I tink that we may try to parlay to of those picks into a fourth today. I kind of hope that we dont thought so we can have that glut of picks in the 5th. Funny thought: we have four 5th rounders, and we don’t take Varga.

Going from the 5th to the 4th is tough, I figured out last night it takes like 3 of our 5ths to get to the 4th, so no trading up I like having 4 5ths. Zach Thomas, Jelani Jenkins, and Reshad Jones come to mind, these are guys that usually need a redshirt yr, but could be really good after that.

      Having 4 4ths doesn’t get back our 3rd, but I’ll take it.

I hope that we can grab DJ Humphries at 114. I have a feeling he may be gone by then. Tre Jackson or Ifo would do as well.

My wish list for the 5th in no particular order:

    S Adrian Amos (Penn St.)

    G Sean Hickey (Syracuse)
    C Shaq Mason (Georgia Tech)
    TE Nich O’leary (FSU)

We had a chance to draft a player who can compete to start at OG or a player who can compete to start at ILB. Instead we get a developmental DT with a bad motor who can rotate in with Suh, Mitchell, Fede and Francis.

  11. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Randy Gregory falls, falls, falls… right to the Cowboys at No. 60.

Throughout the 2014 season, Nebraska pass rusher Randy Gregory was a mainstay in the top 10 of first round mock drafts. But numerous failed drug tests, including one at the 2015 Scouting Combine, sabotaged his draft stock, dropping him out of the first round. But at some point, the talent is worth the risk and for the Dallas Cowboys, that was at pick No. 60 in the second round. In fact, Gregory was a prospect that was in play for Dallas in the first round at pick No. 27. So while he will need a support system in Dallas, it could end up being an enormous steal.
    —————————————

This explains how I feel about La’el, at some point the talent is worth the risk.

    • Brian in NY's avatar Brian in NY says:

Maybe in the 5th, but his agent said that he was going to pull him if he wasn’t drafted in the 2nd or 3rd. I think it was a bluff.

      • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Or maybe his camp wants him to be an UDFA, so when he’s cleared he goes to the highest bidder.

  14. D's avatar D says:

Got to thinking about all this 5ths last night and we could go from 1 4 and 4 5’s to 3 4’s but I think I’d rather have the extra picks at this point. I’m wondering if we select a QB especially if petty is still around. Even if we have no intentions of him ever being our guy we could groom him have a solid backup and then trade him once he has some NFL training and experience ie Flynn and Mallett.

Again I’m not proposing this its just food for thought

    • steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I hate drafting QBs at this pt in RTs career. I think it’s insane to farm them and keep them around only to trade them for a future pick later. They say a 4th this yr is worth a 3rd next yr, so a QB you draft in the 4th that you keep for 3 yrs should be worth a 1st. Does anyone see us getting a first in 3 yrs for any QB left in this draft?

      • D's avatar D says:

No I don’t. Petty is toutedcas most prototypical QB of the class but I do think at best we would get a 4th back for him if we went that route

  15. D's avatar D says:

You guys with la’el lol. Look if he is cleared that’s great. I don’t at all believe that the police at this point think he us fully exonerated or the wouldn’t have made him come back. I promise you the BRPD love their LSU players and thus would nor have gone down like that unless the needed him back to observe him when they question him. Paternity test can be done at certified labs in the Chicago area. His statement could have been made via lawyer and faxed to the Brod, he also could have answered any questions with a lawyer present from Chicago. The only real thing they couldn’t do with him in Chicago is put their hands on him ie keep him close so as not to have him be where they can’t take immediate custody of him if the get to that point or because they want to see how he reacts to questioning. This points to not bing sure he is innocent and feeling like he may have been involved.

If this us the case do you want to disgrace the team by drafting a guy even in the 5th that’s a murderer. I don’t call this fan or societal perception i call this a dumb ass move. Once ehoberated maybe we try for him but until that time, like everyone else, stay the fuck away.

He isn’t the end all be all for our team, he’s a good player in a sea full of good players who would cause more damage if we famvle and lose than good if we gamble and win.

I don’t get the obsession with this kid.

