Dolphins trade back and then trade up in RD 1

It wasn’t the guy I expected us to draft, but it was the position I wanted without question. The O-line is a joke, we have 2 players on that line that are solid in LT Patrick Paul and C Aaron Brewer. That’s it! Jon-Eric Sullivan’s first move in the 2026 NFL Draft was trading back from #11 to #12, one spot with the Dallas Cowboys. We acquired two 5th RD picks, #177 and #180 to move back one spot, and break the hearts of quite a few fans here who wanted S Caleb Downs. One guy who probably was thrilled with the pick was RB De’Von Achane, and another guy was certainly QB Malik Willis. I’m looking forward to having these massive bookends on our O-line, it’s been way too long since this O-line was a strength, and not coincidentally, way too long since this team was a legit contender. Patrick Paul at 6’7 326 and Kadyn Proctor 6’7 352.

Jon-Eric Sullivan’s next trade in the draft was a trade up, as the Dolphins moved from RD1 Pick #30 to Pick #27 by trading Pick #30 and Pick #90 (RD 3) for the #27 Pick and and a 4th RD pick #138. The Dolphins at #27 selected San Diego St. Cornerback Chris Johnson. The 6’0 193lb CB will undoubtedly be pushed to start at the very important CB position. I had hoped we never traded up in this draft, I want more picks, but we really didn’t lose any picks, we just moved back from RD 3 to RD 4. Listen, it’s way too early to judge picks, but I would say the majority of us figured we’d go O-line and CB, and that’s precisely what we did. If/when S Caleb Downs is a perennial All Pro, and Kadyn Proctor is 6’7 380 and the fattest turnstile in Dolphins history, go ahead, pound your chest because you were right. On the other hand, if OT Kadyn Proctor is a motivated player here, and is mauling defenders at the LOS and downfield with regularity and provides solid protection for our QB, I won’t have a care in the world what Caleb Downs is doing.

Day 2 coming up tonight at 7:30 will have the Dolphins waiting 11 spots at Pick #43 and then we’ll have three selections in RD 3, #75, 87 and 94. I won’t be shocked (or disappointed) if we tap a guy for the O-line again in RD 3. LT Patrick Paul, LG Jonah Savaiinaea, C Aaron Brewer, RG Kadyn Proctor, RT Austin Jackson (if healthy). 2 gaping holes bigger than the space between Michael Strahan’s two front teeth that needed to be filled. I personally do not want to hand Big Jonah that job, and I also didn’t want to see OG Jamaree Salyer start at RG. I’m aware we could have selected an OG later and we still might do that. How many times have we been failed by the O-line? How many times have we had to watch an injury torpedo the success of that unit? Two injuries? If not injuries, just out and out subpar play? It’s been a nightmare, and we took one step in attempting to fix that. You all saw the run on the O-line, it was real, and it will probably continue.

I think we’ll probably grab a WR and possibly a TE as well, but where, who knows? I’m curious to see if we move back again in RD 2, that wouldn’t surprise me. We definitely need EDGE help so RD 2 would be a good place to grab one. Players still available at the EDGE position are Zion Young, Cashius Howell, T.J. Parker, Gabe Jacas, Derrick Moore and R. Mason Thomas. We’ll see if we nab one of those guys in RD 2, and then maybe find a WR and another O-lineman. I know some of you love Penn St. EDGE Dani Dennis-Sutton. Maybe we take him. Maybe he would help you guys recover from us not taking Caleb Downs. I know you guys liked him, I respect that, but how did he all of a sudden become a Hall of Famer? I’ll wait for your responses later!

What do you guys think we do in RD 2? Move up? Move back? What position do we target in RD 2? Then what do you think we do in RD 3? Let me know, I want to hear . . .

Ah, shit. I keep forgetting that my guy CB Hez Masses is still out there for the taking!

    GET HIM, PHINS!!!

  2. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I think, but don’t quote me, I think we might be done at drafting LB, LB/S hybrid, and Safety. Don’t hold me to it though.

  3. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Masses, Bentley, Curry, Nowakowski, and Taylon Green are still available. I drafted all of them in my final and official (without a simulator) mock draft.

  4. rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

So we grabbed a couple of Texas players today and a couple of Texas Tech players yesterday. I guess Sully likes his Texas players LOL

  5. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Do you take Payton or Green here (they did say they were going to draft a QB this year) or do you take the best OL

or pick whatever fucking unknown crazy donkey riding prize that is behind door number 3?

