Wedge Scouting Report: Myles Jack

MylesJack6Wedge ID

Versatility Versatility Versatility!  That is how a great intergalactic alien destroys the most planets.  One day you gotta be a high power laser beam the next, you might have to be a vicious intestinal virus – YUK!

Just like intergalactic aliens, some football players thrive on this versatility.  Let me introduce you to Myles Jack.  But do yourself a favor and don;t get as cozy as this Virginia player.

MylesJack5

First, meet Myles Jack the linebacker.  At UCLA Myles Jack is listed at 6-1, 232 pounds.  He plays inside linebacker for the Bruins.  Its at linebacker where that versatility is on full display.  In two years at UCLA, Jack had over 163 tackles, three interceptions and one forced fumble.

UCLA Athletics - UCLA Bruins Football versus University of Nevada Wolfpack, Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA. August 31st, 2013 130831_FBC_913.NEF Copyright Don Liebig/ASUCLA

Jack plays in the high powered PAC-12, so you know he knows how to cover.  He reminds a lot of people of his former teammate Eric Kendricks.  But some scouts think Jack is even better.  He has instincts, aggressiveness and toughness.  Jack is a complete linebacker, in addition to his tackling and his coverage he can help out on blitzes too.  See what I mean about versatility.

MylesJack4

And it doesn’t there!  Myles Jack is not just a versatile linebacker.  He is a versatile football player.  So much so that UCLA, in a growing trend in College Football, gave him some carries at running back too.  Actually 66 carries in the last two years.  He has gained a little under 400 yards but where Jack stands out s in the redzone where he has scored 10 TDs in the last two years.

MylesJack7

Make no mistake about it tough, Myles Jack will be earning his paycheck as a linebacker in the NFL.  His versatility intrigues me.  He reminds of this knife I picked up in Switzerland…um…the Switzerland in Venus.  If Myles Jack was an Alien Weapon of Destruction, he would be a Venusian Swiss Army Knife.

MORE truly superior info from Jordy/Pigster!! – – SAW Myles Jack play a couple of times last season. This guy is a PLAYUH!!! Thanks so much, Mr. Piggy!

READ Try Pods post RE: the former Christian minister who might want to machine-gun all gays!!–I’m sure Jesus would approve that – – NOT!! – – Just another example of a person who wants to hide behind the phrase “religious freedom” as an excuse to commit mayhem/murder on those with a different viewpoint. That makes him no better than the Shiite sect or the Sunni sect of Islam, both of which use “Allah” as an excuse to murder members of the other sect!! –I have ALWAYS believed that religion drags mankind down and does NOT uplift him. Indeed, most WARS have been fought over a difference of religion. Those who can NOT tolerate differing religious viewpoints ARE NOT GOOD AMERICANS!! – – They need to go somewhere else where only ONE religious viewpoint is tolerated.

    • Try Pod says:

And the saddest part is religion, as it’s first obligation, should be to lift people up; instead, it makes its followers feel superior by putting those who do not follow it’s doctrine down, giving the perception of being “raised up”.

  3. Brian in NY says:

Nice work Piggy. I’ve seen him play a few times over the years and in the games I have he’s been an absolute beast. Intriguing prospect for sure.

  4. Tim Knight says:

Try, religious doctrine is what leads people to those kind of extremes though. They cite the bible as the law and reasoning.

    • Try Pod says:

Everything is open to interpretation; isn’t it the obligation of those involved to promote the best parts of something?

      • Tim Knight says:

Of course, but that is where the extreme ones draw their ideology. Killing in the name of God. There’s a lot of that going on.

      • Try Pod says:

I guess it’s a chicken-egg thing.. I think a few are predisposed to the extreme, and the majority would just as soon get along. But it’s those with the biggest mouths and the angriest speech that get attention. I think most people use religion as a way to find some purpose for being here. There are others (minority) that use it to promote their interpretation, which in most instances is not what I believe was the intened message.

  5. wyoming85 says:

We shouldn’t even pay attention to Myles!

