Like a stairway to heaven, the Miami Dolphins have been taking all the right steps to get back to legitimacy. Firing former GM Chris Grier was STEP 1. Sitting QB Tua Tagovailoa was STEP 2. Finally firing Head Coach Mike McDaniel was STEP 3. Hiring GM Jon-Eric Sullivan was STEP 4. The next step hopefully complete the cycle in a positive way. The most important thing the Miami Dolphins did was hire what seems like a truly competent man to run the Organization. He has the requisite scouting background and was responsible for building the roster in Green Bay, and he had done well there in that capacity. Now, there is one man who is above all others, and he will have the final say on all things involving the team as far as players and personnel.
Head Coach John Harbaugh is not coming here. Ross is a pretty malleable guy, especially when it comes to getting what he wants, but it appears that John Harbaugh truly does want the keys to the kingdom and all its riches, and I don’t believe Ross will accommodate that. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any excellent candidates for the Miami Dolphins to hire. There’s a Head Coach not named John Harbaugh that has nearly an identical record as Head Coach in the NFL.
John Harbaugh 180-113. .614 Playoffs 13-11
Mike McCarthy 174-112 .608 Playoffs 11-11
Uncanny that over a span of 18 years, that these two coaches are so close in their records, for different teams in different conferences, Harbaugh all 18 with the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC, and McCarthy with 13 years with the Green Bay Packers and then 5 with the Dallas Cowboys, all in the NFC. I’m not advocating for the hiring of Mike McCarthy, but should we be looking for a Head Coach with a resume quite even with Jim Harbaugh’s, he exists. I know we have struck out with hiring first time Head Coaches, from Nick Saban to Cam Cameron to Tony Sparano to Joe Philbin to Adam Gase to Brian Flores and finally to Mike McDaniel. Just like some of the QB’s in the NFL, a lot of it is timing. Look at Baker Mayfield, and Sam Darnold. Both players flourishing after failing in their first NFL contracts, and the same goes for Coaches. I think it’s possible that both Brian Flores and Mike McDaniel can succeed for their next teams, they just have to be the right fit for that organization. If Tua stayed healthy and competitive, Mike McDaniel might still be here.
I’m 100% not against hiring another first time Head Coach. There’s been a lot of discussion over GB DC Jeff Hafley. The LA Rams DC is a household name in Miami, Chris Shula. Former Miami Dolphins DC Anthony Campanile is a hot name right now too. I have to say I loved that guy’s attitude and fire while he was here. If you watched last night’s game, Indiana’s Head Coach Curt Cignetti might garner some interest, although I have no idea whether he would want to enter the NFL ranks. The point is, there are options out there, and all is not lost if we don’t get John Harbaugh, who no doubt is an excellent candidate. Most of all, I trust that we have the right man in place to make that most important decision, and once again I stress that it will be HIS decision, and that decision will refelct directly on him, no one else. Full accountability and responsibility. The right way! Finally!
GO DOLPHINS!!!

foistest
good read Mike, you misses an “h” on “has” in the first paragraph.
Also, I would like to add an additional step that you didn’t mention
The two co-chief scouts were also relieved of their duties.
Finally!!! And, as Rock may or may not have alluded to, the scouting department was gutted of their executives.
Thank you, Mike E.
This might be a stairway to Dolphin’s heaven….lol.
I’m excited about JES!
You missed a step, Mike. The firing of the long-tenured head scouts was important. They were part of the problem as well.
Regarding Harbaugh, I agree. If he wants to be king let him go somewhere else. Miami has already had King Parcells and how did that work out? McCarthy is interesting. Beyond his overall record, he went 43-25 in four years with the Cowboys. Also was fined two years in a row for practice violations. Can’t say the game has passed him by since he coached through 2024. And he dealt with the Jerry Jones so there is that.
