2026 Season – Game 4 – Dolphins @ Vikings

The Dolphins (0-3) travel to “The Land of 10,000 Lakes” to take on the (3-0) Minnesota Vikings. This will be only the 2nd time in NFL History that a team will have faced undefeated teams in their first 4 games of the season. The only other team to have done that was the 1986 Philadelphia Eagles. If you’re curious, the Eagles lost their first 3 games but upset the Los Angeles Rams at home 34-20 in Week 4. The Vikings defense has been an NFL best in points allowed through 3 games, allowing only 13.7 PPG. In contrast, the Dolphins have allowed 28.7 PPG and is 31st in the NFL. To make it worse, the Dolphins on offense are scoring 2nd to last at 12.0 PPG. The over/under is 38 points and unless you think the Dolphins are going to find themselves on offense, without RB De’Von Achane who is OUT for the season with a torn ACL, I’d bet the UNDER.

RB Jaylen Wright is trending towards healthy, and he will share the carries with RB Ollie Gordon. Gordon is averaging a paltry 2.4 YPC with 48 yards on 20 carries and 1 TD. Wright has yet to show the explosiveness and speed that was the allure that former GM Chris Grier couldn’t resist in the 2024 NFL Draft, Grier traded a 2025 3rd RD pick to get a 4th RD selection and take RB Jaylen Wright.Wright has not shown he was worth that trade, which is no surprise considering it was Chris Grier who traded up to get him. Grier might have the worst WIN percentage on Draft Trade Ups in the history of the league. I’m not going to bore you or anger you by citing each and every failure, you know them all too well. Wright will once again though have a chance to make Grier look better since RB De’Von Achane is OUT, and RB Ollie Gordon hasn’t done anything to solidify a starting spot. Let’s all hope Wright makes the best of the situation.

If you want to look at two units on the opposite end of the spectrum, focus on the Miami Dolphins defense and the Minnesota Vikings defense. As the broadcast team made quite clear last week against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Dolphins defense has yet to register a sack during the 2026 season. The Vikings, on the other hand, have 14 sacks already in the young season. OLB Dallas Turner leads the Vikings with 3.5 sacks, and here’s the thing that angers so many Dolphins including myself, OLB Andrew Van Ginkel is next with 3. Vikes have 8 players with at least 1/2 a sack, which is a stark contrast with a team who has no one. Hopefully that changes this weekend with a healthy Chop Robinson, yes that dirty, mean Chop Robinson who dared to touch Superstar QB Patrick Mahomes. DE Robert Beal has a hamstring injury and is likely OUT. DE Josh Uche or DE Malik Herring are going to need to give Chop some help to free him up to make a play or two. In addition to not having a sack, the Dolphins have also yet to force a fumble on defense. ILB Jacob Rodriguez would be the most likely guy to start the wave with his remarkable 7 FF’s last season at Texas Tech.

Despite the 0-3 record, we have seen some improvement. Besides the obvious lack of sacks on defense, and the generosity of the defense to opposing offenses, at times the offense has resembled a functional NFL unit. That will be tested heavily without RB De’Von Achane, but maybe RB Jaylen Wright finally comes of age. It’s a shame that WR Caleb Douglas is OUT, he brought some explosiveness to the offense, and Chris Bell, who is clearly not right yet physically has also shown promise, and I believe that if/when both of these players are healthy, our offense will be that much better. OC Aaron Brewer is dealing with a finger injury but my guess is he will suit up and play. The rest of the line is healthy, and RT Austin Jackson had a better game last week compared to his difficult showing 2 weeks ago. Rookie LG Kadyn Proctor continues to progress, and his pass blocking is a tremendous upgrade to what we had last season in LG Jonah Savaiinaea, who BTW has held his own at RG this season. LT Patrick Paul hasn’t been awesome, basically playing like an average LT, which is a bit disappointing because I think we all hoped he could be elite.

