Dolphins fans have a lot to be excited about!!

A lot of things have happened last year, trades bringing in top tier talent like WR Tyreek Hill, DE/OLB Bradley Chubb, a few key FA signings, notably C/OG Connor Williams and LT Terron Armstead. With less than a handful of 2023 NFL Draft picks, the front office once again entered the trade market and acquired a huge piece for our defense, CB/S/LB Jalen Ramsey. There were a few FA signings, LB David Long formerly of the Tennessee Titans, S DeShon Elliott from the Detroit Lions, LB Malik Reed from the Steelers, TE Eric Saubert from the Broncos, WR Braxton Berrios and OG Dan Feeney from the Jets and more recently, we’ve signed a couple of OT’s, former 1st RD picks Isaiah Wynn from the Patriots, and Cedric Ogbuehi from the Jets. Besides player personnel, we also signed one of the defensive minds in the NFL, DC Vic Fangio.

I can’t remember a player added via trade that had an impact like Tyreek Hill. He was better than anyone could have hoped, he completely changed the offense, the game, everything. He’s a dynamic force that even when teams employ multiple personnel to try to contain him, is still able to impact the game. On the downside, Bradley Chubb was less, much less that advertised as a Dolphins defender last season. I think that changes significantly this season with Vic Fangio. I can’t wait to see Phillips and Chubb feast with Fangio running the D. Fangio, no doubt was behind acquiring Jalen Ramsey, who will deployed at multiple positions, but the key here is we have so much depth, with S Brandon Jones returning, and the addition of S DeShon Elliott so that Fangio can move guys around without missing a beat. The NFL is set up for parity, but our depth right now both on offense and defense is the best it’s been in a very long time.

Although we didn’t have a lot of picks in this year’s draft, that doesn’t mean we didn’t add valuable players, quite the contrary. Our first pick, CB Cam Smith will have opportunities to play this season. I can’t say he will be the starter outside Game 1, but I do believe he could be before the end of the season. He was a pick both for now, and definitely for the future. CB Xavien Howard is on the decline, and while he possesses excellent ball skills, we have seen his speed, mostly recovery speed diminish. I love that we re-signed AVG, and added Malik Reed and last year’s first pick (3rd RD pick) Channing Tindall will all be key depth guys to help rush the passer. Our depth is truly impressive, with starters DE Zach Sieler, NT Raekwon Davis and DE Christian Wilkins, and then the LB crew of Jaelan Phillips, David Long, Jerome Baker and Bradley Chubb, CB’s Xavien Howard and Jalen Ramsey, along with safeties Brandon Jones and Jevon Holland. There will be a lot of mixing and matching personnel. Now keep in mind, this is just the defense I’m talking about!

Like I said, having only 4 picks doesn’t mean we didn’t bring in impact players, and I think our second pick, RB De’Von Achane may provide a ton of excitement this season. He will get touches as a return man, both punts and kicks. He will see the field as a RB, and he will be a demon as a receiver out of the backfield. With Hill, Waddle, Berrios, Anderson, Cracraft and even draft pick Elijah Higgins, you simply can’t cover ALL-THAT-SPEED. A-Chain is going to be fun to watch. Now I didn’t mention QB Mike White as one of our FA acquisitions, but let’s face it, we were ridiculously unlucky with our QB’s last season. Tua’s fragility has been well documented, but how many times did our 2nd and 3rd string QB’s get hurt, and a few times in the same game. Mike White also got knocked out of action, but he was tossed around like a rag doll by Buffalo that one game. I expect him, if needed to be better than what we had last season in Teddy Bridgewater and rookie Skylar Thompson. White was impressive when given decent protection, and he played through some tough rib injuries. We all hope Tua remains unscathed the entire season, but I believe if we need Mike White for a game or two, he can deliver.

On special teams, we have new punter, Jake Bailey formerly of the Patriots. K Jason Sanders looks to have a bounce back season. Braxton Berrios, and draftee De’Von Achane will be the return men. With the excellent depth we have on our defense, and offense, our ST’s coverage should be much better than last season with all the injuries. It’s not crazy to expect both our offense and defense to both be top units, certainly top 10 or better. When was the last time you felt this way, and had legitimate conviction about it? So, be excited Dolphins fans, really, be excited! It’s OK, I know somewhere inside there’s that Dolphins Fan Reflex that makes it difficult to get hyped, but we have a very talented team, and I think we have the right coaches to get what we need from the deep roster. GET HYPED!!!

GO DOLPHINS!!!