We are NOT going to be picking that high!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

    • Tim Knight says:

I don’t pay attention to any of them this time of year. 😉

    • The Flying Pig says:

I tend to think most LBs aren’t going really high int he draft

Even though Myles is a guy that appears to have an impact each game
I would not be surprised to see him go late 1st round or 2nd round

Think about guys like kendricks, perryman, Shaq thompson and anthony and where they went
Anthony was the 1st off the board

I liked all those players – but I guess it was a weaker LB draft

Still the trend now is to have versatile LBs who are good in coverage
and the position, like RB, is decreasing in value

So it might be able for the Dolphins to land a guy like Myles with the 32nd pick of the draft
      😀

Also its way too early to pen some one in as a top 15 type player

We will talk about Myles again in February to see where he is.
For now he is a guy who is fun to watch

So I recommend every watch a UCLA game this college season to watch him

      Also its worthwhile to watch
      FSU – for Ramsey (S)
      UF – for Hargreaves (CB)
      and Baylor for Oakman (DL)

those are my early guys worth watching
      all defense
Hargreaves is probably the only one I would call a sure thing to go top half of the draft b/c he is a shutdown corner and they tend to go high

  6. son of a son of a shula says:

I wasn’t able to post all weekend so I have to say RIP to Bill Arnsparger. He will forever be a part of the Undefeated season and was a great coach.
(Figures I get to do a tribute to Stabler but not one of our own greats)

  7. Tim Knight says:

I haven’t seen GD here in awhile. I hope all is well with him and he’s on a nice long vacation.

  8. Tim Knight says:

“The Confederate flag does not represent hate. A lot of Americans died for that flag,” one member of the KKK said, according to CNN affiliate WOLO.

Says a member of the KKK. Oh okay! There’s a good amount of absurdity in that statement. LOL

  9. Tim Knight says:

Piggy, Thompson was the first LB who isn’t a pass rusher taken. If you’re not a pass rusher, LB is no longer a premium position. Too many sub packages with nickel and dime these days.

    • The Flying Pig says:

      I agree
      that is what I meant
Myles is a true LB not a pass rusher
I don;t think he is considered a “premium” player

  10. Tim Knight says:

Try, I agree with what you said. No doubt too many people (millions/billions) have misinterpreted their religion’s message to use it for their own selfish causes. That’s really what it is, selfishness. The desire to make things the way you want it to be.

  11. son of a son of a shula says:

Piggs, you’re right we should. I’ll get it together later on tonight

  12. Tim Knight says:

Son, just remember Piggy’s not wearing pants so if you guys work on that together, be careful where you put your hands. LOL

  13. stangerx says:

Great write-up Pig. Thanks to you I’m gonna know at least a few of the names even before draft prep starts…..and LB has to be top of the 2016 wish list.

    • Tim Knight says:

I don’t think it necessarily will be. At least not in the top rounds.

      • stangerx says:

Lots can change, but if we drafted right now think LB would be a top 3 pick. But hey — somebody breaks out this season like Jenkins did and we won’t even be talking about it in April.

  15. wyoming85 says:

A lot of people born in america died for the Confederate Flag!

Since I’m not a KKK member it has more merit now?

    • Tim Knight says:

It’s funny because being a KKK member is being part of a hateful organization and dying for that flag was in part to keep a way of life that was also hateful. So being an admitted KKK member and making that statement about dying for the flag contradicted his initial point. LOL

I knew they would come out of the woodwork eventually and confirm exactly what everyone already knew.

      • D says:

Dying for e flag was a duty as a member of the confederate army. Tim, as in any war there are two sides and as much as one side feels completely vindicated believing they were on the right side, so does the other group. The war was started by the North, the south actually took a more peacful route to succeed. There also were more than just slavery at the core of why the war occured, so its not so black and white like your painting it.

      • D says:

I dont disagree with your viewpoint on isolated uses of the flag, but your broad brush statements arent accurate.

  16. wyoming85 says:

Jahn you know anything about this guy?

  17. D says:

I like him as a safety TBH. I dont see him turning out to be a really solid ILB, for much the reasons i wasnt high on Kendricks. At college level, their pure athleticism covers for lack of size that wont be as easy to do at the next level. I know this always spurns the debate of ZT, but again, there are plenty more examples of size being a hindrance than there are ones o defying the odds. His speed, coverage skills, etc makes me think he would play WLB very well, or i believe with his instincts, athleticism, etc he would easily transition to safety and be a stud there. He compares more to me to a formaer PAC 12 rival in Shaq Thompson, than Kendricks.

    ———————————–
Again Tim, come on man. You’re much more level headed than this. There are all people in all walks of life that do bad things and feel completely justified within their own morality for doing so. Id argue that religion can/should be the rules for not acting that way, so to me its only the ones not truly following the religious doctrine that wind up making the rest look bad. They cite the bible, but they apparently dont really READ the damn thing, because i have read it and a lot of people interpret it the way they want to. Again, people are evil, the religion isnt.

    • Tim Knight says:

What do people cite when they make their hateful comments against gays?

