2026 Season – Game 3 – Chiefs @ Dolphins

The 0-2 Dolphins come home to Hard Rock Stadium to take on the 2-0 Kansas City Chiefs. You would have to go all the way back to 2011 to find the last time the Miami Dolphins have defeated the Kansas City Chiefs. That was the Great Matt Moore was our QB, slinging TD’s thrice to defeat the Chiefs 31-3. Since then, 0 for 5, including 3 losses with the Great Tua Tagovailoa at the helm, our great savior. This one shouldn’t be much different, but the young Dolphins do get a taste of home cooking, but unless they play better than the last 2 weeks, there’s potential for the home crowd to be downright rude. I’m really hoping that doesn’t happen, this team could use a good game, win or lose.

Last week, I was really taken aback by our defense, or lack of it more appropriately. No kidding, I feel like receivers were open all over the field, and I’m not talking about 1, I mean two or three on a bunch of plays. We held an advantage with time of possession in the first half of the game last week’s game, (19.17 – 10.43), but the Chiefs scored 2 TD’s, while the Dolphins managed only 2 FG’s, as Riley Patterson was only 2-3 on first half FG’s, missing a 47 yard FG. The offense was the story of the 1st half, while the defense looked like a bunch of matadors allowing receivers and ball carriers clear paths to accomplish whatever they wished. Honestly, guys looked out of position, out of sorts and unsure what their responsibilities were on defense all day last week on defense.

In the 2nd half, it was the offense’s turn to shut down, and the Niners had no resistance in the 3rd quarter scoring 3 TD’s to make it an easy 35-13 victory. The SF 49ers are a very good team, a veteran team, I bleive during the broadcast they mentioned they are the oldest NFL team. In contrast, the Dolphins sport the youngest roster, and in Week 2, on the road in California, although the Dolphins stayed on the West Coast the entire week after losing the Season opener to the Las Vegas Raiders. The 49ers, who had easily dismantled a team who many prognosticators before the season were calling a Super Bowl favorite, the LA Rams, 27-7. You shouldn’t have expected an easy game for our inexperienced young team who would have ben playing just their 2nd game together, while the Niners are a grizzled veteran team that have been together for quite some time.

On Dolphins “Twitter”, or “X”, there is already much unrest and discord. Some fans want heads to roll and it’s beyond silly. This was a tear it down to the studs effort, purge the roster of as many big salaried players as possible to clear out the negative cap space that former GM Chris Grier was kind enough to leave us with. We traded whoever we could to free up more future cap space and get us draft capital to be able to draft 13 players that both GM Jon Eric Sullivan and HC Jeff Hafley liked to change the culture of the team. In doing this, it would be absurd to expect this young team who was playing just their 2nd game together, to compete with the 49ers. There was no joy for Dougie Fresh last week, although Dar was dancing. Sully and Haf decided it was more important to evaluate the bottom half of the roster, thus not playing the guys they knew were making the team. Therefore, the greater majority of the guys who started didn’t get to play together, so it’s logical that it will take a few weeks before this team can even be on the same page. It’s about improving, and my hope is that each week, we see progress to that end.

We’re hosting the Kansas City Chiefs this week, and even though Patrick Mahomes injured both his ACL and LCL on December 14th 2025, there he is in the starting lineup right at the beginning of the season to lead the Chiefs to a 2-0 record. The Chiefs are averaging 32 PPG, but have surrendered 20 PPG, although they barely survived an OT win in Week 2 against the Colts, 33-30. Kenneth Walker is RB now for the Chiefs, and he gets the lion’s share of the carries. Last week he carried 24 times for 117 yards, and Patrick Mahomes threw the ball all over the place for 382 yards and 3 TD, 0 INT’s. Good ole Travis Kelce was his favorite target, 11 times for 9 catches, 101 yards and 1 TD. Kenneth Walker was his 2nd favorite target, 10 times for 6 receptions, 60 yards. The Chiefs also have WR’s Rashee Rice and Xavien Worthy who had a quiet day last Sunday in comparison. The Chiefs defense has only 3 sacks after 2 games, so hopefully we can wear that defense down with RB De’Von Achane in the Florida heat, and keep the “heat” off of QB Malik Willis, who was running for his life last week against the Niners. If not for Malik Willis’ athleticism, he could have been sacked 5-10 times last week.