Her we is a link to the story about Ifo and insurance

He’s not getting $ not to play in 2015
He didn’t purchase an ins policy for that

Oregon purchased an ins policy for him
And he collected money once he wasn’t a first round pick

I guess that was incentive to keep him for his senior year?
    (Piggy shrugs)
But it doesn’t sound like it affects him playing or not in 2015

    • dbolt48's avatar dbolt48 says:

  28. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Just because you want a good guard who can block the monster DTs in our division doesn’t mean they’re in this draft to start right away. My guess is we don’t have a high grade on them.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

And to put a fine point on it

They were NOT in this draft

There is no evidence that Jake Fisher can play anything other than RT

      Once Collins was a loss
The whole class of OL took a big hit

IMO a lot of teams reached for less talented OL in the first couple of
      Rounds

It wasn’t a strong OL to begin with
And one of the top, if not the very top was off everyone board bc of a freak issue that no one knows how to deal with

This was not the draft for OL

Let’s see If Marpet starts next year before the throwing tomatoes

I bet a lot of the guys taken Thursday and Friday need time

I don’t understand the logic of some people

Let’s not give Turner and Thomas time to develop
Let’s just draft another guy we need to give time to develop and give up in those guys

  29. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

Ifo reminds me of Reshad Jones, in that he was injured in college and fell to the 5th, now look at him. That’s why I don’t want to trade any picks out of the 5th, when you have multiple picks you can take chances someone will turn out to be great or at least very good.

  30. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

When we signed two OL a week prior to the draft that may have been a sign we didn’t think the answer was early in the draft for OL once our board was set. Maybe we add one or two in the 4th or 5th rounds and as UDFAs.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I don’t know why no one mentions the OGs we signed before the draft

There was a reason for that

      I don’t mind adding 2 OL today
But the well is drying up

So I don’t think we need one instead of a quality player at another position

  31. Randy's avatar Randy says:

I actually really like this pick as far as player value. He’s a gifted big man. I can see where some folks may think we should’ve gone with another position. This suggests that Hickey doesn’t waiver from his board to fill specific needs….at least not with this pick. I hope his back issues are a thing of the past though.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      He’s really talented
Probably not an every down guy

      But let’s build around Suh

I don’t think the player warrants criticism

But if we go into the season with holes on the OL, that will be the issue
And to the extent, the criticism is valid

  32. bat's avatar bat says:

“I hate the Phillips pick more today than yesterday, but not as much as tomorrow” …Spiral Staircase

  33. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yeah Randy, Phillips has a lot of athletic ability for a big man at 6-5 330. If we were relying on him to be the main man up front at DT right away then maybe this pick is a bit questionable but he won’t be because he’s behind Suh and Mitchell but he’ll compete with A. Johnson, Francis and others to round out the depth.

I think after 5 months of looking at mock drafts with nothing but WR, LB, OL, the occasional RB, DB and TE we were almost brainwashed to not look at value at other positions. I saw Phillips in the 1st round in some mocks. We got him at #52 so that’s very good value. We also don’t want to get run on like we did late last year and that doesn’t change with just one guy in Suh so we’re looking to get deep up front on the DL. Not sure when that became a bad thing. LOL

  34. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

It turns out the Devante Parker’s family is smarter than Lebron’s

  35. bat's avatar bat says:

. I thought the story was that the D collapsed last year because we had no depth to account for injuries at LB and DB .. Now suddenly another lazy fat guy is going to make all the difference? …whatever ..lol

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

I do to think that’s why the d collapsed
Teams were running right up the guy on us

Phillips directly addresses that problem (as does Suh)
      There was also poor Tackling
So I hope we add a LB who can tackle today

I don’t think the secondary play was a factor in the d collapsing last year
But I think we need depth and even competition to start so we should add some DBs today

  36. bat's avatar bat says:

Piggy … You don’t think that lousy DB’s playing 15 yards off the ball had anything to do with the collapse ..Look at how many third and longs they coughed up in critical moments.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      I think that’s scheme
      Not talent
If you draft more talented guys they still give that Cushion

I think the scheme could use a change though

  37. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Bat, LB and DB did hurt us late in the year but Starks and Odrick also struggled and they’re gone. Wake and Vernon wore down because of how much they had to play because Jordan gave us little and Shelby can only do so much. So we signed Suh, hope for Fede to take the next step, drafted Phillips and hopefully McCain will be what we hoped Jordan would be.

That said, what fans think and what our FO thinks are not always the same. LOL

  38. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Piggy, we were playing young DBs and guys off the street late in the year.

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      But that is depth
And that is what day 3 is for

We should draft 2 DBs today

The criticism of not taking a DB is particularly sore to me

Since I’m the only one here who suggested we should draft Trae Waynes

      Seriously guys
      Stop bitching

No one else wanted to take a CB in round 1 expect me

  39. bat's avatar bat says:

Tim .. I guess I’m just not buying that a project DT lacking effort and intensity with a bad back was worth tossing a second round pick on … Call me crazy …lol

  40. bat's avatar bat says:

Piggy …I agree that scheme is a factor, but Coyle is still here, so I guess we can expect more of the same…

    • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

      Possibly

But that has nothing to do with the draft

Except to the extent if you think coaching changes may occur in 2016 you should be BPA all the way

And I think we’ve been BPA

  41. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Bat, maybe your assumptions about Phillips are a little extreme. LOL

I don’t view him as a project. He has the talent to be dominant. It also tells us that we’re not convinced A. Johnson, Francis and other DTs on the roster are the answer behind Suh and Mitchell. There’s nothing wrong with being stout up front on the DL.

