Wedge Scouting Report: Dear Earth

Wedge ID

Dear Earth,

The 2015 NFL Draft is Thursday.  I’m so nervous…  Its not just about the draft.  Its also because the deadline for my report to the Alpha Alien is due.  I’ve thought about it for months.  What will I report to the Alpha Alien?  What did I learn is the best way to destroy the Earth?

Well, you will be relieved to hear:  I’ve decided to spare Earth…at least until after the 2015 NFL Draft.  I’m going to file a report with the Alpha Alien.  But I’m going to tell him that I created a new way to destroy the Earth which involves the slow decay of their culture until Earthling Brains turn to mush.

But I won’t do a thing.  I don’t have to.  Keeping up with the Kardashians has been on TV for years now.  The Alpha Alien will give me credit for that and I get to watch football a little longer.

To celebrate, let’s take a look back at all the prospects we scouted this season!

This is epically disappointing. To think, we had a deal in place for his sorry ass. That really frustrates me. I hate that useless POS

Watch the asshole pundits say that’s a lack of leadership and coaching while ignoring Aaron Hernandez. I’ll fucking find them and throw dog shit at them if they go there. LOL

Yep. Watch how they laud the Patriots for drafting DGB, Jaelen Collins, or Shayne Ray.

Stupid F’k smiling on a boat with some chicka…FU DJ!!!

  7. dbolt48 says:

    Ok more accurate cap number:

@flasportsbuzz: As cap guru Joel Corry says, Dolphins’ $5.3 M 2015 cap hit for Jordan becomes $3.1 million. Extra space leaves Fins with $12 M in space.

  8. getterdone says:

Was likely for Jordan, now that deal is toast. But Mathis may get released anyhow. But Mychal Kendricks probably won’t.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Eagles LG Evan Mathis recently came up in trade talks with the Dolphins.
Per reporter Jeff McLane, Mathis’ name was “discussed.” It’s the second time in two months Mathis has been connected to the Dolphins, but it doesn’t appear a trade is imminent. Mathis is skipping voluntary workouts as Chip Kelly decides his future. Mathis’ release remains a possibility.

  9. phindog says:

Toba.. Did you still have Leaky Anus from Your Puerto Villarta trip ? Hope all is well and that you and the wifey had a blast !!!

  10. getterdone says:

    Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley
A plugged-in friend of mine just crystalized the Dolphins’ issues: They spent ~$70M on Jordan, Ellerbe, Wheeler and Wallace. 2013=disaster

    • Mike E. says:

Does plugged-in mean he has a vibrator that doesn’t operate on batteries?

    • getterdone says:

Not to mention the other failed/failing draft picks.

  14. twicethethe says:

@#$% great…now Jordan’s trade value is less than a bag of Wise potato chips.

  15. Mike E. says:

That is sad about Gibson. Always admired the fire he played with. Not like the fire Dion Jordan played with.

    • Tim Knight says:

So what’s your plan for your #95 jersey? LOL

      • dbolt48 says:

A little different than the plan for your Clay jersey.

      • Mike E. says:

I’m hoping some other good player gets that number, and I’ll change the name.

      • Mike E. says:

Moral of the story – DON’T BUY A DOLPHINS JERSEY!!!

      • dbolt48 says:

Honestly Mike just eat 2doz hot wings Thursday night and use it for a napkin. After that dig a shallow hole in your back yard and put the jersey in there uncovered. Then the next morning when the wings kick in and you’re having that lower intestinal spasm and your ass starts sweating make your way to the backyard and empty your contents on the jersey…..then cover with the remaining dirt.

  16. twicethethe says:

Well, at least the suspension was revealed before the draft and not after…

  17. Tim Knight says:

dbolt, I was just thinking about what to do with my Clay jersey last night. I could change the name because it’s a quality jersey. So I’ll wait for the next #42.

Watch we’ll draft Tyler Varga and he’s be #42. LOL

  18. stangerx says:

Non-Quiz of the day…..who said it after the 2nd suspension but before his last walk down Duval Street?

