The record rainfall here in Tampa Bay has temporarily subsided. But more, much more, is on the way according to local forecasters. As of a few minutes ago, Tampa International has recorded almost 43 inches of rain this year, with another 2-5 inches forecast by Monday night. That will bring us up to our YEARLY AVERAGE RAINFALL, which is 46 inches per year! Big areas of Tampa’s downtown area are impassable due to local flooding. Same for parts of Pasco County where the Anclote River will crest at over 21 FEET not far from the Tarpon Springs-New Port Richey area. –August, our rainiest month of the year, still has 30 days left to go! At this rate, Tampa will have about 70-85 inches of rain this year!! The city with the highest annual average in the lower 48 states is Mobile, Alabama, which averages around 67 inches per year. My old stomping grounds, West Palm Beach, comes in 4th with just under 63 inches per year.

This change in weather patterns has two major results. 1) more rainfall. 2) fewer, less intense, tropical storms and hurricanes. That’s a trade-off those of us who’ve been through several major hurricanes would gladly accept. You can NOT EVEN IMAGINE THE TERROR OF A CATEGORY 4 HURRICANE UNLESS YOU’VE EXPERIENCED IT!!
    —————————————————–
Meanwhile, mother nature continues to rain on Jameis Winston’s parade over at 1 Buc Place.–They do NOT have an enclosed, weather-proof place to practice, as far as I know. IS THIS AN OMEN OF THINGS TO COME? asked one local reporter. My response? –“Your team will SUCK ‘weather’ it rains or NOT!'”

  4. steveccnv says:

Why do you say there’s a change in weather patterns?

    • olddolphan says:

RECORD RAINFALL CAUSED BY EL NINO, according to local forecasters. It has resulted in below average to well below average numbers of tropical storms and major hurricanes over the last few years. No hurricane has struck Florida since, I believe, the catastrophic years of 2004 and 2005.

Miami Dolphins Training Camp Day 4: OL http://ift.tt/1ST4voK

  6. Ken says:

Back in the states and now ready to go into football mode.

  7. Ken says:

I like that Albert was back in pads. We need him to be healthy. O line is the key once again this season. If it can develop then I think we are team to be reckoned with. If the OL repeats its performance of the last several years then we will remain a middle of the pack squad. I am very interested to see how the OL does this pre-season. I know it’s not going to win every battle in TC with our DL but we need to see that it made progress and to see it to start winning some of the battles.

    • olddolphan says:

KEN: WELCOME BACK!! –I’ll be particularly interested to see the play of our BACK UP offensive linemen. When the inevitable injury occurs to a starting O-Lineman, I’d like to know that his replacement won’t be a sieve!! On July 30, a writer for the Miami Herald said it is NOT a sure thing that Albert will start game one. But I sure hope he DOES!!

      • olddolphan says:

PS: CAN I assume that no more “WHAT MAKE HULK ANGRY” episodes are in the immediate future?

      • Ken says:

Yes OD. I will be getting back into the flow of writing more as TC, pre-season and most importantly the season come around. That usually gets the blood pressure rising enough for the Hulk to make an appearance.

TODAY Joe Philbin admitted he’s uncomfortable with the O-line’s pass protection. The first step is admitting you have a problem.

I was at the woodbury commons outlet stores
    Are you near there?

OD, did you catch my post that my cousin was drafted by the Dolphins in 1969? He hurt his back and that ended his career. He was a Center out of Boston College.

South florida is under watering restrictions in effect because of severe drought conditions to the tune of half the normal rain fall.

There is a couple of major outlet stores that are not that far from me. There are outlets in Clinton and Westbrook that are close. They are right off I-95

Joe Philbin finally admits the #Dolphins offensive line makes him a little nervous http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/miami-dolphins/sfl-omar-and-chris-day-four-dolphins-camp-20150802-premiumvideo.html

Well at least he isn’t feeling queasy yet.

  21. Rockphin says:

Tannehill is drawing on anecdotal evidence from the first three days of training camp. Yes, there have been missed connections. But Tannehill has had as many deep connections in three days as he had perhaps in a couple of weeks the past couple of training camps.

“I worked a lot on it in the offseason,” Tannehill said. “I think it’s going to be big for us. I can see it already. I can feel it. I think those guys out there are excited. We all understand it’s going to be a big factor.”

  22. getterdone says:

    Hal Habib @gunnerhal
Mike Pouncey, on straightening out his act: “It was a collective agreement that I was either going to get better or be gone.”

Hmm, who says Philbin isn’t a leader? 😉

  23. getterdone says:

Bills coach Rex Ryan has named Richie Incognito the starter at left guard.
Ryan told ESPN Bills reporter Mike Rodak that he’s been “blown away” by Incognito’s conditioning this offseason. A year away from football seems to have done Incognito some good. The 32-year-old was a Pro Bowler in 2012 before a bullying scandal sent his career in a downward spiral.

The notorious Jeff Ireland draft bust is running out of NFL chances.

    • olddolphan says:

GDP; Didn’t you mean to say “The notorious draft busts are running out of NFL chances”??? –Speaking of Jeffroe’s busts, when is Jordan due back??

  25. Rockphin says:

I like reading about the dog fight going on every day in practice between Landry & McCain. As long as neither gets hurt I like them going at it 100%. I hope Turner & either Thomas or Douglas steps up their struggle against Suh & co enough to play well against the top Dlines in the league which happen by the way to be on our schedule this year.

In 38 pass attempts from Cassel, Manuel and Taylor in 11-on-11s that I’ve charted, I haven’t logged a single attempt to TE Charles Clay.

Rex is an offensive genius! 😯

    • steveccnv says:

Clay is easily taken out of the offense, when a D wants to, but yeah with single coverage in TC that’s a little odd not to have a single attempt.

Yes, Jeffro has had more failures in the draft than I’m able to stomach. Eggphew is certainly a sizable one.

As for the Doping Mantis Jordan, you should know by now he’s out for all of 2015. So, if he’s not cut, he’ll be back for a cup of coffee and a speedball come NFL 2016.

    • steveccnv says:

We know the backups aren’t good, so let’s wait until the entire Oline is on the field (Alberts). I expect Suh to blowup whoever is playing RG, and I expect Phillips (when he feels like playing) to blowup whoever is playing LG, and Wake/OV are pretty good too, if no one has noticed.

Not making excuses for the Oline, they clearly aren’t getting it done, I’m just not concerned yet. Signing Mathis almost surely means we don’t sign OV/Miller next yr.

  30. steveccnv says:

The mets now have a 2% chance to make the playoffs, according to Elias.
