Wedge Scouting Report: Ifo Ekpre-Olomu

Ifo4Wedge ID

In my galaxy they have a saying, “Ifo Elpre-Olomu” which means You are covered in a blanket.  Wow this cornerback can play!  The Ducks are not known for there defense but they have some very solid defensive prospects in this draft starting with Ifo.

Ifo6

The first time I saw Ifo play was in 2013 against Brandin Cooks, a WR who would be drafted by the Saints.  Cooks ate the opposition alive for most of 2013…until Ifo happened.  When Ifo happens, Ifo hurts.  Like Cooks, Ifo is a little guy standing 5’9 and weighing 195 lbs.  Don’t let that fool you, he will come up and make the big hit on the ball carrier.

Ifo5

Do the Dolphins need a CB?  Is he a good fit?  Well who knows what happens on the other side of Grimes in 2015.  Oregon plays a lot of off zone coverage, so on its face, it seems like Ifo might be a good fit.

SONY DSC

Ifo is quite the ball hawk/duck.  He had 9 career interceptions at Oregon.  Although undersized he has shown the ability to win the ball at the point of attack.  His speed and his instincts are probably his strength.  He can be an elite CB in the NFL, although some experts think he is best suited to play nickel – but I will submit to you that they always say that about little guys, so take it with a grain of Venus Worm Powder.

   Ifo1

One negative thing to be aware of is that Ifo tore his ACL in 2014 which caused him to miss the end of the season and the post season.  Then again Brent Grimes tore his Achilles Tendon in 2012 and managed to play at a pro bowl level for the Dolphins.  The injury might cause Ifo to fall to the 2nd round, maybe even later – he might end up being a steal to somebody.

Ifo2

If I was going to compare Ifo to an Alien Weapon of Destruction I would compare him to the Sticky Slime of the Zuryian Moon.  You can try to get it off you – but Ifo is stuck on you.

Mike E, this is for you…the other safety not named Holliman in Cards secondary.

NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah is high on Louisville junior S James Sample and believes he’s “a firm tackler.”
“Studying safeties..Really like James Sample from Louisville. Quick to read/fill & a firm tackler. I’m down on Holliman. 0 interest vs run,” Jeremiah tweeted. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Sample spent two years at the University of Washington and then left the program to play ball at American River College in California, before transferring to Louisville. In his only season starting with the Cardinals, Sample recorded 4 interceptions, 8 pass break-ups and a team-leading 90 tackles.

Williams won a peabody award for his work in New Orleans but now lies reagrding his reports are coming out from his Katrina coverage. Looks like he reported seeing dead bodies floating by in the French Quarter. The French Quarter never was flooded and remained dry, outside anything but the rainfall, which did not build up that high. It was the levies breaking that caused the flooding not the rains. He also said he got dysentery while he was there which a city health director who manned the station where Williams was reporting from and said they didnt see one case of dysentery during Kartina or the entire month afterward. Apparently they also have a few other reports of other stories he has told that are coming up untrue. Sounds like this dude is pathological.

Def not a quick read lol, but it was a really good article and it does show the rabbit hole some of these decisions or ignoring certain issues with people can take you down. I dont know how deep Brian Williams’ goes, but i can say, any sort of integrity you need to report the news is gone and he career as a result is most likely over.

Don’t know where you are getting this extra 3 mill from (there is 3 mill he will get if he’s on the roster in another month or so but that was never part of guaranteed money up front; it’s 2015 salary money and 2015 is not part of his guaranteed contract portion).

He was absolutely … well, I’m not going to say terrific … he was very good. So, please, everybody move on to the next thing. Find something else to talk about down there, it’s not the quarterback.”

  38. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

tanny can throw for 12,000 yards 74td 0ints and rush for 2000 yards but get sacked 74 times and the team goes 8-8 with the defense giving up a record 2274 points and randy will still blame the 8-8 and 71 of the 74 sacks on tanny.

i think he has played his card on what he thinks of tanny

  39. Randy's avatar Randy says:

Sims absolutely LOVES him some average QBs because that’s what he was. He’s also an ex QB, and they never rip another QB. Sims is a talking head.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

Not true. I’ve heard Sims on the radio refer to QBs as not being good enough saying the team needs to get better at QB. Just because you call Tanny average doesn’t mean it’s so. Also, I’m not sure what average even means? Who else is average?

  40. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

‘He’s also an ex QB, and they never rip another QB. Sims is a talking head.’

  43. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    tim

according to randy minnesota just have your average winters compared to alaska, now an oline that gives up 50 sacks is above average as long as the qb can be blamed for 37 of those sacks

    • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

We all seem to see it differently. There are plays where I say “oh great guys, way to block” when there are multiple defenders in the backfield within 2 seconds, yet Tanny didn’t weave through the maze and hit a receiver in that time frame. Oh okay. LOL

There is plenty of footage of Tanny sensing and escaping pressure and making big time throws. He also has well above average ability. Yes there are times he stays in the pocket too long and takes a sack. Every QB does that. Aaron Rodgers does it quite a bit. It’s called trying to extend the play because nothing is there. You can throw the ball away all day but you’ll also punt all day doing that.

