It appears as if the Dolphins avoided a major disaster, losing LT Terron Armstead for an extended period of time after getting injured in practice, his first snap actually. Armstead left the field barely putting on any weight on the leg that was injured, but he says he’ll be ready for game #1, and there is no major injury requiring surgery. Now that we got that out of the way, there are a few things I want to see in preseason. Most importantly, NO MORE INJURIES!!! I would like to see CB Cam Smith continue to get important reps and show he’s serious about getting plenty of reps in the regular season. Backup QB’s Mike White and Skylar Thompson just have to do better. We know neither of them are going to run this offense as crisply and effectively as Tua, but we need them to be competent enough to put points on the board. I’m really hoping we see better play from both of these guys.
I would really like to see RB Chris Brooks get more carries, and see if we may possibly have something there. He’s not the prototype “big back” like Tennessee’s Derrick Henry, but compared to the stable of RB’s we have here in Miami, Brooks looks huge! I feel like all our RB’s are so close in running style and especially stature, that it would be nice to have a big back like Brooks make the team. Brooks is 6′ 223, while the lot of Mostert (5’10 205), Wilson (6′ 210), Ahmed (5’11 197), Gaskin (5’10 199) and Achane (5’9 188) are all very similar size wise. Yes, we have FB Alec Ingold who’s a load at 6’1 240, but Ingold has only 21 carries in 4 years in the NFL for a reason. Of course, the 4 best guys will make the team, this much I get, but I hope Brooks shows enough to be viewed as a possibilty to make the roster.
I’m curious to see more of LG Lester Cotton. He was great in practice, he had some very dominant reps, so I would love to see that dominance in game play, even if it’s a preseason game. It doesn’t matter what round you were drafted in on the O-line, if you can move people, you’re going to get noticed. Would I love Liam Eichenberg to play like the guy we hoped he could be when we moved up in the 2nd RD of the 2021 NFL at pick #42 to get him, of course, but at this point, I just want someone competent, and hungry for the job. If it’s Lester Cotton, who is actually 3rd string at RG, or Isaiah Wynn who is a veteran as well, I don’t care as long as they play well.
The competition at DT is pretty intense with DT’s Brandon Pili and Jaylen Twyman, Most importantly though, we need to get through the negotiations and sign DT/DE Christian Wilkins to a long term deal and keep him in Miami for another 6 years. He’s been an exemplary player, hard worker who brings it every week. Once Wilkins is signed the next up should be DT/DE Zach Sieler. There are some good battles at LB as well, with guys like Mitchell Agude, Mike Rose, and Aubrey Miller. It’s no given that last year’s 2nd RD pick LB Channing Tindall is a lock to make the roster, how these guys play on special teams could be the key to making the 53. BTW, the pronounced demise of the Mac was a bit premature. It’s slow, and uncooperative at times, and I do need to get a new one, but this article was written on the Mac, so LONG LIVE THE MAC!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Alright, here’s the game plan on Offense for the 2nd half: target Ced Wilson 100x if necessary, get him over 200 yards receiving and 4 TDs, then we can trade him to the Colts for Johnathan Taylor to get a deal done.
That would clear nearly $7M off our current salary cap, the Colts really need another WR, and they’re nearly $17M under the cap (7th best in the NFL right now).
^^^^
I wish we had a QB (not named Tua) who could get Wilson those stats in the 2nd half tonight, though. 🙂
Don’t be surprised to see this release by the Chiefs this week.
Clyde Edwards-Helaire
I hear ya… and THEN they make the trade for Johnathan Taylor.
I can almost feel it in my bones, my guy.
When I say “they”, I’m talking about the Chiefs trading for Taylor.
Cam Smith got fried on that one
Catch by Wilson!
Damn penalty!
Wow, Taylor to Chiefs would be scary
It would be absolutely insane… watch for it.
Wilson!
M, your plan may be working, lol
😀
Go Chris brooks
Brooks went Beast mode!
