Dear Dolfans,
I’m sorry…
I know I haven’t been around much. I’m sorry for abandoning you.
You didn’t deserve this…
You see, I was crushed.

When I was a young little football I enjoyed the fruits of Marino to Clayton and Marino to Duper: 20, 30, 40 and 50 yard completions.
I thought it would last forever.
But all good things must come to an end
After 1999 I had a really tough time. No more Marino. It was like I didn’t exist anymore.
I started drinking a lot. Anything to ease the pain. I didn’t want Dolfans to see me anymore.
Sure I made some appearances with Jay Fiedler. But from Fiedler to Marino…well…its just not the same…I’m sure you noticed. And things only got worse.
In 2007 it didn’t seem like things could get any worse. I hit and all time low.

Thankfully Chad Pennington helped me pull out of my funk.
The Dolphins were winning again. They were in the playoffs.
Unfortunately I still had a drinking problem. So every time you saw me I looked like a dying duck
When the Dolfans switched to the strong arm Chad Henne, I thought all my problems were solved.
It was going to be Henne to Ginn deep. No one would stop it.
But Ginn had an affair with the sideline and Henne only had eyes for the check down.

So I abandoned you.
I know you thought I would come back when the Dolphins spent big money on Mike Wallace.
But I wasn’t ready and I stood you up.

But things are different now .
During Sunday’s practice, Ryan Tannehill hit Lamar Miller for 35 yards. I know, I know, that’s a running back. So next there was a 40 yard pass to Rishard Matthews. Followed by another 40 yard pass to Jarvis Landry. And then another deep one to Matthews.
I’m back. I’m sorry I left you Dolfans. Will you forgive me? Will you have me back?
Yours Truly,
The Deep Ball

Yep (on Patriots needing more OG help) :). I liked Groy as a Fins option last year because of physical attributes but he has his technical issues no doubt. I hope Suh and company eat like they are at the China Buffet.
They will, but we’ll just have to then be ready for Checkdown Marsha 😉
Thanks Al

Steelers K Shaun Suisham has a torn left ACL, and will undergo season-ending surgery.
The Steelers’ kicker since midway through the 2010 season, Suisham will be sent to injured reserve. One of the league’s steadiest kickers, Suisham turns 34 in December. Among the free agents available are Billy Cundiff, Shayne Graham and Jay Feely. The Steelers may first try to uncover a young prospect instead of signing an inconsistent veteran.
That will leave a mark!
Their RB, Cameron Stingily, also suffered what Tomlin said appeared to be a serious injury.
From Pennlive.com, “Stingily jogged off on his own power, but it was later announced he was out for the game. Tomlin said the injury could be to Stingily’s meniscus, but wasn’t sure.”
Nice Pics/vids Al… Holy Lighting changes… Love the Sunset shots…
Yea there were thunderstorms off in the distance a bit South of the campus when I first got there but they were apparently moving westerly so after an hour the sun was being blocked by those clouds formations.
Maybe we can deal Sturgis to Pitt for a OG 😉
About the scrimmage at FIU, the one thing that was annoying (not that I didn’t expect it) is that they were charging full stadium prices for food and drinks ($8 a beer; $6 dollar dogs, etc) lol.
That’ll keep people sober and steadfast on their diets.
Also, there is one pic where I show nothing but the field in front of me (without players on field). I couldn’t zoom in because of my phone camera but off in the distance on the 12 yard line marker is Dan Marino with a white shirt. Taylor was next to him at some point (he arrived later and met Marino there where he was perched watching the scrimmage) and is the photo that the Fins website/media outlets showed of them together.
the best thing about the start of football isnt the battles in camp or even the hope of a good season. nope, it is watching all you guys get in a tissy over the things otard says.

May not be a problem….Steelers Offense is being touted to be a high scoring unit this season. They need to be with their rebuilding D.
Entering his 6th season, Misi hasn’t played all 16 games in a year since he was a rookie!!!
Who is going to step up and fill the void ‘when’ it comes?
Luc/Hull and the third amigo, that I mix all of them up.. PS Roster guys..
Thanx again for the suggestions yesterday as well.. Pc is running smoothly with W-7
I like Tripp & Vigil…Hull may need to feed off the Zach Thomas pep talk 😉
YW, so glad that info helped you get back to W& & rid of the overly intrusive W10.
^^^W7 & rid of W10^^
Vigil is the one forget all the time.. I will try to keep a Vigil out for him.. groan…
I can’t hold my breath on Hull since he’s got a worse injury history than Misi :/.

