Just My .02

AFC East Defense Edition..

Hello All:  I read over the discussion on the blog the other day about AFC  East Defense Rankings , specifically d-line and LB and  remembered an article in an Athlon Magazine I have for 2015 Season ranking all Defensive positions .. I figured  WTH , let’s see if I can put together some sort of analytical mumbo jumbo , and see where it leads.. So here I go !!!

They broke the Defense into the following :

DT top 30 NFL

DE 3-4 top 20 NFL

DE 4-3 top 30 NFL

ILB top 20 NFL

OLB 3-4 top 20 NFL

OLB 4-3 top 20 NFL

CB top 30 NFL

S  top 30 NFL

Taking into account (for now possibly) Just the front 7 we have the following..

Miami

DT #1 SUH ,

DE # 1 Wake, # 18 Vernon,

ILB  #16 Misi

OLB # 7 Jenkins

N.E

DT 0

DE 0

ILB #2 Hightower,#3 Collins

OLB #15 Jones,# 19 Ninkovich

Buffalo

DT #2 Dareus, #5 K Williams

DE # 9 M.Williams # 14 Hughes, # 29 Wynn

ILB # 12 Brown

OLB # 9 Bradham

NY

DT #19 Harrison

DE #2 Richardson, #3 Wilkerson

ILB # 14 Davis , #19 Harris

OLB # 13 Babin

Based on sheer number of players, Buffalo would have the Most Ranked players in this article with 7, However , 3  of these are DE who would not all be on the field at same time, so realistically 6 starter positions.

Jets come in with 6 players all in starting positions

Miami has 5 Players all in starter positions

New England only has their 4 LBers..

Brsdysuh

(photoshop work done by Manitoba)

So next up I had to devise some sort of weighted scoring platform, so I figured try the following:

On List – 1 Pt

Top 10- 2 Pts

Top 5 – 3 pts

# 1 – 4 Pts

Drumroll Please…

In 4th place with 8 Pts we have NE..

In 3rd place with 10 Pts we have NY

In 2nd place with 12 Pts we have the Beloved Dolphins

And the point total Winner Based on all 7 players with 13 pts we have Buffalo

So My .02 .. In a nutshell this is gonna be a DAWG FIGHT , Buffalo’s entire Line plus 1 back up make this list.. We have #1 DT and DE (4-3) and get no respect for the rest of a tough D-line outside of Vernon at # 18 .. Jets have #2 and #3 DE , so ya can figure they are gonna bring the Wood.. NE has their entire LB corps on the list, so they will be tough at the second level, but possibly not a ton of up front presence ..

I am leaning toward our LB Corps being a pleasant surprise especially with the presence of MR SUH and Earth Wake eating up double teams up front. I like what I hear in a comparison between Zack Thomas and either Luc or Hull (sorry I mix them up) .. I believe McCain, and Tripp will be much improved, and Paysinger will be no slouch..

Improved Secondary play and the Hopeful Surprise/Steal of the draft Lippett will give our back end the opportunity for more takeaways, which will benefit both sides of the ball..

Call me a Homer if ya like but, barring a repeat of the deluge of injuries we suffered toward the end of last season I see this team at no worse than a 2nd place finish with a 10-6/ 11-5  record being very possible.. Go Phins and See ya at the Fest…

    Thanks for contributing

I think its going to be a dog fight too
I don;t think the 3 other AFC East teams building up the DL bodes well for the cheats

the big issue with Buffalo is the QB position

Thanx guys… and good job adding pics Son,i especially like the Muffs on the left .. Lightfoot would be better than Anne Murray … Buffalo and the Jests have big issues at Qb.. Gotta get to work now… Have fun … and sorry for bumping OD from Tuesday..

Good write up, Toba. The defenses in the AFC East could be nasty sans the Pats. 🙂

  9. stangerx says:

Great analysis Toba! Might be a bit to considered for this crew though. 🙂

Was surprised to see Wake at #1 DE. I think he’s great, but didn’t think he’d be the big kahuna.

  10. son of a son of a shula says:

FFR is right, look at all the attention the braided coconut is getting because of his asinine comments about Danny.
    Ignore
    Ignore
    Ignore
    Total idiotic bullshit.

  11. bat says:

Tim … to summarize, Twitterella was pumping out tweets making the case that Marino simply wasn’t good enough to win titles, and his greatness is romanticized by Fins fans. He dismissed as excuses the point that the running game and D during Dan’s tenure were lacking. He also insisted that Brady is far superior to Dan and has a greater legacy. There was more uninformed idiocy, but that’s the gist of it.

