Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan completes first full reno of Dolphins Roster

If you will allow me some leeway here, I want to try and change your perspective. Not only was this GM Jon Eric-Sullivan’s first NFL Draft experience, but it’s very important to remember that he was drafting to try and replace nearly half the roster. Chris Grier, our former GM left this team in an awful state. The most obvious issue to anyone from the outside was the cap situation, we came into the season over the cap. Before undertaking his, or really their, because Sully and Haf are really the synergistic duo who are in charge of the team. Together, they just purged the roster of a bunch of high price salaried players that let’s face it, didn’t have what it takes to get it done here. QB Tua Tagovailoa, WR Jaylen Waddle, EDGE Bradley Chubb, WR Tyreek Hill, OL Liam Eichenberg, OL James Daniels, WR Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, FB Alec Ingold, and K Jason Sanders. If you loved any of these players, forgive me, but they were part of the problem here. They’re part of the reason this team has been considered “soft”, and why this team could never really contend during the Grier/McDaniel. All the shiny stars in the world weren’t going to win here in Miami with the weak type of mindset of Grier/McDaniel, routinely rewarding players with salary bumps and contract extensions during a period where we made the playoffs twice and were out and out embarrassed looking like we didn’t belong on the field with the other team. Those days are OVER!!!!

We all need to realize the tremendous undertaking it was for Sully and Haf, knowing this team in tremendously disadvantageous cap situation. There will be no big spending to help fill the roster and better the roster once Free Agency begins and teams start cutting veteran players. I’m not saying we won’t make any moves, but we simply don’t have any space to make big purchase. Sullivan realized he had to fill the roster through the draft and UDFA’s, and we made 13 selections in the 2026 NFL Draft. Some of you hated at least half of them, and maybe national talking heads did too, but none of that matters. I explained yesterday that Sully and Haf may have changed the entire culture here in just one draft. The guys selected are “their guys”, and it was quite clear to me that Sully and Haf wanted physical players that want to get at it. These guys will run through a wall for HC Jeff Hafley and for their teammates. Do you not see the contrast to what we had here before? “Me” guys, not team players. There will be no “You get to pick the music for today’s practice Jaylen because you had a very good practice today!” I could vomit just thinking of that. Good practices will now be expected from every player and will be rewarded by playing better in the games and remaining on the roster.

Despite taking players that weren’t high on many boards, throughout the draft we Sully took physical players, because he wants this team to be a bigger, more physically imposing team. Our new OL Kadyn Proctor sure enough is big at 6’7 352. CB Chris Johnson isn’t really big, but he’s a “dog” and big enough at 6’0 193. LB Jacob Rodriguez who’s selection was blessed by none other than former Texas Tech LB and Hall of Fame LB Zach Thomas tells you all you need to know. This guy forced the most fumbles in the history of college football with 12, and had 7 FF’s last season. The WR’s we picked are also “dogs”, physical guys that are either difficult to bring down after the catch and aggressive making contested catches. The TE we drafted Will Kacmarek is hands down the best blocking TE in the draft. One guy who probably can’t wait to see these guys is RB De’Von Achane because Proctor and Kacmarek mean more yards for him! We drafted LB Kyle Louis who will be a chess piece. Undersized as a LB, Louis has very good cover skills and excellent athleticism and will be used like a LB/S hybrid.

We took our first EDGE rusher in RD 4 taking yet another player from Texas, Trey Moore. Not sure how much he can help this season, but the draft is never only about one season. That’s even more clear with the selection of WR Chris Bell in RD 3, who is coming off a late 2025 ACL tear. He will probably start the season on IR, and who knows, may finish on it too, but when healthy, Bell was a potential 1st RD pick.Bell is a big, thick WR at 6’2 222. He’s a tough receiver thats willing to fight for the ball and extra yards as well after the catch. IN RD 5 the Dolphins took, whaddaya know, another Texas player in S Michael Taffe. An undersized S with solid ball skills with 7 INT’s in his 5 year career and apparently he is QB Quinn Ewers best friend. We took a TE, a receiving TE in RD 5 Seydou Traore who is an international player, but a developing player at the TE position. We finally took another OL in RD 6, OG DJ Campbell from none other than Texas. We finished off the draft with another EDGE rusher Max Llewellyn. Here’s our entire draft haul . . .

