Where will 2026 Draftees be playing and will they start?

I like to check the depth chart on Ourlads.com to give myself an idea of what others think our depth chart might look like. By no means is this an “official” Depth Chart, it’s just some knowledgeable guesswork. The current Depth Chart on Ourlads which was updated as of 5/5/26 has the following starters at LB. They show a base 4-3 alignment but show only 2 LB’s, ILB Jordyn Brooks and WLB Tyrel Dodson and then DB Jason Marshall at Nickel Back. I like Tyrel Dodson, he’s been better than expected for sure, but his jersey may as well say Del Rio on the back, because he’s going to end up in a very similar situation that occurred 30 years ago. In 1996, Jimmy Johnson signed MLB Jack Del Rio to a 1 year contract. In the 1996 NFL Draft, Jimmy Johnson took LB Zach Thomas from Texas Tech in the 5th RD, Pick #154 overall. Zach Thomas came in here on fire and Jimmy Johnson fell in love, rightfully so. Jack Del Rio never played for the Dolphins, he was cut and the Zach Thomas era began. In the 2026 NFL Draft, Jon-Eric Sullivan selected LB Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech in RD 2, #43 overall. Two important details, Jack Del Rio was 33 YO in 1996, and Jacob Rodriguez isn’t Zach Thomas. Despite that, I’m telling you there is no way a healthy Jacob Rodriguez isn’t starting for the 2026 Miami Dolphins. That doesn’t mean Tyrel Dodson gets cut, but he might get traded. Rodriguez is the type of player that will bring some next level excitement to this team, and they will want him on the field ASAP!

Newly drafted 1st RD Pick (#27) CB Chris Johnson is listed as the starting LCB on Ourlads. I agree with that, the first round pick will be given every opportunity in the world to win that starting job and he should be able to take it. Opposite him is currently CB JuJu Brents at RCB, but that’s far less certain. Brents suffered a season ending foot injury in which he had surgery on following the Week 11 game against the Washington Commanders in Spain. He should be ready physically to play as long as there are no setbacks. The competition should be heavy at CB and former starter Storm Duck will probably want his starting position back. Storm Duck is also coming back from an injury, Duck injured his knee in Week 8 against Atlanta and had surgery on his knee following that game. He should also be ready by season’s start, but Duck had two injuries last year, an early ankle injury and then the season ending knee injury. I count 10 CB’s on the roster at the moment, and there’s always the possibility of picking up an inexpensive CB after roster cutdowns as well. Brents has good size and length at 6’3 198, and he has definitely flashed some signs that he could play.

EDGE and OLB should be interesting competition as well. Right now the competition at EDGE should be some of the heaviest because it’s really wide open. There’s third year player Chop Robinson who hasn’t shown any signs that he’s a starting DE or OLB. His play and playing time regressed and diminished last season compared to his rookie campaign. Although we didn’t invest a lot of draft capital into the EDGE position, we did draft LB/EDGE Trey Moore from Texas, kind of an undersized pass rusher in RD 4, #130 overall. We doubled down in RD 7 with EDGE rusher Max Llewellyn from Iowa, #238 overall. We also picked up a couple more EDGE rushers as UDFA’s in Mason Reiger from Wisconsin and EDGE rusher Rodney NcGraw from Western Michigan. In addition, in FA we signed Josh Uche from the Eagles and David Ojabo from the Ravens, and Robert Beal who we picked up from the Niners, as well as Dolphins who was drafted by us in 2023.

For the O-line, a constant source of Dolphins fan angst, Sully announced that the Dolphins will begin training camp with our first pick in the 2026 NFL Draft at #12, OT/OG Kadyn Proctor at LG next to LT Patrick Paul. That’s quite the sizable left side, with somewhere close to 700 lbs with Paul 330 and Proctor somewhere between 330 and 350. Last year’s 2nd RD pick, OG Jonah Savaiinaea will move to RG. It’s expected that RT will go to incumbent (when healthy) RT Austin jackson, but no doubt in my mind that Jackson is just keeping the spot warm for Kadyn Proctor if/when he either departs by end of contract or injury, whichever occurs first. Big Jonah better play well or he better watch 6th RD pick, #200 overall DJ Campbell from Texas (where else???) who will be closer than he appears in his side view mirror!

