TOM BRADY HAS BEEN SUSPENDED BY THE NFL
Here are some excerpts from the statement the NFL released yesterday:
The New England Patriots were notified today of the following discipline that has been imposed for violations of the NFL Policy on Integrity of the Game and Enforcement of Competitive Rules relating to the use of under-inflated footballs in the AFC Championship Game of this past season:
For the violation of the playing rules and the failure to cooperate in the subsequent investigation, the New England Patriots are fined $1 million and will forfeit the club’s first-round selection in the 2016 NFL Draft and the club’s fourth-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft. If the Patriots have more than one selection in either of these rounds, the earlier selection shall be forfeited. The club may not trade or otherwise encumber these selections.
Quarterback Tom Brady will be suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2015 regular season for conduct detrimental to the integrity of the NFL. Brady may participate in all off-season, training camp and pre-season activities, including preseason games.
Commissioner Goodell authorized the discipline that was imposed by NFL Executive President Troy Vincent, pursuant to the commissioner’s disciplinary authority under the NFL Constitution and Bylaws and the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the NFL Players Association.
Former Dolphins and current Vice President of Football Operations Troy Vincent poured on the glory that some are calling punishment. He stated:
Here, there are several factors that merit strong consideration in assessing discipline. The first is the club’s prior record. In 2007 the club and several individuals were sanctioned for videotaping signals of opposing defensive coaches in violation of the Constitution and Bylaws. Under the Integrity of the Game Policy, this prior violation of competitive rules was properly considered in determining the discipline in this case.
Vincent Continued: Another important consideration identified in the Policy is ‘the extent to which the club and relevant individuals cooperated with the investigation.’
The Wells report identifies two significant failures in this respect. The first involves the refusal by the club’s attorneys to make Mr. McNally available for an additional interview, despite numerous requests by Mr. Wells and a cautionary note in writing of the club’s obligation to cooperate in the investigation. The second was the failure of Tom Brady to produce any electronic evidence (emails, texts, etc.), despite being offered extraordinary safeguards by the investigators to protect unrelated personal information. Although we do not hold the club directly responsible for Mr. Brady’s refusal to cooperate, it remains significant that the quarterback of the team failed to cooperate fully with the investigation.
Finally, it is significant that key witnesses — Mr. Brady, Mr. Jastremski, and Mr. McNally — were not fully candid during the investigation.

It does not get much better than this in the offseason.
Over the next few weeks you will see talking heads like Heath Evans and Teddy Bruschi try to defend Tom Brady. You will see Cheatriots fans rationalize absurd scenarios where “Tawmy Brady” is “Gawdlike” and was too busy saving a baby from a burning building to cooperate with the investigation. Enjoy watching everyone scramble to defend a cheater. But remember, he is no less a cheater.
There will be an appeal. Brady’s camp will insist the NFL is wrong and there is no evidence submitted. People will get excited about Jimmy Garoppolo. Talking heads will say remember 2007 when the Cheats when undefeated until the Super Bowl. Expect the “Bill Bellicheat will have this team ready” one liners. Bob Kraft is probably already plotting to accuse world leaders of conspiring against the Cheatriots.
Blah Blah Blah. Who cares. Enjoy this result. We’ve known about these cheats for years, we knew it was going to come out eventually, we know its probably worse than just deflating footballs…my prediction, this is just the start.

I think Moving the chains went downhill after T-Rock left. Jim Miller is the most biased homer “analyst” (nearly choked as a typed that) ever. He is so far up Tom Brady’s ass that he can quite literally see things through Tom’s eyes and no other way.
Pat has disappointed me too, but in truth, when callers bring good points to the table Pat addresses them with an open mind. The last few days Jim Miller is basically shouting down every caller who calls in and supports the punishment and painting them as though they don’t understand what they’re talking about. I thought about calling in, but I don’t really care to be shouted down and talked over by that prick.

Thanks for the links to the Wells report. As I felt about his work with the Dolphins, I find it thorough and credible, and his findings are well reasoned.
There are text messages between the two equipment handlers referencing Brady’s unhappiness with the balls in the Jets games where Brady acknowledges in his conversation with Jastremski (the co-worker of McNally (who was referred to by both himself and Jastremski as “the deflator”) that it must be “a lot of stress” for McNally. Brady in his interview with Wells denied even knowing who McNally was.
The kicker from me was the text messages referencing needles. “I’m gonna give you a needle”,
Jastremski: “Can‟t wait to give you your needle this week :)”
McNally: “Fuck tom….make sure the pump is attached to the
needle…..fuckin watermelons coming”
A week later Friday before the Bears game:
Jastremski: I have a big needle for u this week
McNally (the Deflator):Better be surrounded by cash and newkicks….or its a

Jastremski lied about how “He” was referencing in the above text. McNally admitted to Wells that he understood it to be a reference to Brady.
My take:
In the end, the fact that 3 members of the org at a minimum were behind the ball deflating scheme, means the Club penalties, IMHO, are well founded and appropriate. There is a reasonable expectation that the Patriots organization should be cultivating a culture of compliance and not failing to supervise it’s employees to the point that they could perpetuate an ongoing cheating scheme threatening the integrity of the game, the league and the Pats. I think Tom should have gotten 8 games at least though. He instigated the scheme, and he failed to fully cooperate with the investigators (as did the club).
And if the NFL cuts the suspension what does it say about them? They handed out a suspension and penalty and now you hear how it was too much and maybe it should be cut so everyone can get to a happy medium. WTF?