RD 1 #12 OT Kadyn Proctor 6’7 352 – Alabama

RD 1 #27 CB Chris Johnson 6’0 193 – San Diego State

RD 2 #43 LB Jacob Rodriguez 6’1 238 – Texas Tech

RD 3 #75 WR Caleb Douglas 6’3 206 – Texas Tech

RD 3 #87 TE Will Kacmarek 6’5 261 – Ohio State

RD 3 #94 WR Chris Bell 6’2 222 – Louisville

RD 4 #130 EDGE Trey Moore 6’2 243 – Texas

RD 4 #138 LB Kyle Louis 6’0 220 – Pittsburgh

RD 5 #158 S Michael Taaffe 6’0 190 – Texas

RD 5 #177 WR Kevin Coleman 5’10 179 – Missouri

RD 5 #180 TE Seydou Traore 6’3 233 – Mississippi State

RD 6 #200 DJ Campbell 6’3 313 – Texas

RD 7 #238 EDGE Max Llewellyn 6’6 258 – Iowa

So, 13 players in all, quite a haul. Once again my friends, culture change, and lord knows we need that so badly here. I think it’s the thing I hated most about this team was their inability to ever step up in a crunch moment. There are always exceptions on a big 53 man roster, and believe you me, ILB Jordyn Brooks, who is a “DOG”, will love playing next to Jacob Rodriguez, also a “dog” and fellow Red Raider. How many times did we hear from former Dolphins player how soft our team was? How many times did we witness how soft this team was, and that was partially HC Mike McDaniel, and certainly the players like Tua who never met a big moment he didn’t melt in, Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle. None of those guys showed up big in big moments when it was needed.

I’m so looking forward to “seeing” the culture change, not hearing about. I can’t wait to see these guys in action. I’m not expecting to compete for a divisional crown this year but I expect this team to win at least half a dozen games or more this season. To me, that would be impressive after the extensive purge we went through. I want to observe a more physical team, we’ll know it when see it, and I think we’;re going to see it a lot. We’re going to see what big collection of “dogs” can do and how infectious it is to the entire team. Can’t wait to see it!

    MikeE,

Settle down now. I was just curious what BBM’s thoughts were. A rumble didn’t start outta nowhere, and nobody killed anybody with a trident! Anybody get the reference? Another movie I enjoy.

  2. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I keep reading all these articles and fan posts about how our cap is going to be much better after June 1st. Every single one references Bradley Chubb but do not mention Tua.
Wasn’t Tua a post June 1 cut also? We could not afford to suck up the 99M all at once right?

Are we not going to achieve any caps savings for Tua this year?

Never mind. I just looked it up. We get back about 10-11M for Tua and about 20M for Chubb.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m now dumber, if possible🤣, for having read part of that article, stopped at some national consensus big board

  3. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I must admit that having 680 lbs left of center is going to open some pretty big lanes for our running backs. Now bring that nasty 260lb TE in motion from the right side to blow up whoever thinks they are going to stop the 680 lb road graders and I see a lot of runs to the left this season

  4. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

We’ll see what the plan is at RT if Jackson goes down. They may go with Heck and keep Proctor at LG. It depends on what they think is the best 5.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

we also have a 6th round pick in addition to Jonah and Salyer

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I would probably move Proctor out to RT and let when of the other OGs man the LG spot

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Crabbs talked about this scenario today, he said, short term Salyer and long term Jackson injury Proctor was his guess

I agree, don’t mess up the continuity for a couple of games, but long term you need to move the more talented at a premium position

  5. Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Has anyone been following the Vrabel/Russini story? Apparently she named her first son Mike and now people are speculating it may be his. Wild shit

  6. sb7mvp's avatar sb7mvp says:

Obviously as fans we don’t have the insight that coaches and staff have when it comes to these players, but most of the time the tape doesn’t lie. You can see nasty and sheer will on tape. You can see work ethic and hustle. You can see who has talent that wastes it and you can see guys who are weak minded. Can people change? Yes, but it’s less likely than if they are already that guy and just need to hone their skill set as they become a professional.