I read the Chiefs as one of four teams interested in acquiring Taylor in addition to us. That would definitely suck for the rest of the NFL if he went there.
Right. I don’t know what is wrong with Edwards-Helaire. He seems to have lost “it”.
I like Brooks!
Ditto
I think Gaskin gets cut
I think you are right. Then he ends up on an AFCE rival.
I hate Elijah Campbell got hurt. Didn’t look good.
Can’t afford that
Cheap shot on a defenseless WR
Looks like Brooks is going to make the roster just as I hoped. That’s good for the team. No reason to go out and spend crazy money and give up draft capital to get Taylor
Do you think Brooks making the team precludes us from still pursuing Taylor?
I think the fact that we have a big back with some ability makes it silly to give up draft capital and overpay Taylor
Wyoming, The slowmo of that last wreck was crazy!
That was worse than the Rusty Wallace tumble back in the day.
Didn’t even realize the race was on
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5nqZWtEeeA
😳
Bri – I think Taylor is a very good back, i remember thinking Marlon Mack was really good at one time as well. Unless he falls into our laps for a price we can’t refuse, I don’t think we should go all out in pursuit to get him
I don’t think we will give up a first, and probably not even a second for him. He’s probably a top five back in this league. If we can get him for a third and a player or two, I would probably do it if we feel we can re-sign our upcoming FA’s
HOPING FOR THE best for the injured Dolphin player (Davis). Early reports are that he has movement in all limbs and is conscious.
——————————–
Broncos crushing LA Rams in the televised game tonight. BRONCOS look energized and motivated. Rams just going through the motions of what likely will be another losing season. Two years ago they won the Super Bowl. Last year they fell off the map! And it looks like more of the same tonight.
——————————-
SAW NOTHING of tonight’s Dolphin game locally. Hope to see the replay tomorrow at 10:00 AM on the NFL Network. Local Tampa area sports talk shows seem to be completely ignoring the Dolphin franchise.
——————————
HOPE Y’all have a great day tomorrow.
Bri – it’s not just what we have to give up to get him here, it’s what we have to pay him. I can’t see hiw we give him a contract and still keep Wilkins and Sieler. It’s going to be hard enough without paying Taylor. Go with the kid Brooks and Mostert and Achane and Ahmed and we’ll be fine
More from the Breakdown Elf:
Wishing the best for Daewood Davis. He has movement in all extremities.🙂
If we trade for Taylor I bet Ahmed will be a player involved in that trade.
RB Chris Brooks is making things difficult for the 53 isn’t he?
Remember guys like Priest Holmes and Arian Foster went undrafted. It happens.
The preseason is over! Nobody cares anymore except the axe man.😉
Not giving up a sack in 32 pass attempts was nice heading into the season.🙂
Mike,
Yes about paying him, that’s why I said if we can re-sign our upcoming FA’s, Wilkins in particular. Listen, I love some of the other guys too, but are you going to forgo a chance at signing Taylor for Zach Seiler? No way. Taylor can be a game changer, some of our other FA’s are good rotational players and depth pieces. The Dolphins clearly don’t have an issue paying him, or they wouldn’t even engage in talks. We can say “we don’t need a feature back in this system” all we want, but this is Shanahan’s system, and he went out and traded for CMC last year.
4 year lunch pail grinder who outplayed his contact for years for our team and is a key piece or the disgruntled me first player who will bitch and moan when he doesn’t get enough carries….
I’ve already said my peace.
If you are referring to Taylor, you can’t blame these young running backs for trying to get their big contracts while they’re young. The NFL is not set up to pay running backs, big money anymore, and he sees this as his best opportunity to get paid.
If you are referring to Sieler, believe me, I love the guy too. He’s exactly what you want on your team. But there is also a chance that someone out bids us in free agency for him. Ideally, you want to keep everyone, but this is a business and you can’t keep everyone on your team. I want the most talented players possible on this team, and if we can get Taylor, then I would welcome the opportunity to do so. I think we will be OK with who we have, but there’s no question that Taylor is far better than any running back we currently have on our roster .
