Second year players will need to step for Miami Dolphins in 2026

Former GM Chris Grier wasn’t kind to the Dolphins roster situation and salary cap situation, but he may have left behind a few players who could help this team from last year’s draft. Some of these players made some early contributions like defensive linemen Zeek Biggers, Jordan Phillips and 1st RD pick Kenneth Grant. Others, played in all 17 games last season but we wish they didn’t, specifically I’m pointing out 2nd year OG Jonah Savaiinaea. He gets a fresh start this season, going back to the position he played in College at Arizona which was RG. All of the players above need to be better if this season is going to be successful in the win column. You can add in a couple of other 2nd year players like CB Jason Marshall, S Dante Trader and RB Ollie Gordon.

GM Jon Eric-Sullivan did what he could to add his type of players to the existing roster and purged plenty of veteran players as well, mostly due to salary cap woes. In that regard, I think he did an excellent job. Culture change happens when you have players that buy into what you’re trying to accomplish, and bringing in 13 + players from the draft and signing some undrafted free agents is a great start. On that same token, both GM Jon-Eric Sullivan and mostly Head Coach Jeff Hafley now have to mold those 2nd year players to buy in and fight for the the right to stay on the field. All the aforementioned D-line guys like Grant, Biggers and Phillips need to up their game. I really don’t expect any veteran signings like last season such as CB Rasul Douglas. Douglas was great for us, he did what we asked and more, but now it’s about keeping the spending down and getting value from younger players.

It’s not only going to be first year and second year players that are important. Veteran DL Zach Sieler needs to keep being the solid dependable lineman he’s been. 3rd year EDGE rusher Chop Robinson needs to make an impact, or he will unfortunately go down the path of yet another failed Dolphins 1st RD pass rusher. Under Grier, he’s extraordinary successful at failing at just that, identifying the right 1st RD pass rusher. The first attempt at a an EDGE rusher was 2017 with the 22nd pick in RD 1 for Missouri DE/OLB Charles Harris. Harris only played in 8 games over 3 seasons for the Dolphins. Grier tried again RD 1 in the 2021 NFL Draft with DE/OLB Jaelan Phillips. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, Phillips injury history in College followed him to the pros, and he missed tons of time with injuries and despite showing flashes of what could be, it never really materialized here in Miami over 5 + seasons here. Grier’s next swing at a 1st RD pick pass rusher was none other than Chop Robinson himself from Penn State in 2024. He’s played in 18 games over 2 seasons but has only started 4. His 10 sacks is unimpressive. While he shows excellent initial burst or get off, there’s not a lot of pass rushing skills or a repertoire of moves. Hafley has to get this kid going, find spots for him to succeed.

We’ve talked about the defensive guys, and it’s not completely clear as to when we’ll be running 3-4, 4-3 or 3-3-5. It doesn’t matter. A lot of the same guys will be on the field in a couple of them, but rookies like LB/S Kyle Louis, LB Jacob Rodriguez, DE/LB Trey Moore, DE/LB Max Llewellyn will get opportunities. While we didn’t go early for a pass rusher, Sully did double down, and then signed one of the better UDFA pass rushers in DE Mason Reiger. Add in a couple of guys we picked in Free Agency before the draft like David Ojabo from the Ravens and LB Josh Uche from the Eagles and Chop Robinson is going to have to start making plays to stay on the field or Hafley wind find someone else who will.

I know a lot you truly hate Mike Florio, he’s been hard on the Dolphins, but dammit, they have deserved it. I listen the Joe Rose show nearly every day, and Florio is a regular guest on Friday mornings in the 9 O’clock hour. He’s not killing the Dolphins now, no, in fact he believes the Dolphins have finally got it right with GM Jon-Eric Sullivan and HC Jeff Hafley. I love to hear him say the same things many of us here have been saying, it’s a wonderful thing to have two guys on the same page for a change. I think it’s so important, because it’s a stark contrast to what has been in place here since 2016. A little bit of Gase, a little bit of Flores, and then too much of Mike McDaniel, and all along, no clear demarcation of responsibility with any of these relationships as to who was responsible for personnel and who had the most impact on draft choices. Now, it’s crystal clear, Sully is making ALL final decisions, but they are made with Jeff Hafley’s input, but in the end, the choice is made by Sullivan and the responsibility falls on him. It’s never too late, and for us Dolphins fans, now the fun begins to watch what an organization that is built by 2 guys with a common vision can look like. It doesn’t happen in 1 season and after only one draft, but I think these guys made a nice dent in changing the team to what it should look like and will be like down the road. Enjoy!

