Second year players will need to step for Miami Dolphins in 2026

Former GM Chris Grier wasn’t kind to the Dolphins roster situation and salary cap situation, but he may have left behind a few players who could help this team from last year’s draft. Some of these players made some early contributions like defensive linemen Zeek Biggers, Jordan Phillips and 1st RD pick Kenneth Grant. Others, played in all 17 games last season but we wish they didn’t, specifically I’m pointing out 2nd year OG Jonah Savaiinaea. He gets a fresh start this season, going back to the position he played in College at Arizona which was RG. All of the players above need to be better if this season is going to be successful in the win column. You can add in a couple of other 2nd year players like CB Jason Marshall, S Dante Trader and RB Ollie Gordon.

GM Jon Eric-Sullivan did what he could to add his type of players to the existing roster and purged plenty of veteran players as well, mostly due to salary cap woes. In that regard, I think he did an excellent job. Culture change happens when you have players that buy into what you’re trying to accomplish, and bringing in 13 + players from the draft and signing some undrafted free agents is a great start. On that same token, both GM Jon-Eric Sullivan and mostly Head Coach Jeff Hafley now have to mold those 2nd year players to buy in and fight for the the right to stay on the field. All the aforementioned D-line guys like Grant, Biggers and Phillips need to up their game. I really don’t expect any veteran signings like last season such as CB Rasul Douglas. Douglas was great for us, he did what we asked and more, but now it’s about keeping the spending down and getting value from younger players.

It’s not only going to be first year and second year players that are important. Veteran DL Zach Sieler needs to keep being the solid dependable lineman he’s been. 3rd year EDGE rusher Chop Robinson needs to make an impact, or he will unfortunately go down the path of yet another failed Dolphins 1st RD pass rusher. Under Grier, he’s extraordinary successful at failing at just that, identifying the right 1st RD pass rusher. The first attempt at a an EDGE rusher was 2017 with the 22nd pick in RD 1 for Missouri DE/OLB Charles Harris. Harris only played in 8 games over 3 seasons for the Dolphins. Grier tried again RD 1 in the 2021 NFL Draft with DE/OLB Jaelan Phillips. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, Phillips injury history in College followed him to the pros, and he missed tons of time with injuries and despite showing flashes of what could be, it never really materialized here in Miami over 5 + seasons here. Grier’s next swing at a 1st RD pick pass rusher was none other than Chop Robinson himself from Penn State in 2024. He’s played in 18 games over 2 seasons but has only started 4. His 10 sacks is unimpressive. While he shows excellent initial burst or get off, there’s not a lot of pass rushing skills or a repertoire of moves. Hafley has to get this kid going, find spots for him to succeed.

We’ve talked about the defensive guys, and it’s not completely clear as to when we’ll be running 3-4, 4-3 or 3-3-5. It doesn’t matter. A lot of the same guys will be on the field in a couple of them, but rookies like LB/S Kyle Louis, LB Jacob Rodriguez, DE/LB Trey Moore, DE/LB Max Llewellyn will get opportunities. While we didn’t go early for a pass rusher, Sully did double down, and then signed one of the better UDFA pass rushers in DE Mason Reiger. Add in a couple of guys we picked in Free Agency before the draft like David Ojabo from the Ravens and LB Josh Uche from the Eagles and Chop Robinson is going to have to start making plays to stay on the field or Hafley wind find someone else who will.

I know a lot you truly hate Mike Florio, he’s been hard on the Dolphins, but dammit, they have deserved it. I listen the Joe Rose show nearly every day, and Florio is a regular guest on Friday mornings in the 9 O’clock hour. He’s not killing the Dolphins now, no, in fact he believes the Dolphins have finally got it right with GM Jon-Eric Sullivan and HC Jeff Hafley. I love to hear him say the same things many of us here have been saying, it’s a wonderful thing to have two guys on the same page for a change. I think it’s so important, because it’s a stark contrast to what has been in place here since 2016. A little bit of Gase, a little bit of Flores, and then too much of Mike McDaniel, and all along, no clear demarcation of responsibility with any of these relationships as to who was responsible for personnel and who had the most impact on draft choices. Now, it’s crystal clear, Sully is making ALL final decisions, but they are made with Jeff Hafley’s input, but in the end, the choice is made by Sullivan and the responsibility falls on him. It’s never too late, and for us Dolphins fans, now the fun begins to watch what an organization that is built by 2 guys with a common vision can look like. It doesn’t happen in 1 season and after only one draft, but I think these guys made a nice dent in changing the team to what it should look like and will be like down the road. Enjoy!

BBM’s biggest dark horse QB nobody is talking about to keep an eye on this season is Minnesota’s Drake Lindsey. He’s 6’5, 230 and has a big accurate arm. He’s a redshirt sophomore so he will be draft eligible. He might stay due to NIL money but I think he has the potential to climb into the top 5. I have him as my #7 QB and a mid second rounder right now. The knee brace is just something he wears after having a torn patellar back in HS. It doesn’t bother him now.

This may have been posted already but I just read it, so I’m posting it. I love to read this. No more buddy, buddy, HC is best friend stuff. The things he’s talking about are fundamental things EVERYONE can control. You may have limitations in regards to talent and ability, but not effort.

    ——————–

Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley can accept if a player is beaten in coverage; he said Thursday he doesn’t agree with yelling at a player as he comes off the field instead of using it as a teaching moment after the player is back on the sideline.

