2025 Season – Game 12 – Saints @ Dolphins

Dolphins fans everywhere are watching the games and hoping for losses for teams that are currently ahead of us in the playoff standings. I think that’s fine, if you’re 7 years old and don’t really know anything about football, our Dolphins team, our Dolphins Head Coach, and our Dolphins QB. On the other hand, if you’re acutely aware of all those things, well, I either admire your resolve or just think you’re crazy, or both. I don’t care how many games in a row we win, I don’t see this team as a playoff contender at all. I see the “In the Hunt” graphics for the playoffs, we’re at the bottom there at 4-7, but we do have a favorable schedule. It continues this weekend with our game at 1PM at home at Hard Rock against the New Orleans Saints. The Saints are actually worse than our Dolphins. Tyler Shough is the QB and veteran RB Alvin Kamara will be OUT so RB Devin Neal will be getting the start.

We’ll probably be running the De’Von Achane Show once again, until someone absolutely shuts it down, or until Achane finally breaks. If I asked you which player on the team has the most receptions, you might think Jaylen Waddle right? Of course not, we’re the Achanes, not the Dolphins. Achane has 54 receptions, which is 5 more than WR Jaylen Waddle and then 21 more than the next closest receiver, WR Malik Washington who has 33. We’re so ridiculously reliant on Achane, who I firmly believe is way important than QB Tua Tagovailoa. Achane is the cog that keeps offense going. Anyone can throw screens and 5-10 yard passes to Achane, and the truth is, the Achanes are only scoring 20 points per game, so any notion that this team needs Mike McDaniel and Tua together because they’re so successful together, I have to wonder what success even means. Right now we’re 4-7, and our offensive genius is managing only 20 points per game, good for 24th in the league. For some contrast, DC Anthony Weaver with his bad of unheralded defenders and rookies are now 21st in the NFL in points allowed. Who’s the genius?

Things I’d love to see this weekend would be giving more opportunities to both running backs Ollie Gordon and Jaylen Wright. They say time is money, and I say draft capital is money too. We used a 2024 4th RD pick (#120) as well as trading a 2025 3rd RD pick (#79) to draft him. If we have to watch Tua every week most likely this season and next, shouldn’t we try to see what we have in Wright because of the draft capital we gave up for him? I’d like to see the offense get a little more well rounded, using more than just De’Von Achane. I’m guessing Mike McDaniel doesn’t care if Achane is worn down to nubs as long as he gets to keep his job, so we can probably guess that it will remain the “Achane Show” until he’s unavailable.

It would also be nice to see our young players like LG Jonah Savaiinaea and DL Kenneth Grant and Zeek Biggers continue to develop and give us some hope for the future. As per usghe, I’ll make my weekly plea to see QB Quinn Ewers get some playing time, but realistically, he needs practice reps with the starters and and that will only occur when we either lose one more game which will pretty much seal us out of “In the Hunt” status. The other option of course is if QB Tua Tagovailoa gets injured which is extremely unlikely, not because he’s an iron man, but because he plays like a guy scared to get hurt and doesn’t put himself in harms way, ever. That’s fine when you’re up 3 TD’s but if you need plays, you know you can count on him not to make them to stay safe. Maybe we can use our TE’s and WR’s a little more too, let Waddle have a big game, and feed Malik Washington and Maybe even get Nick Westbrook-Ikhine some chances. It’s looking less likely that TE Darren Waller will play this weekend but very likely that he’ll be back next weekend. The Dolphins should be OK against the toothless Saints who have no offense with or without RB Alvin Kamara, scoring only 15 PPG, 31st in the NFL. They make our offense look like a juggernaut!

100% agreed on Achane being overused, possibly leading to a very serious injury. I think many in Dolphins’ Nation would concur.