  12. Tim Knight says:

Omar just officially declared himself lord of the idiots.

Marino lead the Dolphins with no defense and running game to three Championship games and one Super Bowl. Without him you could argue those teams may not have even made the playoffs.

Ask people who played with and against Marino if he was good enough. Omar should go back to trying to be a super hero in some little town nobody has heard of so when he gets killed nobody will know. LOL

  13. bat says:

Joe Montana has often said that if Dan were the QB of Joe’s 49er teams he would have 4 or 5 rings. Clearly, Montana lacks the knowledge and insight of the “trained eye” …lol

  14. son of a son of a shula says:

Certainly if Dan was allowed to usurp the rules as well as have refs in his pocket he could match Brady’s level.

  15. bat says:

Tim … Pay no attention to these climate alarmist nitwits. Nobody can accurately predict this nonsense. It’s just fodder for the “sky is falling” crowd

  16. son of a son of a shula says:

Meanwhile Goodell watches STILL how the wind blows and no decision on Brady yet. Roosevelt and Churchill needed less time to decide on D-day than this stupidity.

  17. bat says:

son … Dan just being able to play with these “hands off the QB and receivers” rules would be shattering records and dwarfing Brady’s numbers.

  18. dbolt48 says:

Fuck Omar & all Bostonians. Never forget the home of the Patriots unleashed the ultimate death band that we will never recover from…..New Kids on The Block.

  19. bat says:

son … Goodell is waiting for some big NFL story to pop so it can provide a distraction from his holding up his end of his bargain with Kraft and reducing of abolishing Brady’s ban.

  20. son of a son of a shula says:

Agreed with that Bat. Maybe they can work Sam back into the mix, get him making out on tv again with rainbows all around then scroll at the bottom “Brady suspension lifted, Goodell feels his balls…. are fine”

  21. Tim Knight says:

Bat, I’ve been reading scientists saying we’re likely headed towards a cooling period (mini-ice age) as opposed to an extreme warming period for years when global warming was all the rage. It only changed to climate change for the alarmists once they realized that wasn’t the case. It is true that there was one in the early 1700s and it was still bitter cold during the revolutionary war. It’s also been more friggin cold than hot in recent years. So far we’ve had a mild summer yet the last few winters have been nasty.

  22. bat says:

Tim ..Weather by it’s very nature is changeable and unpredictable. It’s been that way since the beginning of time. The idea that man can have any impact on the weather is arrogant and delusional. A complete fraud.

  23. Tim Knight says:

Bat, I do believe that science can figure out weather patterns. Man making an impact on it on a large scale is something else, which I feel is very much an alarmist ideology wrapped up in other conspiracies. I don’t think suggesting we’re heading for a cooling period is alarmist at all. They’re not saying we’re all going to freeze to death. Just longer and more extreme cold than usual which I already feel has happened. It has gotten colder earlier and lasts longer over the last few years.

  24. The Flying Pig says:

Tim ..Weather by it’s very nature is changeable and unpredictable. It’s been that way since the beginning of time. The idea that man can have any impact on the weather is arrogant and delusional. A complete fraud.

    ****
This is what I say about farts as well
Unpredictable and impossible for pig to have an impact on
    (Piggy farts)

  25. bat says:

Tim … As son said, they can’t get a 7 day forecast right .. It’s all guesswork .. These “scientists” are nothing more than glorified carnival barkers. They produce whatever findings the people who are subsidizing them want. .. All bought and paid for.

  26. Tim Knight says:

Bat, predicting weather patterns and exact weather like 7 day forecasts are totally different things. Like I said, they’re not saying it’s going to be -11 on January 20th in the NE, just longer and more extreme cold periods. Hey I hope they’re off, but I don’t lump all science in with right wing or left wing propaganda which both are well known for, just for opposite reasons. Science should not be political but people are making it that for their agendas and ignoring real science.

  27. bat says:

Tim … That’s exactly the point, it is political and has been for years. The weather is the weather and there’s nothing any of us can do to change it.

    • Tim Knight says:

I agree, I’m not trying to change it. But science can give us a heads up as to what’s happening. When people start denying it for political or religious purposes, or perpetrating it for political agendas, we have a problem. That’s why I don’t listen to political hacks who just follow the party line on science and don’t really know what the fuck they’re talking about, especially some of them who can’t accept evolution or the age of the planet.

  28. bat says:

Tim … I don’t mind scientists giving a heads up, it’s when they then tell you that you have to modify your behavior in order to avoid disaster that I dismiss them as agenda driven hacks.