My biggest problem with the Proctor pick, other than what I’ve mentioned before is drafting a 20 year old that we have to coach up again with our first overall pick this year. There were several ready to go options at this point. Downs, Bain, Ioane, and several others.

When I look at Caleb Douglas I don’t see a tough player. He goes down pretty much with the first contact. His YAC is in the middle of the pack and only if he’s able to beat someone down field. He’s got speed and size for sure. I know he’s a long strider, but there are times he looks like he’s running in quicksand. It’s also a pick where Gennings Dunker and Pregnon were on the board.

There’s a lot of concerns for these two picks compared to the other guys we grabbed. I don’t sweat guys taken in round four and after. Those are when you’re trying to grab guys with upside. I feel like your first three rounds should be finding greatness or solid career starters. We definitely could have done more to address the o-line and have it set for the next 5 years IMO.

I hope both of these players do well. That should go without saying. They are worrisome picks though. There’s no need to pretend otherwise.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

there’s certain some concern with both

I looked at Proctor highlights and analysis and decided it would be best to pass, less risky picks was where I thought we were going and agreed

Douglas other than size and speed and some bad qualities I don’t get it

Proctor has lots of qualities/intangibles they must’ve thought were too great to pass on, we did get Keven Colemen and the second TE who some are very high on, that needs to be accounted for as well

  7. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m truly confounded as to why we’d start Proctor on the left-side of the O-Line, when his future seems to be on the right-side of the O-Line.

At least that answers my question regarding who will man the LG spot with our multitude of right-side experience.

I presume we’re going to move Big Jonah back to the right-side… was that explicitly stated, though? I dunno… anybody?

  8. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    @dallascowboys

WR George Pickens signed the franchise tender.

  9. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the Waddle trade rewards, if duplicated every year would give us potentially the most talent in the league forever, that’s how I know it was a good trade

Just think, instead of signing Tua to that ridiculous contract we had traded him for similar Waddle comp, and did the same with Tyreek the same year, and with Chubb, the cupboards would be full now with plenty of cap space

  10. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Steve it’s a nice dream, but reality of the bad contracts and restructures they gave tied their hands in most of those cases with our cap, Fuck we broke the record this season with what 190M in dead cap? Earlier in those careers we would have had to eat more.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

its not a dream, Cheats did it for years, instead of giving each of them more money you trade them

you know you’re not re-signing Wilkins, trade him after 4 years, the new team gets his 5th yr and friendly cap the first year of a new contract

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Yes, that’s the key you pointed out. BEFORE giving them more money while they still have 3 years on their current contract they would let that salary problem be some other teams.

  11. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

we ave 14 corners on the roster right now. Some of these guys are gone before the next OTA. to get to 90

  12. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Anybody else find it somewhat interesting that it was Green Bay who took DDS?

  13. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    https://ras.football/ras-information/?PlayerID=29916&ovl=Combine

At 6’3″ and 206 pounds, shouldn’t there have been a flag raised with a mere 31.5″ VJ? I mean… that’s HORRIFICALLY BAD for a WR.

Think about it… at 352 pounds, Kadyn Proctor had VJ of 32.5″.

Again, I’m NOT crapping on Caleb Douglas as a player or person, and I’m rooting for him… but really? Not sure what Sully was thinking here.

  14. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Proctor is staying at LG the whole time he is here. Dolphins are going to draft an OT to plug at RT next year.

First 3 picks next year will be WR Jeremiah Smith, QB then RT.