I do happen to think indoctrinated religion is evil at its core. It robs people of free thinking.

It is 10 more days until the start of the #Dolphins training camp. Are Miami tweeps ready?

  20. stangerx says:

Lets start with the KKK are frick’n idiots, but just cause they embrace the confederate flag in their hate doesn’t mean there is a bigger and more understandable issue involved.

Grew up in the Northeast and when I graduated moved to Richmond, Virginia……capital of the Confederacy. All of a sudden you never heard about the “Civil War”……instead it was the “War Between the States.” I’d heard that one before, but another term came up too, “the War of Northern Aggression.” Almost wanted to laugh first time that came up, but it came out of the mouths of good people I otherwise respected.

And hey — this whole country started when the colonies wanted to separate from England. On what moral right did the then United States say 80-some years later that some states couldn’t do the same?

    • Tim Knight says:

The Constitution as a united nation. Wasn’t it signed from reps from both the north and south? They made a pack.

      • Tim Knight says:

        ^pact

      • stangerx says:

That would be the argument on the other side. But also keep in mind that at the start the federal powers where very weak. It almost was a state confederation. Moved on from there. There is at least though an argument for the South to say it was not in the wrong…….absent slavery, but then that was the law when they signed the Constitution.

  21. Tim Knight says:

D, the North didn’t start the war, the Union did in the name of keeping the country a Union. Those of us up North don’t have this pride with the Civil War like the South does. Most people I know up north view it as a shitty war and that we’re glad to be united. Not still acting like we’re separate.

  22. wyoming85 says:

Miami Dolphins ‏@MiamiDolphins 3m3 minutes ago
“We have a lot of weapons in the receiving room.”

  23. Tim Knight says:

For instance those of us who live up north we’re referred to as Yankees by the south right? Up north we don’t call the people of the south anything. We’re all Americans. Of course there are some people who refer to people of the south south as rednecks but so do some southerners refer to themselves as that. But not all people of the south fit the redneck stereotype. The north has redneck types too but they’re called hicks up here.

Why can’t we unite under the American flag and call it a day? We’re not at war anymore.

  24. The Flying Pig says:

    Tim

I’m not sure if LB is on our hit list either
Really we have to see how everything shapes up this season

I did not love our LBs and saw it as our weakest unit
but I’m not sure how it will how up during the season, especially given that we might be playign 2 LBs or less a lot

However my feeling is that with a stud like Suh, we might be better served as a team to add a little more talent around Suh…some one like a safety or a LB who can roam free making plays happen behind Suh

I would love a premier pass rusher and one more S/LB just to take our defense up a notch in 2017

but I’m getting ahead of myself…lol

    • Tim Knight says:

LOL, well to me our LB situation was always about getting Misi healthy and finding a SOLB. Jenkins has proven he can play and I think he’s good and could get better. So if McCain pans out and those three are our core we’re in good shape.

      • Tim Knight says:

I also think Tripp will show more this year. I always look for 2nd year players to make more of an impact.

  25. Tim Knight says:

D, you know I don’t think all people of faith are bad etc. I do think religious institutions are not a good thing. It’s one thing to practice your faith, but when it becomes a large institution it becomes like a political party with a set list of rules to follow or you can’t be a part of it. That’s bizarre to me.

  26. Tim Knight says:

Stanger, I get what you’re saying about the Civil War. My point is we’re so far past it and we’re The USA and have been for so long, why continue to have elements of segregation amongst the people? Seems dumb and if a symbol has connections to a bad history towards other citizens, put it away. The white supremacists are going to fly it personally anyway along with their Nazi symbols. But good people don’t have to engage in it.

If there was a flag in the north that stood for something bigoted, I’d be saying the same thing.

I never think of people of the south as the other side. Just the ones who want to remain the other side. People are people to me. You learn to find out if a person is an asshole from any walk of life. LOL

    ————————————–
So if they wont agree to come back you just take it, and on the way you burn everything of value they have so they cant rebuild….. Well thank god for that. Most people in the South know it as a shitty war, because quite frankly they got the shit end of the stick. North wasnt destroyed like the south was, northerner’s farms werent taken from then, they werent driven ompletely into poverty, a status still being felt in many locations here. In fact maybe part of the reason a lot cant let go of it, is because of how shitty they feel it was.

It a perspective thing man, South is proud of their heritage because its all they have left. Heirlooms looted, farms burned, cities reduced to rubble. Im glad we are united again, but i think it was a shitty reason for declaring war, i think there were alternatives to what happened and i KNOW there were more ethical ways to deal with the “rebels” (not insurgents by the way, defenders) than to destroy everything they had.