Not expecting miracles here, it’s a tall order to take down the Kansas City Chiefs with QB Patrick Mahomes at the helm. Mahomes record as QB is a phenomenal 97-31, which translates to an otherworldly winning percentage of .757. Even if the Dolphins play a great game, Mahomes doesn’t lose close games, so the Dolphins truly have their work cut out for them. As I have mentioned, I want to see improvement from last week. I don’t want to see Chiefs receivers running around wide open, especially TE Travis Kelce who you know Mahomes is looking at all the damn time. Not that I want 3 guys on him, but bump him, and have someone on him like white on rice! DE Chop Robinson is supposed to be back this week for the Dolphins. He logged a Full Practice, along with injured WR Chris Bell, who had a knee issue, although it wasn’t reported as to whether it was his surgically repaired knee, or his other knee. WR Caleb Douglas is OUT, and WR Ryan Miller who caught the long TD last week is questionable. If Bell can go, and Douglas and Miller can’t, it could be Bell, Washington, Coleman and WR Jalen Tolbert would probably see his first action of the season. I hope we have a much more competitive game and see some bright spots.

Speaking of luv the ones ya luv, why didn’t you chime in on Cam Wake earlier? Though you were a BIG fan of Wake as well.

  4. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Tim,

One last thought before I go. I heaped praise on Malik Willis, J-Rod, Chris Bell, and a few others yesterday during the game. We played MUCH better yesterday than week 1 and week 2, against a juggernaut in the Chefs*.

What exactly are your expectations of me as a fan? I’m cool, still reserved, and I won’t even begin to assess any kind of judgement for a few weeks. What am I missing that has you upset with me?

    ?No comprende?

  5. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I knew Achane was done so I’m not shocked. Disappointed, but it will give Gordon, and maybe Wright if that fucker ever gets healthy in his own right, some opportunities. I know some of you are more disappointed with Gordon so far in their careers, I don’t think it’s close, Wright has done nothing. Grier traded a future 3rd RD pick in the ’25 Draft to get Wright in RD 4 of the ’24 Draft. He was supposed to be our #2 that should have been our #1 now with Achane OUT and he’s struggling now with a foot injury. Ollie Gordon was a 6th RD pick, so expectations should be lower for him in general. Now both of these guys, along with Malik Willis getting some extra work will be in the spotlight, if you can call it that

  7. Randy's avatar Randy says:

These calls are all about whose ox is being gored. If Willis was hit by a KC defender, you would all be screaming for a flag.

Get rid of all these bullshit rules to promote offense and protect these cash cow QBs, and we won’t have these problems. But, that’ll never happen so it is what it is.

And I make fun of Mahomes every chance I get with his fake limps and running out of bounds and then trying to get a few extra yards at the end because he knows he either won’t be hit or get a flag. Some of his bigger runs came because defenders refused to hit him. QBs are now taking advantage of the rules. What a surprise.

  8. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Achane injured. Who could’ve seen that coming?

  9. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

This is what I am talking about with Gordon. He will never be anything and if on another team would probably be on the PS. You can’t tell me even Wright wouldn’t have gotten some good yardage on this. Look at the gaping hole created. Yeah the ILB filled in but look at the space to the right created by Jackson and Kacmarek.

Instead, Ollie tap dances around for a gain of 1.5 yards. Not only that but he is 6’2, 225 and the ILB Nick Bolton is only 5’11 235. Gordon couldn’t even put his head down and try to power through him. He just dances around then dives down for a 1.5 yard gain making an easy tackle for the ILB. He had about 5 yards of space to his right. This was pathetic play for a RB.

He’s questioning the blocking scheme but the lack of success on this play is all on Gordon. Should have at least got 5 yards not 1.5. SMH

Long video but just watch this first play.

  10. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I must have missed it but back on 9/26 we sign DE/Edge Andre Jones off the Bills PS.