The Dolphins made some roster moves to try and improve the Special teams unit, they signed Cincinnati Bengals LB Shaka Heyward 6’3 238. Glad they recognize that the ST’s unit needs help and are addressing that. K Riley Patterson is 5-7 on FGA’s, and P Bradley Pinion has been worse. He had an awful fumble 2 weeks ago against the Niners when he dropped the ball when attempting to punt, and overall his work has been underwhelming. I’d say both the K and P are on thin ice and in danger of losing their jobs. On the bright side, Malik Washington has been very good both returning kickoffs and punts, and now that Jaylen Wright looks to be back, he will help on KR’s as well. The game of field position has been one we are losing, and when you have a young team that isn’t thriving on either side of the ball, it’s amazing how much a little boost from special teams can give the team. We have sustained some long drives on offense, but the points just aren’t there. Better field position can help there.

Per PFF, meeting the 50% minimum threshold of 189 pass-blocking snaps, Awful Austin Jackson is #62 out of 62 NFL Tackles in pass-blocking grade (41.7).

4 games, 4 penalties (trending toward 17 on the season). 4 games, 3 sacks (trending toward 13 sacks on the season). These numbers get players released and then unsigned as FAs… as in, your career is over.

I can’t stand hype and don’t believe the hype 99.9% of the time. But with THIS young man? ALL THAT, to date!!!

      I’m a believer in J-Rod!!! WOOOOOOO!!!

    • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Just remember, we were playing against backup players by the mid 2nd quarter on the blind side of their O-Line. Don’t want to take anything away from Chop or Uche, but that made their jobs much easier.

Looking ahead to next week, the Bengals can’t run the ball (#31 in the NFL to date), but they can THROW the ball (#5 in the NFL to date).

We’ve faced some very good RBs (we’re #15 in run-Defense in the NFL to date), but our Secondary will be tested come Sunday with Burrow, Chase, and Higgins.

I’m loving the resurgence at RB, with Bijan and Kenneth Walker last season and so far this season. I love RBs and TEs, and I dislike WRs. LOL

    • rich0322's avatar rich0322 says:

BTW, I really liked your draft too, BBM. We have several players that we both really like. For example, Ashton Hampton is definitely a player who has made my favorite list. Unfortunately, we will probably need 2 1st round picks to get him since a top-10 pick would be too early, and an early 2nd round pick will probably be too late.

  6. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Thanks Rich! The simulator doesn’t have RB Turbo Richard listed so I just plugged him in where I thought he might be available. He hurt his ankle in the 1st quarter vs NW and sat the rest of that game so in 4 games + 1 quarter he has 63 rush for 587 with 5 TD’s and 3 rec for 47 yards.

  7. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

While that may be true, it doesn’t exactly exonerate Malik’s piss-poor afternoon. And I see many on X dissin’ Chris Bell for stepping out of bounds (again, by a mere INCH!)… he’s a ROOK! And it may have helped if Malik placed the ball just a bit better.

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

M, Bell stepped OB on his own well before the pass was thrown, its all on him. Rookie growing pain? I think not, something he should’ve figured out playing pee wee football, if you recall Douglas didn’t get both feet inbounds PS1 (a play before his great catch)

some people are just unaware of their surroundings. Brian Hartline was the master of the sidelines, much less talent, but got the most out of what he had

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

honestly surprised they called the stepping out on Bell

I suspect that happens many times in games without being called

Kind of a dumb call – it’s not like he got an advantage bc one toe went out before he touched the ball

  8. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I just read that PFF had Proctor and Saviinaea as the second highest rated guard duo in the NFL

  9. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

the NFL has thrown more penalties flags this season through 4 games than ever

    it’s the record

that’s a horrible stat for the NFL

they need to limit the officials

they just had to suspend 2 nfl officials based on their conduct last week

they are giving officials way too much control of the game

100%, I mentioned signing the Rams starting RT Warren McClendon in free agency. He’s only 25yo. He was stellar last year after taking over at RT mid season for them. He’s struggling a little in pass pro this year though nothing like Jackson and is currently the 34th ranked OT out of 69. He shouldn’t cost too much. There are at least 4 OT’s I like who could play inside or outside who should be available with our 2nd or 3rd round pick.