In fact, while listening this morning, Bob Papa seemed to think the punishment was unfair. I didn’t hear enough from Solomon Wilcots to know how he felt either way, but Papa was definitely on the Patriots and Brady’s side.
That’s fine, but I’M killing Jim Miller. His commentary has been an embarassment to me as a long time listener of a show that’s supposed to be about open minded learning and football intelligence. He played for the Pats during his career, and he’s a notorious homer. I’m very disappointed that Pat’s show took on someone who practices that sort of closed mindedness and talks over and down to callers.

That makes sense. They actually don’t work on most Fridays. Bill Lekis just airs the best segments/interviews from the other 4 days. I tend to listen in our afternoons which is evening time for you and probably explains why you don’t listen to that show as much. I don’t listen to the early shows as much and it’s been quite some time since I heard Papa and Wilcots (thank god on the latter, can’t stand that dude. Makes up vocabulary words to sound smart) as well.

I really don’t think the NFL is going to cut the suspension. It’s a minimum 1st offense suspension for other transgressions, and it’s an integrity of the game issue. I think if someone told me it was too harsh, I’d probably have told them it was only miraculous restraint on my part that prevented it from being an 8 game or full season suspension.
Time will tell…

I said the same thing regarding the suspension last night. The NFL isn’t happy with Brady for not cooperating in the investigation, and IMO the only way that gets reduced is if he turns over his phone, which he is not going to do because that could further incriminate him.
And how does cooperating and proving he’s guilty help him get the suspension cut? That’s what I don’t get.
It won’t now Tim, He probably would have received a lesser suspension if he would have been honest from the get go. That ship has sailed.
I’ve heard that the Patriots (and Brady’s) lack of cooperation may have added to the penalties, but I don’t think anyone can accurately say that his suspension would have been less.
The Patriots and their fans are up in arms at the NFL at the moment because of the penalties the league assessed as a result of their finding that the team likely tampered with footballs used in the AFC Championship game, but one of their AFC East rivals has no such gripe with the league right now.
Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald reports that a spokesman for the league has confirmed that the NFL found the Dolphins did not violate rules against tampering with players on other teams before signing defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh as a free agent.
I don’t get people who say, they would have won anyway so why does it matter. It matters because they wouldn’t have done it if it didn’t make a difference. Why is that so hard to understand? Also, who’s to say they would have made it to the championship game in the first place had they not been gaining an advantage in other games. I’ve seen it mentioned that the Raven’s also said they thought the balls were deflated in their game against them and the score was much closer in that game. No one will ever know how it would have played out had there been no unfair advantage. If Brady had nothing to do with it he would have had no problem handing over his phone and any other information to assist in the investigation. He didn’t. Actions of a guilty person who knew it would prove he cheated. Seems pretty simple to me.

That’s how I feel as well Herd. All those who downplay whether it would have made a difference fail to answer why they did it in the first place. Keep saying it’s much ado about nothing, but they went through an awful lot of trouble to do “nothing”.
The only defense I see for cry brady is they used spygate against him, when it was the FO that was behind it and not him. In golf he wouldn’t been given a lifetime ban.

I don’t agree it’s bad for the game, everyone not a cheats fan is smiling, except maybe those that thought he should’ve gotten more. All the BS calls that the cheats have gotten forever, all the cheating they’ve done in the past might actually be catching up to them. Teams on top don’t get calls and other things their way forever, Steelers/Cowboys not included in this discussion.

It is the middle of May, and NFL teams will not hit the field for meaningful games for another almost four months. That does not mean teams are not better, or worse, than they were last year, given the completion of the NFL Draft and the majority of free agents having signed. How does the league stack up, at least on paper? USA Today posted their newest 2015 NFL Power Rankings yesterday to try to order the league.
Before we get to where the Miami Dolphins landed on the list, we will run through the top ten, according to USA Today. In no surprise, the Seattle Seahawks are sitting on top of the board, with the GReen Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos, and Baltimore Ravens finishing the top five teams. After the four-game suspension for Tom Brady, the New England Patriots are sixth, followed by the Carolina Panthers, Philadelphia Eagles, and Buffalo Bills. To round out the top ten, USA Today has the Miami Dolphins.