I get no vacation time except one paid weekend off a year where the boss makes arrangements to cover for me. I have to pay people to cover any other weekend I want off. Though when I do that, it gives me 12 days off in a row. Never done the math before and just realized I only work 104 days a year. Only downfall is it is every weekend for 48 straight hours. I usually sleep 10 to 15 of those hours though and still get paid for it.

I usually only take 2 weekends off a year, once for our wintertime anniversary/south Florida trip and the other for my annual scalloping trip coming up in 2.5 weeks.

Hey, with the 2 weekends off, I only work 100 days a year and since feels like too much. lol

M – 6 WEEKS!!! Holy fuck, how do you take them all with their 6 months in advance policy?
    —————
It’s all about scheduling in advance. Very often, I must ‘guess’ what may happen 6 months in advance… or more specifically (not so much guessing), 12 months in advance if I’d like to take time off in December of the next year to be with fam and friends during the holiday season.

For every positive, there is a negative.

    True story

You know the song Drivers Seat it was put out in 1979 by Sniffin the Tears

Here’s the thing until last Sunday I never knew the name of this band and despite having heard this particular song occasionally since 79 I also never knew the actual name of this song. So on Sunday there’s a random post of this music video on my Facebook feed and it says Sniffin the Tears – Drivers seat and it says from 1979 so I said to myself that I probably know this song although in my mind I couldn’t recall it. So I play it and I’ll be damned they’re saying “drivers seat” when for all the times I’ve heard and enjoyed this song I thought they were saying “travecy “. And I always wondered what the hell is a “travecy”.
Honestly the song song sounds better saying Travecy, since learning they’re singing Drivers seat I don’t even like the song anymore

GAME ONE of the Stanley Cup Finals begins in about 20 minutes. I’m REALLY looking forward to it!
    ——————————
    These teams seem pretty evenly matched. But I give a slight edge to the Florida Panthers for the following reasons;
#1) The visiting teams have won a clear majority of this year’s playoffs. And for 4 of the potential maximum of 7 games, the Panthers will be the visiting team. Florida has won NINE CONSECUTIVE ROAD GAMES DURING THIS AMAZING STREAK!
#2) BOBROVSKY is more experienced of the two starting goalies, another plus for the Panthers.
#3) Young Mr. Tkachuk has come up big in the overtime games.
#4) Most of the so-called “EXPERTS” are picking Vegas to win the CUP! Aren’t these guys the same “EXPERTS” who said the Boston Bruins would make short work of the Panthers??
    —————-
DON’T GET ME WRONG; the Golden Knights have an outstanding team. I would NOT be shocked if they did win the Cup. But, because of the 4 reasons listed above, I’m picking FLORIDA to win their first Stanley Cup 4 games to 3!!

I’m most surprised that Dalvin Cook hasn’t been cut or traded yet. That it hasn’t happened already (right after June 1st), tells me that Vikes want compensation (trade).

My thinking is that when a vet who they like gets cut between now and TC, they will pounce… likely releasing him outright if a trade isn’t forthcoming.

    The waiting game continues…

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Conversely, we haven’t blown our load of new cap space so soon. That suggests to me that we, too, may be waiting for cuts between now and TC.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I think that likely cap-casualty David Bakhtiari would be an incredible FA signing for us… but he’s been A-Rod’s LT for some time… and the stej have much more cap space than we have to throw at him.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Teams don’t want to trade a valuable draft pick and pay what Cook is looking for. If they did this could have been done already. He’ll be 28 in August and with a history of shoulder injuries his value is not real high.

He’s a talented back but we all know the RB market. If he’s a FA I can see him getting a 2 year $12M up to 15 with incentives. Not sure we’ll do that though.

He could stick as a backup NT. We’ve got some good depth up front.

I see Ogbah rotating with Chubb and Phillips on the edge, but also playing snaps inside the tackles especially in nickel and dime. Wilkins and Sieler will play a lot of snaps inside tackles. Davis will likely see 15-20 snaps per game as a 0 technique NT. That’s what I think he is.

  43. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’ll have to respectfully disagree with O. I think Raekwon Davis has been underwhelming for us. If he’d played better, I think our edge guys would have a lot more sacks. I also don’t think he’s the reason for anything good with our run defense, I think he’s been a non factor period.

Hoopla over SEC not reworking it’s schedule for 2024 to play 9 conference games v 8 is a joke, imo. Most of the top, if not all of the top teams, play a Power Five team, i.e. Alabama v Texas, and is the best conference in college football, by far.