    Mike E,

    Nice write as always!

Sorry, I’m no fan of Florio. As Manitoba said above, “he’s dickish”. I believe Florio founded PFT (Pro Football Talk), and he’s employed some of the worst of the worst in the business, including Chris Simms.

He had Evan Silva (FKA: “Silly Boy”) back in the day talking constant smack about our Phins. Silva has since departed PFT, and I hope he’s doing well in whatever endeavor he’s chosen. Silva and I buried the hatchet long ago.

No sir, I don’t care for Florio… he solely relies on rattling cages for clicks, if you will.

  10. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Listening to Florio the last couple of years, he was on the Phins about all the same things that we were on them for. If he just hated the Phins, he would still be on them, but he’s not. He was very complimentary about the hirings of Sully and Haf, and also of the work they did before the draft, and especially for their first draft in 2026. He’s not a hater, he just says what he thinks, and he was right about McDaniel, Grier and Tua all along.

M – Even when we made the playoffs with supposedly the best offense in the NFL, we were paper tigers. I’m a fan, so I wanted to believe we weren’t, but we really were. There are no excuses. As most NFL teams go, you are what your QB is. Tua is the softiest of softies out there. If your QB is soft, your team is soft, PERIOD! Our Head Coach was soft as fuck as well. This team had no spine, we couldn’t win a big game when it counted. This team was never really a powerhouse, i don’t care about making the playoffs. We didn’t show up for any of them and those are the facts!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

to be fair one of those playoff games was played in -20 and we were decimated by injury, one we played with Skyler and almost beat Buffalo, then against Pitt injuries again

I disagree. Your QB doesn’t have to be a tough MFer. He just needs to NOT be a pussy. Brady wasn’t tough, for instance. What you cannot have is a soft OL. Your LOS guys are who dictate toughness. Not QBs. Not WRs. Maybe RBs. The tone of your team is set by the big guys on either side of the ball.

I may have cursed out loud when the Rams drafted Verse right in front of us. I really hoped he’d fall to us that year. Cleveland is getting a pretty fair deal, I think. 3 firsts and a guy who might be the next great sack guy? I think I’d take that, if I was Cleveland.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

      Not 3 firsts. Jared Verse, a 2027 1st, 2028 2nd and a 2029 3rd.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Verse is very good but I was saying what you were referring to as definitely not the same situation going from the Rams to the Browns. But it makes sense for both teams. The vet goes to a contender and the young guy goes to a rebuild.

  39. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy – Doesn’t have to be tough, just not a pussy, eh? It helps that your Qb is a leader other men could look to. Tua was never that, he probably can’t even look himself in the mirror. He was never a leader of men, especially in big games. He got smaller in those games.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

he probably can’t even look himself in the mirror

      ————

I don’t think he has any problem looking in the mirror. His priority was to take care of his family. He did that.

Some people think they are a good leader when they are not. Tua is that. So, again, he has no problem looking in the mirror.

  40. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

I was never a fan of Tua, so you’re preaching to the choir! Lol

I think the physical/competitive tone for games is set by the big guys on the LOS. If it isn’t there, it generally doesn’t matter what any other position does. I usually think of it more as competitiveness because that comes in all shapes and sizes.

I truly believe that if we can build a highly competitive OL/DL, we will compete. I keep hearing it preached…but then we draft 3 receivers in the top 3 rounds. So, we’ll see.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

  42. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I think Malik Washington will be our best WR by default. Tutu will get some long passes and not many catches, have no clue about Tolbert, the 3 rookies should all have their ups and downs

as for catches, Malik with most, then Achane, then Dulcich, the rest probably won’t matter

there will be no true #1, just different receivers week to week. Malik will be the go to guy on 3rd down

second half of the season I expect the 3 rookies will look better with none really making much of a difference

Douglas should be on the field a lot on 1st/2nd downs blocking, and when he does most of his damage receiving

Receiving by committee with no one more than 700 yards

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

No true #1 is why I keep taking Jeremiah Smith with our 1st pick in 2027 then a QB with our 2nd.

