Miami Dolphins hire new GM Jon-Eric Sullivan

Like a stairway to heaven, the Miami Dolphins have been taking all the right steps to get back to legitimacy. Firing former GM Chris Grier was STEP 1. Sitting QB Tua Tagovailoa was STEP 2. Finally firing Head Coach Mike McDaniel was STEP 3. Hiring GM Jon-Eric Sullivan was STEP 4. The next step hopefully complete the cycle in a positive way. The most important thing the Miami Dolphins did was hire what seems like a truly competent man to run the Organization. He has the requisite scouting background and was responsible for building the roster in Green Bay, and he had done well there in that capacity. Now, there is one man who is above all others, and he will have the final say on all things involving the team as far as players and personnel.

Head Coach John Harbaugh is not coming here. Ross is a pretty malleable guy, especially when it comes to getting what he wants, but it appears that John Harbaugh truly does want the keys to the kingdom and all its riches, and I don’t believe Ross will accommodate that. That doesn’t mean there aren’t any excellent candidates for the Miami Dolphins to hire. There’s a Head Coach not named John Harbaugh that has nearly an identical record as Head Coach in the NFL.

John Harbaugh 180-113. .614 Playoffs 13-11

Mike McCarthy 174-112 .608 Playoffs 11-11

Uncanny that over a span of 18 years, that these two coaches are so close in their records, for different teams in different conferences, Harbaugh all 18 with the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC, and McCarthy with 13 years with the Green Bay Packers and then 5 with the Dallas Cowboys, all in the NFC. I’m not advocating for the hiring of Mike McCarthy, but should we be looking for a Head Coach with a resume quite even with Jim Harbaugh’s, he exists. I know we have struck out with hiring first time Head Coaches, from Nick Saban to Cam Cameron to Tony Sparano to Joe Philbin to Adam Gase to Brian Flores and finally to Mike McDaniel. Just like some of the QB’s in the NFL, a lot of it is timing. Look at Baker Mayfield, and Sam Darnold. Both players flourishing after failing in their first NFL contracts, and the same goes for Coaches. I think it’s possible that both Brian Flores and Mike McDaniel can succeed for their next teams, they just have to be the right fit for that organization. If Tua stayed healthy and competitive, Mike McDaniel might still be here.

I’m 100% not against hiring another first time Head Coach. There’s been a lot of discussion over GB DC Jeff Hafley. The LA Rams DC is a household name in Miami, Chris Shula. Former Miami Dolphins DC Anthony Campanile is a hot name right now too. I have to say I loved that guy’s attitude and fire while he was here. If you watched last night’s game, Indiana’s Head Coach Curt Cignetti might garner some interest, although I have no idea whether he would want to enter the NFL ranks. The point is, there are options out there, and all is not lost if we don’t get John Harbaugh, who no doubt is an excellent candidate. Most of all, I trust that we have the right man in place to make that most important decision, and once again I stress that it will be HIS decision, and that decision will refelct directly on him, no one else. Full accountability and responsibility. The right way! Finally!

Tuten is anything but common for the JAGS!

  2. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And the JAGs take the lead with a TD!

  3. New Age's avatar New Age says:

Coen is another great coach snagged last year. Dude has really turned around both the Jags and their QB. Lawrence still has his flaws, but this is the best he’s played since college.

  4. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Markey – that money is wasted already. Why further waste it watching an IDGAF QB with no arm or legs or a care in the world about winning show all our newly drafted rookies how NOT to be a professional football player?

    • markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

We will have to agree to disagree on this one. I am willing to see what Tua looks like next season, and if he is healthy and in shape, I would make him our starter for the 2026 season. Like I said, I don’t want to be the team that paid the largest dead money deal in NFL history.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I said that though Markey, but I wouldn’t hold my breath that he’s going to put in an extraordinary effort to do that. Sure, if he comes in with a great attitude thst he’ll do whatever the team needs to win and is in great shape, of course he has to be part of the competition for QB, but the days of just handing him the job are waaaay over, he has to earn it now

    I don’t understand football anymore.

  6. markeyh's avatar markeyh says:

Why has getting a field Goal a bad thing over no points at all?

  7. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Why are we still wondering what a veteran QB is or isn’t? Tua sucks. Bye bye can’t come soon enough. We need to move away from the sort of offense he can manage anyway. They will regret not getting rid of him immediately. Money isn’t everything.

  8. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

Jacksonville going for it and not taking the points with a lead early in the playoffs. It’s just dumb.

  9. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

This 4th down trend is just dumb. Its the first half with the lead!

  10. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Josh Allen is hurting. First a possible concussion (he cleared from the blue tent), then his passing hand got injured hitting his O-Lineman’s helmet after a pass, now his knee.

  11. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I mentioned it yesterday, it’s insane how much the game has changed. The Bears went for it on 4th down like 6 times yesterday including twice inside their own 40 in the 1st half- both of which cost them. Yet they still won.

  12. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    fucking kickers

  13. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

I understand the 4th down go for it strategy and like it most of the time. There are times where you definitely want to take the FG, but 4 chances to make a 1st instead of 3 is definitely better. McDaniel has done it numerous times. It cost Dan Campbell a shot at the Super Bowl. It’s definitely a use wisely tactic.