Guess I owe Rock and Krishna beers
I work and golf with a cowboys fan .. as soon as harbaugh was let go he told me leave him alone Dallas wants him .. said we can have McCarthy , but hands off Harbaugh.. then proceeded to remind me he is a horrid click manager , especially in final 2 minutes .. I asked if had watched any of our games 3rd and 4 th quarters.. we have a pretty low bar to attain
Was step 1 the firing of our ST’s coordinator? I dunno. LOL
Phelon – I misstep all the fucking time! lol
Cignetti being well paid at Indiana, he would have to want to coach in the NFL. I think he would have Saban in his ear telling him not to make the jump. Him and Saban have very close ties.
That said, Cignetti said he likes to build his teams like the good NFL teams do. He builds his team through good recruiting (like the draft) then fills in the roster and makes it better with experienced and productive players through the transfer portal (like free agency).
I don’t think he would even entertain the move.
Not every coach wants to or has to coach in the NFL, and I can respect that.
I had Indiana RB Kaelon Black penciled in as a UDFA want and be RB4 on the roster. I think he has improved his draft stock to the point he gets drafted. Especially with all this national exposure. The dude is 5’10, 210 pounds of rocked up muscle.
I hate that Indiana lost their top 2 edge players for the season and another is really banged up. They made it work the last 2 games but will be tougher vs Miami with their big OL and Fletcher at RB.
As a big back prospect, I absolutely love Fletcher!!!
Mesidor had his arm fallen on in the last game, but I doubt it will keep him from playing in the championship game.
Yeah, Mesidor came back in the game after the injury but was favoring that arm. Indiana has some solid OT’s. The game is going to be interesting.
Bain gets gassed easily. Hopefully Indiana can get their run game going.
Toney is a matchup nightmare.
Toney may be the closest I’ve seen to Tyreek. Those bursts and directional changes are impressive and he’s only a freshman.
I’m so used to writing JEST when talking about that NY team, so when I see JES in a comment now, I think of them first. LOL
It’s funny, yesterday I said it’s a good thing his name isn’t Jon-Eric Thomas Sullivan
LOL, nice. I didn’t catch that.
Can’t we just call him Sullivan or Sully or is that too many letters? 😂
Rock – The steps I mentioned were the things in my head that I wanted to happen. You’re 100% correct though that firing the scouting dept was a big move.
Thank you for the write-up/article. Go Phins!!!
Jordyn Brooks gets first team All Pro but didn’t make the Pro Bowl.
Yea, the Pro Bowl has been stupid for decades now.
👍
Dolphins, with GM in place, reach out to John Harbaugh over coaching vacancy
The Miami Dolphins have immersed themselves into the John Harbaugh sweepstakes.
The Dolphins finally reached out to Harbaugh to let him know they are interested in him for their coaching vacancy, according to an ESPN report Saturday morning. Miami reportedly reached out upon finalizing an agreement to bring new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan on board.
The Dolphins hadn’t previously contacted Harbaugh as they were prioritizing the GM search, moving quickly through the search and interview process to land Sullivan, who came from the Green Bay Packers where he was vice president of player personnel.
Sullivan is now spearheading the coaching search with Dolphins owner Steve Ross, according to a league source. Hall of Fame Dallas Cowboys quarterback and current television analyst Troy Aikman is remaining with the team in an advisory role through the coaching search, after aiding in the GM search and selection.
https://www.sun-sentinel.com/2026/01/10/dolphins-with-gm-in-place-reach-out-to-john-harbaugh-over-coaching-vacancy/
It doesn’t hurt to try at least.
No matter what, they did things the right way by locking down the best GM candidate they felt available and then having him aid in the search for the next HC.
Absolutely, I agree.
Are Harbaugh’s demands really true?
I don’t know, but if Ross wants him he will do whatever he can to secure him IMHO.
Good move, Sully.
I will be seriously bummed if we hire McCarthy.
Why? He is a viable candidate IMO. He would be at the top of my list if were don’t get Harbaugh.
McCarthy hasn’t done squat without a superstar QB.
TBF, neither has any other coach that wasn’t with the Eagles.
Not many have, but his overall record is impressive, which means our new GM needs to get him a QB. Mike McCarthy’s win-loss record is strong overall (around 180+ wins, high winning percentage), making him one of the NFL’s winningest coaches historically, He won a Super Bowl in Green Bay.