At this point coming off last season, no QB projected for the next draft has made that jump to an elite prospect. Someone could leap ahead of Manning or Moore. We don’t know yet. The 2027 QB class will be about 10 deep with good prospects and probably 6 deep with very good prospects.

  43. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    This was my response above.

All Dolphins are present at the mandatory minicamp. Even Brewer who was absent at the last voluntary OTA. Though, it was said his absence was due to a family obligation.

We should start seeing the rookies getting signed during this OTA. Probably as early as practice is over today.

We might even see an extension on Brewer signed this week if they can get the details worked out.

  45. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I have been going back and watching the tape on all the top QB’s for next year. I hate to say it because he is only 6’1 and his deep ball though accurate is limited. I have to say Julian Sayin is the #1 QB as far as talent going into this season. Yeah, he had some great targets but there is so much to like about his game. I really can’t see anything you need to “fix” with him. He is just limited by size and deep ball arm strength. He has plenty of zip on his throws though.

He’s probably the best in the class with his accuracy and placement. Him going through progressions and maintaining his footwork while doing it is next level. On one play, I saw him look at 4 different receivers then come back to #3 and rifle an 18 strike in less than 3 seconds. That has a lot to with his ability to read defenses pre-snap also.

I think my top 5 QB’s going into this season are Julian Sayin, Dante Moore, Arch Manning, Darian Mensah and CJ Carr. Of those 5, Carr may be the only one who may stay in college another year of the ones with any eligibility left.

  46. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Rounding out my top 10 QB’s are the gunslinger from North Texas who transferred to Oklahoma State Drew Mestemaker, Jayden Maiava, LaNorris Sellers, Trinidad Chambliss and Dillon Raiola.

Then, you still have QB’s like Nico Iamaleava, Byrum Brown, Sam Leavitt, Josh Hoover, Drake Lindsey, Jaden Craig, CJ Bailey, John Mateer, Kevin Jennings, and more to include a couple of really good FCS QB’s.

  47. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Waiting on Alain Poupart’s update from practice.

One note though is Juju Brents intercepted Malik Willis on the first play of 7 on 7’s. Chris Perkins did say Willis was much better the rest of the day and gave him a “stock up” over his previous OTA practices.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

OTAs are nothing to follow other than injuries. It’s just the beginning of getting into football shape.

  48. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

OT Carter Warren was not seen outside as he had some issues with a heat related injury at the last OTA practice.

  49. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    From Alain Poupart:

The four players who were not spotted at all Tuesday were tackle Carter Warren, cornerback Storm Duck, cornerback Darrell Baker Jr. and safety/linebackr Jordan Colbert.

There were no long completions on this day, which as we need to mention again isn’t unusual for this time of year, and one interception for the defense. That came up on the very first play of offense vs. defense, a 7-on-7 session where Malik Willis overthrew Malik Washington and cornerback JuJu Brents went down to catch the ball before it hit the ground.

The officials being on hand was an interesting touch because they’re not always present during the offseason. There were a handful of flags throws pre-snap, though not after a play began.

Among those who were present but didn’t practice were RB De’Von Achane, DT Zach Sieler, T Austin Jackson and WR Tahj Washington.

  50. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Aside from the interception, Willis had a pretty solid day. He again had connections with Malik Washington, though his best throw of the day was a touch pass over the middle that Jalen Tolbert failed to secure immediately before rookie first-round pick Chris Johnson knocked the ball away.

Safety Zayne Anderson had a similar play where he knocked a ball loose after tight end Greg Dulcich failed to make a clean catch. This was not a great day for Dulcich, who also had a drop.

Wide receiver A.J. Henning, who’s a long shot to make the roster, was one of the most active receivers on this day. Henning had a nice snag of a high pass from QB Cam Miller.

While this happened in a position drill, rookie Kyle Louis showed off tremendous hands when he caught a high pass thrown behind him. It was the type of catch that would have made any wide receiver proud. He continues to show signs here and there that he’ll make an impact pretty quickly for the defense.