But what he cannot accept is lack of effort.

“I meet with the team every morning and go through 30 to 40 clips on both sides of the ball,” Hafley said. “The most important thing I show them is effort…. I watch effort when I watch the film every single play.

“I show defensive guys running to the ball on the backside. I show defensive linemen putting his foot in the ground and retracing to the ball. I’ll call guys out by name… by number and applaud them for that. When they do that, it shows me how much they care about their teammates.”

But he will also publicly identify players who didn’t show enough effort on a particular play.

“Conversely, I will show a guy who doesn’t run to the ball, and I’ll challenge them and ask them why and I’ll tell them that’s not good enough. I don’t do it in an insulting way. I just continually show guys what I see, and I try to teach them what’s good enough and what’s not good enough.”

There’s something else he won’t accept, either: Receivers not blocking.

“When a wide receiver catches the ball, the other wide receiver on the backside better put his foot in the ground and go block for him to show he cares about him and he’s unselfish and he’s going to play for his teammates,” Hafley said.

“When I don’t see that, I’m going to call it out. Today was probably the most we had on offense. That is the most important thing to me. I will not immediately see it on the field [before watching tape]. If I do, I will grab a guy and tell them that’s not good enough.”

Hafley also wants to see players “jog on and off the field. It’s a respect thing and it’s a conditioning thing. All of that stuff is really important to me because I do believe it helps win games.”

    BBM,

Interest that you bring up Lindsey. There are plenty of people in MN talking about him. He’s talked about as the next Drake Maye or Rothlesberger. I think the consensus is he needs some fine tuning in college.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I was hoping you would comment on him. I would say he is more like Big Ben. Drake Maye is a much better runner.

Fine tuning, yes. I will be watching him this year for sure.

  5. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

he throws mostly with touch, but seems to have a fastball. Very watchable ball

  6. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Randy, I will also be keeping an eye on DL/DE Anthony Smith, 6’6 285. I wanted him last draft but he stayed in college. I hope he would last to our 2nd round pick.

Also on that team, I like their big Center/OG Greg Johnson.

  7. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

After singing all our draft picks we have about 12.6m in cap space, per Spotrac.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Who did the singing, and was s/he affiliated with our Phins at all with our ‘Orange Carpet’? JK/LOL/BB 😉 😀

+$12.6M is a decent place to be in right now, after everything we’ve had to go through. This is GOOD!

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

leads us into next year nicely, with all that cap space

106m now for 2027, now that the rookies have signed and we know what they’ll cost

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yessir… sets us up VERY nicely for next year!

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s wild how it can be turned around quickly if you’re willing to do what has to happen.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

are we doing what has to happen? Is Malik your QB?

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I think we’re going to find out rather quickly if Malik is our QB. If he’s not, we’re going to get a very good one in the ’27 Draft. If he is, we’re not going to be in a situation to pick within the top-10 in the ’27 Draft. Just the way I see it.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I hope he doesn’t tease us like Tua did, showing just enough to make us feel like he might be it

  8. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

Smith is a bit of a tweener, so it may depend on how you wanna use him. He’s a big, powerful dude, but he’s not that athletic. I think he’d be more effective against NFL guards than tackles. Is he a 3-4 DE or a 4-3 IDL? I do like him, but a high second round pick might be a stretch for me unless he really steps up this year.

Johnson is a guard in the NFL. I don’t think he has a shot at center. They switched him to center but moved him back to guard. He’s a zone guard who needs to work on having more impact at the point of attack. I wouldn’t be in a big hurry to draft him.

  9. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,

No, Willis is not the answer. The problem will probably be that he’s just good enough to knock us out of a shot at a QB without spending multiple picks. That’s usually how things work for this team. Lol

  10. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Some of you guys love the sour things in life. I never said Willis has proven anything. I have said the QB position playing well because we don’t know what it’s going to look like yet. I still think Ewers might be the guy.

We have talent competing at just about every position. Lots of young players to build a new identity team. I’m looking forward to watching it unfold.

I like being the sleeper, wild card or whatever. I think we’re going to mess up plans and projections.

I think we’re going to be good on the LOS on both sides of the ball.

  11. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Randy, I 100% agree with you on Smith and Johnson. Smith does need to add more to his pass rush game. Seems all he uses is power. I have Greg Johnson as a 4th/5th rounder. I didn’t know they moved him back to OG. Until we extend Brewer, I was just trying to build a list of centers to draft next year who can also play multiple positions.

  12. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

as much as I like Malik, I still think there’s going to be a time this season, when Ewers gets a shot, because of Malik struggling or other. Especially, if Ewers continues his strong OTA play

I see how Malik can be the future, just can’t really see no struggles along the way

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

help around him could be another reason for struggles. Tua had help everywhere, except overall OL, and he still struggled at times

mostly its going to take the entire O coming together, which maybe they can, have doubts about WRs

If Chris Bell plays sooner than later it will help to alleviate those concerns

  13. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    • CavalierKong's avatar CavalierKong says:

This is pretty basic ‘knowing how to life’ stuff.

When I buy new tires, I make sure I get free fix or replacement for road hazard stuff like nails-which all the reputable places give you. If you get cheapest thing you can find from the fly-by-night place on the corner, you won’t get that, but hey you saved $100 bucks on those retreads that’ll last you 3 months.

