2023 Season – Game 6 – Panthers @ Dolphins

The winless Carolina Panthers at 0-5 come to Miami to take on the 4-1 1st place Miami Dolphins this Sunday, A.K.A Fest Day! This is the best Dolphins team we’ve seen in some time. The offense is incredible, although we have lost rookie sensation RB De’Von Achane for a few weeks as he was placed on IR this week, meaning he’ll miss at least 4 games until he’s eligible to return the week of November 19th against the Raiders. Incidentally, Jeff Wilson Jr. is eligible to return from the PUP list but it has yet to be determined if Wilson will be active. RB Salvon Ahmed and Chris Brooks will most likely share reps with Mostert, with Mostert getting the majority of the touches.

I think the majority of us have a lot of positive feelings with this team. The Buffalo game was a sobering beat down, but the team came back strong against the beleaguered NY Giants. The defense especially made their presence felt last week. In place of Jaelan Phillips, backup LB Andrew Van Ginkel has been stellar. He has made his absence tolerable, although it would be great to have both og them available. Jaelan Phillps logged in a limited practice Wednesday, along with other limited participants WR Tyreek Hill, OG Robert Jones, RB Raheem Mostert, RB Jeff Wilson Jr., and nice to see the return of DB Nik Needham, one of my faves. CB Xavien Howard (veteran rest), FB Alec Ingold (foot), and OC Connor Williams (groin), did not practice. Ingold has said he’s playing Sunday, but Williams is one to keep an eye on, and maybe a late decision.

The Dolphins are the #1 passing team with 1681 yards. The Dolphins are also the #1 rushing team with 929 yards. That’s crazy! This offense, with the exception of the 2nd half of the Bills game has been nearly unstoppable. On defense however, it’s a different story. The Dolphins have allowed the 12th most passing yards, and the 15th most rushing yards. Not terrible, but not championship level either. Vic Fangio may have the Dolphins defense turning the corner, although even a strong showing against the Panthers will still leave the question as to whether this defense, and team in general, can play well against one of the better teams, like the Philadelphia Eagles. We’ll play them the following Sunday, and they will be a better gauge as to where this team is heading.

It’s a shame the Festers won’t get to see RB De’Von Achane who just eats up yardage so quickly, averaging an outrageous 12.1 yards per carry. I’m not talking 5-10 carries, it’s 38. Raheem Mostert is also having a great year rushing and is averaging a whopping 5.4 yards per carry, which is less than half of the magic man, De’Von Achane, but still impressive. We will get to see Tyreek Hill, who has also been magical this season. Hill has 651 yards receiving and is averaging 18.1 YPR, crazy considering all the extra attention he receives. Jaylen Waddle has 245 yards receiving, 14.4 YPR. Braxton Berrios has been great getting open finding soft spots in the zones or just beating coverage to get open.

The Panthers will be showing off their rookie QB Bryce Young who is having a decent rookie season. Young has been sacked 12 times so far this season. Young has 750 yards passing with 5 TD’s and 4 INT’s and a 77 QBR. In contrast, Tua has 1614 yards, with 11 TD’s and 5 INT’s and a stellar 111.9 QBR. It would be nice to have a healthy Jaelan Phillips back, but it’s still unclear as to whether he will suit up. In any case, AVG is on fire right now, so this defense is going to bring it whether Phillips is there or not. I do hope we activate Nik Needham, but I think we have until the 29th to activate him, so it’s probably not happening this week.

No matter what happens at the game itself, this is a special time getting together with a great group. It’s such a pleasure to see you all each year, and of course, we’re thankful for Stanger’s hospitality, Chef Warren, communications man Hulk, transportation man Toba, and everyone who attends and makes it such a special time. It will be great to finally meet Herd, looking forward to that! Looking forward to meeting up again and having a great time while we’re together. Cheers!

Hi Naples….I will be in your area for two weeks in December with the intention of “exploring” Naples and Sanibel Island (and perhaps driving across state for the Dolphins v Jets game on December 17) from December 12-25. If you are ok with having one of the Admins share your e-mail or contact info with me, I have a bunch of questions….lol.

    Thank you!

This season is so awesome for so many reasons. One is a 1-5 Pats team. Just say that our loud. The Patriots are one and five. They have lost five of the last six games.

Go ahead. Just humor me. say. it. out. loud.

Didn’t everything just get a little brighter. The colors a little sharper?

Chase Young keeps coming up as someone we should trade for by the deadline.

I don’t know. Think he would cost too much in draft capital. He’s an UFA next year so it would be a short rental.

So, just for shits and giggles, go to NFL website / stats and go to kickers. Sort the kickers by % of attempts made….

I may have said this would be a problem.

We are going to have to release 5-6 guys from the roster in the next month. The team also needs to be very careful with the IR designations moving forward. We are running out of the “to return” designation. You are only allowed 8 per season.

