The Porcine Oddyssey #91: “SUH-denly”

THE PORCINE ODDYSSEY #90:  SUH-DENLY

AccousticPiggy

I know there are a lot of opinions on whether the Dolphins should have signed Ndamukong Suh, especially given the price tag.  So I wrote this little ditty to put it in perspective.

PIGGY BEGINS TO PLAY HIS GUITAR

(singing)

I used to think that free agency was just a fairy tale
After that Mike Wallace contract and after Wheeler and Ellerbee
But if I had to do it all again, I wouldn’t change a thing
‘Cause somehow Aponte found cap room to sign and Pay Suh’s fee

InsertBradyHere1

(singing)

SUH-denly, oinks have new meaning to me
There’s piggies up above
And players that can change the way you play D
You wake up and SUH-denly, you’re a dominant defense

InsertBradyHere2

(singing)

Suh, you’re everything a Dolfan could want and more
One thousand tackles are not enough to oink how much I hate Brady
And now you’ve come to this sunny shore
Never felt like this before, now go kill Brady

InsertBradyHere3

(singing)

SUH-denly, oinks have new meaning to me
There’s piggies up above
Tom Brady will need a nurse to help him pee

You wake up and SUH-denly, you’re a dominant defense

NFL: Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions

(singing)

Each day I squeal
That Tom Brady won’t play another game

InsertBradyHere5

(singing)

SUH-denly, oinks have new meaning to me
There’s piggies up above
potential damage to Brady’s organs makes me say Weeeeeeeeeeeeee

You wake up and SUH-denly, you’re a dominant defense

InsertBrady6

(singing)

SUH-denly, oinks have new meaning to me
There’s piggies up above
Suh, I want you end this cheaters career, pleeeeeeeeeeeeease

You wake up and SUH-denly, you’re a dominant defense

SuhGonnaEatYourLiver

(singing)

There’s piggies up above
And Suh is gonna eat your liver
You wake up and Suh-denly, you’re a dominant defense

first——I remembered last night about a incident where the Bills players had to wear Dolphin helmets because they had their helmets stolen out of the OB locker room the night before game. I forget how many but it was a lot. The Dolphins gave them practice helmets and they put buffalo logostickers on helmet for game. Of course Shula knew nothing about it.

Bills owner helped Joe Robbie tremendously with financing JRS and Joe thanked him numerous times during the opening game ceremony with Chicago. I believe we played Buffalo that year in the pre-season. Troy Stratford cemented his position on the team with a kickoff return for td.

  2. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

What a foolish foolish foolish salary cap mistake
Suh will be due an $8.5 million roster bonus on the fifth day of the league year in 2018. If he gets that,it’ll be a good bet he remains on the team that year and will be scheduled to make $16.95 million in base salary. His cap number in 2018 is scheduled at $22.085 million.

In 2019 his base salary is $18.95 million and his cap number is at $24.085 million.
In 2020 his base salary is $18.36 million and his cap number is at $18.36 million
    Welcome to salary cap hell

    *

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Damnit the whole thing didn’t post now it’s out of order
His base salary in 2015 will be $985,000 so the cap hit this year will be $6.085 million.

His base salary in 2016 will be $23,485,000. That plus the prorated signing bonus number of $5.1 million will make his ’16 cap hit a whopping $28.585 million.

This base salary in ’17 is $9.985 million so his cap hit is scheduled to be $15.085 million.

The base salaries this season, next season and in 2017 are fully guaranteed.

  3. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

How the fuck you take a 28 million dollar cap hit in one year?????

  4. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

It is too bad that when the front office get swept out the door we’re going to be stuck with this stupid contract

  5. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Next year big fat Suh Eats 18 percent of our salary cap

  6. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

    Next year
    SUH – 18M
    EVERYONE ELSE 125 M (2.4m Per player)
Might as well fire them all right now. Goodbye Tannenbum, Goodbye wiki, Goodbye Aponte Goodbye Philbin

  7. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Even if the salary cap goes up 10 million dollars next year That is only an additional $200,000 per player to spend On non Suh players. I don’t care who you are or how you structure it That is not maintainable

  8. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Understand your concerns, Rock, but I will make 2 points:
    1. It emphasises maximizing the draft
    2. They’re banking on the continuing growth of the cap limit going forward (which is also troubling, as it somewhat double mortgages the future- but it hurts my head to thank about, and I don’t want to.

    • Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

You can choose to not think about it if you want. But even if the cap goes up 20 million dollars next year Which I doubt, that only leaves us 2.78m per player average to spend on the rest of the team……. I know you said you don’t want to but think about that for a minute

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

It’s obvious you have not been reading any of my posts, which is your right, because if you had you would know I was one of those on here pointing out the cons of signing Suh. I am aware of most of the implications his signing has for this team going forward, including all of those you have mentioned, so your condescension is misplaced.

  9. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Good luck creating a roster With a 2.6 million dollar average

  10. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

This has to be the stupidest Free agent mistake in the history of the franchise

  11. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Ok my solo rant is over For this morning

  12. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Well almost over, let’s see how excited everybody is about the signing the next several years when we cannot re-sign our own free agents or pay any new free agents to come there will be no second contracts with this salary cap situation don’t get attached to any players don’t buy any jerseys unless its a Suh jersey because we cannot afford to keep anybody else

  13. Rockphin's avatar Rockphin says:

Even if you maximize the draft With an impossibly high hit percentage rate say 5 starters per year ( which nobody in the history of the league has ever done in consecutive years) you cannot maintain a roster.

  14. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Rock

    The salary cap is 143m
Just a year ago it was 133
    And 2 years about 123

It’s going up at about 10m a year
By 2018 it will be about 170m a year
You won’t wince at a 20m cap hit

We take that big cap hit next year
But you do you contracts just like Suh
With a small cap hit in year 1

This is not a handcuffing cap hit

NICE WORK, PIGGY. Rockphin has a legit worry on the cap hit issue, especially if Super-Suh gets injured and can’t perform up to his old self. But I think EVERY DOLFAN is thrilled to have this suhperstar on OUR roster. My biggest worry is NOT the cap hit. My biggest worry is “Do we have a coaching staff in place that can turn our talented roster into a TEAM OF PLAYOFF WINNERS?? –Philbin and his assistants STILL have to “SHOW ME!!” –So far, they have NOT.–HOPEFULLY, this is the year they DO “SHOW ME!!”

  17. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Rock

I just want to say this bud, maybe this will help put things in perspective for you.

When was the last time this team had the best player at their position? Forget special teams, likes kickers and punters, I mean the 22 positions on offense and defense. Suh is the BEST DT in the NFL. The best player at any position is expensive, but we have that guy, rather a few decent ones, we have the BEST. He’ll make everyone on that defense better.

    • jetsssuck's avatar jetsssuck says:

we have a chance to become the best defense ever. If we draft to Coyle’s desire I believe we could become the best Defense ever with the development of Dion Jordan as DE/OLB.

yrs ago I used to camp out (party)in the everglades with friends and when you go out of the cabin on the porch at night you could see all the small alligators below the porch and hear the horny males mating calls. You would occasionally hear alligators fighting

Never mind – I got my phone so I could watch the video. I think that’s what Suh sounds like when he gets close to the QB. lol

  23. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Why haven’t the Bills made that anticipated offer to Clay yet?

    Have they?

    What is the offer?

  24. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

@AbramsonPBP: Tannenbaum says he’s had “number of disagreements” with Hickey & Philbin, but that’s normal. They get in room & come out with best decision

  25. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

So Jordan Cameron was in for a visit? Hopefully that visit included a series of CT scans of his head, and an MRI of his brain, to see if it’s not all scambled. Talented player, probably better than Clay actually, but he can’t stay on the field, and like I’ve said before, his next concussion is probably his last, and he’ll be out of football.

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Like I said it could be like the case of Owne Saniels where he’s fine. A lot of these players who are out of the league after multiple concusions typically had concussion issues from HS & college, so there’s a good possibility he turns out fine. He took very limited hits in college also as he was a basketball player primarily.

For those that think Suhs signing is only about money go listen to the interviews. Smart articulate guy, has an engineering degree when most athletes go sociology or comm degrees, basket weaving. He is very true to his family who seem like awesome true american dream type people. I liked him as a player before watching those interviews but I’m only more convinced in our signing after getting a glimpse of him as a person.

That endorsement by Warren buffet rings big with me too. Buffet is a master businessman and they make a living off spotting not just the right companies to invest in but the right people to bank on. I don’t at all think just because buffet is from Nebraska and Suh played for Nebraska, Buffet would have taken the time to mail Ross with a character reference was Suh not a really dependable and hardworking person who was a good enough human specimen to get his endorsement.