Also, haven’t heard anything official, so rumor has it we are signing another LB off the Bengals PS in Shaka Heyward and cousin of NFL DT Cameron Heyward and NFL TE Connor Heyward.

He will take up a roster spot on the 53 for at least the next 3 weeks.

  15. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

It looks like the PFF grades are tracking what I have been seeing through three games. Slight incremental improvements.

The 39.2 rating for Willis FEELS off to me but he did make some bad throws that SHOULD have been interceptions if KC could catch.

  16. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Willis needs to show he can make winning plays from the pocket. We already knew he was a good scrambler, but that isn’t what will move this team forward. Nice to have a QB who can evade pressure, but he’s gotta make throws. Otherwise we’ll keep seeing 10-17 point games. We’ve scored 36 points in 3 games. That’s not even remotely good enough.

Obviously it’s not all on Willis, but I’m not hearing he’s making plays with his arm.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Agreed he has to hit on some more big throws but I like that he’s not afraid to take shots. The timing isn’t there yet but it will come.

  17. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    That’s some pretty good company

All-Pro linebacker Jordyn Brooks has now played 100 games in his marvelous career. He racked up a team-high 10 tackles in the game. It marked the 39th game of his career with double-digit tackles, tied for the fourth most in the NFL since he entered the league in 2020.

Since tackles became an officially tracked stat in 1994, Brooks’ 860 career tackles are eighth most by a player in their first 100 appearances. Ahead of Brooks are Ray Lewis, Luke Kuechly, Zach Thomas, Roquan Smith, Paul Posluszny, Bobby Wagner and Patrick Willis.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

I don’t want to Karma anyone or risk the ire of the football gods, but I think we have another LB that will crack that number wide open by his 100’s game. (no whammy)

Me too, Rich. Not in the back of my mind, but more in the middle of my mind. I was concerned when Haf insinuated he was going to run Achane into the ground this season.

I agree with Tim and BBM above: it was misfortune, not overuse.

Achane certainly didn’t have enough touches this season to suggest he was overused.

I’m still bloody BUMMED about it, regardless.

    You gravitate to the negative.

    ————-

We’re 0-3 and we just lost my favorite player on our Phins for the season. Nevertheless…

I’ve celebrated the successes we’ve had to date with our rooks (they’re biting as pups, nearly all of them!), I think Sully killed our ’26 Draft, and I think we’re as low as we’re going to be for many years (hopefully).

If I give a nod to Case Keenum, Hez Masses, or look into signing Jaydon Blue, I’m not being negative. We all reserve the right to celebrate the success of people, even if they aren’t on our team… the same way we (at least you and I) feel pain for another team’s player when they blow out an ACL and their dreams become shattered.

We’re good peeps, Tim: I actually believe I’m being positive.

Just remember, it’s called ‘growing pains’ for a reason: it’s painful! I still support what we’re doing 100%. It’s just going to take some time before the sun shines upon us again, man.

  23. Randy's avatar Randy says:

So I said injury was a concern when we re-signed Achane because of his stature and got told it wasn’t a concern.

Now that he got hurt it’s just bad luck? Sounds convenient. You can say “These things happen.” every time a guy is injured. It was a legitimate concern….and now here we are.

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

It’s Achane’s former lack of stature that had always concerned me, but only as it pertains to “overuse”. However, it’s clear that he wasn’t “overused” in this case.

Fact is, Achane is 5’9″ and 195 pounds today. It’s not like he’s DeVonta Smith at 6’0″ and 170 pounds… or Dri Archer at 5’8″ and 173 pounds.

      Sometimes shit happens, Brother.

  24. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    Now I’m wondering…

Is there a clear link to legalized PHDs, supplements, and creatine that negatively affects the joint health of athletes, making them more susceptible to the likes of ACL tears?

My guess would be YES, knowing what illegal steroids do to the human body.

This is something to delve into, IMO…

  25. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,

I’d bet money Achane isn’t 195. I’d bet more like 180 if he’s lucky. And he’s a RB. No comparison to WRs. They take a completely different sort of beating.

I’m bummed the young man got injured. It’s a year in his prime where we get zilch….and pay handsomely for it.

