Chris Greer reached all the time, but he was giving up quality draft picks to do so throughout his 10 years being here he gave up five or 6/3 and fourth round picks to select bums

I tend to agree with ya, Tim. Yes, we definitely reached on whipping boy Caleb Douglas. It could be argued that we reached on Will Kacmarek, but I like his selection for doing the unsung dirty work necessary to make a running game THRIVE(!).
There’s also an argument to be made that we didn’t *need* to draft J-Rod in the 2nd round, being our ILB/MLB corps was already very solid. We could have used an EDGE there, instead of yet another ILB/MLB. But with an eye on the future, perhaps we finally found the next great ILB/MLB (you KNOW I’ve been wanting the next Brian Urlacher/Zach Thomas for years!).
I can understand why some feel we reached… it’s all good.
The proof comes out in the pudding 2-3 years from now.

I look at way more than #’s. So do several others on here. I can’t think of one OL I overrated. Many went within about 10-15 spots of where I thought they would go. Only OL I think fell farther then I thought he should was Dunker. I thought we should have taken him at #75 and instead he went at #96.
We will see on that and where he ranks at the end of the season vs Douglas.
Clearly the author of this article is thinking the Dolphins have no desire to be competitive. We don’t need a legit backup QB because we’re paying Willis starter money and we know for a fact we’re drafting a QB in 2027. Kacmarek as well, but I think he was the most under rated TE. I didn’t agree with draft sites having him that low. Jackson Hawes was rated a 7th rounder, Bills took him 2 rounds earlier and he has been a stud for them. I see the same for Kacmarek even though taken with a late 3rd I think the value will be there.

Texas will be a team to watch this year. SI’s latest mock draft has Dolphins taking QB Arch Manning #1 overall, but also has 4 Texas players being drafted in the top 9. Depending on the season Texas WR Wingo has, they could have 5 players drafted in the top 10 with 2 of them being WR’s.
They had WR Smith going to Cards and QB Donte Moore going to the Jets.
So with Rasul Douglas signing with the Redskins (on the relative cheap for $3.8M/ 1-year), that should tell us we want to develop from the bevy of CBs we currently have in-house: I don’t see us signing any ‘names’ at the position from here on out.
It also — at least to me — signals that we’re not… taking ourselves too seriously in terms of playoff aspirations in year 1. Translation? The organic tank is on.

I don’t think it is an organic tank. We drafted a CB when we already had a bunch. I think it is more of a matter of letting the young bucks play so Hafley can see what he has going into the 2027 draft. The top 5 CB group looks good for next draft also.
Yeah, we signed some vets at safety and drafted on but we were real thin there unlike CB. We have CB’s coming out our ears.

Can I get some props for my guy Keagen Trost?!! Draft simulators everywhere were projecting him to go late on day 3. My guy went on day 2 (3rd round)!!! I predicted him to go R3P94 (to us), but he went to the Rams one mere pick earlier.
I stand on what MY eyes and ears tell me, not draft simulators.
As of this moment, I’d have no problem using our first pick on Jeremiah Smith. If he balls out again this season, I’m in. But, I gotta see what QB is available at that pick first if it’s a top 5 pick. If it’s between Smith and my 3-4 favorite QB, I think I’m going with Smith.
It’s one of the reasons I wasn’t real happy about spending 2 third rounders on WRs this past draft because we will be in a position, more than likely, to have a chance to draft a fantastic prospect at the position if we aren’t drafting a QB next draft.

Look at who is on the #1 tandem. M13’s guy (who I liked a ton also) Xavier Watts who we could have easily gotten had we not traded up for Jonah in the 2025 draft. We had a need at safety but waited and took Trader.
Also, in the #4 tandem, it still bothers me we didn’t resign Brandon Jones. Bronco’s got a steal getting him for 3yrs at 20m. He was PFF’s 9th ranked safety in the NFL and ranked 3rd in the NFL in coverage among all safeties in his first season with the Broncos in 2024.
In 2025, Jones had the 3rd highest PFF rating among all safeties.
I loved him for us, heady player, hustle guy…unlike when Wilkins was off doing stupid shit, like sliding into X on the sideline, knocking the fumble OB, instead of just letting X pick it up, or all his rah, nah PFs. While Brandon was running someone down on a hustle play

Really cool interview with my guy QB Byrum Brown, now the QB of the Clemson Tigers for the ’26 college season. He’s seems to have outstanding character, charisma, thoughtful, and is very well/soft spoken.