    • Tim Knight says:

Agreed, and political agendas have their hack scientists for just that, specifically to curb capitalism.

  29. wyoming85 says:

You mean to tell me that all this time I’ve been driving around in my truck waiving the rebel flag, smoking and throwing out plastic bottles is not causing global warming!

    What a waist of time!

  37. Tim Knight says:

    Definitions from Omar’s Dicktionary:
    Objective: Whatever my opinion is.
Refreshing: A new pair of sneakers.
    Journalist: See Objective.

  38. Al in MIA says:

    Rock,
He honestly thinks what he said about Marino is analytical (wins relevance for QB).
As if coaching had nothing to do with it (Shula’s inability to find a running game as Shanahan did for Elway) or a defense that ranked higher than 14th overall during Shula’s time.
Even looking at NE SB win years, they always had top 10 defenses and a functional running game cause of their OL.

    • Tim Knight says:

The biggest problem with those defenses was they couldn’t stop the run. It was ridiculous. Then they got just as bad against the pass. I always felt a good defense would have been enough even without a good running game. But opposing offenses kept Marino off the field by running it down our throats.

    • Al in MIA says:

Agreed Tim. I still have bad memories of those swing passes to Thurman Thomas that no slow LB miami had could stop :(. Speaking of, it was crazy to see Thomas end his NFL career in Miami LOL.

      • Tim Knight says:

Remember that game where they ran Tasker on like 3 end-arounds and our LBs couldn’t stop that either? Ugh!!!!

  39. Al in MIA says:

    Tim,
I thought 1993 was the Fins best chance with Marino but unfortunately that was the year Marino blew his achilles out. Can’t believe that team got to 9-2 after the infamous Leon Lett gaff on Thansgiving Day with a 3rd string QB starting!

    • Tim Knight says:

Lost the last 5 games of the year. The 1990 and 1992 teams were pretty good too. They were starting to turn the defense around.

  40. D says:

Man Omar has been on like a 2 day rant about how delusional Dolphins fans are about how good Marino was lol…he has spent like 2 days now tryingto make a point that Dan Marino just wanst that good… this guys is a fucking insane person…

    • D says:

Nevermind i see you guys are talking about that right now lol……

    • stangerx says:

Big Q is why would a Phin’s writer go there even if he thought it true. All I can come up with is he wants attention.

      • D says:

He wants to seem smarter or more football enlightened, so he thrwos up stats to make it look like he has successfully challenged the common perception and proven it wrong, therefore being smarter than everyone else.

Truth is any moron off the streets can tell you Marino was one of if not the most gifted QB’s ever, and that the success he had with what he had around him far exceeds that of what many other QB have done. He compared his percentage to Brady, but Marino was hitting 5k yards when DB’s were practically allowed prison rape receivers on national television, vs Brady and the you cant even look at the receivers wrong now.

Its a stupid argument he is making and impossible to prove to him that he is wrong, so its just a matter of a delusional dingleberry whom, protected by the internet feels empowered enough to tweet this moronic nonsens from his toilet and chastise people for not completely agreeing with every word of it.

  41. Al in MIA says:

It’s kind of a late post but since we have a few history fans on his board… Happy Bastille Day
    #AgeOfEnglightenment #RightsOfMan

  42. Al in MIA says:

    D,
It started as a Brady > Marino argument I guess and evolved to something else.
Omar likes to just get people to argue and believes the casual fan is stupid.
Which begs the question, if he thinks they are stupid, and he believe’s he’s right, then why bother preaching to people that can’t comprehend (according to him) LOL. Insanity right there.

  43. olddolphan says:

THE BEST WAY TO TREAT MR. FOOTBALL RETARD HIMSELF (AKA “Omar”) is to IGNORE him. We all know he is a racist. We all know he is agenda driven. Very sorry for your loss, Tim.

    • herdfan says:

Have a drink and think of some good memories. He wouldn’t want you to be sad when you think of him. Easy to say, hard to do but it’s how I’ve dealt with the loss of my Dad.

      • Tim Knight says:

I hear ya Herd. I’ve lost a few loved ones in recent times and it always makes me think about mortality. I miss these people and that’s all I can say.

We’re having a party this month on my birthday (just happens to be the date) to remember him and celebrate all of our 50th birthdays. We will toast and cry and tell stories and listen to music that reminds us of our youth. Most of us have been friends since we were 14, some earlier in different circles. If he can look down upon us, he will and he’ll be happy. 🙂