    ————-

I certainly don’t feel that way, especially as it pertains to Malik Willis.

Malik is missing our greatest Offensive Weapon (OW: Achane), missing Caleb Douglas (Malik and Caleb developed good chemistry together), all while dodging Awful Austin’s missed assignments. Very difficult to assess Malik to date.

Ollie Gordon rose to the occasion on Sunday: PROPS to him (speaking of next man up)! And he did it against the vaunted Brian Flores Defense and their starters!

Now to our Defense… Chop looked good lining up over their RT: GREAT GAME for Chop! But you must excuse me if I don’t get excited about our successes coming against their left side O-Line, minus 2 (TWO!) starters. We’ve been there and done that on our O-Line!!!

There’s no reason Uche and company — as STARTERS — shouldn’t have dominated their 2nd string LT and LG. NOT taking anything away from our guys, just sayin’.

I’m the guy who usually makes excuses for OUR injuries (and EVERYBODY KNOWS IT!), not the injuries of the opposing team. Gotta grade on the level, and that’s NOT an excuse… it’s a FACT.

    BBM,

Seems the USSR never shut down their bio-labs, even after their collapse. The $$$ kept flowing to secret projects (in this case, Siberia), and after a 1979 incident where Boris Yeltsin (prior to his presidency) had originally covered up a similar incident, he finally confessed as President more than a decade later that they were up to no good.

Fast forward to Putin and Russia here in ’26, and it’s obvious they kept the program going. This one is pneumonic — not bubonic — in nature. Bubonic (“The Great Plague”) was carried by fleas, if memory serves. Pneumonic can be spread by a mere cough or sneeze in close proximity to another, as I understand.

Glenn Beck reported about this on his Monday show, and the world had better hope everybody close to the dropped beaker/vile or had contact afterward has been accounted for, contained, and quarantined. I think the woman who dropped the beaker/vile passed away within 48-36 hours (if reports are accurate and truthful) after developing pneumonia.

    NOT GOOD.

Jeremiah Smith, Chris Bell, Caleb Douglas, Malik Washington, and Kevin Coleman as our WRs next season?

WAAAAAY too early to call it right now, but you wouldn’t have to twist my arm today on Oct 6, 2026.

Malik as our QB (a year of getting to know his new Offensive players), Achane with a healthy return, draft an OT before day 3 of the ’27 NFL Draft, and find a QB before round 5 of the ’27 NFL Draft.

This message could self-destruct at any point during our current season. We’ll see what happens…

  21. mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Regarding whether to keep Kadyn Proctor at LG or a move to RT…

I feel he can and will be successful, regardless of his position. There’s logic on both sides of the convo, so I’m not sure there’s a ‘wrong’ answer.

Rolling with whatever our coaching staff thinks is correct… just get it correct, whether it be adding a RT or LG early in the ’27 NFL Draft. There’s more than one way to skin this cat.

The short story is everything I WANT to bring will not fit and hard decisions will be made. Less coolers, or no shade, or less chairs, or no grill.

Herd is getting an SUV rental so I think I will lay down the seat in the back temporarily and then move stuff into Herd’s vehicle for the trip to the stadium.

We have to work it out by tomorrow at the latest because I am packing the car in the morning to drive to Hollywood.

DT B.J. Hill (Achilles) was a full practice participant
DT Dexter Lawrence (wrist) was limited in practice

    S Kyle Dugger (quad) DNP

  30. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

I don’t think Douglas is back this week. He was a no go in practice today.

The Dolphins listed wide receiver Caleb Douglas (ankle), cornerback Reese Taylor (quad), linebacker Jackson Woodard (ankle) and defensive end Robert Beal Jr. (hamstring) as non-participants.

Wide receiver Chris Bell (knee), cornerback JuJu Brents (heel), defensive lineman Kenneth Grant (toe), right tackle Austin Jackson (knee), safety Dante Trader Jr. (shin) and long snapper Tucker Addington (shoulder) were all limited.