Even his worse 42-25 win loss record beats MM 35-35 win loss record evey time.
markey,
I wanted to see if I could beat you to a post of the stats! Lol
I didn’t even know if it was gonna work.
LOL! You did!
sb7mvp,
And that would be part of the reason I always say it is far more about your players than your coach. Philly also has a QB who plays his best in SBs and a fantastic overall team. It wasn’t Sirianni.
That’s why I spent the last couple of days saying the GM hire was more important to get right than the HC.
There’s not a lot of must get HC candidates out there right now anyway IMO. They all have major flaws.
I don’t think insider NFL guys look at a guy’s record when they consider them anyway.
I don’t know why but woke up today thinking Harbaugh will not be the guy. I think he will go where he gets the most power and a weaker division where he can have immediate and consistent success.
I can see Arthur Blank/Falcons giving him that power and not one team finished above .500 in the NFC South.
markey,
I’m past feeling giddy about 10 win seasons where we slip into the Wildcard and get our asses kicked. I’ll take 5 years of suck to get to a serious contender over another 25 years of mediocrity
I’m not sure how many years I have left, so I want the type of turnaround the Patriots had this season. 🙂
In addition to the 4 futures contracts Miami just gave out, they released DT Simeon Barrow, DB Jack Henderson, TE Chris Myarick, and OT Kadeem Telfort.
I believe all practice squad guys they decided not to bring back on a futures contract.
From New York Post
At least one team didn’t wait long to reach out to fired Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel about its head coaching vacancy. McDaniel will interview for the Titans job on Wednesday, according to NFL Network. He and the Dolphins parted ways Thursday after four seasons and a disappointing 7-10 record in 2025.
sb7,
It all depends on how these teams structure things. My guess is HCs and GMs both have lots of input on personnel issues. I believe the GM should always have the final say, but that doesn’t mean the GM isn’t just giving the coach what he wants sometimes. Coaches know more about what the team in their minds need. GMs don’t. I hope they all come to a consensus
The GM should “ALWAYS” have the final say but they also need to comunicate with the HC and both agree on the type of players they are looking for.
But if they come to disagree than the GM gets the call.
Brooks, Brewer earn AP All-Pro honors
The Associated Press announced Saturday its annual All-Pro teams and two Dolphins players were among the honorees. Linebacker Jordyn Brooks earned first-team AP All-Pro honors, while center Aaron Brewer was named to the second team.
It is the first All-Pro honor of Brooks’ career and the first first-team selection for Miami since wide receiver Tyreek Hill in 2023. Brooks is the first Dolphins defensive player to earn the accolade since cornerback Xavien Howard in 2020 and the first inside linebacker to do so since Hall of Famer Zach Thomas in 2006.
In his sixth NFL season and his second with the Dolphins, Brooks started all 17 games in 2025 and finished the season as the NFL’s leading tackler. He tallied 183 tackles (99 solo), 3.5 sacks, 13 tackles for loss, three passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery on the season. He was the only player in the NFL to post 150-plus tackles, 10-plus tackles for loss and at least 3.0 sacks. He was also one of only two players to record eight games of 11-plus tackles and the only one to post two games of 18 stops or more. Brooks’s 183 tackles in 2025 are the fourth-most stops in a single season in franchise history. Brooks, who joined the Dolphins as a free agent in 2024, was voted a team captain by his teammates for the first time in his career ahead of his second season with the team in 2025.
It is also the first All-Pro accolade for Brewer, who is the first Dolphins center to be named to the second team since Dwight Stephenson in 1983.
Brewer anchored an offensive line that led the way for a rushing attack that averaged 4.7 yards per rush, the fourth-best mark in the NFL in 2025. He allowed only one sack in 2025, according to PFF, which was tied for the least among starting centers across the league. The offensive line did not allow a sack in four games all year, the third most in the NFL, trailing only Jacksonville and Houston, each of which had five. The Dolphins rushed for at least 100 yards in each of those four games, becoming one of only four teams in 2025 to record 100-plus rushing yards without allowing a sack in four or more games (Jacksonville, 5; Detroit, 4; Houston, 4). Brewer, who also joined the Dolphins in 2024, served as a team captain for the first time in his career in 2025.