  7. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’d like to see Achane start the game in the slot, with Wright as the RB

Agree on getting Ikhine some touches

OL seems to be Ok, playing with an FB and Brunskill eligible running the ball, with Jackson we may get a better idea of what the pass blocking was supposed to be

Going forward we should, within reason, get guys ready for 2026 even at the expense of wins

  9. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – it’s more than just Grier now though. It’s MM’s over reliance on Achane and not trusting either Wright or Gordon to get chances. I wonder if we lose a game if that will change because I think one loss will put the playoff talk to sleep

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

what does that have to do with talking about where/how a guy is drafted?

Play guys that have talent, deserve a shot based on what they show in practice

If they can contribute take a chance

I’d also like to see Tahj given a shot

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If you read the article, you’d know. The main reason we’re going to continue to play Tua is his salary. I equated draft capital with salary. They’re both important, you expend either on a player, you want something out of them. It’s time to get some value out of those picks

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

where do you think the 7 yr old came from

we aren’t playing Tua, because of his contract, he gives us the best chance to win

I’m done with Tua, but hard to argue Ewers or Wilson are better

things the Fins did well this season

our O needs a makeover, in other words a new HC

    ———-

I fundamentally disagree with this statement. Why? Those cats drafted 3 years ago should be showing up and being the core of this team… they aren’t. That’s an indictment on how poorly General Grief had drafted — in this instance — 3 years ago, thus his dismissal mid-season.

And cats we’d drafted 4 and 5 years ago under General Grief? They earned their right to become FAs.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And WHY? Because we needed to clear enough cap space for FAs ‘Reek, Ramsey, and the looming contract extension of Tua… who has regressed due to injuries.

      Drafts Matter.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

General Grief may be gone, but we’re still sleeping in the bed he created… and will continue to for several years.

NOBODY… not a new GM or new HC is going to get us out of the mess Grief put us in for several years.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      yes, all true

my point was talking or worrying about where a player was drafted is like crying about spilled milk. It’s in the past let it go

we don’t need to play someone, because of where they were drafted and it does not good to worry about what was given up to acquire them

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the talk of MM being retained has nothing to do with Tua’s contract

if Tua is gone after the 2026 season what’s the point in retaining MM, just to make Tua look better?

it appears MMs Tua project is already over we’re a running team now

  16. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Curious to hear your opinions on this. Not sure if any of you were watching the Eagles vs Bears game. Eagles down 24-15 with about 3:30 remaining in the game after scoring a TD. Would you go for 2 then or kick the extra point and stay alive? My immediate take was kick the extra point, try to hold the Bears, get the ball back, and then try to score another TD and then go for 2. If you miss the first time, it’s game over. I don’t see why you do that?. If you score two TD’s, I feel like you have all the momentum in the world on your side. What do you think?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I agree with you, I don’t think going for 2 early makes any sense

unless you’re down multiples of 8 always extra point

never notice before the forty second clock in college, after the play, it doesn’t start right away.So there could actually be forty three forty four seconds between plays

  19. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Honestly, I agree more with Steve on this topic. Grier was an idiot, and his replacement will hopefully not be drafting lots of RBs. So…seeing what the backup RBs are worth isn’t really important because they are easily replaceable with late draft picks or undrafted dudes. Just based off SF, their #2 RB has twice as many yards as Gordon with a similar number of touches. No one cares what his worth is. Another example is the Ravens. No one gives a shit what Rasheen Ali and Keaton Mitchell do. Easily replaceable position.

Same for Ewers. It would be nice to see what he has as a backup but that’s what he is. A permanent backup QB. Dude wasn’t amazing in college and he’s not going to beat out an amazing QB. He helps us get more losses is his primary value. That’s just not that important at this point when we have no chance of beating Tenn, the Saints, Raiders, Jets, or Giants for a top tier player. He would have been good early if we sat Tua but that’s not an option right now.

Honestly, the only important decision is if we keep McFailure and the backup GM. I’m hoping not and I’d love to see us push for John Harbaugh or Chucky. Either one would ensure we get a solid GM because they have connections to talented individuals. That’s what we really need. A pipeline to great talent evaluators.