Im very impressed at this point and I think any intelligent strong charactered person such as he us, would choose a place to invest himself in just based on the few extra millions he could get. At some point the quality of life came into it and he felt strongly that the Dolphins offered that along with the money he was looking for.

I’ll say too if you aren’t impressed with the passion Ross has for our team. You are blind and likely not Hunan. Sorry piggy. The guys nay not know all the ins and outscof football, I’d guess he has never played the sport, but he lives it, and he love our team. Hate him cause he is rich hate him because of the council he keeps but don’t deny that he loves the team because that shit is in your face evident.

  37. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Look at the 7th pic down

Look at Suh’s tenacity as he is sacking the eagles QB (Vick?)
Look at the angle of his body!

    That’s a football player!

  38. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Also
After watching a ton of Suh highlights
I am sure the happiest person outsie of Miami about Suh’s signing is Jay Cutler
He used to kill that guy!

  39. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Nice job piggy. Thanks for the laugh.

BTW suh had one of his worst games against the pats last year. Lets hope he can change that.

  40. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It sounds like DeMarco Murray is going to end up in Philly.

  41. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

    piggy,

Huzienga went to playoffs as an owner a few times. Ross hasn’t sniffed it yet. So to me Huzienga was a better owner.

    • D's avatar D says:

Huzienga is why we are where we are. Despite having a ready made team, and DAN FREAKIN MARINO, when he took over, look at what his actions led us to. Ross is making up for the shit Huzienga did to the Phins.

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

give me a break Huzienga is not the reason we are where we are. Ross has been the owner for the last 7 years. That’s plenty of time to put a winner on the field.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Bullshit
      Huzienga bought a playoff team
and a team that was annually winning
then set us on a course of Wanny, Cam Cameron, Nick Saban and Parcells
Take a look at the drafts from that era
Take a look at what we did to better the team

Don’t shit on the kitchen floor, sell the house, then blame the new owner for having shit on the kitchen floor when he tries to clean it up

Ross bought a frnachise that Huzienga significanly downgraded

Huzienga shit all over the Marlins too, so this isn;t unique to the Dolphins

      • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

he’s been owner for 7 years with 0 playoffs. Ross has done NOTHING so far. zilch. nada.

  42. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Rock will love this. $28m cap hit next year.

“His base salary in 2016 will be $23,485,000. That plus the prorated signing bonus number of $5.1 million will make his ’16 cap hit a whopping $28.585 million.”

  43. Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

    Piggy

The leg whip sack of Cutler was particularly violent. It sure seemed like he didn’t like Cutler.

  44. dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

The thing that I like about Suh is the non stop aggression. For years we’ve watched this team not swarm to the ball. We’d see one guy wrap up a ball carrier and the other defenders just stop and watch as the ball carrier gains an extra 4 or 5yds until they finally fall. That won’t happen with Suh, dude will run the length of the field to nail someone. This defense needs to feed on that aggression and quit the passive play.

    • D's avatar D says:

Seems to have a real on off switch for a characteristic that is really necessary in football, especially in the trenches. Nice as can be, quiet, reserved and soft spoken off the field but on it, a very pissed off bear of a human being.

  45. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Ross even said it himself yesterday. That he’s done nothing yet because they haven’t won anything yet with him as owner.

    • D's avatar D says:

Thats called drive dude. Thats what pushes him to make these kind of signings, to push for advanced analytics and science to help the team lead the way not fall behind. He is owning the fact he doesnt feel satisfied with what he has given us so far, you guys really need to cut the dude some slack.

  46. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

“I was not being condescending to you at all, or at least that was not my intention.”

I hadn’t been awake long and probably over-reacted. Cheers.