“I am currently undergoing treatment to address my situation. I am working hard to become a better man and to make better choices in the future. I am especially looking forward to returning to the team. I also want to thank my family, Coach Philbin and the Miami Dolphins organization for their support.”

Does make one wonder what the situation is though.

  19. Mike E. says:

LOL @ Tim and Valiant Varga

  20. stangerx says:

“Moral of the story – DON’T BUY A DOLPHINS JERSEY!!!”

    Unless it is a #2. 🙂

  21. getterdone says:

Maybe we can get a guy like Geno Grissom with one of our 5th round picks. He has the potential to be what we hoped Jordan was supposed to be.

  22. manitobafinfan says:

    RE: DBolt 2:53 NICE !!!!

  23. Mike E. says:

    LMAO @ D-Bolt!

  24. Tim Knight says:

I’m going to buy some new apparel with just our logo on it, no more player jerseys for me. I’ll represent the entire fucking team. Then when they suck I’ll shit on all of them. LOL

  25. drg says:

    Tim,

Nobody is more at fault than Jordan. Simple as that. I didn’t like the trade to get him because it gave up critical 2nd round pick and it didn’t address a big need. Just me, but I only move up for a guy that fills a big void and is a special talent. Everyone was in love with the athleticism of Jordan in college, but he wasn’t even the tenth best player on Oregon in terms of production. I also remember reading Ireland talking about how they had no clue they could move up to 3 until minutes before the pick. Hard to imagine the FO had really done their homework on the guy like they should have. It all felt forced to me. Had we taken Lane Johnson I still would have hated the pick, but at least it would have filled a need.

Not a ton of blame on the coaches other than not being able to find a way to utilize the guy better. He didn’t do squat as a DE and we had a distinct need at LB. Felt like a missed opportunity there to get him involved and maybe that would have changed his attitude a bit. Probably not though.

    • stangerx says:

Incredibly stupid kid. And not really going to defend Ireland — cause I though he was a bad scheme fit — but Jordan seemed a high character guy. Never saw this coming.

    • Tim Knight says:

I think his lack of production has answers now. Coaching was never going to get it out of him.

    • D says:

Yeah only thing that would have sucked more was if he was actually an integral part of the team. Kinda stings less for me since i knew he was a goner anyways and hadnt done shit for us.

  26. getterdone says:

Mike E dumping his #95 jersey by going with #2.

  27. Mike E. says:

    LOL @ GDP!

  28. Mike E. says:

    Manitoba – That’s a smart move

  29. drg says:

    Stanger,
I really don’t remember much about him pre-draft other than watching him play for Oregon and then wondering how in the hell he was being talked about as such a high pick. This isn’t the NBA. Drafting a guy based mostly on potential is risky business.

    • Mike E. says:

Do you remember the interview with Ireland after the draft? He was asked if he ever had regrets about not drafting a player in a particular draft, and Ireland said Jordan would be that guy if he missed out on him.

    • stangerx says:

I agree, but that is not the real downfall here. You buy a car and are worried that it is a risk cause of the wear on the engine, harder to say you were right when you learn the frame was bent.

      • D says:

I think car example is a good one, everyone looked at Jordan like a Ferrari, they saw the potential of that Ferrari and were lined up to buy it. We jumped in front of the line and got it without really taking the precautions of taking it for a thorough drive. It turned out to be a lemon and now we are bemoaning the purchase. That does not change that the trade itself was awful, we just should have selected Ansah instead lol.

      • stangerx says:

D — have a feeling that we are going to be reminding everyone we were on the Ziggy bus for decades to come. 🙂

    • D says:

I still think the trade was a good one, obviously now the pick was an awful one, but given all the info they had on him, he had all the talent and we all know how shitty Ireland was as a people evaluator. I knew immediately after Hickey had signed we had a better people person, and i think his talent evaluation seems pretty good as well.

    • Tim Knight says:

Risky indeed. It just blew up in our face.