Chris Brooks in college stats
rushing
512 att 2551 yds 5.0 ave./carry 20 TDs
receiving
60 catches 443 yds 7.4 ave./catch 7 TDs
totals from scrimmage
572 touches 2994 yds 5.2 ave. per 27 TDs
60 catches for a Big Back is really good,
means he can catch and he can get open.
(and he can function in this offense)
He averaged about 113 touches per year for 5 years.
So he has plenty of experience but is not worn out.
I can’t wait to hear that Taylor has signed with someone else
Seiler signing today
https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid01Jgc1B4n8oJibaMSnzmgumsjMZ1BVgGPfZvs4hPVYXNJRRcRAYnYa7xYGrwYweBsl&id=100064377831362&mibextid=qC1gEa
Yes! I love him! 😍
Now they need to get Wilkins’ deal taken care of.
Let’s Go Dolphins!
Beer me 😃 🍺
Beer!
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Brass has spoken! Sieler is the man!
That’s great news 👍
Great to hear.
And also great news on the Sieler signing.
And bad news that you won’t be at the Fest, we’re going to miss you man and your fam.
There’s an idea!
RIP Bob Barker 99
Got so close to 100 without going over
You are horrible.. HILARIOUS, but horrible 😊
Right!
Was Eichenberg released? I think so, but trying to verify
Nice to see Sieler get his money….
Well deserved for Seiler!
Now pay Christian!
Seems Dolphins and Wilkins couldn’t agree to a contract. That’s not a good situation
No, but there is still plenty of time. I feel like they will get it done eventually.
If Dolphins feel like they can’t get a deal done with Wilkins, I think there’s a bigger chance they go for Taylor
Agreed. I was surprised to see Seiler signed before Wilkins, but glad he did. I hope Wilkins is soon.
The 2 situations have nothing to do with each other
Wilkins is under contract – I think he was just angling for a long term deal before hand
It seems like that’s increasingly more difficult and it kind of seems like both Wilkins and the Dolphins have come to terms with the fact that he will be playing this year on the 5th year of his contract
With that in mind, if it’s true, they know exactly how much they have to spend on Taylor who may be signing a 1 year deal
If Wilkins had come to terms it would’ve lowered his 2023 cap
I know – that’s really an opportunity missed
But it’s not exactly devastating for team success this year or even how we manage the salary cap
7 QB hits for Wilkins in 2022 12 for Seiler, both had 3.5 sacks
Wilkins though was way more disruptive overall
They are a heck of a combo when it comes down to it
I don’t want to dwell on last night too much bc I think it’s generally meaningless
But I do think nine thing concerns me – I think Skyler Thompson has regressed
He looked much better last preseason as a rookie IMO
Anyone else?
Watched the first drive for the Jags, and Jaelan Phillips was completely neutralized. I know it’s just preseason, but I’m not sold that he’s going to be a dominant player. I hop he is, I just think he’s always going to be a guy that looks like greatness but plays ok
Chubb too
I’m hoping they don’t want anything on tape, so they just told the pass rush to just push straight ahead one on one.
(Phillips did turn the RB back inside, so Holland and Baker could get that fumble.)
Colts cut Kenyan Drake
Skylar looked worse than Mike Shite. Better pray Tua plays every single game
Yep. Said basically the same thing last night, I hope Tua stays healthy.
🙏🏻
The rest of the offense will be so much better than what he was playing with, but Skylar still has to play better, and the same goes for White when he’s healthy
On the other hand d, considering it’s only preseason, I really like what I saw from Chris Brooks
I think Skylar was playing against 3rd stringers mostly the whole last preseason.
I think Teddy got the reps against the backups.
This year in preseason games 2 and 3, Skylar was going against guys who will make their teams for his first half reps.