    Write it down. lol

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I like him, he’s quick as hell, those little steps he takes are hard to keep up with, and he’s tough, doesn’t puss away from contact in the middle of the field

  15. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Damn, one of my guys for next draft!

Brendan Sorsby at crossroads: NCAA gambling probe could end Texas Tech QB’s college career

He’s entering rehab for his gambling addiction.

Could he enter the supplemental draft if he loses his college eligibility?

  16. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

my last comment went to cyberspace

  17. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Anyway, one of my QB’s to watch for next draft is caught up in a gambling probe.

Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby is entering rehab for his gambling addiction and could lose his college eligibility.

Could he enter this years supplemental draft if he loses eligibility?

He may not be a high character guy. lol

  18. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Don’t sleep on Uche, he had double digit sacks 1 yr at NE, he’s been depth charted the last couple of years, kinda like Chop last yr

his tape shows deliberate and urgent play

  19. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

FWIW we beat Denver on Madden ’26 with Malik at QB😜

against Jags we scored a TD on our 1st drive

looks like they think Malik can move the ball pretty easily

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Is the new madden even out? Or was this last year’s madden that you traded player to try and make our roster?

  20. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The Mets are the worst team in MLB, Thanks for fucking up the summer!

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

It’s still early and they have only fucked up your spring so far. LOL

Plenty of time to turn it around. In the end I expect them to be battling it out with the Braves.

Same with Reds and Cubs. I expect them to flip flop with the Brewers and Cards by seasons end. That’s how it always goes for me.

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

BBMike – I don’t see it. To me, this is the closest the Mets have come to the Chris Grier Dolphins. This is some cobbled together shit roster with no plan. David Stearns talked about run prevention and scoring runs and doesn’t even try to keep the 1B Alonso, then goes ahead and gives Jorge Polanco a big contract to play 1B where he played all of 1/3 of an inning there. They sign SS Bo Bichette and put him at 3B, where he’s never played before. They signed Luis Robert who only played 140 or more games once in his 5 year career and is often hurt, and now he’s going on the IL with back issues, while Polanco is on the IL with achilles issues. It really is mirroring the awful roster construction of Chris Grier. The pitching has been solid, but the offense, and defense have been atrocious. This team isn’t going anywhere, and won’t compete this season. Hopefully they fire Stearns and Mendoza

  22. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Somebody still has to explain to me how having a run pass option QB with Achane is somehow a good thing. Achane is not a dance behind the line kind of runner. He needs to hit the LOS of scrimmage fast and hard and get to the second level as quickly as possible. Explain to me how hesitating behind the LOS waiting for the QB to hold it or hand it off is a good thing. It makes zero sense.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

that’s what PS/camp is for, they’ll see, if it works

might just use it as a change up

its a good thing in that it speeds up the decision making for the defender guarding the edge, but I agree he’s not that type of back

looking at Achane’s highlights I don’t see any plays using him in a run pass option, mostly quick pitches, everything is quick hitting

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s not hesitating, it’s whether you give the ball to Achane or pull it back. Nobody was worried about Tua running so now they know it’s pass. Not with Malik because he’s a major threat to run as well. It’s a 3-pronged attack. It makes the defense hesitate more.

  23. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I like what I’m seeing with Traore, pass catching TE, he looks the part

we went from having just Dulcich and an UDFA with no experience to having 4 with some upside

  24. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Meh, still would have went undrafted and better players were available.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I have to say this, when you say it I don’t get bothered because I know you spend the time and know your stuff. On the other hand, the reality is, they just want to get their guys, and I have no problem with any of that, especially when they didn’t waste picks trading up do it.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Must not be that many highlights because he showed the same play like 10 times.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ryder isn’t allowed to show any more plays than he does, every video from him is done the same way with about 7 plays he evaluates and shows over and over

  25. boulderfinfan's avatar boulderfinfan says:

Prisco gave our draft an A. he thinks Caleb Douglas will be the steal of our draft. I guess we’ll see.