  26. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    M13,

Lol. I’m used to your heightened emotional state. It’s all good. I’m a football fan. I’m not a player fan. I’m a fan of any Dolphin player, but I can’t say I care much about any of them individually.

I think folks are being kinda naive about the possibility of a small, slim RB being an injury concern and spending big money on him. Every injury every year could be said to just be bad luck. I’m not sure that has any relevance.

I hope I’m not being too negative for you! It feels to me like I’m just being a realist, but I’m told otherwise. Lol

  27. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

One moment it’s we want the 1st pick or at least the top 5 for the glorious QB. Then we’re critiquing we should have done this or that. I’m looking forward to watching this team getting better not some dream draft next year. WTF?!!

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

We are all looking forward to watching this team get better. The next draft is part of this team getting better as well. Many of us like to talk draft no matter what time of year it is. You don’t like it, skip over it. WTF, it’s that simple.

It’s not that “we want” a top 5 pick, it’s unfortunately a very likely reality with this young team.

BTW, I don’t want us to draft a “glorious QB” with our first pick. I don’t think any of them are worth it. I think Willis is going to get better once the OL gels more. New QB in a new offense with rookie WR’s. We have to give that time as we are having some success early already.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

And you are welcome the feel that way. Just like those of us who have watched the 27 year old “rookie” and decided regardless of how he does we should invest in a YOUNG QB to develop, are entitled to feel THAT way.

I have no faith that a guy in his FIFTH YEAR in the league who is still being excused as a rookie is going to be a franchise leading QB.

We miss out on the whole “Young, cheep QB” phase because we will be paying a backup 20M per year.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

have at it and STOP criticizing the rest of us about how we are fans!

  28. Krishna's avatar Krishna says:

    Lol…wtf, Tim. Enjoy the ride!

  29. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    Tim,

I’m still giving Willis this year to prove himself. No problem with that. I don’t believe he’ll be more than a backup, but if he proves me wrong great…that’d be awesome for the franchise. I’m looking forward to seeing him against Flores’ defense this weekend.

It can’t just be blaming everybody else though. I see QBs getting chased around all the time in games. OL play in the whole NFL has gone downhill. Rookie WRs come in and play well all the time. RBs too.

For me, it’s not about finding some glorious QB….they all suck and are meant to be hit. Lol

It’s more about how valuable the pick(s) are we will likely be getting. A team HAS to take advantage of that value one way or another. It’s just such a huge advantage if you can get a high end QB….and the league gives you calls. Lol

  30. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

I was always worried about Achane’s durability, but this injury was a non contact injury. Shit happens. It’s not like we asked him to carry the ball 30 times and he was out of gas and got injured. I don’t think the type of injury he had was because he’s a slight RB. Guy grabbed his helmet and he took a bad step when his head got turned around

  31. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Vikings signed Guard Josh Priebe to their practice squad. Interesting since we play them this weekend.

  32. Randy's avatar Randy says:

He’s injured, and it’ll happen again after he comes back. Most injuries are joint injuries. Who cares how it happened? If he was bigger, he wouldn’t have been so easily twisted.

  40. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

    @TonyPauline

The situation for the Miami Dolphins is what many expected. But is the defensive scheme making things worse?? Several players believe this is the case.

    ————

I’m not even going to link to this garbage story, but I’ll give you this…

“Multiple players have privately complained that the defense should line up in more man-to-man coverage, as it fits the talent on the field.  Man coverage will also abate the team’s inability to get to opposing passers, and the players believe it will help significantly get the completion percentage down for the quarterbacks they face every week.“

So we have a very green secondary who are already second-guessing and knowing better than Coach Haf? Did Sully screw up the Draft, by drafting man-to-man DBs to play zone?

I do NOT buy this, not one bit… especially after only 3 games! Once a hack, always a hack. “Privately complained”? To who, you? And only you, Tony? These rooks must really trust you because you’re so special!