When I buy a new car, I check to see what kind of warranty or services come with the purchase-duh. I don’t just randomly assume things because that is what dipshits do. If you need someone to explain this to you, you suck at life.

Most people suck at life, then complain to everyone else about all the sucking they do. It’s why I am a proud, card carrying misanthrope.

I’m with Tim – I’m of writing Ewers off. Liked him last year, like him this year.

  15. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’m mixed on Jonah from last season. He was awful to start the season, got better in the season’s 2nd half, even though the 2nd half wasn’t very good compared to the rest of NFL guards. Watching highlights from our RBs and others he shows up a lot

I want to think he wasn’t as bad as his PFF ranking, yet something tells me he was pretty bad. I also want to think about 2nd season, with a complete offseason, and the move back to his natty side will bring better results

who knows, not writing him off yet. He could be the 🔑 to our OL, running game, and O

    in Jonah I trust, I think, 🤷‍♂️

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

He can’t help but get better. He was last in the NFL in pass pro with 45 pressures that includes 8 sacks and 5 other QB hits. He graded a little better in run blocking just to the point of not being ranked last there by just a little bit.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

      “I want to think”

You know the old saying, “Want in one hand and shit in the other and see which fills up first”

Jonah didn’t improve all that much through the season. And it wasn’t just PFF rankings. ALL the tracking sites graded him as the worst lineman in the league. His confusion was NOT from working an “unnatural side” it was from him not knowing what to do. Play after play he would fuck up mentally. His issues were seldom physical. He did not know who to block. If I cared enough I could go and find 40 clips of him blocking NOBODY. Just running 3 yards down field and standing there while defense men ran around / past him to make a play.

The Miami Dolphins are working out Houston Gamblers safety Major Burns today, per source. Burns was unbelievable this #UFL season, with 47 TKL, 4 INT, & 4 PBU’s (9 games). Had an outstanding 90.1 Defensive Grade via PFF. Belongs in the NFL.

another article about trading Brooks has him again going to the Cowboys, because once we’re ready to compete he’ll be on the decline

F that, we’ve already done our purge, we can be a playoff team next year. We need to keep some talent around, and we don’t need to clear more cap

same people talking about trading Brooks think we should use some of our 12m in cap space to add more talent now. SMH

why not save some of that 12m to pay a real player Brooks next year, instead of on a 1 yr rental who is just going to take PT away from our inexperienced?

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Exactly, these people are going by the fact we drafted LB’s Thumbstache and Kyle Louis. I think it’s over reaction to that when we don’t even know what they are on the NFL level yet.

I think Rodriguez would be more a replacement for Dodson than Brooks. I think the plan is to extend Brooks and groom Rodriguez to take over for Dodson as QB of the defense like he was in college.

I’d like to see us in a 2 back, then motion Achane out and hand it off to Ollie a lot

    https://www.si.com/nfl/dolphins/onsi/how-gordon-is-setting-himself-up-for-a-big-second-season-01ktcs2pawz9

if we have issues with WRs we could use Achane out there and put Ollie in at RB. Achane would still get his carries, and extended work outside. He’s not a workhorse back, but he could be a workhorse threat

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

We need someone to step up as the #2 RB. I was not a huge fan of drafting Gordon but it wasn’t a bad day 3 pick. Wright has had his struggles in OTA’s, mainly catching the ball. I hope things click for Wright because he has good size and is explosive.

  31. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I really hope Grant and Phillips reach their potential. Grant can be really good. I think Phillips ceiling is lower, but if he can become that guy who can control the middle of the LOS when needed, this defense might be really good. I don’t think that happens this year, but I really want to see those young guys look better this year. Not perfect…but better than they were last year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Grant, Phillips and Biggers taking the year two jump is the difference in being a top 10 defense or on the other side of 20.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Do you feel Phillips and Biggers are like one entity, vs Grant as one entity?

I’m sorry, but without the use of the Oxford comma, many things can be assumed. 😉

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Phillips has proven he can take on double teams and control the LOS at times, just needs to be more consistent

not sure what’s going on with Grant, like maybe he isn’t serious enough about getting stronger, unless we just can’t see it. Videos of him from OTAs don’t show it

I believe Hafley will control the middle backend with his expertise, so I agree with the comment on Phillips controlling the middle we can be a really good D

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

On Hafley controlling the middle backend:

the same way Sean McDermott had his D mostly great while he was with the Bills, that’s their expertise and their legacy

yet to be seen with Hafley, but McDermott in my opinion was great, with him gone I don’t expect them Bills to have the same success on D

  35. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

    from the Ryder video above

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Grant can get upheld quickly with his club move/swim move, if he had a little more upper body strength he wouldn’t have to go so fast, he could sit back and wait a little, to see which way the back is going. He takes himself out of the play a lot by going the wrong way too fast

if we had more competent players around him, he could just go fast, hopefully Biggers and Phillips are more consistent this year

  36. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

BBM’s other QB nobody is talking about and to keep an eye on is Illinois new QB who transferred from ECU in Katin Hauser. He’s 6’2, 225 and has a good arm and release. Also had 9 TD’s rushing last year. Tough kid who played the entire 2024 season with a painful broken bone in his wrist on his throwing arm. While I don’t think he is on the level of Drake Lindsey, I think he could surprise and crack the top 10 QB ranking.