    Give it a rest….lol.

It will probably all change after ONE year with a new ESPN deal in 2025. Lol.

I guess the Vikings are hoping to either work out a new deal with Cook or they’re still holding out for a trade.

For us it’s about at what price if he’s released. Is Cook so much better at a high price than what we have at RB? I’m not so sure. How much more are his yards worth at the end of the day? His numbers would have to be elite level to match the higher price than what we could get from Mostert and Wilson. We don’t know yet what kind of impact Achane will make.

I don’t think we need Dalvin Cook at this point either. Now I’d welcome him with open arms(!), but we already have a hydra in our running game, IMO.

Another thing on Cook is, would you rather he go to jets or bills

    • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

      Could care less.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The Jets have a really good young back in Breece Hall and some solid depth with Carter and Co., so not sure that’s a fit. The Bills would be the Cook brothers.

I was all in on Cook before we re-signed our entire backfield and then added Achane. Only so many touches to go around. He’s not a need but a luxury at this point.

Mike E., it is my understanding FOX News was founded on the premise of offering a conservative perspective. To that extent that succeeded.

What YOU don’t understand, is they didn’t have to get there by aping liberal MSM and besting them in the mud, they could have done it with true conservative reporting.

    And, they didn’t….lol

Krishna – Fox News is garbage, but sometimes I’d rather watch garbage than the same same old bullshit I see on every other news channel. I started out Sunday with CNN, just to see what they had to say, and sure enough, they didn’t disappoint with a character assassination piece of DeSantis with no proof from the uber left DA from Cali, who is a disciple of Gavin Newson who hates DeSantis. Then I turned on my local WPIX news and they have good ole Chuck Schumer telling the reporter how the Dems spanked the Republicans, or the Maga Republicans as he calls it, with the new debt ceiling bill. It’s a shame, but it’s all one sided, and sometimes I’d rather see the other side, whether it’s true, accurate, because I’m tired of seeing just one side.

Mike, I’m not sure what this particular shipment of refugees is that is being discussed now, but it isn’t character assassination if he brags about it in the press and uses the fact that he ships people from the border to liberal cities as a political stunt. He may not have shipped the particular immigrants in question but he has gone so far as to have his cronies in the legislature pass a law allowing him to spend Florida Tax Dollars on these political stunts and he brags about it on camera.

At my low level of knowledge of hockey, minor league matches are in some ways more fun because some guys are good and some not, so you can really see the talent shine out with some amazing skating and shot-making.

I agree, and I think you’re exactly right. The Federalist Papers are something I feel every American should read. Problem is, most are far too lazy to read as much, most don’t really care, and most will never understand the WHY of the Federalist Papers.

  89. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rock – He may brag about it, and that’s his prerogative, but that was shipping immigrants out of his state, the state he’s Governor of, Florida. These allegations are stating DeSantis shipped immigrants that first went to Texas, then to New Mexico, and had nothing to with Florida. I’m not saying it’s not possible that it’s true, but it was a one sided hit piece from a slimy liberal Cali DA, spawned from a more slimy liberal Governor of Cali, Gavin Newsom, who happens to hate DeSantis.

Anyway, it’s a pattern. The media was quite compliant in destroying Donald Trump by first being more than happy to carry the Russian collusion election interference (without a shred a proof). The left tried to impeach Trump before he even took office, and the media is more than happy to lend a hand in helping them do so. So now, as a preemptive strike, they’re already starting on DeSantis, the next guy in line as NY tries to put Trump in prison. It’s pretty funny, except it’s not funny, it’s dangerous. One of our former posters here is a friend of mine on FB, and he posts anti-conservative posts nearly every day, mostly character assassinations of DeSantis. Seems after Bad Orange Man, he’s the next boogeyman.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Also, my point is, is it really “news” when you’re reporting a story without any factual information, just what one guy from a liberal state says about another guy from a conservative state, without a shred of evidence other than the one time DeSantis shipped immigrants from Florida to Martha’s Vineyard? Does that mean that DeSantis is the mastermind pulling all the strings on all transportation of immigrants now? It’s not “news”, it’s desperate bullshit.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

No you are wrong. He was shipping them out of Texas to other states it was none of his fucking business.

He said as/is spending money authorized by the duly elected legislature to share the impacts of illegal immigration with the liberal states that support and encourage the illegal immigration. Seems fair to me. Florida is the way it is because of the policies and because that’s the way most Floridians want it. Seems to me you just don’t like Florida.