Anyway, if anybody hears any of these rumors, you’ll know who and where it came from. NOBODY else is reporting this, to my knowledge. Won’t be long till Mike Florio and Chris Simms run with this story, just to throw shade at Sully and Haf. SMH

Would be really nice if we had a QB that could read the blitz and take advantage of it.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Something tells me Flores is going to attack the right side of the OL.

We won’t stand a chance without some form of a run game.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Since leaving Miami, Flores has reestablished himself as one of the top defensive minds in the NFL and is arguably the best coordinator on that side of the ball currently. The Vikings are one of the most aggressive defenses in the NFL, owning a league-high 71% blitz rate. That’s helped them rank second in scoring, allowing just 13.7 points per game.

Malik Willis has the highest off-target rate (20.9) by a quarterback this season, and with the added pressure the Vikings are set to inflict on Sunday, the Dolphins signal-caller could continue to struggle with his accuracy. If that plays out, it’s hard to imagine Miami’s offense spending much or any time within spitting distance of the end zone or even field goal range

His accuracy issues are from throwing off his back foot and/or just slinging it while falling back. We will see much more of that this weekend.

      • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Everyone raves about his ability to sling it from any arm angle, but do not concede that his doing so negatively impacts his accuracy.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are trading cornerback Joey Porter Jr. to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick, NFL Network’s Jane Slater reported Wednesday evening.

I mentioned that we only have 52 players on the 53. That’s still the case.

That may be filled by Storm Duck. He was a limited participant in practice this past Wednesday.

It’s a maybe/maybe not thing. Wednesday also marked the start of his 21 day practice window so he is probably not ready to be activated and put on the 53 just yet.

They have until Oct 21st to put him on the 53 man roster. If not by then, he will go on season ending IR.

Even after missing a game, Caleb Douglas is #4 in receiving among rookie WR’s and rookie TE’s. Chris Bell is #7.

Looks like Douglas might miss another game though.

Paul Allen on my KFAN just said our leading ST tackler is Riley Patterson. Is that true? That’s insane.

  53. Randy's avatar Randy says:

    BBM,

Thanks. I’m not completely surprised because team’s with young/inexperienced teams tend to struggle on ST…but that’s crazy.

I noticed in the stats from the Chefs game that 3 of the 4 top tacklers were DBs and 2 were S(24 between the three). It’s never a good sign if your DBs and particularly your Safeties are some of your top tacklers. I know it’s a little different with how much teams throw in the NFL, but Mahomeister only threw 24 times.

Brooks led with 10 tackles and Stacheman was 5th but still. We gotta get better up front. That’s no bueno.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Definitely as 5 of the top 8 in total tackles on the team through 3 games are DB’s.

I don’t mind if the NB has a high number of tackles as he is up there in run support also. Chris Johnson has 20 total tackles with 2 tackles for loss.

    • bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Thumbstache is our leading tackler at 28 total with 3 tackles for loss. Brooks is next with 22 followed by Chris Johnson and Taaffe with 20.

Very interesting quirk so far this season. There are 5 undefeated teams, Miami has played 3 with a 4th this weekend. The one team they haven’t played or will play this week are the Buffalo Bills, who they still get to play twice this year. LOL

Edge Robert Beal Jr. (hamstring) DNP
C Aaron Brewer (hand) was downgraded to limited
    CB Storm Duck (knee/Achilles) limited
    LS Tucker Addington (shoulder) limited

STORM DUCK IS BACK! (well, counting down)

Damn! hard to snap the ball with an injured hand. I wonder if it IS his snapping hand?

Douglas DNP probably shows he is not playing this week.

I wonder if they will elevate Hunter this week at RB?

JEVON HOLLAND TAKES HOME NFC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE MONTH! 🔥 3 INTs, 2 forced fumbles and 2 fumble recoveries through just three games. Holland has been everywhere for this Giants defense.

Most INTs he had in a season with us was 2. Three games in, and he’s already broken his career high in a season.

Small sample size so far against 3 currently undefeated teams.

That said, he needs to make the plays that are there. The opportunities won’t be often and he has to execute when they are there and not miss those throws.

Right now, I would rank him in a range of 24 to 26 of the starting QB’s in the NFL. He needs to elevate another 10 or more spots.