  47. D's avatar D says:

Im convinced some of you like to be disappointed lol…. Dont do anything, not trying hard enough, make a bold move, omg he set us back 100years. Sheesh,

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I just want to be in the playoffs. I don’t care how we get there. The packers and the steelers don’t make a splashes every year but they get in the show every year. The only thing Ross knows is to spend money. I admire him for that but we know in the NFL you can’t just spend money. It takes a lot more than just money,.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

The steeler spend almost all their cap money each year
Rothlisberger had a 18M cap # for 2014 by himself
        Lawrence Timmons has over 12M

The difference between Packers and Steelers is that they re-sign their guys for this money b/c they draft well

        We haven;t drafted well

So we bring in outside guys

Spending money in the NFL works

The temas with the lowest spending are usually losing teams
The teams in the postseason have spent a lot

This idea that spending is a bad thing int he nfl is a myth

You just have to spend the right way ont he right players

ideally, you draft players, liek the Steelers ansd packers have, and know who they are, and keep them

But are the Dolphisn in position to do that?
        No
They simply did not draft well
So then what do you do?
Of course you have to bring in outside free agents

Do not buy into this silly fanatasy that spending int he NFL does not work
Some people sim ply have a lot of animosiyt about free agency
some pople hate to see young athl;etes paid as much as they receive

        but spending does work
You just have to do it right

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Not aimed at anyone in particular but every fan base has those who are like Randy Quaid from Major League II

  48. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    Boulder

You blame Suh for that 34-9 loss

Scoring 9 points might have a little something to do with that loss….lol

    Belicheat didn;t take him out
The Patrtriots ran the ball far less against than against anyone else
    belicheat avoided Suh

The Cheats ran the ball 20 times in that game
Brady threw the ball 53 times

and this is a cheats team that ran the ball a lot in 2014

They actively avoided running at the Lions b/c of Suh
He made that team one dimensional

The rest of the Lions team failed not Suh
Belicheat game planned around Suh and it worked

But suggesting that Suh had a bad game is simply false

    here is the box score
    http://www.nfl.com/gamecenter/2014112306/2014/REG12/lions@patriots#menu=gameinfo%7CcontentId%3A0ap3000000434866&tab=recap

Most of the time when you cause a team to become one dimensional, the results will be much better
I hope we can force Brady to throw the ball 53 times next season
Chances are we will have better results

    • BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

I’m not saying anything different. Belicheat neutralized suh in that game. Which is what you’re saying.

      • D's avatar D says:

Then its not a bad performance by Suh, its a great performance by Belichick.

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

        He didn;t neutralize him
he planeed around him and took adavatge of the other weak points of the Lions

You said he had a bad game – he didnt
Their offense had a bad game
their secondary had a bad game

        He didn;t exploite Suh
        He avoided him

  49. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Ross became an involved owner in 2011 when he went after Harbaugh. Before that he stayed behind the scenes with Parcells running the show. As he learned more about the game he’s been trying to rebuild this organization.

  50. TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

Ross as an owner- I’m not as high on Ross as Piggy, but no where as angry as OD. But I do question his structure, as I have repeatedly, and I question the whole Orange Carpet” BS that I think turned a lot of people off, including many of the diehards. I also won’t give him a pass because of what Huizenga left him, though I am no fan of his, either.

    • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I had completely forgotten about the Harbaugh/Sparano debacle in the above, which also does not help to endear him to the fan base, though I did like that he ess willing to try and get the “best available guy”.

    • D's avatar D says:

Its not a pass its saying if you walk into team thats already in good shape, your are going to have success, you walk into a team thats in complete disarray, its going to take time to get shit straight and moving in the right direction again. As Tim pointed out, he has slowly gotten an idea of how things go and gotten more and more involved as an owner, he is now kind of understand how things work and is starting to move pieces around and get things in order to build what we all want. With where Huzienga left us, that was no small task, and if he didnt love and care about making the Phins winners again, he could have sold and moved the fuck on from this headache, and instead he chose to delve deeper.

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

All of that is fine, but he is still an absentee owner, or at best an owner-by-proxy, and I can not think of a successful team in the nfl that has an owner that does not spend more time at the home office than they do at their other endeavors.

  51. D's avatar D says:

Slight subject change but none the less important….Has Clay been offered yet?

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

Supposedly the offer is supposed to be made today, but Cleveland is in the mix. If Jordan Cameron checks out medically, I would expect he signs today or Clay breaks off negotiations to comeback. Either way Id expect resolution sometime today.

