challenges he’s faced (a coach who disliked him, a disaster for an offensive line the past three seasons, lackluster weapons till last year, a lackluster rushing game for three seasons).
Only time, health, and the season’s outcome will help us determine who is right, and who was wrong in the Great Tua Debate.
Simms is a tool for sure…not sure what tool he is good for though…lol

It’s been this way since Trump was elected. The Democrats spent 4 years both denying the election results or tainting them due to what they said was “Russian Interference”, and then tried to oust Trump the rest of the time by impeaching him. Even after he’s out, they’re still trying to take him down. They’ll do the same to DeSantis, and Trump and the Republicans did the same to Biden denying the election results claiming the election was “Stolen”. I don’t see an end in sight.

To be honest, Mike E, it goes back to before Trump was elected. This recent ‘turbulence’ began with Obama’s 2x (or was it 3x) fake birth certificate from Hawaii.
Now I’m not trying to get into the “birther’ debate, but FACT: the first two (or was it three?) versions of Obama’s birth certificate that were released to the public were FAKES… and devoid of the proper credentials stamped on it. Again, FACT.

Actually it all started during Bill Clinton’s presidency. He was a centrist president but he surrounded himself with too many left wingers and had his scandals. The conservatives pounced on that. From that point on the opposition has called for impeachment. Nobody respects and accepts the results anymore. That started with the hanging chads in Florida with GW and Gore. That’s also around the time red and blue states became prominent to the public and not just within pollster circles.
Think about it. They’re telling you that your vote doesn’t matter while ad campaigns tell you just get out and vote. It’s a sham and big government does things incrementally over time until it seems normal. Exactly where they want us. I believe Trump is part of that too.

I am going to go with Offense (barring key injuries to Tua or OL) mainly due to being in year 2 and most know the system outside newbie’s. Added some good blocking TE’s and another weapon in Achane. We have the same holes on OL as last year but our depth with Feeney and Wynn is much better especially if they bring back Shell.
Defense might have some hiccups early on with the new system. We upgraded at LB and DB but did nothing to bolster DL depth as far as another vet.
I agree we need more depth at DT I expect them to sign someone soon

I believe he’ll overcome them this year, between his thicker lower half, his martial arts and his recognition of the problem, he’ll stay healthy all year, but until he does…
When he’s healthy he’s exceptional

I give Tua a mulligan for the Brian Flores era….. he is the QB we seen last season and year two if he stays healthy, we will go deep into the playoffs