  30. steveccnv says:

DRG, the Jordan pick did fill a need, who knew OV was going to produce like he did? I loved him coming out of college, but what he did as a rookie didn’t suggest he would blow up in yr 2.

  31. stangerx says:

The buy now bid for one “Autographed Dion Jordan Dolphins Game Used Jersey” is $1,249.95 on ebay right now. Anyone looking to bargain shop……I’ll offer up the link.

  32. getterdone says:

I still hope we trade down, have more picks to hit on with this better FO.
Face it, we still need to replace a couple more of Jeffro’s not so good acquisitions.

  33. dbolt48 says:

    I call BS

@FANtasyTandem: Also can confirm that Dion Jordan is no longer allowed in Dolphins facility. A trade imminent. Stay tuned…

  34. steveccnv says:

The suspension costs Jordan $3,335,418 in signing-bonus forfeiture and $2,275,209 in salary for 2015. Since none of this money was guaranteed, because of the previous suspensions, what is his dead money?

  35. dbolt48 says:

@flasportsbuzz: Dolphins summoned Duke Johnson to their offices today because conflict with a Colts workout prevented him from attending Fins’ local pro day

  36. Mike E. says:

I have to admit I DESPISE when people separate the value of the trade from the pick. It makes no sense whatsover, when the value of the trade is what you get from the actual player you traded for. Who cares if you traded to #3 from #14 and all you gave up was your 2nd RD pick if the guy you draft at #3 sucks? Why it’s even mentioned baffles me. We THREW AWAY a 1st and 2nd RD pick for NOTHING. End of story!

    • getterdone says:

      Huh?

    • stangerx says:

Why despise it? I hate how it ended it up, but how much you spend for a pick and how the pick turns out are two different subjects.

    • steveccnv says:

It makes perfect sense, if you don’t think about it… Seriously though the value from the trade up and value of the pick are 2 completely different things, if not how would you even evaluate Ireland based on the trade. What went wrong? Surely it was the pick and not the compensation.

What Mike is talking about is the bottom line, the bottom line is Ireland fucked us up, again.

  37. finfanrob says:

    Mike E. says:

I actually have a fond memory of Walker calling me after we took Ryan Tannehill at #8

then you went and stole his blog, hack m13’s computer and got poor piggy throat punched.

  38. getterdone says:

Mike E, Stanger…lesson learned for any GM watching. It’s easy enough to screw up a draft pick and have it bust on you. But when you trade up, especially into the 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd….you better know FOR SURE what you’re getting!

  39. steveccnv says:

We lose a good STs player, but really not much more, and when you weigh in what his salary would’ve been we may be getting lucky, except for the fact that he would’ve been traded to the Eagles (if you believe that report), so…

Omar says it’s going to cost us money to cut him, it was either $1 mil or $100,000, but I think Omar doesn’t know what he’s talking about, because it makes no sense. His guaranteed money was voided, because of the suspensions, so I don’t think there’s any dead money.

    • stangerx says:

Actually tried to check out the rules on this and couldn’t find them. But am guessing from what Abramson and the rest said the hit would be the left over hit from the signing bonus.

      • steveccnv says:

The mystery is what did he actually get paid so far in signing bonus?

      • stangerx says:

$13,341,680 — all in one big fat check. Cap Qs aside, what I’m not certain of is if he now has to give a bunch of it back. Thinking we have a Ricky situation.

  40. finfanrob says:

maybe mike e can put up in his Ask Mike blog the rules of joking on here. since some of you get so offended so easy maybe he can spell out the rules for me.

  41. wyoming85 says:

    Fuck him
Make him come back and pick up gum wrappers in 2016 to pay the signing bonus back!

Seriously though, didn’t Ricky have to come back rather than pay back some money?

  42. Tim Knight says:

GD, why did you say to ffr great day to bring that up?

    • getterdone says:

      Cause we’re all pissed @ Jordan’s 800lb gorilla/elephant in the room.
I dunno, my head is spinning. Phins can’t catch a friggin break can we…ugh.

  43. son of a son of a shula says:

So you phuckers can stop calling me stupid for saying DE is in play all along.