  20. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Only go for 2 when you have to. Don’t chase pts

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – From what I hear, the people saying MM needs to come back because Tua will still be here and they work well together. It’s as if bringing in anew HC would be unfair to Tua. I could be wrong, but that’s how I interpret the situation. I guess we’ll see what happens at season’s end

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Lol! Unfair to Tua, fuck Tua he held Grier for ransom and Grier’s candy ass caved

Tua is the reason we have a cloudy future, he ca go suck a bag of dicks

  22. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Big win for Texas last night. Though, Arch Manning is still shaky. He has a way to go.

  23. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Indiana was Indiana yesterday. Their offense is so balanced, almost to perfection. Purdue had a good game plan to stop their passing game. Fernando Mendoza had his worst game I had ever seen. Purdue dropped 3 potential INT’s. I have said this twice before, Mendoza does not throw a good back shoulder pass. He always throws to the defenders side of the WR.

Good thing is they could turn to their really good OL and run the ball as they ran for 355 yards vs Purdue. Mendoza will have to be on his “A” game if they face Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship.

  24. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Another thing about Indiana and I will get off my homer bandwagon, I like the way their defense attacks. They lead the nation in tackles for loss and they do it mostly with their front 4. It’s like they run a 4-3 but their DE’s are more like big Edge/OLB. Almost like they run a 2-5-4.

One Edge on Indiana I like is Stephen Daily, 6’1, 260. He’s a senior transfer from Kent State. He has 35 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 2 FF and he leads the nation in tackles for loss with 18 going against some good OL in the Big Ten.

I think he would be worth a late day 3 pick if we were to double down on edge.

  25. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

From the IU/Purdue game, another player who caught my eye was Purdue senior ILB Mani Powell, 6’2, 230. He leads the Big Ten in tackling with 110 tackles, 12 TFL, 5 sacks and 1 FF.

He would be another late day 3 option.

  26. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

More good matchups today. I think we could see anywhere from 1 to 3 upsets today.

  27. bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

  28. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

What a bullshit non-reversal call in the Ohio State/Michigan game. Jeremiah Smith was bobbling the ball crossing the goal line. Didn’t regain possession until after his right foot landed partly out of bounds. It should have been a touchback.

Vega Ioane is an interesting prospect on that OL. Actually, I read where he is much better in pass pro than in run blocking. He could be one of the best pass pro OG’s in this next draft. Though, I don’t think he is a great fit for ZBS as a run blocker. I’m not sure if he is quick enough for a ZBS but he sure does have power and a good anchor.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

I suppose that depends on whether or not McDaniel is here or not. It would actually be pretty detrimental to the growth of this team if we draft and have drafted lineman for a ZBS, and then McDaniel is gone this year or next.

if you look around the league, PSU has put some pretty good OL into the NFL. Not a ton of elite players, but definitely solid ones that have stuck around a while.

We should have a minimum of 20 points right now. The Tua effect.

  85. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Shedeur Sanders 8/11 for 96 yards and a really nice 34 yard TD against a good 49’ers team. Rookie 5th rounder. Tua, 6th year in the league, 6/12 for 87 yards and another ugly int to his league leading 13. Just pick someone, anyone. They can’t be much worse.

at this point Tua is nothing more than a game manager, that won’t stick his neck on the line, even a little bit, to make a play

I don’t care what they told him to do, he doesn’t even stand in the pocket to throw against pressure

      • New Age's avatar New Age says:

He’s Geno Smith but paid a lot more and a lot younger. Both have been 6-year starters. Gino has had three 3600+ passing yard seasons. Tua has only had one. Both should be backups but I hope we can fool someone in 2027.

  90. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

This fucking team and the way they use timeouts. What the fuck

  91. manitobafinfan's avatar manitobafinfan says:

  92. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

We had 1:02 on the clock and ran 3 fucking plays before having to kick it

    stupid TO by MM

  97. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Seriously, how do you go into the 2026 season thinking Tua is your starting QB?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’ve hated MM with a passion, but really starting to think everything is Tua’s fault

Tua did some good things earlier in his career, even last year, but now its painfully obvious he’s going to retire soon

he got his money, now he’s just going thru the motions