I thought my guy last year Shazier looked pretty good :).
Boykin looked up to speed but then again he’s no rookie.
Speaking of, see the Eagles just lost a corner to a torn ACL? LOL.
was a late round rookie draft pick from 2015 draft. He was though projected to at leas battle for the spot vacated by Boykin. Was coming down to Jaylen Watkins (Sammy’s brother from UF) and that other guy, so i guess real winner this week has been Jaylen.
This is why you always have to laugh at reporters using their eyeballs…
This was Tomlin’s response to questions about Landry Jones’ performance last night:
Re: Overall performance:
“It’s hard to look back at it without watching the film. There were good things and bad things. I’m interested to see what it looks like on tape. I will learn from it. Obviously it wasn’t good enough to win. That’s the ultimate goal. We have to grow from this one and move on.”
—
We know this around here anyway; that what you see doesn’t tell you what the player responsibilities and individual execution was suppose to be (both offensively/defensively). But media members like to fear monger anyway and there will always be those people out there that gobble it up.
Toba,
Zach Vigil:
2014 Played in 14 games. Recorded 20.5 tackles for loss and registered nine sacks.
STRENGTHS: One of the most productive linebackers in college football. Never quits on a play. Active pass rusher who worked well in team blitz scheme. Team leader. Reads pass keys quickly and gets into coverage with depth. Shows awareness in zone and matches up with crossers in his area. Has adequate man-cover skills. Decent hips to open and run. Wrap-up tackler who brings some bang on perimeter tackles. Worker bee who plays with confidence and hustle.
He plays both inside & out.
I heard we’re working him at MLB.
Yes, he blew up Ajayi at the line of scrimmage the other day.
Imagine what he can do behind Suh & Co.
This kid could be a star in a few years….Tripp also. I like both of their quickness & reaction.
Should be sweet after a year of bulking up.
Tripp is the guy with a year of bulking…and Vigil was UDFA this year….I know ya knew that.
He’s pretty strong at 235 or whatever he measured at his pro day but under NFL training/conditioning he should be able to get up to 245-250 range.
wow talk about blowing up a play.. TWICE..one of the other two has been favorably compared to Zach Thomas as well, based on Al’s injury statement on Hull I will guess Luc… hopefully we can stash some these bodies…
Hull would have been drafted without the medical concern. Without injury risk he likely would have been a 3rd-4th rounder if not higher.
I’d like to see Luc or Hull as a FB in short yardage sits if they can’t break into the LB corp.
GDP,
Yep (on Tripp) but I alluded to Vigil needing to bulk up and how effective he can be in the NFL at 245+.
Yep, the future should be bright on that kid.
GD, I can’t get excited about UDFAs until they do something games.
Funny, I can’t get excited about trading up for #3 overall until they do something besides smoke crack. 😉
You know what I mean. To not get drafted something is missing in their game.
True, but sometimes overlooked because of bigger school players, or because of injury, poor play around them, & bad coaching schemes even.
Future Gold Digging Miko’s???

Thanks for the post. I’ve been saying this about Wallace’s ball tracking and route running for two years and got backlash from the Tannyhaters.
I feel vindicated!!!
————————————
What a jackoff this guy is, I do agree with Wallace’s ineptitude, but the whole basis of writing this is to say RT is getting rave reviews in camp for his deep balls, but it’s not necessarily true, because of things that happen in camp.
None of the coaches are raving about his deep ball, they’re just comparing it to the previous yrs and saying how much better it is, you know comparing apples to apples and not the apples to oranges like this guy is saying.
I thought it was good to show Wallace’s poor technique. That’s why I call him crazy legs.
This is the depth chart released by PBP. Some changes to sides and positions at LB.

You don’t have one.
Is there a bigger jackoff of a relevant player in the NFL than Cam Newton? They’ll never win until his maturity level changes, in other words he needs to rid himself of the hood.