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/prisco-nfl-draft-grades-2026-best-worst-picks/

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

      That would be fantastic!

Also, Although I tuned out much of this past season because we sucked, and I tuned out the rest of the NFL even more than I tuned out the Dolphins I am SHOCKED that I didn’t at least hear about Patrick Mahomes blowing his ACL. I would have thought that would have at least filtered down into my little pea brain.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      what constitutes a good grade?

if you only had 3 picks and of those 3 you got 3 starters?

is it the total talent or what you did with each pick?

  26. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

MikeE, not saying he isn’t a decent prospect. Looks like potential is there. I have grown to like our draft and give it a B-. lol

Also, about Traore being an international player. He will not count against the 90 man roster. We will be able to keep 91 players on the roster through training camp. Also, if he doesn’t make the 53 but is signed to the PS he can not be poached his first season as an international player on the practice squad.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Also, I put 1 too many also’s in that last paragraph. lol

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

No you didn’t BBM. You just didn’t follow up the Also with more info like.

Also, if he goes to the practice sqaud, he doesn’t take up a spot there either. We gain an additional practice squad spot.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

perfect thanks, knew of the extra PS spot didn’t know if he could be poached

his spot is now guaranteed, he’s on the PS, would be retarded to do anything else to start the season or should I say I can’t think of anything else we can do that makes more sense

we basically have a free roster spot

  27. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Looks like every pick we made was a steal. We should be awesome! 👍

  28. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Rock,

Until yesterday I had no idea that Vrabel fathered that Russini gal’s love child. I barely follow the NFL anymore. The games are hard enough to stick with after how they’ve messed with the rules but the rest of the stuff is like Housewives of something or other.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Randy, has that been confirmed or just rumored? I know the rumor is that they were running around together on their perspective spouses “back in the day” and for a while, and that she named her son Mike, but has it actually been confirmed that he is the father?

  29. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    From Prisco’s article above

    Miami Dolphins: A

Best Pick: Second-round linebacker Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech will prove to be a big-time player on their defense. He has the ball instincts you love for the position.

Worst Pick: Third-round tight end Will Kacmarek is a good blocker, not a great one, but is limited in terms of his receiving skills.

The Skinny: Jon-Eric Sullivan had a heck of a draft. I loved the pick of tackle/guard Kadyn Proctor in the first round. They then loaded up on a bunch of good players with their remaining picks. Receiver Caleb Douglas will prove to be a steal.

The ONLY way Caleb Douglas proves to be a “steal” is if he becomes a top 10 WR this season. They over-reached two rounds to pick him. You don’t go from a MEGA reach to a steal by catching 800 yards and 6 TD’s

  30. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Rock,

Oh, my bad, I just saw the stuff posted here and assumed that’s what was going on. I know nothing about it. I could care less who has whose baby. Unless that baby is gonna be the Miami Dolphins franchise QB some day. Lol

  31. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

RPO plays are slower developing plays. That’s just how it works. It requires that the RB not just shoot out of the gate. He needs to go at a speed where the “fake” handoff can be believable. They’re just slower plays. Plus, it requires the RB to be close to the QB…essentially inside the pocket. Not where you want Achane, usually. Already slowing himself down and being more contained within the pocket.

  32. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

do we really have a safety problem?

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Randy, okay once again you tell me I don’t really get it. Who’s quicker than Achane? We’re not trying to get Derrick Henry going here. Sully said Kacmarek is going to be a huge factor in our running game but you already told me that’s not really a big factor.

I’m wondering if we might Play Zach Seiler at edge or maybe move him all around. The line

it’s not clear to me whether we will be a 4-3 or not but I think at a minimum they will be playing some 4-3

I’m thinking at starting DL of

    Robinson – Grant – Phillips – Seiler

with Uche and Moore getting a lot of snaps and Seiler moving inside occasionally – and rotating in with Biggers as well

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Edge is going to be fun to watch. Not sure how interior DL will be position wise under Hafley but we have talent and depth. I think we’re going to be good on defense. Offense needs more chemistry and timing with young players. I hope the defense carries us until the offense clicks.