We’re going to take a good amount of sacks because we pass a lot and we don’t have a stud OL. Hopefully we can improve in pass pro. I think the run blocking has been pretty good.

Tannehill is a good young QB, period. Is he elite or an all-time great? Well not now he’s not but I have no idea how high his ceiling is and nobody else does either. QB is not our problem though. He will be our QB for at least the next 3-4 years and we’ll see where we are then.

I’ve looked at some round rankings and have read up on and watched some videos of prospects, but I have no idea how we’ll approach this draft yet. The combine and pro days and then FA will sort a lot out. Nobody is rising or falling in the draft right now unless they have an injury or off the field issue. Stanger, Home doesn’t just give me shit, he’s said some pretty nasty stuff about a lot of people here. That actually bothers me more than what he said to me. I don’t care what he says about me. It’s what he brings to the table – repetitive posts about who on the Dolphins suck (Tannehill) while insulting as many people as he can along the way. Oh yeah and telling everyone how he predicted everything that’s ever happened. LOL

There are a lot of reasons we’re muddled at the .500 mark. Our QB is ascending and I for one am not concerned about Tannehill. I see other areas that concern me for us to get over the hump. I look at the team at year’s end for what it is, not to look for people to blame and criticize. We’ll see how the team addresses FA and the draft to tell us what they think is an issue. It won’t be looking for a new starting QB. 🙂

  62. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Randy is right in a way. A lot of Tannehill’s improvement is due to the ultra conservative short passing game. He’s right that it’s difficult to throw INT’s when you’re throwing 5-10 yard passes most of the time. I also know what he means about Tannehill carrying the team. He’s not at that point yet, where he can do whatever it is we need him to do score points and bring us back from a big deficit. Maybe this year.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

The conservative passing game that came into use due to the play of the OL?

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

Nothing wrong with the first part!

He may not ever be able to do the second?
      We will see!

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

D-Bolt – Not the way I see it. I think that was the plan all year, not just after the injuries. In fact, the game against NE we saw more deep passing, and our line was in a shambles that game. I guarantee you if you look game by game, is avg YPA is about the same the whole year.

    • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

I’ve said all the same stuff. But Randy says it in a way that’s demeaning. Tannehill is a lot better than Randy thinks he is. LOL

Joe Montana and Tom Brady played the same way – short high percentage passing game and take your shots. Tanny does that too, it’s just not always to Wallace. Even when he hits Wallace for 50 it wasn’t prefect and it should have been a TD. You have to remember what’s going on in protection when he delivers the ball too.

We better get better in the trenches on both sides of the ball or it will be more of the same.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

The not carrying the team is a crock of shit also. No he can’t walk on water, but I’ll tell you this, the running game is non existent until he carries the football and is a threat & did s he of a job controlling the passing game also. Oh they run a short quick passing game that’s why he doesn’t throw picks. Oh guess what? Those fat fuckers upfront were graded as the 31st in pass blocking efficiency in this short passing game. You know what that means???? The offensive line is fucking deplorable.

  63. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

when you’re throwing 5-10 yard passes most of the time.

you mean like that guy who deflates the balls in NE.

not comparing tanny to brady just the same game plan with a much better D and o line

  64. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Wyo

I think you know what I mean. The game against the Ravens for instance. The defense had it’s issues, but we couldn’t capitalize on offense and make it a game. Hopefully next season he can do that.

  65. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

but of course brady wins SB when he makes those great interceptions with the time running out. got to admit brady made a great move on that ball to pick off that pass. never knew he had that in him.

The O-line had it’s solid moments. I thought we started off the season protecting pretty well. I’d say it went bad when Albert went down, but I don’t think it was as bad as you’re making it from the start until Albert got hurt.

We also have to remember this isn’t a veteran team that has won with a lot of experience. This team is trying to get good. But because the recent past hasn’t been good it’s all related and has to change again. That’s been our pattern for 15 years.

We hire a new HC and finally draft a QB in the 1st rd since 1983 and in 3 years, nope… not good enough, let’s try again. It’s insane. You would think this team is 4-12 every year.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

It’s also why I don’t understand how a lot of the people complaining about the protection don’t see a need to go O-line early. You wait until the 4-7 RD, that guy most likely isn’t going to help your team this year, plus, we really should hedge our bets with Albert, and IMO, stop counting on Turner. We kinda did that with Dallas Thomas, and it didn’t work too well. I know Tuner isn’t Thomas, but Thomas know what to do, just doesn’t have the strength to do it, while Turner has the strength, but doesn’t really know what to do yet.

FWIW Phil Simms is one of my favorite non-Dolphin players of all time. Everyone should play the game as hard as he did. Not the flashiest or best QB to play the game but he found ways to win and played big in big games.

