Why Dolphins??? Why???

I know there are those of you that will do just about anything to find the positives about this front office and team, and organization, but for crying out loud, WHY?????? There was one player other than the electric De’Von Achane who made this offense that was stuck in the mud the entire 2024 season go, that was TE Jonnu Smith. Jonnu caught 88 passes last season. If you watched the games like I did, you know many of those passes were screens and short dump offs, he averaged 10.0 YPR, but also achieved a 5.8 YAC average, a little more than half his YPR, which tells you how much work he had to do to get that 10.0 yards per reception. Naturally, like most athletes in the NFL, Jonnu wants to be rewarded for his great play last season and his efforts. Why then, do we need to hear that we’re looking to trade him to the Pittsburgh Steelers? Supposedly we could get up to a 3rd RD pick for Jonnu? Splendid! We could potentially then draft yet another OL in RD 2 and we can use that 3rd RD pick to trade up to get him! Oh the excitement in Dolphins Land!

I don’t know what it’s take for those of you who continue to bushy tailed and bright eyes at what we’re doing here. I think it’s a damn disgrace what we’re doing. I’m not going to rehash everything as I’ve done countless times, but you have to get tired of the negativity, that THEY provide. Sure, I’m writing about it, but it’s not me supplying the negativity, THEY do! Does anyone here remember exactly how many TD’s we had from our TE room in 2023? If you forgot, we had Z-E-R-O!! Yes, we had the most explosive offense in the NFL, but what happened when we played tough teams? We fell apart. Having that big bodied receiver that fights for yards after the catch is a wonderful thing to have when your receivers are all smaller, faster guys and don’t provide that type of physicality, RB De’Von Achane included. Jonnu gave us 8 TD’s receiving last season, and a few of them were ridiculous rugby scrum TD’s where he fought his way into the end zone We have no idea what type of impact Jonnu could have made in 2023 because he wasn’t here.

It’s just so difficult to feel like this front office has a plan. They just react (poorly) to everything that comes their way. They extend Jalen Ramsey, he has issues with the HC just a few months later and we air our dirty laundry for the entire NFL to see. Gee, that oughta help us get more in return if we trade our disgruntled player whom this front office just keeps throwing $$$ at. Now we have a good soldier who just wants more than the meager 2YR/$4.8M contract that his play easily exceeded. I don’t love when players sign contracts and then ask for more money but if anyone has a legit case, Jonnu does. So even in a best case scenario, we get a 3rd RD pick for next season, do you really want Chris Grier at GM to use that extra pick?

So, now we sit and wait and watch another good player leave the roster. There’s absolutely nothing positive about trading Jonnu Smith for draft picks if Chris Grier is still going to be here, nothing! We just lose another player and give a guy who can’t play a draft board another pick to to use frivolously. It’s a damn shame if that’s how this goes. We have no one in this TE room that could do what Jonnu does. Yes, WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine had a bunch of TD receptions, but why not have both of these guys and see what they can do together? Who knows, maybe we’re able to come to an agreement on a responsible and fair contract extension for Jonnu, that would be ideal. He is going to be 30 when the season begins (we share the same birthday, August 22nd). Travis Kelce has played very well and only recently seems to be really falling off, but he’s 35, so giving Jonnu another year or 2 and more money would be far from irresponsible. I’d love to see that happen, let’s hope for the best, but expect the worst! That’s how we roll here in Miami!

part of me thinks we have been a little misled on the Jalen Ramsey trade idea

And a lot misled on Jonnu Smith trade

I don’t know why the Ramsey trade has happened by now. I assumed it was the n place before 6/1

    BBM,

You were a WR? Well that explains a LOT, 😜

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I was more a blocker in that offense. lol

We had faster and better WR’s than me but I was one of the better blockers so I got equal playing time. I loved blindsiding anyone on defense, Hines Ward style. We were 1A at the time so the LB’s weren’t much bigger than me.

