Where will 2026 Draftees be playing and will they start?

I like to check the depth chart on Ourlads.com to give myself an idea of what others think our depth chart might look like. By no means is this an “official” Depth Chart, it’s just some knowledgeable guesswork. The current Depth Chart on Ourlads which was updated as of 5/5/26 has the following starters at LB. They show a base 4-3 alignment but show only 2 LB’s, ILB Jordyn Brooks and WLB Tyrel Dodson and then DB Jason Marshall at Nickel Back. I like Tyrel Dodson, he’s been better than expected for sure, but his jersey may as well say Del Rio on the back, because he’s going to end up in a very similar situation that occurred 30 years ago. In 1996, Jimmy Johnson signed MLB Jack Del Rio to a 1 year contract. In the 1996 NFL Draft, Jimmy Johnson took LB Zach Thomas from Texas Tech in the 5th RD, Pick #154 overall. Zach Thomas came in here on fire and Jimmy Johnson fell in love, rightfully so. Jack Del Rio never played for the Dolphins, he was cut and the Zach Thomas era began. In the 2026 NFL Draft, Jon-Eric Sullivan selected LB Jacob Rodriguez from Texas Tech in RD 2, #43 overall. Two important details, Jack Del Rio was 33 YO in 1996, and Jacob Rodriguez isn’t Zach Thomas. Despite that, I’m telling you there is no way a healthy Jacob Rodriguez isn’t starting for the 2026 Miami Dolphins. That doesn’t mean Tyrel Dodson gets cut, but he might get traded. Rodriguez is the type of player that will bring some next level excitement to this team, and they will want him on the field ASAP!

Newly drafted 1st RD Pick (#27) CB Chris Johnson is listed as the starting LCB on Ourlads. I agree with that, the first round pick will be given every opportunity in the world to win that starting job and he should be able to take it. Opposite him is currently CB JuJu Brents at RCB, but that’s far less certain. Brents suffered a season ending foot injury in which he had surgery on following the Week 11 game against the Washington Commanders in Spain. He should be ready physically to play as long as there are no setbacks. The competition should be heavy at CB and former starter Storm Duck will probably want his starting position back. Storm Duck is also coming back from an injury, Duck injured his knee in Week 8 against Atlanta and had surgery on his knee following that game. He should also be ready by season’s start, but Duck had two injuries last year, an early ankle injury and then the season ending knee injury. I count 10 CB’s on the roster at the moment, and there’s always the possibility of picking up an inexpensive CB after roster cutdowns as well. Brents has good size and length at 6’3 198, and he has definitely flashed some signs that he could play.

EDGE and OLB should be interesting competition as well. Right now the competition at EDGE should be some of the heaviest because it’s really wide open. There’s third year player Chop Robinson who hasn’t shown any signs that he’s a starting DE or OLB. His play and playing time regressed and diminished last season compared to his rookie campaign. Although we didn’t invest a lot of draft capital into the EDGE position, we did draft LB/EDGE Trey Moore from Texas, kind of an undersized pass rusher in RD 4, #130 overall. We doubled down in RD 7 with EDGE rusher Max Llewellyn from Iowa, #238 overall. We also picked up a couple more EDGE rushers as UDFA’s in Mason Reiger from Wisconsin and EDGE rusher Rodney NcGraw from Western Michigan. In addition, in FA we signed Josh Uche from the Eagles and David Ojabo from the Ravens, and Robert Beal who we picked up from the Niners, as well as Dolphins who was drafted by us in 2023.

For the O-line, a constant source of Dolphins fan angst, Sully announced that the Dolphins will begin training camp with our first pick in the 2026 NFL Draft at #12, OT/OG Kadyn Proctor at LG next to LT Patrick Paul. That’s quite the sizable left side, with somewhere close to 700 lbs with Paul 330 and Proctor somewhere between 330 and 350. Last year’s 2nd RD pick, OG Jonah Savaiinaea will move to RG. It’s expected that RT will go to incumbent (when healthy) RT Austin jackson, but no doubt in my mind that Jackson is just keeping the spot warm for Kadyn Proctor if/when he either departs by end of contract or injury, whichever occurs first. Big Jonah better play well or he better watch 6th RD pick, #200 overall DJ Campbell from Texas (where else???) who will be closer than he appears in his side view mirror!