I see a lot of 12 and 22 personnel. They’re definitely going to try and establish the ground game with Achane and Willis. Chip away and high percentage pass plays. Then take some shots down the field.
I don’t think we have any other choice at this point but to do what you’re suggesting. The problem is that sort of gameplay isn’t winning playoff games. The team will have to develop into a normal NFL offense. Playing the running game and keeping it safe is fine for this year but it’s not a winning formula. Sooner or later….preferably by 2028…we are going to need to open it up if we want to compete at the highest levels.
as soon as we get behind double digits we’ll be passing plenty. The heavy packages are the game plan and are only in play, while it still fits winning using it
what we’re talking about are those games like Atlanta and Buffalo last year, where we ran all over their ass and we’re able to stick with it. That will be the game plan week after week

12 and 22 packages are fine for where this team is now, but it’s not a SB winning strategy. Nobody wins that way anymore. Very few teams use 22 personnel consistently all that much. 12 personnel more, sure…but not 22. Teams don’t like taking WRs off the field anymore.
Most teams use the pass to open up the run nowadays.

ABSOLUTELY agreed. And as I’ve mentioned previously in these discussions about the utilization of a FB without having a FB, perhaps we may use a DT (like we had done with Christian Wilkins) to fill the role in certain sits.
I think a FB is just too one dimensional for today’s NFL. Teams just use an HB/TE or something. Unless the FB is a legit factor in a passing game, it’s hard to justify keeping one on the field or roster. If he’s just a blocker…it’s an easy read for defenses. I’m not saying it’s good or bad….its just how the NFL is now.
My whole point is I agree with the sentiment here…but only for this season. I assume that won’t be our offensive philosophy moving forward because it won’t work. It will actually give us a year to focus on and develop an OL and, hopefully, a running game. Perfect…..works for where we are now. You don’t win with 2 TEs on the field anymore, so it’s great for now…but only right now. It’s a building point.

The stats I just looked up say that most teams still employ 3 WRs over 50% of the time….about half do it over 60%. Only 2 teams employ multiple TEs over 50% of the time…..about half the teams do it 30% or less.
I know teams have started going back to heavier packages these days. I assume to counteract the emphasis on smaller, faster defenders in part. This isn’t a black and white issue. Those stats don’t suggest using multiple TEs sets is widespread or used often. It’s more situational and not a staple. It’s still a WR league right now.
I posted an article that stated Bobby Slowick used more Two TE sets when he was OC in Houston than any other team in the league. So that and drafting Kacmarek kind of points to that happening here. At least it does for me. But we shall see.

QB – No changes
OL – No changes
WR – No changes and they are keeping Chris Bell as the #2 behind Tolbert and they other 2 rookies as the #2’s in the other boundary and slot. Bottom 3 of the 12 man WR group are Henning, Reagor and McCulley.
RB – They moved Ollie Gordon to #2 RB ahead of Wright. Donovan Edwards remains the #4.
TE – Ben Sims moved ahead of rookie Will Kacmarek for the #2 spot behind Dulcich. Traore still sitting at #4.
Yep, I got all that. My only point was that we will, at some point, need to advance past that. If ya run a lot of heavy packages to attack 225 pound LBers and deep safety looks you need to be able to exploit defenses when they start putting safeties back in the box to stop it. Heavy personnel sets are a reaction to what defenses have done and more 4th downs but most teams still want keep 3 WRs on the field after 1st downs.

Remember too that even McDaniel utilized a FB and TE because that’s part of the Shanahan offense. So using two TEs and maybe one as an H-back is probably very likely.

As just a freshman and sophomore he has 163 receptions for 2,558 yards and 27 TD’s against the nations toughest competition.
Of the top 25 draft eligible WR’s for 2027 he received the highest route running grade of them all in 2025.
He’s a rare talent and probably the best player in college football right now.