FU Jordan, I hope the hottie on the boat dumps your sorry ass.

  44. Tim Knight says:

Mike E is no doubt adding comments on Dion Jordan to his Ask Mike Draft article. LOL

  45. getterdone says:

I know FFR was joking…I laughed & then had a cynical reply. All is good.

    Go Phins!

  46. son of a son of a shula says:

So it takes minutes to suspend Jordan for the season but the league can’t figure out what the hell to do with a team that blatantly cheats. FU NFL stop ruining our game.

  47. getterdone says:

    Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
One team failed UCLA LB Eric Kendricks medically due to a knee issue, according to Bob McGinn.
“Tough, quick, sudden, plays fast,” one scout told McGinn. “Just hurt all the time.” This is the first time we have read anything regarding Kendricks’ medicals. He made 42 starts during his time at UCLA. Many quotes cited by McGinn discuss Kendricks’ lack of size. Excuse our bias, but we don’t see the issue. He is 6’0/232 lbs. We think Kendricks should be a first round pick, but a top 50 selection is more realistic.

  48. Tim Knight says:

In recent days we were discussing that we’d likely move Jordan. Well his tenure here is likely over it just sucks we’ll get nothing for him. This doesn’t change the outlook I have for the team this year because he already wasn’t part of it.

    • son of a son of a shula says:

It doesn’t my feeling although I was looking forward to a break put season for him since Suh arrived. Jordan is just a selfish dumbass.

    • D says:

To me the biggest downer here is how close we were to getting something for him….like literally it seemed like it was down to hours maybe. End result is he will be gone, that hasn’t changed, we also are better for not having a guy like that on our team, that hasn’t changed. So bemoaning it really is either revisionist griping about shit thats been done for a couple years now (ie the trade up) or because we didn’t get anything in return. I liked thinking it might be a 3rd round pick, and probably would piss me off if i heard what the proposed details were and it actually be a 2nd or 3rd, but reality probably was we weren’t going to get much of anything for him so meh, im over it.

Loathe as I am to defend the twin pariahs Bazooka Joe and Coyle, I cannot blame them for failing to coax greatness out of the wonderful gift Jeffy bestowed on them. Regularly mediocre teams do not have the luxury of pissing away high draft picks on “potential” and little else.

    • D says:

Possibly, but i think that wouldnt have been turned in to the NFL.

Dion Jordan attended Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona. He played both tight end and defensive end. He caught 54 passes for 804 yards and 13 touchdowns as a junior.

  67. Mike E. says:

    Steve

Thanks for explaining what I mean. I totally understand the merits of getting value on a trade, but the end result of the trade is what you get out of the player, because the pieces you traded to get that player become immaterial once the trade is done, and all you have is the player, and you don’t have the picks used to get that player. If the player sucks, the trade sucks, I don’t see any logic in any other perspective. Just like with DT, even i the points on the trade chart showed that we got the best of the team we traded with points wise, that means nothing if the player we got didn’t play, and now with Dion Jordan, this the 2nd time we got the short end of the stick on the player obtained from a trade up. Lamar Miller, on the other hand was a good trade up. I couldn’t give a rats ass what the point value was of the trade up for him was, because we got a good player out of it. That’s what counts, and ALL that counts, unless you really overpaid to trade up.

    • steveccnv says:

      You’re killin’ me Mike 😛

    • Tim Knight says:

Agreed, who was praising the value of the trade today?

      • steveccnv says:

The bottom line is how well the player performs, but if you want to evaluate how well your GM does regarding trade value, then it is relevant to discuss what it took to get to #3. It may not mean anything to Mike, but Ireland landed on another team based on his ability to get value when trading.

    • getterdone says:

The best value and most prescient pick, a truly wise hedging of your bet, was Hickey selecting Fede in the 7th round. I feel he had an idea things could very well sour on Jordan at some point.
If Fede comes on in his 2nd-3rd year, then it will totally mitigate that damage by Jeffro…Brilliant Move if so!