  38. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    @jjones9

The Dolphins have parted ways with senior personnel executive Champ Kelly, sources say. Kelly served as Miami’s interim GM this past season after Chris Grier’s firing. Kelly has two decades of NFL experience with Miami, Las Vegas, Chicago and Denver.

  39. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

M – I thought Kelly was long gone too. What purpose could he have been serving with Sully here?

  40. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’m STILL trying to wrap my head around moving Proctor from the right-side to LG, and deciding that Big Jonah should return to RG.

If Grier/McD made a mistake in Big Jonah’s progress by moving him from the right-side to the left, then they’re likely repeating the same mistake by moving Proctor to the left-side when he’s likely the heir apparent to Austin Jackson at RT.

Shouldn’t Proctor start to program his muscle-memory for his future on the right-side, as his current muscle-memory is on the left-side?

    Make it make sense!

I don’t really care (I think?), so long as it works out in the long run, of course.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

      MY BAD (correction)…

Why KEEP Proctor on the left-side when his future is on the right-side?

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

And IF Proctor’s future is our LG @ R1P12, WTF is it going to cost us to get Austin Jackson’s replacement? R1P1?

We could have gotten a natty LG in either Vega or PREGNON, who are more pro-ready at the position.

I realize I’m echoing some points Randy has already made: I agree with him.

  41. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

Achane…and pretty much any quick/fast player is best in space. I actually really like Achane hitting quick trap plays inside. If it’s blocked right, he can be off to the races. But, he’s best used in space…and not going thru the mechanics of a RPO play. That would be better suited for a counter play because they are a little slower, but I still want Achane in space as much as possible.

I understand that a TE has a role in the running game…especially an outside zone scheme. My point was your running game should not and does not rely on a good blocking TE. Of course it’s nice to have one! You could also just put another OT out there. The core of your running game goes from the center out.

And, again, I actually like Kacmarek. I almost brought him and another couple guys up about a week before the draft to see what people thought of them. I just thought there needed to be more attention put on the IOL. It wasn’t about the TE and the running game.

    Tim,

Shit, forgot. I am not a big fan of Max Llewelyn’s game. Great spin move and not a whole lot else. But, I will expect an Iowa product…and he’s from there too….to rise above their limitations and shock people. So, he was the Steal Of the draft! 👍

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      he’s got a motor

noticed a couple of our new rookies had good spin moves too

watching Achane highlights I noticed a Redskin doing an almost slow motion spin move, that was pathetic

in that same video another player did the same ineffective spin move, so I appreciate the ones our rookies did

I do think Llewelyn presents some upside in a Wide 9 scheme, if that’s what we’re running.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

From what I’ve heard Hafley and others talk about his system is 4 man rush, situational blitzes and a Cover 3, zone/man mix. It all depends on talent.

  45. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

turned on ESPN to see which games were on and it showed Knicks 72 Atlanta 22, had to turn it on to see if that score was correct

never seen an NBA score like that, NCAAW maybe

  46. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    Sully vs Grier

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Sully didn’t get the best value for many of his picks, Grier would laugh at the value

we saw how getting value worked with Grier

question is, is it better to get your guys a little early or great value for players you may not exactly want, and when the players you did want got snatched up before you picked you just take value

Sully had the luxury of 13 picks, so he could afford to take his guys early

  47. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

is going from LG to RT a bigger transition than going from RG to RT?

does it hurt Proctors ability to develop as a RT?

maybe one of you OL gurus can help me with this

it seems like the bigger deal is guard to tackle not right to left side? Is that correct?