  6. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

A lot of the DBs that we’re drafting are going to compete with many of the guys we already have on the team for some hybrid roles. It’s all about matchups and football IQ. I’m trying to remember where I saw a breakdown of what Hafley did in Green Bay. We have a lot of DBs on the roster – currently 20, it’s going to be really competitive because nobody has earned anything yet.

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

The 6’9 TE Tanner Koziol is going to be a good target for Lawrence.

  8. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t think they are going to take Nowakowski,

I have mocked him to us more than any other player and that big ass TE they took plays FB too.

  9. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Nicholas Singleton to the Titans, Brian.

  10. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Rock, I take the better passer of the 2, so Payton.

  11. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

If I’m calling the next pick I’m taking Gulbin at 180

  12. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We currently have 12 OL on the roster. I guess we valued other positions after taking only one in 1st round so far.

  13. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Bills take Jason Kilgore. No sir, I don’t like it. He’s a good S.

  14. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Ill take Brian Parker at 177 and Gulbin at 180

  16. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Steelers

    damn them

  17. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I was mad the Steelers got RT Iheanachor, OG Gennings Dunker, and Hines Ward clone Germie Bernard. Now they get Nowakoski. Not to mention a secret weapon in Wetgen.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Right? They know how to draft. I honestly envy them. They are going to be able to run down ANYBODY’s throat… and they have TE Washington as well.

  18. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Just watch the Stealers* end up drafting Kaytron Allen, to boot.

  19. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    C Brewer
    LT Paul
    RT Jackson
OG Proctor, Savaiinaea, Salyer and others will compete for the guard spots. That’s where it’s at for now.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

and when two of those guys are slowed by leg injuries in the first three weeks? or more likely training camp / pre-season?

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s the case for every team. I’m looking at our roster as we draft and pointing out where we are at. Not saying good or bad but how it’s being constructed heading to 90.

Based on the numbers I could see us adding a C/G if there is one. Maybe IDL, TE, RB or another G/T. Maybe even a QB.

  20. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Parker and Gulbin are both on the board. They are both Centers who have had multiple snaps at gaurd after being converted from Tackle in college. 5 position guys.

  21. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Patriots drafted a Karen so I feel a little better. Karon is close enough.

  22. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Slot-only wideout who could use a defined role and continuity after playing for four different schools in four years. Coleman has the speed to create opportunities on slot fades and skinny posts downfield. His route running has room for improvement, but it’s average for a draftable prospect. While he lacks ideal size, he has adequate hands and toughness in traffic. His ability to handle utility plays and return punts will add a dimension to his game, provided he becomes a more well-rounded target from the slot.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

  58. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

  62. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

Well, I hope this is a case of you guys thinking you’re better than you are (like all talking heads do) and you love the smell of your own farts.

I admittedly have no clue, so I can only go by what I hear and see ya’ll saying and hope the results prove you all wrong. Time will tell. I did want to build from the inside out, and I sure didn’t see that in this draft.

  63. CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

I know some of you put a lot of work into evaluating this stuff, so I don’t blame you for having strong opinions

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

It’s not about that, whatsoever. The picks just don’t make ANY kind of sense. We’re CLEARLY not going BPA, we’re trying to rebuild one of the strongest LB rooms in the NFL, we aren’t building from the inside-out, and Sully seems to be taking the “I’m smarter than anybody else” approach of drafting obscure players when absolute STUDS were on the board.

      It’s batshit crazy, my dude.

I WILL agree: we have to wait and see what happens. But on its face, it doesn’t look very good… and I’m putting that very lightly.

We didn’t need to draft 3 LBs! We didn’t need to draft more slot WRs! We didn’t need to address TE THAT early on a guy who is 1-dimensional, etc.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

They don’t make any sense to you, so you pan them because you think you know better (you being all you guys).

You put in a some work so you feel it gives you the place to trash it. But maybe they are smarter than you in this regard and they know something you don’t and/or you’re wrong.

I’m not all sunshine here, lol, but they don’t have a track record yet so until I see results I’ll wait and see.

      • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

And like I said, I don’t get it either. 5 picks on WRs and TEs? wtf? But I’m holding out hope, not ready to burn it all down yet, lmao

  64. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

MikeE, you haven’t missed a damn thing. We drafted 2 more ILB’s, added a 3rd WR to this draft class we didn’t need and a second TE we didn’t need who would have went undrafted. We did get a good cover safety though.

  65. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Kaytron Allen to the Redskins, Brian.