I think MM and QB Cam Ward might be a good fit for each other.
I wonder if Sully would have accepted the job with McDaniel in place?
No, if he would have the Dolphins would have never let MM go. The guy is not a good HC and a bad game manager!
I’m pretty sure MM’s fate was decided during the GM interviews
Yes, like none of them wanted him…LOL
Hey! How about that nice OL performance this year?!?! Anybody? Hello?
Lol…it was shocking….all Achane, imo.
All Achane? Really! LOL The oline despit the injuries played well, and it had everything to do with why Achane had a successful season. Even Jaylen Wright had good numbers despite not being given the rock more like they should have.
Wright 70 carries for 288 yards and avergae of 4.1 per carry.

I no longer think we are in the running either
I though we were going to hire his GM buddy – but we went a different route
I can’t say it’s any better or worse but I think we are far more likely to hire McCarty or make a play at LeFleur than hire Harbaugh
I think it’s best Ross doesn’t go all out on Harbaugh – we are likely to get used to drive up his price IMO
we have a request in for Kubiak and also Salah as well as Harbaugh
so far those are the 3 guys we’ve openly expressed interest in
also Stefanski
maybe Vance Joseph too
I am starting to believe…lol…or is it I want to believe…omfg

Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver completed an interview for Atlanta’s head coaching position, the team announced.
Niners defensive coordinator Robert Saleh was requested to interview for Miami’s head coaching job, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula, the grandson of legendary Dolphins coach Don Shula, was requested to interview for Miami’s head coaching job, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported.
Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak is expected to interview for Miami’s head coaching job on Saturday, Pelissero reported.
If we’re interviewing a bunch of coordinators that will first time HC’s, I hope we bring in Chris Shula
pork minds think alike
we just requested a meeting with him
they just reported that we requested an interview with Chris Shula – that’s really the 1 coordinator I want to hire
looks like Robert Hunt will play for Jags. I bet he’s jacked.
MikeE/piggy,
I don’t know much about Chris Shula as a coach. What is it you like?
His name 😂
Fast Facts: Jon-Eric Sullivan
Attacking the quarterback position
Sullivan’s earliest mentor, Ron Wolfe, had a famous approach that’s still mentioned every draft season. The idea is simple: draft a quarterback every year to build depth, create options and develop talent.
Sullivan saw the Packers transition from Brett Favre to Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love without any bridge years over the course of 20-plus seasons. Rodgers and Love were acquired while their predecessor was still at peak performance. The result: zero lag between Hall of Fame quarterbacks (Favre and Rodgers), and a young star who’s made the playoffs all three years the as Packers starter throwing for 80 touchdowns over those three seasons.
“You have to be always assessing your quarterback situation, making sure you have a triggerman you can win with.” Sullivan said.
👍
I loved Ron Wolf he new how to handel the QB situation.
One of the best!
Dolphins coach tracker: Klint Kubiak interview, John Harbaugh on list
The Miami Dolphins are shopping for a new head football coach.
Mike McDaniel‘s firing on Jan. 8 was the first step and the hiring of Jon-Eric Sullivan as the team’s new general manager was the second step.
Now, it’s on to contacting prospective coaches and setting up interviews.
The whale in the room is John Harbaugh, who was fired by the Baltimore Ravens this week. There are reports that the Dolphins have contacted Harbaugh, who also is high on the list of several other teams seeking coaches, including the New York Giants.
Tim,
That’s fine if it’s just name recognition. I really don’t know much about him. Now I gotta go do a interweb dive. Lol
I was just joking around. He is considered a good coach.
Randy – I like that Chris Shula has been working closely with Sean McVay, and that he really improved the defense in a 2 year span. You have to have the horses, and the Rams did draft well on defense the last couple of years, and they beat a lot of good teams this season, defense really showed up. They beat the Ravens 17-3, The Jags 35-7, The Seahawks 21-19, Bucs 34-7. There were also a couple of games where they gave up a lot of points, but I like what I saw from Shula and the defense. No question, the Shula name means a ton to me as well.