You guys were practically foaming from the mouth when we picked WR Caleb Douglas from Texas Tech (where else???) in RD 3, #75 overall. You just hated the pick but I think the kid is going to make an impact this season. He’s working hard, doing all the right things, and compared to the diminutive WR’s we’ve had here, this guy has the size and the attitude we want, he wants that damn ball and will fight to get it. At 6’3 1/2 205, he gives the QB a bigger target and will go and get the ball, and fights tough for yards after the catch as well. I don’t know if WR Chris Bell will see action early on, he may start the season on the PUP list or even IR, but our other 3rd RD WR draftee, #94 overall, will also eventually make an impact on this offense. My guess is that will come later than sooner, but that’s not especially important. I look forward to eventually seeing Douglas and Bell together, but we may have to be patient with that. We have veterans Jalen Tolbert from the Cowboys and Tutu Atwell from the Rams and of course Malik Washington as well. We also have Theo Wease who flashed a bit last season and we drafted a slot type WR Kevin Coleman in RD 5, #177 overall. Malik Washington and Coleman will no doubt be battling for the starting slot position, although Washington should be safe for return duties.

There will literally be competition at every position except for QB. Malik Willis will be starting, but I suppose Ewers may have to fight off Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski for the backup spot. I knw we drafted 13 guys, and be mindful that Sully and Haf took guys they really like, so those guys might just have a leg up on the guys that were already here, fair or unfair, that’s kind the way it is. They want to change the culture here, the team demeanor, and the best weay to do it is with a bunch of guys that buy into what you’re doing and just want to go out and be the best they can be for the coaches, the team, their teammates and themselves. I feel like in 2025, we had very little of that, with a few exceptions of course. I feel like we had a lot of “Me” players, and not nearly enough “We” players. That’s gonna change big time! That doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going to win more than we did last season, we lost a lot of talent, but I do think this team will be more fun to watch this season as they grow, and maybe towards the end of the season, if WR Chris Bell is fully healthy, we’ll see the offense make some big strides and give us a nice glimmer of what might be in 2027.

  2. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Rock, I think it is a possibility they make a bid for Sorsby. With a big QB class next year, I don’t see any team giving up more than a 2027 2nd round pick. Jets, Cardinals Browns all have leverage over us with the draft order. If all teams bid a second rounder, the Jets would get him with Cards next, Browns then Dolphins.

I would hate for the Jets to get him. That would free them up to get Jeremiah Smith in the 1st next year.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The odds are they are going to get a good one next year, if they don’t take Sorsby in the supplementary draft There may be 6-8 QB’s taken in the first 20 picks next draft.

  3. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Thanks MikeE!

I only see 2 from this class starting just as Ourlads has it. Unless, like you said, someone like Dodson gets traded. I know Rams, Panthers and 1 other team still have a need at ILB. I could see Atwell and Tolbert as a possibility for a trade as well depending on what they see from the newly drafted WR’s and back half of the roster in Wease, Tahj and Henning. I don’t see either of them getting cut though due to both getting 100% guaranteed contracts.

Oh, and I count 11 CB’s on the roster. Was 12 but we released Matre to make some roster space.

  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

But, historically has only won that battle for the ball 33% of the time. He is WEAK for his size.

BBMike – Proctor and Johnson must be your 2 definite starters, right? I can’t imagine there’s a world where Jacob Rodriguez isn’t on the field for this defense. I also think Douglas will be starting at WR and Kacmarek will be playing a shit ton at TE even with Dulcich here.

I said at least 6, top 6 picks, plus Louis, Taaffe, Coleman and Campbell could all start a game or two some point this year

Kacmarek/Rodriguez don’t really fall into the oh no a rookie is starting category, but everyone else after the top 2 would

4 at most should start week 1

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Yes, though, I am talking right now as how things appear. I think there will be a few players who could win starting jobs. The ones you mentioned, and I even think Campbell has a shot at winning the RG spot. His competition in Salyer and Jonah were 2 of the worse OG’s in the NFL last year.

