We here at Finsmob Unleashed have been wondering how many of you from all over including Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, California, Iowa, Wisconsin, Canada and other parts known and unknown have become Miami Dolphin fans. So we are encouraging all of you to write us your story on how you became a phins fan. Here is Hulk’s.
Every great Superhero have origins story. This is mine. Hulk was first exposed to gamma radiation on January 2, 1972 when 3 bombs went off in the Orange Bowl in Miami. Hulk was not quite 8 years old and the Miami Dolphins were playing in the AFC Championship game against a group of horsemen from the City of Baltimore. Miami just come off thrilling overtime victory versus Kansas City Chiefs in then longest game in league history. Young Hulk think it would be fun to see this team win. However, everyone tell young Hulk that no way could Miami win. The horsemen were defending Super Bowl Champions. They were led by great field general known as Johnny U – please do not confuse with Johnny Football. That would make Hulk angry. So Hulk thought there was no way that Miami could win.
Then early in 1st quarter the first bomb goes off. Bob Griese finds greatest wide receiver in Dolphins’ history, otherwise known as Paul Warfield, for 75 yard touchdown pass and Miami has early lead.

Score remain 7-0 in favor of Miami at half. Then in early in 3rd quarter 2nd bomb go off. This time it was Johnny U who threw deep ball in direction of Eddie Hinton but ball get tipped and some guy name Dick do impersonation of heat seeking missile and intercept ball. Then some guy named Dick not just go down but he turn and run with ball and his defensive team mates threw blocks like experienced offensive linemen and some guy named Dick returns interception for 62 yards and touchdown. Miami now have 14-0 lead and young Hulk getting excited that Dolphins will prove everyone wrong.

But Dolphins no done yet. The 3rd bomb goes off in the 4th quarter. Bob Griese once again finds greatest receiver in Dolphins’ history for 50 yard bomb. This put Miami deep in horsemen territory. Then Miami know what to do. They give ball to Zonk. Hulk like Zonk. Zonk do Hulk impersonation and smash his way 5 yards for game clinching touchdown. After Zonk scores Dick’s defense holds up for rest of game. (Hulk think Dick’s team mates changed name of defense the next season to No Name Defense so Dick no feel bad). Miami beats horsemen 21-0 in upset victory and go to Super Bowl. Young Hulk hooked on this improbable win and starts to feel the power of the gamma radiation.

But Hulk’s origins story not done. It was 2 weeks later in Super Bowl VI that Hulk first experience the anger and rage that caused by the gamma radiation. Miami go to play some Cowboys from Dallas and the Cowboys beat Dolphins bad by score of 24-3. With each score by Cowboys and missed scoring opportunity by Dolphins make Hulk get madder and madder. Hulk get angry, Hulk yell, Hulk scream, Hulk stomp, Hulk cry and Hulk smash. Hulk go into state of suspended emotional development because that is how Hulk react to every Dolphin loss ever since to this very day. But the next season the Hulk see the true power of the gamma radiation. Hulk see Miami Dolphins go 17-0 and crush all opponents on way to perfect season and Super Bowl win. Then Hulk see Miami Dolphins win the following Super Bowl and Hulk now knows the gamma radiation of those three bombs is what powered team to win and what make Hulk the Hulk. That is Hulk’s origins story, so what is yours?

Odrick has been an iron horse ever since his 1st year with the leg injury. Sucks we’re even contemplating letting him walk…he was a former 1st round pick too….SMH!
Something isn’t right with our coaching, I mean, Odrick, Wake disappearing, Vernon an off year, Mitchell not what he was in Houston, Jordan not getting any solid role…..
Oh, and Starks…a beast early in season, then fades….What is happening in Miami?
These talented players would probably rock elsewhere, we’ve seen it before!!!
GDP – Odrick played a lot, but didn’t really give us a lot of production
There has to be a reason why Mike. He doesn’t just suck.
I don’t what to say GDP. He played an awful lot (played a lot awful?) you’d think you’d get to the QB by accident a few times. 23 tackles and 6 assists is just underwhelming numbers. 1 FF, 1 FR. For all those snaps, you’d expect better than that. At least if we want to get better, you NEED better than that.
i am sure opening up in NE and the pats off their SB win the fins will play in a evenly called game.

GDP:
Odrick is nothing special. He hasn’t done jack for us. Let him walk. It would be a mistake to invest too much into a guy who has given so little production.
We’ll see what the market values him at.
but the other side of that is that you have to repalce him if he walks
and then we are using our resources to repalce guys instead of getting better
I would rather re-sign him to the kind of deal that has the biggest cap hit early so we can part ways if we develop some one better in a couple of years
unless we replace Odrick via FA
We can replace him in the draft.
Colts GM Ryan Grigson has been revealed as the league’s source in the “Deflategate” scandal.
According to NFL executive Troy Vincent, Grigson brought the issue to the league’s attention “some time during the second quarter” of the AFC Championship Game.
How much do you guys think Odrick will cost to resign?
Starks salary is 6M in 2015 but the dead money iof he is cut is only $1M (I think verify the numbers)
Its possible that resigning Odrick saves more cap room than keeping Starks
I don;t think either is that good that we can;t part with one of them
I don;t think its a good idea to part with both and open up a hole (or make it bigger)
I think it’s time to get better. Keeping guys who don’t get it done continues the mediocrity.
But just repalcing them doesn’t necessairly make you better either
You can keep guys and bring in better guys if you can manage the salary cap

So maybe some continuity with Philbin & Hickey is a good thing. Hickey needs to keep having good drafts to dig us out of that 6 year black hole that Ireland was a part of.
Mike, ya sure a draft pick comes in a replaces Odrick in year 1? The odds aren’t in favor of that at all.
If we replace Odrick & or Starks it needs to be with a vet FA, and hope our 2nd & 3rd year guys develop, like Francis, Johnson & Johnson.