  56. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I wish people wouldn’t look at money spent and say “that was bad”
I wish they would look att he product purchased

I guess some people go to the grocery store
look at their bill afterwards and say “all this food tastes like shit because I spent so much”
but the reality is the only thing that makes the food taste like shit is shitty food
    not the costs of it

Judge the Suh signing by the product, not the price tag

    • Mike E.'s avatar Mike E. says:

Piggy – I think most people complaining about Suh aren’t complaining about Suh the player, just the price tag and they’re complaining about not being able to get any other players. Kinda like telling your brother who lives in a $3000 a month apartment in Manhattan, and bought a Ferrari F40, and now can’t afford to eat that he made a mistake. lol

      • TryPod's avatar Try Pod says:

I tried to explain this and erased it all, but it did seem to me Piggy presumes a certain level of production that he can not know because of what Suh did previously, which came under different conditions. I know that is how all players are evaluated, but to dismiss the effect of that cost to the production of the overall endeavor.. respectfully Piggy. I just don’t get the sense you consider it even worth thinking about.

If Suh brings the defense up to a championship level, I don’t think anyone will be complaining. If the rest of the defense still looks like shit at the end of the season, heads are gonna roll. I think Suh changes the dynamic of the defense big time, but in the next couple of years, we’re going to see how difficult it will be to pick up other players outside of the draft.

I guess I’m just trying to say no matter what he brings to the team, there is a cost, and that cost may likely be worth it, but it’s also possible that cost may keep us from making changes/additions that also contribute to the overall success. Maybe we get 2 more wins, become a playoff team, and can’t afford to get that next piece that gets us to the championship game…

Mike E. I have heard from a lot of evaluators that they feel that if Holliman and Tartt were combined it would be the best safety prospect that has come out in a LONG time and that both of them are adequate in the areas they are weakest. I wouldnt mind either on our team, and i have been pimping Tartt since early early on. I think the best “fusion” of the two is Cody Prewitt though, so there are three guys at our around rounds 2-3 that can be start right away guys i think. We could use Aikens is kind of the Jimmy Wilson role, and let him play both S and CB in certain packages.

  76. Also, our defense was terrible last year – we need LBs, CB & Safeties and oh yeah, our offense was impotent so where are the playmakers/scorers? We need a solid OL – Tannehill has yet to have one.

  77. Rhino's avatar Rhino says:

quick comment due to spring cleaning 😦 : If Bills go above 7 mil for Clay, move on. Clay had big plays but I think we might be too emotionally attached in that we exaggerate his value in light of actual production. Sims and Chandler (from Bills) provide some big targets at a more affordable price. I’m not gonna agonize Clay if Bills offer ridiculous contract… he’s good, but he’s not elite. “Good” has a price limit, imo.

Nice job piggy. Thanks for the laugh.

BTW suh had one of his worst games against the pats last year. Lets hope he can change that.
    ———-
I saw that game from start to finish and the Patriots dominated by going spread and abusing the Lions secondary and LB cover schemes. They were going with quick hitters often which neutralizes the pass rushers of course. That was their plan all along to just throttle the Lions defensive weakness -> coverages.

Oh and Pro Football Focus gave Suh a pretty good grade in that game 😛

      • We have NO depth on this team and I do not think spending so much money on one guy is the answer. No doubt Ross will and has paid whatever he can to try and help but let me point this out – the Patsies are notoriously cheap and just won the Super Bowl — great coaching and Tom Brady won not $$$ spent on top FA(s).

      • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

It’s like that for all teams.

  82. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

i dont like the suh signing cause it seldom works. very few times does giving someone that much money do they still have the same hunger and desire.

as far as the injury, that has nothing to do with how much you pay someone. if suh signed for five dollars he could still get injured.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I have my concerns about the cap implications going forward, but it’s got absolutely NOTHING to do with the idea that he’s going to tank now that he got paid. The signs aren’t there. Coming off a small contract? No. He made 25M coming out of college. Did he tank getting paid coming out of college? No. He excelled in spite of getting paid. Did he come from a background where money ruins people? No. He came from a background where money comes along with success, and success was always the goal.

Was he a one year/contract year wonder? No. He’s impressed every single year in the league. He’s a future HOFer if his health holds up, and btw, he’s got a damn good track record for staying healthy. Guys like that don’t tank because they got paid.

Injury is always possible, and that is the only thing that scares me.

  84. FFR: True about injuries — my point was you cannot predict anything we signed some big FA in the past few years who never played a down in the reg. season or at all cause they got injured. Why spend so much on one guy? Yeah he is a great player but we have many needs – just my opinion.

    Rock;
I share your concerns and voiced my opinion about that the other day. I also am excited to see Suh play. He is the best at his position and it was a position of need. The question will be how do we fill other positions of need and what is the realistic chance that the young talent such as Turner and Jordan and our young corners are realistic and viable candidates to start and contribute at a high level.