On the very first running play the media saw this spring, Jordan Phillips quickly got into the backfield to meet Jaylen Wright. He had another run stop later on a play where Chop Robinson set the edge and Wright cut the play inside, which is a bigger deal than normal for this time of year because run defense is the area where Robinson needs to improve.

WR Terrace Marshall Jr. had nice contested catch on a high throw from Quinn Ewers over Ethan Bonner, but he dropped a pass later when he absorbed contact from A.J. Green III as the ball arrived.

Marco Wilson had great coverage on an outside pass from Ewers to Tutu Atwell.

Veteran Ronnie Harrison got himself noticed on a couple of runs, once with quick penetration and the other when he put a shoulder into running back Donovan Edwards at the end of the play.

Looking at the other Dolphins draft picks, Kadyn Proctor didn’t stand out one way or the other, and the same goes for linebacker Jacob Rodriguez. Third-round pick Caleb Douglas didn’t catch a pass in offense-vs.-defense work and wasn’t targeted.

  51. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Brewer has been impressed by rookie left guard Kadyn Proctor. And he believes Jonah Savaiinaea has settled in at right guard in his second season, moving from left guard as a rookie.

“Absolutely, like he’s very comfortable in that right guard spot,” Brewer said. “And me personally, like being a guy that played like multiple positions, I didn’t think it was like that big of a difference. But like him going back to that right guard spot, it looked like you could tell he is a right guard, you know what I’m saying? So, just the development, if y’all have been seeing him as well, like just in the drills and the team run, team pass, he looked good out there. I’m excited for him.”

  52. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

What I find interesting in how people view the Dolphins this season is the LOS may surprise a lot of people and if the QB position plays well along with that we’re competing for the playoffs.

  53. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

As Miami is in the thick of OTA’s, they have decided to make another signing at the wide receiver position. They have signed receiver Jalen Reagor, a former 1st round selection in the 2020 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. Reagor was out of football last season.

The former TCU standout has had a rough go in the professional circuit after a dominant few years with the Horned Frogs. He initially struggled as a rookie with inconsistencies and injuries. Year 2 was better in most categories, but Reagor struggled with drops and made his best contributions on special teams. He then went to 3 teams in 3 seasons: the Vikings, the Patriots, and the Chargers, most recently in 2024. His most recent campaign was unimpressive, but he did serve as a quality backup receiver for the Chargers, where he recorded 100 yards in 8 games. He played 28% of offensive snaps in those games. Reagor spent the bulk of 2025 without a team, but was signed to the Chargers’ practice squad a couple of times.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Wonder who will get cut once the rookies sign. Maybe they are bringing him in for just the rest of OTA’s to get a look.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

The Miami Dolphins announced today that they have signed wide receiver Jalen Reagor and waived S/ILB Jordan Colbert (failed physical).

Colbert has appeared in five career games in one season with Miami (2025), recording five special teams tackles. He entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent with Miami in 2024 and spent time on the practice squad. Colbert spent his final two collegiate seasons at Rhode Island (2022-23), where he appeared in 21 games with 11 starts and recorded 96 tackles (66 solo), 0.5 sack, two interceptions, six passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery for a touchdown. He began his collegiate career at Columbia (2018-21), where he earned third-team All-Ivy League honors in 2021.

We signed Jalen Reagor, huh? He of 22 whole receptions over the last 4 seasons combined, and he who didn’t even play in ’25? He who clearly wasn’t worthy of being a 1st round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to begin with?

Hey, maybe it works out. I highly DOUBT it, as he’s likely just more camp fodder for the worms to eat.

I mentioned last week how I see the 3 phases of a draftee making a contribution (opportunity, coaching, player himself)

what better off an opportunity can a draftee have, than all the holes we have, with no pressure?

seems all 13 plus a couple of UDFAs will have a great opportunity to contribute this season. Surely they all won’t get regular non-STs play, and probably not a good thing, if they did. If Campbell does either someone got hurt or Jonah still sucks

like a freshman class getting a chance to grow up together. Can’t say enough about the job Sully and cook did in the draft and before getting the extra picks

My post went to spam, I guess. Must have been due to a bunch of cutting and pasting. It was just the contracts of the 10 rookies signed.