I contacted DoorDash and they said they would get back to me via email. I get an email 2 days later saying they couldn’t refund the money but gave me a $23 credit on my next order through DoorDash. Where’s my other 23 F-ing dollars?

I used Uber Eats maybe 5 years ago, for a sick co-worker. She never got the food, called the restaurant and they said no Uber driver ever came to pick it up. His overall WR grade over the last 2 years at 92.4 is #1 among all WR’s.

I am just saying right now, for all the BPA draft people, he is that BPA guy. We will just have to watch the 2026 college season play out and see if one of the QB’s take another step up.
I’m surprised you didn’t respond above, regarding Jackson Hawes. HE is the key cog in what makes Buffalo’s ’13-personnel’ work, and with a little bit more time, he’s going to be an even better receiver. I could see him becoming an A+ version of Durham Smythe, who registered as a ‘C+’ TE to me. Hawes is emerging as one of the biggest steals of the ’25 Draft.
Guys I’m just posting the direction I see. It’s not my hope or anything. Offense and defense is so multiple these days. But if you look at the size of the OL and a coaching staff committed to running the football, along with now having a QB who is an elite runner, you can get a feel for how we want a play. WR’s will play for us, lol. That entire room is wide open though. I can’t wait to see the competition.
I totally get ya. What you’re saying makes sense. I was just kinda trying to engage and say that it’s fine for now and even for developing an OL and it works with a mobile QB, but it’s really not how teams play or win. That’s kinda where I was going.
I think over the past, say, 5 years teams have started to adapt to small defenders and safeties pulled out of the box to hamper the passing game. The next phase will be defenses responding. McVay kinda started it, I think, in response to the Fangio type defense with deep safety, umbrella type coverage to contain passing attacks…and in a copycat league other teams tried it too. It’s the ebb and flow of football.
It’s just basic football, really. You wanna play 225 pound linebackers and drop safeties? Ok, the answer is to play more heavy packages and run at those tiny LBers and DEs with no safety help in the box. Make them drop a safety and offenses will exploit it through the air. I don’t see anything new or inventive here. It’s 1980s football.
All that said, it’s just too easy to throw the ball now. You can’t not take advantage of how the rules favor it. It’s a huge advantage….especially if you have nice talent at the skill positions.
I think Fangio with his system really lucked out going to Philly. They have 2 top 10 (one top 5) DT’s in the league to help stymie other teams run game.
Last year, Ohio State had another big receiving target in 1st rounder Carnell Tate. Plus, Ohio State ran the ball 53% of the time.
In 2024, he had to compete with another 1st round pick in Emeka Egbuka along with Carnell Tate and again running the ball 53% of the time. He did it as a freshman catching 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 TD’s to lead the team at 18 years old.
Jeremiah Smith had to make the most of his touches and he has.
Oh, and ball security, he has never fumbled in his college career.
Smith has dropped just three of his 166 catchable targets in two years, yielding a minuscule 1.8% drop rate that is less than half that of any top-10 wide receiver drafted over the past decade. (Per PFF)

Talent usually wins in any system, for sure. If you can get effective pressure with 4, it opens up a lot. Plus, he’s got some nice pieces in the secondary too.
I really enjoy watching 2 good coordinators go against each other and the adjustments they make or don’t throughout the game. I’m looking forward to seeing how our new guys do.

I want to see it also. He is one of those strong-armed passers who have just an average deep ball. Just a 62% effectiveness on his deep balls. He doesn’t have a weak arm and his best efficiency rate is on passes 20-35 yards. Not sure if it is something that can be fixed in his mechanics or not.

BBM been talking up Mestemaker for 2 years now. I have always liked those air raid gunslinger type QB’s. Hope he has worked on hie throwing motion some.
His #1 target also transferred with him to Oklahoma State. Keep an eye on WR Wyatt Young though I think he will be a slot in the NFL and not something we need.

