Kong,
Your assessment is spot on with my thoughts (re: Deepgate Codex). Some of the concepts were so bizarre, the worrying was rough but I think I may have lived the book more because of it, and my 2 favorite characters were Carnival and John Anchor. I’d like a book on Carnival, but I get the sense Campbell might be done with this story. I’ve not read any of his other stuff. Glad you found it enjoyable.
The Hollywood area is good for the Fest. Hit me up on my e-mail NJ1Dolfan@yahoo.com, I need to get an idea of price. I loved the hotel we stayed at last time but it was pretty pricey, but it was great too.
Ugh! Just turned on NFL channel to see them playing Superbowl XIX, Dolphins vs 49ers. The Niners compiled a record 537 yards on offense, a record at the time. 😦
Just catching up. I made a post the other day, and it’s surely a bit of arrogance, but I think it spurred a fantastic conversation, one that I learned from. Did my perspective change? Maybe a little when Piggy pointed out that our cultural values are predicated on the bill of rights and therefore all censorship should be considered bad. Does the right of the General Lee usurp the right of TV Land? I’d say probably not. They’re both non-human entities.
In the end, in response to Mike, I think Ken said it all best. Ken for president!

The confederate flag. Should it be banned, should Dukes of Hazzard be pulled from TV LAND, and should a Christian worshipper be forced to make a gay wedding cake when they can’t tolerate that lifestyle?

1. Yes from government grounds
2. That is up to TV land to decide
3. Yes it’s their job. I have to represent a holes I don’t like
I had a problem getting my head around #3, but I can’t find an argument that adequately counters it; Dr.’s have to save murderers, cops have to protect criminals, Generals have to send their troops into harm’s way…
I hear ya Try. It’s a fine line when personal beliefs/freedoms are put at odds with duty, but a sense of duty is what established our civil liberties, and in the name of doing our jobs, every one of us has had to compromise on one of our personal beliefs at one time or another.

Packers TE Andrew Quarless reportedly arrested for firing a gun twice in South Beach http://wp.me/p14QSB-9NG9
Let’s see. One NFL player is discharging a gun twice on South Beach; another is tipping night club strippers to the tune of $20,000++ while a former NFL player is snorting cocaine off the shitter!!!! I guess Mrs. OD was right when she said I’m a “boring old fuddy-duddy!”
PIGGY; After working a convention at Innisbrook Resort, about 10 or so miles north of Clearwater Beach, I took Mrs. OD out for dinner. I had prime rib and she had a chicken meal. A Colorado Kool-Aid and a Margarita later, we remain blissfully pork-free! What a way to spend the 4th of July!!
Try ya got a problem with your argument as do you jahn. All the arguments posed represent situations where no choice is there to refuse. Cop can’t say find a different business to protect you, that life the Dr is saving would perish if he doesn’t uphold his oath, and the general date the only ones that can order the troops into battle. In Ken’s argument which is closer is about someone above him choosing to take the case, they could have opted out or if it’s a DA or appointed attorney, again they do not have options, they have been assigned. Ab independent business person who is offering a service that can be obtained by other providers is not the same deal. Douchebag move maybe, but kinda odd for a person to want to force that person to do the business with them instead of seeing out someone more reasonable to work with too. It’s a bad idea to start forcing private business to do what the government wants it to do. Again, loss of business will control whether or not those kinds of businesses stay in business.
I had a hard time following this as well, but upholding civil rights has to take precedence over all other freedoms and that’s how our founders designed the constitution. An individual business’ freedom to do business with whom they want at anytime has it’s rights cut short when their choices infringe on others’ civil rights. We’ve seen this with bus back seats, drinking fountains, and private golf clubs.
Happy Independence Day!
In fact, Happy Birthday, United States of America! I don’t care what they say, you look pretty good for 239 years old.

I’ll have to re-read this when one or both of us is/are sober… Choice is always involved, but then the consequences come into play…