And in preseason game 1, Skylar was throwing to guys who will not make our team with blockers who will not make the 53 and 2 rookie TEs.
Plus he threw 3 TDs in preseason game 2.
I keep making myself remember that Jax last year had a team that got better as the year went on and won a playoff game.
We didn’t.
You can’t underestimate the talent of Trevor Lawrence.
In 2019 he beat Alabama with Tua 44-16 for the national championship.
He threw 3 TDs.
Etienne scored 3 times in that one as well.
Tua threw 2 TDs.
and Jax has a SB winning HC who was a NFL QB.
Do you think McDaniel decided to keep TE Elijah Higgins under wraps after he did so well that first preseason game? He’s hardly gotten any reps since then.
PS I like the play of that rookie TE Hill, but he can easily be stashed on the PS.
If Higgins had kept playing like that, there’s no way he could be hidden on the PS, if that is what needs to happen.
They signed Sieler to a 3 year extension today. YAY
Lunch Pale Dudes 1
38 Mil 4 years including this year’s restructure. Under 1o per season for his contributions is a value IMO.
Reports are their offer and what Wilkins wants are “worlds apart”
The rumor is they offered a 2nd round pick and then other combinations of picks and players but were rebuffed. So I am guessing I am not going to like what happens
For Taylor
Like I said, the Colts don’t want to trade, they just wanted to show him what he’s worth
Irsay really screwed the situation with Taylor.
So we locked up Sieler for a few years but not Wilkins yet. I felt a few days ago that Wilkins agent is looking for top end money for DT but the team doesn’t want to go that high. Wilkins is a really good player but he’s not elite especially as a pass rusher. He’s never even made the pro bowl.
Naples, looks like you should be in the clear. Hit or miss for OD. Not looking good for Keaton Beach where we stay on our scalloping trips.
After Charlie turned 90 degrees and walloped Punta Gorda and then Ian did NOT continue north but instead destroyed the beach across the bridge from my house, I don’t trust the early predicted tracks.
Horrible what happened in Jacksonville. Some people are really fucked up and other people keep ignoring the red flags.😥
Barry Jackson has been reporting that the Dolphins did make an offer for Taylor and apparently the Colts have until Tuesday to accept
Not sure I understand what’s with the Tuesday deadline
I know that’s cut day
So maybe the idea is the trade, if any, has to be by Tuesday as far as the GMs are concerned – just so they can finalize the 53 efficiently
But seems to me like a trade can happen anytime before the trade deadline in October
Would be nice to know by Tuesday though
Tuesday is the time table the Colts gave Taylor to find a trade they’re willing to accept.
I don’t trust the early predicted tracks.
—————-
Don’t blame you Naples. Sally did the same to us.
Ugh!!! He was a solid swing DB. Had a good chance at making the team.
Yessir… that SUCKS.
If/when we cut Myles Gaskin, the Patsies* are going to pick him up… bet.
He’ll end up on a team as a depth back. I’m not concerned with what team that is.
Yeah, but I’m a big fan of Gaskin. I’d hate to have to root against him if he becomes a Patsie*.
Gotcha!
I don’t believe I’ve EVER seen this much talent in our WR room. Difficult decisions to make… knowing that even if we try to stash some on our PS, they could be poached.
Which brings me back to the past. If we had tried to stash former TE Michael Egglayer (R3, 2012) on our PS back then, would he have been poached?
What if Trent Green could have continued with us until 2012?
Would it have been a poached eggs and scrambled eggs special?
Maybe Green eggs and ham?
I’m going to quit while I’m behind. LOL
*rotten eggs being thrown at me right now*
Notice I used the word poached?😉
We’ll probably be looking to poach other teams as well at positions we’d like to get deeper at.
I’m really interested to see our first 53 man after cuts. Then I could see a few changes in the first couple of weeks of the season.