  48. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

it would be great if Llewellyn and Moore can provide some pass rusher

unfortunately i think ignoring edge early was probably the worst part of the draft

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      at what expense?

there’s also the Malik affect, we need to know as soon as possible, if he’s IT

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

we don’t even know what Hafley has in mind on the DL, above it was mentioned we could start Sieler, Grant, Phillips, and Chop

ESPN depth chart shows Uche in Grant out, another depth chart showed Ojabo instead of Uche

plenty of decent starting options, I don’t see the huge need

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Hafley said, we won’t be locked into 4-3 or 3-4, different fronts will be used to match the situation

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I’m the one that mentioned that DL front….lol

        I hear you

I was just a little taken back when we didn’t pick edge early

  49. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

on the OL the player plays all O snaps, at DE many different looks will be used

how many snaps would a 1st round DE play a game 30?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

also Chris Johnson will be playing almost every D snap

I think they got the priorities right

if we drafted Bain, people would bitch we didn’t draft OL early enough, and we saw the OL rush in the first, sure we could’ve gotten Pregnon later, but then we’re looking for an RT next yr maybe a QB too

  50. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think it’s funny when people think playing this side or that side is like an entire different evolution. This is not complicated stuff. The job is to beat the opponent in front of you. I think we finally have a 5 that is going to be tough to deal with throughout the season. Very big and athletic. Our Center is undersized but he’s an elite athlete and football player.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Really didn’t want to fall back into the trap of buying in

starting to get closer to it

last year, because we had a youth movement, I thought it would take a while to get going, didn’t think it would be that bad

this year will be more of the same, lots of dependency on rookies and young players

to make the plffs we’ll need to start somewhat fast, and get very good QB play

what I’m most excited about is the state of the franchise, HC, GM and tough guy image

no pressure this year to win, just improve as the season goes on, morale victories will be good

we’ve seen other teams have bigger improvements, because of QB play

  51. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Our defense is flying under the radar until it doesn’t. They’re going to set the tone.

I feel like offense takes a little time to build chemistry. That’s why running the football will be a priority. The skill will eventually explode.

  52. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I’ve never believed it matters much which side you play. Sure, some guys may struggle with it, but most guys can do it with a few reps. We see guys flip sides all the time.

The hardest part about flipping sides is the keys you read off the guys next to you. You do get used to how the guys on either side of you do things. It’s why I still think the best OLs are ones that can play the same 5 guys as much as possible. I get the need for versatility but I don’t need it in every OL I play.

It’s much, much harder to switch from one position to another than from side to side.

  53. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

Oh, I thought guys were saying we will be running more Wide 9 stuff now. My bad.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I think the system is based on players just like Jimmy Johnson did. Wide 9 to me gets convoluted. It’s basically a 4-3 box.

It looks like our nickel defense will be 4-2-5. Sully and Hafley have said they don’t want to be too light. Football is a big man’s game.
Brooks and Rodriquez inside is going to be awesome. No disrespect to Dodson but you’re quality depth now. I really feel Kyle Louis is going to be a major player on defense at SS/Nickel LB.

  54. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

The potential on the OL is very high. Coaching will be huge because of some really big and talented players being very young. I’m optimistic 🤞

  55. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s very possible that Proctor, Johnson, Rodriquez, Kacmarek and Louis starts. In time Bell will and I think Taaffe will be our FS at some point.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

starting on this D won’t matter much for several rookies, think the sub packages will be where they mostly play, while they get up to speed

someone like Taaffe starting outside a lot of undue pressure on him, good chance either he or Louis starts at safety, not sure what some of those 1 yr safeties bring

between Louis, Taaffe and Moore, they should all see the amount of playing time they can handle

its like a caged dog sitting on the bench waiting their turn, then once unkeashed…all 3 will be on STs, which will allow them to dress weekly

Johnson will have more pressure on him

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I don’t see Taaffe beating out any of the vet safeties and starting. At least in the first 10 games unless there is injury. His saving grace is that we seem to be short on the FS types. Louis will most probably be in there on certain packages but not start earlly, IMO.