Cornerback Storm Duck (knee), who is still on PUP, was a full participant again.

    Honest question…

The trade deadline is a month away. Do you see us trading a vet for a future pick if we continue to be winless, or do you see us trading FOR a young buck who has become disenchanted with his current franchise?

    Maybe both? Maybe neither?

My take: I could see us trading Zach Sieler (I don’t wanna!) to a contender for a future pick…. and I don’t know what the return could be, or if it’s even worth it.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      he’s a strong vet presence

but we have a lot of young DTS

      • mf13ss's avatar mf13ss says:

Yeah, man. And once we get Grant back (this week?!), it’s going likely to push another DT out.

We aren’t trying to push young DTs out in this rebuild. So methinks it’s possible(?) we trade our favorite Zach Sieler for a future draft pick.

I don’t want the 1st pick in the draft. I hope we’re between 5-8. Pick the player you want, not the one you’ll be grilled about if you don’t take him. I think Malik is our QB next year too.

  39. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

If we trade anyone it will be someone under a 1 year deal who is playing well and not the future of this team.

    Joshua Uche

  40. bailbondmike's avatar bailbondmike says:

Speaking of trading. The Eagles are quietly “tanking” for 2028.

I mentioned months ago that they are tired of Jalen Hurts but they can’t move on from him until 2028. Their situation with him is much worse than our situation with Tua’s contract. They gave Hurts so much guaranteed money they will still have 54.4m in dead cap in Hurts last season in 2028.

The Eagles traded WR AJ Brown for a 1st round pick in 2028, not 2027.

The Eagles just traded their starting 2 time pro bowl Center who they just gave a 4 year extension to the Ravens for a 2nd round pick in 2028, not 2027.

Eagles are eliminating their dead money this year and next to set them up to reset and draft a new QB in 2028 with 2 1st round picks and 2 second round picks.

They aren’t really tanking as they are keeping their team where they can compete for the playoffs still. This is just smart GM’ing and why I liked the Eagles Asst GM back when we were searching for one.

Sully seems to be doing well so far.

    ————

The idea is to get more ammo for the ’27 Draft. Why Sieler? Because he’s playing for an 0-4 team (maybe he wants a shot at a ring?), he still has ‘it’, and he’s one of our only players who may fetch a late day 3 draft selection.

If we’re trying to develop a young core of stud players (see who got the extensions), Sieler’s on the wrong side of 30 years old.

It’s all a moot point after BBM mentioned his dead cap hit next year. Oops! My bad for not thinking about that fact, and for reading writers who are talking about trading Sieler.

Bucs are up 2 TD’s in the 4th quarter, 4th and 1 at the Cowboys 1 yard line they go for it and don’t get it. If you kick the FG, you are up 3 scores in the 4th quarter.

Now, Cowboys only down 14 points have the ball at their 1 yard line and drive all the way for a TD. Instead of kicking the extra point to be only down 7 they go for 2 points and don’t get it. Now they are down by 8 points.

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake rocked Panama about 2 hours ago. Hoping the damage and death toll is minimal as possible. Dayum, that’s a big one.

I’m looking forward to seeing Grant back in the DL rotation. He helps Phillips be more effective.

Same here, Tim. Let’s see how our young roster responds after an 0-4 start.

On Defense, J-Rod is balling, Chris Johnson is getting better every week, Uche has been a pleasant surprise, Chop seems to be getting into a groove, and the return of Grant should make things even better.

On Offense, we NEED TO SEE MORE in terms of growth. That’s where my focus will be on Sunday.

I just don’t see it with Arch!!! If not for the Manning name, he wouldn’t even be considered a top-10 pick right now. Don’t even mention Peyton; he’s not even close to what Eli was at this point in college!!!!

I’d also prefer either Mensah or Carr. It depends on what I see out of both in their game against each other and in the playoffs, which I expect both to be in.