Jackoff? really Steve? LOL
I thought while he only presented a few examples he did so in a thorough manner. But I had the same opinion as him last year before I ever saw his article. Wallace ran shitty / inconsistent routes at inconsistent speeds with inconsistent effort. He often gave up on routes, cut off routes and half assed plays. (one handed catch failures, etc)

you just made son’s most wanted list. (at least i think it was him yammering about how great cam is)
Wallace
-1 yard rushing
0 catches for 0 yards
last nights stats!
1 half ass effort on a low pass for a first down!
I think he might put up good numbers for the Vikings when it is all said and done
He put up good numbers for us last year
But you can;t see half ass effort blocking for other guys on the stat sheet
Steve, just going by the first depth chart based on the first 8 practices of TC. I didn’t make any comment about order. What I found interesting was Paysinger was now at WOLB behind Jenkins after being behind McCain at SOLB. Tripp went from WOLB to SOLB. Vigil went from MLB to SOLB. MLB is now Misi, Sheppard and Luc. By no means am I doing cuts because of this depth chart. LOL
Bobby McCain is a 4th corner on one side and I think he’ll make the team.
I’m pretty sure Philbin nor the coordinators have filled out a depth chart.
The point was it’s a meaningless depth chart, it’s just some names thrown together. Sure the guys like Wake, Suh, and Tannehill are in their correct spots, but all the competing positions are written down in whatever order they feel like putting them in.
R E S P E C T
You’re a 19 year old kid. You are critically wounded and dying in the jungle somewhere in the Central Highlands of Viet Nam . It’s November 11, 1967. LZ (landing zone) X-ray. Your unit is outnumbered 8-1 and the enemy fire is so intense from 100 yards away, that your CO (commanding officer) has ordered the MedEvac helicopters to stop coming in. You’re lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns and you know you’re not getting out. Your family is half way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you’ll never see them again.
As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day. Then – over the machine gun noise – you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter. You look up to see a Huey coming in. But.. It doesn’t seem real because no MedEvac markings are on it. Captain Ed Freeman is coming in for you. He’s not MedEvac so it’s not his job, but he heard the radio call and decided he’s flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire anyway. Even after the MedEvacs were ordered not to come. He’s coming anyway. And he drops it in and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 3 of you at a time on board. Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire to the doctors and nurses and safety. And, he kept coming back!! 13 more times!! Until all the wounded were out. No one knew until the mission was over that the Captain had been hit 4 times in the legs and left arm. He took 29 of you and your buddies out that day. Some would not have made it without the Captain and his Huey. Medal of Honor Recipient, Captain Ed Freeman, United States Air Force, died last Wednesday at the age of 70, in Boise, Idaho. May God Bless and Rest His Soul.
I bet you didn’t hear about this hero’s passing, We’ve heard plenty about murders, Health Care, Border security etc. BUT NOTHING ABOUT THE PASSING OF Medal of Honor Winner Captain Ed Freeman. Shame on the media !!!
Humility……..
Plain and simple, it doesn’t get the ratings. The media make their mark by ratings. Just like Omar they’re ratings whores.
FYI NFL Network 09:00 friday Fina Bears
FYI NFL Network 09:00 friday Fins vs Bears
Thanks Toba!
Son,
Thank you for posting that story about Captain Ed Freeman.
He’s an incredible hero. We always hear about and see the idiots we never get to see heroes and strength and courage very often.
Absolutely. Again, thanks for posting. I love hearing stories like this. Both of my Grandfathers fought in WWII, and my Dad served during Vietnam. He was lucky to have never seen action and stayed in Germany for two years. The was a rumor that there was a congressman’s son in his platoon.
I like them too. My mother lost her only brother a Marine in WWII in Iwo Jima and my Dad served in the army in Korea.
I couldn’t even imagine what it would be to have gone through that. My maternal grandfather spotted a kamikaze plane and they shot it down. His destroyer was also hit by a torpedo in the rudder, and they had to be towed all the way home to Va. Beach from the East African campaign. He told me that being towed was the most afraid he was during the whole war because they were so vulnerable. He didn’t talk about it much, as he was a humble guy. I heard the kamikaze story from my grandmother.