  66. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Jack Kelly to the Giants

  67. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m not going to catch the lat couple of picks bc I have a friends birthday dinner to attend to

but I’m leaving thinking we didn’t do a great job of addressing OL and don’t expect much of a pass rush next year

we will see if that happens

For me Kyle Louis is a really interesting pick if he plays some other role other than traditional off ball LB. I settled into the idea that he wouldn’t really fit our team so I wasn’t considering him, but he’s a playmaking type of defensive player.

if Rodriguez can play close to the level he did last year at Texas tech, we have. Foundational piece of our defense

and I have no questions about Cris Johnson at all – so maybe that trio can be strong pieces on defense. And maybe Taffe is a solid player I just don’t know a lot about

the thing that’s interesting are the two TEs and 3 WRs. If those guys are getting a lot of playing time by November – I think we look back at this draft more positively.

Everyone we draft has a shot to make an impact as rookies. We are uniquely situated in 2026 to give our rookies a shot to make an impression. So it’s possible that all those weapons we picked up in day 2 and 3 are the names we are hearing every Sunday

they obviously wanted to make sure Malik Willis had weapons now

  68. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Watching NFLN and Charles Davis just praised Sully for the way he’s rebuilding the Dolphins. You think he’s a shill?

  69. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Catching up, Brian Parker to the Bengals.

  70. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

It’s like they overload and grab a bunch at a specific position like throwing a bunch of shit at the wall to see what sticks.

  71. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m getting tired of seeing this “Round Up” commercial, with that cocky asshole who has a very punchable face. We don’t play like that up here in PA.

  72. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We select… DJ Campbell, G, Texas.

  73. rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

    OL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  74. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – My opinion is I really don’t know. I see that we took a bunch of guys who weren’t highly regarded, or at the very least, weren’t rated where we took them. I think I explained already what I believe they are trying to accomplish. They want to have a bunch of “team first” guys that are selfless will play hard for their teammates and coaches. They’re totally trying to change the culture here, which as you know was fucking poisonous with the fuckers we had here previously. Soft, guys who disappear when needed most. Vacuum that infected pus out of here, which was already done. Now fill the roster with guys that are thankful to be here and want to play for the Miami Dolphins and will run through a wall for Hafley. Will these guys be the best? Probably not, but I swear on a stack of bibles, I’d rather have Caleb Douglas than Makai Lemon. Did you see that kid? WTF! He’s what I despise about some players. We weren’t going to build the roster in one draft, but I do think they may have changed the culture in one. You have to start somewhere, and my guess is they found the type of player that will be happy to be here and get to work.

    Your thoughts on this?

    ———-
Yeah, seemed like the type who will be asking for a new contract in 2 years.

Again, it’s not about the players, it’s the where we took them and then even overloading at 2 positions and neglecting others.
    —————–
Now fill the roster with guys that are thankful to be here and want to play for the Miami Dolphins and will run through a wall for Hafley.
    ——————–
100%, but lets do it at multiple positions. Not overload positions where you will have to cut players you just drafted because you can only keep so many.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

For instance, we signed 2 free agent WR’s to 100% fully guaranteed contracts. You don’t want to cut them and have anymore dead cap. You just drafted 3 more WR’s. You shouldn’t want to cut them. That makes 5 WR’s on the roster. How many do you keep that were already on the roster?

      It makes no sense.

  86. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    BBM,

Follow me on this, Bro… as it has nothing to do with you…

I said it after day 1 of the Draft: Proctor seems to be the future replacement for Austin Jackson, so we may as well get his feet wet as far as ‘muscle memory’ started on the right side of the line. Until then, he’s a prototypical road-grading RG. It only makes sense to begin him on the right side.

Now… we took a natty right-side, road-grating cat in Big Jonah last draft and foolishly put him on the left-side last season: we saw the results. And today, we took another natty right-sider in RG DJ Campbell.

I’m just not seeing the vision from Sully and company, and I hope ya agree. I guess we’d better hope Big Jonah can man our LG position well this season… can’t BELIEVE we didn’t draft a LG!

    Know what I’m sayin’?!!

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I was thinking about that. Maybe you put Proctor in at LG and Campbell can win the RG spot. Then if Jackson can’t stay healthy you got Salyer, Charlie Heck or Carter Warren who could step up to play RT.

I’m not happy with how the draft played out but when the draft is over ya move forward with the guys ya got and hope for the best. We drafted some interesting players. I’m more curious now to see what sort of guys they target in UDFA.

TE is another headscratcher taking 2

the 2nd one is more of a complete TE, if that matters

I can see the vision for a few of our draftees, but when you have 11/13s of them that you have to explain for thats a problem

after the draft I usually check the tape on all of them, not sure I care after this draft, tomorrow may be different and Ryder helps, he’ll have a video for each