I tend to agree with ya, Tim. Yes, we definitely reached on whipping boy Caleb Douglas. It could be argued that we reached on Will Kacmarek, but I like his selection for doing the unsung dirty work necessary to make a running game THRIVE(!).
There’s also an argument to be made that we didn’t *need* to draft J-Rod in the 2nd round, being our ILB/MLB corps was already very solid. We could have used an EDGE there, instead of yet another ILB/MLB. But with an eye on the future, perhaps we finally found the next great ILB/MLB (you KNOW I’ve been wanting the next Brian Urlacher/Zach Thomas for years!).
I can understand why some feel we reached… it’s all good.
The proof comes out in the pudding 2-3 years from now.

I look at way more than #’s. So do several others on here. I can’t think of one OL I overrated. Many went within about 10-15 spots of where I thought they would go. Only OL I think fell farther then I thought he should was Dunker. I thought we should have taken him at #75 and instead he went at #96.

Kacmarek as well, but I think he was the most under rated TE. I didn’t agree with draft sites having him that low. Jackson Hawes was rated a 7th rounder, Bills took him 2 rounds earlier and he has been a stud for them. I see the same for Kacmarek even though taken with a late 3rd I think the value will be there.

Texas will be a team to watch this year. SI’s latest mock draft has Dolphins taking QB Arch Manning #1 overall, but also has 4 Texas players being drafted in the top 9. Depending on the season Texas WR Wingo has, they could have 5 players drafted in the top 10 with 2 of them being WR’s.
They had WR Smith going to Cards and QB Donte Moore going to the Jets.
So with Rasul Douglas signing with the Redskins (on the relative cheap for $3.8M/ 1-year), that should tell us we want to develop from the bevy of CBs we currently have in-house: I don’t see us signing any ‘names’ at the position from here on out.
It also — at least to me — signals that we’re not… taking ourselves too seriously in terms of playoff aspirations in year 1. Translation? The organic tank is on.
In a manner of speaking, this is called WINNING(!) for the future.
I don’t think it is an organic tank. We drafted a CB when we already had a bunch. I think it is more of a matter of letting the young bucks play so Hafley can see what he has going into the 2027 draft. The top 5 CB group looks good for next draft also.

PFF just projected our Phins to win 3.5 games this season… lowest in the NFL.
When it comes to their Average Wins Projection, the Cards actually beat us out at the worst team: 3.33 to 3.35.

Barring potential FA acquisitions going into ’27, I see (in no particular order, mind ya) the following positions as high on our Draft wants/needs…
EDGE, S, TE, OT or OG (depends on who goes where after Austin Jackson is finished with us), QB (contingent upon Malik’s results in ’26), and WR.

As of this moment, I’d have no problem using our first pick on Jeremiah Smith. If he balls out again this season, I’m in. But, I gotta see what QB is available at that pick first if it’s a top 5 pick. If it’s between Smith and my 3-4 favorite QB, I think I’m going with Smith.
It’s one of the reasons I wasn’t real happy about spending 2 third rounders on WRs this past draft because we will be in a position, more than likely, to have a chance to draft a fantastic prospect at the position if we aren’t drafting a QB next draft.

Look at who is on the #1 tandem. M13’s guy (who I liked a ton also) Xavier Watts who we could have easily gotten had we not traded up for Jonah in the 2025 draft. We had a need at safety but waited and took Trader.
Also, in the #4 tandem, it still bothers me we didn’t resign Brandon Jones. Bronco’s got a steal getting him for 3yrs at 20m. He was PFF’s 9th ranked safety in the NFL and ranked 3rd in the NFL in coverage among all safeties in his first season with the Broncos in 2024.
In 2025, Jones had the 3rd highest PFF rating among all safeties.

Really cool interview with my guy QB Byrum Brown, now the QB of the Clemson Tigers for the ’26 college season. He’s seems to have outstanding character, charisma, thoughtful, and is very well/soft spoken.