So now we have Phillip and Michael Thomas. I hope we can somehow find a player named Tubbs.
BTW Cam isn’t from the hood, he was brought up middle class all of his life. He’s got fire that’s all. While it isn’t smart for your QB to getting in the scrum in training camp it doesn’t make him a bad guy he’s just fired up. And Big!
If anything he’s entitled.
I wouldn’t say entitled either because he certainly didn’t come from wealth. Just a regular kid who happened to be a great athlete and a little smug, lol.
I just meant entitled in that he was probably never told “no” because of his status as a football player in HS and at Auburn. He’s had his ass kissed from early on and most likely had everything handed to him because of his skills on the fooball field.
Oh ok I gotcha, yeah I agree with that
I don’t think Johnny football was either, and that may be the problem.
He and his family are millionaires, aside from the football money.
What I’m saying is 2 kids not from the hood, but act like they want to be. Cam is a punk, and immature at best, he needs to grow up. You could say the same thing about Brady, but when he’s on the field he’s all business.
He’s a spoiled little snot nosed punk. Spoon fed little bed wetter.
Great story on Captain Ed Freeman. RIP sir!
A great American. When I read the story I was thinking of Greg Kinnear’s role in “We Were Soldiers”.
I thought it was kind of cool when my house was randomly selected to participate in an American Community Survey by the U.S. Census Bureau. It’s about 400 questions, varying from ages of household members, to annual income, to assessment of home value. Not so cool anymore.
No one commented on my Jacksonville Jaguar post last night I thought it was hilarious
LOL, I missed it.
Bri, what are complaining about? Every household in Oz completes a census form every few years. Think it is 4 from memory. That is the way the Govt. knows how many people it has living here etc. All sorts of important info gleened from it. One of the questions is about your forebears where they came from. Now South Australia was settled in 1836; note is was a free state not a prison colony, anyway her relatives apparently came within the 1st year. I didn’t have a clue when mine did. So she answers the question “From Pioneer Stock”. My answer is less salubrious” Just a scrubber”.
Now here is the kicker between that form and the next one a family memeber had done our ancestary and it turns out my lot settled less than 6 months after hers. She was miffed I tell you.
Point being is this helps the Govt. know what is going on and important. At least that is the way it works here.

“When I first moved to New England I loved the passion with which people followed their teams. I soon realized there was a darker side, an unreasoning hatred of all things non-New England. They hate other teams, their fans, their cities, players who leave (or were traded) and most of all, any local reporter who says their beloved players or coaches may be mere mortals.
Come on, its just a game.”
Some people take sports way too seriously outside of loving the game. They make it like their a nation who doesn’t get along with other nations. Silly!
It sucks that the NFL fucked us on the preseason package so we might not be able to see much of the games, I was looking forward to seeing which guys really showed up in games and who didn’t.

I’ve been looking for a used car for my son, and we went out to check out some cars yesterday. It’s a pain in the ass, and dealing with used cars is much worse than new ones.
Yep — you have to deal with the fact that you aren’t really sure what you are getting. One of the comforts of buying a new car or even from someone who you know.
Exactly Stanger. Can’t be really confident about making the purchase at all.
Have you thought about buying a pre-owned car from a dealer Mike? It would be a lot less risky, albeit more expensive.
UWant,
It sounded fun until they started asking personal financial questions, which they have access to anyway. It just seemed invasiive. Especially after they sent me a follow up letter three days later saying it hadn’t been done yet, and was required by law that I do it.
*invasive
I had a twitter convo with Prof Lou and Wyo, and Lou thinks Linkenbach will be the starting LG.
I bet it’s Douglas.
Actually Al chipped into the convo as well. Sorry Al! lol
Mike E, pre-owned is the way to go. The dealer can’t sell you a lemon and it’s likely already proven to not be a lemon.

You mean certified pre-owned? Prices are too high on those, my son has a tight budget.
They don’t all have to be recent models. They have some older ones as well, and the dealers can’t rip you off by law. It’s worth looking into. If you want me to help, just text me the details. I LOVE car shopping and finding deals!
The higher you go on mileage the cheaper they get. I mean unless you’re looking at cars like this, then forget it. LOL

LOL, but talk about…
Mike E,
Buy a car model/yr that has a known good mechanical history.
Price on a used car can be negotiated easier than a new car.
Any trade off in maintenance costs associated with a used car vs a new one is easily offset by the insurance cost of a new car.
Always leave yourself a margin of error of ~$1,000 from what your max budget is and what you can get the car for price wise.

I just don’t see the speed Arthur Lynch needs to create separation.
I’d imagine the biggest risk (worst case scenario) in a used car is the transmission going (~$3,000+ job?) followed by a blown engine (blown crankshaft, head gasket, etc) which can run anywhere from $1,500-2,000+.
I haven’t heard much good about Arthur Lynch. But I don’t hear much about the TEs blocking either and that’s his strength.
I also think he wins receptions with his height (high radius) and not speed per say.
Yeah he’s not a speed guy but neither was Fasano and he was productive.