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

The metrics on it have really changed as the rules have changed to favor the offense. In so many games a fg is considered a losing play or a win by the defense now. It’s wild.

  14. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Romo says Allen taking a fairly soft hit to his PADDED torso and he’s taking a beating. QB announcers are pathetic.

  15. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Josh Allen on Josh Allen violence today.

  16. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I don’t think Lawrence has looked very good today. He’s missed on a number of throws.

  17. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Jacksonville has got to stick to their running game

  18. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Time of possession

    Bills: 25:57 Jags: 15:40

  19. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

That must be the Lawrence of the regular season. He made some excellent throws on that drive.

  20. Randy's avatar Randy says:

They might be trying to bait Allen into an INT. Jax has a good enough defense to win this.

  21. Randy's avatar Randy says:

If they actually spot that ball where he started to give himself up, he wasn’t close.

  22. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

    Rams/ Panthers – 28 points in the 4th

    Packers/ Bears – 31 points in the 4th

    Bills/ Jags – 14 points 6 minutes into the 4th

  23. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    JAGs* back on top again!

It’s shaping up to be another fantastic finish to this game!

  24. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m going to say this preemptively… if the Bills end up losing this game and Sean McDermott gets fired, I’m not interested in hiring him as our HC.

If ya can’t win with Josh Allen as your QB, with a venerable Defense over the last several seasons (not so much this season), and you have a RB in James Cook who led the NFL in rushing yardage this season… you ain’t “IT”.

Dolphins ask to interview sixth coach candidate, one who has ties to new GM

The Dolphins are requesting to interview Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, according to a league source confirming an initial ESPN report Sunday afternoon.

Hafley, 46, has held that role in Green Bay, where Sullivan was vice president of player personnel, for two seasons. Incidentally, he succeeded Joe Barry, Dolphins linebackers coach the past two years, in that role for the Packers.

Hafley joins the five coach interview requests revealed Saturday: former Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh, former Cleveland Browns coach Kevin Stefanski, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator and former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Chris Shula.

Another caveat to Green Bay’s defeat, after leading 21-3, is that Packers coach Matt LaFleur could now be on the hot seat. If Green Bay were to let LaFleur go, a reunion with Sullivan in Miami could be in the works.

  26. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I can’t believe they didn’t respot that ball

  27. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

TWO plays in a row where the zebras favored the Bills! BS!!!

  28. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Another example of how the rules have warped everything. Nobody wants to get flagged for hitting a QB or throwing his ass to the ground, and they get another 10 yards. Ridiculous

  29. Randy's avatar Randy says:

could have easily been a flag. Holding his hip.

  30. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Sometimes I wonder if it’s not the Dolphins that are cursed, rather that it’s me. It seems like every week, whichever team I root for fucking loses. I’m 0-3 in the playoffs so far.

I’m rooting for the Eagles to beat the Niners if anyone wants to bet a boatload of money on the Niners, lol.

  31. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    RIGGED GAME, IMO!!!

It’s kind of amazing. I don’t really hate any team right now, and much more importantly, I don’t hate the Miami Dolphins anymore either. I’m feeling happy where we’re at and I feel like we have a bright future here. It’s so strange, but I really don’t want Harbaugh

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I’ve been reading he’s narrowed it down to 3 or 4 teams and we’re not on the list.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Good! I don’t want him coming here and fucking up the organizational team balance. We hired a competent guy in JES and I really don’t want Harbaugh coming here and taking over everything. I trust in JES to choose the right Head Coach

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

He might go to Cleveland. He grew up a Browns fan being from Akron and he gets to play the Ravens twice a year.

  36. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

For the Browns, they would be better off with Harbaugh

  37. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Remember hiw explosive Kittle used to be? What happened to him? They hardly use him anymore

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Yeah, injuries have really impacted him. I remember thinking he was up there as the best TE in the NFL a couple years ago, but he hasn’t sustained it.

  40. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

  43. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Just a reminder. Sullivan doesn’t go by ‘JES’, either…

Hiring him as our HC would keep our Offense in the WCO mentality. His father was an incredible football mind, who I give more credit than Mike Shanahan for the success of the Denver Broncos in the late 90s… Kubiak and Alex Gibbs (RIP).

    • sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Yeah, I was pounding the table for his dad back when we were moving on from Philbin so he could better utilize Tannehill’s strengths, but then we got follow the taco eyes.

Dolphins Could Get Cap Relief With Release of All-Pro

The Dolphins’ new management group will have to make a few tough decisions in their first offseason. Perhaps none more important than the decision of five-time All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill. The Dolphins star receiver has a $51 million cap hit in the 2026 season, and he’ll be coming off a dislocated knee injury that cost him a majority of the season. His 2025 season carried a $27.6 million cap hit. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, stated that Hill will be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season. Despite that, a $51 million cap hit for a receiver coming off a major injury may be too much for the Dolphins to take on.

ESPN analyst Marcel Louis-Jacques said, “there’s no way Hill returns on his current deal — if at all.” Additionally, Miami Herald writer Barry Jackson said, Tyreek Hill is “expected to be a cap casualty.” Hill has no guaranteed money left on his deal.