  87. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Rock,

Suh’s deal is basically a 3 year deal.

Obviously the risk is inherent in the players health.

If Suh gets injured within this 3 year time from this can be potentially disastrous (I say disastrous because if the Fins don’t draft successfully then the only other way to get productive players is to buy them in FA).

If the Fins feel they need to cut Suh after 2017, they can take the remaining pro-rated signing bonus hit right away at a $10.2 mill charge for the 2018 cap year or split it into two cap years via post June 1st cut ($5.1 mill hit in 2018 then $5.1 mill hit in 2019).

As for the individual cap year hits; I’m not too concerned how they do it. Everyone else getting a high priced contract will just have their specific year cap hit rolled into some other year.

Rookie salaries are pretty miniscule so no need to worry about the impact of those on the cap.

Remember, the cap will continue to grow which creates more room naturally and the CBA mandates spending so teams have to either spend it on average players (see Jags) or just split their roster payments into high priced high end players and cheap rookies who can ball.

    —————————————
If we were a scheme that played one shallow one deep like that i would agree with ya, but our scheme is both safeties playing same role. We need hybrid guys, but having said that i dont think Holliman is a liability there, just needs to improve some, same as Tartt with his coverage, he isnt a liability but he could do with a little refinement. Prewitt is the one that probably could use a little refinement in both areas but offers the best overall combination of skills and probably would plug more naturally into that spot. The reason we didn’t chase Jarius Byrd and instead went for Delmas, is because our defense is set up to have interchangeable safeties.

  89. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

if you think the pats won with great coaching and brady and not that they have the commish in their back pocket then i think you are smoking too much of that legal stuff out there.

never in the history of the league, or hell any league has a team had constant turnover and continues to win no name players. the only way that happens is if they are getting an advantage some place else. it is no coincidence every SB they have won comes with a cheating scandal

  90. Al in MIA's avatar Al in MIA says:

    Ken,
I don’t have a problem with spending; it has to happen but I do care about where the money is spent. To me, DT is the foundation of any defense and if you can get the top talent there or top 3, then so be it. Yes, I prefer something cheap (draft) but the team has talent that is on the cusp of peaking (Vernon / Tannehill) or already peaking (Wake) and the Fins obviously don’t want to wait to develop a DT.

  91. BoulderPhinfan's avatar BoulderPhinfan says:

Addition of suh will sell more tickets. That’s probably one of the big reasons he was brought here.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

I think that may be somewhat intended collateral…however, I think the primary reason they signed him is because the chance to get an HOF player in his prime is incredibly rare in this league.

  92. Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Blog moved fast, but there’s a response for you above FFR regarding the chances Suh tanks after he gets paid. I did mention Haynesworth back when Suh was just an idea, but in retrospect, Haynesworth was a contract year wonder and he never had the pedigree or proven reputation for staying healthy and playing hard that Suh has.

  93. D's avatar D says:

I understand the injury, but for oyu guys who were gung ho for Albert but worry about Suh (who has no history of injury) really confuse me. There is quaite a bit of money tied up in Albert too. It does suck to lose sucha talented player to injury, and thats despite the inherent cost associated with them, but i think this is unwarranted fear at this point as there is no more likelihood he will get injured as there is someone like Watt and almost universally on here people agree his contract was a good one.

  94. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    to use piggy’s analogy

signing suh is like buying a $300 tenderloin for dinner and spending $30 on salad and potatoes. if you ruin the tenderloin cooking it, dinner will suck however there will be some other cheap ass stuff your guest can fill up on.

  95. FFR: The stuff out here is wayyyyyy better then in FLA so yeah maybe my brain is getting a little toasted. 😛

  96. finfanrob's avatar finfanrob says:

    jahn

i didnt say suh isnt a great player. as a matter of fact i dont think anyone on here has ever questioned if he was a great player or not. i think most of the questions center around it is a big gamble one way or another to spend that much money on one player.

some worry about injury, my worry is about his commitment. i read you response and have no comment back, everything you said is true and a valid point. but i still worry about it. cause there is a history of it happening all over sports.

    • Jahndoh30's avatar jahndoh says:

Fair enough. I just think that there are clues, and in every instance you can point to them, but there are none of those with Suh. Like I said, I have my own worry, but it’s about injury, and not commitment. Only time will tell.