      Go Hickey!

      • Tim Knight says:

  69. steveccnv says:

Another trade example like us trading for Jordan instead of staying put: Do you want Todd Gurley for half a season or Phillip Dorsett & Denzel Perryman for the entire season? Some say you take the blue chipper, but it doesn’t always work out that way. I’m leaning toward Dorsett and Perryman.

  70. getterdone says:

    Dave George ✔ @Dave_GeorgePBP
Of all the No. 3 overall selections since 1970 #NFL draft, #DionJordan is least impactful with 1 start. 2nd worst is 9. Akili Smith had 17.

    • steveccnv says:

Another point against stats. Starts doesn’t equal success. Jordan didn’t get it done at DE, but he did a great job of covering Gronk and on STs, Smith never did shit. Jordan wasn’t awful, he just didn’t live up to his draft status.

Agreed, who was praising the value of the trade today?

Was me, and i still hold the value of the trade was there, we simply selected the wrong person. I think they are completely independent. If i trade up to 3 and get a guy who produces while only giving up a 2nd, or i trade up and get the same guy giving up a 2nd 3 and next years 1, then we may still have the same guy but what we gave up hurts us more in the long run….so independent of what we got, the impact and value is very different.

    Rioting is for morons.

hey now come on. that guy that died was and upstanding drug dealer in the community. he was busy helping the youths in the community get hooked on drugs and stay out of school helping the school system lower taxes.

ffr — perfectly aware you got no joke rules. 🙂

But then flip side to that is people respond to them too. And nobody was harsh.

i never thought anyone was harsh.

Stanger – I guess I’m just a bottom line guy, the rest doesn’t mean anything to me.
    ———————————–
Would you be more pissed if it had cost us 3 1st round picks? If you say yes you are admitting the trade value matters and that its different from the failure of the pick.

    • Mike E. says:

Right, but that’s not what I’m complaining about. I mentioned if you overpaid for the trade, that’s not good either, but the good value on the trade becomes cancelled out when the player doesn’t pan out. The value of the trade no longer has any value, because the player you chose with the pick acquired didn’t work.

Prophetic video of Jeff Ireland celebrating the Dion Jordan pick.

Ok i see your point now i think, i still feel they are separate from one another, just because one is done in the here and now and the other is looking back after knowing how shit turns out, but i definitely get your view point now.

  81. Tim Knight says:

The bottom line is the move to trade up and acquire Jordan didn’t pan out.

  82. phindog says:

Son.. That was Tim’s link.. I just figured it needed revisited.. LOL !!!

  83. steveccnv says:

Compare the Jordan trade up and the Skins trading up for RGIII, one was a bad pick the other was a bad decision that’s going to cost that franchise for yrs to come.

this is why i read your post. this type of inhuman intelligent insight is just breathtaking.

  85. Tim Knight says:

Let’s go back and revisit who we could have picked with the #42 pick in 2013 so we all get more pissed off. LOL

    • stangerx says:

Sounds like they weren’t saving much money overall anyhow. And now they don’t have to tell us how much Godell is making.

thats fine you do that. but i am just going to warn you if you look back be ready for they vile hatred and harsh comments for stanger.

    • steveccnv says:

      Why was a punter available?

      • D says:

No but there were some this year that made Fields shave a little off the top or he would potentially have been gone, Im glad it worked out the way it did, i like Fields a lot, but it was going to be hard continuing to have a higher salary at punter.

    • stangerx says:

LOL ffr — you know me too well. I vomit all over people like the girl in The Exorcist. 🙂

  88. Brian in NY says:

Fuck you Jordan. Hands down the worst pick in Dolphins history.