Oh and you guys definitely have things you call us down here….racist, hicks, hillbillies, you may not say it, just as much as i never say Yankees unless im joking around, but they are said and this is how the north feels about us. We are lesser people to most up there, uneducated, uncivilized, bible thumping inbreds. Dont think you can avoid those much more ugly perceptions of southerners.

Lastly, as for the religion discussion, im about as free thinking as you can be man, You have a bunch of sheep, its true, but im sorry i see sheep everywhere in the world, and that includes atheist, muslims, jews, agnostics, etc. Its not about religion controlling people, its about being so small minded you can be brainwashed, and anytime a group of people get together and the wrong person sees the chance to brainwash them it happens. Politicians do it, some religious leaders do it, teachers do it. Its not isolated to religion or religious leaders.

    • Tim Knight says:

Seriously. nobody I know thinks of people of the south like that without joking like they would about anything else. Seriously there was no northern pride and south bashing that I grew up with. None!

I know the Union Army did a lot of horrible things during that war, but there is no clean war. Again though, it was the Union Army, not a “northern thing” per say. It got made out to be that way because the North had a larger Republican base and a there was a Republican president. Part of that war was about the Republicans not wanting slavery to expand into new territories. Which to me was a moral issue worth fighting for. Not that Republican white people or northerners loved black people because there wasn’t a lot of that as we know.

On religion, institutionalized atheism is absurd. Yeah let’s all gather together to discuss what doesn’t exist. LOL

You can’t really consider atheists as sheep because they don’t follow anything. Most don’t even talk about it and you’d never know. I don’t consider myself one because I don’t really know, I just have a hunch about it.

    —————————————–
Im not overly worried about this flag debate, i just know its not where this all ends and i know its not at the core of the problem. They want to take the flag down, as long as its done state by state, decided by the state, thats exactly how things like that should be decided. I think the point your missing though is that people arent pushing to continue to live segregated. Most here are both proud of and understand fully what country they belong to. What you seem to be misunderstanding is that the negative perception you are broad stroke painting us with in the south is exactly the bigotry you claim doesn’t exist towards us in the north. Down to your reasons southerners want to keep it, you’re assuming the worst of us.

    • Tim Knight says:

No, I’m talking about the people fighting against it and we all have to pretend the racism and bigotry isn’t behind much of it. Everyone says it doesn’t mean this and that.

If it’s so important to the south why do some southerners think it doesn’t belong and others do? What’s the dividing line? I think we all know, some people don’t like to wear their racism on their sleeve and that’s a big part of the problem.

  29. The Flying Pig says:

    D

If you think the perception of the average southerner is bad
    Try being from Florida…lol
Florida has a pretty negative perception across the country

I actually don’t think north vs South is what is used to be
I don’t think people in the north have a negative view of southerners in general

I think most the division now is red and blue states

  30. D says:

Tim i have been told to my face that people in the north thing southerners are stupid in general, it may not exist as a whole there, nor do i really hear people walking around saying yankee all the time down here. My point is, as you said people are people, and they carry the same issues an baggage no matter where they are from. Im not making up this societal bias, it exists.

    • Tim Knight says:

I know you feel that way and have discussed it before. All I’m saying is that it’s never been a big topic for me growing up. Maybe because I grew up in such a diverse area it’s not as prominent. There’s racism and bigotry up here for sure but it’s equal opportunity racism and bigotry. The last thing most northerner’s are spending time complaining about are southerners.

  31. Tim Knight says:

D, remember too we’re not just the north and south anymore. There’s the midwest, southwest, west etc. Maybe it’s people in other regions who feel that way about southerners. Like I said I don’t hear much about it outside of joking around with stereotypes which we all do.

  33. Tim Knight says:

Rock. I know it’s been tough for you. But this divorce seemed to happen quickly. I always thought it was more drawn out and took more time.

    • Rockphin says:

we only FILED today. Now comes the part where we wait for the court date and then comes the hearing…..

It should be pretty quick. I am giving her everything she wants other than alimony and she’s not asking for that so it should be completely uncontested and go quickly.

I am just emotionally devastated. We have been separated for 6 months but some part of me has been in denial. I was shaking so bad after signing the papers with the clerk that I could barely walk back to my car. I had to sit for 15 mins before I could drive.

Thanks for the well wishes guys! Truly.

Now back to your regularly scheduled debates. I don’t want to make the blog about me and I need to run now anyway. Post again soon.