    Caleb Douglas’ collegiate injury history…

Fractured Fibula (September 2023): While playing for the Florida Gators, Douglas suffered a significant lower-leg injury—later confirmed as a fractured fibula—during a game against Kentucky. The injury occurred after he landed awkwardly following a 34-yard reception. This ended his sophomore season after just five games.

Hyperextended Knee and Bone Bruise (March 2025): During spring practices at Texas Tech University, Douglas was seen on crutches after suffering a hyperextended knee and bone bruise during a team scrimmage. Coach Joey McGuire confirmed the injury was non-surgical and did not expect it to be a long-term setback.

Minor In-Game Injury (November 2025): Late in his senior season, Douglas briefly left a game against West Virginia with an unspecified injury right before halftime but was able to return to the field later in the game

I’m trying to figure out why he was only able to jump 31.5″ high (VJ). At 6’3″ and 206 pounds — and with explosive traits everywhere else — it makes no sense that he can’t jump any higher.

He should have been able to break at least 35″ in the VJ. Remember, Proctor VJ’d a 32.5″ at around 350 pounds.

  23. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I’m hesitant to talk about other guys’ asses….but here goes. If it’s a 3 point stance, you don’t want your hips being higher than your shoulders. Why? Because it probably means you’re off balance. 4 point stance is a little different because you may actually be dogging in to drive forward and down…making your ass being higher ok…kinda. It’s not how I’d coach it, but it can work.

In general, you always want to be in balance. That rarely entails having your ass higher than your shoulders. I don’t think people really know what pad level means, so I’ll just say that good balance leads to good pad level.

  24. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Some of us were wondering why people were saying we got bigger and tougher. Outside of Proctor. It didn’t look that way to me. Johnson isn’t big. 6’, 190? Is that a big guy?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

these guys will all fill out, but they’re done growing taller, lot of height at WR, CB the height they like, Kacmarek is huge

you can’t just add big guys, you do need to do it at the right positions, we had really short WRs, that alone is a big deal

  25. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

You don’t have to be huge to be physical. It’s an attitude, and the guys we drafted like to mix it up.

  26. son of a son of a shula's avatar son of a son of a shula says:

Of course our guys are small, probably stupid too. Every other team has huge guys that are brilliant

  27. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

They went 50/50 on going big, just not in some areas we thought they would. Proctor is huge, DJ Campbell while not huge he has good size. Even the UDFA OL they got are big in RT Cline and the Center from Iowa State is now the biggest Center on the roster. Went big on WR. It’s just at LB, Safety and Edge Trey Moore they went smaller. I hope some of them stay all summer in the weight room. Taaffe, I’m looking at you.

Big or smallish, I like our draft group.

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

I think a big EDGE setter will be a target next year, along with an OG, CB, and Safety. Obviously, a QB will probably be an early target too unless Willis really balls out.

  28. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Well, if Campbell has a high ass, I think it is evened out in a 3-point stance by having long arms, over 34″.

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

Yeah, his arm length and wingspan are really, really good. Outside of his height, which is average, everything else about his size and length is very, very good. He’s dependable, vocal, and definitely a people mover. I believe they will train him at center along with guard, but don’t quote me on that.  He’s a great pick in the 6th round, in my opinion.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

IOL at 6’3″ is a perfect height, leverage is key inside, any taller and leverage isn’t in your favor

Proctor has the strength to overcome his height, Campbell doesn’t

  29. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    ah the mythical play speed

40 times matter, not the end all

Kevin Coleman is a great example of slow 40 time and fast play speed, he accomplishes this by keeping defenders off balance, then accelerating off of his fakes/plants (my definition of play speed)

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

watched an Omar video this morning, he was with the Miami Herald’s Smalls

Smalls likes Coleman, thinks he’s going to be the top contributor this season for the drafted WRs, I agree, don’t see rookie growing pains for him

  30. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I wonder if Castellanos can make enough of an impact to steal a roster spot on the 90 (91) man roster as a slot WR. He’s not fast for a WR but the guy can run after the catch and is built thick. Was a good runner when playing QB at FSU. He was just too short to be playing QB.