^
So is the report about the Dolphins and Wilkins not agreeing on a contract, a situation where he plays on his 5th year option, holds out demanding a trade, or a deal gets done at some point?
I haven’t seen much other than the fact they couldn’t come to terms. There hasn’t been much information out there.
Interesting article in USA TODAY Sports section by Mike Freeman, “Attacking Tagovailoa never made much sense.”
Crack
I suggested something similar to Barry
Marcel Louis-Jacques
@Marcel_LJ
Per source, the Dolphins have waived DT Jaylen Twyman.
too bad … he makes the occasional splash play, but he’s really a fringe talent.
Both of our former project late round OTs Larnel Coleman and Isaiah Prince, plus Julie’n Davenport, already got cut.
also OT Kellen Diesch that we had as a UDFA got cut.
Taco Charlton and N’Keal Harry got cut.
They had such potential, but they are now certified 1st round busts.
OT Greg Little also cut.
I do think we have upgraded our OL room, even if it’s just better depth.
Kurt Warner’s son WR Kade got cut by TB.
They also cut RB Ronnie Brown. (wtf?)
Miami Dolphins Sign Woods
Aug 25, 2023 at 10:30 AM
MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Miami Dolphins announced they have signed defensive tackle Jamal Woods.
Woods originally entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Indianapolis on May 8, 2023 and was waived on Aug. 1, 2023. He played collegiately at Illinois, where he appeared in 48 games with 18 starts over six seasons (2017-22). He earned BTN.com All-Freshman Team honorable mention honors in 2017 after recording 24 tackles (12 solo) and 3.5 tackles for loss.

The Miami Dolphins have finished their preseason and are ready to start their second campaign under head coach Mike McDaniel.
However, before that can happen, McDaniel and general manager Chris Grier will need to trim the roster from 90 players to 53 by 4:00 p.m. ET on Tuesday, August 29.
I thought he was going to be part of our defense this year but once I saw him playing late in preseason games it appeared he was on the bubble.

also OT Kellen Diesch that we had as a UDFA got cut.
———–
They liked him. They gave him an UDFA signing bonus. He got cut but we wanted to sign him to our PS. He signed to another teams PS instead. His mistake.
I’m really surprised about Malik Reed, but he never made a play.
We’ve cut OT Geron Christian and DL Josiah Bronson.
No surprises there.
Reed cut early before others is the shocker. Thought he would be on the final bubble of cuts. He has a 750K dead cap hit also.
I wonder if the last minute signing of AJ Johnson was the nail in the coffin for Reed.
definitely.
Johnson has had success with Fangio in the past.
He’s a ferocious hitter, I think.
I thought I saw him calling plays in the defensive huddle.
OT Alex Leatherwood cut by the Bears
OG Wyatt Davis released by Giants. He was a top rated guard coming out of Ohio State.
DT Deadrin Senat cut by Tampa. Interesting.
The Cards cut Colt McCoy, who some thought was going to start till FFace got back.
jest cut yet another of our former backup OTs Adam Pankey.
On a personal note, I just found out that Glenn Beck’s non-profit charity Mercury One was the one who sent ‘star links’ to Maui (and Molokai) to get their internet and coms back up and running as soon as possible.
If it hadn’t been for Glenn Beck and his team, I would have been really worried for my father… which I already was when I couldn’t communicate with him for several days.
My father is all good, thankfully. Thank you, Glenn Beck!
Cool!
glad to hear your dad is ok

Thanks, gentlemen!

I know, right! lol
That was quick.
less than a week on the team
Beer to BBM
Beer for Krishna!
We know nothing…..lol.
Rockphin, what do ya think about this one?!! CLEAR TANKING, IMO.
They should take a couple draft picks from the cardinals.

BBMike, Camren McDonald, FSU
He might be worth kicking the tires on, on our PS.
I saw he was released by someone and picked up by the Rams for PS3. Now they release him. I think he ends up on someone’s PS. If not, I will be shocked.