Yesterday, we took a look at Football Outsiders projecting the Dolphins to end the season with an 11-5 record – which, when they updated the standings for the Brady suspension, would make Miami the number one overall seed in the AFC – and now a top ten team in power rankings in May? People seem to be noticing that Miami is putting something together.
That also means three of the four AFC East teams are currently in the top ten teams in the league (the New York Jets are 21st). Is the division really climbing back to being the toughest division in the league?

I really pounded the table for Jeffro to sign this OG back in 2011 when he was a UFA at the end of his rookie deal. Looks like he kept being a top tier OG. Another stellar Iowa OL.
We can only hope that our Douglas or someone else turns out to be close as good.
The Ravens still hope to extend contract-year RG Marshal Yanda.
LG Kelechi Osemele is also headed into the final year of his deal, and the Ravens didn’t address guard in the draft until the fifth round. Although he’s going on 31, Yanda graded out as Pro Football Focus’ No. 1 guard last season. Yanda has missed just two games over the past six years.
Only reason I even care something was done is because he and the team deserved it. Belichick deserved something too. His team has been behind two cheating scandals now and he has pretty much escaped both without personal punishment. The suspension is about what I expected for Brady the fact they hit the team with some extra was also deserved and fair. I don’t really care that its the patriots that were punished as I am happy they didn’t play favorites with them and for a change they were treated like any other team.

Each of the undrafted rookie linebackers the Dolphins signed ahead of their two-day rookie minicamp felt he belonged.
Individually, Mike Hull, Zach Vigil, Jeff Luc and Neville Hewitt face long odds to be on the field when the season opens Sept. 13 against the Washington Redskins. But with possibly two roster spots open for competition at that position, the linebackers all hope they showed coach Joe Philbin and the front office that they deserve more attention after the camp ended Saturday.
Philbin and his staff rotated the four at each of the three linebacker spots, and the coach said all of them are smart and instinctual enough to compete for a role on the team. The Dolphins — who did not select a linebacker in the draft — brought in those players primarily because of their ability to play multiple positions.
“I like the group that we brought in,” Philbin said Friday. “They seemed to be guys that are real serious. They’ve been productive players in college, and that’s the one thing. They made tackles. … It’s early to tell, but I like the way they did things today.”

Ken, Lynch isn’t that slow. 4.75 in 40 & a nice 4.35 20yd shuttle as well as 1.67 10yd split.. Plus he put up 28 reps. Not bad for the big guy 6’5 258.
Hope he has no physical set backs and we’ll see if he can compete!

Agreed. I like Lynch. I watched a lot of Georgia ball over the last few years and I think Lynch is a gamer and will be a good red zone threat.
I was very impressed with Jeff Luc on Finsiders. But of course just liking a guy’s personality does not mean he makes the team. But he is a known ball-stripper and hits like a truck, two things we have needed at ILB for a while now.
He runs a 4.6 40 so maybe he can also cover RBs and TEs in the flat.
With a lil Luc, he’ll make the team.
We have 11 LB on the 90-man roster, so we only need to cut 2 to get to our usual number that we carry which is 9. Especially if thees new 4 play STs with their 4.6 speed and rep as sure tacklers.
ST was our main weakness last year, so we need some guys who can downfield fast and still stick it to the return man.
Yes, good points on the speedy LB’s that can make sure tackles, contributing as real special ST’ers.

Dear Dan — appreciate your sudden realization about how most ppl outside of Puritanville feel about your team, but really Marsha and Bellicheat being disrespected is news only to you guys. I have seen several polls that say that NE is the league’s most hated franchise. ok the axe has fallen in Boston, so now it’s time to get to work and win the Division on the field. I really think this might be our year. Instead of hoping kids surprise ppl and old vets have something left in the tank as per usual, this summer I think I have more factual reasons to be optimistic than any since Chad Pennington snuck into town during TC. I’m really digging both our Offense & Defense.
Offense, got a franchise QB! Looks to be a great job replenishing as well as upgrading the receiving positions. Added another weapon @ RB too. Now just get the OL settled!
Defense, got one of the top 3 defensive players in the NFL. Return some other very solid vets.
Added depth everywhere on Defense too. Just get the LB corp settled and we should be good there as well.
No more coaching excuses. Talent abounds on this team. Time to Ball.

The Miami Dolphins have signed rookie tight end Tim Semisch, who was a tryout participant during last weekend’s rookie minicamp..
It continues a five-year run of the Dolphins signing at least one of the players they had trying out for the team.
The is 6-foot-8, 267-pound Semisch caught only 10 passes for 100 yards and three touchdowns in his college career at Northern Illinois. He played primarily on special teams as a senior. His best season came in 2013, when he had seven receptions for 84 yards and a touchdown.