You guys were practically foaming from the mouth when we picked WR Caleb Douglas from Texas Tech (where else???) in RD 3, #75 overall. You just hated the pick but I think the kid is going to make an impact this season. He’s working hard, doing all the right things, and compared to the diminutive WR’s we’ve had here, this guy has the size and the attitude we want, he wants that damn ball and will fight to get it. At 6’3 1/2 205, he gives the QB a bigger target and will go and get the ball, and fights tough for yards after the catch as well. I don’t know if WR Chris Bell will see action early on, he may start the season on the PUP list or even IR, but our other 3rd RD WR draftee, #94 overall, will also eventually make an impact on this offense. My guess is that will come later than sooner, but that’s not especially important. I look forward to eventually seeing Douglas and Bell together, but we may have to be patient with that. We have veterans Jalen Tolbert from the Cowboys and Tutu Atwell from the Rams and of course Malik Washington as well. We also have Theo Wease who flashed a bit last season and we drafted a slot type WR Kevin Coleman in RD 5, #177 overall. Malik Washington and Coleman will no doubt be battling for the starting slot position, although Washington should be safe for return duties.

There will literally be competition at every position except for QB. Malik Willis will be starting, but I suppose Ewers may have to fight off Cam Miller and Mark Gronowski for the backup spot. I knw we drafted 13 guys, and be mindful that Sully and Haf took guys they really like, so those guys might just have a leg up on the guys that were already here, fair or unfair, that’s kind the way it is. They want to change the culture here, the team demeanor, and the best weay to do it is with a bunch of guys that buy into what you’re doing and just want to go out and be the best they can be for the coaches, the team, their teammates and themselves. I feel like in 2025, we had very little of that, with a few exceptions of course. I feel like we had a lot of “Me” players, and not nearly enough “We” players. That’s gonna change big time! That doesn’t necessarily mean we’re going to win more than we did last season, we lost a lot of talent, but I do think this team will be more fun to watch this season as they grow, and maybe towards the end of the season, if WR Chris Bell is fully healthy, we’ll see the offense make some big strides and give us a nice glimmer of what might be in 2027.

    steve,

Last year Jonah pretty much played exactly how he played in college. It wasn’t the side issue. He showed the same flaws and weaknesses he displayed in college on the right side. Hopefully he’s worked on things in the offseason.

I think this is all kinda overblown. It’s usually a preference. “Feeling more comfortable” simply means you’re used to it. It’s a psychological hurdle the player can’t or hasn’t yet overcome. It’s not physical. Muscle memory plays a role but that can be rewritten. Again, guys switch sides all the time. TEs and WRs can switch side play to play. DEs will switch sides. If you can’t switch sides, that’s on you.

Too bad all these guys want to do is practice as little as possible and get paid. More practice means this kind of stuff gets corrected.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I agree its a mental thing, as is confidence, which he showed none of last year

tape I saw from AZ showed him pushing guys all over the field and no happy feet

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Jonah in college was a lot like Proctor’s in that they didn’t always used the best form, because of their power

power, just like game speed can use timing, neither did

there’s a highlight from Reggie White literally throwing Larry Allen on his ass. Reggie waited until Allen’s trail foot (moving laterally) was off the ground. The timing Reggie used made Allen off balance at point of contact

Waddle explained how he did something similar to CBs, he’d make his plant, just as the CBs foot came off the ground, so he was off balance

  3. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Crabbs thinks we have enough on O, that we aren’t going to be 28th in O

I think we still could be 28th on O and close to middle of the pack on D, and the O be better than the D. Stats schmatz. If we control TOP, run more than pass our O numbers could be low, because of the ball control, on the other hand the D could suck, but be propped up, because of the ball control on O

O and D ranks, Ws/Ls I don’t really care about them this year, just be competitive while letting the youth movement succeed

  4. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    steve,

Jonah is big but doesn’t play with power. He’s more of a finesse guy. I believe folks around here were saying that he graded out as one of the very worst guards in the league last year in both PP and run blocking. I don’t know that myself. But, you could see it. His play was horrible. He played with very little power. He wasn’t moving anybody. He was usually the one getting pushed around.

I did see him getting better as the year went on, but he still wasn’t good. He’s 330 or whatever but he plays like he’s 300. Dancing feet. Just sticking his hands at guys instead of using his power to really get into another guy’s pads. Initiating contact and then sustaining it. Too passive. He plays small. You’re fricking huge. Use it.

  5. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I am over complaining about Fat Jonah. He will work out or he wont. As long as he doesn’t directly cause issues (get our QB concussed) then my feeling about him is whatever. The bozo who had to trade away valuable picks to move up and take him because the rumor was New England was going to take him got fired for his stupidity. I really wish NE had taken him. They probably would not have made the SB!

Now he is just another guy and I won’t hold the three picks it took to draft him against him.

He did really suck last year though and was a deserving target for my ire. Now he will probably be a backup after he loses the position battle to someone else because this regime has no investment in him.

I’m guessing teams will start crowding the LOS on us next year. Both to counteract a running QB and focus on Achane. The trick will be can our intermediary receiving targets, whomever they are, exploit it and get open?