Only 6 of the 10 affected the top 51 cap by about a total of 2.3m leaving us with 18.8m in cap. We should have around 13.5m-14m left when our 2 first rounders are signed. Traore won’t affect the top 51. Not sure what the deal is with him.

London, who will turn 25 in July, has signed a four-year, $141 million extension worth up to $150 million that comes with $100 million guaranteed, according to Schefter.

    ———–

That is a lot for a WR who only catches 55% of his targets and only had over 1000 yards receiving 1 year out of his 4 seasons.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

That’s why I don’t even discuss the salaries and cap anymore. The market is insane.

The good thing that happened to us was the new regime was handed some good young players to build with along with some good vets and lots of draft capital. It’s exactly how you want to rebuild as a new regime. It’s great for Sully in that he gets to do a rebuild with very little cap and lots of young players in his first year as GM. As opposed to taking a job with a ready made team.

  65. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Tim, I agree. I think doing it this year with little cap actually helped in the long run in building this team. They didn’t know the players on the roster. Having no cap this year kept them from spending money players they didn’t really know if they needed them or not.

Going into 2027, we will have plenty of cap. After all the rookies are signed, we will still have over 100m in 2027 cap. Even if they extend Brewer and Brooks, we will still be sitting good.

They will have a much better idea next year on what they need to add via free agency.

  66. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I wonder what Brewer’s camp is asking for. He is currently the 10th highest paid Center in the NFL already. Top 5 money would be about 12m per year, I think.

Among others not participating Wednesday were edge rushers Cameron Goode and Robert Beal Jr., cornerbacks Storm Duck and Darrell Baker Jr., offensive tackle Carter Warren and wide receivers Tahj Washington and Chris Bell. Goode was spotted working on the side with a trainer.

Running back De’Von Achane (shoulder) and right tackle Austin Jackson (foot) continued participating in individual drills Wednesday. Hafley said that would do the same thing Thursday, the final day of this three-day minicamp.

  72. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

DT Jordan Phillips continues looking impressive in individual drills. He displays power, quickness and speed while and plays with lots of energy.

  73. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Rookie LB Kyle Louis continues showing good things in pass defense packages. Louis has been mentioned as a “big nickel,” meaning a defender who could matchup vs. bigger TEs such as ex-Dolphins TE Darren Waller.

CB JuJu Brents, who had an interception Tuesday, almost came up with an interception during 7 on 7 drills when QB Malik Willis overthrew WR TuTu Atwell. Rookie CB Chris Johnson almost tipped the pass.

ILB Ronnie Harrison just missed an interception from QB Quinn Ewers during 7 on 7s. The pass was high and Harrison extended as far as he could to get his hands on the ball.

WR Donaven McCulley, who has flashed, jumped too early and missed a well-thrown deep pass from Ewers during 7 on 7s. Ewers has been efficient during the offseason workout program.

DT Zeek Biggers, who is the most physically impressive defensive lineman of the group, shows good aggression during individual drills. He hits the blocking sled with authority.

RT Austin Jackson continues to show no signs of his foot surgery during individual drills. Jackson moves without a limp and doesn’t favor either foot.

DE Chop Robinson did a nice job of run defense in 11 on 11 drills by turning RB Jaylen Wright back inside and making the stop. Robinson’s run defense (without pads) has shown signs of improvement.

QB Malik Willis hit WR Jalen Tolbert over the middle for a gain of about 15 yards during 11 on 11. Tolbert has been a favorite target of Willis’.

Willis hit WR Malik Washington on a slant for a gain of about 15 yards sooner after he found Tolbert. Willis was in a nice groove Wednesday.

The Dolphins’ starters did 11 on 11 with 1:15 left from the offense’s 30-yard line late in practice. Willis hit TE Ben Sims for a 40-yard touchdown on the final play of the drill. Willis was 7 for 8 during the drive.

    Stock up

Pass defense: CB JuJu Brents has led the way as the Dolphins DBs continue to get pass breakups at a steady regular rate. The pass defense hasn’t produced an abundance of interceptions but the pass breakups have been fairly steady. Late in practice, however, the pass defense was flagged for pass interference on a deep throw from Willis to Tolbert.