You just think he’s dreamy
D’Angelo Ponds is a film junky. His DC Bryant Haines said on the opening pick six that Ponds knew exactly what was going to happen. They have trained Ponds (all their DB’s) to learn the “tells” in what opposing offenses do based off of splits, formations, receiver releases, etc. Bryant Haines credits his cornerbacks coach for schooling up the Indiana secondary.
On the first play of the game, Ponds recognized the formation and the receiver splits so he decided to back off to an off coverage hoping to bait Moore into throwing his way. It worked to perfection, pick 6.
There are a few guys on my favorite list that have very high football IQs. D’Angelo Ponds is definitely one of them, as are Germie Bernard, WR; CJ Allen, LB; and Caleb Downs, safety, to name a few more.
My thoughtis all the GM interviews pointed to Capri McD needed to go.
Let Sully lead the HC acquisition. Dude has been part of a winning franchise for 2 decades. Let him do his thing. It might work, it might not. One things for sure is looks like finally Ross has gotten rid of the losing stank that’s been in place for far too long.
Part of me goes our cap situation means true rebuild and an up and rising younger head coach. And Ross has gone for that before….. what happens might depend on his latest doctor’s visit. He ain’t getting younger and feel now is the time to roll the dice.
The name Sully makes me think of someone’s drunk Bostonian uncle or that zesty old dude who landed the plane on the Hudson. The guy needs a better nickname.
it’s Monsters, Inc for me🤣
lol, same
QB Dante Moore has 4 days (1/14/26) to declare for the draft or stay in college another year. He is waiting to hear from the College Advisory Committee on his draft evaluation and where he’s expected to land before making an informed decision.
I think based on a seriously weak QB class, he will be told he is a top 10 pick and decide to enter the draft. He will have much more competition next year and could end up landing outside the top 15 picks. It will not only be a good QB class but also an elite WR class.
I think the only thing that will keep him in college is being drafted by the Jets.
I wrote this as a reply to another article on MSN earlier.
Mendoza is going #1, so Dante Moore would probably go to the Jets.
Dante, stay in school. The Jets have been the worst franchise in the NFL for the last decade, and it’s where QBs’ careers go to die. I would take the NIL money, get more experience, and stay away from the Jets. I hope people close to him tell him the same. It’s in his best interest. LOL
lol
Yea, it was an article saying that Todd McShay thinks Dante isn’t ready for the NFL yet.
I took a quick look at the top draft eligible WR’s for the 2027 draft and it is elite. A bunch of big and fast WR’s. Top 10 is all over 6′ with 7 of them 6’2 or taller. Slowest in top 10 runs a 4.42. I can see anywhere from 6-8 WR’s go in the first round in 2027.
Totally opposite from this years draft which has mostly big and slower WR’s. There is not one WR in this years top 12 that run a sub 4.4 forty. Many have a hard on for Carnell Tate but he is projected to run a 4.58 to 4.6 forty. Every draft site has him ranked a top 17 or higher draft pick. I just don’t see it. You spend a draft pick that high he better be your new #1 WR or future #1. Tate will never be a #1 WR being that slow. I bet he declines to run at the combine.
There is not one WR in this years top 12 that run a sub 4.4 forty.
———
As far as what is projected anyway.
First-round WRs are way overrated anyway. There are exceptions, like if you have the potential for the next Jerry Rice or Randy Moss, but those come once a decade if you are lucky. With that said, Jeremiah Smith may be the exception next year.
I won’t lose my mind if they hire Shula, I just find the desire silly. The name means absolutely nothing. (actually a negative for me)
It would be a challenge for him.
Hey Stangerx Damn good to see you!
And you as well Rock.