  37. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I know Tim is wondering so…

The 2028 draft will also have some interesting QB’s and it could be a deep class depending on who stays after this season.

BBM’s top 5 QB’s for 2028 to watch this year who all started as true freshmen last year are:

    Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele, 6’3, 225, California

    Bryce Underwood, 6’4, 228, Michigan

    Bear Bachmeier, 6’2, 220, BYU

this would be a disaster, unless we somehow challenge for the playoffs

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Personally, I think it would be a disaster, regardless of challenging for the playoffs. Why? To put the newly re-signed Achane at so much risk would be foolish.

Many forget that Achane has in fact sustained some injuries in his brief NFL history, including a concussion.

That’s not to say we shouldn’t utilize Achane or ‘baby’ him, rather, let’s not run him into the ground as we had done with Ricky Williams back in the day.

I feel if Achane surpasses ‘X’ amount of touches, we’re asking for injury trouble… and Achane is NOT built like Ricky Williams, to be sure. JMO, as always.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We’re going to HAVE to spread the ball around to keep opposing Defenses guessing. If we solely rely on Achane, teams will decapitate him, knowing the ball is always going to go to him.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

We’re going to need somebody to step up as a boundary WR. If not, teams will always be keying in on Achane and Dulcich when we drop back to pass.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

AND Malik Washington as our slot WR. This will keep opposing Defenses always close to the LOS, making it that much more difficult for us to run.

Again, we need somebody to emerge as a boundary WR to stretch opposing Defenses out… to keep things honest.

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Chris Bell may have been the steal of the entire ’26 NFL Draft class, but until he’s healthy and ready to go (who knows when?), it would be nice to see somebody emerge as a boundary WR.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ross has something to do with the cold games, because he chose to stay in the AFC East.

Until Caleb Douglas shows and proves, I won’t understand why we drafted him ahead of Chris Brazzell and Ted Hurst.

Can one imagine the return of a healthy Chris Bell… with either Brazzell or Hurst starting opposite him, instead of Caleb Douglas? JMO… and I may be absolutely wrong when it’s all said and done.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I realize it’s only OTAs, but Caleb Douglas has not looked good (dropsies)… and has been seen riding the stationary bike as he suffered some kind of injury already.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

That is going to be one I am keeping an eye on. Douglas over Hurst was a bigger ? for me than was Douglas over Brazzell. I would have liked to get Brazzell but he may have been more of a work in progress as he didn’t start learning/running more of a route tree until his last year a TN.

I remember hearing that JES/Hafley wanted Clemson WR Antonio Williams at #75 but he went to the Commanders at #71. I would have taken Williams over Douglas also.

I am just surprised they had Douglas ranked over Hurst.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

they must’ve wanted a better blocker

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Is Douglas that? I don’t know.

Both Hurst and Brazzell graded higher in blocking than Douglas with Hurst being the best of the three.

Hurst had a blocking grade of 65, Brazzell 61 and Douglas 57.

  41. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

So we shouldn’t really play our best players too much so not to wear them down? So let’s spread equality so nobody’s feelings are hurt and everyone can still do jumping jacks in January. 😂

Achane was re-signed because he is a special talent and he’s going to get 20 touches per game. WR and TE are the biggest questions on offense.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

The greater point is THIS: let’s not give Achane 40 touches a game like we once gave Ricky Williams. Ricky was built for that… Achane is not.

I think I’ve made my point.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

this isn’t a good for it year, let Achane do what he’s been doing, instead of giving him meaningless touches to get 1k X 2

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Achane does have incentives in his contract but spotrac doesn’t list what they are. I think it is enough that he would take as many touches you are willing to give him.

He has a yearly 1m active game bonus (around 58.8k per game) so he doesn’t want to get hurt either.

  42. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

M, damn, you got me thinking of the past draft again. I know, no way, right. lol

To think if we hadn’t traded away pick 90 we could have added Gennings Dunker to compete at RG. That would have been a sick OL and I mocked it pre draft a couple times to end up with LT Paul, LG Proctor, C Brewer, RG Dunker and RT Jackson. We got Campbell instead and maybe he ups his game in a year or 2. Hopefully Jonah does.

That said, at pick 90, we could have gotten Dunker, OT Tiernan, OG Jalen Farmer, OT/OG Kegan Trost, RB Black instead of the 49er’s or Edge Dennis-Sutton.

Heck, we could have taken Safety A.J Haulcy at #75 instead of Douglas and still got Douglas at #90, IMO. If not, we could have gotten Sarratt instead of Douglas at #90.

Chris Johnson better be the real deal! lol

  43. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Man, I’m not real cool with giving a guy a huge contract and then not giving him the ball. I get the thought behind not overusing him. It makes sense. But, he got paid…so I kinda want him to be used.

He’s never gotten 20 targets(rush attempts and pass targets not receptions) in a season, so that would be another step up for him. I’d prefer he was at 25. I think I’d take a repeat of last year with more TDs.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Achane had 19 touches per game last year, he could be used a little more, but that’s the point, if its just a rebuild year?

he really doesn’t take a lot of punishment, even so get other’s involved and use him, when it’s beneficial

4th qtr down 24 and we’re 2-5 he can still play, just don’t overload him unnecessarily

LOL, I do it quite often as an unhealthy hobby! But as we both know, we can’t truly render a judgement until about 3 years down the road. Until then, I certainly use discernment.