    Stock down

Pass offense: This wasn’t necessarily a bad day for the pass offense. But there were a number of dropped passes Wednesday and few long completions. It’s not a big deal, just an observation that reduces the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the day.

  74. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

That sucks about Salyer. I hope it is not serious.

  75. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

“Yeah, he’s smart,” Hafley said of Ewers. “Just standing back there from a defensive perspective, he knows where to go with the football. He gets rid of it on time. He sees the defenses really well. There are some times when he’ll hide his eyes really well. A lot of quarterbacks like to start down the middle of the field early in the down. Usually when they hit their back foot, they’ve got to kind of get into theirprogression, which you guys if you watch, you’ll see; but he’ll hide it for a long time. I mean, he’ll even throw some no-look passes where all go up to him and be like, ‘if there’s a rush, buddy, that ain’t happening.’ You know what I mean? Like, he’ll be looking over here and give one of these.

“And so I’ve had to tell him a couple times not to get too bored because the rush will be coming after him soon, and I’ll make sure if a quarterback’s going to give us no looks, that he’ll get hit from the other side fairly quickly. But I really have been pleased with him. He’s really grasped everything well. He sees it well, he processes really quickly. I think he’s improved, and I like being around him.”

  81. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

More stuff from practice. The first was from Chris Perkins. This is from Poupart.

Ewers probably was the most impressive performer at practice, which featured late-game situations with Willis and Ewers leading the offense.

Willis led his group to a touchdown when he connected with tight end Ben Sims over the middle for a 40-yard score after moving up to avoid pressure.

Among the other standouts were edge Chop Robinson, linebacker Ronnie Harrison Jr., and wide receivers Malik Washington and Tutu Atwell.

The practice once again featured a very long opening stretching period followed by a very long special teams session.

Both Willis and Ewers threw downfield much more frequently in this practice than any other previous session open to the media.

Rookie first-round pick Chris Johnson had a really athletic play when he leaped to deflect a deep Willis pass intended for Atwell. JuJu Brents, who had the one pick of practice Tuesday, almost had another one, but couldn’t quite grab the ball before it hit the ground.

Robinson was very noticeable in this practice, again containing Jaylen Wright on an outside run and also with his pressure during that late-game simulated situation.

While we tend to overlook most running plays because of the nature of spring practices, we did notice rookie first-round pick Kadyn Proctor clearing out 2025 first-rounder Kenneth Grant to create a hole for Ollie Gordon II.

Ewers had some nice in-between throws, including one over the middle of wide receiver A.J. Henning, who continues to be very noticeable in the open practices. He also nicely lofted a pass right over Jacob Rodriguez and into the arms of Greg Dulcich.

There again were officials at practice, and one of them threw a flag against Brents for defensive pass interference on a deep shot from Willis to Jalen Tolbert down the right sideline.

Former Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt, who gave head coach Jeff Hafley his start in the coaching ranks, again was a visitor at practice (though we didn’t spot Zach Thomas on this day after he was there Wednesday). “He’s in Naples, and he’s always welcome here,” Hafley said before practice. “You guys know he’s coached here. I don’t take that for granted that a guy that kind of gave me my start, now he’s still supportive of me and I’m in a role that he was in. A big part of why I’m here is because of everything he did, and he helped change my life and my family’s life. He’s in Naples, he wants to come around and he’ll be around. So he’ll be here this week, but it’s great to see him out there.”

Willis’ best throw was a rope over the middle to Atwell.

Washington had a nice catch on the first play of the first end-of-game session when he caught a pass thrown behind him.

Rookie fifth-round pick Kevin Coleman Jr. had some nice catches over the middle, but fellow rookie wide receiver Chris Bell again did work on the side and Caleb Douglas spent time riding the stationary bike.

  82. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Zeek Biggers said he has only dropped down to about 313 pounds.

  83. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    From Joe Schad article:

Right tackle Austin Jackson has slowly worked his way back into practice this spring, following offseason toe surgery.

“Feel great,” Jackson said after Miami’s second mandatory minicamp of the spring. “I feel great. I feel fast, feel strong, feel healthy.”

“The only thing that matters is what I do on the field, so that’s the only thing I focus on,” Jackson said. “What I do on the field will speak for itself, and everything else after that will come. But for me, I just focus on being healthy, being powerful, strong, fast and doing my thing on the field.”