  89. olddolphan says:

WELL, WELL, WELL, is ANYBODY really surprised that Jeff Ireland’s last “Great Acquisition” has become one of the biggest draft mistakes in Dolphin history???? Of course this particular fiasco pales by comparison to Ross’s decision TO RETAIN BOTH IRELAND & SPARANO two years after both had proven to me they were unfit for the jobs they had!!! WHEN you think of all the serious damage Ireland did to this once-great franchise, DON’T OVERLOOK the man who helped make it possible, STEVE ROSS who, with the advice of Metamucil Carl Peterson, decided to retain numb-brain Ireland long after his incompetence was proven beyond a doubt!!!
    ————-
Someone up the page said that the Philbin haters are going to put the blame for this awful deal on Philbin. – – WRONG AGAIN!!!!! – – The blame for this rests on ROSS, who COULD have replaced Ireland 2 years earlier and avoided several of Jeffroe’s draft day disasters!!. –But let us NOT forget Mr. Philbin. –MORE LATER AFTER DINNER!!

  91. stangerx says:

Man — when Brian starts swearing I know it is a tough day for the board. It’s like the Monday after an overtime loss to the Ravens.

I was thinkin of ya… Need my red Winds ta get their shit together now.. They are my adopted team, from the period that Winnipeg did not have a team… Basically at this point ANYONE BUT MONTREAL !!!!!

  92. Brian in NY says:

Lol! At least my Mets are giving me hope!

  93. Brian in NY says:

A certain draft pick could make me forget about Jordan by midnight Thursday…

  94. Mike E. says:

Damn Try – I thought you were joking. It doesn’t seem like he’s in any trouble, probably just want some info if he has any.

    • D says:

He isnt a suspect currently but dude being the BF of a pregnant GF is how almost all the forensic files start moving towards conviction lol. Id say a good 90% of the stories that have murdered pregnant ex girlfriends always trace back to the former B, the other 10% of the time it traces back to another one of his ont the side women.

      • D says:

He has an alibi that places him no where near where she was shot, not that it helps him not be involved but that does look good for him for sure.

2013 was not a good year to decide to put eggs in one basket.
    ——————————-
    1. Eric Fisher, OL (Kansas City Chiefs) — Fisher has started consistently for the Chiefs but hasn’t distinguished himself. ESPN’s Mel Kiper said last year that Fisher wouldn’t have gone in the top-eight of the 2014 Draft.

    2. Luke Joeckel, OL (Jacksonville Jaguars) — After missing almost all of his rookie year with an injury, Joeckel started all 16 games on a Jacksonville line that finished dead last in pass protection in 2014.

    3. Dion Jordan, DE (Miami Dolphins) — Jordan barely got onto the field in his rookie year. He was suspended six games in 2014 and played only 20% of his team’s snaps. Now he’s out for all of 2015.

    4. Lane Johnson, OL (Philadelphia Eagles) — While he hasn’t made a Pro Bowl, he has been a solid starter on an Eagles line that improved dramatically when Chip Kelly got there.

    5. Ziggy Ansah, DE (Detroit Lions) — He’s probably the player on this list with the most potential. He has 15.5 sacks in his first two years and saw his playing time increase in 2014.

    6. Barkevious Mingo, LB (Cleveland Browns) — He’s not the dominant edge rusher they thought he’d be, picking up just 2.0 sacks in 2014 in 11 starts.

    7. Jonathan Cooper, OL (Arizona Cardinals) — Only played 17.4% of his team’s snaps in 2014 after missing his rookie year with a broken leg.

    8. Tavon Austin, WR (St. Louis Rams) — He hasn’t been the electrifying playmaker many though he would be. He has started 11 games in two years, making just 31 catches in 2014.

    9. Dee Milliner, CB (New York Jets) — After a tumultuous rookie year Milliner was benched in 2014 and only played 11.4% of his team’s snaps.

    10. Chance Warmack, OL (Tennessee Titans) — He has started all 16 games both years.

  96. D says:

Im just upset that this might actually affect our draft strategy. I know they had to be counting on whatever they were going to get for Jordan as part of their trade up/trade down moves.I think i had pretty much already relegated myself to accepting Jordan never would pan out for us, i just hate it affects our draft.

  97. Ken says:

I am disappointed in Jordan. I have always held out hope that he would use the tremendous athletic ability he has to develop into a quality player. I hold no more hope for him.