no lies there
the mystique of his name is huge. I’m looking for anything to break these down times
But in terms of his performance – the rams aren’t spending much on defense. One of the smallest salary spent on defense, yet they are fielding a top 5 defense. Hard to deny that’s good coaching
fyi

Not sure I would want to coach in Miami if my last name is Shula.
On the other hand, hire him, bring Marino back, and maybe THIS Shula could get Marino a SB win!
I am kind of with Rock on this.
we may not have the cap room it would take to sign Dan Marino
but 16th century poet, Giambattista Marino is probably within our budget and meets the name qualifier

icing on the cake is if Ross sells the team to Margot Robbie
Took me a few minutes. Lol
Gianbattista doesn’t have a very good arm and he may only be 5’3, but that was tall enough to see over the OL during the renaissance!
His biggest strength at the scouting combine was iambic pentameter
LOL
😂
What a game going on in Carolina!
Way to go Rams! Well fought game by the underdog Panthers.

Miami Dolphins
We have completed an interview with Klint Kubiak for our head coach position.
It feels like the HC search will be extensive.
Hopefully
Gotta wait until there are playoff losses too.
Chicago down 14-3 at their own 32 go for it on 4th and 4 with 5 minutes left in the half. It’s insane how much the game has changed.
Gotta say, I’m pretty happy the way we’ve approached the whole new GM and HC matter.
I’d predicted Alexander and Harbaugh, strictly based on Steve Ross and his positive hard-on for the Harbaugh’s.
IMO, so far, so good! And I’d still be more than happy with Harbaugh as our HC, but he isn’t necessarily necessary.
“Necessarily necessary”… Hmmm? 🤔
I like that Sully has been around more than a minute with a team that is always in the mix.
SAME! I’m really happy with the hiring of Sully!
As soon as they fired MM, I was back on board. I don’t care what they do as long as they got rid of that guy.
I love watching players who don’t know the rules. Love is way out of the pocket throws it away under pressure well past the LOS, and this dumb Bear in the secondary is gesticulating wildly for an intentional grounding flag.
Well clearly, that Bear player isn’t smarter than the average bear.
Sorry, that Yogi joke didn’t hit!
lol
😂 there was also a receiver in the area.
lol, even better
5 picks in the top 100 is a good start for a new GM. He’s got a lot of cap work to do. A good draft is a must.
Absolutely. CAN’T WAIT for the Draft, man. I’ve got very high hopes for us with Sully as our GM.
Yea, it was an article saying that Todd McShay thinks Dante isn’t ready for the NFL yet.
———–
Didn’t see the article but that shows how much McShay is all over the place. A week ago, McShay was saying/predicting the Raiders would choose Dante over Mendoza. Now he is saying Dante isn’t ready yet. Whatever McShay.
So, the Chris Shula led Rams defense gave up 31 points to the Panthers? Hmmm
Caleb Williams is such a mixed bag. He was #36 in completion % this past season (58.3%!!!), yet he threw for 3,942 yards, 27 TDs, and 7 INTs… 90.1 passer rating.
If he continues to grow as a passer, perhaps he becomes elite? I dunno… and he has one helluva stacked roster in terms of play-makers around him, with a decent O-Line for the first time in Chicago in forever… not to mention very good RBs.
I think he’s over-rated and will fail. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m not betting on him.
And I’m not talking about tonight’s game, I’m talking about his career trajectory.
How do the Bears not recover that? lol
I was thinking the exact same thing. Conclusion? RIGGED
Nah they didn’t recover it.
Perhaps. I hope you’re right, Tim.
How did we get Houston’s #91 3rd round pick?
Houston → Miami (PD). Houston traded a third-round selection and a 2025 sixth-round selection to Miami in exchange for their 2025 fourth- and seventh-round selections.
Thank you, sir!
Bears score a TD. Caleb Williams completion % on the night? 48.4 %!!!
We’re talking about Tim Tebow territory now.
Good game!
And just like Tim Tebow, Caleb has clutch in his DNA.
I came here too say that same thing. Williams is CLUTCH
Yessir! Good to see ya, Evan!
WTF!!! You missed the FG???
GB kicker left 7 points on the field. fucking kickers
^ YUP!