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

that’s why we signed Tutu and drafted Douglas

normally you crowd the LOS against a new QB (none to little NFL exp), and weenie armed QB, that doesn’t have a good long ball or a team with WRs that can’t get open deep, don’t demand double coverage or can’t high point with a good percent

game situation (desperate) would be another time to crowd the LOS, doesn’t apply here

I supposed a D could gamble and put pressure on Malik by crowding the LOS, but I’d think it wouldn’t take long to back them up, based on Malik’s arm strength, Tutu’s speed and Douglas’ ability to high point

Sully isn’t stupid and probably why he reached on Douglas, he knows the risk of not being able to back em off

I guess we’ll see if he really did reach on Douglas or if he fits to a tee, what they want in a WR. Based on the assumption, that we want to be a run first O, I’d think there’s a good chance Douglas starts right away and don’t be surprised, if its in the slot, to get him closer to the run action

  20. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Achane is not just a RB, he’s a great receiver as well. He’s one of the most explosive players in the league. I’m psyched we re-signed him. FinsUp!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

RB like Achane is a good position to have a superstar, because the cap hit isn’t too high comparatively speaking, the fact he can play WR too lessens the perceived high cap hit

the 16m annually isn’t too bad for what he provides

we beat Atlanta and Buffalo last year riding the coattails of Achane

  21. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy – I’m kind of hoping that the pick that got the most criticism is the one that helps the offense the most. If WR Caleb Douglas can use his size and speed to be something like a George Pickens for us, he could turn out to be one of our best picks.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

The Douglas pick is very similar to the Proctor pick without the huge upside potential, in that he fits what they want to do with a player with lots of intangibles

without Douglas we’d be looking at a season like the one Hartline was our best downfield threat

Douglas is going to surprise a lot of us

  28. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t think the amounts Achane is making that are being showed right now are accurate. It was a 4 year extension, but you have to add his original year (which I am having a hard time finding now that the websites have jumped to put the news out, without the detail breakdown yet)

    It was originally a 4 year 5.4M contract so he had like 1.4m left. So 1.4+68M = 69.4M div by 5 + 13.88 not 17

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Actually, he got that pay jump this year for players who outperformed their current contract. I think he was due like 5.8 to 6m this year.

Also, I think it was 4yrs, 64m with incentive bonuses that could push it to 68m.

  29. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Now, I just hope he was staying away because of a “hold out” and not because of his shoulder injury. The way the coach mentioned getting him back and healthy the other day had me a bit worried.

  30. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I wonder how the worked the deal with Achane, because they had NO ROOM in the cap season to extend him. He must be getting a bonus that will be spread over the 4 year extension without increasing his salary this year.

  31. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Rock

Devon Achane signed a 4 year, $64,000,000 contract with the Miami Dolphins, including $32,000,000 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $16,000,000. In 2026, Achane will earn a base salary of $1,145,000 and a restructure bonus of $4,622,000, while carrying a cap hit of $2,308,027 and a dead cap value of $4,860,027.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Yeah, like I posted above it’s 64m not 68m. That last 4m is in incentive bonuses.

So they restructured this year also. That probably just cleared about 3-4m in cap. We should start seeing our rookies get signed now.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

4 year EXTENSION not a new contract. He was already under contract for this season so now he is contracted for FIVE seasons.

  32. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

First game of the year is a SB rematch with the Patriots at the Seahawks.

There had been conflicting reports about who Miami would play in Week 1. ESPN Radio in NYC, the home of the NY Jets, on Wednesday reported the Jets would be traveling to Miami for Week 1. That was apparently incorrect.

NFL Insider Jordan Schultz is now reporting the Jets travel to Tennessee in Week 1, and another reliable social media outlet that breaks schedule releases and has a good track record reports the Dolphins are traveling to Las Vegas in Week 1 to play Fernando Mendoza and the new-look LV Raiders.

  34. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Boy, we are going to do some traveling this season.

    ROAD

    Buffalo Bills

    New England Patriots

    NY Jets

    Green Bay Packers

    Minnesota Vikings

    Denver Broncos

    Las Vegas Raiders

    Indianapolis Colts

    San Francisco

  35. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Yeah, I would think so too, but this quote from a Dolphins coach last week had me concerned.

In Patullo’s media availability, he was asked about Achane, and a slip of the tongue may have revealed another reason why the team hasn’t rushed to the negotiation table.

“It’s going to be really exciting to get [De’Von Achane] out there once he’s healthy and ready to roll.”

  36. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    steve,

I don’t think Willis scares any DC. I don’t think it’s him they’ll be trying to stop. The main priority would be stopping Achane. It also helps to counteract a running QB to put more eyes and/or bodies around the LOS. And, the best way to stop Achane is to get to him fast and hit him hard with many bodies.