Jackson says this latest injury (toe) is ahead of schedule.

An offensive line of Patrick Paul-Kadyn Proctor-Aaron Brewer-Jonah Savaiinaea-Austin Jackson has a chance to exceed expectations because those players all have physical ability.

First-year coach Jeff Hafley wants to emphasize more runs in the run-pass balance with increase in player size and physical play.

“I think that sounds great,” Jackson said. “I think that sounds great, honestly. I know we definitely take pride in the run game here, especially over the last couple of years. Mike (McDaniel) used to say like ‘track team’ or whatever back in the day, might have got a little bigger, but everyone is still fast at the end of the day – offensive line, skill guys. I really feel like we’re the same team, but just enhanced and improved, if that makes sense.”

  84. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    More from Joe Schad:

Edge rusher Chop Robinson has added seven pounds of muscle as he pledges to improve against the run in 2026.

“I was 258 (pounds) when I finished last season,” Robinson said after the first Dolphins mandatory minicamp on June 2. “Now I’m at 265 now, so I feel good. I feel fast doing everything.”

Robinson, 23, has 10 sacks in his first two NFL seasons.

But coach Jeff Hafley wants Robinson to become a “complete” edge player, which means improving against the run.

“Just my eyes in the run game because my eyes were affecting everything else,” Chop said. “So now that I got my eyes right, I feel like it’s my hands and my feet is doing it natural now. So really just my eyes was the main thing.”

“Hopefully he becomes an every-down player,” Hafley said. “I think the easy answer is his pass rush, his get off, his ability to affect the quarterback. But I’m looking for a lot more from Chop. He’s going to play a position where he’s going to line up in a 9-technique and play on tight ends and he has to set the edge.”

“I’m never going to feel like I’m just another guy,” Robinson said. “I feel like I’m Chop, but the first round, all that stuff is out the window now. It’s just I’m an NFL player now, and I just got to go out there and do my job.”

“You just whip the man in front of you and then that’s it,” Robinson said. “Make the tackle and everything, so really just line up and just play.”

  85. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    More Joe Schad:

Brents did not pan out for his hometown Indianapolis Colts.

But he has the physical goods. Brents, 26, is 6-foot-3, 198 pounds. Brents has incredibly long arms, leaping ability and good ball skills.

He has been very impressive in practices open to the media this spring. Brents has an interception, several near-interceptions and multiple pass breakups.

“He’s got great length,” Miami coach Jeff Hafley said. “He’s got good feet for his size. He’s athletic. He can play the ball. When you go back and you watch his tape when he was healthy, he was doing a really nice job. I’m very excited about where he’s at. He’s extremely competitive.”

Brents played seven games for the Dolphins last season and had a strong passer rating allowed of only 70.4. There was a lot of optimism about his play before a season-ending foot surgery last year.

There is no reason Miami can’t be reasonably competitive with some combination of Brents, Chris Johnson and/or Jason Marshall at cornerback this season. They’re all young. And they’re all intriguing prospects.

“Keep coming every single day,” Brents said. “You’ve got to earn it, and they’re not going to be giving it to you. If you want something, you got to go take it. So keep coming every single day, having the right mentality, right attitude, keep competing. And I think the main thing for me is just being available.”

    ————-
Damn! Yeah, he’s a good blocking TE but he’s only caught 57 passes for 625 yards with 2 TD’s and fumbled twice over his first 3 seasons.

That’s an average of 19 rec for 208 yards and .66 TD’s a year and he gets 10.5m a season.

“He’s doing OK,” Hafley said of offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer, who was carted off the field in the middle of practice. “I don’t think you’ll see him out there today, but I do not think it will be anything long-term.”

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Salyer was a candidate to earn the starting right guard spot between Aaron Brewer and Austin Jackson. It looks like Salyer could be sidelined for a bit, as Hafley also said he might keep him out of OTAs next week.

“Caleb Douglas just tweaked something,” Hafley explained. “I imagine he’ll be out today but nothing long term for him. Hopefully, we’ll have him back next week.”

Douglas is one of three rookie wide receivers looking to make an impact in their first season in the NFL, and with every spot in that room open for competition, every rep is important.