Evan,
Caleb did it again!!!
That TD was fantastic play design
And Williams as been doing this all year- so clutch
Absolutely incredible. 3rd down, 4th down, doesn’t matter. He’s making plays when he needs to. Really cool to watch a young qb that everyone doubted excel. Wish our guy had that “clutch gene” 😂😂

Packers shit the bed pretty hard the last 3 minutes of this game
Totally!
Bears turned up the pressure on both sides of the ball and Packers folded
What a comeback by the Bears
Pretty awesome day for watching the PLAYOFFS! Both games came down to the wire.
Curious to see if the Packers loss affects how they handle Lefleur
From what I’ve heard from the ‘insiders’, it didn’t matter if Lefleur won or lost today… an extension is guaranteed.
We’ll see!
I read that too

The Seahawks finished eighth in passing (5,974 yards), 10th in rushing (2,096 yards) and sixth in percentage of drives ending in scores (46%). Kubiak directed one of the most innovative offensive attacks in the NFL incorporating west coast principles, multi-faceted personnel groupings, and a power run game. No team in football achieved the same balance as Seattle, who had 507 rush attempts and 508 passing attempts this season. Prior to Seattle, Kubiak served as the offensive coordinator for the Saints in 2024, where his offense posted 47 and 44 points in his first two games ever calling plays. Previously, Kubiak was the passing game coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers (2023) and the offensive passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach for the Denver Broncos (2022), after coaching three seasons with the Minnesota Vikings (2019-21) – the first two seasons as quarterbacks coach and one year as offensive coordinator. He got his start in the NFL with the Broncos in 2016 and also has experience coaching at the collegiate level with Texas A&M and Kansas. Kubiak is the son of Gary Kubiak, longtime head coach with the Houston Texas (2006-13) and Denver Broncos (2015-2016), whom he led to a Super Bowl 50 Championship.
5 Tua Tagovailoa replacements after Dolphins end Mike McDaniel eraAll of these have their pros and cons.
By Mike Luciano|35 minutes ago
The Miami Dolphins are officially cleaning house and parting ways with the entirety of the past regime. Not only is general manager Chris Grier gone, but so is head coach Mike McDaniel after four seasons. Next up on the proverbial chopping block is recently benched quarterback Tua Tagovailoa?
Tagovailoa’s time in Miami appears to be up after 2025 went just about as poorly as one could expect. With two more very expensive seasons still on the ledger, the Dolphins might be better off biting the bullet and helping the former No. 5 overall pick find a new home.
One of these five options has to be right in the crosshairs of whoever gets hired as Miami’s next head coach.
5 Tua Tagovailoa replacements after Miami Dolphins fire Mike McDaniel
5. Quinn Ewers, Miami Dolphins
Let’s see what he’s got, no? In a thin quarterback market and on a team that doesn’t have a ton of financial flexibility, Ewers might be worth taking a look at for a new regime in Year 1 as they try to weed out some of the McDaniel guys before committing to a young gun in Year 2.
4. Garrett Nussmeier, LSU
Nussmeier might be the best Day 2 target for Miami, as his stock has fallen after he suffered a few injuries that limited his overall effectiveness. When healthy, Nussmeier shows off NFL arm talent, accuracy down the field, and a pre-snap brain that helps him identify trouble at the line of scrimmage.
3. Kirk Cousins, Atlanta Falcons
Of the veteran bridge options out on the market, Cousins may be the best of the bunch. While his mobility is lacking, Cousins’ arm and smarts can carry him to respectable production in one final go as a starter.
2. Ty Simpson, Alabama
Fernando Mendoza and Dante Moore are locked in as the top two prospects in this class, and Simpson is the bronze medalist. He could go anywhere from No. 11 overall to the second round, but his deep ball might be worth rolling the dice on for a new regime.
1. Malik Willis, Green Bay PackersWillis is going to cost a bit due to the lack of high-upside free agent options other than him, but nobody available has Willis’ combination of explosive arm talent and athletic ability. The Dolphins won’t be stuck with him if he fails, but the upside is that of a high-end starter. With new GM Jon-Eric Sullivan coming from Green Bay’s front office, I imagine he will have interest.