The Gennings Dunker point you made stood out to me as well, even before you typed it… along with my guy Keagan Trost going before even Dunker himself.

The one that REALLY stood out to me? We took Will Kacmarek over Emmanuel PREGNON! I’ll be watching that one for some time.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I’ve always felt that PREGNON could be an elite RG. Perhaps Sully and Haf didn’t like the idea of PREGNON moving to the right side, knowing that they drafted their LG of the future in Kadyn Proctor, and knowing they were going to move Big Jonah back to his natty right side position as RG.

At least I see the vision there… but man, I would have been very good with Proctor learning RT while adding PREGNON at RG.

went back and reread this article and found something that didn’t look quite right, it said Chop had 10 sacks in 18 games in his career. Not bad I thought, looked it up and he’s played 32 games.

comparing Jason Taylor’s first 3 seasons, he only had 16.5 sacks. I bet Chop gets at least 6.5 this year, if he plays close to a full season

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

only the elite players consistently get double digit sacks, the next tier has a good yr or 2, then falls off.

I don’t consider Chop anything close to a bust, he’s our best outside passrusher, who should get more plays and sacks, if he can continue his ascent stopping the run

  49. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    steve,

Plenty of guys get 10 sacks a year. The numbers drop drastically if it’s 12 sacks. Getting 10 sacks a year is not that unique. If Chop is getting 6-7, then he’s just another guy.

So, free agent CB Darrell Baker Jr they signed and gave a 100% fully guaranteed contract to has yet to be healthy enough to participate in any of the OTA practices all off season.

    That’s not good.

  52. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Hafley on Grant:

“I think (Kenneth Grant has) taken a step forward. I know he’s changed his body. He’s faster. He looks more like the guy that I saw on his college tape with his lateral quickness, with his pass rush ability, with his ability to play the run. Just the way he’s moving. I also think that goes back to year one, lack of experience, lack of reps, lack of maybe a little bit of confidence as you’re out there. And I just feel like, right now, he’s starting to believe in himself and his abilities that we know that he has. Hopefully once the pads come on, we’ll see that continue.”

    —————-

Looks like we are getting the Grant we hoped we were going to get in that he is taking his NFL career seriously and not eating himself out of the NFL.

I think him being drafted with workout warriors Phillips and Biggers really helped in that regard. I heard that they were all training together all off season.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

didn’t know they were all training together, which I recently posted, wished would happen

so where were Grant and Biggers, when Phillips was the first to greet Hafley in the building?

why did Hafley say Phillips, and not all 3 are in the building before he gets there and after he leaves?

do Grant and Biggers, just not workout as much?

I think this is great for Grant, to have a fellow player pushing him. It’s a great situation for Grant, to have a lower drafted player making him look bad, if he doesn’t follow suit and bust his ass too

still, I’ll believe it, when I see it with Grant

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Just because they didn’t put in the hours Phillips did doesn’t mean they didn’t train together. Not sure what Phillips was doing at the facility all day being there before Hafley gets there and still there after he leaves.

You can only workout so much in a day.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Could be using the facilities to watch film, etc.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Yeah, I am willing to bet that those two guys have pushed him with true competition. Under the last regime, Biggers and Phillips both cut into his snap count. He does look a lot more tone in the videos I’ve seen of him this season. (moved the wight from his belly to his hips, ass and thighs)

I hope they each progress and become key players for the next few seasons. Wouldn’t it be nice to be worried about having to pay Phillips & Biggers big contracts before Grant? (First round picks are 4 year contracts while the other guys get 3 year contracts)

*Malik Willis hit Malik Washington for a slot gainer
*Malik Willis hit Malik Washington for a big gainer over the middle
*Malik Willis overthrew Jalen Tolbert on an intermediate route
*Malik Willis hit Theo Wease for a short gainer
*Malik Willis was intercepted by safety Lonnie Johnson, targeting Ben Sims over the middle
*Defensive tackle Jordan Phillips has been causing some problems
*Terrace Marshall may have fumbled. It could have been ruled an incompletion, though.
*Safety Dante Trader knocked away a sure completion near a sideline. Trader has had a good spring.
*Malik Willis strong-armed an out-route completion to Greg Dulcich
*Malik Willis was nearly intercepted by Jason Marshall on a possible miscommunicaton
*Malik Willis hit Malik Washington on an intermediate corner route
*Malik Willis whipped a sidearmer underneath to rookie Kevin Coleman.
*In the spring practices we viewed, Malik Willis was fine. Strong arm. Mobile. Will continue to work on chemistry with receivers to limit overthrows. Did make a few poor decisions on interceptions. It’s early. There is obvious potential there. But he was not lights-out in spring work we saw. He was intriguing. He is talented. It should be interesting to watch.

  56. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    From Chris Perkins:

Dolphins running back De’Von Achane, who has been at organized team activities and minicamp every day during the offseason workout program while rehabilitating from offseason shoulder surgery, wasn’t seen at OTAs Tuesday.

DT Zach Sieler didn’t participate in the first round of 11 on 11s Tuesday. Sieler has been limited in 11 on 11 drills since sustaining a minor ailment a couple of weeks ago.