I think we get better by replacing Odrick. He was a huge disappointment last season. He did squat in run defense and registered 1 sack. So I am not concerned about the fact we have to replace him. In fact I think it is a necessity to replace him. If we keep him to me that means we will not get better. I honestly think Fede could give us the same if not better production and we can still add some one in draft or FA.

We could draft Danny Shelton. Instant upgrade imo.
Piggy – Maybe it does make you better. 1 sack and 23 tackles is not replaceable but should be easily upgradeable, especially considering how many snaps he played. Draft Danny Shelton or Carl Davis and they can do better. You have to try. The problem with keeping the same players is you’re going to end up with similar results every year.
Piggy – Hickey did pretty well last year, and I trust him over anything Ireland has done. Odrick was just average at best. We need better, or expect to be 8-8 keeping the same players that let you down every year.
Think Starks will get less than he is due on paper this year ($5 mil cash value).
Think Odrick was good but not great, but at his age he will get more than Starks does.
Like Pig was saying, main concern is replacement cost.
300 lb + athletic DTs don’t fall from trees like acorns.
My guess is we renegotiate with Starks for less and Odrick is signed for Kendall Langford numbers to be a 3-4 DE.

I also want to say I am thrilled OD gave me an “OUTSTANDING” comment. OD is the resident team historian here and his review meant a lot to me.

Well I know Randy always asks if Tannehill was so good why didn’t he start at QB over McGee and company? Martellus Bennet also wonders why Tannehill wasn’t named the starter right away because he was the best QB on the team. Good interview:

I’m not insinuating that Danny Shelton will replicate Aaron Donald’s performance, but even if he does half, we’re ahead of the game, way ahead of the game, because we won’t have overpaid to keep Odrick
I don’t think we will overpay for Odrick, Mike; I think if we do re-sign him (which is my hope) then we will pay fair market value for him.
Fair market value might get all screwed up once 3-4 teams get involved offering top 3-4DE money.
Bri – If he ends up back in MIA, we will have overpaid. That’s the way I see it. He’s not worth 5-6M per.

He is a good player, but not great. A 4-3 DL doesn’t typically pile up the statistics; it is set up for the LB’s to make the plays, so the lack of stats may be a bit misleading.
I disagree. I don’t think he is that good. He under performs. We have seen him long enough. He is a mediocre talent. Not only can he be replaced he can be upgraded

Marcus Hardison had a monster year with Arizona ST. I like his size and reach for a DT. He’s a later round prospect.
I like Shelton a lot. Right behind Kevin White in my 1st round wants. I agree that we need better than Odrick and I have been a fan of his. The impact plays just aren’t there though. That’s also the reason White is so high on my list. Bring impact in the first and a couple more starters hopefully. If not, rotational players that see a lot of time. Philbin is out of time. He needs to speed up the progress.

New Age, I know I keep touting DGB a lot, but I really like WR Kevin White too, he’s a guy that has really grown on me, and I’ve always just cringed at another early pick from West Virginia.
But White is very strong, physical, and heads up on the field. He draws a lot of flags, and still gets his numbers despite a lot of constant dbl teams and poor QB play. He has a complete route tree for the most part, tracks the ball so well, and he’s a decent blocker. He’s kinda Julio Jones like.
I think White is the best receiver in the draft

What’s the d-line rotation? It would appear that Starks subs for Mitchell since Odrick’s snap count is so much higher than both. Do opposing offenses recognize the lineup on the d-line to be weaker when Starks and Odrick is in there than when Mitchell and Odrick are in there? I don’t know. Anyone have any ideas?

Did anyone here realize the Fins defense had more sacks (39) than the Seahawks (37) and more int’s (14) to (13). The Fins also had 2 int’s for td’s as did the Seahawks. Hawks bettered them on fumbles; 18 to 13.
Fins offense had 361 1st downs vs the Seahawks 328. Total offensive plays 1040 vs the Seahwaks 1021. Average yards per play on offense 5.4 vs Seahawks 5.9.
Ryan Tannehill was sacked 46 times; Russell Wilson 42.
Pts scored per game; Fins 24.2,Seahawks 24.6.
The difference? Scoring defense. Hawks only gave up 15.9 ppg; Fins 23.3
Fins defense gives up an average of 80 yds more per game than Seahawks split equally between passing and rushing. So, what’s our priority come FA and draft?
If Ellerbe doesn’t get hurt it could have been a different season. That’s the way I analyze the situation.