I don’t know who Mike Luciano is but Malik Willis is not an explosive arm talent.
“Of the veteran bridge options out on the market, Cousins”
Cousins isn’t on the market. He’s under contract until 2027.
Who is this bonehead? lol
Lol….that why I vett this shit here….thank you!
I want a QB that is 6′- 4″ or taller
Then Sawyer Robertson is about your only decent choice this draft.
Maybe Carson Beck
I think you are going to really limit yourself. Even in the big QB class of 2027 there are only 3 in the top 12 who are 6’4 or taller.
I prefer 6’2 or taller
I am fine with limiting the options as long as we get a tall QB.
Evan – It’s been confirmed again and again that Tua does not have the clutch gene. He looked more and more like a guy who just didn’t give a fuck, and that just looks awful on his character and makeup
“He looked more and more like a guy who just didn’t give a fuck, and that just looks awful on his character and makeup.”
That is when I gave up on Tua. He seemed content once he got paid and was just going through the motions.
The average height of an offensive lineman on the Miami Dolphins is approximately 6 feet 5 inches.
The heights of their offensive line players generally range from 6’1″ (center Aaron Brewer) to 6’7″ (tackle Patrick Paul). This fits the typical NFL offensive lineman height range of 6’2″ to 6’8″.
Here are the heights of some notable Miami Dolphins offensive linemen as of the 2024-2025 season:
I want a QB that is 6′- 4″ or taller
It’s challenging enough to be a starting QB, but to also have someone who has to see over an offensive line that averages 6′-5″ and you are shorter than them seems to create challenges for shorter QBs IMHO.
The good news is Packers QB Jordan Love is 6′-4″ and hopefully that is what our GM will look for in our next QB.
Drew Allar and Taylen Green are both over 6’4
Arch Manning is 6’4 and Avery Johnson is 6’3
Tank next year and go after Manning in 2027!
🙂
There are a group of Dolphins fans on X, very small group I might add that actually think Tua is still going to be the starting QB of this team. I just don’t see how that happens, unless he comes back in stellar shape and a new attitude, and I don’t see either of those things happening.
I am one who thinks it’s a possibility and agree with that, because it makes no sense to eat all the money he is due. To me, the wise choice is to start him next year and look for his replacement in 2027. While spending the draft addressing anything other than QB in 2026.
But open up the position for competition with other veteran QBs next year.
Unless we can trade him, that would be my favorite option. 🙂
I must say I really enjoyed both playoff games yesturday they went down to the wire. Hopefully, today’s games will follow that pattern.
Markey – The way I feel about Tua is unless he comes back with a much better attitude and maybe in much better physical shape, I make an example of him and either cut or sit him on the bench to show what you won’t tolerate here. I don’t care if he makes ten trillion, that fucker doesn’t touch a football and everyone will see why.
It’s really not Tua’s fault that we stupidly paid him that contract. With that being said, that would be the largest dead cap hit in NFL history if I am not mistaken.
He will earn that money if I had anything to say about it. Next year, we are going through a transition year and maybe a down year, and we will be in a position to draft a quality QB in the 2027 NFL draft.
The curent largest NFL dead cap hit ever belongs to quarterback Russell Wilson, with the Denver Broncos taking an $85 million charge spread over 2024 ($53M) and 2025 ($32M) after his 2024 release, a figure more than double the next-highest hit in history, with Matt Ryan’s $40.5 million in 2022 being the closest previous record.
I don’t want the Dolphins to beat that record! 🙂
Hopefully the Bills and Patriots are one and done after today…. 🙂
Tua, just like any player on the roster, gets a “Clean Slate” with our New HC, whoever that might be. MM was a clueless idiot. He should have given up playcalling two years ago, that is what led to his demise IMHO
If the Packers go in a different direction and hire John Harbaugh as their new HC, and Matt LaFleur becomes avaiable would you want him?
I definitely don’t want whoever his DC is.