Jones (already reactivated), Wilson, Armstead, Ramsey, Needham, Achain

That is 6 of the 8 allowed. We also have Cracraft and EZE on the list. My guess is they do not come back this season and we keep the two other “to return” designations as emergency use.

Squeaky wheel gets the oil…lol….here are the facts. 2 yard passes to Hill my ASS!

“Of course, those stats could be impacted by a player taking a two-yard zipped pass 40 yards. But what about air yards? Taking a look at air yards, Tagovailoa is averaging 5.3 yards per pass in the air before it is being caught. That leads the league, ahead of Purdy’s 5.2 yards. Tagovailoa has thrown more passes over 10 yards than anyone else. He is second in passes that traveled more than 20 yards. He is tied for second in passes that traveled more than 30 yards. He jumps back into the lead with passes that travel more than 40 yards down the field. And he is tied for the league in passes that travel more than 50 yards.

Tagovailoa is tied for sixth on average completed air yards with a 6.4 yards per catch. In comparison, Cincinnati Bengals (+6) quarterback Joe Burrow is last on the list with a 3.7 average completed air yards through Week 6. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has the fourth-lowest average at 4.3 yards.”

Our team, and particularly the offense, has performed so well that it is now a target in the media. One of the the top questions in the NFL media is “Can the Dolphin’s O really be that good?” And for sure some are going to say no it ain’t, even if they have to make up BS reasons.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

The flip side so what if it was only 2 yards? He is still putting the ball in the hands of playmakers that allows to get huge yards after catch. That too is a very important skill that many QBs often fail at. So even if he was correct, which he is not, it would be just a so what moment.

Because he’s a natty BALL HAWK (!), not to mention a multi-faceted player who returns kicks and punts… or play Safety or CB.

It’s not King’s fault that he’s been in the wrong systems for so many years. He would legitimately excel in this Defensive system of Fangio.

On to the Dolphins, the biggest game of the week is us vs Philly. How long has it been since we were a prime draw and competitive with SB teams? Too damn long. This team is fun to watch on offense and hopefully Ramsey will make it fun to watch on D. AVG is a joy to watch though.

  40. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

How efficient is our offense!!? We lead the league in passing yards by more than 260 yards than the next team, but have completed fewer passes than 8 other teams. Incredibly we have attempted fewer passes than 14 teams.

That is kind of where I am at too. It’s nice to get the respect, but after a poor showing against the Bills, if we don’t show up for this game, none of that stuff matters and we move into the pretender category in everyone’s mind.

“Sure, they put up a lot of points against bad teams, but they can’t hang with the big boys” – I do not want this to be the theme of our season.

  54. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Am I crazy?

I keep hearing people talk about how much we need to prove this weekend by beating the eagles

But we don’t have to prove anything

We want to win. We want the 1 seed in the afc if we can get. If we can’t we still want the best regular season record

We don’t need to satiate the media and convince them we are “for real”

When the playoffs roll around, there’s probably going to be 3-4 teams in each conference that are contenders. In the case of the afc, I think one of those teams will be a wildcard from the afc east

I want to win the division and I want to get the 1 seed to avoid playing a contender on the road – but realistically, whomever gets the 1 seed is Going to lose 3 or 4 games this year. Even the 1 seed my lose to a good team in the road. It happens every year

Nobody get me wrong, I want to beat the eagles

But the regular season is about playoff seeding not proving to skip bay less and Stephen a smith and every podcaster you are “for real”

We can lose this game and be “for real”
Even championship teams lose to others contenders and on the road

The reach of how far we go this year is not beholden to the knee jerk reactions of power rankings or who is the best team at the moment

I think a championship team should get better every week

    We need to stay healthy
We need to improve defensively and we can use October and November to get there

But we don’t need to prove anything to anyone

Am I the only one that has tuned out the media’s opinion of who we are?

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Maybe I’m just a long suffering Dolphins fan, but I very much think this is a prove it weekend. It’s a measuring stick game against an elite team. If we lose bad, I know I’ll start to question whether we can beat the elite teams. But we’ll also get another chance in two more weeks in Germany.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I think if we win, people will still say “they can’t beat Buffalo”

We are gonna be saddled with that until we play them again

If we lose to the eagles people will say “all they do is beat bad teams”

        Pick your poison on this

But the people criticizing us are just going to replace one criticism for another

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I think that’s fair, Piggy, when you’re talking about the likes of Cowherd, Asshat Smith, etc. And even regular analysts (as opposed to ‘shock analysts’) are pretty dumb in general.

But I also think there is some truth in there to be found. If we lose bad to the Eagles, I’ll start to wonder if we can only beat bad teams, so it’s only natural analysts would too.

I also personally feel like the Bills do have our number- for whatever reason. We beat them last year, but it took Allen missing wide open guys in the end zone for us to win one game out of the last forever.