If Willis comes out and starts exploiting it, we may see a shift. Otherwise, I think teams will focus on stopping Achane….whether he’s running it it catching it. I’m just guessing giving what we know now. DCs almost always want to stop the run first anyway.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

of course the main focus will be on stopping Achane, and no DC is fearing Willis (yet). My point was Willis can exploit the 8 or 9 in the box, by throwing to the receivers we have. It will be pick your poison almost

expect to see lots of, more than league avg, 12 and 13 personnel, with the lone receiver being Douglas. The Rams used 13 personnel with Puka well. Having 9 good blockers on a running play can be used to exploit the D, then if they go heavy you switch 2 TEs (without subbing) to WRs and essentially turn it into 11 personnel

Hafley wants guys, that can play multiple positions to be able to exploit a D and to back them off

I really don’t see how our opponents are going to be able to crowd the LOS often with succees, and why I initially was glad we signed Tutu (at least having 1 burner to keep D honest)

I mean, if we didn’t have an issue with Tua, sure he had Hill/Waddle, but with his weenie arm…

  37. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Curtis from Ace Per Head has a video showing the competition from each position

a few interesting things include Sieler at DE and DT, with his competition at DE only being Llewellyn. FS Taaffe and Trader. I consider Taaffe as another Zach underdog type story and think he may start at FS early in the season

having Sieler playing DE on early downs sets us up to have the edge set on one side, not really a strength of Llewellyn’s, as he’d only play as a situational PR

anyways, the video showed lots of competition and flexibility across the D

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Not that confident in the new FB/special teamer DJ Herman. Let’s hope he at least has some kind of quickness as he is slow as fuck for a guy his size. He ran a 4.94 at his pro day. With a 29′ vertical, 9’3 broad and a 1.71 split, he has no burst either.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

As long as he can block and knock the snot out of defensive players does it matter? Full backs are not historically used for the speed. Ingold’s 40 time was 4.89.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

  52. Randy's avatar Randy says:

When I was about 13 I broke my right collarbone. Flipped my bike head over heels. It was in the early part of Summer. We lived in the country, and our lane was about a quarter mile long. I had to push my bike about 200 yards back to the house. I went inside the house. My mom asked what was wrong…and not in a concerned way. I told her I fell off my bike and hurt my shoulder. She just yelled for my dad to come in the house. He came in the house and asked me what hurt. I said my right shoulder. He grabbed me by the wrist and whipped my arm around in a circle. I screamed. He said: “Take him to the doctor.” and went back outside.

A whole damn Summer wasted trying to do everything left handed. In my family….you just sucked it up and figured it out on your own. Nobody was helping anybody. It’s sucked. Worst Summer ever.

    Guard???

    ———-

Right? I triple-checked Barry’s tweet to be sure he was talking about James Ester. Yes, he was. Per a source, Ester is being looked at as a Guard.

My first thought after seeing his height and weight was Center… not Guard.

Hmmm. That might be dangerous for me. My birthday weekend, I’ll be 65.

I’m thinking I’m going to retire the end of October if I don’t quit before then so I’d be in full celebration mode. 🤣

Looks like WordPress has given us something else we didn’t ask for. It would be great if they gave us back the site the way it used to be before all the questionable enhancements.

Kind of glad they think we will suck. I like all the Sunday early and afternoon games.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

closing in on 3 yrs now, only downside was the 15% covid raise I didn’t get, it would’ve increased the pension

I did the same thing. Could never figure out why folks didn’t get it. Lol

  78. ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Last time it was Thanksgiving game and now late December. Where’s the report button for that?!

Yes Son, Packers….I hate the Packers but I’m going to have to start liking all the transplants. Lol

    • bookman11's avatar bookman11 says:

Yeah, how about a warm game? Just for attending the game. SMH. Sucks. I’ll be at the bar. I can get tickets for those who want a couple.

      • ElephantRider's avatar ElephantRider says:

Yep. I hate being cold! The inside seats are way too much. I’ll probably be on the couch unless Packers suck which will provide cheap tickets.

  79. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

if this team wants to change the culture their candy asses need to be able to play in the cold

  80. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I normally look at the schedule game by game, analyze why we have to play these bad no win games against opponents, that have extended time off

this year its whatever, and I’m just fine with it

  81. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

    Rock on, Piggy!

  82. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Now that we know Achane is the top player in our offense let’s go from there. I see a lot of 12 personnel because Willis is a threat on the ground. We can play big with speed. Dulcich and Kacmarek, Atwell and another WR. Achane is definitely a 20 touch per game guy. His big play ability is elite.