D-Bolt – Not the way I see it. I think that was the plan all year, not just after the injuries. In fact, the game against NE we saw more deep passing, and our line was in a shambles that game. I guarantee you if you look game by game, is avg YPA is about the same the whole year.
    *
I see it completely different. If you actually go back and look at the games, they went to the short passing game whenever the OL was at a severe mismatch vs a DL. The numbers per pass attempt are skewed by early season numbers also. We were trending upwards after the Chargers game it started to fall apart again. The Minny game was the highest YPA in the second half of the season.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

Dbolt is correct. Tanny’s YPA rose significantly during the year. Affter the first few games his YPA was around 5, it may have even been under and then it started to climb significantly.

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

He was a rollercoaster D-Bolt. Up down and all around. Don’t you remember he was struggling in the 1st half of every game. Then they finally fixed that. Then he had trouble in the 2nd half. It doesn’t matter, he is definitely improving, and he’s one tough mother. I’ll take him as my QB any day. I still think there’s plenty of room for improvement though.

      • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

I really didn’t see that. I saw the offense in general in a majority of games struggle to get into the flow. This was play calling, running game, & passing game. It always seemed to take a few drives before the O got into the flow.

I think Scherf is top 10 for sure, and Collins may go right after Scherf. I wouldn’t have a problem if they got TJ Clemmings or Andrus Peat. Peat would be great at RT if James had to start at LT w/Albert out.

    • Ken's avatar Ken says:

I think one of those 2 will be around at 14, not both. I like both of those guys because I think they are versatile and can play OG or OT. I actually think Collins might be the better of the 2 even though Scherf is rated a little higher.

      • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Collins is good because we can move him inside once Albert comes back. I want that 1st pick to play every game.

  75. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

so if i got this right. the coaching staff went to a short yardage passing game cause that is what best suited the talent of the team but the coaching staff sucks cause they dont know how to coach the talent of this team.

  76. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Dbolt:
I like Turner as well but we still need another OG and a backup plan for Albert although by all reports he is rehabbing really well.

  77. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

you realize saying tanny struggled in a half here or there is pretty much every qb. did you not see brady struggle for 3 qtrs of the sb then have 1 good qb. look at the denver game, manning did nothing till coyle went to that vaunted 2 man pass rush.

maybe i just dont pay attention to enough detail in games but i rarely see any qb play great for 4 qtrs.

  78. Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

Mike E, you know I have no problem going OL early because I think you build around your QB and anyone who thinks we’re changing directions there anytime soon isn’t paying attention. You have to protect him first and foremost.

That said, I would like to see us add a special impact player on offense or defense at #14, but I won’t lose my mind if we go OL. It doesn’t have to be at #14 either, 2nd rd is okay too. LOL

The time is now, we have the QB, protect him and execute a solid running game and not have to rely on a lot of scheme to do it. That and repair the defense. It’s not a blowup situation and we’re not trading Wake on our way to doing that, it makes no sense. Build on the good players you already have and let average walk. Don’t trade your best and then expect to win.

I’ve read here, we should re-sign Odrick, release Starks, re-sign Shelby but trade Wake. I’m not seeing how that makes us better?

  79. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

did ‘balls to omars face’ struggle for all but a min of the first half before the D decided to quit for the second half?

    • Tim Knight's avatar Silly Tim says:

I really hate that word quit. I think they were worn down. So does Jason Taylor but he’s just a talking head who would never say anything bad about a defensive player. LOL

Seriously though, we were depleted and some young players couldn’t stay on the field to help with depth as the season wore down. We had a lot of players on both sides of the ball on IR. I hope our fortunes are better in 2015.

  80. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Yes FFR – I do. There were times early in the season the defense kept us alive, because Tanny really struggled in the 1st half. We know that didn’t last long, because at some point, we sprang a leak on defense.

  81. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Tim

No doubt. We don’t have to spend #14 on the O-Line, or maybe not even our 2nd pick, but we better get a good OL in the 3rd or it could be bad, if we don’t go O-line with either of our 1st two picks.

and good and so that makes tanny just like every other qb in the league. brady struggles, manning does they all struggle at times during a game. so what tanny does too.

all my point is in my opinion tanny is the least of problems on this team. a def with a back bone, a better then average oline, a domination/reliable wr, and ok a coaching staff with some balls too would help. stop coaching to not lose

  84. Ken's avatar Ken says:

66% completions 4,000 yards passing, better than 2-1 TD to int ratio, I don’t care if he didn’t throw ball past the line of scrimmage those are still impressive numbers and he did throw ball downfield a little bit more than you guys make it out to be. Every QB has ups and downs in a game. Favre notoriously struggled early in a game, several other guys were like that as well. However, the numbers reflect that he didn’t struggle all that much except when the pass rush was coming thru the OL like a sieve and even the kid hung tough. QB is not an issue for us.

  85. Ken's avatar Ken says:

    Dbolt:
I had not heard that about Collins. I really like his versatility. We could really use an OL like that.