With my first new car the guy who had been servicing it for a couple years did me a big favor. It was a Saab that kept breaking down after like 60k and I was in like every two-three months to fix this or that.
He was an ex mechanic at the local dealer who specialized in them at cheaper rates. Last time I saw him he sat me down and said you got these three things that will either be breaking down or need to be done in the next 10-15 thousand miles. Gonna cost you like five grand…….time to sell. Good guy cause that is money he would have gotten.
I traded it in on my new car and the dealer didn’t notice any of what was coming up.
Yeah but they can’t in turn sell it as certified pre-owned. It has to pass that 150-200 point inspection and you get a warranty.
Well your first mistake was buying a Saab.. Lol
Well it went with his new hat. LOL

Part of why I turned Japanese after that……lesson learned.
LOL @ Bat, even if it did come from Omar. lol
GDP,
Interesting signings today by the Dolphins (Bronson & Thomas).
I liked Thomas as a DB option for Miami a couple years ago due to his ball skills. He was coached by ex Niner DB Tim McDonald who was Fresno State’s secondary coach at the time. Thomas led the nation in interceptions with 8 at during his senior year. He missed his entire junior year with a broken leg.
Unfortunately, he suffered a torn Lisfranc ligament in a foot during his first preseason game for the Skins in 2013 (vs Tenn) and was put on IR. In 2014, prior to the season, he suffered a hamstring injury early in camp & suffered another foot injury (not Lisfranc) towards the end of presason and was ultimately waived but added back to PS. He was activated in November last year and started a few games.
Anyway, this was written about Thomas 6 days ago at ESPN after he was waived by the Skins:
“Thomas’ career in Washington was disappointing. He arrived as a fourth-round pick in 2013 with a reputation for making plays and for being a smart player. But injuries derailed his potential. He suffered a Lisfranc sprain in his left foot the first summer, requiring surgery and ending his season. Last summer, he was slowed by a hamstring injury and then an issue in his left foot. Thomas appeared in eight games last season, starting four. But he was not viewed as a future starter at the end of last season. Since that time, the Redskins added three safeties — Dashon Goldson, Jeron Johnson and Kyshoen Jarrett.”
As for Demitrius Bronson (UDFA signing from 2014 draft class), he comes from the Seahawks after being on their practice squad last year. He was injured off and on; waived/added to PS more than once and ultimately IR’d due to a nagging hamstring injury. He was waived off IR a few weeks ago as the Seahawks have since added other UDFA RB prospects such as TAMU’s Christine Michael & Ohio State’s Rod Smith.
This is what FieldGulls (A Seattle fan website) wrote about him back in May:
“Bronson is a 5’10, 212 pound running back out of Eastern Washington University and was with the team for parts of last season. At his pro day, he ran the 40 in 4.52 seconds, registered a 4.25 second short shuttle, 6.82 second 3-cone, 24 reps bench, and a 33.5” vert. He’s a former 3-star recruit to University of Washington but saw only limited action in 2009 and didn’t play in 2010, so he transferred to Eastern Washington. He fits the profile, athletically, as a Seahawk type of running back, and as our own Jared Stanger points out, “his highlight reel is basically a ‘3rd down back’ audition tape. Catches out of the backfield, chip blocks on blitzers, short yardage…”
I wonder if the Bronson signing relates to what’s been going on with Ajayi.
Stanger,
What you explained with your Saab history is where a lease option has advantages.
That’s the ultimate security……but it comes at a price. Like to ride my cars five-six years. Three Japanese models in and not one has spent the night in the shop for mechanical issues.

What do they say when you have 3 starting QBS on your team?
You don’t have one.

Speaking of, the mighty Seahawks seem to have a similar issue to Miami ……LOL

Dolphin receivers are amaze balls, another great trio of ROUTE RUNNERS…
10:48 PM – 10 Aug 2015
He put the emphasis on route runners, which is something coach Joe Philbin has also emphasized.
Philbin said recently that the new groups of receivers are a better fit for quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
He praised the route running ability of Kenny Stills, who replaces Mike Wallace as the team’s top threat. Wallace was not exactly known for his route running.
“When we saw Kenny Stills on film, he was a pretty precise route runner,” Philbin said. “He was pretty smooth in and out of his cuts and he kind of ran routes and caught routes similar to the routes we think Ryan throws the best.”

Some annoying term Perez Hilton keeps trying to make happen, by saying it repeatedly, even though it makes no sense, and getting twitter followers to try and make it a trending topic, to make himself more famous for no reason.
The fact that someone like Perez Hilton can make six figures by being an annoying douchebag is amazeballs.