RT Austin Jackson was working with a trainer in the first round of 11 on 11s Tuesday. Jackson, who is recovering from offseason foot surgery, hasn’t done 7 on 7 or 11 on 11 drills the entire offseason but has done individual drills.

Kicker Zane Gonzalez, the newcomer, was 4 for 4 on field goal attempts of 33, 41, 48 and 53 yards. Kicker Riley Patterson, the returnee, was good from 53 yards. Both kickers have been solid during offseason workouts.

LG Kadyn Proctor had some nice plays blocking DT Jordan Phillips in pass protection. Phillips came back on the next pass play with a nice move. It’s been a good back and forth. It’s important to remember players aren’t in pads and physicality isn’t being used very much.

In the battle of first-team offense vs. first-team defense with 1:10 on the clock and the offense starting at its own 37-yard line, S Lonnie Johnson intercepted QB Malik Willis’ pass intended for TE Ben Sims near the 15-yard line. Sims appeared to be unaware the pass was coming and Johnson jumped the route.

In the battle of second-team offense vs. second-team defense with 1:10 on the clock starting at the offense’s 37-yard line, the defense held the offense to a long field goal attempt.

LB Jordyn Brooks had a sack against Willis on a short pass. Brooks and LB Tyrel Dodson forced a blown blocking assignment by their pre-snap alignment.

There was a pass breakup from CB Jason Marshall Jr. on the sideline. He caught Willis looking for RB Jaylen Wright on the sideline.

Willis connected with WR Malik Washington, who has shown potential so far in camp, on a corner route from the 50-yard line, getting Washington to about the 28-yard line.

WR Tutu Atwell is emerging as QB Quinn Ewers’ go-to receiver, a role previously held by Theo Wease Jr.. Atwell and Ewers connected on their first snap of 7 on 7 together, and Ewers hit him again on the sidelines over CB Marco Wilson. The pair showed chemistry in last week’s minicamp as well. Their only hitch of the day in Tuesday’s OTAs was an overthrown ball with Atwell being double covered — likely just a throwaway from Ewers.

QB Cam Miller had overthrown a pass while under pressure from LB Kyle Louis. This was more of a pattern in Tuesday’s OTA after seeing very little pressure through minicamp.

Miller struggled again as WR AJ Henning came in to break up a medium ball, his first major play of the past week.

DT Zeek Biggers and DE Chop Robinson pressured Willis leading to an incomplete pass intended for WR Jalen Tolbert. It was a solid look under pressure but a little underthrown.

FB DJ Herman had a nice grab in drills despite the ball being thrown ahead of him. Herman, a long shot to make the roster considering this offense might not require a FB, looks strong, agile and seemed to have some good reads.

LB Jacob Rodriguez stripped WR Terrace Marshall after a reception. Rodriguez, who excelled in takeaways during his days at Texas Tech, had sole strip of the day.

  57. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

    Stock up
    DE Chop Robinson

Robinson, the 2024 first-round pick in 2024, had some good pass rushes against OTs Patrick Paul and Kion Smith, although he didn’t get a sack. Still, Robinson, who Hafley wants to become a three-down player, had a good day vs. the pass and run.

    Stock down
    Passing offense

Neither QB Malik Willis nor QB Quinn Ewers had a good day throwing the ball. Throws weren’t necessarily sharp, the pass rush was problematic and DBs did a nice job being disruptive. This might be more of a credit to the pass defense than a critical eye turned toward the pass offense.

  58. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I have seen a lot of reports about over throws. That is such a refreshing change from the constant under throws from the last guy. Now, just dial it in and get more accurate please.

  59. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Stuff from Poupart not previously mentioned or worded with different info:

The players who were spotted but did not practice because of various ailments included wide receivers Chris Bell, Caleb Douglas and Tahj Washington, defensive tackle Zach Sieler, edge defender Robert Beal Jr., and cornerbacks Storm Duck and Darrell Baker Jr.

Running back Donovan Edwards had a long reception down the left sideline from Ewers after he easily got behind edge defender Max Llewellyn, the rookie seventh-round pick from Iowa.

There was a lot of pressure on Willis on the first 11-on-11 work of the day, with Josh Uche and Robinson getting close on separate plays.

As he’s done throughout the spring, Willis changed his arm angle on a couple of throws to avoid oncoming defenders, the first example coming on a short completion to rookie tight end Seydou Traore.

Wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. was on the wrong end of two big plays for the defense, the first coming after he showed strong hands to catch a Ewers pass on a slant, only to fumble it after being stripped (couldn’t quite see who got the strip). On the second, safety Dante Trader Jr. came over to knock the ball away and prevent a completion on a pass from Ewers.

Ewers overall had a solid day, though he had a couple more errant throws than in previous practices.

Rookie free agent Mason Reiger got around the edge to put pressure on Cam Miller and force him to step up in the pocket.

Miller was off target in his limited work.

Theo Wease Jr. came up with a nice catch on a Willis pass to barely was above the ground.

Ewers showed good zip on an outside pass to Sims.

Cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. dropped what looked like a sure interception on a deep pass from Willis intended for Jaylen Wright, though he did great a pass breakup on the play.

Former #Bills second-round pick A.J. Epenesa has a new home. He’s signed with the #Eagles, the team announced.

    ———-

Many rumors had been floating around that we’d be the team to sign Epenesa after we hosted him for a visit.

One last task remains: re-sign Jordyn Brooks.

