The Pads are On!

HERE WE GO!!!

photo 2Today is the first day of training camp when the pads come on, early word is the defensive line is dominating the offensive line.  If you are thinking about calling Evan Mathis right now and offering him your first born, slow down.  Suh might have something to do with what is going on so far.  And its early so…

I could oink a bunch of observations from camp, but some days your trotters are tired.  So we can always rely on the gift of photos.

One of these guys is going to dominate offensive lines this season. I’m told Darlington has a great bullrush…

I just checked WQAM and was treated to the duo of Twitterella and Miko Grimes. After about 10 minutes it was clear that these may be two of the most annoying and ill informed people I’ve ever heard. Two morons talking over each other with completely misplaced know it all confidence.

  12. bat says:

NFL networks training camp coverage the past three days has basically been a steady rotation of Cowboys, Jests, Cheatriots, Bills and Broncos with a different team thrown in every couple of hours. .. Fascinating TV.

  13. stangerx says:

bat — I’m actually fine with that. Far prefer to avoid the hype factor. Rather sneak up on folks. Plus the game is played btwn the lines.

  14. The Flying Pig says:

  15. bat says:

Stanger, I’m not looking for them to hype Miami. With imbeciles like Jamie Dukes and Heath Evans around quite the opposite would be true. I would just like to see some coverage of other teams rather than the third report in an hour about how the aging slope head in Denver is handling a new offense.

  16. jetsssuck says:

you know all you out of towners can catch the nightly camp report from local news stations cbs and fox by going to their websites. I think it starts at 11.30 pm but they may have it on website where u can see it anytime.I know it used to have Bokamper hosting it but I don’t know now. I believe one show last 1/2 hour and the other is about 15 minutes

  17. Mike E. says:

Not one thing about Yoenis Cespedes????? WTF! This blog sucks!

    • Tim Knight says:

      LOL

He’s in the lineup tonight right? Give me the lineup?

      • Mike E. says:

He is in the lineup, but I don’t know where for sure. I suspect this

        1 – RF Granderson
        2 – 2B – Murphy
        3 – LF – Cespedes
        4 – 1B – Duda
        5 – C – d’Arnaud
        6 – 3B – Uribe
        7 – CF – Lagares
        8 – SS – Tejada
        9 – P – deGrom

      • Mike E. says:

Cespedes may bat 4th instead, in which Murphy would move to bat 3rd.

  18. stangerx says:

You know Suh is good when this happens.
    ——————————-
”When you’re going against a player like that, a guy that’s going to come out and give you his all each and every play, every day, it’s going to make you better,” said center Mike Pouncey, who confessed after facing Suh and the defensive line in camp, he was often too tired after plays to ”talk trash like I want to.”

    • Tim Knight says:

Yep! It’s the strength of the team. we shouldn’t knock the OL because of it.

Turner said the same thing back in OTAs. Who else will be better than facing Suh on game day?

      • stangerx says:

I won’t knock the OL……but if I was a coach I’d be very interested in who best withstands the storm.

  19. Tim Knight says:

    Mike, I’ll go with this.

    1 – RF Granderson (L)
    2 – 2B – Murphy (L)
    3 – C – d’Arnaud (R)
    4 – LF – Cespedes (R)
    5 – 1B – Duda (L)
    6 – 3B – Uribe (R)
    7 – CF – Lagares (R)
    8 – P – deGrom (L)
    9 – SS – Tejada (R)

  20. Mike E. says:

P Carlos Torres gave up #52 for Cespedes. I think he’s going to wear #72

  21. stangerx says:

Ah those Mets. Wish my team was good enough to be two games from the division lead. 🙂

  22. Al in MIA says:

I don’t know if the Mets will have enough to catch the Nationals.
The Nats have had all kinds of injuries and are still ahead in the division.
They are starting to get healthy (Zimmerman, Werth, & Rendon came off the DL this week) and have sharpened their bullpen up.
Seems the Mets or Nationals will not have a chance at the wild card unless the Pirates or Giants collapse.

    • stangerx says:

Mets are 3.5 back of the 2nd WC. Even if the Nats surge…….lots of season left for that.

    • Tim Knight says:

2 games. We have to win the division. We’re in a 3 game series now. 1-0 as of now. 🙂

The lineup changes with Cespedes, Uribe and d’Arnaud.

  26. Al in MIA says:

It will be interesting indeed to see how it all plays out but the Nats are more talented as a team. They just haven’t been healthy enough to reach their potential.

  28. getterdone says:

    Just dropping by.
Looks like it was a great 1st day with the pads on. Lots of different players to be happy with.

My boy Tanny is said to be looking real smooth, like he’s been doing this for a decade!

    Go Phins!