Coach called me a pussy one time in practice my sophomore year. It changed the way I played from then on. lol

  3. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I don’t give a shit what Jonnu wants. I would NEVER pay a guy based on one year’s performance. Tell him to do it again, and I’ll think about paying him in his next contract…after he fulfills this one.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I can see your point. With the additions at WR and RB Wright in year 2, his numbers won’t be as big as last year. Maybe 600 yards and half the TD’s. He became a go to for all the other QB’s when Tua was out which inflated his #’s a little. Though I could be wrong, don’t feel like checking the numbers. lol

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Jonnu had a couple of other good years, nothing like last year, it was his time in NE, that was awful, the rest pretty good

I mean he did get paid by NE for a reason, who had no clue how to use him

they say he was top 4…what about his blocking, that has to factor into his worth

  4. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I have just always hated people not fulfilling their contracts and then trying to get more money. This “outperforming my contract” is just BS. I paid you to play your very best. You agreed to do that. I have no respect for any person who doesn’t backup their word. That’s the world we live in now. A handshake or signature and a person’s word mean nothing.

  5. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

Oh, you were one of those guys?

I played defense too, and guys who threw those blocks usually got their knees taken out or an extra knee or fist in the nuts in a scrum. Lol

The Miami Dolphins’ 2025 preseason schedule has been finalized, and two of the three matchups will be shown live on NFL Network.

Those two games will be the preseason opener against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on Sunday, August 10 at 1 p.m. ET and the preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday, August 23 at 7 p.m. ET.

Next year it could be Ramsey, Chubb and Tua. Maybe when Ross sees CG, he thinks he sees “Can’t Go”

  9. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Our O was shit last year with Jonnu leading the receiving charge, wonder how that would be different with Darnell Washington

For sure the running game would be better with him blocking and not Gesicking, that we’re going to throw

Question is, would the running game then open up our passing game/O

Sure would be nice, if he’d honor his contract and block adequately

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He’s not a blocking TE, end of story. That’s like asking Tua to honor his contract and run the football when he can and stop being a fucking Frajeel!

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

he’s a TE they block, if not he’s a WR

would be like a janitor saying I don’t sweep floors

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Which would be like a QB with fully functional legs not running when he can. Some TE’s are blockers, some are receivers. Some QB’s are statues, some are actually dangerous athletes that can beat you either way. Tua’s a statue, a fragile one

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

some do this some do that, the job description says…

In the NFL, a tight end (TE) performs two primary functions: blocking and receiving.

In NFL, the quarterback (QB) has several critical functions. They are the offensive leader, responsible for making quick decisions, calling plays, and distributing the ball to teammates

  10. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

BigO talking about Tyreek having the freedom to take himself out of the game to take a break, bashing tge WRs and MM and his soft approach

Tyreek you want 2k stay on the field

  11. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

If we don’t CB in the 1st round next year, keep an eye on Indiana’s D’Angelo Ponds. He might be available in the 3rd as he is a small corner at 5’9, 172, 4.35 forty. He will probably be the second best cover corner in the draft, 96% grade in man/press.

Despite his size, he is also one of the best tackling CB’s in college, grading at 90% and 88% in run defense.

He shadowed Ohio State’s Jeremiah Smith (6’3, 215) last year who had 6″ more height, 43 more pounds and held him to 3 rec for 34 yards.

    Last year he had 55 tackles, 4.5 TFL, 3 INT’s and 9 PB’s.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

he looks great! When he’s making plays. What does he look like the rest of the time?

CB size (Brent Grimes) isn’t that important, if you have hops and ball skills and physicality

what I like about small CBs is they tend to be quick, with Ponds you also get the make up speed

  12. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – Don’t be ridiculous. You know as well as I do that some TE’s excel at receiving and some are blockers, and some are both. Jonnu’s not a both guy, but we signed him anyway. That’s not his issue, it’s a Grier issue. This is my last response to this nonsense!

  13. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’ve spoken a lot about how I thought they screwed up the building of this team, so it is what it is. It appears…and I emphasize appears….that they have realized they need to do something different and bulk up. I do believe we have enough talent on the team to be successful, but it’s never just about talent. My biggest issue was how they treated the LOS. If they truly are committed to building and actually helping the OL, I think this team can perform well.