I think for us to take the next step, we do need to show we can hang with the 3 or 4 elite teams in the league. This week is an opportunity to do that.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

It really doesn’t bother me what the ‘analysts’ say, because when you look at what a guy like Smith said about Tua, it’s obvious he’s just regurgitating or trolling because what he said is factually inaccurate.

And there has always been that Northeast sports center bias against the Dolphins even when we were good a couple of decades ago, lol.

      • pheloniusphish's avatar pheloniusphish says:

I agree with El Cerdo…contenders will lose occasionally to other contenders. Miami is beating the teams they are supposed to beat the way they are supposed to beat them. This game is more of a legitimacy question for Philly. They have barely beat five bad teams and lost to a team they were supposed to beat. Personally, I think Miami crushes them and we will hear the laments of their women and children.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Phel, I’d be fine with a hard fought loss. I just want to see us compete, not get blown out.

If we’re there at the end against the SB runners up in their home, that’s showing we belong.

If we’re in the game in the last 2 minutes, win or lose, that’s improvement and proof to ourselves. A WIN would be taking the next step closer to the best record in the AFC.

    Piggy Prediction time

Remember where it was oinked first

    This pork is spicy

    🐖💨

My score prediction is 33-20 🐬

Here’s how we get to that score

Waddle 2 receiving TDs – 164 yards. His best game
Hill 1 receiving TD 98 yards. His worst game of the season
Mostert 1 rushing TD, 145 rushing yards, 23 reffing yards
Tua 3 TDs 0 ints over 350 yards passing
Berrios returns a punt for a TD and has over 70 yards receiving
Chase Claypool and Jeff Wilson jr get their first action of the season – but they total less than 40 yards combined
Eli 🍎 – yes him – created a big turnover
Philips (and this prediction is for Mike) 2 sacks including 1 for a safety
    Seiler 1 sack
    Chubb 1 sack
    Kahou 1 sack

But the biggest prediction – this is the David along Jr. Breakout game
Long gets double digit tackles and is all over the field

The eagles have the #2 rushing offense in the league
    They will try to run
They will try to slow the game down
Hurts will have many designed runs

This is where Long is a difference maker and the Fangio defense takes a steps forward

Fucking drive me crazy when I type a hole god damn paragraph and hit “reply” (WTF is that about anyway, it’s not a reply) and then I get an error message “sorry you have to log in before posting” When my avi already showed in the bottom left. Then you have to hit “go back” and the entire paragraph is gone. rabble rabble rabble

Anyway, I wrote something like this before it was deleted.

I am so glad Austin Jackson is finally playing well. He’s still not a top 10 RT but at least he isn’t a liability anymore. He had to wait until his contract year to show up which sucks, but hopefully he continues to progress!

Wynn, Williams and Hunt on the interior have been very good. That’s a nice group.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

We’ve gotten good contributions at all spots. We should be able to re-sign Jackson at a decent price, and if Eich can continue to grow as our backup center we might actually be really set at oline for the next couple years.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

We’ll have to re-sign Williams too, and he wants top of the league money.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

If that all works out, we can focus on the middle of our defense at the top of next year’s draft.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

All of whom were Tackles at the collegiate level.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I suppose we can add Eich to that mix as well: a former Tackle at the collegiate level who now plays on the interior.

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Hunt is a FA and a must re-sign.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

our entire offensive line, except for the guy who never plays because he is always hurt, are free agents next year…

  67. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Man, it is going to be so hard to have to wait all day on Sunday for our game, lol.

  69. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Stephen A Smith enrages me. He is such a clueless fuck. Pompous ass know nothing POS. They were talking about Miami vs Philly and that POS is losing his mind that Miami hasn’t beaten anyone. Hey dick face! Who has Philly beaten? SAME 1-5 pats, a 2-4 vikings team and three 500 teams. Philly hasn’t proven anything. THEIR test comes this weekend. A test they will fail and numbnuts like Stephen A will make excuses.

  70. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I’m not too focused on our offseason but as far as FA we need to retain core players. If that means moving on from some solid players that are less priority so be it. There are ways to replace 2nd tier positions not too costly.

  71. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I didn’t realize or forgot that Hunt is a FA. He’s going to get big money too. The other guys we should be able to sign to decent contracts, but Hunt and Williams will be near the top of their respective pay scales.

So my man leagues schedule got all fucked up and we are playing games out of sequence. I just finished my game against the Jets on Black Friday and cream them 30 to 3. I am eight and oh baby oh baby oh baby in my league. Mostert is going to break LaDainian Thomason’s record in my madden realm. He already has 24 in week eight. And has averaged over 8 yards per carry. I know he’s not real. He’s my madden Mostert, but all the same Yeehaw it’s fun playing this game again. Probably how it’s been for the patriots fans for 20 years.

I didn’t post a blow out score. Less than a TD. I just think Philly is the deeper team and has a better defense with an offense that will score on our shitty Defense. Why do predictions at all if all you want is confirmation bias go back to your Facebook echo chamber.