  75. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    @AdamSchefter

The Dolphins now have done two extensions in recent weeks: RB De’Von Achane: 4 years, $64M; C Aaron Brewer: 3 years, $52.5M

    ———-

As I said, one last task remains: re-sign Jordyn Brooks.

  76. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    WTMFF!!?

    WHY!

WHY did the throw a void year on Brewer’s extension!!? STOP THAT BULLSHIT!

he has a void year for 2030 according to spotrac.

  77. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

We were clean! We had no dead money and now they do! WHY is Brandon Shore still employed?

  78. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I see from Over the cap who has not updated to the new contract that the Shore had already reworked Brewer’s contract to have 4 void years. ’27 -’30. He kept the void year for ’30 and “unvoided” ’27 – ’29 with new money (Plus moved MORE money into ’30)

So I went to the link on the Dolphins web-site to “purchase tickets” and it brings you to ticketmaster (WHO I DESPISE!!)

Anyway, I have been poking around and it appears that the best pricing for lower bowl seats for the Bengals game are in the $204.0 plus tax range.

There are currently several areas available throughout the lower bowl with 10 or more seats in the same general areas. (within a few rows of each other, if not all in the same row.)

The upper bowl seats range from nose bleed corners at $104.50 to $152.50 for inner yard line seats (between the 40’s)

The group rate that Stanger got us in the past was a real savings compared to individual seats!

I have only been poking around for about 15 minutes, but I cannot seem to find the parking passes which we will need to get a couple of in order to set up for the tailgate.

Here is the link if you want to scroll around and see where the seats are available.

The blue sections have available seats. If you zoom in, the view changes to individual seat view so you can see what seats are available in what row.

    https://www.ticketmaster.com/event/0D00646CE56D131E?brand=dolphins&artistid=805964&wt.mc_id=NFL_TEAM_MIA_SGT_PG_HOME_3&utm_source=NFL.com&utm_medium=client&utm_campaign=NFL_TEAM_MIA&utm_content=SGT_PG_HOME_3

The core of us still plan on having a Microsoft Teams Meeting (probably next Wednesday night at 7:30 or 8:00) to make a group decision on the section we want to sit in as a group.

I am fine spending $250 as it is a once in a year thing, but I understand other people have the great expense of flying and hotel on top.

If you want to sit with the “Group” plan on setting aside 1/2 an hour next Wednesday evening.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

HOLY FUCK I just found parking passes and this cannot be right. I know Ross fucked up the parking with the race track and tennis and whatever, but parking in the inner orange lots are $409.00 per parking spot PLUS tax. The spots in the outer parking lots (Yellow) are $229 each plus tax

To park in the “park and ride” lot way the fuck out by I-95 are $89.00 per spot (no tailgating, these are not even close to the property)

  80. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    UHG

The break between OTA and training camp is the worst. Usually any news is bad news. At least we got good news on Aaron Brewer’s extension.

      ^

That’s why I am looking at them all. I am sure we will draft one but not sure at what spot.

I am still liking the thought of taking an elite rare talent in WR Jeremiah Smith 1st round. Though, we could miss on him as well if we pick outside the top 5.

I will take wins over a top 5 pick.

  82. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Not sure how many of you watched the Knicks vs Spurs, but whether you did or didn’t, you may not have seen this. I think Wemby is one of the dirtiest pieces of trash in the NBA. I wouldn’t feel bad if someone on the Knicks drilled this fucking douchebag and he had to be carted off the court. Watch this!

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

he’s frustrated, guy was grabbing and holding him

I hate this version of the Knicks, because Brunson circumvents the rules. Just can’t stand him, he’s the modern version of James Harden in his prime, with all the head perks and flopping

I used to like the Knicks

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Wow Steve, that is probably the most ridiculous take on that. Congratulations, you’ve exceeded what I thought possible. Wemby is a dirty motherfucker, anything he gets he deserves. Funny how you turn around and make it a Knicks problem

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Knicks are a dirty team, they pull all that shit, that gets you punched in the playground

  83. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Yep, we got 6 weeks of slow news. So….

Here is another dark horse QB to keep an eye on. I think he will really climb draft boards during the college season. He started the last 2 years at Harvard and then transferred this year to TCU as a graduate student. Jaden Craig, 6’2, 220, strong arm, accurate, good ball placement, good movement and obviously smart. He threw for 6,074 yards, 52 TD’s and 12 INT’s in his time at Harvard.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Ollie Gordon impressed in his limited workload last year.

      ———-

Another dumb take by Brian Miller.

Really, Gordon impressed Brian Miller with his 70 rushes at 2.8 yards per carry and his 4.6 yards per reception. SMH

Wright also had 70 rushes but at 4.1 per carry and averaged 8.8 per reception.

Wright does need better vision, but he is not terrible in that regard. Drops weren’t an issue last year for him either and should be something he can get better at.

We need to get better at the RB2 position. That’s why I wanted Kaelon Black in the draft. Getting better at RB2 isn’t going to come from Ollie Gordon, IMO.

  84. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

If I was the Coach of the Knicks, I’d send in Hukporti or Jemison for a couple of minutes to level Wemby, knock him right off his heels so he lands on his ass. We don’t need to do that because we’re just going to beat him and his team anyway, but I’d make sure that he knows that you if you fuck around, YOU FIND OUT!!!