  31. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

So Breece Hall is now the 3rd highest paid RB even though he ranked 10th out of the top 10 RB’s. Last year was the only season he broke 1000 yards rushing and did it just barely with 1065 yards rushing. He has never had more than 5 rushing TD’s in a season and last year had 4. In his 4 seasons he has fumbled 11 times losing 5.

Makes me think we will have to pay Achane 3yr, 50m.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yeah, that was an unfortunate contract for Hall. We’re in a bad spot

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

Breece Hall is not worth that. Yes, I know that’s what he got, but the Jest overpaid big time. When I think of the top backs in this league, he doesn’t cross my mind.

    @MLB

We mourn the passing of Hall of Famer Bobby Cox, the fourth-winningest manager in MLB history…

    ————-

RIP, Bobby. Many fond memories of the early 90s Atlanta Braves. And speaking of the Braves, owner Ted Turner passed away a few days ago. RIP, Ted Turner.

  33. jahndont's avatar jahndont says:

I don’t think it’s about whether Breece got overpaid, I think it’s about the market, and that market is going to get more expensive. Bijan Robinson, Jonathan Taylor, Jamyr Gibbs (yes he has his 5th year option exercised, but they’re still talking about extending him this offseason if possible), and Chase Brown all could see extensions.

Of them, only Chase Brown will likely fetch less than Breece just did. If Achane will sign for 3 years 48m today, I’d do that deal as fast as I could get the contract printed.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Great to see ya, old friend!

I agree, it’s about the market. Unfortunately, the market is going to dictate that Achane gets paid handsomely.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I find it… curious, as to how just a few years ago, the market for RBs was so low. Now suddenly, the market is back for RBs.

  34. jahndont's avatar jahndont says:

Greetings MF13! I agree with your statement on RBs.

I personally think in some cases the changes in the marketplace for certain positions is based on game evolution (IE, FB tanked bc the position evolved to H-Back mostly and that can be filled by other players like TEs and other RBs) and in other cases, like RB currently, markets are kind of cyclical. I think RB values bottomed out like 4-5 years ago, and this current batch of 24 year old RBs are proving that they might be worth paying a little more.

One evolutionary change that I think will be more permanent in RB pricing is contract length. Instead of lowballing good RBs I think teams will try to protect their downsides by limiting contract duration.

  35. jahndont's avatar jahndont says:

I don’t know what the consensus here is tbh, but I think Achane is one of those RBs you try to keep. And yeah, you’re gonna probably have to pay him in the price range BBM mentioned above. I am a little concerned that the longer we wait the more it’ll be, but I’m not a professional, so who knows, maybe they just tag him next year and go from there.

  36. jahndont's avatar jahndont says:

    @BBM

I see. If I were him I’d want to get to 50m and probably 35 guaranteed (Breece got 30) I’d offer him 16.5m/year w the 1st 2 years guaranteed. But not only do I not know what the FO is thinking or offering, I have no idea where Achane’s camp is on his value. If I was his agent I would tell him the longer this goes on the better position we’ll be in, but I don’t see it going to more then 18m/year or more than 36-38 Guaranteed.

  37. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the more I read, see and figure out, the more I see that percentage going up

3 rookies will most likely start week 1, Proctor, Johnson and Kacmarek, don’t really see a problem starting those 3 and having a lot of rookie mistakes hurt

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

the rest of the rookies will probably see as much action as they can handle

last season and 2019 we couldn’t stop anyone to start the season, if we don’t have that issue it could be a fun season, with no pressure

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Brooks is one of the best ILBs in the game and I think Rodriquez at the minimum shares snaps with Dodson. Gay Jr. is kind of a flex LB.

  43. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Coleman is a true returner, Washington not so much

    and

Coleman is a threat for sure. I think Washington is what he is, I don’t expect him to go to another level. He’s a solid player but not a core guy.

    ———-

Wow, let’s just kick Malik Washington to the curb for some unproven rookie.

First of all, Coleman is only 5’10, 179 pounds. It’s going to be hard for him hold up a whole season returning punts in the “NFL”. He averaged 8.1 yards a return over the last 3 seasons in “college”.

Malik is built more dense at 5’9, 191 pounds and can take the hits. Malik ranked 8th in the “NFL” last year with a 13 yard average per punt return for players with 20 or more returns.