I don’t think we have any other choice at this point but to do what you’re suggesting. The problem is that sort of gameplay isn’t winning playoff games. The team will have to develop into a normal NFL offense. Playing the running game and keeping it safe is fine for this year but it’s not a winning formula. Sooner or later….preferably by 2028…we are going to need to open it up if we want to compete at the highest levels.

what we’re talking about are those games like Atlanta and Buffalo last year, where we ran all over their ass and we’re able to stick with it. That will be the game plan week after week

I wasn’t saying I just wanted more passing. Eventually, you need 2-3 WRs on the field regularly. I don’t like it but that’s reality in today’s NFL.
12 and 22 packages are fine for where this team is now, but it’s not a SB winning strategy. Nobody wins that way anymore. Very few teams use 22 personnel consistently all that much. 12 personnel more, sure…but not 22. Teams don’t like taking WRs off the field anymore.
Most teams use the pass to open up the run nowadays.
we really don’t even have a FB on the roster, there’s some camp fodder guy listed but no one is taking him seriously, so 22 personnel isn’t likely more than occasionally
we all know you have to be able to throw to win. Unlike MMs pass first, pass in short yardage, Slowik will use the running game more strategically
all we’re saying is establish the run, if its working stick with it. There will be games we can’t run it effectively enough and will have to pass more. This O will be #32 for sure, if we’re throwing 45 passes a game. We call it complimentary O, run supports the pass, pass supports the run. One dementional Os can’t succeed, unless you have once in a generation players at QB and WR, we aren’t that
the only things holding me back with this team are the brutal schedule and scheduling, and experience.

ABSOLUTELY agreed. And as I’ve mentioned previously in these discussions about the utilization of a FB without having a FB, perhaps we may use a DT (like we had done with Christian Wilkins) to fill the role in certain sits.
Too bad General Grief got rid of RB Chris Brooks. Why? He was the 2nd best run-blocking RB last year per PFF.
We wouldn’t need a FB… just put he and Achane in the backfield together, allowing Brooks to plow for Achane.
And who was PFF’s #1 run-blocking RB of last year? None other than Aaron Jones… another (former) Green Bay Packer, like Chris Brooks.

I think a FB is just too one dimensional for today’s NFL. Teams just use an HB/TE or something. Unless the FB is a legit factor in a passing game, it’s hard to justify keeping one on the field or roster. If he’s just a blocker…it’s an easy read for defenses. I’m not saying it’s good or bad….its just how the NFL is now.
My whole point is I agree with the sentiment here…but only for this season. I assume that won’t be our offensive philosophy moving forward because it won’t work. It will actually give us a year to focus on and develop an OL and, hopefully, a running game. Perfect…..works for where we are now. You don’t win with 2 TEs on the field anymore, so it’s great for now…but only right now. It’s a building point.

The stats I just looked up say that most teams still employ 3 WRs over 50% of the time….about half do it over 60%. Only 2 teams employ multiple TEs over 50% of the time…..about half the teams do it 30% or less.
I know teams have started going back to heavier packages these days. I assume to counteract the emphasis on smaller, faster defenders in part. This isn’t a black and white issue. Those stats don’t suggest using multiple TEs sets is widespread or used often. It’s more situational and not a staple. It’s still a WR league right now.
If I’m missing something please tell me.
I posted an article that stated Bobby Slowick used more Two TE sets when he was OC in Houston than any other team in the league. So that and drafting Kacmarek kind of points to that happening here. At least it does for me. But we shall see.

Yep, I got all that. My only point was that we will, at some point, need to advance past that. If ya run a lot of heavy packages to attack 225 pound LBers and deep safety looks you need to be able to exploit defenses when they start putting safeties back in the box to stop it. Heavy personnel sets are a reaction to what defenses have done and more 4th downs but most teams still want keep 3 WRs on the field after 1st downs.

Remember too that even McDaniel utilized a FB and TE because that’s part of the Shanahan offense. So using two TEs and maybe one as an H-back is probably very likely.

And in those highlights he was only 19yo last season, 18yo starting as a freshman.
He’s 6’3, 223 pounds and clocked a 4.32 as a freshman. Some say he can run a sub 4.3 and was said to be clocked at 23.5 mph in the 2025 offseason. Xavier Worthy’s top speed was 23.62 mph when he ran his 4.21 forty.
As just a freshman and sophomore he has 163 receptions for 2,558 yards and 27 TD’s against the nations toughest competition.
Of the top 25 draft eligible WR’s for 2027 he received the highest route running grade of them all in 2025.
He’s a rare talent and probably the best player in college football right now.