  42. bat's avatar bat says:

Piggy .. That is sound logic regarding a regime change, I just don’t think Phillips is any good ..I detest guys who don’t give 100% and try to coast by. The Dolphins would not have been any worse off this year without Jordan Phillips ..IMO

  43. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think our defensive scheme was the problem, it was a talent issue when we were hit with a lot of injuries down the stretch. Now we know why we didn’t get much from Jordan. We needed to make changes up front and we did with Suh, now Phillips and we’ll look to Fede and McCain to make that 2nd year jump.

  44. bat's avatar bat says:

OK … Time for me to get aggravated when we draft two more DL today ..lol … Later …

  45. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Oh I forgot, we still have 5 picks left. LOL

We can address a lot of depth needs in the 4th and 5th. If we hit on two of them as in they become a part of our game day roster this year we’re in good shape. But to be realistic we’re closing in on developmental range now.

That said we can’t forget the young players already on the team that we’re expecting improved play from and we have a lot of them.

Watching some tape on him, he’s pulling or getting out in front of a screen in almost every play, he’s very athletic and has a nasty pop at point of contact. Maybe the FO figured they didn’t need a highly rated college Olineman to fit our system, just an athletic guy with a little nasty.

That’s been the book on Benton that he develops later round talent

    • Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Yep! He’s got a lot of talent. The negative on him is he doesn’t play up to his weight room strength on the field but the ability is there. 28 reps of 225 and he has huge hands at 10 3/4 and good size arms at 33 3/8 for a guard. He’s considered a LG. He will likely compete with Thomas as I believe we view Turner as a RG.

Douglas is q pretty good pick

  77. D's avatar D says:

    Blake bell gone

  78. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

I’d like to see his pancake stats, because he’s knocking someone on their ass on every play. I don’t know how this guy fell so far. Against SC he’s making them look bad.

I wish they would stop talking to that fat fuck belima

  84. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    There goes Wilson! 😦

  85. D's avatar D says:

    Fucj Wilson is gone

  86. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

I don’t think our brain trust is as worried about LB as many fans are. I’ve felt this all along. This also isn’t a very good LB class.

    • D's avatar D says:

Yeah I liked the idea of adding McKinney outside of that it was kind of depth for me. I thought McKinney could cover Slb and then move to mlb later when misi was up for renegotiations. Depth guy is good and if need be we can get a stud later. I think they were aiming for McKinney but moved into BPA after that was gobe

  87. D's avatar D says:

Damn that guy needs an inside version of his outside voice

  88. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    Bottom Line
Douglas gets by with adequate length and plus athleticism, but his play demeanor will have to ramp up in order to make it as an NFL guard. Douglas flashes enough potential to excite teams looking for athletic traits, but his lack of functional power will be hard to overlook for others. Douglas could benefit from a glass-chewing mentor in the NFL.

MR. Suh would you go show MR. Douglas what a Pro-Bowl DT can do!

  89. Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

    Damn there goes Grant!! 😦

  90. D's avatar D says:

    Is prewitt still around?

  91. D's avatar D says:

    Everyone gets their chubby
    Hooray!!!

  93. Tim Knight's avatar Tim Knight says:

Does anyone think we’re looking to draft more WRs?

    • D's avatar D says:

Prewitt is really good hybrid safety type I’d really like to get him with one of our 5ths if he falls that far

  94. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

Almost all the players I my wish list are still on the board except ramik Wilson

And we have a ton of picks coming up

  95. D's avatar D says:

Tim waller us a te/wr hybrid we could take him as a seam te

  96. The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

    There goes Kwon!

    • Wyoming85's avatar wyoming85 says:

      To Small

      • The Flying Pig's avatar The Flying Pig says:

He’s kinda of like wheeler but a better tackler

I’m not worried about size so much
I just want them to be fundamentally sound

Sometimes Kwon is a bit too aggressive though

  97. D's avatar D says:

Couple decent rbs just came off the board. At this point I’d take artis-payne

  98. steveccnv's avatar steveccnv says:

After watching his tape I can see why they waited so long to get an Olineman. I’d like to see tape where they show every offensive snap, but I haven’t found it yet.