Will they continue putting equity into the LOS? Will MM start actually calling a game to stick with the running game and not have these guys constantly on their heels? We’ll see. Talk is cheap. I’m hopeful but there’s a lot of work to do.

  14. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

They tried following the Rams get rich quick scheme, that obviously backfired tremendously

yes, most of the players we acquired/drafted fit the bulked up theme, so that seems to be the plan for this year

We’re going to need Grant, Savaiinaea and Phillips to forget they’re playing their rookie seasons to have much of a chance this year

MM calling plays needs to be scrapped too, but that’ll never happen, the egotistical, ah duh duh duh nerd would rather put himself before the team

MM reminds me of a politician or media person, that’s lying, so everything they say needs to be evaluated to fit the narrative, causing the slow unnatural speech

MM isn’t lying, but he follows the same approach, his narrative needs to fit the I’m smarter than you theme

  15. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

This is BS, nevermind, that missing the decimal point excuse would’ve been $500 and not $5000, but if the bank or business made the error the lady sure in shit would’ve had to pay the money back

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Happened to me last year. Except is wasn’t that bad. They had an “option” for 100% tip. I wasn’t wearing my reading glasses and thought it was 10% tip. For me it only cost me $17.00 so I didn’t hassle with the bank or trying to get it back. I just DO NOT TIP with those machines anymore. EVER.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Who the fuck ever willing tips 100%?

It was the first option on the pad (obviously set up that way to make people fuck up)

  16. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Randy, I think they need to draft on both sides of the OL again next draft. The 2026 draft looks to be promising at OT and not a bunch of these OT’s who project to move inside either. We should be able to get a solid true OT prospect in the 2nd round.

On the DL, I really like DT Aaron Graves from Iowa. He projects to go in the 3rd round right now. He’s 6’4, 300 and had 33 tackles, 8 TFL, 6 sacks, 3 FF and 3 PD’s.

  17. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I will wait to celebrate when I actually SEE it, but this makes one feel a little bit better about where the team is at:

Following a recent OTA practice session, Waddle shared how he has been impressed with one unit that has had Dolphins fans quite worried, the secondary. His impressions should at least quell some of the concerns.

“They look extremely good. I’m not going to lie to y’all, they are making it really tough on the receivers. They are playing true to their technique. I think they are doing a good job of taking what they do in individual [drills] to when we go into team [drills].

They look really, really good. I’m not even going to lie to y’all. We’re going to need them to step up and be key for us. I’m happy that they are doing extremely good.”

Accentuating the positive for the delicate souls who can’t take the bashing anymore…🤣

  18. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Rock – I’m thoroughly convinced! We’ll have the best secondary in the NFL and Tua will be Offensive Player of the Year and Superbowl MVP!

M13, I remember E-40. Have not heard anything about him in years. Honestly, I thought he passed away. Talented dude!

    ————

Man, I LUV E-40! He’s one of the good guys in the biz. As I’ve made connections in the music biz over the years, 40 is somebody I’ve never once made contact with. I’ve made friends with several of his producers, but never 40 himself…. SVUCKS!

Yeah, he’s still live and kickin’ and healthier than ever before. He was once close to 400 pounds as I understand. Living LEGEND!

I’d love to see Dax and E-40 get together for a track… that would be GRAND!

I’ll play. The coolest dream I ever had I was a ninja fighting in a kinda dim, multilevel bar full of other ninjas with a bo staff. It was like an old 1970s kung fu movie/Matrix. It was decades ago, but I still remember it vividly. Fricking awesome.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

NICE, Randy! I’ve been training with a bo staff for several years now.

I found this old, solid steel rod about 60″ in length with a diameter just slightly larger than a standard bo staff about 5 years ago. It weighs about 40 pounds and I use it (spin it, twirl it, swing it) like a real bo staff to keep in shape. GREAT workout, man. Great for the lats, the pecs, the arms (biceps and triceps), the wrists, and the upper abdomen region.

Then, I got a bamboo bo staff a couple of years ago (a REAL bo staff). It weighs about -40 pounds (probably 5 pounds in reality) after I work out with the 40 pound solid steel staff, LOL.

I will NEVER BE Ray Park (nobody EVER will be), but I can do close to this…