Second, I don’t see that Coleman is a sure “threat”. He’s not a burner. Malik is actually slightly faster with a 4.47 to Coleman’s 4.49 combine 40. Also, Malik tested athletically better in every category; the 40, 10 yard split, vertical, etc. Especially in vertical at 42.5″ to Coleman’s 38.5″.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

and what do those numbers mean? Nothing, his play speed is what matters

I have no problem with Malik, think he’s overachieved so far, and his upgrade is ready to go🤣

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Sully directly brought in competition for M. Washington with Coleman. Him and Hafley have said we need competition everywhere. They are both slot return guys. Let the competition begin!

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Competition YES, but you guys are already handing Coleman the job.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

not handing him anything, just think he’s the better returner and receiver

Malik’s 6.5 yards per reception, with no focus on him should worry everyone, I’d be OK with Tahj making the 53 and leaving Malik off

Malik’s PR skill is about all he’s got, not worthy of a spot on 53, if you ask me

  44. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

My sleeper in our draft who makes the biggest impact is Kyle Louis as a nickel LB and SS. I think he was a Hafley pick.

  45. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Watching Edge Trey Moore, he’s really versatile. He lined up at ILB, OLB and Edge. You see him covering TE’s 30+ yards down the field. He’s another one who will be interesting to see how Hafley uses him.

  46. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Louis, Moore, Rodriguez, Johnson, Reager, and even Taaffe, seems like Sully has brought our D into the 21st century

Malik’s 6.5 yards per reception, with no focus on him should worry everyone, I’d be OK with Tahj making the 53 and leaving Malik off

Malik’s PR skill is about all he’s got, not worthy of a spot on 53, if you ask me

    ————-

Okay, cut Malik for an under 5’10 WR who weighs 174 pounds and has done nothing in his 2 years in the NFL but have a bad fumble. Got it!

Malik’s 6.5 yards per reception was not bad considering over 75% of his targets were behind the LOS. All MM practically did was have him run screen passes except when Waddle was out. That % goes up over 85% if you count passes within 4 yards of the LOS, fact.

If these young pups do bite, I could see Malik as a trade candidate since he is “not one of their guys”. If Malik is not traded, Tahj will be a cut.

where are you getting your data?

Don’t remember them throwing him an overwhelming amount of passes behind the LOS

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

You are correct sir, watching his highlights the first 4 passes were all -4 behind LOS, next at LOS, next -2, not watching further MM is an idiot, Malik looks better than I rembered

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Malik was grossly misused last year, he doesn’t break tackles, not fast enough, not shifty enough and yet MM treats him like he did with Jonnu the year before

Didn’t make it through the whole video, but I think it’s fair to say that Chris Johnson has the potential to play all over the Secondary… yes, even as a Safety at times, if Hafley so wishes.

DARE I say… Chris Johnson has the potential of a Jalen Ramsey. I said POTENTIAL, not saying he’s going to be the next Ramsey.

He’s absolutely my favorite pick of our ’26 Draft class.

      BALL HAWK!!!

taking OT, who can also play OG, then taking a do it all CB also in the first tells me Sully values premium positions in the first and versatility, just like GB does, true to form

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I really don’t know what he’s trying to say here, besides Johnson can play the slot

sure Ramsey played it at times, to have your #1 CB playing slot too often is a waste

I don’t like below average measurables, unless you can do something that stands out

that’s why I think Coleman eventually replaces Malik

Coleman is small and not exactly fast, his shiftyness and quickness are exceptional

Malik in a transition season can play an important role, until the rookies are ready, after that not sure what he provides that others can’t

    Phinsider proposed this question

Dolphins fans sound off on what QB Malik Willis will need to show this coming year to earn the starting role long term.

the answers were what you’d expect from that site, no one really answers the question properly

what I think he needs to do is continue to do what he did last year

he really didn’t get much of a chance to go win a game at the end, so he’ll also need to be able to win games, when he gets the ball and within a score and comeback ability

I don’t think we’re void of talent. It’s just different and a new approach. I’m looking forward to it.

Steve, I agree that Malik lacks the quick shiftiness that Coleman has.