The DoorDash site showed the restaurant open. I placed my order and paid the $46 with my card. DoorDash said my order would be ready in 25-30 minutes. I drove to the restaurant and it was closed due to a plumbing issue. I came home and cancelled the order but was still charged the $46 on my card.
I contacted DoorDash and they said they would get back to me via email. I get an email 2 days later saying they couldn’t refund the money but gave me a $23 credit on my next order through DoorDash. Where’s my other 23 F-ing dollars?
I tried to contact them again to tell them that was bullshit but could never talk to a live person and my other messages went unanswered.

I’m surprised you didn’t respond above, regarding Jackson Hawes. HE is the key cog in what makes Buffalo’s ’13-personnel’ work, and with a little bit more time, he’s going to be an even better receiver. I could see him becoming an A+ version of Durham Smythe, who registered as a ‘C+’ TE to me. Hawes is emerging as one of the biggest steals of the ’25 Draft.

Guys I’m just posting the direction I see. It’s not my hope or anything. Offense and defense is so multiple these days. But if you look at the size of the OL and a coaching staff committed to running the football, along with now having a QB who is an elite runner, you can get a feel for how we want a play. WR’s will play for us, lol. That entire room is wide open though. I can’t wait to see the competition.

I totally get ya. What you’re saying makes sense. I was just kinda trying to engage and say that it’s fine for now and even for developing an OL and it works with a mobile QB, but it’s really not how teams play or win. That’s kinda where I was going.
I think over the past, say, 5 years teams have started to adapt to small defenders and safeties pulled out of the box to hamper the passing game. The next phase will be defenses responding. McVay kinda started it, I think, in response to the Fangio type defense with deep safety, umbrella type coverage to contain passing attacks…and in a copycat league other teams tried it too. It’s the ebb and flow of football.
It’s just basic football, really. You wanna play 225 pound linebackers and drop safeties? Ok, the answer is to play more heavy packages and run at those tiny LBers and DEs with no safety help in the box. Make them drop a safety and offenses will exploit it through the air. I don’t see anything new or inventive here. It’s 1980s football.
All that said, it’s just too easy to throw the ball now. You can’t not take advantage of how the rules favor it. It’s a huge advantage….especially if you have nice talent at the skill positions.
I think Fangio with his system really lucked out going to Philly. They have 2 top 10 (one top 5) DT’s in the league to help stymie other teams run game.

Last year, Ohio State had another big receiving target in 1st rounder Carnell Tate. Plus, Ohio State ran the ball 53% of the time.
In 2024, he had to compete with another 1st round pick in Emeka Egbuka along with Carnell Tate and again running the ball 53% of the time. He did it as a freshman catching 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 TD’s to lead the team at 18 years old.
Jeremiah Smith had to make the most of his touches and he has.

Physically, he has the prototypical Traits that I like Although his throwing power is lacking for someone his size.
I want to see it also. He is one of those strong-armed passers who have just an average deep ball. Just a 62% effectiveness on his deep balls. He doesn’t have a weak arm and his best efficiency rate is on passes 20-35 yards. Not sure if it is something that can be fixed in his mechanics or not.
I think Rodriguez is going to force his way onto the field sooner rather than later

I’ll try to keep an ear to the Drake Lindsey info up here for you fellas who like him. If he plays Iowa this year, that will be a good test/evaluation. Iowa is going through a kinda transition right now on defense with younger guys, but I’d guess we’ll still be one of the better defenses in college. Top 20….i hope. Lol
Hard to make a call on that Iowa defense this year. They did bring in some experienced transfers at Safety and to add depth.
Two players I really like from this year’s Iowa team are OT Trevor Lauck and Safety/NB/CB Zach Lutmer.
I think Trevor Lauck could play anywhere on the OL but would like to hear your take on that.
I think Lutmer could be a chess piece in the secondary. He’s got good size at 6’0, 205. He reminds me a little of Cooper DeJean.
We do know they will be well coached.
I thought Lutmer’s INT off Fernando Mendoza in second half of that game last year was going to be the knife in the back for Indiana, but they pulled it out.