  29. BoulderPhinfan says:

I want to watch this o-line in a preseason game against real opponents before making judgment. Without Albert it’s really impossible to tell what we got

    • getterdone says:

Like what I hear about Douglas already separating himself @ LG. Looking like Dallas Thomas may have to be a back-up, or go in @ RG if Turner can’t figure a way to slow Suh….lol….maybe even Linkenbach @ RG.

  30. getterdone says:

Jets GM Mike Maccagnan said the Jets have had talks with free agent G Evan Mathis’ agent.
It is unclear what “talks” mean, but it does not sound like anything is imminent. Mathis has likely priced himself out of the market, meaning he will need to either drop the asking price or find a team more desperate for guard help than the Jets and Dolphins. The latter seems unlikely.

  31. Rockphin says:

we are going to be good on Oline. With the competition they will go up against every day plus the mentoring from those same guys plus the reputedly very good O-line COACHES plural we have we should be good.

I am more excited to hear about how good, and consistently good Tannehill is looking.

    • stangerx says:

Think we will at least be OK on the OK given what we have on the end and straight up the middle. What happens at G will determine if we can be better than that.

  32. The Flying Pig says:

  33. Rockphin says:

what I especially like is how the front office has reinforced the team with additions that will compliment Tannehill. Stills and Landry both caught over 75% of the passes they were targeted on (2nd & 4th in the league) last season, Parker was brought in to be a big catch radius / catching machine, (Miller also caught 73.1% of his targets)

I am predicting that Tanny will be a top 10 QB this season in yards, YPG, Comp%, TD’s & QBR

  34. Rockphin says:

Dear Mr. Marino, are you making Tannehill view film with you?

  35. finfanrob says:

you got to love the talk on here like

‘you cant tell anything at practice’ ‘got to wait for game time to see how they perform’

    then:

the online will be better cause at practice they go up against suh and great competition.

    lol, which is it?

  36. Rockphin says:

Either or both Rob. Who are you to say? Hmmmmm? One post might be from a cantankerous Koolaid drinking lolly pop sucking sun bathing idiot though….Cantankerous being the part you should be aware of

  37. finfanrob says:

    rock,

my comment had nothing to do with the team. and i was just laughing at the irony on here at times. so dont get all cantankerous or you will have to suffer the wrath of tim

  38. Try Pod says:

    ( I declare a new slogan for the Phins: #rambotogether )

The Dolphins players still marvel at the type of training they went through one day with the Navy Seals.

It’s been more than a month now since the Dolphins wrapped up their June minicamp by doing some Navy Seals training, but the experience clearly left a mark.

In the case of wide receiver Jarvis Landry, it inspired to don a different look at practice. He’s now wearing a makeshift bandanna in the same mold as Rambo from the “First Blood” movie series.

“I just took a different approach to it, a different mind-set to it,” Landry said. “For me, I think about Rambo. Every tine I think about some army stuff and just that transformation he made when he wasn’t John anymore. He was Rambo. Just for me being able to come out here and play the game that I love at a high level, I wouldn’t say it’s a fashion statement — it’s just a little personality coming out that’s all.”

Center Mike Pouncey, for his part, still marvels at the type of training he went through that one day and the notion that Navy Seals do it on a regular basis.

“Man, that was the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” Pouncey said. “You get a different respect for those guys, the stuff that they have put up with, the training that they have to go through just to protect us on an everyday basis. It opened my eyes to a different perspective about those guys. I really appreciate everything they do because they put us through some things … it was only one day’s worth, so I can only imagine five days’ worth of that. Some guys ain’t going to make it.

“It was a great event. You could tell that everyone was really into it. You didn’t want to let the guy next to you down and so it was really good for our team-building this offseason.”

  41. Al in MIA says:

I’m not yet sold on RT getting to elite but he’s improved every year he’s been in the league in all categories except yards per completion. His yards per attempt is below 7.0 at the moment (probably due to the OL problems to date). I’d like to see him get to 7.3-7.5 (7.5 seems to be the minimum to get to borderline elite conversation. 8 or better is cream of the crop (top 5 QB).

    • getterdone says:

He’s certainly capable of obtaining elite status….IMO. The skill set is all there sans some refinement in a couple spots, which we’ve seen get better each season he’s been here.
The YPC is something I’m not really blaming Tanny on. As you mentioned, it has been a lot of what the OL is doing or not in this case, as well as the WCO system being used, lots of passes to the backs, etc.

I see Stills & Parker getting him firmly into the 7+ YPC range, especially as the OL comes together.

    Al,
tanny just needs to connect on a few long passes this year and he’ll get his average up to 7.5 pretty quick. We need 30 tds from him and hopefully 12-13 ints. He won’t be the problem this year.