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Weren’t the Pistons know for that back in the day?

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

The Pistons definitely were when Laimbeer was there, absolutely. The Knicks and Heat had some epic battles too. The NBA was different then though. Wemby has proven to be a very dirty player but he is one of the faces of the league, so they don’t want him out, and rightfully so. That’s why someone on the Knicks needs to level him so he knows he can’t do that shit. He is one more technical foul away from suspension, but he’d probably have to commit murder to get that next technical foul. lol

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

seriously Mike, its obviously retaliation, lots of stars have to deal with it

  85. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I’ve watched all the games, the first especially dirty play I saw by either team was Wemby grabbing Brunson by the neck and throwing him down. There’s always pushing and shoving, but there’s a reason Steve, why Wemby has 3 technical fouls against him and no one else had any, until Mitch Robinson gave Wemby a forearm shiver. The elbow he threw against OKC was insanity. He could have really got someone very hurt. He’s an immature kid, the Knicks are all veterans and have more respect for other players in the league than Wemby does. He’s one tech away from being suspended for a reason, he’s a dirty player.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Wemby is blatant. Guys like Bill Laimbeer at least tried to be sneaky about their dirty play most times. Other times he would make the hard, intentional foul pushing it to the limit. They weren’t called the “Bad Boys” for nothing.

  86. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

I would absolutely LOVE to see Bill Laimbeer in his prime vs this Wemby character today! Laimbeer would get ejected, but I guarantee Wemby would miss half the season with fractured face or worse.

I side with Mike E on this one… Wemby deserves whatever is coming his way in retribution on the court (and ONLY the court).

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

PS: I despised Bill Laimbeer, much like I despised Bill Romanowski. But sometimes ya just wish an OG badass would put a newbie fuckhead in his place.

      Two wrongs don’t make a right… I’m just sayin’… 😉

      • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Yeah, I hated him also. I have been a Bull’s fan since Artis Gilmore joined the Bull’s in the late 70’s. Then he left and MJ came shortly after. Them Bull’s and Piston’s games were some serious battles back then.

  87. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Kenneth Grant said he has gotten down below his combine weight and plans to work out through the summer continuing to build his strength and come into camp at 325. He dropped a good bit of bad fat weight and increased his muscle weight so the poundage difference is not that significant. This has led to him felling quicker and faster off the snap.

  88. Randy's avatar Randy says:

That Wemby video was confusing. Was he purposely trying to jump and kick the other guy in the knee and missed? Did he start the play with an elbow? What did he do?

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It looked like he had intentions of kicking OG in the back of the knee, but missed. Nothing confusing about that

  89. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

You’re killin me Mike, you watch a 3 second, out of context video by a Homer Knicks fan, and…

where have we seen out of context videos before🤔

Wemby is too high strung, doesn’t know how to keep his emotions in check, and the Knicks sucker him into doing something stupid

savy vet and Wemby don’t belong in the same sentence

a dirty player is one that starts shit, a stupid player is one that let’s the tricks get to him

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Wemby isn’t close to the kind of dirty player Lambeer was. One is an agitator the other is reactionary

  90. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

The doldrums have begun! LOL 😉

Just for the record, IDGAF about the NBA. They lost me over 2 decades ago. Thus, my opinion is worth less than ANY opinion Whoopi Goldberg has to say about ANYTHING! 😉

  91. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    MikeE,

I just couldn’t tell if he did it on purpose and just missed or was just flailing. It looked like he directed a kick to the knee of that guy. That’s career ending if he really tried to kick him in the side of the knee like that.

  92. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Steve – you’re cracking me up. Brunson has been manhandled the entire series. Did you see him kick anyone? Townes beat Wemby to the basket while Wemby was reaching in and the refs turned the call around on to Townes. Did you see Townes try and kick anyone? Wemby is a spoiled fucking brat, he’s the face of the league so he gets the calls and they don’t want him not to be on the court. He would have to stab someone on the court now in this series in order to have a technical foul called on him. Does it matter WHY he’s dirty? Maybe Bill Laimbeer was abused by his Uncle. Does it matter? Wemby has done some seriously dirty shit and if he had made contact with OG’s leg and OG got injured he would have been suspended. Not sure why you love him so much, he’s a fucking spoiled baby

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

      sounds like Homer talk

I really don’t care one way or the other

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Well, I am a Knicks fan, but this series has been called to San Antonio’s advantage in large part. They could have easily given Wemby a technical foul when he grabbed Brunson by the neck and threw him down but they didn’t. If it was any other player there wouldn’t even be a question, it would have been a technical. Tell me I’m wrong and then I’ll know you’re just being ridiculous for the heck of it.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

        like I said Homer

what in your response is anything other than Homer talk

in your view Brunson doesn’t get any calls

  93. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Jalen Reagor recorded an official 4.47-second 40-yard dash at the 2020 NFL Scouting Combine. However, at his virtual pro day later that offseason, he ran an unofficial 4.22 to 4.28-second 40-yard dash after dropping

Just watched his highlights and his speed shows up on tape. Don’t really know what he brings, worth the little risk, especially since our cupboards…

  94. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

I sure hope that stuff about Grant is true. He has the body to easily keep the weight and still build strength. Like I said before we drafted him…he was flabby. I hope he’s actually putting in the work. If he does, I think he can feast on guards.