  92. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Alain Poupart

The Miami Dolphins wrapped up their 2026 minicamp with a practice that was heavy in red zone work Thursday and featured some good work by the offense.

The team periods, in fact, featured nothing but red zone and saw four touchdown passes, three thrown by Malik Willis and the fourth by Quinn Ewers. The recipients were Theo Wease Jr., Terrace Marshall Jr., Malik Washington and Greg Dulcich.

Salyer was among the five players not spotted at all Thursday, the others being edge Robert Beal Jr., CB Storm Duck, CB Darrell Baker Jr. and tackle Carter Warren.

Zach Sieler, De’Von Achane, Chris Bell, Tahj Washington again were present but not practicing, and the same went for rookie wide receiver Caleb Douglas. Achane did take part in walk-through at the start (after the stretching period) and end of practice.

With the minicamp now over, the Dolphins will kick off the last week of the offseason program Monday with the first of three practices. The Dolphins also will work Tuesday and Thursday, with the Tuesday practice the only one of the week open to the media.

Willis and Ewers both looked sharp throwing the ball, though Willis probably had the nicest throw of practice with a dart over the middle to Wease.

The practice once again featured a very long opening stretching period followed by a very long special teams session.

Hafley explained before practice the rationale behind the unusually long stretching periods.

“I think there’s some studies now, especially with ACLs, that there’s certain exercises, if you do, and protocols that you follow that they’ve talked to us a lot about,” Hafley said. “I think you know it increases our chances not to have those injuries, so I think I know we’re taking that very seriously. So, as long as we are stretching, and sometimes it gets frustrating for you and me, because we just want to start practicing, you guys probably want to leave. I think it’s really important to do so. That’s been very intentional to try to follow those guidelines, so we can, you know, maximize our ability for our players to stay healthy, but it is long, it’s very long.”

    FINAL MINICAMP PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS

    — We again preface everything here by saying that Dolphins reporting rules prevent us from disclosing certain things we observe, such as position changes or who plays with what unit.

    — Since we haven’t mentioned the other two quarterbacks recently, let’s just say that Cam Miller had a better day than Mark Gronowski, though neither got many opportunities.

    — While the completion percentages were good, most of the completions were underneath

    — With Bell and Douglas sidelined, fellow rookie wide receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. again made himself noticeable with a couple of catches over the middle.

    — Among the tight ends, Dulcich was the one who easily was the most active.

    — Terrace Marshall Jr. had his most productive day (of those practices open to the media day) highlighted by his nice touchdown catch.

    — Veteran linebacker Ronnie Harrison Jr. concluded a good week of practice with a nice tip in the middle of the end zone on a touch pass from Ewers intended for tight end Ben Sims.

    — Cornerback JuJu Brents didn’t make any plays on the ball, but he did a nice job of coming up to meet Willis on a quarterback keeper.

    — There were only a handful of plays where there was pressure on the quarterback, the most noteworthy coming when David Ojabo got around Patrick Paul to get to Willis before he rolled out and hit Malik Washington on the move.

    — Wease and Sims both false-started on the same play, something you never want to see at any time of the year.

    — Willie Gay Jr. got himself into the offensive backfield in a hurry on a toss to rookie running back Anthony Hankerson, who slipped on the play.

    — Cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. had a good day, including a pass breakup on a short attempt to Washington.

    — Rookie safety Louis Moore had a pass breakup on a throw from Gronowski to Seydou Traore, though he later was flagged for defensive holding by the officials on hand.

    — Safety Dante Trader Jr. had an impressive pass breakup when he went up to knock down a pass from Willis intended for Wease in the end zone. Trader later had tight coverage on a Ewers pass to Tutu Atwell that went incomplete in the corner of the end zone.

    — Fullback D.J. Herman, the converted linebacker from San Diego State, made a nice catch over the middle when he reached back to grab a Ewers pass that was thrown behind him.

    — Rookie edge Rodney McGraw got pressure on Miller on the next-to-last play of practice.

If your arms are outside the framework of your body, they’re getting bent and crushed. Cleats coming down on your hands. A blocking back or runner slamming into your back or clipping your heels as you fall down.

    Loved it.
